Hello and welcome to the AutoGuide Show.
This week I drive probably the most controversial redesign, Kyle drives some wagons and we have
a ton of new car news from the LA Auto Show, but first a word from our sponsor.
eBay has reinvented car buying.
From click to curb, everything is covered.
But their new secure purchase, eBay, isn't just where you find your car, it's where you
buy it, start to finish, title, financing, registration, delivery, it's all built in.
And eligible vehicle purchases are backed by up to $100,000 in protection.
This is what modern car buying looks like.
Get your next ride on eBay.
eBay, things people love.
Secure purchase is powered by Carmel Dealer Services LLC and eBay subsidiary.
All right, so we'll kick things off here.
There will be no guests because like I said, we have a lot of news and reviews as usual,
but there was a lot more news, a lot of car debuts, even some that didn't happen in LA.
So lots to cover.
So we'll start with where I was this week.
I was in Phoenix, Arizona, actually we were up in Sedona, and it poured rain the
whole time, which was unusual, to drive the 2026 Outback.
Yeah, a lot of people wrote this car off because it looks like an SUV and it's not a wagon anymore.
And I get it.
It's going to be hard for the people that romanticize the lifted wagon look of it to accept this.
But well, what are your thoughts before I tell you how it is?
So I'm going to give my prediction here because it's a Subaru, I imagine not a whole lot
has changed under the skin, but it looks substantially different outside.
And as much as I don't like the look of it because I really, I mean, you managed to catch
your probably the least ugly shot of it so far, whereas the Outback, sorry, the wilderness
just has so much plastic up front that I'm like, cool.
But I think the important thing is if it still feels like a Subaru to drive and the
interior is just as useful and practical, then maybe people won't mind.
I mean, maybe they will, but that probably helps a lot, right?
As if it still feels like an Outback.
So you nailed it right there.
This is the seventh generation Outback, but the underpinnings are pretty much the sixth
generation, just with some reinforcements, exact same wheelbase, same drivetrain.
It has the new two five liter, two point five, which the Forester and Cross Track
have, so down to horsepower up to pound for your torque, but that's the only
difference. So so many people were like, Oh, it's not a wagon.
It's an SUV. Now it's ruined.
It's not going to drive the same.
It drives the exact same because except for that sheet metal on top is is
the exact same pretty much.
I mean, it has been upgraded.
It is noticeably quieter, like the Forester that's done a good job.
Okay.
But I mean, I've driven lots of Outbacks and lots of generations.
And I mean, from behind the wheel, looking out over the hood, you won't
notice, except for its quieter, like that's the only thing.
The interior is so much nicer.
So that's a big plus because the interior is a problem.
Physical buttons for climate controls, huge plus.
Yeah.
But the tuning knob went away negative, but the big screen is no longer vertical.
It's just a regular square and it's got a new software that someone described
is like, like super basic, but that's kind of nice.
Like it just very minimal you have to do to move around in there
and you can customize stuff.
And yeah, I know it's it's a well put together vehicles.
The only real big negative is getting people to buy into the shape.
But even then, like because of this square shape and the flat glass at the back,
you have so much more cargo space and you have a little more rear seat head space.
So it sits the exact same off the ground.
So you can't argue, well, it's more SUV because it's higher off the ground.
Like the Outback already was, I mean, don't get me wrong.
I love the Outback wagon-ness to it and I will miss it and I'm not happy.
This is an SUV, but it is just like different clothes, same body, basically.
Yeah. Well, so so I guess a question for you, too, is like since it has gained
a substantial amount of height, has that added much to the curb weight
or is it kind of negligible?
It's a little bit more has really gained much height.
It's just that continues back like the the actual.
It's just like they squared off the wagon.
And I mean, that's what an SUV is, right?
It's a it's a car with a little taller green space.
But of course, it's got great sight lines.
But this is still under forty four thousand pounds fully loaded
with every possible trim and turbo.
And that's what this one is.
And then if you get the non-turbo, it's like in the thirty seven
one hundred pound range.
So yeah, like it's still reasonable.
But again, because like all the mechanics are the same,
there's a couple of reinforcements and maybe the body added a couple pounds
because there's a little bit more sheet metal.
But OK, it's an outback pricing.
Does that change a lot?
Um, it does and it doesn't, depending on where you are.
So the outbacks now built in Japan because it was always built
in North America for North Americans, it was built in Indiana.
But now that it's completely separate from the legacy,
it doesn't need to be tied there anymore.
So because it's built in Japan in Canada, it goes up just a little bit
and you get a way better equipped vehicle in the States.
It goes up more what you'd expect.
But I'd have to look it up again, but off the top of my head in Canada
with destination for the fully loaded turbo, all the toys.
It's like fifty two with destination.
And in the States, it's like forty nine.
So like they're pretty close or forty six.
Yeah, I can't remember.
But yeah, they're pretty close.
So in Canada, it's a pretty good deal.
Like jokingly, it's like a Forrester XL with a turbo.
So I want to look at it that way.
Like it still drives like an outback and like a big turbo force.
I don't know if this it's it's strange, but it also makes sense
because North America, you guys love SUVs.
So I mean, you love boxy ones.
So Super was like, all right, we can do this.
We're more masters at the boxy SUV game.
So yeah, okay.
I mean, yeah, I'm warming to the idea.
I still don't like how it looks.
But if you're driving it, you can't see it.
Yeah. And you joked with Subaru and they didn't overlay pose.
I mean, this is how like every new Subaru people hate the looks.
And then over time, I don't know if it grows on you, but you just it like you accept it.
Yeah, exactly.
The five levels of grief or whatever.
Yeah. And I have voted many WX's and I used to be in many WX car forms.
And every time we do one came out, it's the most hideous.
They've ruined it, blah, blah, blah.
And then by the time that generation is done,
this was the best one.
Now this new one sucks.
Why are you like this one?
And it happened every time, ever since the blah, blah, like without fail.
