Mr. Announcer, take some liberties with some of the facts, is that fair to say?

Oh, he's just getting started with you.

I'm telling you.

When the opportunity came up just over a year ago to come and co-host the show,

I was for a warrant saying now Mr. Announcer is going to have a little bit of fun,

so if you've got a thin skin, you better get over it.

And you were correct about that.

Yep.

It's very, very funny, the hog calling.

That's a new one.

And the suspicious looking reality.

Tomato sandwich certainly applies there too.

It's a big, but going back to cars, yes.

I mean, we have talked about this for, you know, for a bit of time now,

the fact that the inventory is well starting to kind of creep up on a lot of these dealers out there.

And like you said, they don't really need to have all the 25s out there.

They certainly need to decrease that buyer's market and a situation where you got dealers

who are motivated to get some vehicles moved.

If you were even thinking about maybe getting a new car,

this would probably be the best time to do it.

It is.

And when dealers get overstocked, it's way cheaper for them to sell a car at no profit

than it is to pay the interest on that car sitting there.

Yeah.

So that's why it's so good for consumers when dealers are overstocked.

And some of them already are.

The others, most of them, have got a lot of cars inbound

that are going to cause them to be overstocked very quickly.

So take advantage of that.

I will always tell you the best times to buy.

I'll tell you when it's not a good time to buy, but I can tell you right now.

It is a good time to make that move.

You had a caller in on the minivans and I just want to throw out there.

I've got a Chrysler Talent Country 2005 that's got 192,000 miles original transmission engine.

Just throw that out there.

Well, I think they're starting, you know, they dropped.

Chrysler got out of the minivan business and I think they're back in it.

I think they're coming back with the caravan, if I remember correctly.

I don't get a lot of van questions, so I don't watch them as close as I do trucks and SUVs.

But thank you for adding that in.

And of course, it always comes down to how well you maintain it.

But that goes without saying.

Yes.

The reason I'm calling is I'm interested in, and like the body style of the Lincoln Nautilus.

Yeah.

I'm not typically wanting to buy a new car for a variety of reasons.

So in the used Nautilus market, I heard that the 2020s had some issues.

And now that we're in 25, I was going to want to see if you could suggest what year would

be the best year and for what reason and what might be a better comparable option to that vehicle.

Okay.

When people tell me they hear about a vehicle problem, that typically means that they've

been online.

Is that the case?

That's right.

Yeah, reviews.

Yeah.

I don't remember any problems with in 2020.

I'll be honest with you.

The Nautilus has been a and so is the aviator.

If you needed something bigger, but the Nautilus has been a very good vehicle mechanically.

There may have been a few issues with the and I'm really stretching my memory here.

But around that 2020 mark seems to me like there were issues with the computers inside

the vehicle that run the infotainment system, that sort of thing.

They had problems with something.

Yeah.

And you know, I probably for that reason would stay away from that one.

But I would be more focused on mileage and history reports than I would year models.

And I think that's good advice for you.

Nothing stands out in my mind with Nautilus as being a bad, bad year.

So is there a good price range for 21 and up that would relative 35,000 or less miles

ideally?

Yeah.

I mean, prices are hard for me because used, used ones are all over the board.

The Nautilus hasn't been a great seller, which means that the resale value hasn't been great

either.

Now, that's great news if you're looking for a used one.

I would say you could get a 35,000 mile one somewhere in the $30,000 range.

And if that's the case, then I would certainly look at it.

You asked me about others before we run out of time.

The XT5 has been a very good quality SUV.

And if you're going midsize, you'll never beat the Lexus RX.

So give that some thought.

In this week's newsletter, it's another round of quick chefs.

These are stories from the world of cars, sometimes with a humor spent to it.

And other stories sort of hyper focused on the story about Ferrari, where this is something

interesting, and they have, I guess, done this forever, where they are very picky about

who gets to drive their car so much so that if they think you're up to some craziness

or hijinks or things they don't like, they'll put you on a permanent blacklist and doesn't

matter whether you're famous, rich, or well connected, whatever, you cannot go buy a brand

new Ferrari.

No, that's true.

So the example that you gave here is Lindsay Lohan, the famous actress who has had her time

in the spotlight with DUIs, all kinds of other chaos going on.

Well, apparently they have a blacklisted Lindsay Lohan.

She can't buy a Ferrari.

Nope, she cannot.

And that is crazy to me.

So what other things do you think would make people get on a blacklist?

