The CarPro is Jerry Reynolds, former dealership owner and two-time chairman of the Ford National Dealer Council.
Jerry's co-host is Todd Chambliss, a radio guy and commercial voiceover guy.
There is a rumor it may not be true that he gargles for an hour before the show starts.
Here they are now with straight talk and honest answers about everything automotive on the CarPro show.
Thank you very, very much for joining us today. We appreciate you and we thank you for being part of the family.
If you are not a newsletter subscriber, go ahead and do it and try it.
I get so tickled and okay, I always tell the truth here.
Might as well.
I get irritated with people.
Why'd you look at me after you said that?
Well, people will call and just ask this random question such as, I need help shopping for car insurance.
I had that article in the free newsletter yesterday, just yesterday.
Why don't you subscribe?
Give it a shot and if it's not in there, particularly, it's going to be in the FAQ more than likely.
There are over a hundred things in there.
Yeah, and then we've got our website, CarPro.com.
There's a search box at the top.
Put in the topic and you'll be shocked at what pulls up.
I mean, just put in insurance and all the articles, whether it be about dealing with an insurance adjuster,
whether it be about diminished value, how to shop for insurance, which was my advice column in yesterday's newsletter.
All that stuff will pull up and you can click on it and read it.
But the best thing to do is go through the newsletter every week and take a look at the topics.
I know not everybody goes from top to bottom.
Some people do.
I hear from them.
They tell me all about it, you know.
Good and bad, right?
Yeah.
Yeah.
But glad they read it.
I mean, that's a good thing.
For sure.
I've got my closing message from yesterday.
I talked about 9-11.
Yeah.
That anniversary is coming up next Thursday.
I had our tribute to 9-11 in the newsletter yesterday.
Our recalls were all there.
I put a lot of legal stuff in there.
Yesterday we had a story about California dealer suing Honda.
Yeah, I saw that.
Yeah.
And you know, just a lot of good.
You never know what's going to be in there.
I started this newsletter in 2008.
Through the years, I learned what you want to hear and what you want to read about.
And I stick strictly to that.
So some weeks, the newsletter is longer.
Other weeks, it's shorter.
It's not about filling space.
It's about good information that you can use and maybe make you laugh a little bit sometimes.
With the Quick Shifts column, Kim Commando's tech tips of the week, that's huge.
People love that.
Our videos of the week are always some of the most clicked on things that we have.
We have.
So, there you go.
Take the jump.
Won't cost you a penny and we guard your email address like it was our own.
Yep.
And no, that's not full of ads.
I mean, there are no ads whatsoever.
There's no ads.
There's no ads.
Let's talk to Debbie.
She's calling from California.
Debbie, thank you for holding.
What can I help you with?
Yeah, it's fine.
Thanks for taking my call.
My husband and I, we like the styling of the new Toyota Land Cruiser.
Oh, yeah.
The GX550, we're looking at both, but my husband's concerned about the hybrid.
I like the gas mileage, but, you know, we keep our cars 10 to 20 years and he's
worried it's only going to last about 10 years and no longer be good.
So he wants to buy a little bit older, you know, Lexus or Highland or Land Cruiser
that will last longer.
What are your thoughts?
Well, he really needs to get over that.
I've said here on the show a million times.
If I'm going to buy a Toyota or Lexus, I'm only going to buy their hybrid.
And that's that's because of the fuel economy and the longevity of it.
It's extremely rare to see any issues with a Toyota or Lexus hybrid before 250,000
miles and the typical is 300,000 miles.
Even for the hybrids, huh?
Yes, 100%.
And if, you know, I have to question knowing that, why would anybody want to
use more gasoline, especially where you are?
I agree.
Do you like the Land Cruiser or the Lexus better?
Well, now they're both great.
I've got reviews on both at the website.
Just put Land Cruiser up in the search box and put GX up in the search box and
it will it'll pull them up.
But they're very different.
They're both I like the styling of both are both very unusual looking.
They're both modern.
But the Land Cruiser is not going to give you a soft luxury ride like the Lexus is.
So it just depends on which one you like.
Of course, the Lexus is going to be more money.
Although as I pointed out in my first Land Cruiser review, I was very surprised
that moving up to the GX wasn't a big jump like I thought it would be.
It was only a few thousand dollars.
But I kind of, I kind of understand it a little bit better now because
they're so different.
If you want, you know, if you want to do some off-roading in the vehicle,
you can go with the Toyota.
But if you want more of a luxury ride, then I'd go with the Lexus.
