Isn't it like relationships is built on that when you're looking for a new person,

like a dentist or a person to come in like a plumber.

What do you typically do?

Do you just go and find the closest person?

Or do you say, hey, I'm going to talk to somebody and find out who they use and say

they're happy with them.

And if you if you get a referral or somebody who can vouch for them,

don't you typically go to that kind of person anyway?

Well, I think we all want a inside track when we're making a major purchase.

When I owned car dealerships, I owned a bunch of them for a lot of years.

And I'd have people come in and say, oh, so and so told me to come see you.

And I would make sure as the owner of the dealership or prior to that as the general manager

of several large dealerships, I would always make sure that I sat down with those folks

and and found out a little bit about them.

Thank them for coming in.

Thank them for doing business with me because I honestly appreciated it.

Of course.

And then put them with whoever my best salesperson was.

And I'd make the introduction and I'd say, hey, let me introduce you to Anthony.

And Anthony, these people are friends of mine.

I want you to show them cars.

I'll do the pricing.

Just find the car that they want.

And they'd go out, they'd look, they'd drive.

It might be two hours later.

It might be 10 minutes later.

But here would Anthony would come back and he'd say, OK, here they are.

They're on stock number so and so.

And I'd look it up and I'd price it and boom bang bang.

It's over.

That quick.

They don't want to lose that.

They won't risk losing that because they know I'll kick them off because it's happened.

Yeah, that's the accountability right there.

And that's why your method is the best because I've bought quite a few vehicles myself with it and our family has and it's always worked for us.

Hello there.

Hey, I was calling.

I was piggybacking on the GS 350 lady that called a few minutes ago.

Yeah.

I have a 2020 GS 350, the black line.

It is a rear wheel drive car.

Right.

And I'm on the list number one to buy the LS 500 heritage.

Oh, no kidding.

I made your guidance because I'm torn because I love the GS.

That's my second one to have.

Not a primary car.

I have a herd of cars.

I feel like I've listened to you too long now that I'm up to six.

That's okay.

I traded the GS and take the heritage.

I mean, beautiful.

Have you driven the LS?

I've driven.

I owned an 18 and I'm going to 17.

So I'm going to go drive a 24, which I think is going to be pretty close.

Yeah.

And you'll love it.

The only reason I even asked that was because it's big.

It's large.

And my baby is the LX.

So, and I have two of those.

Okay.

Then go for it.

And I think that heritage addition down the road could be a fairly valuable vehicle.

Okay.

I needed you to coach me.

This was your area of expertise.

It's a wonderful vehicle.

I, when I put that story in the newsletter last week, I almost had tears in my eyes and

I'm not kidding.

I think it's the greatest big car still that you can buy and it's going away.

That's a shame.

I mean, that leaves the Genesis G90 and I imagine it's going away too at some point.

Welcome back to the car pro show with Jerry Reynolds, the car pro.

One of the most clicked items this week's newsletter has to do with premium fuel.

And the question when the advice story was, are you wasting money on premium fuel?

Certainly understand the benefits of it, the higher octane level, reducing the pinging

and the knocking and all that kind of thing.

But is it really necessary if you don't have a high performance car?

And from what I read here, basically it's kind of a wait and see kind of a thing.

You basically say, if you don't have a high performance car, it isn't necessary.

But sometimes when you have a higher performance car, you might want to consider using it.

Yes, that's in your case, for example.

Yeah, my Mercedes, 603 horses.

It'll run on regular fuel, even though they recommend premium.

And it won't damage it or anything.

It won't hurt it.

No, but it doesn't run as well.

It's got a little hesitation when you really get down on it.

Oh, I hate that.

Well, yeah, I mean, when you get a 603 horse vehicle, you want that power when you want

that power.

I don't want to wait a second.

That's why you bought it.

Yes.

So, but for most people, some people have the mistaken idea that if regular fuel runs

fine in my car, boy, premium would really make it run great.

And that is that's absolutely not true.

Yeah, that's true.

Yeah.

There are a lot of cars and you just have to understand the reason that factories recommend

premium unleaded for certain vehicles.

It's because they get slightly better fuel economy.

And when car companies are getting their car certified to put that number on the window

sticker of the car that says it gets X amount of miles per gallon in town, X amount of miles

on the highway, X amount of miles combined.

They want that number as attractive as they can.

So, they test with premium.

Then they have to tell you that they recommend premium because that's how they test it.

It doesn't mean the car won't run great.

The car will adjust itself to the octane.

And that's why some people say, well, the thing said X number of miles in the city.

I'm not getting that, but they're getting regular fuel.

So, that's the reason why, obviously.

Remember back when it was a law that car companies had to say your actual mileage may vary?

Right.

I do remember that.

Your actual mileage may vary.

How you doing?

I'm good, pal.

What can I do for you?

Long time Duramax fan.

Yeah.

I've run three of them past 300,000 miles with no catastrophic failures.

But I'm not hearing a similar, I guess, durability coming out of these new V or 10 speed transmissions.

