lovely faces as it normally is. Crack on with straight away with

some car updates. Chad updates with you, man.

What's happening? Yeah, not a whole bunch, but I

did finally get all the brake stuff sorted on the Civic.

I had to get some knuckles out of a an Integra and a bit of Honda parts been staffed to make it all work.

So it's all it's all together now.

And it's just got some random pads in it that the callipers came with. And now I'm just in the middle

of trying to find the right the right pads to go with the callipers. And just searching through all

the stuff on the Internet is make me want to tear my already non existent hair out. That is.

Good it is. There's so many different

answers, so many different part numbers, and then every AD manufacturer also has their own part numbers that don't really correlate either. So I've just been, yeah, like

the last few days, I've just been on on Google the whole time just trying to find the right one and hopefully I've pin pinpointed the right one. I just need to take out the pads

in the car and measure them and should be good.

Hopefully I'll get some proper race pads for it.

Are they integral callipers? Well, this is the thing

apparently Integra Type R, but 96 use these callipers, the four by 114 hub, you know, assembly sort of thing and also EKVTIR.

So it's it's a bit all over the shop.

There's only some and then also I'm finding other answers like, you know, Accord 93 and then Prelude 1992.

So it's just like all over the shop like the information that I can find, but specifically that calliper, that calliper has been used on at least Integra tie Pas, I know for that much.

Well, that wouldn't surprise me because they probably if it's coming out of a Prelude and stuff or like the other bigger cars, again, quite often with car, What Car can resume like with the bigger brakes on the small car.

Yeah, that's right. Yeah.

And then I know for a fact that at some point Integra has changed from 4 star to five star, Yeah, of that generation.

And then so I think I'm on the right track.

I'm just trying to find yeah, the pads to go with that to, to suit ADC two Integra Type R and yeah, hopefully we'll be sweet to, you know, go racing in a couple of weeks time because I'm also running running out of time to get pads in there.

So and yeah, obviously nothing is in stock.

It's all special order stuff and yeah, we'll see I guess.

And apart from that, yeah, not a lot.

I I hit up Rob about getting the I190 painted by him, so I'm going to liaise with him and see, you know, what he can do about it and stuff. And yeah, on that, yeah.

Nothing else really has been happening.

I've just been driving the other cars and, you know, maintaining.

Got got the I-30 service the other week and that went sort of without a hitch, as, you know, expecting something for a new car. And yeah, they were, they were

nice and detailed about everything that they did and whatnot. Do you have?

Yeah. So I got it at 4000 and it's,

yeah, just just that 18. So it's just had it's two year

service. Yeah, yeah.

No happy, happy days with the cars so far.

Nicely, I was. Going to say, Chad, have you

been cataloguing each part that you're putting into the in terms of the brake system? Just so for future reference,

you know, if you're, if you're changing anything out or if you sell the car, like it would help the future owner, but that's, you know, not you don't have to be nice to the future owner, but you know, that's that's one thing.

But for your own future references.

So you're like, well, this is the part, this is the actual part number I need, and you're a little bit better about it next time. Yeah, that's it.

I've just been, I've been writing down all the part numbers, either if it's ADB part number or the Honda stamp or whatever it is that's on the actual part.

So yeah, yeah, it's because only some of them work with that car and not the others. Like not everything works,

unfortunately. But yeah, I've just been writing

down everything and, you know, hopefully if the, if I ever do pass the car on, then that person will be able to keep, keep using the parts, you know, wherever they can find it.

And yeah, it's. Potentially make a little guide

I guess for somebody else to send a simple position to you.

Yeah. I can say these parts actually

work and this, this order, like, yeah, like you said, there's so much information out there where you like, is this going to work?

Am I going to spend 600 bucks on this, you know, one calliper and then be like, oh shit doesn't work?

Yeah, yeah, that's right. I, yeah, I, I, there are some

write ups, but most of them are from the the states because that's where most people mess around with Hondas to this degree, I suppose. But yeah, here people just

happen to, you know, most people just do like a four star to five star conversion and then they know what parts that those came out of and then What Car they came out of, and then they can just go and buy the parts of that car.

So that kind of makes it easier. But what I've done is like, you

know, sort of the cheapest way possible because, you know, that's how we do things. But yeah, I mean, that's the in

the spirit of the type of racing.

Yeah, exactly. Nugget Nationals as well.

So that also helps. And hopefully I'll be able to,

you know, pass on that information to someone who might need it in the future. That'll be one of those fun

conversations at a parts store where you're like, I need, you know, the the five spur cub. And they're like, What Car is

it? You're like, never mind What Car

it is. Yeah, just give me it, because

if I tell you the car, you'll be like, no, this doesn't fit in a clinic, you know? Yeah, it's like, yeah, it's

people ask for a rego. I'm like, it's not gonna work.

