"Yeah. Sort of like that OK it. It kind of, you know it also it kind of looks like Cruella Deville's car, but you know, just just more flat, you know it and and with no accents on it. Yeah, yeah. Look, I could see this car turning into a transformer."
"...ex appeal. What Car am I guys? Is it a Volkswagen Golf? Incorrect. No. I know, I think I know what it"

There's a professional radio. That's front wheel drive so.
Have you got anyone you want to thank?
Just myself. And now I do the after hours,
gentlemen. What would you go for?
They see us in there, OK, And because it's not a super duck, it's not automatic. Perfection comes in the form of
two letters. A&U.
Long live my Ltd. Welcome to Carter.
It's Tuesday night here on 8.9 NW FM.
It's me, Manny J, on line with Mr Scotty Doe Johnson, Mr Alamdeep Singh and Mr. David Prince.
How are you, gentlemen? Good.
Thank you. Good, thank you.
Happy to be here very much. Good to see all your lovely
faces. Got to see a few of you on the
weekend, which we'll cover a little bit later.
Go around the screen Scotty, how are you doing man?
You got some news that you're teaching Year 6 next year?
Yeah, supposedly. We'll see.
Big dogs, hey? If not, new school.
Alan, Dave, how's work with you mate?
What's been happening on your end?
There's not a whole lot. I might be on Tassie next week
or in the coming weeks. OK.
Would you be an interesting thing I'll talk about a little bit further on? Yeah, sounds good.
Part of the car updates I think in a way.
Sounds good. Cool.
And David Prince, how are you doing, my friend?
I'm doing really well, thank you.
What's? Been happening in your world?
Any more Land Rover doors that have been needing needing repair? No, that reminds.
Me, she actually hasn't rung me to say that it's all done and and sent me your email address to Biller, but so I'll have to follow that up tomorrow. Thanks for the heads up.
I'll. I'll remember that now.
You'll, you'll be charging her for extra time now, David.
Yeah, indeed I will. Let's crack up with some car
updates. Scotty O Johnson updates with
you, my friend. Nothing really, other than I'm
sure we'll talk about what happened on the weekends, what we did on Sunday. Is that like?
Japan. Yeah, but I've got I've got no
car updates on my end. So that's that's easy done.
What about Mr Alamdeep Singh? OK, first bit of update is I got
to drive my old WRX on Friday which you came and saw Mr Maddie. I did the memories, the
memories. Swabbing back.
Swabbing back. It's all coming back.
My brother in law and sister were going to some kind of event in the Yarra Valley, I believe some rich family friends farm they were going to. And so, you know, since there's
a off road opportunity, there's more so a reason because they just had like a gravel drive and it was quite a few acres.
He wasn't that keen on taking the Rexy, which I thought, hey, it's an all wheel drive. What are you doing?
It's a. Rally bred car.
Yeah, and after driving, I can see why.
So he, you know, he was like, well, can I take the the DMX?
I was like, you know what, this would be the first time the DMX has been off road, I think. So that's not the worst thing.
You know, I it was stopping a pavement Princess and, you know, kind of go off road. I don't mind that.
So we, you know, we swapped cars.
He brought the the Rexy over. My dad parked it in the driveway
because I think I was busy, which I was, you know, quite surprised that he was willing to give that a go and took it to work in the morning and I had a blast.
It's just like, obviously because I'm dealing with a Gen like a massive cap in generations between the STI and the the old Rexy, there are probably modifications that have kind of gone in between the generations WRX that make it similar to the, you know, STI's. But the STI's are very much, if
you're not driving it like at 10 tenths, yeah, it's not as keen.
It's not, it's not a car you can really putt around, or at least it's not very happy being putt around.
Whereas the the Wrexi was always happy just putting around.
You can kind of drive it at those slow speeds very comfortably. And I think that's why the the
Rexy has always been a more approachable car.
And so yeah, like just having that just driving to work to sound the the intake, make the blow off sound consistently, you know, revving it up to about 3000, getting into boost and just doing the wash. You know, it was it was quite a
quite a fun experience getting back in that car.
Since my brother in law's had it.
However, he has gotten new coilovers and he has changed the rims and I think the coilovers are probably the bigger issue here. I don't know what he ended up
going for coilover wise, but they're very, very stiff like on the way home. If anyone has been on, you know,
trying to dox myself at Grand Blvd here in Craigieburn, it is a bouncy Rd. I think Edward Bunting will
attest to that because he's come to sell me a couple of cars or, you know, do some transactions and he he, you know, always.
No, it's not particularly grand. I think it's been ruined by a
lot of trucks and the council refuses to fix it until they're confident that there won't be many more trucks on it.
And coming back home on that, the car hit the bumps like it's it's again, like I said, it's a bumpy Rd, but I never expected, I guess, given the suspension. Yeah, change in the car, it's
for it to hit the bump stops. That's what kind of got me.
I'm like, I think you probably made the car too stiff considering again, it's a daily and from what I can tell, it does have adjustable dampening. So maybe he's just dialling it
wrong, or he's just gone for make it as stiff as he can.
What colour is it he put it in? I don't know.
I don't know. I should have asked.
I think he was looking at BC Quillers at the time, but he also was looking at TNS, I think.
So I'm not 100% sure. I'll probably ask him.
He probably hasn't also adjusted anything on him ever since he's got them installed. Yeah.
And that might be something worth doing because the car is obviously lower. I do like the the low aspect of
it, except for when it kind of scraped coming out of my own driveway. And yeah, it's a, it's a pretty
still a pretty like joy filled kind of drive just even just to work. And it kind of throws that back
to me like you should have a fun daily.
It's, you know, it changes the dynamic of just getting to work.
Hang on, you did. Sorry.
You did you used to I. Did have, yeah, I did, I did.
But you know, nowadays I drive AD Max to work, which there's no fun to be had on that. No, yeah, no.
So. With what so obviously the
coilovers have lowered have they as well yes.
So new rims, have they gone up in size?
So the. I believe they went he went from
yes 17 to eighteens which isn't a huge difference.
No. And I think he's. 17 standard or
was that what you had on it? Seventeens were standard.
OK, yeah. And I think he's got wider tyres
on 240 fives, SO2 Fifteens. OK.
Yeah, so it did go on like it was on rails, you know, when the road was smooth. Yeah, but again, whether it got
bumpy or. But I mean we.
Live in Melbourne, you can't, you can't actually, you know, like rely on on on a smooth bit of Rd anymore, I mean.
You really can't. They just, they're falling
apart. So yeah, I think coilovers, I
wouldn't like to be in the coilover business at the moment trying to. I'm in Melbourne.
I reckon you still be able to sell them, it's just you'll have some angry customers that are returning.
When I had coilovers in the Forester, so it originally, like we originally put BCS in it and they were terrible, like horrible, horribly stiff and, and they were, they were the more comfort orientated ones. I'm like, they can't all be this
bad. And then I got, I got them done
by by Reed and Harkon. He put his own branded ones in
there. And yeah, it was stiff, but it
was, it was so much more compliant and it actually felt better. So if you get a good set of
coilovers and they're set up right, you'll, you know, it'll, yeah, it'll be, it'll be firm or right as, as you'd expect, but you won't, it won't be as yeah, it, it, it won't be terrible.
So I guess it's just about getting those settings right on the car as well too. Like, you know, it's there,
there are a thing where people think, Oh, you know, completely stiff is, is the way to go. It's, it's not you need
compliance in a car and it's, it's actually it, it's like, and, and they've proven the fact with the, with the civic Type R, you know, in full R Plus mode, it's way too stiff, like on a track and like it's bouncing all over the joint.
Like, whereas you put in an individual with everything on a race except for the suspension on comfort.
It's a quick, it's a, it's not on a quicker car because it's, you know, it's more compliant. It takes the bumps, it's not
shaking you all all over the road.
So you know, stiff isn't always best in, in the, in the in the car industry in, in, in, in that.
And so you do need compliance. And, you know, I, I, I, you know
what, what I got to put, what I got to put in, in the in the forest. The readers like to me, he's
like, look, I've got a how I like it.
But like you can, you can saw something up and everything.
And I softened it up a touch and it's been perfect ever since.
So like, it's still, as I said, it's still firmer, but it's not, it's not like throwing you all off the road, like, you know, So yeah, it's, it's about finding a balance, I think.
Yeah, that's yeah. Because when I owned it,
obviously the car had already done 212 when I bought it and then it I got to about 260 in my ownership.
So the old shock absorbers particularly were, you know, ready to kind of be changed out. Like the, the suspension was
pretty soft. And that was the thing where I'm
like, even if he had changed it just for a fresh set, I reckon he would have gotten a reasonable amount of stiffness and we possibly could have been happy with that.
But obviously he wanted to go the full call over route, which is still OK. It's just, I think the way he's
set up is probably too stiff, But it's his problem for the most part for now is, you know, until I hopefully one day get the car back so, you know, again, like I said, it was a fun experience going back to the car.
