"happening is somebody has called out the lack of manhood in this person who's probably been driving some kind of big old SUV and they've probably been driving K car and they all you know, every other K car driver suffering. That dude, dude, he, he, he drives a big F-350 and, and is like, it was like, oh, this is a man's car. Even though decapitated Charles, if he hit it, you know, hit him head on. Quite literally just yeah, yeah,"

This is professional radio. Has front wheel drive.
Have you got anyone you want to think?
Just myself. And now we'll do the after
hours. Gentlemen, what would you go
for? Good.
OK. And because there's not a
supercar, there it is. It's not ordinary.
Perfection comes in the form of two letters.
A&U Long live My Ltd. Welcome to Car Talk.
I'm alum, not Mr Medjay. In the studio today, we've got
Mr Majay reaching us through the airwaves along with everyone else, along with Doctor Edward Bunting, Mr. David Prince, and
Scotty Johnson. How you guys all going?
Good. Evening alum and Matthew.
Doing well. Thank you.
Yep, doing pretty good. Thank you everybody.
Good night. Good to see you.
Thanks for running the show from the studio today.
Happy to help. And we live on the air, Alan.
Yes, we are. Meanwhile, since we've been live
on. It wasn't last week we were
live. On Like we.
Were I wasn't here. So there you go.
You know while since I've been living.
There, exactly. Speak for yourself, Ed.
Good to see all of you gentlemen.
Good to see you. Alan.
Thanks again for running the day for me.
I've been stuck with work and wasn't able to get there until, you know, until later. I just was like, oh, there's no
point. I'll just quickly duck home.
I have to do a few things anyway, so, but thank you.
Just want to thank you in advance Alarm for all your incredible efforts. Happy to help, just ask if we.
Love on here. Why is the clock behind you
Alan, a different type of what the time actually is?
Are you in a different time dimension?
That's what. Dimension.
No, unfortunately, David, this is one of those types of clock that's only right twice a day. And now is not the time, OK?
It's definitely not the time. No.
Good to know. It is a what is it?
It's a 14 past nine apparently, so that's what it was.
Like right for minutes, but that's just the hours that are that are out. That's what 3.
Yeah, they're very. I just had a look at the second
hand and it's definitely not moving.
Gentlemen, let's get on with some car update.
It's been awhile since we've done we've done a full car updates. If you listen to our latest
episode, we we just went from Scotty Australia to the topic because it kind. Of so you, didn't we?
Yeah, we could kind of just segment in real nice.
Edward Bunting. Edward Bunting updates with you,
my friend. How's all your cars going?
You still have you still got this damn Civic or is it going?
I haven't been on for a few weeks so I apologise.
The 2001 Honda Civic is officially sold OHS as of last night and I got a little bit ahead of myself.
I I thought that the Roadworthy ran out on Wednesday this week.
I had the 22nd in my head but I double checked it because the people were coming to pick it up tonight and it ran out last Sunday and I went to put on your head anyway.
I've rebooked it in to get another one on Thursday so and they were not fussed. They're not desperate for it, so
that's fine. So yeah, it's ironically it was
through a a friend of a friend, his or her friend's cousin is buying it for his daughter's first car.
So perfect car for that. But yeah, ironically, with the,
you know, having it online and Facebook Marketplace and all the hot air floats around and people stuffing around, you know, it just ends up going to a friend of a friend.
So it's sort of like a. Could have just done that in the
1st place anyway, so that is sold.
I'm rocking around in there called Euro at the moment, which I'm enjoying. It's a very nice thing to drive
and yeah, I've sort of stolen the road worthy spot I had booked for that for the Civic to get that out of the way and then I'll reboot the Accord and get that looked at.
Last Sunday, went to Cars and Coffee.
It was a collecting cars, Cars and Coffee.
I think it's the first one they've done out at Calder.
It was rather icy out there, not an amazing venue, sort of in the middle of a race track. I drove the mini out there cause
it's the only thing I had in town.
So, you know, saving, going and unlocking cars and spending two hours driving and commuting to get another one.
I took that, which was good. It drove very well.
And my friend Benny took a photo of me on the, on the, at speed on the, on the city link, which was quite nice.
It's, I don't think I've got any other rolling shots of that car.
So. No great shots.
It was good to have a. Couple shots of it in motion.
If I knew that was on, I would have popped.
Around. Yeah, it's sort of not that far
from your house, Scotty. But yeah.
There are a couple of interesting things there, but it was mainly newer stuff. A lot of Mustangs, a lot of
Porsches, a lot of newer Beamers, and things are just things that I don't get that excited about really.
You know, there was a guy that rocked up in a Nissan Urvan.
That was cool. So I checked, I chatted to him
for a bit, but it wasn't like highball, you know, that the highball, as we've said many times, is such an eclectic mix of weird and quirky stuff and just more of it now that this might get to that because it was, I think the first one they've done. But it wasn't, Yeah, it wasn't
like I didn't want to sort of hang around there for hours.
Now I was looking at all the cars like I do at highball.
Yeah. And that's about it.
I don't. I don't think I've done anything
else with cars. It's just Hondas are us at the
minute. Hmm.
OHP, here's one. Hang on this is a friend of mine
last Sunday or two Sundays ago I went down to country Victoria to help my friend pick up at 300ZX twin turbo coupe 1992 targa top auto. So this is a Jap import two
seater, which I'm told has a slightly shorter wheelbase than the four seater. Now that car is silver, you
know, pretty located like under 100,000 KS Jap import obviously yeah, quite tidy, quite an honest car.
It's had a little bit of pain here and there and you know needs a few little things done, but it's it's pretty clean.
I drove that car. It was I thought it would
probably be more neck snapping. It was more linear power, very
smooth, quite light in the steering.
And so it was a, it, it pulled well that it wasn't like, Oh my God, this is a, a supercar. It's more a grand Tourer I would
say. But that, yeah, that was a fun
little trip down and back. We took the euro down there,
averaged 6.2 litres per hundred, which I thought was pretty good
for a. A midsize.
Mid size car that's not brand new.
You know, it's done some guys and and listen, yeah, the Nissan drove well all the way back. So that was it was fun road
trip. And you got pulled over to the
cops, you told me what's? That.
You got, you got. You got pulled over by the cops
who then not too, not too long cause you know, no plates etcetera on the way back. But of course he did have a
permit on it. So that was fine.
The cop just checked that and we're on our merry way.
But yeah, one of those with no it's a bit of a magnet.
That's so funny because when I got my 34 GTR from one side of the city all the way to the other.
I. Drove, didn't get bothered.
I didn't even have proper regio or anything I had.
Insurance. I got insurance.
On it and I just drive straight. Through.
Like I, I brought the MX5 down from Shepperton or close to Shepperton and yeah, didn't get, didn't get bothered.
I wasn't as afraid of the point to point cameras at that point, you know, what are they gonna catch me on?
Yeah, that's why I didn't have to worry about the tolls any.
That's the way to do it. Just didn't have time to focus,
did this guy. With that midnight purple.
Two. David Prince updates with you.
Updates with me. A had a new award, a second hand
bar that I had repainted in the correct shade of border red for the accord. So that's gone on.
It just finishes that car off in a big way because it was so clean and tidy. Otherwise it's now looks even
cleaner and tidier. So the only other thing to do
externally now is really the aerial.
I've got a new mask for the aerial to cause they all break.
They're one of those cars that when the radio is on the aerials up, unless you remember to turn it, turn the radio off.
If you're, you know, backing up under a tree or going through a car wash is a big thing. Not that I go through car
washes, but I know a lot of people did do go through car washes in them and they'll break pretty easily.
So everyone at the records I've seen has got a broken error.
So it's just just they get a new aerial sharp, that new feed down into the motor and it drags it in and that should sort that out $30.00. That was pretty good.
And the good news is that I'm actually in possession of an import approval for my M1. Yeah, baby.
Here we go. Well, I hope it's good.
You know, like I've actually had no further update from anybody about any of the discussions that have been had by the Department of Infrastructure and the Australian Imported Vehicles Association, whatever it is. The only thing was that I just
had an email from the Department of Infrastructure yesterday saying that my application was successful or not completed and I've printed off the paperwork. So I actually emailed the
importer that I'm going through and also the compliance workshop that he's selected to comply for it.
It afforded the the approval to them and said, so I presume this is good news, You know, like it was.
Is this the bit of the missing puzzle we need?
And thankfully they're both quickly in my back and said yes, this is good news. And it revolves around the build
date of my car being prior to 10/21, which is the cut off date for some arbitrary decision makers decided that's when these cars won't be able to be imported.
Then as I said, I have no further update about yes or no or which cars are on them as to which cars are off the list, just this correspondence from the government.
So because I was booked for shipping but I don't have a date yet so it's in line to be shipped now we have an import approval. The compliance workshop assures
me that they can now comply the vehicle.
So Car Talk top tip if you're importing a Honda N1 into Australia from Japan, make sure it's before October 2021 build.
Correct, correct. And then we can all get some
sleep hopefully. Well, I'll get some sleep when
it's actually in the driveway. Let's let's not preempt these
things. There's a few steps that have to
happen before then, but. Can I just say that's insane.
Like wouldn't the newer the car the safer it be?
I think it's more to do because that doesn't correspond with any change in model. I think it's more to do with
regulations here have changed on that from that month around.
