I will sometimes you gotta make me pay the bill somehow you know what you got to do what you got to do. I'm not proud I'll do whatever. Maybe I'll stop short of seeing that next time. I've always said that about you. That's a disappointing.

Well here we are. We've started October. We've started the third quarter of the year. Just a general overview real quick before we go back to the phones.

Looks like the incentives are holding steadily. The car business this year has been very good sales are up year to date around five and a half percent which is good because last year was a good year.

It didn't set records last year but anytime we the industry gets up over around 15 million vehicle sold everything is good. Everybody makes a good living and everybody's job is secure at the factories and at the dealerships and everywhere else assembly lines.

So you know we're still seeing we're still not seeing a huge change yet due to the tariffs.

And that's been a real surprise to me because I thought you know a few months ago boy cars are really going to take a jump up in price.

I'm seeing that the 2026's are going up cars go up every year but I'm seeing bigger increases this year and that's all tariffs.

So hopefully the auto manufacturers have figured out a way to continue to build cars and make money on the cars without raising the prices as much as the tariffs have raised them.

And that's a good thing you know if the plan comes together and we've got a lot more tariff dollars rolling in and more car companies build cars in the United States the long term benefits that my opinion are going to be very good.

And the fact that we're in October now and you still to this to this week see incentives out there and things I mean certainly not as there with the EV situation being kind of pushed off for a bit thanks to Ford and GM and kind of keeping the fire burning there.

You still see I mean we were expected I think we were kind of thinking at least I was thinking that after the EV rebates were going to be gone that the incentives are going to the tariffs ago up and it would affect everybody and and then there be you know very few incentives to to maybe none and pleasantly surprise that that isn't true.

No it's really not. I have been concerned about December because so many people are on a cycle of buying in December and for years I've said December is the best month of the year to get something especially if you're going to get a luxury car and especially if you're going to lease and I was concerned about that not being the case this year but it's stacking up like you know this fourth quarter is going to be from a consumer standpoint.

Going to be as good as it always is maybe even better than what we were hoping for oh definitely better and we were hoping for hopefully you know equal to or better than last year yeah because last December especially for those people who want to take advantage of tax code 179 I've got all that information if you're self employed or a business owner got all that information in the newsletter already it'll be there through the end of the year.

So you can bone up on that I've got us also in the same section you can now write the interest off on your car loan which you haven't been able to do in years and years and years so there are other incentives besides just rebates that are out there so what I'm telling you.

Thank you for taking my call Jerry I was calling on behalf of a friend of mine who currently has a 2016 Toyota Prius with almost 150,000 miles and she puts on about 20 to 25,000 miles a year on her cars.

She beats them up because she has dogs that come in and out all the time and yeah for a moment she's just rough on her vehicles at home.

She's looking to get rid of the Prius because it's really beat up and has you know so many miles so she's looking for a new car ideally somewhere in the anywhere between 40 to 50,000 dollar range.

She likes the Prius. She loves the size of it the practicality the way drives, loves the gas mileage and the reliability so taking all that into consideration.

She'd like to find something new very similar to that but she wants to step it up a little bit so you know maybe Alexis or she really likes the Audi Q5.

But you know the Audi scares me as far as the reliability goes long term so we'd love to get your ideas as to what might be a good fit for her.

She doesn't want the Toyota R4 or anything you know along those lines and she does have dogs so ingress egress is important so anything too high is not good.

So yeah I was thinking like Alexis and X or something along that was the first one that came to mind is as people tell me what they're looking for cars pop into my head and Lexus in X was the first one.

If it's not quite big enough she could look at the RX now in that budget she'll have to go with the certified one but that's okay because the Lexus certified warranty is the absolute.

Best out there the other one I throw out is the new Honda Passport. It's really really nice and it'll fit in her budget as well so in X would be my first choice.

It's just going to depend on you know how big she's looking for.

Buying a new car truck is like looking at pictures of Kate Upton you see the model you want but don't know whether you can afford it.

It was a lot of money.

As it's mentioned in the newsletter you don't see this really often but a major car manufacturer has pulled the plug on line of cars after one model year.

