to three weeks to I think once I filled up within a week, maybe at just over a week.
And I feel like that's, I don't know, given that it's mainly freeway kays, I should probably
be doing a bit better.

because I'm rocking up around by the time I get to about there is close to that seven
o'clock point.
So there's no cars there.
Normally Costco, Philips, you know, truck will lock, particularly if you're on the
weekend.

I'm like, ah, you'll be fine, mate.

And it was fine, at least this time.
So yeah, that's, that's kind of in my commute.
Subaru literally has not been started.

Well, we had a big weekend car wise.

So I took the scamp to Classic Japan, which was a lot of fun.
Crude and farm, new location, different direction.
Easy to get to from my place.
Just straight down the M11 ran like a little top, which was great.
I was as I was turning just before I got on to the Digni
bypass and was about to turn on onto the M11.
I heard a sound like something had fallen off or.
Or maybe I'd run over something.
But, you know, when something kicks up under the car and sort
of rattles along and back, but didn't feel any different,
didn't sound any different.
And I was in the right hand lane.
So I just kept going and turned on the M11.
And as I was speaking to Mitchell, we'd later, you know, I said,
I was trying to hear, listen to see if there was anything.
Anything untoward that sounded different.
But of course, when you're sitting at about seven and a half
thousand revs at 60 miles an hour in a Honda scamp,
you don't hear much else.
I know you don't watch sitting a foot in front of you screaming.
It sort of lungs out.
But so now I presume it's OK.
Couldn't see anything missing.
But when like a little top, that was great.
What else have I been driving?
The Odyssey, which is sitting outside my house at the moment,
looking with its cleaner.
I tell you, the color of the water that came out of those seats,
you've got no.
Are they back to brand new now?
They're pretty good, probably in all serious,
since I should give them another go.
There's been so much rain, you know, trying to get it to a point
where you can actually leave it to dry.
Yeah, air it out.
The day, the weekend I did it, you know, I left the doors open
and stuff, most of the weekend sort of thing.
And it went up nicely.
But yeah, I haven't had a chance since then.
Took it for a bit of a run down the freeway last night,
charged the battery up a bit.
And yeah, you know, it's it's nice, very nice.
Grand Prix has gone back.
That that rear brake is still giving me trouble.
And I know, you know, I people have offered to do an Italian tune
up and all those sorts of things.
Mr. Bunting, I appreciate it very much.

It shouldn't need that.
I paid money to have that car fixed.
It can go back and be fixed.
And I was telling someone else about it.
And they said, you know, it might have been an apprentice
or someone who doesn't isn't familiar with drum brakes.
Actually, he's installed the shoes the wrong way around.
Forcing them to push out instead of, you know, normally
because literally the other day, it was in the street.
It was in neutral handbrake off.
We've seen my place that's as flat as a tack around where I am.
It would not move.

So how did you get it to move?
Well, I started it and drove it.
But I mean, that right hand rebrake is still sticking on.
And it took a lot of revs to get it to move.
And you could hear the brake sort of grabbing.
Yeah. So it's not right.

I've never had this issue with with another one.
So it's gone back.

The highlight or there are a few highlights of Sunday,
which we'll go into.
But one of them was I got to drive the NSX home.
That was pretty.
Have you ever driven one before?
I've driven driven one a couple of times.
Even as far back as, you know, the early 90s,
I had a go in when we, a fellow from Honda Australia
bought one out to a concourse.
We had a black manual.
And yeah, I remember it.
I remember it well, but it was this was the most
the longest I've driven one in a while.
And it was whatever your thoughts on that car.
It's a superb piece of really is.
And the beauty of it is that it is so simple and easy to drive.
It just just like and Mitchell was saying that in the in the
in the development of that car.
And I'm sure I have heard it before,
but they wanted something that was was, you know,
usual every day to and but the the no power steering
in the manuals of the early cars.
And this is very early cars car number 27.
And actually, I was looking in the.
Well, that is an early car.
The owner's manual and the engine number is.
Two or three.
Oh, yeah.
It's a very, very low engine number.
And it turns out it was a press car for Honda Australia
originally.
So, you know, sold second hand by D'Amelian's into New South
Wales.
So no, no, sorry.