They're like, what's the van? I'm like, don't worry about it,

don't worry about it. Just just give me the part that

I I'm asking for. Yeah, you should.

Get Vins for like the cars that you know that the parts from and you just give them that VIN. Yeah.

Well, you know, in a perfect world, yes.

But unfortunately when you buy parts of Gumtree from an unknown seller, you never know what what it's come out that's.

That's a Scumtree lottery. Yeah, so, all right, so, so just

clarify. So you've gotten teggy knuckles,

teggy callipers, teggy discs. Yeah, OK.

Yeah, yeah. So it's all basically the the

front setup Integra is an Integra, Yeah, minus the control arms, sorry, minus the lower control arm and yeah, but but the rest is, yeah, basically Integra, yeah.

Because they are very similar car right?

Like. Quite similar, like in terms of

like the the track width and like the yeah, yeah, all the steering sort of geometry stuff. It's very similar.

So it it it would make your wheels go out any further that.

No, it's no, it's all pretty bang on like it's I, I I think I still because I have to change tie rod ends as well.

So I I've only because they were shagged, but we'll get a wheel alignment. Yeah.

I don't think it's gonna be allowed out a lot, but yeah, we'll see I guess. Anytime you're doing anything

like that, you you should do it anyway, yeah.

Pretty much, yeah. It's just to be safe.

Absolutely, yeah. Were you getting much fade with

the old with the old setup? Apes.

Apes. Yeah, I, I was in a bit of a

pinch last time I changed my pads and I had to, I just had to get some breaks very quickly from a, you know, place around the corner. And the pads I put in basically

disintegrated on the, on the first track day.

I did like they, they wore down to nearly to like the, the back of the pad, right. But also because they got so

hot, they became like ashy on the inside.

There was like heat trapped inside the pad.

And yeah, it was a bit of a nightmare.

I'm like, I'm never going to use those pads again.

But at least now I know to not go super cheap or whatever.

Yeah, sorry, not, not super cheap or whatever, just super cheap pads. No, that that that makes makes

total sense. Yeah, life's a lesson.

So once you get that sorted, do those callipers fit your wheels still? Or like your wheels fit on

everything. Yeah, yeah, the wheels I've got,

they're often Audi, they're just being redoled.

And yeah, they clear the brakes and all that stuff.

Plenty of clearance still. So yeah, yeah, that all worked

out. I'm not sure if I would have

cleared up with stock like EG wheels or whatever, but yeah, thankfully these wheels have a little bit of clearance, which is nice. Good.

Not a huge amount, just some bits and pieces that I've done currently. I did some repairs on the back

bumper of Ashley's Insight. OK.

So I took that off and gave it a bit of a spray and a clean up.

Turned out all right. It was tricky to get it to

match, but I feel like I did a a pretty good job.

I don't know, I was so tidied that up.

What else have I done? I think it's just that and then

probably going to try and plan to start pulling apart the R31, start popping everything. I think hopefully that will

start maybe tomorrow. Let's see how I go, you know,

and just start taking and just try and remove the transmission and everything and just do it over time bit by bit.

Yep, we're still going to organise a working bee for that Scotty. We'll yeah.

So I drove it to Chadstone and picked up some stuff and washed it and brought it home. But you know it that was it's,

it's a 5050 on that one as well. 5050.

Look, to be, to be fair, any excuse to draw with type art's a good excuse like like, let's be honest here, so.

Absolutely. But so I heard you brought in

the the MX5, Yeah. Yeah, so next fun car Friday,

which I don't know if it will do it this week because it's all rainy and miserable. I may bring the STI in.

And there's a, a gentleman, a lovingly named Chicken at work, a young fellow, He's got a SS Commodore Ute and yeah, that he has a bit of fun with that. Yeah, a bit of fun, Yeah.

So that's been my update. It's nothing too crazy.

I think now that I'm a working man earning my own income, I'm probably going to take the MX5 to the mechanic because it does have a, what? I think a leak that temporarily

got fixed from the front crank steel.

So like that'll be one of the things of like you do that you do a time belt at the same time. I think the kit for everything

is about 400. There would probably be an equal

amount of labour on that. So I put do that.

I'm pretty happy with the Amex side.

At that point, try and move it along and be very confident in selling it, you know, for a good price because there's no other issues to. Be all done.

Yeah, and then, then the hunt begins for either the Crown or I've been seeing some evos on Facebook Marketplace.

