If you would like to pick my brain as we enter into the month of October, third quarter is over. Lots of things have changed. Certainly appears that the incentives have stayed aggressive.

And, and you typically see that a little bit of a dip at the first of October, I was talking to my Toyota dealer in Dallas, Fort Worth, on the earlier CarPro show. And their incentives didn't change at all. They continued right on with what they had in September, which was a little bit of a surprise.

I've seen the Ford incentives. They remained good. The GM incentives are still good. But it's early in the month and I'm still learning where everybody is. But it looks like everybody's gearing up for a big fourth quarter.

So the timing is good. If you missed a last week's deadline for the EVs, electric vehicles, Ford and General Motors found a workaround for that where you can still get that $7,500 from the federal government passed along to you.

Something like that. I was, we talked earlier in the week when we get together and record commercials for some of the dealers in the country.

And you mentioned this whole Ford and GM thing. And I'm just kind of amazed by that. I mean, first of all, you're certainly not breaking the rules.

They found a way to do it with all the, I guess, the existing inventory they had to continue that EV lease credit. And I thought that was genius. I mean, how smart is that to do that?

It was genius. And you notice, and I said this earlier, but I wonder which one of them came up with it first and then the other one stole the idea.

Somebody had to it because I don't think they both came up with it. No, this is two. This is two. It was just genius.

And you mentioned that they didn't announce until the very end of the month.

Yeah. Oh, the last day so that other automakers wouldn't figure it out exactly and copy them. I think that's pretty smart.

Yeah. Oh, yeah. Because everybody else missed the boat.

I'm sure they're slapping their heads. But you also mentioned that the other thing that's interesting is that there are other makes out the other manufacturers who were continuing really aggressive discounts on their cars to kind of combat all this.

Yeah. I mean, for instance, the Hyundai, I like five, which has been a very popular electric vehicle.

Hyundai, the day after the 7500 one away, Hyundai lowered the price of those things by 10 grand. Oh, really? Yeah, smart.

So they want to stay in the EV business. And so instead of offering the 7500 from the federal government, they just come around.

Well, do you want better? We'll reduce the price team. There's nothing but great for the person out there thinking they miss the boat.

Well, especially people who leased, you know, and the only way to get an electric car is to lease.

Yeah. I've said that here on the show many times. I've got an electric car. I least, you know, it's the only way.

The market's too uncertain to purchase and get yourself locked into a long term commitment.

Yeah. Let's talk to John in Baytown, Texas. John, what's going on? My friend, how can I help you?

Yes, sir. I love my 2021 400 SR or five with the six bangers. Yeah, buddy.

But my driving habit is I floor it a lot.

Okay. I'm wondering if you left bad for an engine.

You know, I think you got to you got to look at the RPM. And if you're if you're coming up close on that red line, I would not hit the red line at all.

I think you could do some damage. I think you shorten the life of the engine. But if you're going up to the red line.

I don't I don't it's tough as that engine is. I wouldn't tell somebody that had other kind of cars, the same thing, but I'm telling you because you got a four runner.

And they're indestructible virtually. I mean, it's just it's hard to wear a four runner out.

So I'd go up. I'd watch that tack and I'd go up to the red line, but I wouldn't I wouldn't hit it, but I'd come close to it.

And I don't think you're going to hurt anything. Just do your maintenance. Make sure you're getting that all changed when you should.

You know, that sort of thing. I think you'll be fine. I drive like you. I drive like you, but I don't plan to keep a car forever.

Do that believe a record of my driving habits in a black box or something that computers somewhere on the vehicle?

No, it does not. The black box will only will only record things that happen in the event of a wreck.

So it only stores about 10 seconds worth of data. Now with that said, your phone, if you got your phone on in the car, it may well be recording the data.

Then some car companies and I don't think Toyota does, but some car companies will send that information to insurance companies. They pay them for it.

