And we'll be thinking about you here

and hoping that from our family to yours

that we wish you a very, very happy Thanksgiving.

If you're in the market for a new set of wheels,

this is the time between now and the end of the year,

the best time to get yourself a new ride

and the incentives are just outstanding right now.

And those are gonna continue through the end of the year,

but I wouldn't tell you,

it gets very hectic at car dealerships,

particularly that last week of the year

when a lot of people traditionally shop that last week

because the last week is good

and it's kind of changed over the past decade.

The incentives are coming out earlier

and staying longer.

So used to be that somewhere around the 20th of December

that up the incentives for the last week of the year.

We haven't seen that in the past few years.

So I think what you've got today

is what you're gonna have.

All the programs are in place,

the Lexus December to remember and Happy Honda Days

and Toyota Thon and the list goes on and on and on.

But the bottom line is the deals are great

and everybody in the auto industry right now

is thinking volume.

And when dealers and manufacturers are thinking volume,

that's when the bargains come out and that's where we are.

So that's what we're gonna be talking about.

For this, our last hour, for this week,

we'll be back live with you next weekend.

We'll be here and we're gonna help people get through

that Black Friday weekend,

which is as good a weekend as there ever is

in the car business as far as bargains.

It's a real volume time.

People think of Black Friday as going to the mall

but the truth is going to a dealership.

That's a great day to do something.

It will be busy, but guess what happens

when dealerships get busy?

They go straight to the bottom line a lot quicker.

And that's a good thing.

That's what anybody would want.

Mr. Todd, 84.

Without a sauce.

I tell you what, that was a recovery time.

That was a long time, I'll tell you that.

It's all I'm saying about that.

Yeah, and rightfully so.

You were just saying a second ago when dealerships,

when it's that kind of a weekend like Black Friday weekend

and say, oh, I'm not gonna go there

because it's gonna be busy.

And I won't get the attention.

No, you're gonna get the attention.

Anybody who walks in there,

they're ready to accommodate them.

And like you said, they might be a little bit more,

I can't speak for them,

but as far as making deals and letting some of those deals

go by, being lenient or taking care of people

that have credit issues,

I'll bet they probably have a plan for all that.

And I bet that's gonna really benefit you to go

even that particular day.

Well, and especially if you go through

because most of the contacts there

are the general managers of the dealerships.

Sometimes it's the owner of the dealership.

These are busy people regularly,

and they're super busy during the holidays.

So they're gonna just cut right straight to the chase.

Here's your best price you're gonna find.

Here's what we can give you for your trade in.

No games, they don't have time for games.

They just wanna move iron.

And that means taking cars off their lot

so they don't have to pay interest on them anymore

and putting them in people's driveways.

And they gotta, I don't say a quota,

but they have a certain number because like we mentioned

before, they're getting incentives

based on the cars that the manufacturer wants them to sell.

They gotta move those cars out, get them done,

and there's a shelf life.

And they have a fine amount of time they have to do so.

So they're not gonna mess around and try to do

any sort of, you know, like, oh, well,

let's go back and talk to a whatever now.

They wanna give you the best deal right now

and you're gonna be surprised and delighted

when you get somebody who treats you that well

and is not gonna go play games and monkey around.

And that's what I love about this time of year.

It's so true.

Let's talk to Shannon in Houston.

Shannon, what is going on?

Well, unfortunately, we hit a deer with our equinox

on the way home.

Oh, no.

Is everybody okay?

Yeah.

Everybody but the deer?

Oh, yeah, we were great.

Yeah, she's not good now.

Oh, no.

But they're gonna total it.

And so, and we had been talking about buying my husband

a truck anyway.

So we have found a vehicle in just north of us in Dallas.

It's a 2023 platinum Toyota Tundra.

It's got a three inch lift on it.

It has about 18,000 miles.

Great.

But it is a recall for the Toyota engine.

And we just don't know if that's a good risk to take.

We want to stay under 50,000 and that price,

they are under that price.

Is it a Toyota dealer?

No, it is at Crest Cadillac and they sent me the Carfax.

It was originally bought in Oregon and then to Dallas

where the lift kit was put in by McKinney Lifts

truck lifting in McKinney, Texas.

And then it was traded in at Crest Cadillac.

And they have not completed the recall?

No, they have not.

No, it still shows on the Carfax.

The Carfax says the recall happened November 6th.

Okay.

And it's not, yeah, that's just the new recall.

And it's not the hybrid, right?

Not the i-Force Max.

No, no, it's not the hybrid.

Okay.

Look, here's the worst.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy it because if the engine goes out,

and not all of them do, just because it got a recall

doesn't mean it's going to happen to that one.

But if it did, you're going to get a brand new engine.

And so you're starting over like it's a brand new truck.

I don't see the downside to that other than the inconvenience.

That is exactly what we thought.

Yeah, you're right.

I mean, it's the price we want to pay,

only 18,000 miles.

It's got all the things we want.