So, you know, there'll be a group that buys this.
It aren't the current traditional back owner that will fall in love with it.
And then if Subaru tries to change it, they'll freak out.
So, yeah, I can't not see old Hyundai Santa Fe in the headlight.
Now, the top light, not the actual headlight, but anyway.
Vertical headlights need to go.
Oh, there is one other issue, and that is there's no hybrid.
The hybrid drivetrains in the forest are in the cross track.
Well, that's why my theory or not theory.
My idea would be that should be the entry level engine.
You can have the hybrid that has more power in the entry level
and way better fuel or turbo power.
But I'm sure that would probably raise the price on the base.
But a little bit.
OK, use the Ford Maverick style.
All right, we spent a lot of time on that.
So moving on, we will start with the coolest debut of the last seven days.
I think easily we do Genesis and Magma wanted to make a splash.
And we kind of knew that they were painting.
They would make a sports car, at least concept or something.
And they brought out this GT that looks like it should be fighting
Ferraris and Lamborghinis.
Yeah, yeah, it has like real Koenigsegg vibes with its wraparound windshield.
And it shows the elasticity of their design language, right?
Like this is a very curvy car, but it still uses the twin line motif.
And it looks really good.
It also looks like it could go into production like tomorrow.
Yeah, like it's very well resolved for being a concept.
But I guess that's because this is a very serious tease from them, right?
Like they said they want to build something like this
because they also want to take it GT level racing.
In addition to that prototype that they're already getting ready for this year.
Yeah, and I think the prototype this will have some of the styling to it,
especially with the headlights.
We've talked on this show before how the hypercars
didn't actually become what they're supposed to, which were like street based.
But yeah, the V8 from the hypercar would probably fit nicely behind the seats.
I know it's hard to say where and how it would fit,
but I'm sure they I'm sure that they figured that out.
It's got the scissor doors.
Yeah, it's got a lot of cool things.
And yeah, let's just hope they build it.
I mean, I think it's just to celebrate the 10 year anniversary
and it's crazy how far they've come in 10 years.
Because yeah, when they started even five years ago,
if he said, well, Genesis is going to make like a $300,000 supercar.
You'd be like, good luck.
Now you're like, OK, all right, that's the next step.
Sounds good.
Yeah, it's it's interesting.
I feel like we've talked about this before on the show
about how Genesis is kind of leapfrog to the other
non-German brands that are trying to fight the Germans,
where now this is the brand that I most consider a competitor
to the established name plates, right?
Like, I guess sort of Cadillac like when kind of like wants to build
either a giant luxury SUV or a hardcore sports sedan.
It nails it.
It does those two things.
But then the rest of its lineup.
Yeah.
Yeah, there's too much bad sharing.
And that's a lot of the other luxury, too.
Genesis could have done that, but they don't.
Like, these are all platforms that are for them.
They remind me kind of like Lexus in the early nineties
until Lexus kind of got into their own, like, they're their own thing.
I don't.
It's not like they can't compute the Germans.
It's they have their own luxury thing that some people try to chase as well.
But this is sort of like they're trying to outgerman the Germans.
Like this car to me, sort of, you said the corners look,
but it feels to me like this is the new R8, basically,
where it's going to be like a supercar that's not quite as crazy as a Ferrari
Lamborghini, but way nicer than just a sports car.
That will probably be, you know, more reliably attainable.
So we'll see.
So moving on now, a little L.A. news.
The Kia Telluride surprised us.
I don't think we saw this.
I mean, I I thought this was going to happen when the Palisade came out
and since it didn't, I figured it wasn't going to happen here.
But all right.
Yeah. Yeah.
So we saw we got to see the Telluride last week.
Man, it feels like it was a while ago.
But yeah, I think it was actually last Monday.
We we saw this and we have thoughts on the styling.
But all we knew was that, yeah, there was going to be a gas engine
of some sort, and now we found out that it's actually ditching the B6
and the Palisade is the only one to keep the B6.
This goes all turbo.
And now this also, Kia has confirmed that it will get the hybrid,
which is the same as the one in the Palisade.
So it's the two and a half liter turbo four cylinder in both cases.
And with the hybrid, we've got three hundred twenty nine horsepower
and three hundred thirty nine pound feet of torque and 35 miles
per gallon combined in a large three row SUV.
Yeah, the turbo still makes tons of torque.
I mean, a little down on power, but torque's what you feel in these.
And it's the two point five turbo, right?
Yeah.
So it's 50 pound feet more than the B6 and 13 horsepower less.
With so many of its competitors going that way,
I would like to both assume this is going to happen.
So either Kia and Hyundai really had different ideas and they went different ways.
Maybe this engine wasn't ready for the Palisade last year
and it's going to switch over in a year or two.
It could just be, though, the corporation hedging their bets,
like you got the Palisade because the Pathfinder pilot.
And now you have this to go against the turbo fours that are out there as well.
And we've got one of each for people to decide between the interesting thing
that I find is that the B6 in the Palisade is new
because it was a three point eight in both of his last generation.
Now it's a three point five.
And this is just this is the two point five liter turbo
that's been in everything for years.
So it's very strange to me.
Yeah, if maybe Hyundai will move to this in a year or two,
but maybe it was a it was a way to keep costs low
because we don't know the price of this yet, right?
So maybe this will actually end up slightly above the Palisade.
I'm I'm very fascinated with this.
I'm also fascinated because Kia has two off road trims, right?
Versus Hyundai's one of the X line and the X pro.
And you can get the hybrid on the X line
because normally these brands kind of keep the off roadie trims as pure gas.
So that's an interesting little difference too with the Kia.
Yeah, and this non off road trim, the nose is a little nicer.
As we figure, there'd be less less plastic.
Yes, it has blinds in between its headlights.
Yeah, with the three five, I mean, I I'm sure I could figure this out
in two seconds if I looked it up, but I wonder if it's a shrunk down
relation to the three eight or if it's related more to the three five
turbo from the Genesis that just took the turbos off and shoved it in there for now.