It made me miss it. I was like, where have you been?
You know, come back to Daddy. What year is it?
Is that an 04? 03. 03 OK, yeah, yeah, it's not
too far off a club plate. No, it's not.
It's not. And they're actually talking
about getting a new, I guess daily car that's of course going to be an SUV or, you know, full drive.
And so I said, well, yeah, if that's the case, you can give me my car back. But they got a bit cagey on
that. I'm like, you didn't pay for
this with it was with the condition that you'd eventually give back. So I think they're trying to
propose a Co ownership situation where we build it up together and share. I'm like, I don't know.
We'll see. So if you were to get that car
back, would you take it back to factory like standard?
I've probably I'll probably try and push it in an OEM plus route again. Keep in mind the car's now got
350,000 KS on West. Wow.
Original engine, original gearbox, which does occasionally get angry going into 4 the fuel you know high revving it just to like I said 350,000 KS on a Subaru a turbo Subaru.
I think we've already won. Yeah, it's.
Good. Yeah, 100%.
So it may be something that becomes maybe obviously budget permitting, a restoration style endeavour that'll be very slow going. So until then, it's still a
daily for my brother in law. So we'll just wait for the day
that they get a new car and I guess start the discussion there. But like give you back my car
the. Interesting thing is it like at
that mileage, I mean it's value is pretty limited, isn't it?
Like most people would go wow, Rex with 350,000 KS a year old with the next one, you know? So yeah, it's probably
realistically doesn't have a huge value to it anyway, so.
No. And like the pain's faded, that
sort of stuff. And yeah, maybe it'll be like
the the gold Rex that we try and get up to half a million KS or something. It's like the Rex with the most
amount of KS. See, it can be done.
It can be done. Subaru can take it back from me,
at a cost of course, and, you know, showcase it in Subaru Docklands as you know, UC. Docklands.
Yes. And just to show the the
naysayers that it can be done, Subarus are long lasting early in limited circumstance, but of course, yeah, so second car update was a second automotive update.
Sharon, that's Mum Also. My boss was kind enough to
finance a truck licence for me, so I'm now the proud holder of a heavy rigid truck licence. It's good to.
Know, and initially I think they were supposed to get me a medium rigid or an Mr and you know, in typical old fashion, I went winging to share and I was like, Sharon, come on, I want the big licence. And she's like all right.
Because in the grand scheme of things, it's not that large of a difference between the cost of the actual course.
I think it's only like 100 bucks or 150 bucks and you might as well just have the biggest 1 you can, you know?
Because you can run the big trucks, wouldn't it?
Sorry, that would be what the same that Chad's got.
Yeah, I think so, yeah. I think he's got a heavy Regent,
yeah. Because I think to drive a bus
you only need a medium, but obviously some of our work relates to a truck more than a bus and because I've now got a truck licence I may be going to Tasmania in a truck on the spirit of Tasmania to deliver some glass.
Good. Yeah, so another company finance
trip, which I'm always happy with because your boy's ALDI and he loves the overtime. So I've never been to Tasmania
before, and I think it'll be an interesting experience.
I always wanted to take a car and, you know, do the drive through the area, you know, go around, see some sights.
But, you know, I think the truck's not gonna be the best vehicle for that. I don't think you'll be
following the target route. Let's.
Put it that way. No, no, but you know.
Do you know where the delivery is to?
So now I definitely will be going to Davenport, as they call it, not Davenport, which I knew to learn.
And then maybe Launceston. I don't think I'll go all the
way down to Hobart. OK, OK.
Which I think I'd be happy with because with the truck, you know, you're going slower. Good 3540 minute drive.
I think in the truck it'd be a nice a nice long one because I'm supposed to be setting the example for the other other people going into future. So I have to really milk that
time and be like it took two days.
You know, it's slow going to, you know, stop for safety brakes and not photo breaks at all, just safety breaks.
Have you Have you heard about the debacle with the Spirit of Tasmania? No.
Oh, OK, so they've they've built 2 new new boats, 2 new spirit of Tasmanians in, I'm going to say Finland.
Yeah, they contracted for them. They're actually too big to fit
in a Devonport. So the Oh, and and something.
There was something to do with the.
Fact that the. Company building the boats
looked like they were going with pear shaped, so the Tasmanian government propped them up to get the boats finished.
This is all, you know, third, fourth hand.
So they're some of the best stories, aren't they?
So the details won't be right. But the crux of The thing is we
can't even get them because they can't birth at the old site, at the old dock in in Devonport, in the river.
And they actually haven't turned the first sod to actually build the port for them to dock in in Tasi yet.
So the boats are now once I saw a news story the other day one's going, I think to Scotland to be put to be doing sea trials in Scotland. And another one's been alone to
Sweden I think in in the interim.
So there are Spirit of Tassie boats getting around the Northern hemisphere doing doing the hard yards that theoretically the Tasmanian government owns, but can't park them anywhere. I suppose it's the, the, the sea
going equivalent of buying a Hummer and trying to park them, you know, in your underground car park, aren't they?
Yeah. So like I said, back to the
story of my dad buying a Pajero and I'll be able to fit that in now small New Zealand garage. At least we were able to return
that one OK and get a nice Honda Civic shuttle.
Are they you know, whereas. I don't think they're going to
be able to get something small. They don't trade in no as
easily. Yeah, it sounds rather silly.
Yeah, it's one of those things you just scratch your heads and think that I didn't think that's true.
Anyway, not car related but. Could you of taxpayer money,
That's that's for sure, yeah. So yeah, it's a possible trip to
Tasmania in the in the company truck.
We'll keep the people posted, you know, I'll let you know how the truck goes around the corners.
I'll maximise my. You know, make sure make sure
you get all the apexes. All the apexes with a truck full
of glass. What could possibly go wrong?
What could possibly go wrong? There is a brilliant car museum
in Launceston. So.
If you are in Launceston, I think rather boldly they call themselves the National Motor Museum, I think, but it's right in the city right near the there's some old silos that have been converted into AI. Think a Ridges hotel right on
the river in the city and it's just beside that.
That's nice. Be worth a look if you did.
And they've got a Bunnings nearby, so I can just park there. Completely correct.
Yeah. Next door.
And just park the truck there. Just head on out and be like,
I'm on, I'm on smoker. I'll see you, you know.
Interestingly, they have the green hold Monaro HQLS that was left dangling over the Tasman Bridge after the boat crashed.
Yeah, 75. It's the green 1 isn't it?
Yeah, yeah, that car is in the museum in Tassie.
Oh yeah, that's actually quite scary that that that he survived that guy. He I would have bought a lot of
ticket that same day. Yeah.
Well, The funny thing is if you see where the boat, the car's positioned on the on the bridge, he was like he was in Monaro and not this 4 door because the four door the the driver's door would have not the door is literally so much longer on the Monaro.
Well, I actually had space to actually get it was that it was hanging over the bridge that far that had it been a Ford or things might not have gone quite so well.
Yeah, it got the Monaro. The banana row.
David Prince updates with you. I cycled through.
Most of the cars over the weekend, very frustrating.
Well I won't get out of closing Japan just yet but Saturday was going to be spent doing a few things to cars and it rained all day so got absolutely nothing done and got they called, got a quick chamois off on Sunday morning and that was it.
But you know, I've driven pretty much everything this week.
I'm on the hunt for an RRECRV. If anyone knows of a decent 1
going around for a nephew who's just got his licence and he wants something he can go away on the weekends and go camping and stuff. I reckon one of those be
perfect. So got one lined up to look at
this week. He not not car orientated at all
so he he's asked asked my help we looked he thought he wanted a Kia Rio so we went. I found a Kia Rio one of my
dealerships which was pretty good.
That was the car he got his licence in.
Oh sorry not the car he got his licence in the car he had all his lessons in and two friends had had cars for sale.
One of them was a. 2016 golf automatic.
I said oh mate I don't know about that.
Turned out it was diesel as well only 60,000 KS which isn't good for diesel to to have low KS on a diesel because then you end up with other problems. But the other one was the Pajero
IO. Oh cool.
I thought, OK, that's pretty cool, but that's 22 years old, so, you know, probably not ideal.
And even even he who's not not necessarily orientated said, well, it's a bit ratty and tatty around the edges.
So I said, well, hardly surprising they weren't born, you know, bought to be garage Queens really.
So we'll we'll have a look for CRV.
I I have AI have $1000 cruise you can buy and they.
Can't drive Emmanuel, sadly. Yeah, Cruise is still playing
the Maddie. No mate, you've got no idea.
The amount of messages I've had on in the last week has they'll ask is it available? Can I come and inspect and I go
yeah, what would you like? And then they just don't
respect. Yeah, they go.
I'm just like to. Graze.
