Does professional radio show? Drive.
After hours. Another Tuesday night, online
with mr. Edward bunting mr.
David Prince, mr. Scotty do Johnson.
Mr. Is Eros actor. And our special guest for
tonight, mr. Andrews worth.
How you doing, guys? Thanks, you don't.
Well, so tonight's first time on the on the show from just, for yourself, Andrew. Yeah, it's been a long time
listener. We've met a hybrid cars, &
Coffee and we've spoken on on the interwebs many times through the through the magic of the Instagram nation that we that we call Instagram, welcome to the show, my friend.
Thank you. Look, as I was saying you guys
are flying. Like I'm I'm a big fan of the
show and to be able to chat to you guys is huge.
So I thank you so much for letting me be a part of it.
Yeah, I've learned so much from the show as well.
You know my my knowledge is very limited to a few cars which we'll talk about. But yeah, it's been awesome to
hear all these stories and all and all of the knowledge that's within this. This Zoom group, it's fantastic.
Some of them might admit true. Yeah, exactly.
He's got like six extra Wheels on the back.
You know you well it's got its got like 45 turbochargers and and and and two extra spoilers for for maximum downforce.
You know, we talked in the real stuff here in concert.
Yeah, I know. Yeah, I can tell Pain.
Even though I know it makes too much power.
It seems? She likes to do know.
He breaks the diner. Yeah.
And apparently, you can't drive it in Zen mode.
Correct. You gotta be in full anger all
the time you ask. It's in the manual.
It's enough about my typhoon in car, that's which will, which will do carbs before your to, to, to you Andrew.
And we'll have a chat to you and the cars you own and stuff, but I hope that you guys have all been Doing well, it's been another amazingly busy week in terms of the car space for I think, for a lot of us, especially you Scotty, we've got a lot to talk about, but we'll start with a very important point out on during the week. A very important figure in
ricki's life has come down with saying something.
So, so important. That, you know, I mean, we call
Rizzi rice after Rick Ross, right?
And Rick Ross is a famous famous American rapper, right, and what is he said, was you that that is made you now start walking because you cannot He dropped a bit of a bombshell.
Now, we know Rick Ross is a cars man in his, his music label is called Maybach, Music Group, it is.
And as he usually says realest shit, he ever wrote was sitting in the back of a Maybach. Yeah, I mean, that was his
homeboy. Jay-Z that said that while they
were sitting in the back of a Maybach.
Absolutely. And this week is come out, and
he's basically, you know, it's a message from God to say, Don't drive a Tesla because if you get in one it might drive you to the police and people of my complexion including Rick Ross, you know, me and him are basically the same complexion you blood. I'm not at this point.
That's the, it's a message to all of us.
Basically say if you get into a vehicle, especially if it's off an electric car and it may be able to Some self driving capability of my drive. You to the police.
Now, usually we have dr. Allen deep Singh.
Who debunk some of these myths but he since he's not here I believe record just let's just roll with it.
So just that's what's happened and Maddie, you know, I'm devastated about it. I've had to park it up.
I'm looking up. I was looking up 2019 to 2020.
Kia cerato institutions and they used to have the Cerrado.
No well I sold it and now I've got to buy it again because the message has come that you know and if I don't well if I don't buy the Cerrado again, I don't know what I'll be doing.
So it's this is where things are at.
I'm having a I need a lot of Well, will it will get to David's updates in a minute but he'll be able to help you with with a possible car. But we'll we'll talk about, but
any other updates with humans the the celerio still still hitting the Toge or yeah, celerio still hittin the tailgate. I just wished.
It was manual. I've been investigating Daihatsu
midgets and still have years. Well, there are wacky looking
thing. Yeah.
How cool would that be like? But finding one is I think it's
there's very few of them. So if you guys, I think I saw
one for sale recently online at the other ones at the front, the wheel in the front. And yeah.
Yeah, yeah. But then again, there's another
vehicle that's come along. That's read that.
And, you know, I'm getting out of a red Tesla to go into a red vehicle. And if if it happens to be a
number one vehicle by a brand, the Holly respect to that and you know I'm saying it could be a possibility, you know.
We will talk Rizzi Ross. We will talk.
Well, it's good to see you, mate.
Good to know that you're there. You're going to get fit by
walking a lot because that no longer in the Tesla's.
And and Rick Ross, if you are listening, my friend just just know that you have a phone and I can track you with that as well so bad. Well you know, Ricky rozay is,
he's not he's not a fan of the police for all the right reasons, you know. No, I think he wasn't X prison
guard. He wasn't asked, but we don't
want to get, you know, the truth coming between the good story.
Actually, I will say, I forgot to mention picking up the mistake. Ladies eqv on Thursday, from
Keel or now this is seven-seat luxury supposed to be for airport transfers. So that's, I'll have that for a
week and then I've This one we speak about the ionic 5.
The head of PR at high-end. I is going to lend me, 20, 23
Hyundai, ioniq technique all wheel drive as soon as it lands in to Melbourne, in a couple of weeks time.
That's awesome. So we will have that for a week
or so and then the head of PR Volvo is going to lend me a c-44 a fortnight in March. So there's a couple of vehicles
lined up. I'll obviously share what I
think they're like and if we happen to sneak in a bit of a Car Talk meeting between? Yeah, then you know I'm saying
will be will be out there to on display in.
Anyone can test-drive it. I think it's pretty
straightforward. When do you pick up the AGA eqv?
You just first day? Well, next Tuesday night, I'm
seeing, can't talk direct from the sentence makes absolutely Rob, we're from this conceited. Qv0 Studio mobile Studio.