And just getting a new engine.

I didn't see that as a downside.

No, it's not.

That's a good thing.

Listen, get the price in riding before you drive to Dallas.

Trust me on this.

Get them to send you a deal sheet that's got every number on it

and make sure that the price you're seeing

is the price you're going to get.

Too often, there's surprises.

Well, you got to head to Toyota.

The recall, the latest recall on their engines

is adding to a former recall.

The same issue basically that now is over 227,000 vehicles

involved.

We're talking the 2022 to 2024 Toyota Tundra,

the 22 to 24 Lexus LX, and now the 24 Lexus GX.

And it's a debris that during the assembly

and the making of the engine got in there.

And now, because some vehicles have it,

some don't, they don't know exactly which ones.

It could be some bearing wear, knocking, power loss,

and a stall that could happen if you don't get this attended.

So Toyota, doing the right thing,

it'd probably be expensive, too.

Replacing engines instead of just trying to do a fix.

So I got to take my hat off and tip it to them there.

Yeah, and that was great news.

The dealers loved that, too.

Because they can take the old engine out

and put a new one in in a day's time.

Toyota pays them, because I looked into this,

Toyota pays them, I believe, 13 hours of labor

to do an engine swap on these recalled vehicles.

Good technician can do that in nine to 10 hours.

Oh, really?

Yeah.

It's amazing.

But Toyota still pays 13.

And that's another good indication that they're serious

about making this right.

Well, these things happen to the best car companies.

I'd argue Toyota is the best car company.

Hard to argue that.

Yeah, it is.

Shannon and Houston, we were just talking to

made me think of something that I want to just stress to everybody.

When you're looking online at a car

and you're having to go a distance,

get the numbers emailed to you completely.

Because every dealer, somewhere on their website,

has got a disclaimer.

And it's hard to find it many times.

Some are real upfront, but most barium somewhere

could be on a completely different page

than what you're seeing that vehicle

that you're looking at on.

And then when you get there, it's,

well, we've got add-ons that we do,

and you have to buy those.

Or if it's a new vehicle,

yeah, that price included a military rebate.

So if you're not active duty military,

you don't get $1,000.

So we got to add that $1,000 back.

Interesting.

And that's what I was telling Shannon.

Get someone to send you a buyer's order signed

that tells you, here's the price,

here's the tax title and license,

here's the bottom line.

And get that upfront,

especially before you do what she was fixing to do

was drive from Houston to Dallas.

This time of year with the holidays, that's a whipping.

And if they are, they dilly-dally

or they sort of like act waffly about it,

then you know you need to run from the situation.

Yeah, you're in a bad spot.

Yeah.

Native Houstonian, I'm usually driving a truck,

but I like both wagon jetties

and I had bought one several years ago

from Bill Hurt.

Oh my God, was that a disaster?

Oh, I'm sure it was.

But after I replaced yesterday

and after I replaced almost everything on it,

the transmission dropped on me

when I was going downtown

on the coldest night of the year.

But anyway, I got me a brand new one

in 2017, both wagon jetties,

and I'll tell you what,

are you sitting down?

Yeah.

Okay, I've got over 300,000 miles on it.

Wow, mercy.

And the thing drives like a gym.

Is that a diesel?

It's not a diesel.

It is stripped down.

All I've got in it is an air conditioner,

a heater, and the radio.

Wow.

And a TV player.

How about that?

Yeah.

You're good on your maintenance then.

Yes, sir, I am.

I've always used the same gas.

Yep.

And I've always used premium gas.

And I had a gentleman I worked with

who was a mechanic in your army

and he told me that it's important

to make sure you've got those detergents

in the gas for cleaning.

Yeah.

But anyway.

Are you going to keep it for a while?

I'm keeping it.

I just listened to your last call

about getting a new engine.

And I was thinking maybe that's what I should do

when it starts acting up on me.

But knock on wood.

It's doing great.

Good.

I'm glad to hear it, Louise.

And you know, if you love the car

and with the price of new cars today,

if you can get an engine put in for four grand

or maybe $4,500, probably a good way to go.

Yeah, I just had a question about,

I've leased a Honda from,

for the last since 2014,

every three years,

and started with a pilot,

went to a ridgeline.

Yeah.

And the last couple of times

I've got the passport.

And so my lease is up now,

or next March.

And I went in to the local dealer here,

that this will be the fourth one

I've purchased from them.

And when I go in and want to order it,

you can't order the Honda.

They have to find it in another dealer.

And I was curious if you knew why that is

and if they're going to change that.

Same with Toyota.

You can order, look,

I think the bottom line is

you can order,

but the Honda dealers and the same with Toyota,

they don't like to do it

because it takes way too long

and the communication from the factory is horrible.

Neither one of these car companies,

as smart as they are,

are set up for special order vehicles.

They want to build what they want to build.

And it's up to the dealer

to get a customer to like it.

And that's the truth.

So what a lot of dealers will do

is they'll take somebody like you.