It was sold second hand by D'Amelian's in New South

It was delivered after Honda Australia by
Austral Honda in Queensland.

And what sort of power do they put out?
I don't even know.
I think they did the was the whole gentleman's

But yeah, they've been they've been a few touch ups done.

That's rare to have one that's done so many K's.
I don't think I've heard of another one.

Like, I know a lot of them have done K's,
especially in America.

because you don't want to stay in anyone's blind spot
because they would not see you.

Well, I haven't been on for a little while.

It's been a bit of a...
Yeah, I think I've told you a few of these stories,
but I don't think the listeners have heard this.
And of course, they're on the edge of their seats
wanting to know what they've been up to.
Did we get to the big girl breaking down?
The first time.
Correct.

So the big girl got fixed.
The tappity tap from the top of the motor
was the rocker hitting on the camshaft lobe
without enough oil.
So it was getting worse and worse.
So it went in to have the timing chains done,
but also, hey, can you investigate this tick-tick noise?
And that's when it broke down on the way.
Now, the tick-tick noise turned out to be
not enough oil spraying from the oil tube
to spray things in the head onto the cam lobes.
Hence, rocker goes slap, slap, slap on cam lobe
and starts to destroy that.
So it required new camshafts on both cylinder banks.
It required new rockers on both cylinder banks
as well as the timing chain detentions and the chain rails.
So another little home loan deposit later
the Benz was running nicely.
So, and of course, the breakdown,
the cause of that was that electronic module,
that spark plug amplifier module
that's by Bosch that sits under the bonnet.
So I said, yes, give me one of those please.
So you've got to change over one of those.
Anyway, I picked it up the morning before work.
I was driving at home in traffic,
just thinking, oh yeah, it sounds pretty smooth now.
And you know, if we go,
I got one kilometer from my house and it died again.
And it was just like the first time
whereas as if someone's turned it off,
you know, just bought just complete nothing.
So thankfully again, I was in, you know,
I was rolling at the time just.
So I sort of managed to roll it to the side of the road
and just slot straight into a car park there.
And I went, all right.
Well, now I do have our ACP total, yes.
Bit like David, I ranked nice tow truck people
and said, come and get it.
And I just walked home.
So they towed it back to my mechanic.
He plugged his module back in
and of course it fired straight up again.
So we said, well, I know it's the module.
He can only assume that the change over one was rubbish
and wasn't done properly.
So he sourced me an aftermarket Hitachi Japanese module.
I picked it up at lunchtime today.
I fanged at home.
I've just given it a wash
and taken it for a little fang to dry
the water droplets off.
Does anyone else do that?
Whenever I wash a car,
I drive it around the block to get the water off.
Yeah.
Out of the nooks and crannies.

So I took it.
It's so worked.
You see, when it does realize the microphones cut each other off.

I took it down to Floyd because everything had been done on it
like windscreen, shockers, control arm things,
oil pressure switch, engine mounts, you know, all of that was done
but the stuff that was left was sort of fiddly stuff,
like it's ordering the dash cluster to make the gauges work.
And we know what it is.
It's a common problem.
You know, we all know the theory of it.
But my mechanic was like, oh, I can't do it.
My early auto electric can't get on to him.
You know, it's just everything's just dragging.
Can't do it. The boys go can't do it.
Can't do it. Can't do it.
So Floyd was like, yeah, I do that sort of stuff.
And I'm like, well, he's two hours away.
But if it actually gets it done, I don't care.
I will drive it to you.
So he's had it for a week and he's played around with it
and fixed all of the things and I'm picking it up Thursday night.
So great. That's all I want.
And then that'll go for sale.
It's funny because he's got a Pajero
that's extremely modified but pretty much the same year
and you know, series.
And he goes, wow, yours are so quiet and refined.
And I was like, I don't think that's condition based.
I think it's the massive array of modifications.
Like he has a pipe out the side of his,
like a three inch pipe that doesn't go out the back of the car.
It goes out the side of the car.
That gives you an indication of the level of mods
that this thing has.

for that, you know, buy this online, buy that online.
So I've got all the things
that the roadworthy man said he needed.