See. See, first of all, it was a

sports car, and now you're like, Oh no, I was one of the luxury cars to cruise and they want an Evo.

have, I have AI was for a compromise I would get the EVO with the SST. Would you?

don't trust all dual clutches, but from what I've heard, they're pretty all right. If you get them serviced and

tuned accordingly, they do all right.

And so, you know, I am still buying an automatic car.

My parents can't drive it. So, you know, I'll be like, mom,

I get get in the she's like, I want a small car that's automatic. I'm like, well it.

Was even a. Small car compared to the D Max

mom you know. There you go.

What's happening on your end? Cars really, not too much really

to tell the truth. It's slowly progressing with the

the E 430 and the E36 AMG roof and and the roof rails and cleaning up all the paint that's peeling off them.

So we're getting there slowly, yeah.

So hopefully that will get done. It's been really quiet with the

car front. It's just been cold and

miserable and wet. You haven't been doing much.

No, I did a little bit on the on my end this week.

So the the sway bar end links on my laser were were a bit they were they weren't a bit worn. They were they're completely and

I've known that for a while and I just didn't meaning to do it.

So and mechanics, they were like just put, don't put adjustable ones in there. You don't really need

adjustables. Just just put just your standard

sway ballings because the car's not loaded or anything.

So the adjustables were 250 bucks and the standard ones were 40 bucks for the pair. Wow.

So I was like, I'll take the standard, let's take the 40 ones for the pair. And I was like, oh, like I've

done sway ballings before. I've put in sway bars and, you

know, and worked on, you know, I've put in coilovers and all sorts of things before. So I was like, well, yeah, easy

job. How hard can it be?

How? Hard can it be and the famous

odds words, how hard can it be? Because I did the driver's side

and that took me about 45 minutes, including jacking the car and everything like, you know, and I was like a hard I, I reckon I could do the other side in about 20 minutes.

So it's it not a hard gig. Take the other wheel off.

I cannot get the thing out. The bulge just would not come

off like I, I, I put penetrating fluid.

I used breaker bars. I'm like, what is going on?

Why, why can't it go three hours later and I'm like, it's just this is like now my, my garage is like can't shut.

I can't close it because the car's half, half out of it.

And I'm like, oh, damn. Like, so I'm like after run to

after run to the local supercheap.

Bought a, the, the most powerful Newt metered, you know, impact drill. I'm like, it's coming off today.

Yeah, tonight. And quite literally put it on.

Bang, it came up. I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I

like to think it was me loosening it with all with all my work previously, but it would have saved me over three hours if I would have just done that from the start.

So 1 ugga dug out and it was off and I was like, well, I want to tighten the crap out of this. So I ugga dugged the crap out of

it, putting it back on the bottom one was was a little bit hard, bit more tricky because the fact they've got like a like an Allen T bolt in the middle, like and, and you got to hold it with you know, And so I, I got that off, put the new one on, dropped it and the front end feels like just tight again.

It feel it feels so much better. So, so that that was a big, big

difference. So like now, now that like that

car is pretty damn good now, like the paint's done the the suspension. Well, that little bit of

suspension's done yeah, it's pretty much fine.

Like it's, I don't think there's a single issue with it.

So I've touch wood. So yeah, it should be all good

now that the, the engines like everything is done.

So like, you know, theoretically that should give me plenty of kilometres of trouble free money, which which it does anyway, like even with without that.

So did that. What else did I do over over the

course of the first week? Not much other car related stuff

because I, I wasn't in, I wasn't in Melbourne, I was in Adelaide.

But I want to go to try to go to the records on Thursday or something. I want to just just have a, have

a day at the records because that's, that for me is a relaxing day getting car parts and things.

So I'll probably go to the one down in Geelong.

The, the, they've got a, they've got a really nice one just in Geelong. I think it's Jolly's.

Yeah, yeah, it is Jolly's. So I'll, I'll go down there and

have a, have a, have a bit of a butcher's hook and yeah, get, get a few bits and bobs, which would, which would be really, really good. But yeah, I'm happy with the car

front on my end. Now, gentlemen, speaking with

Rob earlier in the day and Rob wanted to talk about the state of the used car market currently, because we haven't really talked about it since COVID because like, because there was the COVID tax for a while, the COVID tax was out of control. People either made a lot of

money or they or they lost a lot of money because the other cars are, you know, like the, the, the adjustment in verticom has has come into play and everything is kind of back to normal in a, in a weird way. Where do you guys see the state

of the used car market currently?

1st .2? Do you think now the new car

market is kind of back to where it was?