Side impact protection. Side impact protection or
something like that. So yeah, that's all I can
assume. But as I said, there's been very
little correct? Well, there's been no
correspondence. The only information I've heard
about understood about the whole thing apart from this email or two emails now one saying no, you can't, that we're not going to ground import approval for it at the moment.
And then now they've said they have.
But everything else I found on the Internet, on the on the K pages, on Facebook. So what could go wrong?
You've got the piece of paper. That's all you need.
Just say I got my paper. Yeah, that's right.
That's right. You bring that enemy, Yeah.
So that's good news. So everyone assures me it's good
news. And I'm stoked now because that
that's really good if it can all go ahead as I hoped it would originally. In one RSS.
Everybody up in the process will speed bump in the process.
We'll, we'll. Call that.
Yes, absolutely, Scooby Doo. Nothing overly exciting, just
kind of a little bit nerdy. So.
You're in. You're in safe space, Scotty.
Yes, I finally came, tracked down the brakes and that that's on the Toyota Blade. So I've been trying to message
and contact Endless. They take forever to reply back
to and the finally the front because the last time we talked, I talked about the rear. So I knew what pads on the rear
but I didn't know anything about the fronts.
The front obviously is a special order kit for it, but the discs are 323 by 30 mil. And it's hard, yeah.
And it tells me what pads I can use on A2.
So now I know what pads I can use for the fronts and the rears and I know if I want to change the discs what size I need for the. The only silly thing is you go
to Endless as a website and they don't really have prices or anything. Hmm.
Those products like hey, we got this and that's it.
So you let go. OK, that doesn't.
Help. You have to ask.
You can afford it. Well, The thing is you kind of
try and contact them and you don't know which one to contact.
And the ones for Australia to contact, I don't really have like a website, it's that old. Don't know.
But that's alright. It's good to know at least I
know if I just need some discs so I can don't have to go with endless. Just as long as they're there,
as long as they're that size and that thickness, that's all that matters. And then on the weekend I did a
bit of shopping for some car cleaning products.
So I've got some. I don't not sure if everyone
uses the same but some Mcguires car wash I use the pink soft wash. Me too, Scotty.
You use that one too. Yeah.
So I got some of that. I've got some wheel cleaner and
tyre shine and got some leather wipes for the interior.
Um, different kind of cloth to clean it than the old shammy.
So there's a different one that they have out now.
So I got one of those microfiber ones.
So I had a bit of a shopping spree trying all the blacks.
Very tasty. Yep, Yep, Yep, Yep.
So that's your car update. Alarm updates with.
You nothing too fancy on the car front, the MX5 again, we'll call it transmission issues. Today the transmission wasn't
playing ball as much last time I drove it was it just picks the day. It's like today I'm going to be
bad. What does it do, Alan?
Basically when particularly its second and third shifting into second and third, there it kind of wants to grind.
If you try and obviously push it into gear or if you, you know, work with it and just give it a beat or I guess rip it up higher and then shift into gear, it's fine.
Because I thought if it was an actual synchro issue, I should be having the problems at all speeds shifts, not always particularly high speed shifts I think, but I don't know.
So I've I've done a few things to fix it, including slave cylinder, master cylinder, adjusting the actual clutch, bleeding the clutch fluid again. So Maddie suggested it might
just be a situation where the clutch is just worn too far.
Um, and so I thought about maybe I'll take it to a transmission shop in like a specialist just to have them drive the car.
Tell me what they think, because it may just be the case that second and third syncros, they usually the ones they abused it most of the time because if you go into first you going when you're stop anyway, it's not really a big deal.
So second, third is usually the ones are getting abused in traffic. So it could just be that those
synchros are just worn and sometimes they.
What was it? Did it do this?
No, I wouldn't say it did it. Like maybe I was a little more
careful with the driving I guess.
Is to me, you've done bugger all cases in that car.
So if it wasn't doing it when you got it and it's doing it now, that says to me it's probably not synchronous or something hugely mechanical. It's it's something surrounding
the clutch like like you say, you like you've done the slave and the adjustment. It's something relating to that
rather than, you know, synchronous.
Don't just go overnight. It's a long.
Process. And, and because it's so
intermittent, like, like when you first get into the car, it'll smooth as butter, will shift into third, like you just need your thumb to kind of guide it in and that's it.
And occasionally do that again and again.
But then occasionally just like, Nope, I've had enough.
You're gonna have to struggle with this and, you know, just go slowly. So some people started the idea
that the actual clutch fork, there's I guess the spring mechanism related to that. And that might be, you know,
something that kind of goes and it intermittently cause me trouble. And if that is the case, then
the transmission have to come off.
I'm like, well, I'm in for clutch.
I think maybe giving a transmission specialist there would just be like, can you drive the car feel what I'm feeling and kind of give me an idea and might be might be the way to go. The other cars just fine.
As I said, the DMX is due for ServiceNow.
Gotta book that in. I keep forgetting.
Something else I'm always enjoying is buying things because you know, guys love buying things.
I got a little toolkit. It's semi automotive related.
I guess this one's more like a general toolkit.
It's made by Weira. I believe they're German brand.
I'm always a big fan of tools that inexpensive, really good value for money. And this one had kind of all the
all the reviews of the Sky like sockets going from 5 1/2 millimetres to 13 millimetres up at the top right, a bunch of bits through here. Nice.
And 1/4 inch socket at which you can also actually place in the case itself like this and you used to get extra leverage.
Yeah, cool. So it's it's yeah, cool multi
kit that you can kind of put in the car or something if you need like, you know, disconnect battery terminals or something small. I just wish I had this when I
was working on the Falcon because that last the the plastic cover for where the spark plugs are, there is no space in there in the green top because it's it's a little bit higher. Like you need to have kid hands
to kind of get into get into that the last bolt, which this would come in handy for, but that became the edge problem and then somebody. Else problem.
I didn't take the plugs. Out that's yeah, that was about
all the updates for me. Well, there's me laser got hit
by somebody. So that was that was always
that's always fun. Sorry.
Yeah, as Edward say, what did? I'd said more hits than Elvis.
Yep, that's the one. So.
I thought about this correct, yes or two.
My laser got backed into the person was kind enough to let the number. So that was all right.
They were driving a rental vehicle and the excess is $5000.
So he's like, can I just give you the money for whatever it costs because it's got to be cheaper than $5000 on make sure.
So that'll be the IT was supposed to give me a call today. Give me a call tonight to give
me a final quote for everything. So like, you know, a bus
tomorrow morning, say, hey, where's my quote?
Because I want my coffees because he's that was a tail light damage. The rear bar damaged the
tailgate. Sorry, this is.
The same is the same panel that seemed to come multiple times, yeah. That's the one.
Part of it is like he keeps bringing it back.
He's like far out. He's like, he's like, you bring
it back and it's got like 40,000 more keys on it.
And he also saw the roof. He's like, he's like, what have
you done to the roof? I'm like, Oh my God, that's
just, you know, it's been that long since I've seen you John.
And he's like, oh, OK, so, so I said, well, just quote me up a price and how much to fix the roof as well.
And I'll see if I want to do it. Just wait till I spray the whole
car issues. Like I'd be happy to just put
another light in it because he damaged the retail light, but he's also where he's damaged the tailgate.
It's if I close the book, it'll just crack the new lens anyway.
So I was like, whatever, after I'll drop one still properly.
So, yeah, that, that's that John, the Typhoon would actually, which has been good driving really, really well.
I'm getting used to the new clutch now.
It's starting to wear in a little bit more and, you know, it's starting to, you know, be a lot nicer to drive.
The, the, the clutch actually feels a lot lighter as well than what it used to. So I don't know if that's
because of the aftermarket slave cylinder or that I put in it or whatever, but it's, it's yeah, it's quite, it's quite easy to drive. There's also a sense of it's
like a bit easier on the rest of the drivetrain.
So, so I'm not getting as much noise as from, you know, from the Poly bushes in the rear end. So yeah, it's, yeah, it's, it's
a lot better. It, it, it drives so much better
than it did before. So I've been, I've been really,
really happy dropping that. Drove the Fiesta.
I've got to take the MR2 to get its service and a remain done because that is starting to get to the point where it's getting bad. So I was like, you know what, I
gotta get that done, But that'll probably be a next couple next couple expenses, you know, save up to all of that one and fix that one up. But I think that's pretty much
it on my end, gentlemen. But I laser is getting the
walls, so it's a it's just poor little car keeps copying us anyway. It was it was weird because when
I was walking out to my car, Mike audit tell me gotta find because I saw something on the on this thing like why would I get a fine where I'm parking and I look like, sorry, I hit your car. I'm like, oh, and then like my
heart just sank. I'm like, OK, I get to the back
and it's just like, yeah, well, there it is.
So. You're really lucky they left to
know, I suppose. I mean, yeah, no.
The fact that he left annoying in my quoting is like, look, I hit you with a rental van I had when I was moving stuff and it's gonna cost me $5000 of excess because I didn't pick the optional excess box. I think, I think it was six or
where we got the car from. And and because he left a note,
like, look, I'll, I'll happily work with you.
I'll give you a quote and you know, we'll, we'll go from there. But I did feel bad in that case
cause he, cause he did do the right thing.