I mean, you have to turn it sideways and Matt may like pair it up
to a transverse transmission, but could act.
So who knows?
But yeah, our prediction, I think they tell you right.
Are the Palisade follows suit sooner or later, but yeah.
So moving on to corporate twins, we knew for over here that
Nissan was bringing a P have version of the rogue out and we knew
pretty much right after they told us, actually, I think even at
the event I was at when they first announced that that it would
use Mitsubishi hardware for the P F and then we found out
earlier this year that in all new rogues should be coming out in
twenty six foot twenty seven model year and that rogue should
also have the e power hybrid.
So we always thought like, what's this P have from its
you going to be and while they debuted it and it is a Mitsubishi
Outlander with slightly different headlights and Nissan badges.
Does it have different headlights?
I know it has a different grill ish look and obviously the
badges are different, but yeah, maybe you're right.
Maybe I'm confusing the P have looks for the non.
Yeah, yeah, the top lights are there.
It doesn't have the grill party.
Yeah, no, no, I think it's pretty much the same.
The Mitsubishi seems to be more square.
Oh, no.
Yeah.
No, it's the same.
Um, so same.
My theory as to why this exists after all I said is they
they're probably staggering the new rogues.
So maybe we get new rogue next year and e power hybrid
doesn't come until a year or two later.
So this can continue to be sold and it's not based on
the current one.
So it's not like they have to keep two lines going themselves
pretty much.
So that's my thoughts.
It's I don't know.
I'm very excuse me.
I'm very confused about this.
I feel like it would cause confusion for buyers, but at the
same time, I'm thinking that people that go to one dealership
of the other probably aren't cross shopping, but maybe they
are.
I don't know.
So I just find it very strange.
It I mean, this is the perfect headline, right?
It is like it is proper bold school badge engineering of
like, here's another car.
It's the same car.
Yeah, I agree.
I don't think Mitsubishi and Nissan buyers are probably
cross shopping this exact car.
So they won't probably know it's quite the same, but it's
the Nissan buyer that's going to be confused.
They're going to show them and be like, Oh, there's
the rogues.
You have to be like, Oh, what's this?
It's a rogue too.
No, it's not.
Yes, it is.
But like I said, it's maybe it's a carry-on.
I mean, if you want to be completely cynical, maybe
they plan to take the technology, put it in the rogue
and we've heard the well-documented cash flow.
So it was easier to do this, but who knows?
Yeah.
Yeah.
And I mean, I guess if it gets your your fleet averages
down or transaction prices up or whatever brings
in new buyers, then I guess, yeah, it's a it's
a financially prudent way to expand.
Yeah.
And we'll get you into the hybrid segment.
I mean, it's the Mazda with the CX-50 hybrid, right?
Like that's all total running great.
I mean, they have their own body at least.
Can you imagine a RAV4 with a Mazda badge?
And they're like, look, it's the CX-50 hybrid.
But I mean, the same thing like they just try
to get in there for now until their own tech
comes sooner rather than later.
But stop gap.
But it's just didn't expect it to be this outlier.
All right, well, we will get back to the debuts and what not
a second, but Kyle tells us about your.
Well, these are just family wagons, right?
That you compared?
Yeah.
Totally, totally practical wagons.
It's it's very funny.
So I drove the 2025 BMW M5 Touring and the same model
year Porsche, Taycan, GTS, Sport Turismo.
It's funny that wagons have kind of gone this way in North
America where they kind of exist still.
There's a handful of them, but most of them are actually
high performance models.
So it's either that or faux off-roading ones like Volvo
and Mercedes, I think still has one of those.
And Subaru.
Oh, no.
So this would have actually, I drove a plug-in hybrid
Panamera earlier this year and that would actually be
a perfect match for the M5, except there's no more wagon
version of the Panamera because the take rate was less
than 10% on the old one.
So this is the only Porsche wagon you can get, but I think
it might be my favorite wagon.
We know that GTS trims are the Goldilocks trims for
Porsches and getting the long roof of the Taycan.
You get good range, you get like slightly shy of 600
horsepower and it knocks up to nearly 700 with launch
control. It is comfortable.
It is good on range now.
Like I think I might have already said that.
It's just one car to rule them all.
It does everything well and it looks great too.
The wagon looks cool as hell.
And so putting it up against the M5, the M5 has more
power, more weight.
Which is crazy.
More, it feels like it has more grip to more space,
which is one thing girl and yeah, and it lights up and
honestly, probably a bigger breadth of drive modes in
the sense that the M5 can actually be very comfortable
and quiet when you want it to be or it can be a monster.
And of course, you can disconnect power to the
front axle and turn it into a rear drive.
717 horsepower wagon.
The weird thing about it is the M5 feels a little
rough around the edges.
Like you can barely contain all this power.
And yet at the same time, it also feels weirdly digital.
It doesn't have a lot of variance to how it drives,
at least when you're having fun with it.
The Taycan feels more analog weirdly.
It's actually like easier to play with in a corner and
kind of have fun and enjoy the balance.
But one thing as you and I have both driven the
M5N, the Taycan feels like it's lacking now, right?
It's like so many times when I was driving it, I wanted
to pull for pedals that just don't exist.
Well, portion may have something for you coming down
the road further in this podcast.
But yeah, I was supposed to help you with this and
I was very sad that I couldn't because these are
like two fantastic beasts and they are beasts.
They're both in different ways.
But yeah, like you said, it seems it fits a wagon.
It's either luxury or sport or something.
And I guess that's because they're kind of compromised
compared to an SUV or a minivan in terms of interior
space.
So they're trying to sell you on something else.
And the one thing people always go back to is, well,
they drive better because they're more car-like.
So they kind of lean on that, I guess, and go full performance.
And they do.
They do drive better.
Yeah, my pick would be the Taycan and it is in
the comparison.