There's this stock, there's more stock available and lasting 3.

Do you reckon that having stock available has has really impacted the level in which the used car pricing has dropped in substantially in the last 6 to 12 months?

Answer to all that is yes. Yes.

It's just amazing how many cars are held up in the shipping yards and this, the stocks are available to pretty much pick up these days. Yeah, for cars.

So obviously you can go and buy a brand new car.

It's easy probably to get finance for a car if you're going to buy a new card and buy a second hand car.

People don't have the money on their mortgages anymore to to draw down on their equity. Yeah.

Or their offset accounts to actually go and buy a second hand car. So second hand car markets, I

think doing it pretty tough. Yeah.

Would you guys see that the same way?

Yeah. Definitely, especially the the

new car market given the amount of like offers there are for like relatively low comparison rates which.

Still, comparison rate itself is a scam word.

I think you know it, it at least allows you to like they say, as the name would suggest, compare between the offers of different dealerships, But overall, you're not paying that specific rate.

You know, there's, there's other things baked into it, but given that they're still offering considerably low comparison of rates with the actual, you know, cash rate being like 7%, you know that they're probably doing it a bit tough that they're, they're trying to move cars. And like, you know, with the

economy the way it is, people don't have that disposable income. The only way you're going to get

really those cars moving are good finance offers.

Well, here's the thing. Dealers are dealing right now

like they're they're actually doing something that they wouldn't, they weren't doing for a good three, almost 3 1/2 years. Yeah, yeah.

Like they will like take it or leave it.

They're. Having to work for, they're

having to work for sales. Absolutely.

Yeah, They haven't done for quite a while.

Quite. A while, yeah.

Which which I guess when that comes into play, you know, the, the, the whole, the whole adage of oh, well, I can buy one of these second hand, you know, cheaper is kind of you can use that to your advantage, especially in the used market and in the new market. Because when I was looking for

the Fiesta second hand ones were more than they were brand new.

So I was like, why would I buy a brand new one?

So why why wouldn't I buy a brand new one?

You know, and that's the reason why I I did that.

Is if you're happy to wait at the time or whatever.

Right. Yeah, absolutely.

Like I, I didn't, I wasn't in a rush for a car.

Like I was like, I was like, I can, I'm happy to wait, you know, provided I'm not paying 345 grand more than what the car's actually worth. It's ridiculous.

It's, I mean, it's insane. I mean, Rob, you sold your your

Pajero sport for more than you paid.

Yeah. So, so, you know, and people

were just willing to do it because the people didn't want to. Wait, got the money back on The

Mirage? Sold me LDV more than I paid for

it. It's quite a few cars, yeah.

You did well, Rob. So yeah, it's, it's, it's

interesting to to to see that now in terms of the used car market, we'll start there. So, so the used car market

pricing is adjusting and it's kind of adjusting in all aspects really. Like even on like, like you

spent some special cars, like, you know, you know, you're hard to find sport, like you Japanese sports, because the pricing has come down a little bit, hasn't come down as much as, let's say, you know, your standard cars. But it it is adjusting now

Scotty's really into into, into that kind of market.

Scotty, do you reckon that the the pricing is, is still got a bit more adjustment to to play? Or is it or is it hit the point

where like that that's it's not going to adjust anymore?

I don't think we'll probably adjust anymore and I think they, they've hit the peak about it now.

I I don't see them going up more now.

Now I think it just comes down to what people can afford.

So they can't afford to have these fun cars on the side anymore or yeah, splashing cars on something from the 90s and now. So start to see more of them pop

up now, people trying to sell them and they're not getting what they paid for them. And it's interesting because,

you know, they're, they're not willing to budget on prices, but the, the market's adjusting so, or has adjusted anyway.

So it'll be interesting to see in the next 12 months, I suppose. You know, if those, you know,

we'll not talk about Scotland because let's be, let's be honest that the price is still ridiculous for, you know, yeah, all these Americans buying $250,000 R 30 fours and making, making the prices for everybody else ridiculous.

So we so we're, you know, we're, we're talking about like MX Fives, your Mr Twos, your, your, you know, your Sylvias and stuff like that. You know, where, where the

pricing was just going through the 50 grand for S15 rolling shells, which was just, which was insane.

Patrick's not on tonight to, to be able to, to, to, to yell and swear, But the, you know, the, that that was what people were paying because they're like, oh, well, if they're going to keep going up, they're going to keep going up.

But now that there's, you know, an abundance of people and the interest rates have gone, gone up and everything, I guess, you know, that's made that that big change.