But, but we'll see what he says when he gets the quote and get my car fixed and then fine. Because a few people are like,
well, why can't you drive you backing into things like I didn't back into anything. But of course, of course that.
This one wasn't my fault. Like what?
What about the one on the the Melrose Dr exit?
Yeah, let's not. Talk about that.
Let's not talk about that one. That one was my fault on a rainy
night. I shouldn't have been going that
fast. But anyway, let's let's leave it
at that gentleman tonight's. Topic Before you introduce a
topic Maddie, I recall that we missed the topic.
We did. It was a topic on the 7th of May
which was introduced was cars you would buy from the following brands. So brand new cars Honda, Nissan,
MG and Subaru. Do you want to do that topic,
Maddie? So so, Alan, introduce our topic
please. OK so if you were to buy a brand
new car from the following brands, I lost the page.
I believe it was Honda and Nissan MG or Subaru.
Which cars are the lineup would you buy?
Wow. Let's start with Honda, shall
we? Because we've got our resident
Honda aficionado and historian, Mr. David Prince.
Let's start with Honda's current line.
Now Honda's current lineup is the following they have got.
This is Australia. Australia, correct?
Yeah, Not World War, right. The new yeah, the Honda Accord,
the HIV, the Ziv, the CRV Civic and Type R, and that is their current lineup. So, gentlemen, what would you
have? What would you buy?
I can speak for everyone here. We're all in type R, yeah.
Maybe just two different colours.
I I'll also add that I wouldn't like I don't mind the look at the the accord. I like to know it's.
No Accord Euro from Yes dear, but it's given that it's so difficult to get a decent sedan, I actually think the the course today is pretty nice. Can I, can I just say I wanna
add to that, I don't think there has been an record that's looked as better as the the CL9 euro, the 1st generation Euro sense like, like it's still that car still holds up today in terms of its design language and and it's, it's styling so.
Like to purchase one Matthew? Sure fan of a black on black car
I believe. Was there not a year are that we
were discussing at the picnic? Ed What picnic?
The Sakura. Picnic Sakura.
Yeah, I didn't have it then, but I've got it now.
You've got the euro. Yeah, yeah, you're, no, it's
not. You're just a euro.
It's just euro but Emmanuel. No, it's ordered.
You lied to me, Ed. You discussing a manual You're.
Oh no, sorry, that was a sniper one.
That's that's another friend has a silver manual.
That's the one we're talking about.
That's all we're gonna try and hustle.
I mean, I don't really want it, but I know someone in the Hunter Club who does anyway. So rolling, type passing, What
colour are we going? I'll take the Is there a red
one? There is a red yeah.
I'm looking at the colours now. Get ready.
Really. There's only four colours.
Yeah, I know. Sonic Grey, the red, the
charcoal is it? No.
So that's like. Black.
People so white, black, red, Sonic.
Sonic Grey? Yeah, Crystal black.
Rally. For neighbours.
Neighbours got the Sonic grey. I drove that a couple of
Saturdays ago that. Was what do you think?
Yeah, I liked it. I liked it.
I think he was amused at how I drove it, but.
Amused or? He was sort of holding.
The foot to the floor immediately had the blade.
Cutting. It was already warmed up.
I want to see what I can do. But the Sonic Grey is quite
nice. Sonic Grey is lovely, and
there's one sitting for immediate delivery on the floor at Easton Honda. Just saying.
And it would be quite easy to maintain that colour.
It's a nice. Light doesn't show nearly as
much as other colours. Maybe I'll go.
Maybe I'll switch to Sonic Prey. Championship White.
Great. Well, boring.
What's boring? But it's not a boring white
damn. It, I mean championship.
What? I know it's the colour, but it's
a fucking white Honda hatch. Come on, it's not.
It is a very interesting white. It's a, it's a.
It's not just any normal white, it's.
Championship. Why are you hearing yourself?
It's why. Isn't it is an interesting one,
so I'm. Just seeing the colour in the
flesh and driven it I think. I've seen it in the flesh.
It's what? It is not just what it is.
Championship white Christian, respect your mom shows the white. Did she not marry?
She did. She did what she wanted blue,
but we're the only market I think that's offered that cars offered we. Look, look.
Look, that's why we discussing Australian market.
If blue is on the table, yeah, they'd be.
Different space, I reckon it will be available.
I'm amazed that's not. I'd go the blue.
I like the blue and the old type air.
That was fantastic blue. So we're all in type bars then
for the Honda one, what's the next brand?
Well, hang on a minute, I was finished.
I actually quite liked the new Accord, even though it's.
Having that you, you're going that over a type R, are you?
No, I'm just saying I'm gonna give some credit to the newer court. I I think the I think the
infotainment with the new Google, you know, platform thing that they've got going. It looks really, really well.
It looks very kind of V wish in terms of the screen layout with the maps and everything. I can't believe I'm saying that.
That's blasphemy. But yeah, so there are
definitely going to type. But if it wasn't a type it would
probably be the Accord or the the new CRV which I don't mind after driving one. If I was in the Type R I'd be in
a crystal blue icon. That's a brilliant package too.
Brilliant drivetrain, panoramic roof.
The only civic and and is in the range against the panoramic roof. What are they rated at?
4.2 litres per 100K or something.
That's. Pretty good.
And when they came out at 55 grand, it was like 55 grand.
But everything's expensive. Anything hybrid with hybrid
batch now is crazy prices. So as a as an everyday package,
I think, I think that takes a lot of beating.
They're very handsome cow like I've seen a few.
There's a few getting around if he's getting around now and they look good like that. They've they've got they've got
a nice presence on them. Like I'm talking about non type
R models, like they're actually they look really, really good.
And yeah, you're right, it's a good package.
It's the 1st, the 1st, not the first.
It's one of the few Hondas that is on point for stance.
The the, the offset of the the rims is really good.
The the yellow is a good looking, easy to clean suit the car, fill the wheel arches beautifully.
So they've actually got that right.
And sometimes a lot of OEM manufacturers struggle with getting the wheel fitment right. I forward with the AU series,
one that was a horrible horrible horrible.
TV in Commodore executive with the 14 inch reports and the and the plastic and the smooth plastic hubcaps.
They were very futuristic at the time.
No, they weren't. They look daggy.
They look like a shopping trolley wheel had been bolted onto a car. It was stupid.
I thought they looked futuristic.
You were young. Yes.
So so we're all agreeing Honda type R, if not we the Civic like just the standard civic would be it would be a good option.
Next is Nissan. Their current range involves the
joke. I mean, sorry.
Duke Kashkai X trail, Pathfinder patrol, Navara, Leaf and Zia.
I believe that's their full race.
This is their full range. Yeah, that is their full range.
No longer GTR doesn't exist anymore in Australia's market.
I think you can still work in some markets.
They once were super proud of that.
The fact they were the had Australia's this range of issues, which is nothing to be proud of, but so they've still got some, you know, some decent stuff in there.
Where is your money going? If you had to buy Tennessee
today, what would you recommend people to buy?
If you're out of out of that list, if you had to recommend a few to buy, what would? What would you?
What would you pick? Listen, Zed.
See, I was gonna say Zed, but with the Thai bar, I can realistically, if I had that spending power, that'd be a card seriously considered. And I did seriously consider at
one point the Zed. I feel you're not getting enough
work for the money. OK, It's, it's just too highly
priced. That's 75.
Are they? Well, they're more, I think. 86
or something though. Yeah, I'll tell you for the for
Jesus at my sister location. Give me a SEC.
No, their website doesn't put up a price. $102,000 for the Nismo
or 8363 for the coupe. So if you send one, it's 83363,
yes. Interesting that is your, uh,
that is that is that is your set.
Very pricey car. Very.
I was also gonna push for the patrol just because they've always looked cool, especially the the current generation.
They they look beastly and they come with the V8.
Then I checked the price and they start at $96,000.
Yeah, I don't feel comfortable spending that on a patrol.
It's it's it's it is quite hard to recommend a Nissan but this may go against a lot of you but I'm going to recommend the Cash Kai with the EPEL. Have you guys heard much about
the EPR engines? Yep.
Yeah, it's it's a relatively interesting concept where you're not using the engine to power the car at all, whereas a lot of hybrids are. The engine is specifically
providing power to an electric motor and that's and also charging batteries. They claim it's far more
efficient that way. So I think, I feel it's a new, I
guess way or direction for the hybrids to go.
Yeah, but it's not that more economical.
It's not terribly more economical, no, But it's also I guess starting out because my interest in the EPA really comes from a company called Edison Motors in BC, Canada.
They doing the system with trucks, so they get like cat engines, their diesel, they fit them into the front of the truck. Again, they just used as
generators to power electric motors and charge batteries.
And the idea is that because the CAT engine can run at its optimal RPM the whole time, it's a lot more fuel efficient.
And like we're efficient and it's they, they use cases specifically log trucks, which go uphill, empty and then downhill with the logs. So they actually, you know,
charge their batteries just purely with the logs and the gravitational potential energy. Yeah.
So it's a cool system. I think it has future potential
but like out of the range again there's so much overpriced stuff Again. Honda already has relatively
good cars we could consider, so out of the ones I'd recommend for Nissan is just probably the cash card in the E power.
So, so you're saying the power, the end is just that idle or like 1000 RPM when you're driving it the whole time and then it's using electrics like the electric motor to spin the wheels essentially? OK, that's interesting.
