My daughter, I have a, my daughter has a Prius and she just loves it.

So she's in college in New York right now.

And so like her car is paid off and so I didn't want to drive it.

And it was kind of like used it as my airport car that I just leave it at the

airport when I go and then I don't have to get a ride ever.

No one's ever going to mess with it.

Well, then I was like, well, what am I going to get now that she's gone?

So I got the best car ever.

I got a Hyundai Santa Cruz.

That cars, I've only had them a little while.

That car's almost got me in so many fights.

They think it's like someone, the same person that's driving like a super

route back or something and like I was kicking my wife to the doctor the other day.

And like, like, okay, the exit was coming up in downtown Austin and

first street, like the exit comes up really fast.

And so there's like a super duty in the slow lane.

I'm in the fast lane.

So I just gassed it and like changed lanes gradually, like a three lane lane

change in front of the suit.

The dude probably didn't even have to hit his brakes or nothing.

Like I gassed it and didn't impede as far as dude, they got all crazy in the

E lane and passed me and I'm like, all right, cool.

I went and passed him back and then the dude like pulled up next to me and

And so I like got out of like, let's go.

It's got a feature like auto drive, like driver assist.

Dude, I can drive it from here all the way to the airport and back

and never touch anything like it.

It's like you just said it, you set the distance of the car

and you just press the button and it drives itself like it's crazy,

which, you know, I normally wouldn't be into that.

But for a Hyundai Santa Cruz, I don't even really care if I drive it or not.

Like you're soon to be new father.

I mean, you've got to start making responsible decisions.

in there. So all the beads of the homes,

they have to sign a different thing now that basically says

is a deed restriction upon all the homes that are going next to the track.

This was the commissioner's way of like pleasing us,

at that new house prior to purchase would see what's

that's just going to be in his backyard with this above ground pool being like,

like they're doing some race village style homes next to it.

That's kind of like part of their solution.

drag strip is located adjacent to this property,

the Freedom Factory in Bradenton Motorsports Park,

and it has their parcel IDs motor vehicle racing and ancillary activities

conducted on the drag strip site and racetrack site are lawful existing

So I grew up in the 80s and the 90s and I went to like quote street races

and they didn't look anything like a Fast and the Furious movie, Street Race.

But now it is like if you go to like a grid life event,

it looks like a Fast and the Furious movie.

So I give them props for that.

Well, there we were early days.

Kevin was married and his wife, his ex-wife, Jen,

still a great friend of ours.

Charity and I and Kevin and Jen, we were on our way to SEMA

on Halloween night.

It was Halloween. Have kids.

So we trick or treated 10 o'clock in the evening.

We got on the road in a Honda Civic.

So driving from Salt Lake to Vegas is roughly five and a half, six hours.

We're so tired. It's in the middle of the night.

We decide to stop in St. George, Utah.

We stop at the village or the the the days in.

There's a village in across the parking lot.

So we just get a double bed.

We're just going to grab some sleep because we're both we're all everybody's tired.

Charity and I and Jen lay down.

He hadn't eaten anything.

So he goes across the parking lot to village in.

I got to know it was Danny's because I needed a move over my hammy.

So so there we are passing out and we get a knock at the door

I've been driving a Porsche for 63 years.

But the hot rodding is something I think if you want to have the most fun on four wheels

it's a hot rod.

And we just drove the proofer car to Lake Havasu two weeks ago to the Deuce meet.

So, you know, I just love the drive.

I've driven to, you know, just pointing in.

And I don't think there's any more fun way to get to a place that isn't enough.

Did you have, when you started getting into it and you realized like it's time, you know,

I've got to scratch this itch that I didn't get to do when I was, you know, in my childhood.

Did you have a list in your head that you were going to run through of ones that you,

or did that come later when you started getting some vehicles and you're trying to, you know

what, where did that thing go?

I'd like to get that.

Did you have that list already when you get started or did it kind of grow along the way?

And that's a really good question.

I absolutely did not have that list.

But the more I got involved in hot rodding, the more I realized how important it is to

everything that I love.

And so then I went through old hot rod magazines.

I saw the Pearson Brothers Coupe because like you it resonated.

It's unique.

And Bob Bouter, I was talking to him.

He said, we know that car is still running with the dry legs.

So he went out to El Mirage.

Tom Bryant was still running the car.

And what's interesting about Bonneville, and I've done a fair amount of that myself,

is that if something runs straight and good, you just keep it like it is and you just keep adding more power.

And you go out to Bonneville Speed Week.

There are cars that have been running out there for 40 years.

You know, once you get it right, you just kind of forget the recipe.

Yeah.

So Bob Bouter said, I know where that car is.

And so my son and I went out to El Mirage and it was a really clapped out thing.