I mean, can't they all be DUIs, right?

No, I, you know, and I don't know what their criteria is.

Yeah.

They are picky.

I mean, you can't buy a new Ferrari unless you've owned a used one.

So you first have to buy a used Ferrari.

Yes.

Before you buy a brand new one.

So some dealers, some Ferrari dealers will sell, if a customer wants a new one, they'll

sell them something on the used car lot and tell them I'll see you in a year.

They can't, they can't build enough cars for the people, for all the rich people that

could afford them.

Yeah, got it.

Yeah.

And so they can be picky.

And Lindsay Lohan is famous.

I don't think she's famous for her great actress abilities.

I think she's famous for all the wrong reasons.

The partying and all that stuff she did back in the day.

Yes.

And so they're like, we don't need you, Lindsay Lohan.

That's crazy.

We're not impressed with you.

And truth be known, she's very well off.

I'm sure she could buy whatever car she wants.

Not a Ferrari.

Except for that one.

That's crazy.

But how cool is that story?

Just weird that they've got that kind of deal going on.

But that's, that's old world kind of sensibility, isn't it?

Yes, it is.

I appreciate it.

I just wonder people with that kind of money.

They're not used to being told no to anything.

That's true.

It's got to be a culture shock.

I'd love to be a fly on the wall.

I would too.

I mean, personally, have you ever known anybody?

I never have.

And you're not on there, right?

Yes.

I had a question about the Cadillac X-T5.

I emailed y'all because I was thinking about getting one in the spring.

I have driven them for about 10 years.

Got them at Sewell for y'all's recommendation from Curtis St. Louis.

Yeah.

And really loved the cars.

But I see they're going to all EV.

This continued the four and the five will be continued in 2016.

So I was just wondering, do you think they'll pivot away from all EV or are they pretty much dug in on that?

Yeah, I don't think they will.

I don't think they'll change their minds on it.

I think a lot of the car companies and a lot of the other GM brands are backing away from electrics.

But Cadillac is not, at least yet.

And no signs that they're going to.

In fact, they're probably feeling stronger about it because in September last month, they had the biggest September they've ever had.

And it was primarily due to electrics.

Now, it was also due to the fact that the $7,500 tax credit was going away.

So a lot of people rushed in and bought electrics that they probably pulled all their electric buyers for the rest of this year into September.

So.

Oh, OK.

I just I they seem committed with Cadillac.

And I just shocked at that.

I know.

I don't understand car companies.

I don't understand car companies don't give you a choice.

That's one of the things I've loved about what Chevrolet has done is you can get a equinox.

All electric or you can get an equinox with gas.

Same with the Blazer.

You can get a Blazer EV.

You can get a Blazer with gas.

And and that that absolutely makes the most sense.

I really don't understand what they're thinking with Cadillac, especially because of the loyal owners that they've had in the past are not going to make that move to electric ever.

So they're going to have to find something else.

Luckily, there's a lot of good choices out there, Bill.

It's like the dead speaking to the college kid going off for their first year of college.

You know, make sure you do this, that and check your tires and, you know, give them all the checklist of things to do.

It's sort of similar, except this time of year with the temperatures changing, the barometric pressure obviously kind of going back and forth.

It is a good time to go and examine how the tires are doing on the vehicle.

And there's some pretty good tips actually in a news article, a safety article rather, that's in the newsletter.

I guess my question to you Jerry is, do you take tire safety seriously?

Oh, I definitely do.

Okay, so do you check them pretty often?

Well, I mean, I know that the car does that for you.

Yes, I rely on the car to do it.

I don't do it by gauge anymore, although I still have one.

In fact, I have several gauges, but I rely on the car to tell me when one gets low.

I don't let it stay low, even if it's only a pound or two.

I got, look, I got a huge education on tires.

Okay.

Back when Ford Explorers were killing people.

Oh my gosh, yeah.

From rolling over.

You may be too young to remember that.

If so, look it up.

But in the late, in the early 2000s, Ford, what Ford Explorers were rolling over at an

alarming rate, well over a hundred people were killed.

I remember them.

I was the chairman of the Ford National Dealer Council.

We were panicked as dealers in the Ford Motor Company was panicked because I mean, people

are dying.

Yeah.

On the highway.

And so we dove in and started looking and finally figured out it wasn't the vehicle,

it was the Firestone tires that were on it.

Now, was it the level of the tires or was it the tire itself?

It was the construction of the tires.