It it just, it just confounds me.
I would have thought they could have put a much smaller engine in and, and you know, like a A2 cylinder even, or a, a engine to, to actually just act as a generator to, to run an electric motor. I, I just don't see why it's
still rated at four or five litres per 100K.
I would have thought it should, I think the Mitsubishi Outlander, it's got a similar setup in one of their plug-in hybrids and that's rated it, you know, one or two litres per 100K's. I mean, I don't see why the
Nissan comes in so high. Yeah, that is interesting
because it says it's a, it's a threesome, the turbocharged petrol, I don't even know why needs to be turbocharged to run electricity to power the system. So basically that is.
Yeah, that's quite interesting. I think it's a similar system to
what the Holden Volt used too when that was released for 5 minutes about a decade ago. But the the vote like you could,
you could run purely on eBay, like the the IT was more of a plug in kind of eBay, I believe. And then and then you could just
run on the petrol engine if you needed to if you didn't have it charged. So this is this.
This seems to be like a full electric, just electric motor and. Then yeah.
I think. It's better on the on the
smaller hatchbacks. This E power how I've.
Mentioned the note and stuff. Like that, Yeah, it just works
better. I mean people are getting 809
hundred keys out of a tank which is which is worthwhile just in smaller cars. So and I think the three
cylinder, 3 cylinder engine pretty easy to maintain and look after. It's just replacing the battery
at some point. I don't know how long they last
or anything yet because people are still running I might think.
Anyone changed them yet? I'm in a Facebook group and I
haven't read anything about people changing them yet so.
It's a bit weird though because like it isn't that similar to how they had it in the the range extender on the I3 when it came out. Yeah, the I Threes were always
driven by the battery, Yeah, that's what drove the wheels.
But the all the range extender would do is, yeah, a little 600CC petrol motor that would keep the battery at a certain point, you know, it wouldn't, it would keep it at a, at a, at a constant charge. So it wouldn't charge it up, you
know, you're not sitting there running the petrol motor charging the battery, but it would stop it going lower sort of thing. So as long as you had fuel, you
could continue running? Yeah, the little the little
extender would kick in and out and keep the battery charged.
So it's not like a similar thing as to what this isn't like it's yeah. It sounds like it.
So, so do these, do these motors, I don't wanna do that.
They kick in and out or are they, or are they kind of just like a yeah, you know, it is what it is.
So it's it runs full time. So I'm not too sure.
That'll be interesting to find. Out the I threes never ran full
time. It was designed to be if you've
got plenty of battery juice that's running pure battery, you know there's you don't hear a peep from the motor at all.
If you're going down a big hill in the battery charges up because you're on the brakes for half an hour great.
You know you don't need the the range extender, but it was just that if the battery got to a critical point, the little petrol. But it would kick in and and.
Stop you grinding to a halt on the side of the road.
But it's not the petrol motor driving the wheels, it's the petrol motor keeping the battery.
Charged. To a point and that drops.
Yeah, this sounds like with the with the E power notes, because I saw a YouTube video of a guy that took one to the track for a bit of fun in Sydney around the track there.
And I think it did one lap and a bit before the battery was completely out and there was just no power at all down the street. You just called you just passing
him so because there's just not enough to to keep it charged.
But he said, well, it had charges a lot of fun.
But yeah. And then when you lose it all,
you got that engine running all the time to try and keep power into that battery and you lose quite a lot of power.
I guess probably they went with the three.
Girl, sorry man. It was like accordingly, and
this is documentation, the engine basically runs when it needs to because there is a battery pack as well and it kind of keeps battery pack topped up so it's not running constantly.
And they're saving on the idea that you don't need a transmission because the electric motors are, I guess, strict driving the wheels. Because of how you gonna say, I
guess that's why they got a three cylinder there, just to give it enough juice because it is a big car, especially if you know to keep it, you know, to keep it powered.
It probably wouldn't produce another juice from A2 cylinder engine. But yeah, it's interesting.
It's an interesting way of doing it.
I think the the actual engine itself produced 110 kilowatts and the electric drive system produces 150 kilowatts.
So I guess if you want that full power on tap, you have to have the batteries at some state of charge and be using all the engine power in some combination.
Surprise, you probably run out of all batteries, and you probably don't get you could probably only get whatever the engine can provide into your electric power.
Yeah. But like you kind of think
that'd be heavy on alternators and things like that to keep things charged. Like it would have to be real
heavy on all that sort of stuff, unless it's like, unless it's like a, you know, it's generating with through a belt or something. I I'm I'm actually really keen
to read how that how it all works would be.
How? Not 100% sure.
But like I also learned that in the whole research, like diesel train engines, they use a similar system.
It's like the actual diesel engine that's running the train wheels. It's electric.
And the the the diesel engine is also just powering the electrical system. Yeah, well, that is true.
So if anyone from Nissan's listening and they want to give them cut talk with many JA 5 for 12 months for an extended Rd test, I think we could all have a go and pass pass an opinion on it after that. Yeah, absolutely.
That should be better long enough.
Yeah. Any other manufacturers?
Mitsubishi, if you wanna get in on this, you know.
Yeah. Sure.
Testimony back to back. You can stay away.
Yeah, we'll borrow Tesla too, you know, or a Haval and, you know, a bit of everything but you.
Know we're still waiting for Haval away.
Why not Cherry too? Throw them, yeah.
Unless they break their their rear axle like Ed showed me the other night. You are out.
Like it was welded by two little pinch wells.
It was terrible. What kind of designs that?
Anyway, moving on. So, alright, so if we had to
recommend Kashkai and well and you said no to the ZLM.
You know, I'm gonna say no to the I just don't feel it's worth the money. Edward Bunting.
Yeah, I'm going to Z. No I mean you.
You're a sad guy now. You drive a you drive a 300ZX
lol. Yeah, that's right.
I'm really into Z at the moment. Nice.
Yeah, Zed, man. David Fritz.
Yeah, there's some. There's some a lot there.
See patrol David, you know, Nice.
Good. Yeah.
Yeah, but the the patrol you want isn't the base model.
So you want one that's 111 grand?
Yeah, you want the big, the big birther.
Let's see, does David Prince look like a Saudi Prince?
OHS. He's got it.
They have beards. They do.
Yeah, they shave off the moustache.
Usually. Go on the the hat and then he's
he's good to go. I look like they're naked, but
is adequate. People like you know David.
It could be what? An albino patrol driver.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. I can I can teach you how to
speak Arabic. Alright, I've got you back.
OK, but the the you know. It's gonna be a patrol then,
obviously, yeah. Well, they, they are expensive
to run like, you know, they're, they're not, they drink fuel really. Heavily, yeah.
Yeah, because it's so heavy too. Good.
They do sound good. That's why ACV with Saudi
Prince, cause you be able to afford to fuel it and they all and they all drive them over there anyway.
So yeah, like in the cost. 298 kilowatts.
But I think we need to check. This V8 into some smaller.
If that video was in a Z, that'd be fun, alright.
And that that would be a really interesting kind of concept, I think. That in the Duke.
Make it even more. Make it even more.
But they did put the GTR drivetrain in a Duke which is which is I think they sold Duggars like a few of them sold.
They sold drinks here. That was a line for one.
Scotty, what are you? Talking about I should have put
that V8 in the Altima. Ohhhhh, yeah, that would have
been what would have been perfect, would have chose that.
Scotty. My pick is easiest Z, Got to see
the Nismo and the base model in person and they both look good.
Did you look good? Look very nice in person.
I did like the launch edition in the in the the yellow sort of lemony yellow that was. I like the nod to the heritage
of the two 40s that way. Yeah, that was cool.
And I like the rear tail lights as a nod to the Z30 twos.
I think that they look really, really cool.
Well then what was the next brand?
Elam. MG.
MG Which? Some people still unfortunately
assume they are buying a British manufactured car or at least a British companies car. Those some people probably
wouldn't be listening to this podcast.
Though no. Alright, so their range consists
of the MG4 electric X power, the MG4 electric, the MG5, the MG ZS EV, the MGH plus EV, the MG3MG ZS non EV, the MGST ZST and the MGS HHS. So they've got three full
electric cars in their lineup and the rest is pretty much as it is. They got a sedan in the MG5,
they got an MG3 small hatch, and there was a SUV.
Gentlemen. Well, what interests you in
their range? An MG3 order because I think
that's the cheapest car they've got.
It is. Cheap.
I'd buy that and then crashed into the wall so I don't drive and I'll be out of the least amount of money possible.
It's expensive EV they do. Well, well, the MG3 just for
just for your, your, your information, uh, alum starts at 18 and Annie and ends at 19990 and you get it is the, you get the Australia's best selling light hatchback that is, that is the MG3. So.
That may or may not leave you stranded on the side of the road. I also find that there the
advertisements quite funny because they've got them, you know, playing, you know Apple with Apple CarPlay and they're playing songs by T Pain, who wasn't big since about 20 years ago, which is just just which is quite interesting.
So shut the pen. I'm big fan the the one I think
you're you're offered Edward would be the MG4X power, which is the electric Yeah, I hi winning one of those.
It is blistering really quick, like it's a quick, quick car.
320 kilowatts of power and 600 Newton metres of torque.
Hmm, that's quite a lot. Yeah, it's it is a lot.