You know, the salt has a way of eating its own.

It doesn't do too well.

So anyways, we bought the car and we brought it back up to Bouter's and Bouter just thought

that that wasn't going to work.

There's no hope for that car.

And across the street was a guy named Pete Chipporus who just kind of retired, lived up in Crestline.

So we invited Pete over and said, Pete, I think we can save this car.

Now, I really wanted to save it because I just paid good money for it.

Right, sure.

And so Pete, when he first got back, they sold Pete and Jake's and he was involved with SEMA.

Pete Chipporus is just one of the coolest guys that I've ever met.

But he decided he kind of wanted to get back into building cars and playing with cars.

So he took this project on.

The good thing about, one of the good things about Pete Chipporus, he knows everybody.

Pete Eastwood, great chassis guy, you've probably heard of him.

Steve Davis restored the Greer Black Prado Enquire.

Maybe one of the greatest metal workers, Ron Covel, Steve Davis ever.

And so he had the connections because I didn't know those guys.

And so he brought all those guys together to restore the Beerson Brothers Scoop.

And that car is 100% original, original chassis.

One of the things that are important to me is that the car is really what it is.

What makes up a car?

Is it the body, the chassis, the engine, the guy that built it, building a clone?

No, for me, it has to start with a chassis.

I think that's the most important thing to the originality.

But that's not what you wanted to hear because you guys build super chassis.

But it's very important.

It definitely starts with the chassis, right?

That's the foundation.

You talked about how important it is, like you said, to keep it original.

What is true to the car?

Not to make it a clone, not to make it inspired by or anything.

On this one, one, it was that nice back then.

That's how nice it was.

And how did you go about finding out what the level of quality is?

Because in pictures, you can't really see how slick one is.

Sometimes it's even hard on colors to really match the color.

Can't tell if everything's chromed.

So there's a lot of digging there.

You know, there's a lot of digging.

And there's a fellow named Greg Sharp, who's a historian.

When I met him, he was a Los Angeles policeman, but he had great archives.

And so when we started restoring that car,

Greg Sharp just came up with unbelievable pictures.

That car was also a cutaway in the early hot rod.

When it ran in 1950, they had a cutaway.

So Brian Burnett's father did a cutaway of that car.

So when we started gathering all the information,

we found out that there was a cutaway of the car, great photos, interior.

It was featured in Hot Rod Magazine.

We had all those archives available to us.

So we had a lot to work with, and we wanted to make it absolutely accurate.

As to did it look that cool when it was new, absolutely it did.

And I've got another photo for your B-roll.

It shows a whole field of cars running El Mirage.

And this thing looks like a sparkling gym out.

It just was gorgeous.

And when we unveiled the car in my garage, Dan Gurney was there.

And Dan Gurney, I've got a picture of him on the wall, more B-roll,

going out to Bonneville in 1950, the same year that that car went.

And you look at Dan's car, it was like, you know, sat and finished.

It was nothing very shiny.

Yeah, yeah, you know, kind of.

And so he was saying, we saw this car, we thought it was from another planet.

It was that nice.

And you'll see in the pictures, in period, these guys chromed everything,

just had everything so tidy.

So the answer is yes, it really was.

It's mind blowing to me.

Did you always own this property?

Did you look out and score it?

I bought this property from a tech company here when they went public

and moved that building and then redid it.

And then since then, I bought the property on that side and the property,

all that property and this property.

This we opened in August.

Every car is prepped to the 10s.

Every car, every car we sell, I'm a perfection.

It's got to be nice.

But then every car is serviced, every car is road tested.

I drive every car last before it gets delivered.

Every car is detailed, like we're going to Pebble Beach Concourse, the bottoms.

There's a rack over there in detail.

They just spent a week on the bottom of one car,

hand cleaning it with kerosene and solvent and soap and water.

We don't dry splast them.

We do them that way.

So every car looks like brandy.

You look under a car and it looks like a brand new car.

I had all the seat inserts done in Alcantair in this pattern right here.

So it's all stitched with that pattern.

Because that doesn't go with anything that tuck and roll in there.

I don't know what they were doing.

I bought it.

I don't even know why I bought it except I'm friends with all those guys.

And I had them send it to me just in their white gel coat.

You know, I said, we'll paint it.

So that's portion NATO wall of green.

Multi-matic made those, right?

Yeah, 50 of them.

They started with the four door frame and that's about all it's Bronco on.

It's a V8.

But yeah, that's a Porsche color.

And I did the hood black.

So that way it tied all this together.

Yeah, that's cool.

Yeah, it worked out because the grill's black.

And I just, yeah.

Yeah, I have no idea what to do with this.

Not a clue.

I think they're overdone in terms of all the shit they did to them.

I like less.

They're beautiful.

They're well done.