So if you're wanting an extended warranty and it gets dicey when you get a car up close to 100,000 miles or maybe more than five years old.

Because a lot of those warranty companies will take your money, but then they'll not cover anything. Right.

You know, they just they take your premium, but then they don't pay out. They all all that's buried in the fine print. Interesting.

I have a question. I'm looking. I'm walking out of a grocery store. Oh, okay. I am looking for a hybrid midsize SUV or a pickup.

And I don't know if I should buy one in 2026 or hold off till 2027.

Well, what are you driving now? Well, I'm driving a Mercedes hybrid and I love it. And I did lease it because they said do not buy it.

And I got a great discount on it. And I'm thoroughly enjoying it because I get 50 miles to a charge. Yeah.

And that pretty much, you know, I can get around without I haven't bought it. I bought one tank of gas since June when I bought it. And that was only because I had to drive to San Diego.

So you've got a plug in hybrid. I do. And is that what you want with the next?

No, not necessarily. Okay.

Does it matter to you if you have a third row seat? If you're going to go with an SUV? Okay. No.

You know, I personally think Toyota Lexus have the best hybrid systems out there.

I'm paying close attention to Honda and Hyundai Kia both. They both got fairly new systems. I don't have the history on those Toyota.

I got 25 years that I can stand on and say, hey, these things are outstanding long term. So Toyota has a hybrid.

Yes. Oh, there are, you know, some people some people say that the ramp for is mid size. I don't think it is. I think it's a little smaller.

Okay. You can go with the high high lander, which is terrific. I love it. It does have a third row seat. But you could leave it down and add a lot of cargo area to the back.

Which was a lot of people do. There is another SUV between them called the Crown Signia.

I have reviewed the Crown Signia. It only comes as a hybrid.

And if you, if you'll go to my website when you get a second and at carpro.com, there's a search box at the top.

And just type in Signia SIG NIA. It'll pull my review up. I loved it. It hasn't been a big seller for Toyota, which was a little bit of a surprise to me.

Because I expected it to be. It's a different kind of SUV. And you'll see when you see the picture, you'll get exactly what I'm talking about.

It's more of great. It's got kind of a, and I don't want to sour you on it. But it's got a little bit of a station wagon look about it.

But it sets up really high. And it rides and drives great. And it's super quiet inside. And you've got really good visibility out of it.

So, that might be an option. A Lexus RX is always a good choice.

Here, yeah. A long time listener and about several Ford trucks from you in the last probably 20 years had a quick question about my 2023 F250.

It's got those front parking sensors. And we found my wife at boats driving separately that they will stop abruptly, almost causing accident sometimes.

And I brought to the dealer to check the calibration. They said it was fine. But I'm wondering if you've heard of that being an issue with those 223 F250s or what we can do by it.

Because I have a feeling at some point it's going to stop abruptly and someone's going to hit me and back or something.

No, I've not heard about that. In fact, I've never heard that complaint before. Usually those things are really bulletproof.

Does it matter if you're on level ground or if you're on a incline of some kind?

It doesn't matter. I can be at a level stoplight or just about anything. And all of a sudden it'll just stop. You'll get this monthly break thing while I'll be in a parking garage.

And I figured there's probably a lot of distraction. It's picking it up and maybe it's just oversensitive and could be calibrated down. But like I said, and checked out, they said it was normal, but it is not normal.

No, you know, I think they probably whoever whatever dealer you used to work on the calibration probably didn't do it properly.

And I would take it back to them and I would talk to the service manager. Does it do it all the time?

No, it doesn't do it all the time. And all this seems to do it in patches where like it'll do it several times.

And then it'll be fine for you know, a hundred miles and also you'll be at a stop light and traveler yet going. You'll press on the accelerator and also notice just stop.

Okay, you know, it's getting hidden back and you know, the current fund is clearly driven away. So it's just kind of bizarre.

That makes me think it's not the calibration. It's a sensor itself. They did not replace the sensors, right?