Do you think the change on, on the like those sports cars will still cut? Like, do you think there's still

a bit more adjustment? Is is the question.

I actually don't think some of those cars are going to come down anymore. Like there's a new ceiling for

those cars now. One, because of the same

monetary inflation like money is not like you need more of it to you know, whatever, but also there is a there's you know, there is as time goes on, there is less stock on the market of just say for example, S thirteens.

You're not going to buy a $5000 S 13A running driving one right?

The probably the new baseline is maybe 12 grand like it has changed but. It's no longer 30 grand.

What it was it's. Not 30 grand to buy a a a

clapped out one right? Like it?

No, it's like 3 years. Ago rolling shell.

Yeah, A50 grand rolling shell. Yeah, that's right.

So there is AI think there is a new ceiling for some of those cars, especially the hero. Yeah, the Japanese hero cars.

But just, I was having a look the other day just for, you know, whatever. But there are, I've seen R30

fives for sale for like 7580 grand, which that has not been the case for quite a few years. Yeah, there were just sort of

100 onwards, right, Even for like a one with a lot of cash.

Probably four or five years ago, you could just just before COVID, you'd get an early O8O91 for like in the 60s.

Yeah, you could get them in the 60s, a hundred percent, 35 GTR.

Yeah. I mean, probably you were

looking at AGTR at one point where you know like and and and that that were kind of hovering around that.

Money around about 60 grand, yeah.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. So they've come down, Yeah, they

were, I think the cheapest one I saw a couple years ago was probably 110 grand. Yeah, yeah.

But now, yeah, there's they've dropped back down to like about 7075. Yeah.

It depends how many kilometres you want on, I guess.

And that's sort of like what judges it.

Yeah. But yeah, I, I don't think

there's much left to change in it.

But yeah, it's definitely different to 12 months ago from now, yeah. Would you think the new ceiling

is only applies to like the these the specific cars or would you say that the new ceiling applies to kind of everything at the moment? I think just from seeing what my

partner was when she was looking at buying cars, she bought her 2020 skirt of Fabia for like 20 grand, right, Which is a a steal at that price. But then the new car came out

like the new model Fabia came out and that started at 28 grand. Oh, wow.

OK, so even like three years difference in in, in the, you know, year of the car, yeah, that ceiling, it totally moved up by 8 grand, which is a pretty substantial amount for essentially the same car just in like it looks prettier sort of thing, you know, like, but yeah, I don't, I mean, I feel like the Toyota hybrids and stuff they they probably used to be maybe 10 grand cheaper than they like the older hybrids.

And now they're sort of like, you know, hovering around like the Corolla hybrid is probably like 50 grand, right?

There might have been 404545 grand or something at some say.

They've gone up substantially actually.

Yeah, with, with those. Do you reckon that's just

because they said, oh, well, sorry, I, I don't ask it to, you know. Do you reckon that's because all

the, all the dealerships have been like, well, all the companies are like, well, if people are paying inflated prices for anything, why don't we inflate out, Jack up the price of our cars, you know, just just because they can?

It could be that, it could be that, or it could just be materials are more expensive now.

So like the whole ceiling has shifted on on the cost of everything. So they've had to put up, Well,

they haven't had to, but they have chosen to put up the prices so they can make the same amount of profit per car.

Maybe. I don't know.

It's Yeah, well. What about you boys?

Would you agree with that? I think it's partly just greed.

It's just we can make more money.

People right now, people are hot on cars and you know, until recently with the interest rates being what they were, disposable income was a bit higher. People were were kind of willing

to do it. And now I think one of the

biggest shows is good old Tesla, you know, kind of lowering prices a bit, trying to get people into the cars because they're sitting in the sitting in the docks just chilling.

Well, having to do that for one or two reasons, I think 2:00 sorry. One, the the Chinese market with

their, with their really affordable electric cars is, is just flooding the market. And two, you know, the rest of

the technology is catching up. So like, like the all the other

companies are catching up with, with the tech that they've got.

So that means I have to have to be more, more competitive.

And you'd be spewing if you bought a Tesla about a year ago, you know, like genuinely, because you'd be, you would have paid a lot more on top of the market.

Yeah. So it's interesting to see that

kind of balance. Do you think, do you think like

all these because like, well, even the second hand Tesla, Tesla market's really, really tight.

I mean, Rob, you've got a Tesla. Yeah.

And you'd probably keep an eye on on what they go for.