They don't drive and handle as good as they could.

Because these guys are more artistic and not the mechanical side.

So they have less torque than they should have.

And they just, it's just, it's a cool car.

It's just, you know, I'm just so spoiled with stuff that does so many other things.

It's like, I took this car in trade and it's a beautiful car.

It's a Kirkham.

It had the bright silver exhaust.

It had the polished wheels with the white centers.

It had white stripes.

They said, fix this car.

It never even got off the trailer and got cold before it was headed to the bar.

I leaned the windshield back four degrees because they stand them up too much.

Amazing.

Even this car, we made the color for this car.

I went to McLaren when I ordered this and they had terrible colors.

They look like bass boat colors, all their colors.

They do.

They look like a bass boat colors on their cars.

So I went over there and I said, this looks like shit.

I said, you guys need some sun out here because it was all overcast, right?

I said, this, this what's wrong with you guys.

You need sun.

You can't see colors.

So I went home and we made this color.

And then I've got this leather on in Italy, all new back leather and did that.

And then I painted the wheels, my color.

I said, don't worry about the wheels.

I'll just do a my color.

And then, you know, they had those discs on the wheels.

I took those off and machined the caps to fit.

Is this an hour car?

No, it's not actually.

And then see, this is carbon.

You ever seen carbon that small?

That's cool.

That's a small wing piece.

Really tailored looking.

And so when they, they had just got that carbon, hadn't done a car yet with it and said, we're

going to, we think we're going to do this.

I said, okay, we'll do my car with it, right?

So I didn't ask him what she was going to cost on the price sheet.

That carbon was 300,000 bucks.

It's been, it's been a really good time.

I run full speed on a beach cruiser into the front quarter panel of a cop car with a stolen

stop sign hammer and a bicycle.

Early 20s, one of my best buds lived down in Hermosa Beach.

I spent a lot of time down in Hermosa Beach.

We got to kill that bottle if he's going to fucking autograph it.

He was, he was a mentor.

Me.

He was a names mark and he worked at picture car warehouse with me.

He was like, he was the brain mechanic.

Yeah.

When I was some dumb, dumb 20 year old.

And so he lived in Hermosa Beach and there was this error where I like to drink Jack Daniels.

It made me six foot five Brad Pitt.

So the middle of the week we would go down and I swear at this was a Tuesday or Wednesday

we go to Hermosa Beach and there's a place called the underground.

He had beach cruisers, bikes, go beach cruise.

Tuesday, like two o'clock closed the place down and this bar was on an alleyway.

You and Dickies at that point.

So the first sign there's it was him and his girlfriend.

But I've fallen three or four times in silence at the beach and so somebody called the cops at some point and heard this

Cops had pulled them over. I I didn't know this. I'm still finally got my balance, right? I'm going

So they were asking them about a dude with a bike with a stop sign. First of all, they got stopped first

They go we got we heard word

So I'm pedaling I'm pedaling I'm about 100 yards from the intersection where I just got to get speed go up a half a block and over

Finally balanced I'm tacking tacking tacking tacking

There's the intersection is two o'clock nobody's out doing this and then there's some headlights coming like dude

They're gonna see me. I have a stop sign

I get in the middle of the intersection car stops

It's the cop car and I can't stop

I I joust and I run into this

They suspected that we still a stop sign because there was a call coming in

We're first of all, it was a life changing lesson out of that. No, I want to I want to know where the sign's at

So like a few things that happened for us during the launch of the the brand that was, you know, very unique was

one the

You know the introduction of youtube

Right as this video place that and this is before modern youtube, right?

Like modern youtube is all about the creator. This was viral youtube

Like can you make something that'll do 10 million plus views like that all the people we were talking to in year one

No one else was automotive

But everybody else, you know in sort of that same space we were in we're doing these massive 10 20 30 40 million

View videos like that's what you went to youtube for was to try to get virility out of it

And then we were there when you know, we launched kent racing team was the same year that

Facebook opened up pages for brands because before that facebook was just a you know, it was

Originally it was a college peer-to-peer thing and then became kind of more like a friendster version of that

And it was and then all of a sudden they allowed brands on and we were there early as you know

The ken block brand and then later on the hoonigan brand and then a year after hoonigan launched

Instagram started and we were there we were there so early

That most people still thought instagram was just a filter app called hips dramatic

Like people didn't understand the difference early on like it was still felt like filters, right?

and people didn't realize it was its own platform and we were there early on and

You know and then you know, we were we were always trying to be there early on

I think that's what our sort of our goal was and

You know and then when youtube shifted we weren't there. There was a lot of people there before us, you know

Roadkill mighty karma and a bunch of people were doing it, but we kind of came in with a brutality of like, oh, you guys are doing that once a week