What are y'all driving now?
Yeah, we have a Toyota 4Runner and we do need it for the snow.
So we need all the drive for wheel drive just for snow driving.
Yeah, well either one of them, either one of those will be great in the snow.
That's not an issue.
It's driving them daily when, you know, the roads are clear and you're just driving it.
So there's a big difference in the suspension systems under these things.
And you know, I think I would recommend that you drive them both,
look at the difference in price and see which one you guys like better.
The good news is you can't go wrong with either one of them.
They're both spectacular.
Yeah, that's good. You think they'll go $300,000 on the hybrid?
I bet a lot of money on it.
Yeah, well that's good to know. Thank you for your advice.
What part are you in Northern California?
No, Southern California.
Oh, okay. All right.
Well, I've got great dealers for Toyota and Lexus at my website, carpro.com.
Put your zip code in there and it'll pull up the closest Toyota and Lexus dealer to you.
Near the top of the page, just click on find a carpro certified dealer near me.
You'll get the contact, the phone number, the email.
If you take the time to email them, you'll get a VIP certificate that will come in handy.
And they'll make you a great deal even though both those are short and supply.
How tall or short you are is a big factor in what car you buy.
Let the carpro help you. Call 1-800-926-7777.
Some pretty fun stuff in the newsletter.
The videos of the week, Jerry and I both have one.
Jerry's was the number one clicked item this past week.
And it involves a police chase with a grappler.
If you've never seen those things, they wrap around the back wheel and this thing just like yanked the axle right out from under the car.
Well, if the idiot hadn't tried to get away.
Right, right.
He'd have been okay.
Yeah, he was stopped and then he tried to get away and then boom it just yanked the backside off of it.
And that's the most clicked item.
I guarantee you.
And I had the grappler video in my newsletter years ago before any police departments did it.
So it's that new then?
Yeah.
I didn't know how long it had been around.
Five years.
Oh, okay.
More and more police departments are using this.
This is going to put an end to chases.
Yeah.
Yeah.
If police departments can afford to put them on their cars.
And I don't know what they cost, but I can't imagine they're cheap.
But wow.
But better than getting in and getting your car damaged in a chase when you have to do,
you know, like, what was the deal?
The maneuver there?
The pit maneuver?
The pit maneuver.
I couldn't think of the word.
Yeah.
I mean, how many lives are lost because of racks?
Exactly.
From idiots running from the police.
And you're not going to outrun them.
No.
You can't outrun the radios.
No.
You can't run the helicopter.
Absolutely.
And then the number five clicked item was my video.
So I made the top five.
All the way down to five?
All the way down.
Yeah.
I'm just not as good as you.
I'm not the car pro.
What can I say?
This was a high speed chase when a guy collided with a fence right next to a house in Oklahoma
City.
Now this video has a little bit of controversy behind the scenes with it.
This week, Jerry forwarded, I wouldn't say it's an angry email, but a fellow was
not real happy with me.
I'll keep his name off the air.
He doesn't like watching movies vertically.
He likes them horizontally, just like on YouTube.
And I made the, the fatal error of doing a vertical video.
So I apologize.
I will watch that next time.
And I'll be more like Jerry.
And that's just the lesson we need.
Just be more like Jerry.
You know, you could do worse.
I could.
Yes.
Okay.
I hope not.
But yeah, there's that.
How long have you been my co-host not counting today?
It's been not even a year.
Greg in Long Beach.
That went right over your head.
I didn't even catch it.
Greg in Long Beach.
Welcome to the car pro show.
Hello, Jerry.
How you doing?
I'm good, pal.
What can I do for you?
Good.
Good.
I own a 2015 Ford Expedition 8 XL and I love the functionality of the car.
Yeah.
The issue is, it's 10 years old and I'm looking to upgrade.
I have 105,000 miles on it and I had to replace the turbo.
I understand that that might be a chronic problem with these cars.
But I am interested in the Ford Max and any comparable cars like it or trucks like it, if you will.
Yeah.
What do you think about the Denali, Tahoe or maybe even the Toyota Sequoia?
Well, are you going with the extended length again?
Yeah.
Okay.
I like the 4x8 sheets of plywood that you could put in the back that brings versatility.
Yeah.
Well, you're going to have to go with the Expedition Max or the Denali XL or the Suburban.
The Tahoe is not going to do that.
Neither is the regular length Denali.
I am driving, as we speak, the 2025 Expedition Platinum Max.
Okay.