Yeah really rare.

American Honda pulled the plug on the Acura ZDX the midsize electric crossover was I guess they were gearing up for the second run the second production cycle.

Honda abruptly cancel the project.

So another EV casualty so they've all pulled back sort of kind of yep that's exactly what happened there and it tells you a lot about the EV market yeah and that reinforces why you lease them.

Yeah. Can you recommend a good dealership in Orange County to go to for a Toyota and Honda?

Yeah I can.

Yeah okay.

Yeah I've got really good dealers that have been with me a long time for both of those.

So I'd look at both.

I'm gaining a lot of confidence in the Honda hybrids.

And I was a little bit Larry in the beginning because the last time they tried hybrids back almost ten years ago now.

They were not very good.

But looks to me like they've now got it right and they're doing good.

So if if you decide on Honda, I don't think there's anything in the world wrong with that.

And I think you'll have yourself a good vehicle.

But.

The title is driven and not that comfortable for me in the shooting.

Yeah and that's you're going to run into that with all kinds of different cars.

That's why that's why I stress taking a good test drive.

And that's one that's one thing my dealers will do is they'll give you all the time that you need by yourself.

If you want to drive it by yourself.

And they'll be very patient with you.

So that that's worth a lot.

You need to take at least a half hour test drive.

I prefer an hour.

And I know that sounds like a long time.

But you're making a huge decision.

And you need to make sure that it's right.

And comfort is one of the big big things about buying a car.

I can't count how many people I've talked to through the years who have bought cars.

And you know, they find out after a week that it hurts her back and they can't stand it.

And they got to get out of it.

Well, guess what?

I think just appreciate it a whole lot.

And you can get out of it, but it's going to cost you.

It's just not worth it.

It's it's it's better to invest the time into a good test drive than it is anything else.

You bet, pal. What's going on?

I was curious about your thoughts and opinion on Ford's 7.3 V8 gas engine.

It's my understanding.

I think that engine come out in 2020.

And they had some problems with it in the beginning.

And I'm just curious to know if they've corrected those and what the later models are like.

Well, I sure haven't heard of any issues with it, Randy.

And I know what you're talking about in the early ones.

And I think it may have been 2021.

I've reviewed a couple of them.

It's a workhorse engine as far as power and towing capacity.

The only issue that I hear from listeners is the fuel economy.

When towing, it's apparently just really bad.

Which makes you tend to kind of want to go toward that diesel.

Which has been a great engine.

What do you use your truck for?

Well, I'm considering buying a class C RV.

And I know they put that engine in a lot of those.

Yeah.

And I know gas mileage is not something that people are concerned with usually when they're by vehicle like that.

I'm more concerned about reliability is what I'm concerned about.

Randy, if there were early problems, I can guarantee you one of two things,

what happened, that either fixed them or that it discontinued the engine.

Because one thing the factories don't like to do is pay out big claims under warranty.

And so when those problems like that pop up, they get them fixed quick

or they just quit making that engine and scrap it.

And I know they're still making it.

So that tells me that they've had plenty of plenty of time to get it right.

Well, that sounds good.

You know, you have to have any reliability issues.

No, not at all.

Not at all.

I think you're okay.

You know, I think depending on the length, I think the diesel will do a better job in the mountains.

But I think the V8 is fine for most applications.

You know what it's like when you're driving along and your dog has his head sticking out the window?

It's even better when your dog is driving and your head is sticking out the window.

Not remotely possible.

Now there's advice here, and a lot of it can be kind of common sense.

And then you throw in some stuff that maybe you're not thinking about.

Besides the check in your tires and rotating them all that kind of thing.

Yeah, I do.

This was a very in-depth article.

And the reason I did it now was cold weather sneaks up on us.

And you know, typically it comes in, I mean, it's going to be what in Dallas today?

90?

Yep, 90.

And probably from most coming week.

Which is a good 10 degrees over normal this time of year.

But then sometime in October, we're going to get a cold front.

Come through.

Yep.

And that's going to kick it off.

And then everybody, the first really cold snap.