No, sir. Okay, I would ask them to do that. They'll probably have to get permission from forward. If it was a calibration issue, it would be consistent.

And since it's not tells me something else is wrong. So I would talk to the service manager at the dealership and tell him what you got and see if they'll replace the front sensors. I think that my picture problem.

Is the story about the top 30 vehicles, the list, the cars that are most likely to make 250,000 miles.

That's not just cars, that's trucks and SUVs as well. On that list from IC cars, I actually did some figuring, some ciphering, if you will.

Did you?

Ideally, it took the shoes off and everything. And of the 30 vehicles listed, about a third of them are made by Toyota.

Is that a big surprise?

No, I can't say that it is.

Really not.

They are bulletproof.

And I get accused sometimes of being Toyota biased.

Yeah.

I'm going to tell you the truth, if you ask me a question, and many times, for people who want to keep a car for a very long time.

I've just seen too many of them, too many Toyota's that would just go on and on and on.

I've had listeners that got a million miles out of Toyota Tacoma.

That's crazy.

A million miles out of a four runner is not uncommon. 250,000 miles out of one of their habits.

That's normal.

All you got to do is do your maintenance.

And boy, those cars will take care of you. It's true of Lexus, too.

So yeah, no, that wasn't a big surprise.

Now most people don't keep a car for 250,000 miles.

No.

So maybe that's a big deal to you.

Maybe it's not. But I think we all want to know that we're going to get a good car.

And that's, you know, even if you're leasing, it's reassuring to know that you're not going to be,

even during the term of that leasing, I could be saddled with a whole bunch of trips to get it repaired.

Well, yeah, because your longevity is right there if you want it.

And you know, there's a lot of times that situations change.

People lease a car and then they fall in love with it.

And three years rolls around quicker than you think.

And they go, I'm not ready to get rid of this car.

So you want to keep it.

So you buy it.

Yeah.

So there's none wrong with that.

Yeah.

You know, there's two trains without there.

When, if you're going to lease, you know, get on a cycle of leasing every three years.

So you've got always got a lower payment.

You've always got a car under warranty.

And you're not having to spend any money on the car.

No tires, no, you know, routine stuff that occurs at 50,000 miles or 60,000 miles.

I'm a big fan of leasing, but it's not for everybody.

Thank you for calling.

Sir, what could I do for you?

You know, you were just talking about the Toyota.

And I have an old seven Toyota with only 65,000 miles.

And they are starting to go wrong.

And so, I'm wondering if I should buy a new car.

And I'm wondering between the Toyota and the Subaru.

Well, let's see.

You've got an 07 watt.

What kind of vehicle?

Oh, Corolla, sorry.

Okay.

Corolla.

And things are starting to go.

Age is a factor.

I mean, obviously, you know, miles, that, that away out of car first.

But there's so many rubber seals and gaskets in a car that, you know,

when, when they get to the age that yours is 19 years old, things will start to go wrong.

Now, if you were look at which Toyota and which Subaru are you thinking?

I, you know, I don't know, I haven't looked.

And I wondered between the 35 and 40,000 dollar range.

But I don't know what the prices are anymore.

Yeah.

And they've gone up.

I mean, but you're in a good range there.

Are you thinking of making the transition to an SUV?

What do you think?

I don't know.

I haven't thought about it.

Well, how old are you, Roy?

If you don't mind me asking.

Yeah.

How old are you?

I'm 75.

Okay.

Let me give you the benefits of an SUV as we age.

One is visibility.

No matter what our eyes aren't as good as they used to be.

And an SUV will get you setting up higher.

That gives you a better view of the road ahead of you.

The benefit of that is if there's a wreck in front of you

or if there's something in the road.

When you're setting up higher, you can see those things

before you can when you're setting low in a sedan.

When you go to put things in the back versus, you know, a trunk

where you, let's say you got a bag of groceries weighs 15 pounds.