And you feel it too when it when Riz brought one round once and and he's like, oh, I've got this for the weekend.
You wanna go? I'm like sure.
Yeah, quick, really quick. Felt OK actually felt quite well
built. I don't know if it's a good long
distance car, especially with the seats.
I just never felt comfortable in the in the Zeus is ones I drove that time. I still reckon that's the worst
car I've driven, but that is yeah, that was that was that and it starts at at 59990 drive away.
No more Edward Bunting. You can.
You can have one of those. OK, not bad. 60 grand for him.
That's like I looked at the figures are great, all the figures, the power, you know, the the Rangers were 400 K's even the price. But again, as, as David said, 60
grand on MG, like yeah, yeah. Well, I mean the MG4 like it,
it's, you know, car sales 2/20/23 car of the year winner.
So you know, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's shaking up and there's a few on the road and a few people are really happy with them so. Sort of funky edgy looking
pointy ones. That's the one, yeah.
And they're only available electric, then there's no petrol powered. Version correct they are.
They are an electric early here. You're 60.
Grand. Well, 60 grand for the for the X
power, the cheaper one, I'll tell you the MG4 electric just the non X power, the non high performance one.
I think it's a bit cheaper. That one starts at 39990.
OK, so yeah, so but it's nowhere near as as quickly as the other one, but lots of wins, lots of awards, you know, it seems to be a best value inverted commas car.
So yeah, that's definitely I can see why people are people are buying them at the moment. Scotty, are you on the same
pedal with that? But they advertise this MG
charge hub to go with it. Does that come?
With the car, you gotta buy that separate.
Probably separate. It's probably their
recommendation of what you get, I reckon.
Hmm. But just just on that, the MG5
sedan got a zero star crash test rating.
Just, you know. Just putting it out there.
Just put it out there it. Needs to be said.
I feel like MG five, yeah. Ohhhhh yeah, obviously.
Remember. Crush tasting are I guess
criteria get more and more stringent over time, but even the Mustang managed like A2 didn't it back in the day.
So yeah, just just to admit that to somebody today talking about the the N1 and being stopped because it's unsafe, how how does a car with A0 crash test rating is how does that able to be sold in Australia? It's called scare tactics.
David Prince. The reason why they don't want
your cars here, that's exactly the reason why there there is a there's a person that needs to justify their job.
I'm in a bit of a mood today and they're like, well, well, look at each cake. Cars are so small, we're not
bringing them into Australia. Hence the reason why they've
done this to you, my friend. No, what's what's realistically
happening is somebody has called out the lack of manhood in this person who's probably been driving some kind of big old SUV and they've probably been driving K car and they all you know, every other K car driver suffering.
That dude, dude, he, he, he drives a big F-350 and, and is like, it was like, oh, this is a man's car.
Even though decapitated Charles, if he hit it, you know, hit him head on. Quite literally just yeah, yeah,
yeah. I would probably go the MG 5
cause at least when I know I crash I'll die.
Avoid future embarrassment. Yeah, yeah.
No, I I'd, you know, if I I would probably go there.
MG4 electric X power. I mean, why not?
Yes, you have guys and just go really fast in it and.
Hope for the best. Yeah, hopefully the breaks are
decent. I don't know.
I don't know what brand breaks they use.
It doesn't say they've just got MG written on them so.
Have you seen the, there's been a few reports from one of the the China Insider channels? There's actually a number of EVs
that are being domestically sold there that are catching a bit of fire, getting a little hot, you know?
Yeah. So again, my confidence isn't
that high. It may sound like I'm being.
Mean mine out and I'm being mean.
But I feel like my meanness is justified.
So I'm, I'm sticking with the, the, the cheapest model I can, so I can crash it and then leave it and then, you know, yeah, at least my losses will be minimal. They have got the updated
version of that coming very soon.
We are also joined by Chad who just joined us.
How are you, Chad? How my headset news?
Sorry mate. That's what I do.
Good to see you too mate. How's everything going?
Yeah, good. Just coming off a big week of
being sick and my voice might sound a little bit.
We can hear. Yeah, there you go.
No good. It's working not not much has
happened. You came at a good time, you get
to choose an MG. Yeah, we came across Haiti on
MG. This company has a pool to bring
out a sports car that's gonna cost $100,000 just.
Anyways, sorry, something that they're aiming for.
The yeah, yeah, yeah, that's right.
Yeah. Wow, OK, sure.
Do I have to choose a new one? Yeah.
What would you buy from the? Company not talking GB's here.
Gotcha. Just for context, I chose that
I'd buy the cheapest one in, crash it so I don't have to drive it anymore. So you that is a valid option
just. Yeah, very nice.
Would you not rather buy a more expensive one, crash it, and then take that out of circulation as well?
But I might be out of more money, that's the other thing.
That's true. That's another point.
Yeah, man, not literally. None of them appeal to me in any
way whatsoever. I kind of I I'd like to look of
the MG. Is it the four?
That's like a wedge shaped thing.
Yeah, that's. That's the one we all, we all
agree. That's kind.
Of I mean, is there anything that is the only cool thing they make right? And that in a little electric is
kind of cool, even though it's got those fake brake calliper covers and stuff. But you know, I guess that if,
if, if you're gonna put a gun to my head and say, drive an MJ.
How do you say I'm gonna put a gun to my head and say driving MG, I'll say pull the trigger? My God.
What's the next brand element I I'd?
Love if we get like sponsored by review tomorrow, we're like, oh man, check out the MG. You know, it's, it's really.
Great. I absolutely love it.
It's the best car ever. The final, Excuse me, the final
car brand we had on the list was Subaru.
Subaru So Subaru's current lineup, guys?
Have they brought out that $90,000 V yet?
Soltera. Solitaria.
They have I think. It looks like it.
I can see it in the lineup. The BRZ for seven XYZ.
The Toyota is out, so I'm guessing the salt here is out too. Be interesting to see.
So they've got the cross track, the all new Soltera, which is a full electric and the Forester and the Outback, the Impreza, the WRX. There were sports waggon and
they've still got for some reason on their website, the WRX STI. I don't know why.
They just like to show off. Like remember we had this bad.
So are we felt? It says this isn't that we fail.
Well, a legend as a new era of performance acceleration looms on the horizon. So anyway, that is there, that
is their current their current lineup.
Gentlemen, what would you look at and what and why?
I think BZ is probably one of the top picks because you know, it's a nice little sports car. I would also go WR X.
They're not my favourite look and shape for the WRX, but I would go with WX. You did go WR X, didn't you
Ellen? I mean yes, but I got the.
Hang on, don't you own one of? Those we talk about, the new
ones talk about. Yeah, the new one of them.
It's not the same anymore, Ed. Alright.
It doesn't even sound the same. Do they still make an STR WRX?
They do not. They just make the DBX with an
FA24 and it's got equal length headers so it sounds like a fart. But the good news is you can
change it to unequal length headers and tune it and it sounds perfect. So for that reason, I probably,
I would put a WRX and BZ as you know, my top pick cars if I was in my 60s across track would not be bad because it's easier to get in and out of. You know, I appreciate that.
I think I would appreciate a lot more when I'm older.
When my back hurts, it already hurts, but I'd imagine he's gonna get more and more. It'll only get.
Worse. And that's probably my options.
I think I'm going to go with the WRX waggon, even though we can't get it as a manual here in Australia.
I think there's a few, only few places get it as a as a manual.
It's a, it's a good dog car. You can put the dog in the back
of it. You can load it up and you know,
it's it's handy being a waggon and still kind of like and if you got a TS, you get all the adjustable suspension and stuff, which is which is weird that they offer that the TS model, but they don't offer it in a manual, even on these standard WREX, you know, the sedan. So fun fact, they only offer the
WRX manual in like the lower spec version of the lyrics because the CBT helps helps all with passenger not passenger road assistance packages and of safety and all that so.
I think the club spec special editions, they were manipular.
Yeah, it is. OK.
Yeah, yeah. Yeah, I can see it now.
But that's a limited time. Consumption sports waggons.
So, yeah, so that's what I'd pick the 2000 and and for an old drive club spec manual, it's 58. I think that's your top, top,
top of the range. That and then the sports
waggons. They they're a lot more money
actually for a for a TS top of the range.
You looking at 65,000 So quickly getting getting up there these days, the the old Subaru waggon WRX waggons.
But what else General, what would you take?
David Singers. Alan's already picked
Sportwagen. Yeah, nice little sporty waggon
anymore. So you've gotta honour it.
People don't buy them that they're not gonna make them, are they? No, Edward.
Think I'll just go off Forrester.
Makes sensible. Yeah, sometimes I'm quite
sensible. I think they like hybrid forest
and now isn't. There there is an ex boxer, but
I think Edward likes being a lesbian soccer mom like I was So so that's a it's it's OK, Edward, I've been there.
I don't, I don't know, it's like.
I have to issue a correction. I'll take one.
I have to issue a correction. The software is not close to
$90,000. It's a measly $75,000 drive
away. What a bug, ladies.
You know I was looking at the WRX's in the club spec 1 bit disappointed on the power output.
There are only 202 kilowatts and 350 Newton metres.
It's no more than what you're driving now.
My blades got more. Yeah, it does.
Does my blades got more like, what the hell?
So that's a little bit disappointing.