Construction, got it.

When we really started looking at the accident data, none of the Explorers that had unoroyal

tires from the factory rolled over.

Oh, really?

Everyone that did roll over was a Firestone tire.

Wow.

So we learned that the sidewalls which are glued on to the treads are glued on to the

sidewalls of these tires.

I didn't know that.

I didn't either.

I didn't know it was glue that held these, you know, held tires together, but it is.

And I mean, I just got an amazing education.

Now Firestone denied it was them.

I testified in Washington before Congress on this.

Now that I didn't know.

That was an experience all by itself.

All bad.

But I became a tire expert.

We had to, of course.

Yeah.

Whether I wanted to or not.

Right.

And so, yes, I do take it seriously and I try to impart that wisdom on listeners through

the newsletter and have for years that you'll see all kinds of articles on tires and tire

safety and the dangers of a tire that's under inflated.

Because I learned that a tire that is 10% low at 65 miles an hour is running at over

300 degrees.

What happens to glue when it gets hot?

It loses its ability to stick.

And your Ford Explorer rolls over.

That's amazing information.

See, I mean, do you saying what, 10% of the actual amount?

Yeah.

So it's three pounds and three pounds under.

That's crazy.

Yeah.

So that.

So I mean, literally life and death.

Oh, absolutely.

Wow.

Makes me want to go out and check my tire gauges and my pressures right now, actually.

And there's one other thing I will tell you.

You cannot look at a tire and tell if it's low.

Yeah.

That's true.

I won money off Kevin on that.

He said, oh, yeah, I could, I could look at a tire and tell it's low.

Really.

So we found one.

I said, is that tire low?

Nope.

Five pounds low.

Oh, yes.

I bought a BMW in the last couple of weeks and trying to figure out how things work.

And I found out that I, I don't know if you can read it or not.

I found out that you can't get rid of the assist.

It says that way.

And when you turn the car on, it automatically looks on the climate.

So there's a couple of things that I don't like at all.

I drove up.

Anyway, I drove into the car before.

So have you, have you checked it?

Any of the BMWs?

It's the 2025.

Oh, I have a 25 BMW personally.

Really?

Is that, I mean, do you like it?

Yeah.

Obviously you're driving it.

Yeah.

Well, I don't, I don't drive it much.

I've put 800 miles on it since February, but I do love it when I drive it.

So what's your biggest issue with the one you have?

Well, some things that you can't get rid of, you can't get rid of assist.

But I took it back to the dealers and I couldn't figure it out.

Online, you got to bring everything or take it to your phone.

And it's hard to read all that.

Oh, no, you can't get an assist.

Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.

Which, are you talking about lane keep assist?

You mean, well, that, no, I'm talking also about when you slow down a little bit.

You're going to turn, it stops to save gas, but it stutters when it comes back on.

And I want to get rid of that.

And my other question is, you could.

What, what series, what series BMW do you have?

Sport, one, two, 81.

Okay.

And you said you can't get rid of that.

I used to be able to go get rid of that, my other part.

I don't believe, I don't believe that.

I don't believe you can't.

Okay.

I don't believe there is a, that there is not a button to disable it.

Now, with that said, if you find that button, you are going to have to turn it off every

time you start the car to keep it off.

But once you get used to doing that, it's not bad at all.

There should be a button somewhere on the dash that's got an A that it'll be an A with

a circle around it.

And now we love that.

I mean, I did take you to the dealership and we did look.

It was one of the sales guys.

But I mean, I'll search it again.

I actually had to order it on his manual because you can share, you can go online.

Anyway, I'll chat with you.

He actually said that.

I'm going to bet money there is.

I'm going to bet you money there is.

Okay.

Well, good.

Good.

I'll, I'll, I believe you.

But it does better when it does that, it kind of stops and it takes several seconds to

come back up.

Oh yeah.

I hate the system.

I hate him.

I start the car.

I start the car and then I turn that off.

That's automatic every time you get in the habit.

It's not a big deal.

Okay.

All right.

I'm going to go back to check and I'm getting the owner's manager just older than.

So I'm going to get that.

Listen, Janie, we're going to run out of time here, but it's called the start stop system.

When you get that owner's manual, look for start stop system.

And I'm going to bet you money that you've got a button for that.

The other thing is there's software that you can buy that will disable it too.

Every case is different when it comes to buying or leasing a new vehicle.

Well, every single year, state farm releases, I guess the top states for animal collisions

that they do research on.