The first time you watch the hot chick on the weather say it's going to we're going to get down to freezing.

Then everybody panics.

And then they make a mad dash and you're waiting in line and you're not ready.

There's the dealers can't handle it, the repair shops can't handle it.

Because everybody's trying to get it done at once.

If you live in an area that and you know it's coming, do it now.

It'll be cheaper and easier and faster to get your car checked before winter actually gets here.

And there's something you got to do.

You're not like just, you know, kind of forced against the wall because if it's like a heating and the frost system issue,

like your haters not working or there's something going on, you have time to get that figured out.

Yeah, exactly.

And, you know, what if a part's got to be ordered, which is not unusual today.

All that stuff adds up.

So, do it leisurely is my point.

It'll take your time.

It makes sense.

Don't get put behind the power curve.

Do it now.

That's why I wrote the article.

Thanks for taking my call anytime, pal.

Okay.

I had a question.

I've been looking at Mustangs for probably a couple of months now.

Two questions.

One, I did find one, but it reported on car facts.

It had a rear end accident, but the guy also said he had just recently changed the water pump.

But, Carly had like 50,000 miles on it.

So, it seems kind of quick to me to change it.

The model is a 2017.

And my main question is, could you tell me any differences or recommendations between like a 2015-16-17 GT,

or like what's the difference?

Like, I know the leather, obviously, but is there a recommendation on a premium versus just a regular GT?

Or like, what is your recommendation or thoughts on that?

That's kind of a matter of taste and budget, you know?

If you go with the premium, you're going to get a nicer interior.

You're going to get some features that are standard equipment that you're not going to find on the other ones.

The big thing with these cars, Mike, is the way they've been treated.

I've seen people with GT Mustangs.

Same is true for Camaro SS.

Same is true for Challenger Hellcats.

You know, I see them where people have really driven them hard.

And I've seen them where people have babyed them.

And that's the car that you want.

You don't want a car that's been out on the track.

You want a car that somebody has cared for.

It was a daily driver.

And for those reasons, I typically recommend that if possible, you buy the car from a private seller.

So you can talk to them, and you can look them into I.

And you can ask them pointed questions.

How often have you changed the oil?

What maintenance have you done?

Is this car ever been in a wreck?

Then after they tell you, go ahead and get a car auto check report and double check them.

But I just think on a car like that, which may have, that may look great, but it's been driven really hard.

If you're going to keep this car a long time, I'd want to know who drove it.

If there's any way, there's any way to do so.

And on the one with the, did it already have the water pump changed?

I mean, is that normal for 50,000 miles?

Not to me, but I can't rule it out either.

You just, you just never know.

I mean, they could have got a batch of bad because, you know, car companies make very few of their own parts.

They're buying them from suppliers.

And guess what?

They give their business to whoever's the cheapest bid.

And not a great system.

But, you know, I don't know that a water pump would give you any indication of how the car has been treated.

I think it was probably just, you know, one of them things it's a bad water pump.

That wouldn't concern me in the least if everything else.

The wreck would concern me more by far.

And how much damage it has and who fixed it, you know, those are, they're again.

That's another reason to talk to a private seller.

A dealer's not going to know that information.

Right.

And on those three years, did you like one over the other or they're all about the same?

Nothing stands out.

And I reviewed, I typically get a Mustang GT to review at least once a year.

You know, sometimes it might be a year and a half, but I've driven them all.

They don't change the Mustang a lot.

It's just, it's so solid and it's such a, been such a good car.

The history of it has been so good.

They just don't change it a lot.

They'll do some little body tweaks here and there.

Change the headlights, change the headlights, but the structural part of the car is consistent.

And that's what makes a great car when they do that.

Well, they don't do a lot of changing because then the bugs get worked out over time.

And I think the Mustang throw the best cars on the road.

They just told me to ask you through the year you recommend saying away from.

Not in the past.

Just answer that.

Not in the past, not in the past decade.

Okay, not in the past decade.

Yep.

Now on this one car I looked at two were the windshield meet met the the roof.

There was a lot of chip paint right there.

Is that an indication of something or like somebody changed the window out?