Oh, yes, sorry, big update, big update.
I purchased, I forgot about that,
with my friend Nick, sometimes listener of the show.
Let's just call him Volkswagen Nick
because he does have a Volkswagen.
We purchased a Ford laser off esteemed,
sometimes guest on the show, Mr. Jim Barlow,
who was going to have it towed away from his site
because he didn't like it anymore.
And Nick and I said, well, we can do something with that.
So we per-faced it.
And that was a bit of a fun resurrection, actually.
If you've got a minute, do you want to hear that?
Absolutely.
OK, I mean, it is a car show, I suppose.
So we went down to Phillip Island,
where the car was residing last Saturday to resurrect it.
The idea was that we'd buy a brand new battery,
we put it in, we start the car and we drive it back to Melbourne.
But of course, things don't always go to plan with old cars.
So new battery goes in, half a tank of fuel registering on the gauge,
laser cranks over beautifully, crank, crank, crank, crank, crank, crank, you know?
But no fire.
So fortunately, I'd taken my can of Start Your Bastard,
which is a fantastic product.
It's basically pure ethanol, I think.
And if there's the most minute spark anywhere, it will fire.
Yeah, boom.
So so I I sprayed that copiously down the car.
And it did sort of splutter for a second or two
and run and then and then die again promptly.
But that can was quite old.
It sort of had a rusty top on it.
And I thought, I don't know how potent it was.
So when it wasn't sort of spraying like a jet
and it was dribbling out of the can, I said to Nicky,
I think we need a fresh can.
So fortunately, in Phillip Island, right near where we were,
is the autopro store.
So we go and get a fresh can of Start Your Bastard.
We go back and I sprayed a bucket load of that down the car.
And then it started and it idle.
It wasn't blowing smoke.
It was actually running really sweetly.
And I went, all right, that's good.
Just I said to Nick, don't touch anything.
Don't touch the choke. Don't try.
Just let it run, let it run, let it run.
So we did that.
And then, of course, I want to drive it.
So we put the trade plate on and fanged it down
to the local servo to pump the tyres up,
got to the servo, OK, let it running
while we're pumping the tyres up and then it died.
And then it would not start again, even with the new Start
Your Bastard spraying down the car, it would not start again.
And I was like, this is not good.
I thought, well, the only thing we know the spark fine in theory,
the only thing it could be is maybe the half tank of fuel
and it is absolute rubbish.
You know, it's been in there for years.
So we pushed it from the tyre thing around
to the actual fuel pump thing and topped it up with some 98.
And the guy next door was very nice.
He said, oh, you got some trouble?
You OK? And I said, yeah, look, it's this.
It's that's been sitting, you know, we'll be all right.
He said, oh, it's obviously got spark.
I'm like, yeah, that's what that's what we thought.
So, you know, but nice to have someone with a bit of knowledge,
you know, having it having a yarn.
So then while Nick was in paying, I was just relentlessly
cranking laser, cranking laser, cranking then suddenly fires into life
and then it didn't stop.
It was great. Oh, we took it for a fang
around Phillip Island, took it to the car wash, blasted all the crap off it.
And then it went all the way back to to Melbourne without a hitch.
So laser drives well. Nice.
I mean, that's done 163.
It hasn't done a lot of work really.
And the roadworthy list on it that Jim had done was it was a comprehensive list.
But it wasn't anything horrific like it was no oil leaks.
You know, it was basically rear tires older than 10 years.
You know, it was things like, you know, front brake discs and pads
and rear brake wheel cylinders and just sort of, you know, DIY kind of stuff.
So I said to Nick, well, those bits are not, you know, for lasers
are not expensive, you know, we can probably get it roadworthy
for not insane amount of money.
And then at least if it gets on sold, it's it's sold with a roadie.
You can either put it straight on club plates or you could just go and register it.
Yeah. You know, that's that's quite a selling point.
I think a roadie on a car like that.
So yeah. And it's my first ever laser.
I can't believe that I've never owned another Ford laser in my entire life.
I don't think. Welcome to the club.

I was like, oh, it's quite solid.
The doors are quite solid and the seats felt good.
Like they were they weren't just horrible, old, thin, yucky seats.
They were quite, quite supportive.
And I said to Nick, the styling even on these is quite it's sort of taught.
You know, there's not a lot of excess overhang or silliness about it.
It's got a it's got a purposeful, taught little body on it.
And I was like, yeah, yeah, I get it, Ford laser.