The positive is again the FA20 fours do take pretty good to tuning. They do, yeah.
That's that's added expense so. Anyway, shouldn't have to.
You shouldn't have to. Choose shouldn't.
You shouldn't have to tune in and you should have to destroy your warranty. Yeah.
But. Sorry for.
Putting the club spec it should already be beefed up a bit.
All I've done is added different wheels and by looks at some tune suspension. Back in the good old days, you
wanted to beefed up you get the STI, but here we are Subaru, here we. Are yeah, so the clubs spec
should be a bit more beefed up, maybe just don't know, a little bit more power or something, not just a number and stitching inside the car and then one inch bigger wheels and tune suspension height when they use that word.
I drove the sports waggon probably a couple of months ago and like sports are going to be RX at TS with the adjustable suspension was quite good, but the IT just, it didn't feel quick. It just felt like it felt, you
know, moved, but it wasn't, it wasn't like, well, like you remember WX voiced opinion TC when the Bruce would come in and yeah, you would be real fun. And I don't know what's killed
all that. It's all these these reviews are
all it's not, it's not a it's not super linear and super, super, super easy to draw. Like that's the whole point of a
WRX. It was supposed to be a bit, a
bit rougher in there. Just take out the scruff of the
neck and you know, bit bit boosty and laggy and and snorty and and that's what made it fun. That's what made, that's what
made those cars feel alive. Maybe a two that doesn't.
Help. Yeah, like that's that's one of
the funniest things about the multi WRX was yeah, you go into a round about, you know, you're in too high of a gear and you're like, Oh no, I'm going to die. The guy's gonna hit me because
I'm not at, you know, getting enough boost and then you build up the boost. You're like, Oh no, I'm going to
die because now I'm going to something in front of me.
That's how it felt. Like happy medium.
Yeah. So, you know, it's it felt kind
of like it felt good to drive like it was a really solid car.
I felt stable and everything as all WX2, but it just it didn't excite me. I was like, oh, I was it was
real as I walked out a lot like it's nice, it goes OK and but it didn't excite me as much as, you know, some other things I've driven. So I was like, oh, OK, that's
not the WREX evolved. What engine is in the
Sportwagen? It should be the same FA 24,
right? Now 24.
Yeah, yeah, it's virtually, it's virtually the same car.
It's just just with a in a waggon body.
And I actually think the waggon looks better than the sedan because it doesn't have that bullshit black cladding around it. It's, it's all painted and it
looks, it looks a lot neater. So there's a guy across the road
from me that's got a blue one and yeah, I've, I've seen it a few times and it's it looks really, really nice.
And it's a TS and what I looked up how much they was like cool.
OK, so yeah, but I big fan. I like I do like it.
I think it's a it's cool that that waggon exists because it doesn't have to exist. But I'm really hoping that they
say let's bring up manual option to Australia and see if that brings up sales because I didn't drive them manual be right.
I drove I drove a CVT one. And yeah, not a fan of the CVT.
But I guess if that's the only option, that's the only option.
Yeah, it's such a missed opportunity.
I have to lean towards the BRZ, I think.
I'm not sure there's anything else in the lineup that's I mean WRX sure, but like you can get a WRX and sit down in a manual.
But I think I'd picked the BRZ with her.
Yeah, just I know it's got an iPhone.
Is there still an FA 2022 later? Oh, so even though he has a 24
now? It's just lacking the turbo.
OK, so big block swapped BRZ, Yeah, cool.
Yeah, I think I'll just go that and then take traction control off and keep it off forever and yeah, have as much fun as possible. Have a good time.
Yeah. Um, so there you have a guy.
Ladies and gentlemen, we listen to our show.
That is our picks from those, from those brands as to what you should buy. You don't agree with us.
It's OK to be wrong. So let's let's.
We've come first at the next meet up.
Exactly right. So I think it's time for the
quiz. And David Prince has written us
a quiz this. Evening.
Do you look out? So they're gonna be really
funnel. Really.
Crickets. We'll see.
Question one How many Hondas have been sold in Australia?
OK, now this 100 question. Are you happy to score, Matthew?
I'm we've got it all ready to go for you.
Mate, awesome. Love your work.
OK, so question one easy one to start off.
Lot of key decided to call in you Ute.
Matthew. Well, I think it got in first, I
think. Tasman.
Indeed, you correct what other brands sold at Tasman in Australia. It was the Austin, Kimberley and
Tasman. That's right, so voted the bonus
point. Went to it as well.
Did you guys just collude over this quiz?
No. We.
No, no. I have not spoken to David in at
least a day. 30 seconds, Tasman and Kimberley.
Say again. What's the difference between
Tasman and? Kimber, the Tasman was the six
cylinder I think. Made you know Ingrid both had
the same engine. The Tasman was the base model on
the Kimberley was the dual headlight.
Well, they both 6 cylinders. Are both X sixes?
Yeah, wow. OK.
So I didn't, I didn't know that, didn't know them.
So for the people that don't actually realise what we're talking about, this was basically the old Austin 1800 that was redesigned in Australia and had a six cylinder engine put southeast twist in the front to compete with the big three.
Oh. Yeah, and didn't it?
Do a good job of that. Didn't actually compete very
well sadly, but yes the Kelly and the Tasman were the the two models available. Would you like a school check?
Yeah, yeah. Score check Ed two, everyone
else 0. Let's go, let's go.
OK, question two. Which manufacturer has today
slashed up to $28,000 of the leftover?
Persia. Incorrect.
Shall I continue? Yeah, continue.
Please the question slash up to $28,000 off the leftover 20/20/2023 stock. Alum.
I think this is cheap, wasn't it?
Correct. Ohe Grand Cherokees or something
went. So so the the Top Model, the
Grand Cherokee L Summit Reserve is now $93,000.
What a bargain. Wow, $1000 taken off the off the
price would. You be.
They must be walking out the door at that.
Lashed out and bought 1 three weeks ago to find that it's now.
I am on that note, I read today Tesla of lopped 5 grand off model 3 and Model Y's. Too nice.
Which I mean, they're now 55K from model Y or a threat like it's getting. I mean, I don't like them, but
it's you can't argue with the value proposition compared to a C Plus or an Audi A4 like it's. I've got to make that.
Just ordered one and he's like, he's like, he ordered the performance for like just under 90 gramme and he's like you can't get that performance in any European car for like less than $200,000. So he's like Yep, I know what
I'm getting. I'm like, fair enough.
Well, my neighbour that's got that Sonic grey Type R that I had a spin in, his wife has ordered a Volvo EX30, which isn't here yet, which is the pure EV I think.
Yeah, yeah. And I said, oh, we'll have to
get the two of them out on Dandenong Road and do a drag.
And then? She said, well, mine's 3.80 to
100 and I googled the Type R and I'm like, you'll thrash him and he's got the Claude pipes and all of sport seats and.
Bullshit and and it's like. The little V Volvo will kill it.
They're actually they are here you they've S Yarra got their demos and they're. Also might be doing it soon then
she's definitely ordered it. Yeah, they're funky looking
things like the MG4. I just don't.
Well, I do understand why they don't do it, but as one leader turbo petrol engine car, that'd be great.
Little runabout maybe stuff just in here.
Let's look at this question. 3. Which two?
Unlikely What? Sorry, There is an unlikely
alliance between two European manufacturers.
Currently, they've joined forces to produce a limited run of Midsummer Barchetta roadsters. Who are the two companies?
Chad. Chad.
Is it Fiat and us our offer man? No, it's not actually once the
manufacturer and ones that design house like I think it's accurate. Hmm.
Matt. Matt.
Your pain. So what's VN Pininfarina?
.5. OK, I'll take it.
I'll take. IT5I won't tell you which which
.5, but which one. Sorry, I'll take it.
What was the name of the car again?
The it's it's a, it is the Midsummer barqueta.
OHS gonna be Volvo and Pen and Frano.
You have had to guess already but and you got the same and Maddie's already got the .515 and Farina so the other .5 all
done. Yeah.
You know. OHS alright alarm and it takes
them. All for Mayo.
Not out for Mayo. European, you said?
I did each time. BMW.
No. My guess is having a Barqueta
summer Miami, whatever it was. My guess will be Audi.
Incorrect, unfortunately. Ed, I'm really disappointed in
you. Is organ and Pininfarina.
Wow. They've created the Midsummer
Barqueta Roadster, which is based on the Morgan +6, and it retails for $380,000. Australian Or are you supposed
to say you're lying? Supposed to go?
What a bargain. What a bargain.
Sorry, what a bargain. I was just thinking, is it
Morgan, a British manufacturer? Well, they European.
No. Well, ever since I left your.
Father breaking like. That shouldn't count.
Gosh, is that the only thing that stopped you pick getting Morgan. Say it otherwise.
I'm missing. I wasn't going to get it.
Now he's going to call shenanigans.
That's a technicality. I'm going to call shenanigans
when he gets the next one collusion, but that's, you know.
It was a question I would have. Got that right?
No, but then it'll be too obvious, you know you gotta hide. The pollution.
Tax fraud. You don't do it overtly.
OK school check many. School check myself .5 Scotty
and Chad on this yet the score and alum won and Ed on two.
And I can I say very quick story.
It's on, it's on that sort of pathway.