And in the list, I was kind of chuckling because the number one, I'll tell you that on the list,

is West Virginia.

And the only time my vehicles ever been hit by a deer was in the state of West Virginia.

Maybe I imported the stats.

Now, this was years ago, but I thought it was kind of funny because I had heard stories

when I moved there, they said, watch out when it gets to be dusk.

You'll have all kinds of trouble.

There'll be deer flying out of nowhere.

And sure enough, I'm literally on the on-ramp going on the interstate.

And it was like 6 p.m.

And here comes a deer and he plows into the side of my little bitty compact car.

And I looked in the rear view and the deer was just sort of days for a second.

Then he ran off and he was fine.

And I was left with a big giant dent.

Well, glad he hit you instead of you hitting him.

Right.

Had it been another way that could have been pretty devastating.

I got to end the Firestone Ford tire story.

I was just saying, hey, okay, we got the goods.

We know this is a Firestone problem.

And Ford was saying, we're going to do a recall and get all those tires off the road

and put new tires on.

I said, Firestone needs to do this.

It's their problem.

Sure.

That makes sense.

Nope.

We're going to do it ourselves.

And the CEO at that time said, it's going to cost us $3 billion to do this.

I said, did it get Firestone to do it?

No, we can't.

Really?

I didn't know why.

I learned later.

Yeah.

Bill Ford's, the CEO's grandmother was a Firestone.

I'll be darned.

That's why.

There you go.

Nobody ever admitted that.

Yeah.

Well, then just do the math and boom.

It makes sense to me.

Thanks for taking my call.

You bet.

Just a quick question, because I'm about to run into work, but I have a 2020 Porsche

Cayenne Escoupe and I love it.

But it's got 67,000 miles and I'm just wondering, should I trade it in and get something out

about it used?

And there's nothing wrong with it.

I love it.

But I'm going to retire in a couple of years.

So I want to have something that will last.

I was looking at maybe Alexis, but I just haven't found anything that I like as much as

they're hard.

Cayenne's hard to replace.

I know.

I had a two problems.

I know.

I had a 2021 that I kept longer than any car I've kept in 30 years.

Just got rid of it this year, as a matter of fact.

Wow.

And I got a Mercedes GLE and I got it, meant I sort of regret it.

The Mercedes is nice, but that Cayenne was really something special.

And I love the layout of it.

I love the fact that I never had any kind of problems with it.

Any kind.

Yeah, me either.

Me either.

It's a great car.

I just I'm afraid because I've never owned a Porsche before, so I don't know what's coming

down the road.

Well, they're expensive when you go to fix them and you're at the mileage where I think

I would probably tell you, Ben, you're going to retire in a couple of years to look at another

Porsche certified one and maybe move yourself up a few year models and something under 30,000

miles.

And then if you get a certified one, you're going to have warranty for a very long time

way past the time that you're retired.

So that's the only thing I've seen.

Do you like a Macan?

I just have a grandson that goes in the back.

I'm not hauling anything.

Oh, the Macan is great too.

I mean, it's just not as big.

It doesn't have as much backseat room.

But when you're sitting behind the driver's seat, you can hardly tell the difference between

them.

I mean, it's laid out exactly the same.

Porsche Grapevine is my dealer.

They're right over by the airport.

And if you'll go over there and talk to them, they're at my website.

Get them to find you a certified one.

I think you'll be real happy.

I do think it's time.

What could I do for you?

Yes.

I have a RAV4 at the 2021.

It's about 27,000 miles on it.

And I like the car, but I went on a long trip about 10 hours and it rides so noisy and

rough.

And I'm looking for something as we retire that we can travel around the US and be more

quiet and smooth.

Well, look at the Lexus NX.

It's essentially the same size, but you get a nicer interior.

You get more insulation inside.

So it is a quieter ride.

And then there is a ride selector.

And if you want comfort, you can choose comfort and you'll soften up the ride.

If you want a sportier ride, you can choose that and have probably about what you have

now, but you have choices.

And quality wise, it is exceptional.

I think that is your absolute best choice.

The other one, if you decide that you want to shop around a little bit, look at the

Lincoln Corsair.

Now, if you want a quiet ride, the Lincoln Corsair is outstanding.

And it's going to be about the same size too.

And I would say the Corsair and the NX are probably about the same price.

You're not going to get a quieter ride than what you have unless you step up just a hair

to these sort of luxury versions of these things.