But I do see the advantage of the M5.
I feel like this is a car that you just get into and you
can you can drive across country in this thing.
And oh, you're going to take a stop at a racetrack.
Cool.
This car will take care of itself on a racetrack.
It won't embarrass itself.
And then you can just get back on the road and
you know, drive hundreds of miles in comfort.
And a junior's tire shop to replace.
And that, yeah, yeah.
There is a feeling like when you're really pushing the M5,
you're just, oh, I'm so sorry.
So sorry tires.
All right.
So moving on.
Going back.
Yeah.
So Audi, not at the LAO show, but they debuted their new Q3.
And it has the new styling that we kind of saw on the
Q5 and some of their cars recently.
And I like it.
I like the direction it's going.
The grills kind of getting a little more in control, cleaner
lines.
It doesn't have exposed exhaust pipes like the Q5 did.
We didn't get that far with this, but the two liter makes
255 horsepower now through a seven speed dual clutch.
Okay.
And that's all you get.
Like that's it.
So they're boasting it as the most powerful in its class
because I guess they're comparing it to X1 and
GLA like X1 four cylinder.
X1, yeah, like 230 or something.
I can't remember 241.
Yeah.
Okay.
So yeah, I mean, and then the inside it's got all the
modern Audi bits and pieces with all the digital dash and
the big infotainment and everything.
It just looks like it looks like a more of a change
and upgrade compared to the last Q3.
So it's good.
It seems like even if the mechanics aren't overly
changing, they're doing stuff with the body in the
inside.
See, I was I was confused seeing this news this week
because I was positive we had already seen the Q3 and in
fact, I was positive that people had already driven the
Q3 and then I realized that, yeah, it debuted like last
year, but or sorry this spring, but in Europe, of
course, right?
And now this is us finally getting all the North American
like packaging stuff.
Yeah.
And I was like, oh, that makes more sense.
I do wonder if we're going to get all the cool
headlight tech because I think that is the fascinating
part of the Q3.
I've seen video of people driving it in Europe and when
you go to signal the change lanes, it moves the beam
over to the lane you're going to be in and highlights
that lane like that.
That is incredible technology, but we always get stuck
without all the coolest latest headlight tech.
Yeah, I don't think I do that and projecting stuff
on the road with the lights too.
Like I don't think US law is going to allow that yet,
but they wouldn't allow some other lighting stuff that
since come by is just they take their time.
Are we getting the weird shifting controls behind
the steering wheel?
Is that yes?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Oh, that's just Q3.
All right.
So moving back to high performance EVs, Genesis first
official magma.
Now we talked about their concept, but this is an
actual production version is coming.
The one we always knew was going to be first the
GV 60.
It had to be because they don't have that V8 yet.
So you can't really magma your gas versions yet
because you're already maxing out on your sixes.
So yeah, this is I mean to oversimplify things.
It's an ionic 5N bits in the GV 60.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And I mean, there's nothing wrong with that.
It sounds like it'll be fun.
It does get slightly more torque than its siblings.
It peaks at 583.
So it gets something like 20 pound feet more.
Not that you're really going to notice, but yeah,
otherwise it sounds like they've taken all the good bits
and just put it in a different shape.
It may end up with more downforce based on that big fixed
rear wing and it sounds like they've actually further
evolved the simulated shift feature because now it
will adjust the horsepower and torque and engine
region whereas before I think it just momentarily
impacted torque.
So it could be even more fun.
Who knows?
It'd be fun to have all three if you can get an EV6 GT
with the upgraded.
I mean, few at far between.
I don't think you can because it's no longer sold.
It never came to Canada, the EV6 GT, the updated one.
And it's no longer sold in the U.S. either.
I mean, like there's I assume a couple trickled in,
but who knows?
So you mentioned the one thing that I have the biggest
issue with this and that's the wing.
It just this is such a cool shape and so nice and
that wing just looks like someone went to their local
performance shop and slapped on generic wing 101.
Like it doesn't fit it.
It's got weird upturns on the side.
I know it's probably 100% super aerodynamic wing tunnel
too. And like everything there makes is there for reason
except for downforce, but it just visually.
Yeah, it looks like bull horns on the back.
Crap handles.
I do I do appreciate one thing that Genesis mentioned
when they showed this off is that they said magma will
come to every model of Genesis, which I thought was
interesting like everything you want to G90 magma
GV 90.
I mean, I guess GV 90 isn't the thing yet, but her talks
for a while, right?
So so yeah, I mean, this is like we said earlier.
This is them going after the Germans.
You can't do that without a performance sub-brand.
And so here's the start.
We said it.
We said the thing it's missing for the GV 80 is a big engine.
So GV 80 coupe with a V8 under the hood sign me up.
All right, well, we'll take another break from reviews
and from news for a second and we'll be back.
We're just going to take a little pause on the Auto Guide
show right to you by eBay Motors and hear from our sponsor
and then we'll be back.
We have more news and reviews and then column will be
on to talk formula one and Kyle and I will then wrap
things up and take a look at what's ahead.
eBay has invented vehicle buying from click to curb.
Everything's covered.
It's all thanks to their new secure purchase.
Ever try to buy a car and end up in a parking lot with a
stranger on some blind trust or spend half the day at a dealership
talking to pushy salespeople and signing paperwork or maybe
worst of all wait hours at the DMV just to transfer
the title that era is over for years.
eBay has been the go to for gear heads collectors and
DIYers because whatever you're into from classics to SUVs
and trucks to imports, eBay's got it and now with secure
purchase eBay isn't just where you find your next ride.
It's where you can buy it start to finish sellers
and titles are verified paperwork is handled by
experts and payments are traceable and digital.
So you know exactly who you're dealing with and
exactly what you're getting plus you can finance
ensure and register your vehicle all in one place.
No more hours at the dealership.
No more trips to the DMV get your vehicle plates and
paperwork shipped to your door ready to drive and it's
all part of one seamless process designed to feel as
easy as buying anything else online and eligible
vehicles purchased on eBay are backed by up to
$100,000 and purchase protection.