Of course, again, when I was in high school, you do the testing, you know, like they give you those, the, the, the, the statewide, whatever it is. I think it's like NAPLAN now
something, but it was something else back then anyway.
Back in our day. I accidentally had the answer
sheet in the back of my thing and I realised this sort of early on and went, I could get 100% score here.
But then I thought if I just copy the answer, she can get 100%. They're going to think I'm some
special prodigy. They're gonna put me in kind of
accelerated programme or something.
And I'm not accelerated programme material.
So I thought I'll just throw every third one, you know, so, so I was just, you know, not enough.
To go apart and. Yeah, so I passed.
You know, I would have got an OK score on it, but it was like I wasn't some Doogie Howser prodigy, so I thought that would be bad. Wow.
It's you wanna squeeze. Yeah.
Anyway, who knows what I could have been if I'd.
Yeah, I guess. It would have been Prime
Minister right now otherwise. But if anything, it was probably
smarter to do what I did rather than just go copy, copy, copy, copy and get 100%. You know, I thought the next
step ahead, I thought I'll be a prodigy.
I'll be out of my depth. I don't want that.
Too much work. Too 10 once said something like
that song, and I won't hijack the whole thing, but it's like that song. And you know, everybody wants to
rule the world. And I remember the seven year
old, a six year old like hearing that song, Tears For Fears.
I think it is, isn't it? Yeah, yeah, everybody wants to.
And I used to think what a dreadful job.
Imagine response. Who wants to do that?
God. Fun fact, there's a really hot
version of that on YouTube by a guy who plays the dulcimer, which is like a sort of xylophone sort of instrument, OK. And the guy from Tears For Fears
saw it and actually went and recorded it with the playing.
That's cool. That's cool.
OK. Sorry, David, next question?
Question four While on the topic of limited run sports cars, What Car am I so Released in 1986 and manufactured by the company Gaison GASON in Ararat under licence from Australian Classic Cars. I was a replica type of car
based on a 50s design but with modern mechanicals.
Sales didn't set the world on fire sadly and proved to be unprofitable. However, it is still
manufactured today in Malaysia and available in two models of Silverstone and The Gatsby. What am I?
This is the MG um, copy, isn't it?
I don't. Know what's required?
MG TF replica I'm but I don't know what it's called something 2000 or something like I don't know.
I'll, I'll, I'll. Yeah, Ed.
Is it the TD 2000? Actually verbalised a bit much
there, Mattie. I got nothing so I'll be back in
a second. It is the TD 2000.
Don't get .5. .5 point 5.5 you you lid lid it along a path.
OHS. Getting.
So it was called a Gaison GAYS. AISON was the company, but the
car was called the TD 2000. It was basically an MGTD with
Nissan running gear and. Whatever.
Right. Thanks for that question.
It's. Now null and void.
Thanks very much. Can I get the point I knew?
It it was powered by a Bluebird Twinspark.
Engine. Yeah, that's right.
Yeah, Wow. From the factory and now it's
about actually the the new cars manufactured in Malaysia are powered by three S Fe Toyota engine which gives it improved drivability after a Bluebird engine who's what a surprise who. Would have thought.
Um, yeah, so they're pretty cool.
They look, I mean, they look like an old TV 2000 that's basically from the 50s. That's what basically what
they're based on, but with better wheels and they look pretty tough. Not bad thing.
There's a couple for sale in Australia at the moment. 5
Question 5 What is the latest popular new car available in Australia to be released as a limited run of 500 heritage editions. Matthew.
Matthew. That would be the the Jimmy.
More information required please.
The Suzuki Jimmy Heritage. Ed Suzuki, Jimny Lite Heritage.
Incorrect it. Chad.
Chad. Is it the long wheelbase?
5 door chimney. Technically is you correct,
That's the Jimmy Excel Heritage Edition.
That's what they. Called the long wheel base one.
There's your point, Chad. .5 all around.
Score check 25 points to all these bonus points.
That scary question #6 BMW had teased the 2025 release of two new closely related performance models.
What are they? Matthew Ugly one, an uglier 2.
Gosh. Needs to be said.
Needs to be said. Have they gone back to the
Beaver Teeth like? Called Patty and Selma.
Captain Kim. I don't know what the hell
they're doing next year. They teased the release of these
two cars. Well, I haven't seen the tease.
OK, well, you haven't been. Looking I'll have a proper guess
that the last guest was a bit harsh, but true.
The new M4 and M3. Incorrect OHS.
Callum is the new M4M5. I'll give you .5.
Yeah, no closely related performance models.
Hmm. Scotty, Scotty, Scotty.
Couldn't even guess. OK, it is the M5 and the M5
touring. Ohio.
Two touring next year. Touring.
You. Score check Scotty get the score
Chatton one alarm on 1.5, myself on one and add on two currently.
Winning one game, anyone? Game still anyone's game just.
Quickly between the M5 and M5 Touring second one that's a waggon OK very good so you can't go on tour on this day at sedan they call you up and they stop the car immediately that's.
Right, question seven. What have just released the 11th
generation of their record sedan?
How much is it closest to to the dollar?
Matthew, Dad. Has to go.
Now you can go chat. 65,000. 65. 65, says Chad. 76,000. 7076
thousand, says Ed. I'm gonna go.
OK 69990. 699990 yeah, I'm gonna go and say is this what they
started or is this? One Model, 1 price.
OK, I'm going to go 78,000. 78 Penny.
OK, tell him. See, I actually looked this up
when we were discussing the cars.
Of course you did. You're not.
You're not going to, you're going to excuse yourself from this one because. No, no, I did not know what the
quiz would be. No.
Yeah, I'm still in. I believe it was 64990.
Yeah, it is 64990 because it looked well.
Then. Bonus question, wasn't part of
the quiz. Good.
Question. Bonus question.
What doesn't it have? Which is a bit amazing and.
Horrifying. Chad.
'S. Spare tyre?
Oh yeah? Well, that goes without saying
now. Ed.
Edd. Doesn't have rear parking
sensors. No, doesn't have real parking
sensors. That's not what I was looking
for that. Well then that's correct one
point. And you said there's no
collusion going on? Collusion.
That's what I said. This said somewhat we're looking
for. That's not the answer to the
question. That I ask alum.
OK. Alan, it doesn't have a non
hybrid engine. She doesn't only one model.
That's hard. That's horrifying to me.
You know, the fact that you can only get something environmentally friendly? Yeah, How could?
Scott. Scott.
Doesn't have an R version, no type R.
No, that's that is true. But it's not.
That's not. That's not.
Terrible. It's doesn't have a sunroof.
It does have it does have a panoramic sunroof.
That's why I chose as my pick of Honda.
That's everybody. It doesn't have heated seats.
Huh, that's weird. I have come around to heated
seats. I will say that proudly at this
point. You.
Know experiencing a warm bum you know in.
Open like someone that actually has heated seats in the.
Four 4° weather you press that button and you know.
It falls into the category of someone didn't tick the box.
So the Australian cars were built without heated seats.
Heated seats everywhere else. They probably think we live in a
hot climate and we don't need them.
No, it's not that they didn't tick the box.
Honda got a bit of a habit of doing that.
Sorry, Christina, are you listening?
But back when the eggs release, they didn't actually tick the box for the soundproofing. Yeah, that we that most the MD's
before it had. So all the press cards arrived
and they were noises or get out and copped an absolute shellacking from the journalists because they didn't have the right soundproofing in them. But that was rectified direct
quickly. But it's OHK and and the current
shape Civic came in without parking sensors either.
That was. Like, oh really?
Wow. 4047 too, when they were released or something and.
Then they do this mistake like when you be checking and double checking this. Do you think you would think?
Anyway, there you go, question 8, where Esther Martin are about to launch a new Vantage. What is controversial about it?
Scott. Scott.
No V8. I'm sorry, would you like to
rethink that answer on on the money?
But that's not the right answer. It's like hybrid electric.
That's incorrect, Alan. I think it's got turbo's though.
That's not what is what is controversial.
About it, isn't it? I would say it's controversial.
I said turbos. It's a three cylinder.
What leader? It's a Ford Fiesta St.
Well then it's got the front grill of the whole day.
Well, jeez. So the new Vantage.
Is the Aston Martin Vantage. What do you think?
Usually is powers the advantage. It's always a VA, but the fact
that it's not a V8. Umm, that's usually 12.
OK. Yeah, there.
B12 shot of B12. And there you go.
So David said that Scotty was on the money with no something.
Well, it wasn't. Yeah.
But what is controversial about it is beside the fact that it is actually a B8, not a B12, is the supplier.
Hmm, so the bonus question was who?
Who, where? Where is it sauced?
Matthew, is that going to be from Sure Thing?
Who makes a V12? Sort of a talk so.
It'll be Mercedes with the with the the AMG.
AMG full W. AMG 4 litre twin turbo V8
producing 600 kilos to power. That's a lot of power.
Yeah, yeah. Wasn't it just too Mondeo
engines stuck together and they made the V8V12?
That's what it was, yeah. Genuine.
All those guys with the leather patches on their elbows will be absolutely quaking in their in their shoes I think then.
How dare you call our Caramon Gaol.
Grilled driving a Mercedes. Those damn Germans.
Question 9. Based on the losses posted by
its Model E division, how much is it estimated that Ford is losing on each EV it sells globally?