The used market's kind of kind of going a bit, going a bit nuts, isn't it? Yeah, Yeah, it's, it's, it's

crashed I think in a big way and it's you've probably got a large choice of cars now at that are fairly reasonable buying price really. Now with the, with the Model 3

in particular, like it, it was, you know, it was, it was an OK seller, but the, the model, it was the Model Y that that, yeah, that, that that's like the 3rd or 4th best selling car in the country. You know, Tesla's just built

them and said, oh, people will buy them.

Do you think the people have said, well, actually we don't really want electric cars. And it, and that that mindset

shift has kind of kind of said, hang on a minute, do we really need these electric cars? You know, do you reckon that's

kind of been really the, how would you explain it the, the mindset shift because they haven't really kind of adjusted their pricing? You got to look at the the

reasoning behind buying an electric car.

It's great as a second car, your runabout car, but it wouldn't be your primary car. Never.

Yeah, yeah. I, I could not see unless you

were only using it around town and, and, and you do want to go the anywhere further than Geelong or Ballarat or Bendigo, OK or Band style. Yeah, forget about it.

I mean, yeah, yeah, you got rap fast charges.

You can, you know, do all that, but you can't be bothered trying to, you know, plan all this. And especially in summer

periods, people are waiting in queues in the US for hours on end to charge their cars, you know, and forget about the winters when there's a you know -30 your cars won't even plug in your charging port won't even open up the.

Doors frozen shut. Yeah, like there's the market's

limited and I think it's it'll, it's probably not saturated at this point, but there's only so much people want.

Now with your Tesla, would you said you, you said a few weeks ago you'd buy another, you'd buy another one, you'd do it again.

Is that has your mindset changed a little bit since then?

I think you're putting words into my mouth like at the time and what we got it for and what we're using it for.

Yes, I'll buy one. But looking back at it towards

retirement and if it was your last car, you'd be going for hybrid. That's why Rav Fours is selling

so well to retirees. Yeah.

It is the best middle ground, Yeah.

It is like the best of all, both of those worlds.

And then, yeah, you just, you always have the option of, you know, I'm going to take a long road trip, I'm going to fill the car up instead of driving it on the electric power or whatever, you know, like it's, it doesn't limit you in any way.

Exactly. And especially if you plug in

hybrids like your Mitsubishi's and and whatnot and the the Boyds and a few other models are coming out with the plug in hybrids where you're getting your 80 kilometre range on electric. You can drive that for two or

three days a week at home without even using petrol.

Yeah. Rants here.

Yeah. And that's like an amount of

range where let's just say in a day you would do 60 KS to and from work. You could probably charge that

if you got, you know, decent charging at home, charge that the next day. And it's only when you go out

and about really far that you're using, using a petrol which is, you know, like the best of both worlds.

Don't just say, you know, here's an idea.

I mean, I don't know why electric cars don't have these shouldn't like they've got that whole roof space.

Can they just be a big solar panel?

It's. Not enough.

It doesn't generate enough, yeah.

Yeah, but like just something, it'll generate something, surely, right? Like.

Like passive charging? Passive charging, yeah.

That's like it's like 3 kilometres a day or something you get. That's right.

Well, if the car, the car's just sitting there, it's three kilometres better than than than three kilometres not.

Maybe it'll keep up the battery just enough so it doesn't, you know? What about?

That big moon roof warning. So was that was that Scotty?

Just hooked up to the seat warmers.

Someone's built a Tesla RV motorhome.

OK. And they've basically put ARV

chassis on a Tesla or body on a chassis and they've got solar panels right throughout the roof.

And it's I think it's going to take them about three to four weeks. So correct me if anyone, if I'm

wrong, four weeks to charge the batteries up with without it being used and having enough sunlight for the three or four weeks before you can start driving it for the disc, you know, for that full charge. Yeah, yeah.

Would you all right, so now looking back at it, so electric utopia is probably is probably, you know, kind of maybe it's it's probably more of a look. It's would you think it was a

fad or would you say it was kind of like a you know, well, we tried it out, but it's still with probably, you know, hybrid, you know, being being a hybrid or hybridization is the answer over over both? Because like, I still don't, I

still don't know what the answer is like yeah, in in terms of that. And it's, and you can see it's,

it's affecting the used car market with, especially with, with the electric cars because they've, they've, they've, they've, they've probably been out of all the cars that are copped at the most or against electric cars.

And, and it, it, it is, it is sad for, for those people who, who went like, who went full, like sold everything and went full electric, which, which, Rob, you're not in that boat because, because you've, you've got, you know, you've got the, the best of both worlds. And, and you say you use your

car as a second car anyway. So it's great just hopping to

the shops, etcetera. But the, you know, you know,

people that have owned hybrids that they they would nine times out of 10 want to own another hybrid, you know, and that, you know, and you don't get that same correlation with owners of electric cars, unfortunately, Yeah.