Thinking about selling a ride secure purchase makes
that simple too because you know your buyer and
their funds are verified.
If you still owe on your car, the financing payoff
is fully integrated.
So you're not chasing paperwork or waiting on
checks to clear and with secure purchase you get
paid fast and you're not going to be stuck chasing
no shows or answering the fifth still available messages.
This is what modern car buying looks like.
Skip the DMV skip the sketchy meetups buy it
on eBay eBay things people love secure purchase is
powered by Carmel dealer services LLC and eBay subsidiary
and we're back.
Okay.
So this is our final test drive portion of the show
today and we driving the Jeep Wagoneer Overland
Special Edition and that's his official name and
it's perplexing because the Wagoneer is no more
after 25 we already saw the 26 Grand Wagoneer refresh.
We know Dodge or Ram.
I think it's I don't remember which one exactly is getting
a version of this vehicle for their brand and
essentially this is going to replace the Wagoneer
because it was so confusing having Wagoneer and
Grand Wagoneer you'd assume Wagoneer was short and
grand was longer but no it was the class they fought
in Wagoneer fought Suburbans and Expeditions
and Grand Wagoneer fought Cadillac Escalades
and Navigators so I think it is it makes more sense
to have like Dodge against the mainstream and you can
have your Jeep that you're trying to make premium go
against the the premiums but then that makes this
is addition curious like they brought out a very luxurious
version this year too which made things even more
confusing and this so the Overland as it sounds
is like Jeep's off road trim without going hardcore
into like a trailhawk or Rubicon and this gets
all terrain tires and it gets skid plates and it gets
a more more durable two speed transfer case so it has
like some off road bits and being a Wagoneer is the air
suspension up to 10.1 inches drive wise it doesn't seem
to drive much different and usually we find the off
rotors are a little smoother or squishier but I think
that's because this still has 20 inch wheels even
with the all terrain tires so you're not really you're
not shrinking to like a 17 with a big fat sidewall
tire I see what you're saying yeah you're just getting
a little more sidewall yeah like it's too I don't
have to get more sidewall you're just getting knob
your and basically the tires so there's no more road
noise or anything and I didn't really get to off road
it it looks kind of your jacked way up in the air
with these tires but it's huge yeah but I mean I know
people have problems with the design but it's a big
box and the inside that translates to so much space
and yeah this is one of the better driving ones
because these are all based on their pickup counterparts
that I mean the Rams one of the better driving full
size trucks so it translates to this and I mean realistically
they all drive the same I said that the review like a
suburban to an expedition to this to an armada like
they're all kind of the point where they're smoothing
out their truck routes as best they can and the only
differences are the final suspension tuning sort of
like how they ride yeah and I mean you could boost the
steering and whatnot but yeah it's just like if you really
likes to Lantus or roll par or whatever you want to say and
you need a full size SUV that can tow a lot here you go
this thing tows 10,000 pounds so and get it now because
it's gone after next year but there will be a replacement
down the road does that mean this is going to be a
collector's edition maybe I do like the paint but yeah
that's the thing like like driving it I've never had a
problem looks I know some people like can't stand it but
I don't think anything in the segments of good looker like
everything kind of I think it really depends on color right
like you just said this is a nice red and I think that
helps but when you see this in white it kind of looks like
a fridge but like Chevy's new truck style language I'm
not crazy and I usually like theirs the Armada it looks
okay it's nice in the expedition in the Sequoia
they're like an offensive it's just there's no style icon
here and that's because they're all truck based and they all
need tons of space inside so you can't go too crazy with
their style I like the look of the new expedition after
driving into the summer I actually kind of like it except
for the weird black panel to highlight the slick tailgate
but anyway so yeah it's I mean it's what it should be
it's a contender completely and it gives you an option
if you don't want one of the other ones oh and the
turbo six is great yes so speaking of three rows Honda
has updated the pilot and we just got this thing I know
it's crazy it's already in the mid-cycle refresh yeah
because and you say that and then I also like party means
like why is it not all new like the passport like shouldn't
this be the twin but it's right this came out already but
yeah it's basically getting the passport style which I like
to look at the new pilot like I always have been yeah when
we first drove it like two years ago but the big pilot on
the tailgate and a look but now they've made it try to look
even more rugged yep as everyone is yeah rugged everything
it it yeah I'm sure it's going to be more or less the
same to drive because as far as I know they haven't
dramatically well I mean actually I mean based on this
headline it might be fairly different to drive just the
power train is going to be the same yeah and we considered
it one of the better ones to drive overall so if they somehow
improve that further and now obviously the inside is going
to be updated but you know what it's a it's about family
resemblance and like we said everything's be rugged so good
on Honda because two pilots ago was very roundy yeah and this
current one I really liked and then I don't have to see this
in person to really make my final call if I like this
better or not yeah my one concern here is this probably
feels slightly counterproductive but I hope they don't make
the trail sport much more off-roading because in my
mind it really helps to keep the passport trail sport as
kind of the the halo model of the off-roading because
it's a tiny bit smaller and a two row and more focused
on that whereas like this should be the family oriented
SUV and sure yeah it can have some off-road chops but I hope
it doesn't just take everything from the passport.
Well the current pilot trail sport was pretty good like
capable for what it was so yeah just continue doing that.
And while we're on the topic of off-roading Jeep finally
showed us the wreak on that feels like it's been years
I mean it hasn't but it feels like I've been hearing about
this thing forever so it's jeeps I think supposed to
initially be their first electric vehicle but it ends up
being number two because of the wagon here is which it
probably should have been the other way around but I'm
guessing I'm guessing making this off-road capable took
longer time than making something that was just road
biased like this wagon here.
Yeah and it's interesting because it's kind of like kind
of not well not a compass like a bit of a Wrangler
look but it's actually a real SUV more but you can take
the doors off it's got a bit of the Renegade in it kind of
but way bigger it's got a lot of new Cherokee.