It'll start knocking against the firewall or that's what it feels like.

We were only there for maybe three hours, four hours and headed off
and then went to the caravan and camping show, which was on Geelong as well.

So they actually had a Ford Transit fitted out in Snowy River Campers.
That is a Julie, a brand new one.
Yeah, I'm hoping they won't have as many problems with the transit as they do with mine.

So obviously it was close to Japan this weekend.
So I was trying to get my cars ready.
Got the Camry, PDR and the rear quarter that come up a lot better.
That looks really good.
Yeah, I was really happy with that.

Yeah, so he's he's a bit of a he's a bit of a magician.
So a couple of the guys are super cheap when they saw it.
They're like, geez, that's pretty good.
So I gave him I gave him his number.
Then we got we are talking and he owns his own some really cool cars,
including a KHTX Returbo full drive, which is I didn't know that,
which is one of, as you know, my list of dream cars to get.
So we got talking about that.
And he's like, yeah, I bought it years ago, whole south of 17 grand.
And he's like, what are they worth these days?
I'm like about about that for an OK one.
It was a bit taken back by that, but that was quite it was quite funny.
It was it was worth it was worth listening to.
Then.
So yeah, so so that was the Camry getting getting a bit of love,
gave it a good clean, spent a little bit of time
just detailing all the looks and crannies and bits and pieces
and come up really, really good for the show,
which we'll get to in in a in a little bit.
Then I went to on Friday night to pick up the MR2.
So I drove my fiesta out to my friend,
Mary's place where my car stays and hopped in the MR2,
parked the fiesta, like just just did the old garage swap,
driving the MR2, got about a block down the road.
And I saw the temperature start to creep up.
And I was like, oh, dear.
Then I saw the the revs just because I came to a stop
and the revs were hunting was gone.
It's up and down, up and down.
They're like, this is not good.
This is cause never done anything like this before.
So I pulled over, turned it off
and I turned it back on to hear if the fan was coming on
and the fan wasn't coming on for the like, you know,
the radiator fan.
So I'm like, that's interesting.
So I started the car up again,
flicked the air con on the air con fan flicked on.
But the temperature was still climbing.
And I'm like, OK, because it's a front
the front radiated mid in like mid engine car
might take a little bit longer to get there.
So I put the heater on as well, just to, you know,
get a bit of extra coolant to run to run through the car.
And then about a couple of seconds
I had the temperatures just came back down to normal.
So with the fan kicking on.
So I'm like, OK, so could be a fan issue,
could be an idle air control valve issue,
could be a could be a whole bunch of things,
but it didn't explain the overheating.
Well, but I mean, it could have
because if the fan was kicking on, there's that there's that reason.
So yeah, a little bit disappointed.
I was like, you know what, best be safe than sorry.
I don't want to blow it up.
Don't blow a head gasket.
That's all, you know, that'll be all I will I need.
My wife will not be even more happier with me at that point.
So I decided to just let it cool down,
kept the air con drove it all the way back to my friends house.
Parked, you know, swapped it over, parked it up again
and then left to feed it and took it to and took the fiesta home.
Which didn't let me down, Rob.
So that's a modern for that's actually somewhat OK, Rob.
There you go.
Then so, yeah, I was a bit disappointed.
But it is what it is.
It was driving the Camry all week and all weekend, actually.
It's it's been it's been great.
It's been the more I'm driving, the better it's getting, which is
like the starting issues are pretty much nonexistent anymore.
It's just it's just it's just running really nicely.
I think because I put a I put
probably put a three or four tanks of fresh fuel in it now.
I think that's really cleaned it out.
I did give it a boot full on the freeway and all this rusty smoke.
Well, not smoke, but just rust come out of the exhaust.
So the people behind me, I don't think we're too pleased with me.
But I think the exhaust needs a bit of it needs a bit of a cleaning up.
But yeah, I think nicely.
Aircon is icy cold, cruise works.
Like everything works in that car.
The electric aerial, it's going to get the little control panel.
What tells you what gear you're in?
I think one of the they might need to be resold in some parts