And you set it down in the trunk.

You got to reach down and pick it up and bring it up

over the lip of the truck, right?

So with an SUV, you can take it out of the car at the grocery store

and just slide it in and then slide it out.

You're not lifting.

You're just sliding essentially.

So, you know, that's two big benefits.

One of the reasons that I love Subaru is because of their eyesight system.

And what that'll do for you is if you start to stray out of your lane,

it'll put you back in your lane.

There's parking sensors because our depth perception as we age

isn't as good as it used to be and you tend to bump into things,

not run into things, but just bump into things.

Still, you're doing some damage.

And those sensors are a big deal for that.

And if you get distracted, that eyesight system will completely

bring your car to a stop.

If you're not looking and you're about to hit something,

it will bring you to a complete stop.

And for those reasons, I'd probably tell you to look at a Subaru.

I think quality wise and durability wise, it's as good as a Toyota.

But I think there are other adventures.

So, for those reasons that I've given you,

I would look at a Subaru cross track that'll fit in your budget

and it's nice size and it drives good and it rides good.

because it involved one of your old dealerships

in the Dallas Fort Worth area.

Yeah.

One that was, you said it was a Dodge store.

Dodge Grasher Jeep Ram.

And Carvada, you know, the company that has the big giant,

whatever the vending machine thing where you put a coin in there,

then your car comes out.

I don't even understand.

I'll bet.

But anyway, they apparently bought it.

They did.

And that's the second new car dealership

that they have purchased in the US.

And why this one?

I don't know.

They've had issues.

Carvada's had issues.

I mean, I've covered the newsletter.

They've been in trouble with the government.

Yeah, I remember that.

One state wouldn't even allow them to sell cars

because they were so sloppy with their paperwork.

Hopefully they've got all that fixed.

But.

So they're going to keep it like selling new cars

and I can just make it used, right?

Yeah, that's right.

We'll see how they do because

someone haven't owned a new car dealership

and owned a used car dealership,

even if it's a quote unquote vending machine.

Right.

It's a whole different world.

I would think so.

They're going to have to

take some courses on customers satisfaction.

Ah.

If they are going to be successful.

Yes, it kind of is.

Good morning, Jerry.

Hi there.

Long time listeners.

So I'm in the market,

a buy in an off-road vehicle slash

maybe daily driver,

and I've been looking at the Lexus overtrail

and versus the Nissan Armada Pro 4X.

Yep.

You know, I was looking at the

at the Land Cruiser for off-road

with the Toyota,

but it just doesn't have.

It has the four cylinder hybrid

and it just doesn't have the towing capability.

The, you know, I would probably need

up at that 8,500 to 9,000 pound range.

Yeah.

So what are your thoughts?

Two questions.

One is, are you going to buy?

Or are you going to lease?

And two, how long do you think you're going to keep this thing?

First thing, being an off-road,

and you know, you might think I'm crazy

but we're taking a Lexus off-road,

but from what I understand,

it's about one of the best off-road vehicles

on the market today with the technology.

True.

I would probably, I will buy.

I'll pay cash for it.

And then this might be, you know, I'm 67,

so I'm kind of known to keep cars for a while.

So I'm sure I'll have it for at least 10 to 15 years.

Okay, then it's a no-brainer to go with the Lexus.

I've reviewed both.

Nissan did a great job with the Armada

when they redid it.

I mean, it's nicer than it's ever been by far.

But history tells me that somebody wants to keep cars

long as you think you want to keep this one.

That Lexus or Toyota is in the article

that I had just yesterday in the newsletter.

Toyota and Lexus dominated a scientific list of vehicles

that are most likely to last 250,000 miles.

That's not an accident.

It's in their manufacturing process to build vehicles.

And they are so big on repeat business.

They want you, once you get into their products,

to come back again and again and again.

And people do that.

So in your case,

I would definitely go with the Lexus.