That's cute. We're gonna do this every day

You know what we're gonna do it twice a day and at some point you're putting you know one point

We're putting out 14 pieces of content a week, which I now apologize to everybody else on youtube because we certainly raised the bar

But people were expecting to create

But it was this idea of like, oh, we're a year or two late to the youtube space

You know drive had already done their thing network a

We were helping with the network a stuff and a lot of the drive guys were all

Old zero to 60 guys are connected to zero to 60

but

You know, we went in and we kind of you know, just I think it was it was about yeah

A sequence of things but it was also like every time we got into something we gave it our all

And we're like really like okay. Let's take this really seriously

Like let's really really go after this right like everyone else was looking at instagram is this thing they had to do

Like oh, we got to make sure we do this where we're having three hour meetings about what we're posting

Right, like like when we when we decided we were gonna do it. It was very kind of surgical on on what we were doing and

You know, I think one of the things that's often wasn't seen from the outside looking in

Was that we were very data driven is to like what's working? What's not working?

Where because if you watch him again, you're like, how did these fucking idiots figure out how to do this stuff?

Right, but that was very much the perception versus the reality model right of like, you know

There was a lot of hard work kind of put into it. I know everyone thinks all we did was do donuts in the parking lot

Donuts were unfortunately kind of only when the cameras were on

The rest of it was was figuring out what was working and you know, and how do we keep doing it, right?

I was talking to Vinny the other day

And he's talking about, you know, just being sour about everything with Hoonigan

And I was like, you know, I was like, it's funny. Sometimes I was like, I was like you you seem, you know, like it's an issue for you

More so than the rest of us. He's like it was such a good moment in our lives when it was when it was perfect

Like when the when it was all just working. He's like, I really just wish I could go back to that

Everybody was so good in this one moment, you know

Anything great that seems to like be the way it goes. Life is not about

30 years of perfect moments

It's no, I know it's looking back on the perfect moments that you've had and hoping you have a few more

Someone said this to me the other day success is not linear and uh, you know, I think happiness isn't linear either

You kind of have these different moments and you know, I when I was doing

Hoonigan, I spent most of the time regretting that I didn't enjoy zero 60 more because I was zero 60 for me very

You know, I I I failed out of college like I didn't all my other friends were way more successful

All my other friends went to college. None of the kids that grew up went to college

But all of my friends who I went to school with

um

You know

Had these jobs out of school and we're doing well and like, you know, we're living in apartments by themselves

And I'm like still got like multiple roommates. Like nothing was felt like it was really working out for me

And so when like zero to 60 actually hit it was this like, you know

A mix of imposter syndrome and everything else hit and I was like, I will

I will work an 18 hour day every day to make sure that this thing matters

Right and I will put if if everyone else got the is is smarter than me or

Got a step ahead of me or did all these other things. I will make up for it in time

Right, like I will just put the time in as much time as I possibly can

and

In doing so while

Um, some of it I think came across. I think I kind of stopped enjoying it

You know, like I like I look back now at some of the stuff I got to do and I'm like, how was I?

It was so cool that I got to do that and

It was like on and over and then I was on to the next thing and I was you know, I was probably worried

I was probably while I was doing it. I was probably worried about the thing

I had to do five days from them instead of just being present in that moment and and who think it was a lot of that too

You know, and I think now I'm trying to be like, all right

I need to be like really enjoying the thing I'm doing today because I have this

Great history of you know, two decades worth of stuff. I've done in park culture and look there were moments that were

Amazing because a lot of other moments. I was like, man, I wish I just stopped to smell the roses a little bit longer while I was there

That's the best piece of advice

It's crazy the way that works when you

Like have success

You reach a point where you look back and it is you look at all those events

Like even in my career, I look back at all that stuff and you're like, holy fuck

Dude, the things we've we were there. Dude, we did that we did that

But in the moment it was like pinch yourself in the moment

Yeah, in the moment you were thrashing to get there

And you were probably nervous as fuck that whatever you built needed to perform or you were so focused on that

That being a success for your business and your future. You never you didn't stop and like

Enjoy it and then halfway through when it does perform. You're thinking about how the fuck we're gonna top this

Yeah, you're thinking about the next thing. I gotta keep fucking rolling

People are gonna expect this the day is not over yet at least fucking enjoy it and then think about that tomorrow

It's almost like the double edged like you wouldn't have gotten there if you didn't have the passion for it

But then you can't appreciate

everything that your passion got you because you're worried about

Staying at that level and building the next one. Yeah

You had quite the uh quite the little the spill there and all seriousness all seriousness that was uh

Yeah, I was uh got lucky. That's for sure. I mean about 12 feet landed on my hands and knees and uh

Could have bust I didn't hurt my back or my neck or I I don't think I hit my head. I might have but uh