You know, that's a great topic and I hear it too.

And Tim, it's like any transmission.

There could be problems with it, but the majority of people when I really drill down with them on the 10 speeds,

whether it be a Ford or a Chevy or Mercedes or whoever,

even in some cases of the eight and nine speed transmissions.

And I test all these cars.

When I drill down with them, what I find out is they're just not used to a 10 speed transmission.

They're not used to it shifting as often as it does, which is exactly what it's supposed to do.

And they think something's wrong.

And the more time goes on, the more convinced they are that something's wrong.

When in reality, transmission is doing exactly what it's supposed to do.

It's looking for the exact right gear for the conditions that you're driving in and how you're driving.

So I discount all that when I you can't believe one percent of what you read online anyway.

But when I do read those things, I discount it and I don't believe it.

I just think that the people don't understand what the transmission is doing and that it's working the way it's supposed to.

And they don't believe a dealer.

When they go back to their dealer and say, hey, my transmission screwed up and they go for a ride with you

and they come back and they tell you, oh, you know what?

It's doing what it's supposed to.

It's behaving the way it should.

And people don't believe that.

In reality, if there is a problem, the dealer wants to fix it.

Guess what?

He makes a lot of money doing that.

So if there's a problem, he's going to tell you there's a problem.

If there's not a problem, then he's obligated to tell you there's not a problem.

I wouldn't worry about it at all, Tim.

I really wouldn't.

Gary, yeah.

So I've got a 98 grand Cherokee Jeep that I bought brand new.

I'm almost 70 years old.

I think they're going to have to pry it out of my cold, dead hand.

It's got 300,000 miles on it with that straight six.

But it's just getting kind of tired.

I'm looking at Toyotas because my wife has a RAV4.

We're pretty impressed with it.

And I want something I can see out of.

I don't know if such a truck exists any longer.

And I don't like frills, gadgets.

I don't want any of that.

I was looking at a RAV4, SR5, but you know, they've got the four cylinder turbo now.

Yep.

And some people are saying, yeah, you might want to look at the old V6, the used one.

What do you think?

Well, I think from a longevity standpoint, the four cylinder is going to be just as good.

And if we weren't talking Toyota, I might have a different opinion.

But knowing that car company and how they test and their reputation for longevity,

I would have no concerns about it.

If I were going to have concerns about the four cylinder, it would be, does it have enough power?

Especially when you get into the mountains.

And the answer to that is, because I've driven it, I've reviewed it.

The answer is yes.

It has plenty of power.

That is one thing Toyota uses their hybrid system for, is to get not just better fuel economy,

but also more horsepower.

It feels like a six cylinder.

It feels better than the V6 did in the forerunner.

I'd have no concerns about it whatsoever.

And I'm telling you, if we were talking about Chevrolet or even Honda, I might have concerns.

I don't with Toyota.

Can you see out of them?

Yes.

It sets up extremely well.

In fact, if there is a complaint on it, its step in is a little bit higher than a lot of SUVs.

But the visibility factor there is huge.

And in fact, I noted that when I reviewed it.

I think it's a perfect choice for you.

I know what you're saying about that Pentastar six cylinder and that Jeep great engine.

But I'm telling you, go with the forerunner.

It takes years to learn all about buying your trading cars.

I've got a Mercedes Benz.

A Mercedes Benz?

Yes, and it does not use gasoline.

Ah, an electric vehicle.

Yes, it is.

It's a EQE 320.

Thankfully, Mercedes has kind of simplified their electric lineup.

It's the alphabet soup that we had for a while.

They're kind of making it a little bit easier.

Now, this is the electric counterpart to the GLE.

Ah, okay.

GLE is a five-passenger.

This EQE is a five-passenger.

And it's got roughly the same amount of room inside, same amenities.

This, if you've looked at electric vehicles, a lot of them have got real unusual interiors.

The real stark, most of them are white.

This is not that way.

It's got exactly what you would expect in a Mercedes Benz.

Beautiful, luxurious interior, all the amenities, big, big screens that's right in the middle of the dash.

Kind of vertically mounted.

Very easy to operate.

82 grand on the winter sticker, 320 miles of range, and this thing is super fast.

Oh, is it really?

Oh, it'll get up and go.

Oh, that's nice.

Holy cow.

Upscale materials in there and everything.

Oh, it's really nice.

That's nice.

Really, really nice.

I've got to say, I thoroughly enjoyed it this week.

My wife and I have been looking for about the last year at the Hyundai Palisade calligraphy

hybrid.

Have you heard any of these things on that?

I have reviewed the new calligraphy Palisade.

Now, the hybrid version is not out yet.

So I haven't had it, but I had the regular engine in the calligraphy.

It's at my website.

It'll pull right up.

And I loved it.

I've been a Palisade and Telluride from Kia fan since 2021 when they came out.

And there's a lot of reasons.

The features, the warranty, the price.