I think some of it's like people drinking a bit too much to the Kool aid. They'll almost Kool aid.

But like Rob said, it's in the the current infrastructure and everything else. It is a great second car to

have. What people I think did was they

bought it and then they tried to make it their only car.

And you know, when you when you all in again on the Kool aid, you have to justify to everyone and be like, see, no, I, I live with just a Tesla. And then you go on your holiday

and everyone is also drinking the Kool aid with you and that you've got 30 Teslas parked there trying to charge up on, you know, three stations, one of which is broken.

Then you learn your lesson. Like I think people have, you

know, finally we've reached that saturation point of their the cars are now heavily burning the charging infrastructure.

It's just not enough. Before it was, you know,

especially companies like Tesla were trying their best to pump out charges that because to entice people to be like, look, you don't have to go to a petrol station.

You just chill the charger for, you know, you sit on the little park bench, I have a picnic, you know, you know, take some selfies, tell the world you're better than them, you know, all that. But now when there's, you know,

100 cars waiting, you don't feel that enemy.

You're like, damn it, I hate this.

I wish I was just at a petrol station, fill out for three minutes, get my sausage roll, I'm on my way.

So I think once we get that I guess increase in infrastructure, you'll probably see the increase because I think in the future we'll be more or less electric.

But for now, people find like really felt that pinch in Australia. I think it was already in the

States happening. But here in Australia we

definitely these last few summers people have felt that pinch of like, yeah, these these EVs aren't great on holiday, you know, going going further than home.

They're not they're not that great.

They're not the one car I can own.

Definitely not. Yeah, totally.

And when you're when you're in a tight, you know, financial situation and maybe you can only have the one car, you're probably not going to pick the EV then.

And it's not like cheap at the end of the day.

You seem to be charging more often than not, especially during the winter months. So you're not getting arranged

as you as you normally would when it's warmer because it's always trying to precondition the batteries and everything else that goes with it. I charged it to 85% on Sunday

and they've drove it to Epping him back and done a bit of running around over the last two days and we've been down to 30% or 34% on the battery. I'll have to charge it again

tomorrow because by overnight it'll drop another 10% because it's real cold but it actually wants to be warmed up so.

How much does it cost you each time to charge like you know, did you? Is there peak like like because

you charge it from home obviously.

You, and that's the good thing about it.

If you, if you plant, you got solar panels, you got batteries, you can run your house off the batteries throughout the day.

And then there's a pack plans now that there's zero tariff on your consumption of electricity from midnight to three in the morning or four in the morning or something.

So you can get some pretty good deals.

And if you set your car to be charged during that period, you're not using any extra power.

But our energy bill since we've got cars probably increased by I'd say a good thirty maybe, yeah, 30 odd percent.

Well, OK, so yeah, so we're going from, you know, say 600 to $900 plus every two months for electricity bill.

Well, OK. And that's because of the car.

So, and that's summertime, which time that that goes up.

So you're probably paying, you know, almost double that.

Yeah, You know, so, yeah. But so I've got charge stats

coming up now and me total charges I've charged since this time last year, 3200 kilowatts. And it's cost me $1000 in, in,

in, in charging. And they're saying that I've

saved about 1400 in petrol costs.

And that's in comparison to they, they compare it to the, the petrol rates when you charge at that particular point that they do on average, yeah, I've only used the supercharger at 1%, ninety 6% of it's at home. Yeah, well.

So the supercharger is $0.70 per kilowatt and it's 30 cents per

kilowatt I think at home, OK. Yeah.

Yeah, sounds very right. What's the price difference if

you chose to charge it like outside at a supercharger, at a supercharger or yeah, like what would that cost you per kilowatt? Yeah.

So roughly to charge a Tesla, you know, it's down about 10% or 15% and you charge it up to a, say, sometimes 100%, sometimes 90, depending on when you last charge it to 100% because you should only charge it to 100% once a week, right?

And then you charge it up to 80%, around about around about 80%. So it normally takes you about

20 minutes at the supercharger and about 18 dollars, $20.00 for

a charge OK, depending upon how much you're at.

Yeah, that's not too bad. Yeah, if you're in a pinch,

yeah, use that and. Yeah.

So I think. Getting your 400 kilometres, you

know, but it's downhill, yeah. We're looking at a few stats

here. It's about 21 ish kilowatt hours

per hundred KS on average from let's say a model 3, which will be what some around $7.00 per hundred KS.

Yeah. Yeah.

And so, you know, give the price of petrol a car doing that.