Just send it to Graze. I didn't do an insurance shovel
that screw it. Like I had it on auto flip and
he one guy offered 300 bucks and and the fees are 295.
So I was like to so I'd make 5 bucks and they're like, yeah, I'm like, no, I'm not selling for $5.
That's ridiculous. So just.
Rude. Yeah.
And they were like, is there any warning lights?
I'm like, no, they're like, well, that's kind of rare for a cruise. I'm like, are you picking on the
car or are you, or are you like interested in, you know, you know, helping me out here. Yeah, no one's interested to
help you out, Maddie, on the on these sales websites or marketplace. Everyone just said to break
balls. That's pretty much it, breaking
my balls in all different directions.
So you got to start breaking balls in the opposite, you know, like, no, no, that's a mistake. It's not, you know, 1000, it's
10,000. You know, it's, it's missing a
zero. Sorry mate, you can't afford
this car. It's not being really mean.
Well, I mean, that happened to us.
It happened to us years ago. Like my dad and I used this
probably 2000 and one 2002, the early, early years of cars for sale on the Internet in in Melbourne, an establishment on Sydney road had a XJS V12 Jag for 1000 dollars, 999.
And we're like, oh, that's, that's cheap.
That's like, I want to go buy myself a Jag.
So we, we, we drove, we drove down there.
Let's check out the car. Of course, nothing in the
electrical department worked on it because it was a Jag and, and the power windows didn't work and everything, but it ran good, drove good. And I was like, all right,
here's your $1000 to go. I was like, that's a nice
deposit. And we're like, but it says
$1000 online. He's like, no, this is $10,000.
So 9999. And that's like, but look at the
Internet. He's like, oh, we must have made
a mistake. And they pretty much told us to
get lost. So, so that was our, that was
our $1000 buying experience. I think I've been cursed by that
number ever since. But anyway.
Sorry, one more update. I had good old Facebook told me
yesterday that the 1st of December 10 years ago I was in my red scam at Classic Japan, which is exactly what I was doing on the 1st of December this year at Classic Japan in my red scam. So that means I I either need to
get out a bit more or I'm living a fabulous life with fabulous people. So there you go.
And fabulous cars they would print.
Fabulous cars, Yeah, to do that too.
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. I like the I like the the circle
of life sort of thing of that ten years on, it was the same day, the same date and the same car.
That's really cool, so. There you Betty, what updates
with you? Updates with me what I've been
doing. The laser's getting it's gearbox
rebuilt currently, so that's out at the place getting done.
Runners doing a lot for me. Scamp almost done like super
close. So I'm he's been dropping
around. He's like, Yep, it's pretty
good. I'm just tying up a few loose
ends and I should be all good to pick it up and then drop off the MR2. So it'd be winning money out
because because that's going to get the rear main done quite badly. It's it's kind of haemorrhaging
at this point. Does he have kids?
He's got three children he's got.
Put them through schooling, yeah.
Yeah, I've put them through. I'm putting his grandchildren
through schooling too. At the moment he's got he's got
two grandkids, which are Yeah, which?
Which, yeah. Oh, thanks to you.
I've single handedly kept him in business, I reckon, yeah.
I reckon. Just doing God's work, ladies
and gentlemen, so. If not Maddie like the the whole
Janina family definitely has. Yeah, pretty much.
It was like Luca when, you know, the the Forester originally died to get the Reapers. It's serious.
Well, then when my Rexy had, you know, the leaking, what was it?
Camp seals and stuff? Yeah.
A lot of good work's gone. Tenant cars at that workshop.
At that workshop, but you know what he's seen he's, he's always looked after me and, and, and, and yeah and my, and my friends.
So, you know, I can't complain, but also I could complain because that's where my money's going.
But now look, that's, that's been really exciting.
I can't wait to actually to, to drive it over the next few weeks. And I think I might just, I
might try daily for a couple of days and drive to work here and there and, and obviously on, on good weather and, and I probably won't take the freeway because the last time I did, I thought I was going to die. But I will take the, I will take
the back streets. And we're just probably handy at
the moment because the, the traffic in my area is completely cooked. So, so that'll, that'll be good.
I think that's pretty much it on my on my end for cars.
So anyway, Joan on the weekend was the annual Classic Japan event at Bundoora Park held by the Toyota Car Club.
They always do a bang up job. As we mentioned on last week on
the show. They probably they pretty much I
think do the premier Japanese auto shows in the Southern Hemisphere. I think as we discussed David
Prince. I think you're completely
correct. They really do, you know this
well. Super well organised, always a
good event, always a good turn out.
They from, from all accounts, they seem to be a really good car club And, and they and they, they, they really care for all people to come to come visit and, and see and see their cars in this place. So I was in there for the first
bit. I had a few things to catch up
on. But Scotty knew David were
there, Chad was there, Ed was there, Mr Andrew Rewesworth was there, a few of our other friends, Jim Barlow was there.
So a few of our other friends and listeners of the show were, were there, which which is really, really cool.
So I won't talk about the first bit because I wasn't there, but I was there for the second bit. So David Prince and Scotty Doe,
you guys were there from the start.
Tell us a bit about your your day.
What did you guys take and what did you guys see in your favourite cars that you saw there?
All right, so I got there a bit earlier than than David to have a look. When I pulled up, I thought I
don't think they're going to get as many cars.
I thought maybe people have looked at the weather and just thought it was going to be rather bad, but I was very surprised because all of a sudden there was just lines of cars coming through. I was like oh thank goodness.
So I ended up using not just that front part, but they moved cars all the way down to the back part too, so did start to fill up. What did I notice first?
I think the first thing I noticed was a very, very clean red and silver R31 because that one was packing in RV 26 under the bonnet had the five stud conversion, the brakes were all upgraded, and then the interior had the very rare Recaro seats that had the meshy headrest. Nice.
With an R32 steering wheel changed onto it that looked already stitched and brand new, so I'm very impressed with that one. Was it the one with the the the
beautiful silhouette wheels? Not from a silhouette.
They've got silhouette branding on them.
No, this one wasn't. OK, OK.
Although I do know the one you're talking about.
I just want to say that car was lovely and what would have finished that car off and if the owner of the the car was listening. We loved your car, Scott.
You know, we're looking at it for a pretty good five as 5 or 7 minutes. We were going over that car was
that if you could manage to get the yeah, lovely car, if you could manage to get the silhouette trim that you've got in the back select like the the seat, you know, the seat fabric from the back seat to put that in the middle inside of the Recaro is able to tie it in so nicely and look like it would be a factory, a factory tie. And that would that would be
that would be the only thing I would change in that car would be to do that. I think that that car was
brilliant. So interestingly that probably
that you probably could find it because that was an Australian manufactured car, the Silhouette.
So there's the, the a lot of those cars from the, you know, 80s, nineties, 2000s, if they were manufactured locally, the they there, there is availability for the, for the fabric. It's it's with all the imports
that with all the different patterns and different models and stuff they have, you run into problems.
But yeah, if you couldn't find another Silhouette seat, you know, back seat that you could use the parts from, I wouldn't have been. Wouldn't be at all surprised if
with a bit of searching you could find the original trim for it. I was gonna say because the, the
GTSS, they came with shield seats, the name, I'm pretty sure that they had like the shield kind of like buckets on the front. Correct me if I'm wrong, because
like I know, I know we, we had a bit of, we had a bit of a a shield thing in the ABC a lot, lots of them had those type of seats. So yeah, but but yeah, that
would have been really cool with with with that at that time.
But that was a beautiful car. Like the engine Bay was
spectacular. Yeah, I'm with you on that one.
So that was that was a pretty epic.
And there's a really nice clean 240Z as well, still with the L series motor. I only got a picture of the back
of it, so I don't have the picture of the engine Bay but that. Was a lovely car.
With the correct hub caps and everything, yeah.
Yes, I really liked that. Was very original.
So I really like that one. And we've got this little beast
here. There was, I was also the
anniversary of the Prince Skylines.
It was, what'd they say, 60th or something?
60th years, yeah. At the club, I think, yeah.
So that's that was pretty cool and I've I've seen those I've seen a couple of those ones before.
So they had a nice location that Toyota set up for him, which I thought was was really nice to have him there and there in the front part there they looked extremely clean.
Quite a few quite a few glance, actually quite a few glance and legnums, which which surprised me.
I haven't seen that many around. I was when we're walking around.
I was just talking to to chat about them and then all of a sudden, like, because we just saw one of them and then all of a sudden there was like another three of them all partnered with each other. We're like, oh, OK, all of them
together. There wasn't too many skylines
anymore. But mind you, I wasn't, I didn't
really have my eyes looking for them.
You know, I was kind of looking for, I think older cars, things that have just been done up and super clean.
Yeah, there was the Cosmo. Yes, the Cosmo there.
That's always a delight to look at.
They're a pretty car, aren't they?
Oh. What a car.