because like the normal light and the overdrive button light
aren't activating.
So I think they need to be have a look.
I mean, they flicker sometimes and then they go away.
So I think that they're they're probably a little bit dodgy, but that's OK.
We can that's a kind of a that's a bit of a nothing issue in comparison.
So I'll get round to doing that.
But yeah, that was great, which leads us to classic Japan.
First time at Crude and Farm, new location,
which was which I didn't realize until speaking with with with
good listener of the show and good friend Kenny.
Who I believe he said to me it was bought by the Murdochs for his wife, I believe.
That's that's which I had which I had absolutely no idea.
I thought it was just some old old farm that people are like,
oh, yeah, that's kind of cool. Pika Garcia.
No, no, Dame Elizabeth Murdoch, the group at Murdoch's mother,
I think lived there pretty much her whole life.
Yeah, exactly right.
Well, OK, she was.
And there's this I remember years ago, there was some gardening show
and she was driving around in a perjo sort of on camera, you know,
just sort of talking about the farm and stuff.
So yeah, it's quite a well-known property.
Yeah, I honestly I never I hadn't even heard of it until then
until this event was was was being put there.
So yeah, I am drove out on the Sunday morning
all the way to the meeting location for the Honda Car Club,
which was at a pub like about two minutes away from the from the event.
Yeah, Beretta's Languaron Hotel.
That's the one.
And got there, got there super early because like I
me being me, I checked on my phone
on a Friday afternoon, how far it is to get there.
I'm like, oh, Jesus, it's going to take me two hours to get there.
Me not thinking didn't factor in.
Oh, that's just good with with traffic.
I got there in under an hour.
So I was sitting there waiting at about seven o'clock.
So then I drove over to the local McDonald's
and got a McMuffin meal for breakfast with an orange juice
and then waited for the next car to arrive, which was Edward Bunting.
Yes, I to ragged my way there, which was
yeah, also an early start, not quite as early as you made.
But and then and then they started to pile in a little later.
I think it was then Mr. Prince survived.
And oh, no, we didn't see you and we didn't see David.
We saw David driving the episode way.
Andrew and Laura rocked up in the Magna and their Camry
and and then Mike Doubledane, a few other Honda people rocked up.
And and then we thought, oh, we've got to get in
early to our little showroom-esque display.
So we off down the road and that sort of worked.
Yeah. So so we we kind of nicked off up, excuse me,
for some context, David Prince, they were a bit apprehensive to leave you.
Oh, we didn't. Yeah, we wanted to wait for you.
But then I just remembered Morris from the from the tour.
Like get there early if you want to do this stuff.
And I'm like, oh, I'm glad I'm glad we did, though,
because because I think we got a good spot by the water.
Yeah. And even though we weren't able to fully set up the way we wanted to,
we still we still set up pretty, pretty well, which we'll get to in a second.
But we drove down down there.
I took the wrong entrance as I as I wasn't thinking.
And I was just following other cars on the car.
They're going here. Must be going there.
So I followed them wrong entrance, drove all the way back around
to the other entrance, which is fine.
Yeah, driving, driving through a bit of a weird one
because like you're driving and like down this little gravel road
and you kind of just covered in trees and you're like, where am I going?
And it just kind of opens up into this broad kind of like, you know,
Homestead-esque kind of location.
And I was like, OK, I get this now.
So then we so Ed got in front of me and then I was following them
and the SV 21 wagon by a good friend, Andrew,
was worth yes, he owns other cars besides Magnus.
And for our listeners who are like, oh, he owns the Toyota.
I'm here, they actually owns two and so he.
So yeah, so we parked them up.
We got we got to shoot really nice spot.
They were they didn't allow us to do our kind of like our three way set up
with the van in the middle and you know, on the side and stuff.
So it is what it is.
But we still got in there.
We weren't allowed to bring our plans out
because they might have contaminated the other the other plans.
So I wanted to thank you again on the show, Edward, personally, for for just pick them up.

I think with the great big window banners that had the full drive away
price with the features with the features that are on that car looked great.