That review will be in the free newsletter next Friday.
I've really thoroughly enjoyed this thing.
They've made so many improvements in it.
It's amazing.
It's been over the 2024.
Oh, yeah.
I was thinking of the 2023 and 2020.
Go on to the 2025, especially if you're going to keep it for 10 years because down the road,
the resale value is not going to matter one year to the next.
But there is a world of difference in this thing.
In fact, the dealers are having trouble keeping them on the lot.
Everyone's got the 3.5 EcoBoost HO, which means it's got 440 horses versus 400 with the regular EcoBoost.
So the towing capacity is 9,000 pounds on this thing.
Acceleration is great.
It's roomier inside.
It's larger than the 2024.
The screen setup is spectacular.
Absolutely love it.
So if I were you, I would go with it.
Yeah, there were some problems with the 3.5 a decade ago, but no more.
I mean, they've really got that thing perfected.
I've got some good Ford dealers at my website.
Talk to them and see what they can do for you on one.
I think that's the way to go.
There are critical factors to consider if you're going to tow something.
Find out what they are by calling the CarPro Jerry Reynolds at 1-800-926-7777.
And next up, Alan in Friendswood, Texas.
Welcome.
Alan, how can I help you?
Whoa, Alan, are you there?
Hey, Jerry.
Hey, buddy.
What's going on?
I was trying to get the speaker off of speakerphone.
No problem.
I wanted to thank you and Jerry.
I wasn't you and Todd for the work you do.
I really appreciate it.
Thank you, thank you.
I have a question about Honda Accord.
I had a 2018.
I think the new Accord is kind of bland in its styling.
And I was wondering if you've heard of any type of a redesign for that car?
Boy, Alan, I have not.
Now, I will tell you, 2018 was the first when you got yours.
That was a redesign year.
They did it again in 2023.
So it's three years right now.
The typical life cycle of Honda is between five and six years.
So I think we're probably a couple of years away from a new redesign on the Accord.
And it may even be longer than that.
Because what I'm seeing with all the automakers is they're stretching the cars out
and doing the redesigns on the SUVs because that's where the market is right now.
SUVs have become the most popular thing on the road.
So I think you're probably three years away and it could even be four.
Okay, because based on the number you see on the road, it looks like sales are down.
And that might be because of the design I don't know, which I thought might prompt a quicker redesign.
You know, I think it's more the car market, the sedan market than anything.
Okay.
You know, if I were you and you want to trade for something
and you want to look at something that's a little bit different and you like styling,
look at the Genesis G80.
It's going to be a little more money, but it's got a 10-year, 100,000-mile warranty
and I think it's a beautiful car.
Okay.
And especially inside, the seats in this thing are just outstanding.
If you'll go to carpro.com in the search box at the top, put in G80
and it'll pull up my last review.
Amy actually may have had that one last.
I can't remember.
But look at that.
That might be a good alternative.
Can start to feel like its own workout.

It's The Car Pros show with Jerry Winnells, The Car Pro and I'm Todd Chambers,
the newsletter every single week.
Chalk full of fantastic information.
There was a Lexus NX update that you posted.
Yeah.
And the newsletter this week.
What's the story with that?
Well, they were doing a redesign on it and it's such a popular little SUV
and one that I recommend so much.
How many years has it been since they did the update on that?
Oh, I think it's been probably four.
Okay.
That's faster than they normally do.
They typically wait a little bit longer before they update.
Well, Lexus does, but I think because this thing is so popular
that they decided they needed to step up their game a little bit.
Understand that.
I agree with that.
Yeah, I do too.
And it looks like it's going to be really super nice.
My vice column in next week's newsletter is what you need to know
about branded titles.
Branded titles.
Yes.
I walked you through in this.
There's there's roughly five or six different things that can happen
to a car that will cause it to have a mark on the title forever
that stays with the car.
It can be a salvage title that was a car that was totaled,
a rebuilt title, a flood or water damage title,
a limit law buyback title or an odometer rollback title.
Could that be a part of it too?
Would that be one that could be?
No, not unless the car gets totaled.
Oh, OK, gotcha.
So and that does happen sometimes.
Yeah.
Not that the amount of damage that's done from the person
stealing the car, breaking up the dash or the ignition.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Sometimes repairing that's more than the car's worth.
Then that's going to be a salvage title.
Interesting.
Yeah.
All right.
So if you're not familiar with the term branded title.
First time I've heard of that actually.
Well, then you need to read my vice column next week.
I will do it.