That was fantastic. You figured how small they are
until you see them in person. Like, like they're, they're
they're. Tiny, yeah.
They are not big, they are a really small little car.
Yeah, they look pretty hard to fit into.
I don't think I'd be able to. 1. They look pretty small.
Talk to a gentleman. I think he had it was AI think
Toyota make it was a king cab. Yeah, I I talked to him too.
Now that's I can't. Remember if it was that one or
something. The silver one with the orange
stripes. Yeah.
Just in front of where the Hondas were.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. It wasn't.
Yeah. Yeah, it was a debt, Yeah.
He was a very nice bloke. Talked to him.
For a while, Chad and I about how he got it and how he put a bit of money into it for roadworthy, actually got it for pretty good price. Yeah, and actually got some seat
covers for it, good canvas seat covers for it.
He actually got from the UK out of everywhere to get something like that. Yeah, from the UK.
So that was very original and clean looking.
So that that was that was a bit of a highlight for me.
Also can't think of anything at the moment, but if it does pop up. We'll, we'll circle back to you,
Scotty. Rob's joining us as well.
How are you, Rob? Good.
Thank you. How are we all?
Good mate. Pretty good.
We're just we're just talking about classic Japan from Sunday the the, the big event that happens once a year, the.
Weather turned out to be quite fine too.
Did it? Perfect.
The Whole day, Yeah. Yeah.
Yeah, awesome. And it wasn't even wet under
foot. That's right.
I couldn't believe it. It drained so well where the
cars were obviously probably down in the dip.
It was probably a little little damper, but it was sort of on a gradual slope most of most of the cars, yeah.
Yeah, I put on my average shoes ready for him to get all kind of gross and stuff. But.
All I ended up getting was actually a little bit sunburnt.
Yeah, I got that too. Yeah, even though I put in
bloodscreen. Sorry, what?
What I found there was so much on I ended up doing nothing because I didn't know what to do.
Too many. Choices.
Too many choices. I go, oh, what do I do?
Just hang around the house and tinker around the house and do just do nothing. Yeah.
Just a bit of gardening here and there and here, yeah, nothing.
But just been servicing cars myself.
Harley's car just got service AB service that was $700.
Is that for the Merc? For the Merc, the C63, it's
probably not too bad. I think Mercedes, we went to
just a Mercedes. Independent.
Yeah, independent mechanic, so out your way sort of.
Yeah, well, Settlement Rd Thomas Town up that way.
Yep. The Peter Lennox.
Yeah, yeah, pretty good guys. They're good.
Or are they? Yeah.
Yeah. And I actually booked in my W112
to Alan Lennoxy and Doncaster because they work on the classics. OK.
So we'll see how he goes in fixing my wiper motor because apparently they've repaired him before.
OK, I'm hoping that it'll get done with rather than me pulling it apart in the garage and having bits and pieces all over the place and then leaving it there for weeks and trying to find a part for it or fix a part or make a part for it.
I just said, you know what, let them have a go at it, that they can tell me how much it's going to cost and I'll say yes or no once I get the the shock cost to fix up the wiper motor.
Yeah, that's pretty much it for cars.
Yeah, a few cars are getting Mustangs due for a service.
So it's that that time of year for me, for me car told me, sorry, my club regulators are being paid up and so all the registrations are going being paid about four cars in in one hit. It's just hurting somewhat.
But there's three of them are club plates and then the Mustang was just normal plates. So yeah, apart from that, yeah,
it's really hitting hard. The registration.
So Harley got his registration for his Ute 1100 and something dollars. Whoa.
For his Amarok. Why so expensive?
Well, apparently there's this new tradie tax on tradies having utes. Oh, really?
Apparently. Wow.
Yeah, so it's pretty steep, I thought.
It's ridiculous. Yeah, absolutely ridiculous.
It's just getting. Another nation and they're
they're penalising the tradies. Where's my fair go?
Everyone's catched up our data sparkies and the plumbers.
If they're buying eighty $100,000 utes, I suppose they are. That's what we're trying, I
think trying to attack is that one's buying the Dodge Rams, F1 Fifties and yeah, you know, the Chevy's.
So they're paying big dollars for registrations on top of their fuel costs and, and the capital outlay on the vehicle.
Yeah, the money. That's pretty much it from our
end. Deb's cars clocked up 40,000 a
Tesla. We already tried to tell her to
trade it in and and upgrade to a BYD or something or a or a cherry or something. She won't be in it.
She's just looking at us dirty like it.
And you're touching my Tesla. It's giving you the, giving you
The Dirty lock. Is she?
Oh, she's shaking her head too, all right.
Yeah, it's like. Don't worry, they're all made in
China. It's the same, we swear.
Same car, same factory. Yeah, they're all made in China,
all right. Same battery, sort of system,
identical. It's all right.
You'll be right. Yeah.
You'll get you something nice new.
I love it. That's pretty much it with on
the car front. That's good mate, that's good.
David Prince, your your take. Yeah, well, I, I mopped around,
was a bit cranky on Saturday thinking that, you know, I don't have time for it to rain. It'd be terrible because I have
severe parking issues in my place at the moment anyway.
But yeah, Sunday morning we we had a pre meet up at Macca's in Heidelberg. We've had about 15 of our
members and a few interlopers came along in cars other than Hondas, which was was fine because they're I I say they're between Hondas. Most of them but or couldn't or
their Hondas were too new to bring.
But Mr Bunting bought the Tarago.
Mr Ruelsworth is also a Honda Car Club member because they have an HIV and he he bought Mardi, the beautiful TP Elite waggon and another friend, Rowan Cornelius bought his very lovely original 86, I think it is Mitsubishi Nimbus.
So we they had those three cars were lined up together as part of our group between them, twenty seats actually.
So you could have, they could have bought 2020 extra people had they filled them to capacity.
But it was I, I thought it was another great show.
They, they've got a bit better with actually arranging cars.
So we were with a whole lot of other Hondas that weren't necessarily car with our car club.
But I mean, that way you sort of, they do group the cars a bit better now, I think. Yeah, some of the things that
stood out to me, aside from the beautiful Hondas, were there was a very original 77240 K still with the original steel rims on it, sort of an orange one. And it had the, it, it looked
like it had been through the, you know, any, any of the dealerships in the 70s who put the protection moulds along the side. It had the, the accessory mud
flaps and the Louvre on the back window.
That was manual. That just brought back so many
memories, seeing that that was a a really good find and.
Well, what's that brand, David? Is it Onga Onga Onga?
Yeah, Onga, Onga. Yeah, the Onga Louvre on the
back window, but it was funny, you know, so many cars that had that, that sort of thick black or thick, it's probably probably a centimetre and a half long, like a thick black protection mould just run along the side of the car to so you didn't get bumped or your door didn't get bumped immediately.
Ruins the lines of a 240K which has got such nice swage lines on the side. But it was, it was all very
period, but it was the original steel wheels that got me out.
It's been so long since I've I've seen plenty of them at shows and stuff, but they've all been customised and modified and just seeing one as it was, was, was pretty cool.
There was a really lovely charade turbo and you just saw that too. Had never seen that at A at a
show before, but it had the correct alloys.
And so that was about a about an 84 or 85, I think as well.
So that was the thing that it was interesting how, pardon me, how many, obviously a 25 year old car now has anything up to 99. So there were lots of 90s cars
and lots of 80s cars. I took the the Scamp and as
previously mentioned, Jim Barlow, who actually lives at Phillip Island. So very graciously left home
about 5:20 to actually be at my place in time to pick up the Reddit cord, the the half mil 1/2 a million KA cord and bring that along. So that was that was good.
We had that on display. I had the red scamp.
The scamp was probably one of the oldest cars there, I'd say.
Yeah, the print skylines were probably older.
Yeah, they would have been 646566 and a couple of and the Cosmo was probably, I'm not sure which model because there were two Cosmos. There was an earlier model of my
later one, David Days is a 70 model, so it's the same age as the scam, but yeah, so it was pretty, there's sort of not many 50 plus year old cars there, so. Yeah.
Just a quick question, David and Rob, did they sell Princess here in Australia? Like like, were they?
Were they? Yes.
OK, because like I I was, I was, I was always told that they did.
But then some people are like, Nah, I didn't sell anything that old here. I'm like, I'm sure I've heard
that they were. Yeah, they definitely did.
I think, I think it's uncle in Canberra actually had one new and and rallied it quite successfully.
He was quite a quite a rally driver.
But of course Nissan bought them out in.