And people sort of liked it
because we had the three cars next to each other with the, you know,
twenty one, three, ninety, you know, on the windscreen
and whatever they were, thirty one on your Camry Matthew and
yeah, people kind of walked up and saw the flags around it.
And I think they they were like, oh, wow, this is something a bit different.
Yeah, I thought it was I thought it was pretty cool.
Like, I think I think I worked really, really well.
I think we should definitely do that again.
And Ed Matthews Toyota was in full was in full flight.
I think that should they had the number plate covers

We did the stickers as well, which which thanks to Mitchell Mitchell Prince.
It was incredible, son, which I'm going to thank him again

But yeah, you know, you organized those stickers for us.

So David Prince, you rocked up next to a lovely red NSX,
which Mitch Mitch brought around.

I really wanted to park next to him
because there's only 20 years between those two cars.
So the scams of 1970 model and the NSX was delivered in 1990.
So for for a manufacturer, you know, if anyone is in doubt
about Mr. Honda and how much he loved his cars and stuff,
you know, that's that's how much he loved his cars.
He went from something like the scamp in in 1970 to the NSX in 20 years.
And it's I don't can't think of another company
that's had a had a progression like that really.
It's a it's a big leap.
Yeah, very big leap and not yet 20 years sounds like a long time.
But sort of isn't really when you talk automotive development.
No, it's not at all.
If you look in 20 years ago, like that's, you know, B series Falcon,
your VY Commodore, it's in and they still feel kind of relatively new.
But if you look at the development from from here to then
from now to then that was big.
But then you look at the development from like the 70s to 90.
That was that was huge.
So it's it's from a different world, the NSX, David Prince.
It is. It's like something from out of space in compare and 360.
I mean, obviously, they were built for different markets
different requirements.
But, you know, the NSX is really such an iconic Japanese car
through the development of it.
The fact it's aluminium, they built a special factory to build it in.
And of course, you know, the the legacy of Ed and Senna
doing a very famous test drive in his on his slip on slip on shoes.
You know, they just happen to have a camera in the foot well.
Luckily.
And they basically threw the keys back to them and said,
yeah, no, it's too loose.
It needs to be tighter.
And so they went back and they made it tighter.
And as a result, it was a stunning car.
So you brought that.
Jim Barlow brought his 500,000 K.
EK Civic, which which got a bit of attention, actually,
people like, I can't believe how clean this is for its case.
So that did he did really, really well with that.
Good friend of the show, David Day brought his FD RX7.
Yes, that's the first FD I've ever sat in.
And I actually fit in it quite nicely.
I was like, oh, I could get used to this and then I looked at
I did some research on the prices and like they have gone absolutely ridiculous.
So I won't be getting one of those, David, anytime soon.

He said, I'm coming to pick up a motor compo.

And of course, David Day's got a couple of Honda cities,
which the motor compo is designed to follow a bike that fits in the back.
Interestingly enough, I don't think there was one city there.

So how do I take in mine?
It would have been the only one.
Someone tried to tell me when I was talking to them about
Hondas that there was a red one over over in the far paddock.
It was right on the end of the line next to the NSX.
I said, no, that's actually not a city.

So I felt like a DeLorean for for about five minutes.
So yeah, that was pretty cool.

how did you think the event went?
I think it went very well.
And my pick of the day was I chatted to the owner of this for a bit.
An eighties Navarra in Cab.
I spoke, I was there with you.
Yes. So it was a silver King Cab, I think.
And but it had these beautiful red and orange decals down the side.
And he'd bought it from some farming
kid up in the country.
It had a I think a canopy on it, he said, and the wrong wheels.
And, you know, a few things that weren't quite right.
The tourner was missing, but but he could see that the bones were really good.
So he paid five grand for it, he said.
And then it probably owes him 15 now.
But, you know, got rid of the canopy, got the tourner made up for it.
Just all those details that we like to do to a car
that's that the bones are very good on.
So he's done all of that.
And it just looked really sharp.
But it was the original red gel on it, be something, something still on the plates.
And I looked at that and just went, yeah, I'm down with that.
I really like those eighties youths, the simplicity of them.
And the the if you get the right
that I was saying to him, the tub in this thing is huge.
You know, it's way bigger than any modern dual cab you.
So you actually use them for purpose, put stuff in it.
It's a totally square, big tub.
And it was a four wheel drive, Navara.
So it was sort of useful being a four wheel drive.

it was a floor shift manual, which I don't think shovel nose
coronas, wherever floor shift manuals, I think it might have been converted.
But I thought they were only give a column shift.