$800. Yeah, yeah.

So it's still is saving to be had, obviously, yeah.

Does he understand that you're paying upfront also more for the car? But overseas in Europe, where

your superchargers cost you an absolute squilliant, you you and you're paying a lot more than what you would for a petrol car to drive from one end of England to another end.

Yeah, I saw that. That's been that's been

happening a lot with a lot of videos.

People, people doing these videos of like they, they backed it up. They like we only got 430 KS of

range and it cost us 70 bucks. And then we, we filled up the

car from empty and it got us 600 KS of range.

And yeah, yeah, I have to find the video.

It was, it was not. And a few, a lot of these videos

are coming out now. That's bizarre.

What why I don't get why that's happening in Europe and not and not here. Like, I don't understand.

I don't understand the, the, the variation between that.

But it's, it's interesting to to see how some people are really, you know, struggling with that. But yeah, watch that space with

the electric car market, but the getting back with the with the, you know, normal like other car markets in, in, in general.

You're right, Chad, I think, I think there is a ceiling now and there's a new, there's a new ceiling on, on, on car pricing.

And I think it's just going to fluctuate a little bit, you know, up and down a touch. But it's, you know, your

inverted Commons, your JDMS and, and, and your Aussie cars and all that stuff, I think they've kind of hit that mark where, OK, well, this is kind of what they're worth now.

And if you want one, you're going to have to pay this or more. So if another COVID pandemic

happens, which hopefully it doesn't, but if it does, we'll, we'll, we'll know what to expect because it's been, it's been, it's been interesting, you know, it's been interesting four years really with with that. So, But yeah.

Any last words on that boys before we move on to the quiz?

Yeah, I was just going to say that.

Look, it's understandable that, you know, if you bought a car for let's just say 18, you know, you bought a cash because you know, he's canals and leave your loan on that.

And now the realistic reality is probably seen at 14.

Kind of that's a significant chunk of change, especially percentage of the car wise, like kind of holding onto the car instead of, you know, trying to flog it off at this point may just be the more prudent idea. That's what people are hoping,

that maybe something will happen in the market, the price will fluctuate again and that's when they'll get rid of it.

Yeah. Like especially if you bought

the car because you actually wanted the car, I think you're still doing all right. Obviously there there'll

probably be a financial pinch, you know, you're trying to maybe save money elsewhere, that sort of thing.

But at least, you know, if you at least wanted the car, you're still holding on to it. It's not the the end of the

world. Yes, it's not valued at what

you, you know, paid for it. But that's the ultimate truth is

the most cars, you know, you lose value on them.

It's the people that are, you know, bought speculatively and now they're kind of screwed. I don't really care for them

because you. Know quickly too, I always look

at cars the longer you keep it, it it it's, it's basically, you know if you keep it for 10 years at 40,000 it's only 4000 a year you keep it for 1520 years it's only 2000 a year you're losing to operate a catalogue and that vehicle so that's well.

Yeah. Yeah, it's ongoing cost, but you

can have the ongoing cost if any car.

Yeah, yeah. And if this was 20 years ago,

you, that car probably wouldn't have been keeping at that value anyway. Like it would have been dropping

significantly. So you're still in a way, you're

better off because the depreciation is so much lower, especially on like, you know, fun cars.

Yeah. Like you might lose a couple of

grand over a few years, but that's, you know, that would have been 10 times the amount maybe.

Yeah, 1520 years ago to do the same thing.

And I think the depreciation's still great over the first two or three years and then after that it stabilises and levels off. Yeah, too.

Absolutely. No, I was going to say that

with, you know, with a few of the cars that I own, for example, the the Typhoon, right. I, I bought it at the its lowest

kind of point in the market when they, when they really weren't worth a lot. No, I mean, 18 grand was a lot

to me, but it it wasn't, it wasn't, you know, in the grand scheme. But that was a $58,000 car when

it was new, right? It was, it was, you know, and,

and I bought it, you know, at 11 years old.

So, but the, you know, like if you, if you're planning on keeping a car for like, like like as you said, Rob, like, you know, like I've gone up and kept my laser.

I've had my laser for for 14 years, You know, I bought it for 8 grand and it's probably worth 3 grand, you know, like just being honest here. I'll take that depreciation, but

a. 105,000 KS I. Put a it was 200,000 KS on it.

It's a sense I've owned it. So you know, I'll I'll take that

depreciation. I think that's, I think that's

fair. But yeah.

they're paying just ridiculous money.

matter if you pay another 10 grand and another 20 grand, another 50 grand, because when you're dealing with, you know, millions of dollars. I just.