They also saw Glorious here too. I remember there were a couple
of Glorious around where I lived growing up and then they sold, I think, I think the late 60s they sold out to Datsun as all Nissan Datsun as we knew it. And as I'm sure everyone
listening to the show will know, that's why Skyline still have the round tail lights to this to today, because the the Prince Skyline had the had them and it's an Omahash to the sort of the history of the of the the name, which I think is pretty cool. Even it is far down the line to
have those. So now that I was actually
talking to Ash Minikin, the president of of Toyota, they, I said, you know, commented of course on the weather and how lucky they were. He said we actually, they
actually had, I think it was Wednesday or Thursday last week had a, we had a lot of rain too. And that was sort of the start
of it. And then with the rain on
Saturday, on Friday, they did actually have an alternate location lined up. So they were, they were within
hours of of actually like and they had a window to call it basically. But imagine trying to move that,
you know, on the day before you sort of get there.
That would have been an absolute nightmare.
So did they. Disclose where that might have
been. Yeah, they did.
But I don't think it's important.
Everybody knows, right? Yeah, but but yeah, I think they
were. They made the right call and
really good communication too, because I don't know if any of you guys saw on on Saturday afternoon, the director, Donna, who's one of their members and she did a live Facebook post, you know, and at from the from the location, you know, and explained, you know what, that it was in good condition still and you know, it was definitely on there and it meant, you know, don't be put off by the weather forecast.
There was range forecast for Sunday still on Saturday, but luckily we didn't get it. I think I actually got a few
drops as I pulled into the driveway when I came home.
So but yeah, a really, really good day.
And I, I, I thought that we had a number of new members bring bring along cars that haven't been before.
We had our first CRV on club plates there and so we could utilise the picnic table. So it was the probably the only
car there with its own picnic table so.
Yeah, well, it's funny. It's funny.
Was it, was it you, you and me, Scotty?
Or was it mean? It was the channel?
I I think we'll, we'll, we both freaked out.
We're like, how are they on club plates in the LA?
It's it's. Yeah.
Yeah, we, we, we just said they're looking like we're like what? Nobody feeling old?
Like I I I can't imagine what you guys just feel like.
I remember it's it's when cars that I remember when they were new going on club plays it, it feels it feels weird, man.
It feels so weird and, and I think I'm Speaking of Speaking of you, Scotty, like the yeah, my, my lasers, you know, will be on club plates and start at 2026.
You know, like it, it's it's a Feb build, so Feb 2026.
So I, I remember when, when they were our neighbour bought 1 brand new because he worked at Ford.
Like it's just, you know, I was a kid, but I was like, oh, you're so cool. And then I was like fire.
That's 25 years. Where's my life called?
But anyway. But anyway, moving on.
So your favourite car of the day, David Prince?
What would that be? Oh actually another cool thing
that I I really liked was Daniel Aldridge from Rupert Rex on his at his stall. He's had a 660 cappuccino done
up like a Dodge Viper. Yeah, that was cool.
The the the red one with the white oh.
Yes, yes. And the plate was 660 VPR, so
that, that, that was pretty cool.
I did like that. Oh, best car, favourite car?
Yeah. Well, it would almost be the
that Datsun King Cam because I love the story about it.
And that was the first time that guy had ever come to anything like that. And he said, look through COVID.
He said, I I'd never been very mechanical, but he said, I started watching YouTube videos on fixing up lawn mowers and, and whipper snippers and stuff and thought, oh, that's not that hard. So he just sort of got all his
mechanical training from YouTube and he wasn't a young guy, you know, he was probably similar age to me and then thought, well, what can I buy? That's, you know, just so
analogue and, and will probably be theoretically easy to to fix and maintain as well. And that's what he found.
And yeah, to bring it along to the event was great.
And even John from John from highball, one of the guys who runs highball, I was talking to this guy with John and the guy saying, Oh, I love that, you know, I love the decals, you know, that you put on it. And he said, no, no, they're
original. They've been on it from new, you
know, and you could actually see that they're a bit scratched and, you know, a bit was marked on the on the decal.
So that was exactly as he bought it off the farm up.
He hoped he said it was that's cool.
That was pretty cool. I like that.
But as I've said before, and I'll keep saying to as many car people as I can, the very cool thing about classic Japan is that it it's all ages and it's it's not just a unobtainable sort of, you know, and like we should compare the two, of course, because it's a different audience.
But like something like motors and masterpieces, you go and you see the McLaren long tail or whatever it is.
I should know what's it called? McLaren something tail.
McLaren F1. JDR.
Yeah, I know there was, there was a one of one, I think it was called Long Tail, actually. Anyway, you know, I mean,
they're great to walk around, have a look at.
But the good thing about classic Japan is that there are 18 year old kids who have bought their first car.
And it's something from the 90s that they've, you know, they remember as a small kid, you know, who was in the family.
That's how Andrew Rublesworth got in into the car scene, you know, and it just crosses all age groups and all, all, all groups. And there's no pretension and
there's no sort of snobbery about it or, you know, oh, you can't really have that car because that's, you know, not such and such. It's, it's just great.
I love the originality of some cars.
I love some of the really wacko modified ones.
And yeah, it's, it's a really great, great feeling sort of community be a part of. It is, yeah, it definitely is.
It's actually, it's one of my favourite events to go to, to be honest with you. Like I feel comfortable going
going to those events, you know, Like it's, you're right.
There's no, there's no pretentious people.
There's no, ohh, you know, like I remember when, when we saw Andrew Wigglesworth's beige Magna there the first time, you, you, David and I, sorry, David and, and Edward and myself were just stood there like, holy crap, it's a Magna.
It was parked next to like a Ferrari or something and, and everyone was crying around the, the Magna and, but some, but somewhat like, but a few people were saying, oh, a couple of a mag, a bloody Magnus here. But I'm like, like, that's,
that's what it should be all about.
Like it's, it's, it's kind of cool, you know, it's, it's interesting, it's weird, it's different.
So you know, it's, it's just, it's just those, it's those things that you that you get, you know, and, and the cars you see are classic Japan are, you know, everything, you know, you know, from completely Ruddy cars to to cementers like original, original cars. So.
I don't know if you noticed the Mazda car club lineup and they had there were probably oh, a dozen or 15 rear wheel drive Mazda 6 two sixes. Sixes.
Yeah, yeah. Which were really pretty, you
know, pretty 80s design or 70s actually, you know, late 70s.
So the rear wheel drive the original 62 Sixers, very Euro inspired at the time. They were really when they came
out, they were like, wow, that's a really stylish car.
And they they were advertised as being a European design and all that sort of thing and still still look great today.
But there was everything you could imagine.
There were the bone stock original ones right through to the fully dwarfed, you know, wheels outside the guards, you name it. So that's the thing.
That's the great thing. Just in that little selection of
cars, there was like the whole gamut of what it's all about, you know, really enjoyable. Yeah, no, it did.
I completely agree with you. It's a fun event and, and all
the stores are there like I've I've kind of been pumped up to buy a Game Boy Speedo for my MR2 because.
Yeah. One, because the speedo's out,
it's out 10 kilometres under 100 and over 100.
It's it's about out almost 20 kilometres per hour.
So I'm sitting at 120, but I'm actually doing 100 KS an hour.
So I want to, I want to buy one of those just to put up my dash, it says. That's a cool.
Cool little gift to myself. But yeah, I, I really liked a
lot of the cars there. I I had to pick, I had to pick
one of my favourites there, to be honest with you.
But I think there was there was two really old Corollas there.
They're both in yellow, the the four door and the coupe and they they both looked stunning and like they like especially the Fordo. The Fordo was really clean, like
a really nice car, real good restoration.
If it was, and I think I, I mentioned it to you, Scotty, I'm like, this is my mom's first car.
Like that's what she had. That was her first car and.
Yes, yes, I do remember, yeah. And your first car, too.
David Prince. Yeah, There you go.
And two. Yeah, two.
Yeah. Then 81 five speed CS. 5 speed
David Prince So I I took, so I took a few photos of those because I thought they were pretty cool.
And I'd say I didn't say a really good one, like because they're all either modified or which is fine or, or they're all, you know, just clapped out and rusty and but they still go being a bigger Toyota. So yeah, a big fan of was a big
fan of those two. Interesting to see NSVX there as
being a manual converted SVX. That was pretty cool.
Yeah. Because as we know, they're all
automatic. Yeah, forgot about that one.
That one was really good. Yeah, of course.
And, but, but my, my favourite car there was probably because it was the biggest kind of middle finger to, to Toyota as a company was the whole in a Polo, which, which was actually looked, it was really tidy. It was, it had fog lights on it.
And I thought, I thought that was pretty cool.
Besides, obviously, like, you know, seeing the Nimbus and, and, and some of the other stuff that was brought along that that car was that car was pretty cool.
It was the first time I've seen a Holden in a you know, I I wanted, I want to see next year someone bring a in a Polo, someone bring an A Holden Nova and like A and like a Ford, a Ford Maverick and Toyota Lexan. We had a Lexan last year or the
year before, I think. Yeah.
So like you get all the all the was it the button playing cars like get to get them all, get them all lined up That that would be that would be a lot of fun.
That would be pretty funny. They're.