But I thought I walked around and I thought, God, it's it's not rusty.

parents came and they were in a burgundy, two door sedan, Datsun 1000.

And his dad is is quite a carry and had restored it.

The interior had been done beautifully, sympathetically, looked original,

It was just an absolute little sweetheart of a car.
An interesting point, Rowan, told me about that car.
Most of it is fiberglass.
Really? When he restored it, he bought that car from Hickapart.
And it was it came from out the front of Hickapart years ago
and was really original, but quite rusty.
So he molded all of the panels after the originals as templates,
but in fiberglass. Get it out.
Oh, a lot of that car is actually not metal.
Well, that's hilarious, because David Day actually knows him
because he's in the Bowel Bowl Club, Bowl Club.
And of course, Bowel's a fiberglass.
So yeah, obviously he he worked at Bowel, perhaps.
Maybe he's got some skills in fiberglassing area.
Yeah, I was looking at it and Rowan said, oh, yeah, that's Karen's dad.
That's a speedboat.
Yeah, so I just had to be a bit lighter than the standard car.
So it might actually move.
I actually had driving lessons.
My aunt had a Datsun 1000 automatic four door.
And I used to have driving lessons as a 17 year old in that.
And it was a pretty vile thing in an automatic, I've got to say.

But yeah, this was a column manual, little two doors to there.

Had the correct hubcaps on it, had the badges were perfect.

And what was the best part about that little Sigma was the paint was great.

So yeah, I love it.

Like they were like when it was raining, which it did again, Melbourne.
You know, I want to stop in and this comes in real handy when those at shows.
We all piled in the Raga.

Club Raga. Yeah, it's been that's been the case of a few shows
where we've all piled into that when it's gotten torrential.
It had.
So, yeah, we all piled into that.
And but, yeah, that little car was real is really, really nice.
I loved the did you guys see the blue WRX GC8 wagon?
I noticed it.
Yeah, it was really clean and original, like a factory exhaust.
And it looked like it was just an original car,
a factory stereo, I think, too.
And just like all just it was just so original.
I'm like, you don't see an original WRX like like that.
But also, you don't really see many wagons
because the wagons were just just just flogged to death
and not really like, excuse me, the sedans.
So. So that one was that one was was was really, really cool to see.
The MR2 that made mine look really bad
because it didn't mind and show up was there was that red one.
That was that's I think, you know, who who owned that one, David?
That was a really, really clean, you know, lots of case, but fully restored.
You know, the paint was flawless on it.
That was that was that was a red M2 there on the gen one.

With the dog leg first gear box.
So my my boss in my in my area work had had one as his first car.
And it's the car he regrets selling.
He always tells me some stories about it and factory LSD and all that sort of stuff.
And he reckons it was a great thing.
I hadn't seen one that that clean and original in a very long time.
Yeah, I had enough to make a wheel on it, but that didn't bother me.
But yeah, you know, white over black, they only came in three colors.
I think with the whites, the red, the they came in a yellow, I think in.
And it was but like I didn't recognise it until like I didn't recognise
the little features that they had.
Like they had a I remember that was two time white of a black, for example.
But they had like a little blue stripe right right around the side of them.
And I didn't I could never remember that.
And it was cool.
Like I was like, I was really taken taken aback by it.
I was like, this is this is cool.
So I spoke triple less fabric in the seats to the inserts would sit triple
less, triple less, triple less, triple less.
So cool.
Like it's yeah, it was like it was like I I assume a lot of them
were just rallied to death.
Like they were probably a good little rally car.
They were just rallied to death and just killed that way.
All rust got them.
But yeah, I just remember looking at it.
I was like, wow, this thing's so cool.