In the free weekly newsletter.
And we go to Lubbock, Texas, K F Y O with JD.
JD, what's going on?
Hey, thank you for the line, Jerry.
What's up?
I need your wisdom about a lease that's expiring in December.
OK.
Got it.
My wife has a 23 outback with 17,000 miles on it.
And, you know, we owe, I guess the purchase price is 24 five.
She's okay without that.
We got it because it was one of the only things that was in stock.
As you know, and 23.
But she would like something the same size with a little bit more
muscle.
Previously, she had a wrap for lost the battle with an F 250.
And she also likes the Lexus and Acura.
I'm trying to stay around 500 bucks a month.
I know we got a ton of equity in it.
Yeah, you do.
You got a lot of equity in that one.
And are you going to lease again?
Yes, sir.
Okay.
I'm going to lease again.
She'll probably be driving more miles as will be, you know,
relocating either to Houston or Austin.
But just made wisdom there.
I mean, it's a really nice color, but it didn't have much
get up and go.
No, they're not.
They're not about the power.
They're about safety and reliability.
Yeah, you got a lot of equity in the thing.
You know, if she liked it, I'd tell you to buy it because
it's a bargain.
But if she doesn't like it, then take that equity and put
it towards something that she will like.
I think I think she'd love the Lexus NX get the hybrid.
Not only does not only does it get better fuel economy,
but it's got more power.
And that's a plus.
I'm a big fan of the Acura RDX.
It's a fun car to drive.
That thing rides and drives like a dream.
And I would tell you to look at a Genesis GV 70.
They lease very well.
And it is it's got just a lot of neat features that I think
she would probably love.
And what I would love to see you do is not put all your
equity down because at the end of the lease, that money is
gone.
So if I put some of the money away, put down what you
have to to get to 500 bucks a month or wherever you
all are comfortable.
And lease again, make sure if you're going to be putting
more miles on it, make sure you go to, you know, either
12,000 or 15,000 miles a year so that you're covered.
And you should be in great shape.
When are you moving to Austin?
Timing is probably in the next six months.
And, you know, there's options for Austin and Houston.
So I haven't figured that one out.
Well, I got good dealers in both places that will help you
at my website.
We're on the air in both places.
And so you don't have to lose us just because you're
leaving KFYO country.
And we'd love to stick with us.
Let me know how I can help you.
I would definitely, I would definitely, if she don't
love it, I would, I'd make a change.
I think she'll be happy.
Diane in Sweeney.
Welcome.
How can I help you, Diane?
I'm sorry.
Three.
Hey, Diane.
Sorry about that.
Oh, okay.
Thank you for taking my call.
Yeah, I'm a Ford gal.
And I had to purchase a 2023 Ford F-150 four wheel drive
super, super crew, the power boost.
Nice.
And I like to truck a whole lot.
It only has 20,000 miles on it.
And I had to take it in for air conditioning problem.
And they did their reflash or whatever was recommended.
Well, I got down the road for about 20 miles and it started
doing the same thing.
It's blowing hot air or it's not blowing at all.
So I brought it back in.
And well, it's still there.
And I'm kind of wondering if I should really get worried
about it.
And I'm wondering if I'm going to have some problems or
issues in the future that you've heard of.
I mean, I don't want to buy another truck.
This, you know, like the idea of the, you know, the generator
and all that stuff.
But I'm just unsure right now.
You don't need another truck.
They'll get to the bottom of that.
Air conditioning systems are very complex.
It can be a lot of different things.
And they're not going to go in.
Ford will not allow them to go in and just replace every
single part of the air conditioning system.
So it may take them a time or two to go through a
process of elimination, try the most likely thing first.
And you got away and that didn't work.
So now they'll try something different.
But just work with it with your dealer.
And I promise you, they'll get to the bottom of it.
This is not a common problem with that truck.
So you got to one off and that happens.
And look, it can happen with Mercedes and Lexus and Ferrari
and you name it, just name a car.
And this kind of stuff can happen.
So you got a great truck, you're low miles.
I'd look at an extended warranty if you don't have one
just to be safe.
But I think you're going to be fine.
Thanks for calling Kiddo.

Call the car pro at 1-800-926-7777.
And welcome back to the car pro show with Jerry Reynolds,
the car pro and Todd Chambliss here.
The newsletter had the latest auto sales results for August
2025.
Now, not the big one.
The big one comes out, I guess, at the end of September,
at the end of the quarter, right?
Yeah, the quarterly.