Australians, so they they can't really be there, can they?
Based on a Japanese car. So which is which is funny.
And then, you know, they they, it was accepted.
So I had to laugh at those. I thought they were.
I thought that was pretty cool. Scotty, your fight if you had to
pick one. Oh, that's tough.
I'll go the Fox Body Mustang in the car park.
That was actually very cool. Yeah, that was pretty funny to
see. Yeah, there was a Fox Body
Mustang in the car park that had been converted to right hand drive as well. So as I was saying, you said,
I'm like, because I had a look at that car as I walked in and I'm like, like this must have been a car that was brought in early, like in the early 90s, converted over because like they wouldn't convert them these days.
So I'd say that's been in the in the land of Australia for a very, very long time. Was it a 50?
Yeah, nice one. Yeah, yeah.
Yeah, it was Vanilla Ice, except it was in black and wasn't a convertible. Yeah.
So that was pretty cool to say, but actually within something that was rare and kind of special and fairly cute is probably the Honda today. Yeah.
Something that I had seen before I didn't even know existed.
Yeah. To see something like that and
the story behind it as well on how he got it and things like that was pretty awesome to hear. So yeah.
Yeah. But I think it's it's more than
just the car. It's.
I like hearing the little stories and the little things that they did behind it. Find the actual car.
Quite a story it's. Got quite a story.
It's and the character behind the story is that too?
Yeah. So today for people who don't
know what 100 today is, they immediately think of the 50CC scooter which was called the Honda today.
But in the 80s they actually one of their K cars, one of their small smaller cars, local cars in Japan was called the Today and it was a 550. So it was the interim sort of K
arrangement post 360 CCS and 3660 CCS.
It runs a three cylinder 550. This one is full automatic too.
And I've actually drove it on Saturday in the rain.
Scary in itself, but it's it drove great.
And they're really low geared. So that low gear to high geared.
When you accelerate, they scoot off.
You know, they surprise you with the way they take off once they change in second, of course, dies a bit exciting and not a quite fast car, but in Tokyo you just want to be able to, you know, get going quickly and move into traffic and things like that. So that's why they're like that.
But but yeah, that was pretty cool.
Yeah, that car was kind of like an illegal alien entering the country and then getting its green card is what that is, is what that car was. So a bit of a story behind.
Well, I think David Day on the show wants to actually tell us, tell us about that car. That's a good.
Idea. Because because that was Bill
was pretty cool. Did you want to talk about
Jaguar or what do you think? Oh yes, sorry, yeah, wash my
mouth out with soaped Scotty Doe Ronson.
Yes, let's let's talk about Jag. They've they've, they've shown
off their new concept car. Your thoughts, gentlemen?
Rob's just looking your way. It ain't a Jaguar, that's all I
can say. It's.
Definitely a concept car that I think someone quickly made in some very cheap programme of some sort.
I don't know, it's it just looks like all those kind of concepts people making throw on. They hit a deadline.
They like chap GPT like quickly. I need a car that'll, you know,
get people talking and get us, you know, hated.
So, you know, and it's a prompt and this is what it, you know, spat out, I guess. Look, it's either that or it's
actually a kid in about grade 5 drew it.
I reckon that's that's another possibility because it's.
I was just looking at it like, yeah, I drew cards like this sometimes. Yeah, I mean, I still draw cards
like this sometimes. But I also don't expect this
album. Yeah.
I don't know what Jaguar is doing, to be honest with you.
I think they're yeah. I don't know.
I don't know. They're yeah, they're either
shooting themselves in the foot or this is like a really funny long winded troll that they're just trying to do.
You know those things they use for when you do paint a sample and they've got the little thing and basically I'll just take a picture of that and add some meals to it.
It'll be fine. Now we'll notice.
Mate, OK, and I'm going to try and defend it here.
I don't like, I think if that if that had the badge of like a rolls or something, it we'd be like, Oh yeah, cool.
You know, but the fact that it's a Jag, I think it's going to cop a lot of backlash because if it was a Ross, because, you know, it's got that that that strong front end that, you know, it's got lots of presence and that that low roof line.
But you're right. I think that's just like
something been AI generated in the last week then and they're like, yeah, this is what we're doing.
I I don't know what to Yeah, it's.
Even the photos of like the interior on thedrive.com dot AU.
Yeah, it's like stuff you'd find in like San Francisco tech startup office. It's not a car.
It's it's something, you know, you just do like a little bit of sand Stony stuff there. And they're like, oh, yes, you
know, it was made by small children off the coast of Africa and this and that. They tell you a little story
behind it that's like, this isn't a car.
I don't know what it is, but it's not a car.
It actually looks like a. Futuristic art kind of thing.
Your futuristic decor house, you'd have that kind of picture up there. Yeah.
Yeah, yeah. It's, it's like, I don't know
if, if it kind of reminds us. It's like a bit, it's kind of
Orwellian in a way, isn't it really?
It's a bit, it's a bit. It's just a bit weird.
It's it's Scotty. I won't say a a picture in the
house. It's a picture that a house
staging company has. Yes, because it's so it's so
impersonal, right? It's like, yeah, it's, there's
no, there's no, there's, there's no, there's no soul behind it.
So the interesting just reading the article on the thumb drive, it says the rump. I've never you don't often hear
of a car and being described as having a rump, but a rump it has. The rump also features a slatted
panel somewhat reminiscent of a rear window Louvre your grandfather might have had on his Ford Falcon in the 1990s.
Matchbox car that they brought out back in the late 60s, early 70s. There was one particular car
that looked similar to that, I think.
The roof. The actual door.
Yeah. Sort of like that OK it.
It kind of, you know it also it kind of looks like Cruella Deville's car, but you know, just just more flat, you know it and and with no accents on it. Yeah, yeah.
Look, I could see this car turning into a transformer.
At least. That's, I guess a positive thing
you can say about it. I would not be surprised.
If like or. A Decepticon.
Definitely Decepticon. I would not be surprised if like
the car just stood up and did the thing and you.
Know made the yeah. Made the sounds so I guess
that's a positive if if that is 1.
Yeah, I but it's like it doesn't have it doesn't even have a face, you know, it's just kind of, it just looks so it it looks just, it looks generic, you know, like it quite really looks like a car you would have drawn in in primary school, you know, with a ruler, because it's, I don't think there's barely a curve on it, which is fine. Like I'm more for boxy design.
But yeah, I don't know, man. Like, like what are they?
All right, so I want to ask you the question guys, what are they doing? Are they trying to rebrand or
are they or are like a full rebrand like they're or, or are they just doing doing this just to get people talking about Jag again? Because let's be honest, no
one's talking about Jag unless you're like a, a rich old white man. So yeah.
Well, it's certainly got people talking, that's that's for sure.
That's undeniable. Well, from what I from what I
saw, it had it had it's that that promotional video where not a not a single car was shown had so many millions of views in the because it was trending because of because of how bad I was.
So that's I guess that's one way to get publicity.
And they say no, no, no publicity is bad publicity, right? So I don't know.
I don't know the. Funny thing is, go on David.
Oh, sorry, I was just going to say the article also says that they're going to be sold exclusively through brand stores. So and the first one is to open
in Paris in the fashion district.
So maybe that's a niche sort of thing.
Maybe. And and look, a lot of people
have talked about that. I was talking to someone just
recently about electric cars, how that they're, the whole concept of them for a lot of younger people is like their phone, you know, like it's something that's not going to last. You know, when it when it wears
out, they'll just get another one.
You know, it's a disposable sort of thing.
So maybe, I don't know, although the money they're going to be asking for, the people would hope that they weren't going to be too disposable. That's the one.
Yeah, it kind of reminds me. It kind of reminds me of the of
this GIF of this video from The Simpsons when when Duff Beer rebranded and 30 minutes later going out of business.
That's when they they had the alcohol ban and they had to re rent the alcohol free Duff didn't they?
Yeah, that's that's the one. Yeah.
So they that that's kind of what it reminds you of.
Like people aren't drinking it for the alcohol, they're drinking it for the tea. Tasty.
Business. I don't know, man, I don't know.
I don't know what to say. It's.
They're all getting desperate. All the car companies I hear
that even Volkswagen, BMW, Mercedes aren't doing too well.
No. So.
Like, yeah. I mean, I'll be fact checked or
what's that? What's that website that cheques
like? It's like a like a fact checking
website something. If you're a politician, it'd be
the ABC fat checker. No, it's not that one.
It's I have to find out what it's called, but like I'll be the first one to say, oh, you know, all cars are cheap.
They all look the same. They do this is this is crazy.
This is but this is but this is like on the other scale of like, you know, it's like what Kiera doing with the Tasman.
So I don't know if if this is if this is the new look, because if it is sure what you know, one at least is better than the same blobs of of stuff we've had for the last, you know, so many years. But yeah, don't know, gentlemen.