The price of the Palisade I've said many times is easily $5,000 under its nearest competitor.

I wasn't sure when the new one came out if that was still going to be true.

And guess what?

It is true.

It's still $5,000 cheaper than anything on the market that's comparable to it.

I think the hybrid is going to be a huge hit.

If I were going to get a Palisade, I'd probably wait on the hybrid.

Do we know how good that hybrid is going to be as far as longevity?

No, it's too new, but you got a 10-year, 100,000 mile warranty.

So in my mind, there's nothing to worry about.

If there is a little snafu with it, which happens sometimes, you're under warranty for a long, long time.

So for those reasons, I would tell you, I think it's a great choice.

The thing in my mind is, when I say limited warranty, is that a good word, limited?

Does that mean that the warranty is shabby?

No.

I mean, it's a powertrain warranty, past five years or 60,000 miles.

It's a powertrain warranty.

And that's exactly what you want, because that's the stuff that's going to cost you a whole bunch of money if something goes wrong.

But let me tell you, and I've said it before, Ulysses, this warranty is a marketing tool.

They're making some of the greatest cars on the road.

The odds of you ever using that warranty are slim and none.

But it put Hyundai and Kia on the map back at a time when their quality wasn't so great.

And I'm talking about 15 years ago.

So to build confidence in their product when they started really making a great vehicle, they put the 10-year, 100,000 mile warranty on it.

There was no risk to them because they're making such great vehicles.

So all in all, I think when Tide wanted an SUV, his last one, I said get the Telluride or the Palisade.

He chose the Telluride because he liked the looks better.

That's fine.

I liked the Palisade.

I find it to be a little more luxurious.

And more than anything, it's got a power third row seat that folds flat into the floor.

With the Kia, you've got to manually lower it and raise it.

More of a sporty look too, actually.

Yeah, for the Telluride.

But guess what?

You can't go wrong with either one.

They're the same other than the interiors and the exteriors.

They're the same drivetrain.

So then it comes down to whichever one you want.

The surprise for me was because I reviewed both of them the first year that they came out.

The surprise for me was the Kia was actually a little bit more money than the Palisade.

I don't know why.

So there you have it.

I've got two great dealers for Hyundai in SoCal.

I've got Tim Moran Hyundai in Hemet and I've got Tustin Hyundai there in Tustin, California.

They've been with me a very long time.

Oh yeah.

If you go and do a search on the internet for Nissan CVT, you can read all kinds of stories.

People talking about their opinions and there are some passionate opinions

to mostly against the CVT transmission.

And there was a time when there was good reason for that.

Yeah, I mean back in the day they had power issues, the shaking, hesitation,

all that kind of thing.

Somebody said that they need fluid changes every 30,000 miles.

Is that true?

I don't know about that.

That's all for Reddit.

I don't think it's going to help one if you've got a 2013 to a 2060.

Yeah, that was the meantime.

That was the horrible time for the CVTs and Nissan's.

They're great now.

Well, there's a group of guys that are Nissan, they work for Nissan dealers.

They're dealers themselves.

I didn't get that part of it.

I think they're dealers.

I think they're used car dealers.

Used car dealers and they wanted to go and do a road trip

with three used Nissan CVT vehicles to prove how durable they can be.

And so there is a, there's a YouTube video series called tour detour,

the good, bad and the CVT, which you talk about actually in the newsletter this week.

Yes.

And they actually set out to go and take a long trip to see exactly like 1500

miles of salt flats and sand dunes, just putting these things through the test

to see how these cars can survive.

And apparently it's not just a stunt.

They really wanted to show how the, the miss, the misconception, I guess, basically

of what the CVT used to be versus now.

And it's actually pretty entertaining.

They're funny.

Yeah.

That's what I hear.

I've not seen them.

I don't know why they're doing this, but if they're doing it, I want to see it.

Sure.

Absolutely.

It's like a train wreck.

I am all over the, I'm going to be replacing my 2017 RDX all over the map.

I'm going larger.

Yeah.

I'm looking at possible Palisade, Toyota Highlander, Grand Highlander, but my

daughter just bought a new Chevy Traverse of all things.

Yeah.

And I loved it when I rode with her, but I'm concerned about longevity.

What is your opinion?

I think it's great.

The Traverse historically has been a wonderful, wonderful SUV.

You know, will it go as far as the Highlander?

No, probably not.

But if you're, you know, if you weren't, if you're trying to get somewhere close to

200,000 miles out of an SUV, which is longer than most people ever want to keep one, then

it's going to be great.

And I tell you for the money and the room inside that you get with the Traverse, I put

it in the Ford Explorer up at the very top of my list for people who, you know, aren't

looking to go past 200,000 miles.

If they are, then I'm going to suggest the Toyota, maybe even a Honda Pilot, but for,

you know, 175 to 200,000 miles to Traverse, if you do the maintenance, it's going to be

great.

I don't have any concerns.

last, I don't know, three or four years, especially the changes that they just made.

I've known those people for 20 years.