There's, I think there's 11 or 12 car companies that
report sales monthly.
The rest of them report quarterly.
Gotcha.
So I gave you what actual sales that were reported.
What you had, of course, because you don't have everybody.
No.
No big surprise Toyota at the top of the heap.
They're up 14% for doing well too.
Honda apparently had, Honda and Subaru both kind of
went down, actually.
Yeah, they've cut back on their production some.
And this is a direct result of the tariffs.
Yeah.
So they didn't have as many cars as the inventory,
they didn't sell as many.
And Hyundai and Kia up, which is good, of course.
Oh, they're setting records.
I mean, with the Telluride, the Palisade,
even the Carnival is doing well.
Yeah.
Which that's a good little vehicle.
That is two car companies that are on fire.
Absolutely.
Hyundai and Kia.
Yeah.
So they're bargains and they come with a great warranty.
Yeah.
You know what?
I think their designers are putting out car designs that
are as good as anything I've ever seen.
And to keep them at the price that they've kept them.
Yes.
Nothing short of amazing.
Yes.
Totally.
Let's talk to Walter in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Walter, what can I do for you?
Jerry, thanks for taking my call.
You bet, pal.
My wife and I are 70-year-old retirees.
We have been driving Hondas for the last 30 years,
typically keep them for 10 years.
So we're interested in maybe that last car,
looking for something that's quiet, comfortable,
lots of technology, set for adults.
And so far, I've been researching the Mercedes-Benz E-Class,
the BMW 530i, Genesis G80.
And the Lexus 350 may be the hybrid.
But it seems to me all of them are one premium gasoline.
Is that the case?
Yeah, probably.
It's recommended.
Doesn't mean you have to use it.
So that's another article at my FAQ page.
I got a fuel section there.
They tell you they recommend premium
because it gets the most fuel economy.
So when they rate the car,
and they put that number on the window sticker,
they're recommending premium
because it performs better on premium.
But when you look at the difference in cost,
even if you drop a mile per gallon,
the difference in gas is huge.
There can be a dollar difference
between regular unleaded and premium unleaded.
Now, the exception to that is
when you get into some real high horsepower cars,
you know, 500 horses or more.
I've got a Mercedes that's got 603 horses under the hood.
I tried regular in it.
It didn't perform as well.
I went to premium.
But that's the first time in all these years
that I've had a car
that didn't run just as good on regular
as it did on premium.
So take that out of the equation.
Your list is good.
I think...
When it comes to quiet and comfortable,
how would you rank them?
I'd put the E-Class first.
The BMW 5 Series second.
And I do own a 5 Series.
I leased a new one earlier this year.
And I love the car.
Don't get me wrong,
but I've had E-Clases in the past as well.
I think that it's quieter.
I think the Mercedes is quieter.
The ES350 is probably the one that will go the furthest
with the least amount of trouble.
That's typical of a Lexus.
And the G80 has got the nicest interior
and probably is the most fun to drive.
If I were picking based on what you're telling me
in your list of wants,
I'd go with the Mercedes E-Class.
That's what I'd do.
And Bill, as you said, you got the last word this hour,
sir.
What could I do for you?
Hello, Jerry and Todd.
Hello.
Hi, buddy.
I've got a 2015 Cadillac ATS.
Yeah.
130,000 miles on it.
I'm getting kind of leery of it.
And I wondered if I should sell it outright
or trade it in, maybe lease something.
How does it look, Bill?
Is it in good shape?
Yeah.
It looks good.
OK.
It's got a ding in the trunk lid,
but somebody backed into it.
Oh, boy.
Yeah.
But other than that, it's clean.
I think you could probably net yourself
a couple of thousand dollars more
if you want to mess with selling it yourself.
No.
Now, if you want to see what it's worth,
go to my website, carpro.com.
Up at the top of the page, click sell a car.
Put the information in there.
They'll get back with you within,
usually less than an hour with an actual bid.
And they'll tell you what they'll write a check for.
That's a good barometer for what you can get for it as a trade-in.
If you want to sell it yourself,
you can add a couple thousand dollars to that
and put it on auto trader.
Problem there is you're going to have people coming to your house
and it's just a mess.
But if you can sell it to my people
or you can trade it in,
and I'm sure one of my dealers will give you the same amount of money
as what you got offered on it.
So, you know, there is a little tax advantage
if you trade it in on the sales tax.
So I'd look at it both ways,
but yeah, I think it's time
you need to get out and start looking at some new cars.
I appreciate the call, my friend.