Scotty, your take. You think, You think they're
gone, loony. Look, I, I guess they have to do
something, don't they? They can't keep doing what
they're doing because they're just going down and down and down. Yep.
So you got to try something. That's what Nissan need to do
right now. Yeah.
I don't really want a car, I want something that flies to meet my destinations. Cars I want to be teleported or
something. You know, like something totally
different. 100%. I guess what what is the next?
The next step of what cars are going to look like.
The thing is, Toyota are already toying with that, aren't they?
I mean, they're, they're a, what do they call them?
A, They're not an automotive company.
They want to be a company that moves people.
So they're getting into air taxis and all sorts of things that they're they're sort of looking into in how they get people from A to B in the most efficient way.
I mean, they could just build buses.
You could. Wait.
Yeah, they're more efficient. I'm just saying.
Not that I would take public transport.
Screw that. Trains.
Trains are pretty good. Yeah, yeah, they can build
trains. Yeah.
They just need to make a teleportation device or something. Yeah, but then you get into the
weird aspects of teleportation. It's like, so is the person that
comes out on the other end of that that teleportation the same person? Or has the original person like
disintegrated, died and then a new person has been built for the same memories? Or if you go in that teleportion
device with a family, you're gonna come out as.
Yeah, like this is the half fly half.
Yeah, half fly, half, you know. See guys, these are the real
questions we asked you and. Jackie has got a lot to answer
for if the podcast is going down this way.
Is it? Yeah, do they need the those
high velocity vacuum tubes like in Futurama?
We just definitely get sad. Yeah, it's a good idea, but.
Again, like the state government might have to fix the roads.
The roads are crap as they are. So if you start flying or you
know, vacuum tubes and stuff like that, they might have to worry about infrastructure anymore.
Yeah, yeah. I mean, they don't anyway
though. Really, it's true.
You can't say. Like, Oh yeah, they don't need
to build roads anymore. They'll save money and they'll
look at you and go, we don't do that anyway.
Anyway. The way you got to sell it is.
Your owner roads. Yes, the way you got to sell it
is you can tax this as well. That's how you get government
investment. Yes, tax.
I'll have like special tubes that you zip through that are like your your tunnels and things like that.
Yes, Speaker tunnels didn't feel enough.
Build tunnels underneath LA and now that they laughed at him, but now they're going that tunnel's network's worth billions of dollars that he's. So maybe tunnels are the way to
go. The tunnels are pretty smart
it's just I think the idea of driving Tesla's but in the tunnels is pretty dumb. You could just use a subway
system that the expensive parts are tunnel and if you get that going for cheaper which I believe has technology claims that can do, we can D tunnels a lot cheaper and more effectively. I'm just making good subway
systems is pretty awesome. What about magnetic railways?
That's pretty cool. Well, Maglev.
You can go pretty fast. Maybe we'll we'll do that.
That can be our next business venture.
Yeah, Maglev Melbourne to Sydney.
Yeah, 500 KS an hour. Pardon pending on that, guys.
Pardon pending on that, yeah. Yeah, yeah.
Yes. Make sure you cover that here
if. If you let Daniel do the rodent
belt project with China, we might have had one already.
Yes, true. All it would have costed us is
renting another port to them. And I'm like, I don't care.
You're in the country, you're already out of the port, who cares? No, nine years.
I'm going to be alive then. That's Next Generation's
problem. Yeah, give us the the high speed
rail for now. Yeah, come and build it for us.
And they'll build it in five years, not 50.
Yeah, they'll build it in like 5 days.
What do you mean five years? They'll, they'll, they'll have
everyone here doing it. Yeah.
Have you seen, have you seen them put up, like put up bridges and stuff? Like, like they do it almost
overnight, Like they've got a bazillion people working on it and get it and they get it done. I was like.
Those those are also the ones that are a little more simple to falling. So I'll take the five year
project. I'll take efficiency.
I'll take efficiency. It's yeah.
Get rid of unions. Yeah, right.
You get stuff done with no unions.
Isn't that right, Rob? You're you mate.
How dare you. All right, I'm going to start.
A union at work. Yeah, the unions are Australia.
You take that back. 80s just overrated.
Yeah. All right, guys, time for the
quiz. You know the quiz.
You know how it is, guys. 410 questions plus the bonus
questions. Let's crack on question 1, John.
Google has hired what form of transport to record its Street View in the deserts. So what have they hired?
What form of transport have they hired to record Street View?
So you know, you get your Street View in your in your thing in the desert. Oh, I have a guest, David
Helicopters. David Helicopters is incorrect.
Alum. Alum.
Are you saying deserts? Eh, yeah, it's going to be
camels, isn't it? Camels have hired camels.
Yeah, I I saw the sub that this this is.
The camera. The camel's home.
Well, literally, I'm tired. You can see like the camel's
shadows and stuff. That's brilliant.
Looking for works. It works right.
Absolutely. I completely agree.
Question 2. Toyota this week told the press
that the Toyota Supra will be ending production after five years. They will be releasing a limited
edition model. What will it be called?
David. David.
The Track Edition. Incorrect.
Alan. Alan.
Would it be the final edition? Final Edition is absolutely
correct. I'm well done.
This is the same or similar question to the I think it was the EVO 10 and I'm like would it be the final edition?
Was. 2 wasn't I said the same. We're not getting it in
Australia but we're getting like a toned down version of it but more more track focused version. Question 3 The new Porsche taken
Turbo GT which is even faster than the turbo which is ridiculous. Was tested by America's Car and
Driver magazine recently and it cracked a zero to 60 time record as zero to 60 miles an hour record.
What time did it do? I'll give passes to Ellen. 1.8
seconds. 1.8 says Ellen. We're.
We're excluding that one foot roll out.
Whatever. Yeah.
Yeah, you know, it's just, it's just like from, from a dig.
Yeah, the scam anyway 1.8. Scotty Scott.
Scott, I'm going to say 1.68. 1.68.
Rob 1.9. Rob 1.9.
David, I'll go to 2.1. 2.1 The answer is 1.89 seconds, so Rob
gets the chocolates there. It is also the fastest car
they've ever tested, which is insane.
Like factory car that they were. Well, wasn't the Model S played
first to be 1.9? So they're just speaking it
right. It's it's by being the biobees
result which is crazy. I was a bit too ambitious of the
1.8. Question #4 which state has
introduced a higher power licence album?
That was Scott I got. I heard Scott got in there.
He. Didn't open my mouth.
Oh, didn't. OK, well I heard.
Oh no, it was wrong. I could take it, but I won't
that. Was South Australia.
It was SA, yes, that's it. Knew what the answer was, but I
didn't open my. Yeah.
I, I, I felt Rob ahead of me. I'm like, oh, you know, I won't
say anything if I get it. But I wasn't expecting Scotty to
be picked up, to be honest. No.
I I had an odd and I'm like, I'm like, oh, that's either Scotty or Rob, but I'm like, I'm pretty sure it was Scotty and it was.
My laptop but just the Internet connection slow.
Yeah, the connection slow bonus question.
Might be on nice. Bonus question, how much power
does the car need to have for this to take effect?
So how much power does your car need to have power?
Kilowatts per tonne. I'll give closest two kilowatts
per tonne for you to need to have this this open or sorry, this Category U licence I think it's called.
Rob. Rob.
I'd say 385 kilowatts per tonne. 385 per tonne, Yep.
I'm going to say 290. 290, says Scotty.
Adam's wedding. Yeah.
No, I've got an idea. I will say, because I was
reading up on this, is there a progress question of it's what kind of what class of licence it'll be?
No. OK.
So it's AU class licence I believe.
It is AU class. Licence, I think it's somewhere
in the neighbourhood of 280 per tonne.
Will be my 2. 80 per tonne, Yep. And David?
I'll go 275. 275 David is closest.
It's 276. I don't even pass it, David.
That is tosh. That is a specific #276.
To be exact, that's a. Yeah, yeah.
Wow. Now we've got a BBQ question
here. Bonus, bonus question.
What was the first card to be fined for this new David?
It was a Lamborghini it. Was a Lamborghini correct?
It came into effect on the 1st of December and it that Lamborghini been fine for it already.
Question #5 Jaguar revealed its new car concept which we all just looked at and and had a good giggle out.
What is it called? No, it's all named.
Binary David, David David David. It's the type 00.
Type 00 is correct David, well done.
Type series non binary. Should we call it Jaguar
disappointment? Oh, question number six.
Which Australian university breakthrough has seen a household ointment help break the 1000 kilometre EV range?
So which? Which household ointment?
Rob. Eucalyptic Soil.
Incorrect. Which ointment which most people
have in their household. They've studies have proved that
it can help batteries get over to 1000 kilometres per range.
Alum, alum, what do you do? It's a Vaseline.
Not Vaseline. What do you do with the
ointment? That's what I'm wondering.
Are we greasing up the unions? Are we?