It looked almost like maybe the weather stripping or something wasn't there.

Yeah.

And I'm afraid that might be connected to the rack.

And that would that would really concern me.

That's not a that's not a typical place for a car to chip.

Unless you know they somebody sloppily put a windshield in it and wasn't careful when they were putting that molding back on.

I don't think that's probably the case.

I think that's I think that's going to because you got to understand cars have crumples on.

So a car that gets rear ended.

It's not unusual for the top to crumble.

And then that's got to be fixed.

You've heard that when light gives you lemons you should make lemonade.

Well, if you buy a car that's a lemon you can't make a drink out of it.

It can be really deadly.

I really need your advice.

I have to replace my Lincoln navigator that I've had for 25 years.

So it's about time.

I'd say.

Yeah.

And it was really caused by an unfortunate incident as you were just

discussing with the animal.

Oh, problems.

I'm right down the street from my house.

A poor little six point book jumped out in front of me.

Oh, no.

I'm so sorry.

Yeah.

But he survived.

He came back exactly two weeks later.

We feed the deer out behind the house.

Yeah.

And he came back to two weeks later.

He was injured and very skinny.

But he survived.

Was he mad at you?

He forgave me apparently.

Well, that's good.

We looked for him.

We we hiked the woods looking for him.

We couldn't find him.

But I talked to rehabbers and they said that when they're injured

like that, they'll go lie down for up to two weeks while they

try to recover.

Wow.

Well, I hope he didn't suffer a lot.

I hope he didn't need it.

But I felt so terrible about it.

Yeah.

No, you did.

I'm sorry.

It wasn't your fault, though.

You can't help that.

No, he really did just jump right over a guard reel.

So what are you thinking about getting and I'm not trying to rush you,

but we're going to run out of time.

I understand.

Yes, I know.

I need to get to the point.

I want something fairly good size for the safety.

I want something a little bit smaller.

When I say smaller, I mean, actually just a little shorter than my navigator.

Yeah.

I thought maybe the Alex Alexis Alex would be a good choice.

My first choice really was a cayenne.

And I thought it's a little too small, I think.

And then my sister said she loves her BMW X7.

I think it is.

I've only just started considering that.

Okay.

So I want your advice.

I desperately need your advice.

And I know the maintenance cost and history on these things.

I want whatever is the best long term.

We don't have to have a third row seat.

Correct.

That is correct.

It's just my head and myself and our little little dog at this point.

We only have one little dog at this point.

I got I had a cayenne.

I know you did.

And I loved it.

But it is substantially smaller than the navigator.

I think you I think you hit it with the Lexus.

It's a this new Lexus GX is just outstanding.

It's going to not cost you a ton of money down the road.

And they're cheap to maintain.

Go with it.

I think you'll I think you really like it.

Hey, if you have three kids, you might need an SUV, not a Corvette.

If you're a single guy, you can't drag race an SUV.

Hi, thanks for taking my call.

Sure.

My my daughter is in the used car market.

And she found a deal that seems pretty reasonable.

But I just wanted to get your overall impression.

It's a 2015 Nissan Rogue select.

It's got 84,000 miles.

All wheel drive.

It's got a clean car facts report.

I was just a little worried about the CVT transmission.

But was wondering what you think about that?

You are absolutely correct to be concerned about that.

From 2013 to 2016, Nissan CVTs.

If they haven't yet failed, they're about to.

You can just count on it.

And there's no fixing them.

They can't be repaired.

They have to be replaced.

And that's going to cause somewhere between $5,000 and $6,000.

Okay.

I'm going to tell you, it's going to happen.

Now, the problem is, once you get one and you replace the transmission,

that's the same problem again.

There's no better.

So it's going to happen again.

You might get another 60, 70,000 miles out of a transmission

after you've replaced it, but that's it.

I can't recommend it.

I don't think it's a good plan.

If I were her, I'd try to find a RAV4 or a CRV or a Ford Escape

or a Chevy Equinox or anything, but a 2015 Rogue.

She's going to be getting herself a lot, a lot of trouble.

I wish I had better news.