Yeah yeah boxy and you can take the doors off though so
that's the big thing for off-roaders and it only has
650 horsepower you can take the off and you can take
the doors off and it no longer requires any tools.
Well I can't say no longer I mean yeah true true I say
no longer because the Wrangler still does yeah the Wrangler
also still has solid front axles so you know it just
doesn't want to change.
This is still the stellar large platform so that's
the interesting thing to me is like it's technically a
wagon-ear-ass but it has all-terrain tires I think
they're 33 inch tires it has a lot more ground clearance
a lot more suspension travel so I mean I'm curious
because it is a unibody platform.
Just think of how high you could jump this is 650 horsepower
and all that capability and and think about the range
because this one has with the 200 or with the 650 horsepower
has a range of about 230 miles future models with less
power will get that up to 250 miles but still you're
taking a hit to go off-roading in your EV of course the flip
side there is once you're actually off-roading EVs are a lot
more efficient off-road than a gas car so.
Yeah it's interesting I just don't foresee many of these
doing any some like real off-roading like people take
them because they can but yeah and just be interesting to
see how this does I want to try one before I save judgment
I just I don't know you have to find a new customer I don't
think you're gonna get many current chief customer
Wrangler owners for sure to go to this.
I don't know yeah like I'm very curious because I remember
very clearly my first Wrangler 4xE experience because I
remember going out into the brush and off-roading in
silence and there was something really really nice about
that so yeah I mean here's hoping it doesn't seem like
it's repriced I mean it's it's expensive but it's not as
expensive as maybe I would expect given the stats so yeah
I'm curious.
Yeah it's one of those you need to drive it yeah you know
it could be really surprising and anyway so we'll look
forward to that speaking of electric SUVs Porsche decided
that their second one the Cayenne because it's bigger and
needed a little bit more power right couple little ponies
little bit what is it 1139 horsepower yeah this is this is
it for me this is the point where EVs have officially they're
getting like too much power like it's just ridiculous like
what's the point I know there's some thousand horsepower
bees already but they're super cars or like the Taycan
trying to be like a super car but this is an SUV now with
1100 horsepower like ridiculous I yeah I did not expect that I
expected a lot of power but like this isn't even a turbo GT
this is just the Cayenne turbo turbo and and like I mean the
lucid gravity isn't putting out this amount of power it has it
has those extending fins in its rear haunches which are
fascinating to me it's like this thing is so quick that we
literally need extendable aero aids on the side of the car
which doesn't take off like wings like oh okay like this is
a SUV that does a 9.9 second run in a quarter mile.
Yeah it's like oh hey want to come over and see my new Corvette
zero one got that in my driveway already it's in my SUV I
don't need that power.
My SUV V that weighs probably twice as much but also cost twice
as much well maybe not after a zero one.
Yeah I it shows I find this fascinating because it really
shows the the change with Porsche where the Cayenne is sort of
the brand's defective flagship right like you've got it you've
got to make it I think you mean effective.
Yeah you you've got to make a statement with your EV version
and boy does it and and I think like look like I'm not saying
all buyers are like this but some buyers want you know the
bragging rights that's why you would get that's why you would
get like a Cayenne turbo instead of just a Cayenne 4S or
whatever I guess Cayenne s like some people are going to go
for this because look you have a ton of power also it's not
like it's just a ton of power right it has very quick charging
batteries it has good range this is the first model that does
that inductive charging so it's just like a giant mobile phone
you just roll it over your wireless charger parked in your
garage and it like there's a lot of fascinating aspects to
this that I kind of like but I'm with you this is this is
just too much power.
Yeah I I know it's not like a gas engine like if you turn the
power down a lot you don't get that much more range with the way
electric motors are I mean you get a little but it's you can
get way more power for how little power range you give up
so yeah that's why they do it is because they can't but I
mean I guess you could have had smaller motors to start
with and then you get better range but and you get lower
weight well but also not much not much because the battery
is the way but you gotta get people what they want and clearly
they wanted 1100 horsepower electric but I get it because
Porsche did that sort of with the Taycan it's sort of like we
are going EV but look how crazy your EV is so it kind of
gives people like oh like it's it's not just here's an
electric Porsche it's a look at how crazy dumb fast my
car is and the other thing too is like how iterative these
electric cars can be right is like I remember when the
Taycan launched and people were freaking out because the EPA
rating was barely over 200 miles and then of course you got
it in people's hands and it regularly did better than
that and then when they did the facelift and it's updated
it's like oh even any a gts will do 280 miles on a charge
it's like these are getting better I mean this this
instantly became one of the cars I'm most looking forward
to driving next year I don't know if you're going to drive
it or if it's going to drive you well you know either
way a car I'd most like to experience yes.
All right well that wraps it up for our extensive debuts
and news and reviews and all that good stuff like I said
we're going to take a very short break and I'll be back
with column to talk about some F1 rumors ahead of the Las
Vegas Grand Prix though it'll already happen when you hear
this and then Kyle be back and we'll talk about what we've
been up to this week and what we're going to be up to
next week.
All right welcome back we have column would once again
joining us this is before the Vegas race we don't know if
it'll be rained out but by the time you see this it will
have happened but let's forget about Vegas for now and
talk about all the news and rumors leading up to the
big race.
There's there's lots there's always lots of news and
rumors everything else maybe the the the first bit of
news I don't know if you've got that one queued up or
yes there you go that the total wolf so yeah okay he
remains you know or city CEO and team principal but
that he sold a huge stake that he owns so actually he sold
a 15% stake to this is the US billionaire which is named
here.