But what was cool to see also was how many ratty
300 ZX's there were like all the all the 300 ZX shipbox rally cars.
Like I was like, this would be well, Chad mentioned this as well.
He's like, you know, full props to you for driving this car.
One of this is arguably most interestingly reliable in vertical commas
in by interesting, you know, cars that they made,
which is not easy to work on and you're taking them on these these
trips right around right around Australia.
But yeah, I thought it was I thought it was pretty cool.
And I think the other car, the other favorite car there,
which is not as good as a triple S this time around was the was that lovely.
And I saw him on the freeway and we gave each other a thumbs up,
was the Mazda three to three, you know, turbo.
You know, it was like the little familiar.
Yeah, but I wasn't familiar.
It's it's because of, you know, Aussie delivered one,
which is it, which is our TX three turbo four wheel drive turbo.
It was it was so nice and original and clean.
And every time I see that car, like this is a good car.
So they were my they were my top picks of the day that were a bit unique.
Well, what surprised me this time was like there wasn't a lot of, you know,
one certain car that was there was kind of like ones of kind of a lot of cars.
And I think because usually you go to an event like that and there's like
a hundred, you know, Skylines or a hundred this or a hundred that.
But, you know, this time there was one to bless Danzo.
There was, you know, one WX wagon.
There was one MR2 AW11.
There was, you know, one Camry wagon.
You know, there was this one to one to I go, besides the Toyota one.
You know, I mean, that was, you know, it's.
You know, there's usually two because they they Morris and his son
use that other one as a Toyota club car and it's all signed written up
and it takes all the banners and people and stuff.
That's usually a regular.
Yeah, that was me.
Yeah. So yeah.
So it was interesting to see the wide array of cars.
But yeah, I think overall great event, the Toyota Club.
I think they do some really good events, just putting it out there.
Like they're very like the way they organize it, plenty of
plenty of vendors, plenty of options to eat and things there.
So yeah, I think the day went really well.
I think I think for them, it was probably a good chance to
to spread their wings over that side of town and have an event over there
and have an event closer to home.
So I think let's see if we're at Cruden Park next year.
It's probably probably a big chance of that.

You know, how do you finish up a podcast? Who do you want to thank?
I didn't win. Oh, Ed, who do you want to thank? I want to thank Subaru for making such a good car
in that RS2 of mine. It was a good car. Fuji Heavy Industries, that's who I want to thank.
You probably drove them new, did you? Were you a Polk then? Yes, I was, but no, not when they
were new. They were in sort of 93, 94, so they were a bit older. But two of my colleagues at
Polk at the time, Mr. Justin Lacey and Mr. Stuart McKinnon, both owned that exact car.
Wow. Now both Burgundy and Justin had the update with the FBT217, with the
indicator front lenses. And Stuart's was ERZ-881 that was slightly older with the non-curve front
indicator. Justin's had ABS, Stuart's did not, because ABS came in later.
That was better as a wagon too. A wagon. I mean, at that time, I wanted my parents to get a new
car while they were sniffing around. I think we ended up with the 626 Turbo second hand,
but I was like, please, can we buy a Liberty RS wagon? That was my dream.

Yeah. And they just looked so good, but they were quite subtle. They were a real sleeper.
A real sleeper. Yep, just that subtle bonnet scoop. No one really needed to know what it was.
I think they were quicker than a VN Group A. They were genuinely a quick car.
And both those guys who I know who had the RS Turbo sedans ended up trading them and getting
the new WRX, of course, which, you know, they got late 90s WRX. And both of them said the same thing.
Yes, the Rex is a quicker car, but it's tinier. It doesn't have the sound deadening of the
Liberty was just such a nice car in its own right as a motor. And they both said, yeah,
you know, in hindsight, the Liberty was nicer. I was at Bunnings very early in
in Warrigal Road in Hederton there a couple of few months ago now, and there was a red RS wagon
in the absolutely original and immaculate. And I've got a couple photos somewhere on my phone
because it was just a stunning looking thing. I think that's probably one of the nicer
shapes Subaru has done. Yeah, yeah, I'd agree. Yeah, it's my favorite. It's my favorite of
their wagon turbo wagons that they've done. So yeah, big fan of those. That's the podcast,

you're swinging, and it's all to do with your swing speed. So the faster that you are when it
comes to the swing speed, the stiffer you want. I've always said that. So, you know,
if you're at that stage of golf where you're a little bit unsure, I mean,
regular is where you tend to go with just the regular flex. But, you know, if you're
really getting into your golf, you might want to see how fast your swing actually is. And you
might need to change your shaft. Good. That's some good advice there, Scotty. Like that one.