Matthew. Matthew.
I think it was $20,000 on each car they've sold.
Someone already? OK, well, I'm well away. $10,000
a car. No.
You don't question. 2:32. Yeah, we'll go places 2.
August 30. 232, yeah. Date 20. 8:20 Joe Chen. 28. 28.
Yeah. Alan. 45,000.
Proof, I said. I said 20.
You said 20. Sorry, I've got I've got you in
the wrong spot. Yep.
Yep. Alam is closest.
It's reported it's $100,000 American per car.
More than. The losses posted by the E
division model, added Pigeon. Oh my.
God, yeah, like, like, but the cars aren't even worth that much. Like, how are they losing?
How is it from the R&D and stuff?
They're not selling them there. It would appear to be what it.
This is specifically the marquee.
Well, they have, they have a model E division.
So I think I'm, I'm not sure if there is another electric car they're trying to work in in the States.
So if you're a full literary like Puma runescape size.
That's a hybrid or electric or something.
Is the F150 lightning separate? Yeah, so they've got 150 lining,
they got Pumer Electric, they've got um.
They would all be part of the division, so.
Yeah, Mark. It makes sense.
Yeah. Hopefully it's all from the
market. They deserve that.
But the the transit, the transit, transit.
Ohe yeah, yeah, I. Just transit.
That's just been announced. The price has just been
announced for that. I saw on on something this
afternoon and it's $99,000 I think 9090 seven 99,000 just under 100 grand for an electric transit.
That's a lot of money. Escuche.
School check. Chad 1, Edward two alarm on 3.5
ohm myself on two and Scotty get the score.
Come on, Scotty, come on. You won last week.
What's going on? It's just Dave's questions.
He's risking his laurels. Never again.
Again, what language? Stop doing the questions.
What language do you do the kids learn at your school?
Italian. Ohk.
OK, here we go. Get ready.
You ready with your visa? I'm ready.
OK, well, Tobin. Looking at the cosy cosy.
Question 10 Ferrari is the latest manufacturer to launch an SUV. What is it called and what does
it mean? I can't remember what it was.
All our members. That looks like the Mazda.
Looks like a six there. Yeah, it looks 630.
Yeah. That's all.
I remember. Sorry, Mr Ferrari, but it does.
Uh, even in the red? Looks like soul red now too.
It's quite funny. I'm.
Not just a Mazda then. I think we we can't confirm
what, deny that. Mazda.
Especially what's the last one that they did that looked like a master too? There was another one?
No, I can't think. Yeah, well.
I don't know what it's called in a tally like the actual name of the model, but it's supposed to mean like thoroughbred, right?
Like pure blooded. Oh, which is it?
It's it. It implies the same thing,
doesn't? Mean you can't keep 2 answers to
the. One pure blood and you're only.
Giving half a quest, half the answer.
You're pure blooded. It is.
That this .5. .5 Thank you. Don't know the actual name.
It's something Italian. Scotty.
Come on, come on, think of pure blooded.
No. Anyone.
Anyone. Anyone Matt something?
Like wine, right? Like.
The yeah, I was gonna say, I was gonna say vino, vino Rosso or something. I don't know.
What is it that's really worth? Is it pure in Italian or
something? Red wine.
It's anyway. That's what I was thinking of
Sangria. Yeah, that's right.
Well that's why it's called sangria because it's the colour of blood. Polo is pure, Sangui is blood
and it was called that purely to stick it to Lamborghini because their SUV is pure blood, a thoroughbred as you said, whereas Lamborghinis SUV the Urus is basically.
Um. I'm sort of infection.
You 7 interest through disco or right or something?
It's in drag. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
So it's it's basically I mean that uses the Audi platform.
So whereas Ferrari said no, no, no, we don't use it another makers platform, we're. Mean, I feel like if you made
the SUV as like a super car maker, you've already lost, you know? Well.
Porsche fighting a war that's not NATO, naturally forward.
The way you gotta think of it is they've gotta make these SUV so they can. Pay the bills.
Like awesome super. Covers, yeah.
There is strong contention that Porsche wouldn't be a manufacturer still going if it wasn't for the KN so.
For the Macan. Or the Macan well then only came
after the KNK. Yeah, you've seen how cheap old
cans are now cause she had made in the bill you could get for the. Cost of that one for the grand.
Grand. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Just ask Rob who's who had one on this show he bought from the auctions. Lucky he bought the the optional
warranty for the year he had. It was in the shop mall.
It the whole HVAC system failed the transmission failed the everything, everything failed like he's like that would look it probably had 20 something $1000 worth of work for like A7 or $8000 car. He paid for it, so in, in in the
space of a year, so. We needed that come out.
Was mid 2000s wasn't it? So I thought, I thought, I
thought it was earlier it really, really early 2000. 02/03
something. So there were two.
OK, there are 20 year old Canadians getting around.
Cause I, I saw like one of the, the very first generation K and somebody driving around, I'm like, oh, I wonder what's wrong with it? Everything.
Yes, there's one that comes into the Porsche Centre and has been serviced from you by the Perth Pusha Centre.
So you can imagine what they've spent on maintenance over the years. But The thing is beautiful and
the owner just absolutely loves it to bits.
So I'm sure if they service properly and cars like that, obviously as the prices drop and they become open and available to another demographic of population, you know, all that sort of thing suffers and they're not maintained perhaps as per the manufacturer recommend.
So that's obviously when a lot of the problems started rising.
Well the coins are ones that people in the states like basically put giant like lift kits in them and start taking them off road. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Quite capable apparently with the yeah, like they're all wheel drive system. I think I like the trans
Siberian cars and that sort of thing out there.
Yeah. Jacked up ones, yeah.
Yeah, they're doing so far so. My neighbour.
Lady is it alum. So score check, Scotty 0, Chad
one added myself onto each and tonight's winner, who complained of collusion and shenanigans is is Alan who on four.
Well done. Turns out the collusion was me
all along. Yeah.
I wonder, I think hearing. Yeah.
We're playing golf rules. Playing golf rules.
Let's go, let's go. I mean, even we're playing golf
rules. I feel like Chad would win
because you have to take a stroke.
Yeah, you know, so. If you score 0, that means you
haven't taken any any puts at all.
Yeah, perfect. Can't get.
The ball just like leaves the tea.
I made, I made par. That's it.
Zero. I made par.
I haven't gone, you know, I haven't gone into the minuses or anything. He didn't buy it or anything.
I I finished on zero path. Gentleman, that was the that was
the. Thanks for doing the quiz,
David. It was a good quiz.
Hard questions. The collusion is real between
you and Alan. I I knew you guys were friends,
but I didn't realise. I didn't realise.
I had everyone looking at Ed. You did.
It wasn't me. Famous words by Shaggy, now
incorporated by Demon Prince. I think that's a podcast.
Thank you and goodbye. Yep.
Thank you very much guys. Edward Punching and David
Prince, your latest episode is great of your of your podcast.
What is your podcast called? It's called Auto Retro, where we
talk to guests about the cars of their lives.
You can find it on Spotify and E YouTube and other streaming services. Yes, I got a sneaky mentioned a
couple of times in it. So I was.
I was. Pretty.
Yeah, You can tell that we were thinking of you when we were recording it. And David Price, I want to say,
you know, you are you were very switched on because the guy was like, it's the BA typhoon I had and and then you were like no, BA2BA2, which is correct dangerous.
So I was, I was, I was like. Well, so they would appreciate
it with an A for everything. I know you're lucky. 12.
Yeah, wasn't a great car, the audio, but then he ain't moving on to Chad's deliveries. Got anything to deliver this
week, Chad? Well we we delivered a new cars
and my wife which was nice. Ohe.
When she gave me yeah, we got the HIV for her.
No, we got a used 123 model and only 17,000 K So now, which is pretty good price in the end, right?
Yeah, she loves him. Is that the current shape one or
the one before? Current.
Well, yeah, current. And they're they're just about
to release a facelift, which makes it look like a Zavi.
Yeah, yeah, I, I reckon the I, I like to look at the HIV, the.
Carhartt, so smart looking. It's great.
No, apart from that, no other deliveries, but we'll get there.
We'll get there, Scotty. There, go to the week.
Well we're heading into winters, that means cold weather and starting to rain. So some tips when it comes to
raining. Just trying make sure you got
your gloves on for the grip. Still gonna get out there and
play. Oh my goodness.
Is that to keep the balls dry? Your hand dry for the grip on
the sharp. Yeah, you saw Scotty.
Come on. Hang on Scotty, you say that,
but if you're wearing the gloves and you wearing like a polar, doesn't it rain just poured any glove into your hands and just get weird and. You know no, not if you got a
proper proper Golf Club on. You you finish up the the day in
your trench hand. Not gonna wear it the whole
time, only when you hit it and then.
You take it off if you. Say so it's like you'd never
listen to my tips or something. I'm too poor to play golf,
Scotty. Next such thing anyone can play.
With the best, the best game we've got is like the stick and the the white school wheel and you just run around.
And the final tip on that one is when it is raining, remember you're going to have less spin on the ball when you hit it and which sometimes might mean that you can hit it further, but not necessarily because of the the rain when it's up in the air will actually be pushing down on the ball creates a bit more weight. So it won't go as far.
So go one club length up. Nice.
Good tip. Great tip alum.