I want to say it's Ted Kurtz but no it's George Kurtz so
$300 million he's the CEO of CrowdStrike so so yeah which
is already a sponsor of the team right and then I saw
something else this morning that actually then this
George Kurtz will actually become like a I don't know
like a technical advisor which is probably just you know
a nice way to sort of pat him on the back and be a
part of that the bigger group but the interesting thing
that that that sale value values the Mercedes team at
$5.97 billion which is the most for a Formula One
team so that's pretty wild that it's $6 billion for the
team.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Throw in merchandise and everything that's a lot of
money.
Yeah good on total he's got lots of piles of cash
now so we'll see I'm sure he'll stick around for a
good while still but you never know.
Yeah he seems he feels like he's the kind of guy to me
with a big okay total we got to let you go we've had enough
and they'll just be like no no this is not happening.
No I'm staying.
No yeah well I'm sure he'll leave when he wants to leave.
Yeah and like everybody else let's see how next year
goes to the new regulations if it sucks he might be
like all right now it's time to pack it in if it's
great you're like I'm all in like let's do it so so
the Americans are slowly taking over so it won't be long
until you have stages and more advertising on the cars
and no no stages I actually saw and I haven't seen it this
in the race so so people who watch the F1 the Vegas
race apparently you know like the the corners they
have the like the rumble strips or the not the rumble
strips but the outside of the corners and it's got
all the looks like cards like playing cards apparently
one of the corners is going to look like a Dorito part
of a Dorito sponsorship so I haven't seen that but
apparently that'll happen so yeah so there's some some
clever sponsorship if it works that's probably the
least offensive advertising so yeah all right oh oh yes
what's next oh Felipe Massa so this is so funny I guess
I'm wrong although it's funny how depends where you get
your news from the first thing I saw about Felipe
Massa's battle with you know trying to overturn the
rulings was a press release from the FIA and the
press release basically reads like it was all struck down
nothing to see here packing in go home but but but but
that's totally not true so so the the gist of it is he
basically some of the court case was struck down but
the the judge for this I guess was a preliminary trial
basically said that yes it can in fact go ahead he
basically said that look there's no there's no
chance that that he'll get to overturn the result of the
of the finale that he won't be declared world like that
that's all kind of like the judge kind of said like
that's not something that can really be evaluated however
they did say that he is entirely within his rights
to go after formula one for what is it the 64 million
pounds that he's looking for so that is going to court
and he's going to try and get some some dollars out
of this so I thought I didn't think that I guess
maybe maybe I am still right in saying that like the the
whole overturning the you know the the results that's not
going to happen but you know who is going to get some
money and probably this ends up being some type of
the settlement less than 64 million pounds and we
they get some dollars and I do think that there's
like a moral victory here for him right like if
he can if he can get money then basically that's
the formula one admitting that you know that that
he that they screwed up is the gist of it so
it's just the way all the legal systems in the world seem
to work you know you can't fully 100% undeniably convinced
it in like a criminal court but in the civil money
courts like yeah they probably screwed up here some
money it's OJ all over again right yeah it's just
everything all over again I mean if I will publish
a book saying if we did it yeah oh no oh no oh crap all
right so super quick rumor here Charles Leclerc
apparently has been approached by Aston Martin to go
there I feel like these rumors are kind of they're not
nonsense they of course have have found it every team
is talking to every driver that they can right so why
would they not it's a it's a interesting look right
and actually again if you're Charles Leclerc you'd want
to be promoting that idea too that you're being shocked
around after the recent you know fall out there and
if you think that Lewis is probably not going to be
around after next year you know he'll he'll do the
2026 and then be gone off to you know retirement or
something and then they really need a like what's
the future if they were to lose Lewis and Charles
the same year poof that's a huge problem so
all he wanders into the office kicks open the door and
says here's my terms yeah right you can give a guy like
him a huge bargaining power that he wouldn't otherwise
have so it's funny March 2025 you'd be like oh Aston
just talking to everybody because they're linked
everyone but now in November 2025 you're like well
maybe Charles wants out so yeah a lot happened in
here but Aston Martin feels like the only dodgers to
me it's like everybody is linked to them because
they just have money to spend it whoever wants to come
come on yeah but they're still really quite terrible like
they they I hope that Adrian Newey's been like working
behind the scenes to do some great stuff for next
year and maybe they will come out and surprise the
hell of us but they other than the very first year
that they sort of came out with that like a rebadged
Mercedes effectively and did quite well it was or
was it a rebadged Red Bull it wasn't either but
it was just like they kind of copied a previous thing
no I think it was the I think they copied basically
and I think it was Haas the copied the Mercedes and
they I can't remember but yeah they just it was a green
version of something else but I agree I think Newey is
working on 26 and knowing it's wide open and they're
going to have Honda right yes so you know Honda's got
a pretty good history look at Red Bull so yeah
they could be like I'm keeping eye on them and
I think McLaren has transitioned okay oh yeah and
then Red Bull is a big question mark with the Ford it
totally is like that could go anywhere right it
could be just a complete disaster or they could
dominate I mean like the Detroit Auto Show this year
you're probably going to have the Red Bull Ford and
the Cadillac F1 car both on display like what a
crazy yeah yeah I know what like imagine telling
somebody that a couple years ago you'd be like
that's no that's crazy talk right but boom here
we are yeah alright so moving on to our last story
last last rumor of the days it's not even a rumor
so the director of the F1 movie Joseph Kaczynski
has said that he has an active discussions with
both Apple and Brad Pitt for a sequel so I don't
know a 7 year old F1 driver comes back to one more
go they're basically just going to copy that
what was it the third cars movie they'll have
a young female come in and she will get trained
and then overtake the boss and that's how it's going
to go so played by Sydney Sweeney I'm just trying
to think there you go right now you could throw
out there yeah that'll get views then it's a I
don't know it's just a the more I think back
I think you know like I really enjoyed watching
the movie when it was in theaters and it was
fun but like there's nothing lasting about it