They'll find a vehicle that's coming

into their inventory that's already on order

and change that order.

And that doesn't delay it

like trying to place a brand new order.

So it can be done.

You're looking at the new 26 passport

which is a hot piece of merchandise.

The dealers can't get enough of them

and they're much in demand.

The demand is much greater than the supply

and that makes it even harder.

So I would, you know,

I would look at what they have coming in already

and see how they can adapt that

to fit what you're looking for.

I'd give up on trying to special order

exactly what you want.

You'll never get it from Honda, ever.

So, you know, I'm sure your dealer

being a four-time customer

will do all they can to help.

And that's a great choice, by the way.

We're looking at the Santa Fe

calligraphy, I believe.

And I want to get your opinion

on how you feel it stacks up

price-wise, safety-wise

and warranty-wise.

Do you feel real comfortable with that car?

I do.

I've reviewed the Santa Fe a couple of times.

The calligraphy is

very, very nice.

The only thing I question, Jim,

is

when you're looking at a Santa Fe

you're only

a few thousand

dollars away

from the Palisade.

Okay.

You're getting more room inside

with the Palisade.

Okay.

The fuel economy is roughly the same.

Maybe a mile per gallon less.

The resale

on the Palisade is definitely

better than the Santa Fe.

Okay.

My theory is you'll spend a little more up front

but you'll get it all back at the end.

Okay.

For the warranty,

there's no better warranty

than what Hyundai and Kia offers.

Now,

I've said this many times on the show.

That warranty

is

nothing more than a marketing

tool for them.

Yeah.

It's 10 years or 100,000 miles

and you're not going to use it

because they're built into a good car.

But it's there.

Just in case

you could run into a situation

like with Toyota,

with the Tundra engines that we've been talking about,

it happens sometimes

and if it were to happen

it would be 10,000 miles

worth of coverage.

But I wouldn't let that be

a big decision

maker for you.

Let the vehicles themselves

stand on their own

and when you stack them up

against any competition other than Kia

because they're very closely matched

but they're better buys

than anything on the market right now.

Well, that sounds good.

Well, I've got a couple

of really good ones

I was

I had some dealers in Portland

for a while

I had horrible experiences

with them

I had listeners

telling me horror stories

I don't know what it is about that market

I had a great

Ford dealership, Gresham Ford

never forget them

they were everything I wanted a dealer to be

but they were the

only one

and I dropped the rest of them

and I wish I could help you

I do

I just don't have anybody

then how about Oregon

and Washington

Sacramento is the closest dealers

I've got to you there

and that ain't close

No it sure as heck

isn't

I could help you

I loved Portland

I loved the people

the listeners I had in Portland

and I can tell you beyond

any question of doubt that Gresham is great

they are

but that was the only happy

story I had as far as dealers

and look it's not just Portland

I had the same problem

in Phoenix, Arizona

I was on the air in Phoenix for a long time

and it was a revolving

door for dealers

because

they wanted to be on the show

and they'd tell me everything I wanted to hear

but when a listener came in there

it was chaos

there was nothing organized

the listeners didn't feel special

they didn't offer them any special prices

and I ended up booting

every freaking one of them

be back in Phoenix, Arizona

and they say it could be kind of useful

if you're trying to figure out what a fair use

and you can duplicate winter stickers

on used cars which is a good idea

which you may not ever

you may not be driving that much anymore

to where that would be an issue

but it's a good

reliable safe car

that will not break

the bank when you need

something repaired if you do at all

you may not

they're that good

but it'll give you a similar ride and drive

yet it's got all the newer

technology and safety

features

as far as backup cameras

and

backup sensors

and that sort of thing

that are a real help

as we age

and we don't move as fast as we used to

and our depth perception

gets off

we can't tell distance as well

when we get older

so this Lexus

solves all that for you

the car will do it all for you

and you're going to have a good reliable car

new refinance loan

on a used car and I was wondering

if she could recommend a loan broker

or finance institution she should contact

does she not have a bank or credit union

she does any business with

she banks with Wells Fargo

but Wells Fargo said they only

work with dealers direct

they wouldn't refinance a used car

I don't believe that

I really don't

I mean if

wow what kind of car is

is she trying to refinance

she has a 2023

ERV

the interest rate is not that bad

I want to say it's like 8.5%

but I think she was hoping

she saw something on the internet about

someone called EasyJet Finance

who said that they would refinance

so she thought she could lower her

monthly payment but

I didn't know how reputable those

internet ads are

the only one that I know of that she might try

there's one called

roadloans.com

they've been around

for a long time

I've recommended them with some success

in the past

I'm assuming she has a good credit

and no problems there

I'm just still in shock

that Wells Fargo wouldn't do

a direct loan for her

they're a full service bank

what a loss there

yeah I think I'd ask somebody else

at Wells Fargo

I find that

very unlikely

I think she talked to somebody that didn't know what they were talking about

but

have her try roadloans and have her try

Wells Fargo again