It's it was, it was, it was all over the years.
It was pretty cool and I laughed when I saw it.
I'm like, of course it was. But anyway, so we still got
Scotty and David to play do. You see, grease up the tyres
with the appointment and then you know this.
Less rolling resistance and God bless you if you need to stop I guess. Dave, Dave, I'll take a guess
because it's used from all sorts of skewer things.
Hemorrhoid cream. Hemorrhoid cream is not correct,
but I would love to have. I thought you were about all.
Sorts of things, David. I would think it's one
particular thing to use for Oh. It's meant to be good for zinz
things too, and I've never. Been if you can say.
So. You said household, yeah, not
garage. Correct household is a household
ointment that you put on your body.
An ointment. I'm going to say the the VIX
vapour rub. Well, that's a good guess.
It's Betadine. Betadine This.
Oh, really? Betadine.
Yeah. What are you doing?
I still don't know, like I was reading it.
I'm like this makes no sense to me so I just moved.
On you drink it and it makes you feel like you're flying, you know, you just don't even worry about I I need a better explanation. I'm sorry.
That's just ridiculous. Betadine, there you are.
That's the answer though. So just put it on your on your
EV, put it putting your Tesla on and you'll get a you'll get 1000 KS per per per charge. Question #7 What was the colour
scheme for the Reebok Pulsar? David.
David. They're all white.
That is correct. That's .5.
And I think they had blue interiors.
They had blue, correct? Yeah, I'll pay that question #8
The Sentra is made by which company?
Made it. Scotty got in there first from
my end. Nissan.
Nissan is correct. Nissan that was, I think.
It's correct. I think you'll find that words
pronounced Nissan. Yeah, need for.
Speed question, right? There Nissan Sentra SER with ASR
20 because we all know they pull a premium one week before race wars. Question 9.
Which car has its own ultimate resort in Italy and it isn't an Italian car? Ultimate Resort.
So like a resort where you can go drive the cars.
They've got fifty of them there, but.
It's not an Italian car and. It's not an Italian car, no.
David, I have a guess. Is it Porsche?
Incorrect. They're very famous.
Very famous sports car, put it that way.
I'll give you a hint. It's a sports car.
Well, good question. Rob, Rob, is it British?
It isn't British, no. Hey, no asking extra questions.
There you go guys. Now it's a bit easier, so it
must be a German car it. Could be or couldn't be.
I'm not, so I. Reckon it would be so you've
only got two other probably brands that would probably fit that mould. Scott.
Scott. I didn't say BMW.
BMW is incorrect. No, not well.
I'll go to Mercedes Benz. It's not Mercedes Benz, it is
called Miata Land MX5. What?
You said it's a luxury. It's.
A real It's a real place, Miata land.
He's got all these edition MX Fives and he lets people drive them. They come, you come over and you
stay. You stay at his resort and you
drive MX Fives. OK.
So I think, I think my understanding of this question was more that like the car company has a result there that you like, you know, assume you're a valued customer, you'd go there to experience the car. This is a little different.
Well, I'm sorry that I. Didn't.
No, that's OK. It's still interesting trivia.
So yeah, it's, it's called Miata Land.
Look it up. Miata Land, which is in Italy
and it's. A little bit of the Silvio pass
in it or something. I don't have to, right?
Surely, but basically very cool, very cool.
He's got all different limited editions and sorts of stuff and that you can just pick what you want.
You're like, I want to drop the ND fastback, you know, like ND retractable fastback today. Sure, no worries.
That's the one you can take out. But yeah, big fan of of them.
Last question is a brochure question, so I'm going to read the brochure to you. It's an Australian brochure.
Which Turbo Coupe is more practical for going to the mall?
A difficult decision. Both are beautiful, Both have
high performance turbocharged engines.
It's admitted that the Blank's really zippy multi valve 1.5
engine is a wee bit smaller than the Porsche Turbo's 3.3.
On the plus side, the Blank Turbo uses less fuel per hundred KS than almost any other car on the road.
Porsche can move from zero to 100 in in an astonishing 5 seconds, whilst the whilst the Blank manages a respectable 9.2.
But with speed cameras, who needs 5 seconds?
Rob. Saab.
Incorrect. Good guess, though.
I like that one. Rob.
Where the blank? David, David, I'll.
Start ET Turbo. Incorrect.
Good guess where the blank really shines is when you're off to the mall with the mob. Because the blank is a genuine 5
seater and it's got much more boot space than your average hatchback. Comes with a full three year
100,000 K warranty but best of all for around $24,000 it's about $228,000 cheaper than the Porsche.
See your blank dealer today and find out what turbo style, safety and economy feels like. Not to mention exhilaration and
sex appeal. What Car am I guys?
Is it a Volkswagen Golf? Incorrect.
No. I know, I think I know what it
is, but I guess. Alum.
The only turbo coupe I'm thinking of.
I don't know if we sold it. Civic turbo coupes here.
We did it. Sorry.
It's not that still. You came to FK 8.
Yeah, yeah, I got nothing. No.
David, you know, what were you going to say?
Is it the Ford laser turbo? It isn't the Ford Laser turbo,
it's the Hyundai S Coupe turbo. What scoop turbo?
Yeah, that's the. 5 seater. Good luck with that.
That's the ad. Wow, there.
You go which turbo is. Australian ad or is that?
That's an, that's an Adm Australian ad and it's an absolute Australian ad. Wow.
There you go, gentlemen. So that's the car quiz score
Check. Scotty 1 alum and Robin 2.
And tonight's win on 4 is David Prince.
Well done. Thank you very much.
Well done. I think that's a pod.
I think that's a podcast. Yep, Yep.
Yep, some plugs please. We'll start with Scotty's golf
tip of the week. Off tip of the week for this
week is don't be one of those people that if your club's not working for you, you think you need to replace it and get a new one. That's usually not the case.
You don't need the most brand new newest club ever.
If you're starting out, don't go and buy a brand new set.
Go second hand, practise how to use them.
Don't need to upgrade immediately so you don't need the brand newest spankiest ones out there.
I I ideally buy a set from somebody who's got a very bitter wife and she's selling the set because you'll probably get a bargain whereas you buy from. The guy that plays it.
You won't get a good deal. Yeah, you got to get someone
that's just upgraded their clubs because they'll be like, oh these ones are rubbish, can't hit with.
The rum and you've got to get them fitted, Scotty, they have to fit you. You have to be the right size.
And how do you know which size to get unless you buy new?
Well. When you're just starting out, I
wouldn't even worry about getting them fitted and things like that unless you're moving into wanting to play a lot more often. So if you've joined a Golf Club
and you're playing pretty much every single weekend and stuff, then yeah, I'll be looking at getting them fitted and that will start to drop your score and things like that.
But if you're just playing it for fun and stuff like that, wouldn't even bother. You know when you suggested join
the the Golf Club, that was the sticker that the LS Golf had on the back window when they first were released in 76?
Oh, was that that wrong? Join the Join the Golf Club
across the back of the window. Well, that's a good gossip of
the week. So just quickly, because I want
to know this, so they're actually using the Betadine in the chemistry of the battery. Those are like pouring it on
somewhere. They're making the batteries
with the Betadine as one of the ingredients and that's what is giving them, I guess, a better range.
You had it here first, Rob. So if you would like an
experience with Betadine powered batteries, you can hit up our friend Rezi [email protected] dot AU.
Because Segway he. Is the man.
In the know very. Good.
When it comes to EVs in Australia, like I said, if anyone's got the information, it's probably him about this.
So you know he's the best man to hit up.
He's also in the know when it comes to new car prices, so you can find him on facebook.com/carloop.
AU great Segway, we're impressed with that.
David Prince, you do a podcast. We have been known to, yes, it's
called Auto Retro, and we talk to people about the story of their cars. Rob's doing it.
What have you doing? He's doing it.
And I can start we can start making betadine injection systems instead of Nos. Nos Yeah, yeah.
If it's working, if it works for electric cars, sure, it can work for combustion cars. It can work on ambulances really
well. Especially got big wounds.
District Nursing. District Nursing Corollas. 100.
Percent you watch prices for benadine skyrocket.
Yeah. Who needs coke or when you got
benadine? Like I said, having having a
proper read of the article, you probably don't even need the benadine. You just need iodine
specifically. But because they use benadine as
a brand name, you know their stock has probably gone to.
The moon you're. Gonna see it at your local super
cheap auto and. Yeah.
Elon Musk is like buying it all at the moment.
He's like, yeah, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm gonna buy out, buy out benadine. I think he's got a race.
Tomorrow night I need 2 bottles of betadine stat.
Well, what do they say in the the 1st movie?
He's he's like I need 2 bottles I need and I need him by tonight. He's like, he's like amateurs
don't use Betadine, you know, you blow yourself to pieces.
You got a very heavy left foot. Right foot, sorry.