there's no like I would never go back and watch
that movie again I would net like I and it's just
one of the movies that screams sequel will be terrible
I could be wrong maybe they'll maybe they'll pull
a Terminator 2 on us and make the greatest crap
ever but I don't know so he's going to travel back
in time to his younger self and make sure he
still does the formula and path there you go
it's actually a origin story movie about yeah
it goes back and we need someone to play
a young Brad Pitt is the the gist of it so
I think of who that could be well as someone
who still never saw the movie you're really selling
it on me call you didn't see it no because I didn't
get to theaters and it hasn't shown up on somewhere
free streaming again or the airplanes yet
so I'm just waiting yeah yeah no no you can't watch
that airplane I mean airplanes make everything
seem everything good because you're stuck
but you got to like you need some some big
sound you got to watch it like cranked
my headphones yeah I can myself in my headphones
yeah but you need like the big screen you can't
see anything else around you it was like I went
and saw it in with like the whatever was the
top the line I max version and that was really
like that was that was the way to see it and
I really think like watching it at home would be
much less impressive unless you have like an
absolutely massive screen so so watch it like
it's fun you'll enjoy it'll be a good time
some of it's kind of nonsense whatever but
but it's like yeah you know but but it's
like you won't think bad there are movies
that like have a cultural resonance right
and you're like oh I'm rambling now that somebody
mentioned once like avatar avatar is a movie
that like everybody saw but like has no like
important cultural flash points at all I think
that this is similar I did the Disney ride
okay I made a ride but no you're right this is
no the fast and furious right fast and furious
I get I still think about rush like rush is
a fabulous movie like if if if you were just
like you're bored on a Tuesday night
and you're flipping channels and you saw rush
was on you're like oh stop and then before you
know it would be the end of the movie and be
like that was a great movie like this yeah I
don't know yeah you just go in with the
expectations was like the Gran Turismo movie
right like people were like oh the the order
of sequences for that guy's not correct like
it's out of order because it was and teams
like we're going up the different ranks
together like they're doing sports cars
now they're doing protests like just forget
about that and just enjoy the movie like
it was yeah it's fun I never saw that movie
so so there you go I had been told I should
as well so we'll see all right well before
you go I don't have a rumor but a fun thing
that I read recently was during the media
scrim in a Vegas Landau was being asked
why he and Oscar don't do as many fun
social media things anymore like basically
saying like is there tension you guys
don't like each other and Landau's
response was we are both fighting for a
championship we have asked not to do
as much social and focus on driving
it's like yeah obvious but yeah you know
people are trying to find a story
that doesn't exist wherever they get
they always will they always will yeah
all right well thanks for joining us
next week of Vegas will be over
and the championship could be real close
again or could almost be over to all
depends on what happens yeah so we'll see
see all right Mike
all right so that just about wraps up
the auto guy show brought to you by
eBay Motors Kyle we've both been
away a lot this week I will just quickly
go first because I talked about it I
was in rainy rainy Sedona driving the
outback which is funny that you go to
the desert and it pours rain but you're
like the most capable vehicle for that
kind of weather yeah yeah that is a
little odd I mean it did make for some
very dramatic photos and I imagine it
also highlighted now that capability
of Subaru's all-wheel drive system
so there you go maybe they planned
it was all part of the plan they're
controlling the weather so where were
you this week so to make this as smooth
of a segue as possible I heard that
before I arrived for my driveway on my
trip it was also like the weather you
had it was cloudy and rainy and just
just all around miserable as you'd
expect when you're in southern
Spain which is where I was I was well
like I can safely say that I was there
to drive the BMW ix3 a vehicle that I've
been looking forward to for a long time
that you got to go see for a preview
when it rose revealed in the summer
and yeah I can say that there were
also some other things that I will
be talking about in a very future
episode but the ix3 is is the main
event and you'll be able to hear about
it in about a week and a half after
this episode launches and I have a lot
of thoughts because well Mike I mean
you you saw it at the preview I can't
think of another car that has shown up
in in my time here at AutoGuide that
is this new in every way like this
cars when people are like oh it's all
new you're like okay it's all new but
like it's a carryover engine or something
like that it's like this is a new
platform new infotainment new styling
direction new engine or sorry motors new
battery tech like everything so it's
um it's quite a lot so yeah that was
uh that was me and then I guess
yeah go ahead I was gonna say like
you're totally like a whole new
company started pretty much yeah
like it's yeah yeah um and then next
week uh I go nowhere and you go nowhere
what a surprise it's real nice um uh we
are doing a off-roady comparison um
you're finally gonna get a chance to
drive the the new pilot no the new
passport yeah and I'll get to drive
the new passport and we will put it
against its natural rival because
Honda and Toyota are always locked
never any battle so we're gonna put it
against the forerunner and yeah see uh
see how close it is because a forerunner
sort of the the sort of the icon in the
very capable has the off-road proper
bits but still is an SUV like it's not
as far off as a Wrangler Bronco but
it's got the body on frame ruggedness
so Honda is trying to get there with
their Unibody and I mean we know
Unibodies can off-road Jeep themselves
have been doing it forever with the
Grand Cherokee so I look forward to
we're not gonna do anything crazy
hardcore but no um I did see a video
this week on social media like a
super like a Forester with just some
all-terrain tires and stuff just
like climbing up um what is it like
Devil's Revenge or whatever in my
app so so Unibodies can perform
off-road and then actually as like a
weird little side feature next week
um I'm gonna be in a Wrangler we have
accidentally double booked because we
really wanted to do this comparison
but I'm gonna be in the enthusiast
Wrangler the two-door manual
soft top just the sport S trim so
pretty reasonably priced not a lot of
fancy stuff anywhere and I'm very
curious to see what it's gonna be
like to live with as we quickly
approach actual winter yeah it should
be interesting and I'm curious how it
will drive because we had the manual
Tacoma and we're kind of like a little
underwhelmed with the manual so let's
see what this is like yeah yeah so it's
gonna be a fun week all right well I
guess that wraps it up then we'll be
back next week with special guests
and some more news and reviews but
until then I'm having a good week so
long everybody