You look like you've been in like in a couple rounds with Mike Tyson, doesn't it let's fold up nicely as swollen up nicely. You're in the unit bit of the
wars man. Lugo.
Hopefully, hopefully younger man and getting better at.
What's happening in your world, my friend?
Well, I haven't been on for I think a couple weeks except for the special one that we did the extra one last week.
I guess I'll start with my repairs so I thought I'd repaired that wheel on the r31 turns out I didn't.
So on that day I removed everything sanded back everything got it so smooth any kind of excess old paint removed so when I dropped the piece back in and everything it was sued immaculate, it dropped in nicely.
Look like it's sealed up, timed it even more than I did last time. So it really nice and tight put
about Connie PSI in it. Got my soapy water sprayed
everywhere all around it on the front and on the back of it.
No bubbles was I yes. Finally fixed it, put it back on
because I was taking it to the workshop tomorrow to get those suspension parts put on come back tomorrow morning and it's completely Lat, hmm, so I know what's going on with the super wheelsets. Take that off, check this dodgy
stock. One on took it down.
I thought it's alright. I'll figure that one out.
They're just putting some suspension B, nice and easy.
Take him a day and I'll get it back, get a call and he goes, That's my lower control arms. Someone's tried to fix him and
it's dodgy welded rubbish. Can I get some Secondhand ones.
I was like yeah. I should be able to solve some
contact the person he's like, yep, I can send you two got up from for left and right side for the front like sweet.
That's all and you know, obviously Oz post still hasn't arrived yet. This was all happening early
last week. So as you know, told him and
he's like, that's fine, we can stay here, it's all good.
And then he said, oh, by the way, your ball joint, one of them has The little sir, click and the grease nipple.
The other one's got nothing. And I meant to be there and had
fallen out, or that's what I thought.
I said, well, did you have a look through the box and everything cases for now? Because, yeah, done all that
snot. They're like great.
So I thought. Okay, so now I've got a contact
this place. Mmm about five minutes later, I
get a call back again from. I was trying to fit your
steering rack boots. They're the wrong ones.
So there's three types you've got for the manual, steer, our 31's, the JDM. So the Japanese are three ones
and their minds the TRW and I double and triple checked and it even says on the order that I got the TRW ones.
So somehow they sent the wrong ones, I'm going to get them to chase that up because I've done some research online and the sizing, I cannot find what the Sizing should be sometimes, it says it's 155 Mill. And then the manual, steer one
is 180 ML, but then I've seen it the other way around where the TRW one that I want is 180 ML and the manual steer ones short.
I was like wolf. What I meant to do, I can't get
the right the right one. I don't know.
So take the order. Yeah, that's that's what are
they? So they can order that one.
So the control arms haven't arrived yet but then expected tomorrow. But I mean it's not supposed so
who knows? I did get the circlip and
everything. That's all Rives that came today
and I got a nice service kit. To, when I was 10, I got an ad,
it was weird and AD popped up just on Facebook.
A book, I wasn't looking at anything to do with this stuff, but service parts for the Subaru, it came up with the whole kit so it's all genuine Subaru stuff.
And as for the same price that I buy the oil and an oil filter and with this kit I get the same pain right oil I use I get the oil filter I get new oil drain plug And ring for and also the upper cleaner that goes into the engine to cool.
Gentle Subaru. Also for the same price that I'd
get just those two items for so gonna say no to that.
Yeah, other than that, that's it Car Wise for now.
So just checking, once they do these couple things to the car, it's ready for roadworthy, essentially.
Right. If I can get that wheel fixed
stock wheels, the stock wheels are going to need new tires.
They Alden cracked and yeah, they would pass.
So did you ask him just to go and make sure that there was nothing else needed for it? Like, just make sure that we can
get this thing on a club. Permanent ASAP, Scotty, we need
to make this thing happen. Yeah.
Well once this is done the whole front bushings and everything is all brand-new. Yeah, I love like new will be
absolutely brand-new nothing, no old Parts, nothing worn-out, done everything for the front little bit.
Tight as a to drive really well. That's what I'm hoping for.
That's the plan. So Scotty just double-checking
in this case, size does matter. That was all my Speedo stop
working again to win it meant what I said, when I dropped it off there and then I'll come back and speed, I started working. Yeah, yeah, it doesn't work now.
Yes. Yeah.
Just as magically doesn't mean, it's good to know that it does work. So just got to find out that
connector somewhere. Assuming, we just need a new
one, but I'm not overly fast. Did you get them back another
transmission? Not that holds, but as I said,
I'm changing to. I got the whole manual
transmission anyway, so I'm not going to get that rebuilt, I'll just service it and if that doesn't fix it, it's so drivable. It's fine.
Until I swap it over. There's no point in me getting
that rebuilt when it's coming out.
Anyway, absolutely, the headlight issue up by flicker, that's all sorted. That's right.
Yeah, thanks a lot. Sorry, I want this card on
Scotty. Yeah, I get that a lot.
I just need to get an order electrician to come out.
That's not. I think that'll be too hard.
It doesn't need to go to a shop or anything.
They just need to come out. Check it properly over all the
electrical arcing. It's just missing it Earth.
Somewhere up there. This meant to be one that I
mentioned a while ago and there's no Earth therefore it.
So that's probably why it's planar.
And not working and why the indicator blinks at Super speeds? So we'll get that Scotty will
get that. Yeah, pretty close sorry.
Scotty white. What year is it?
The are 31. 1989 89. Yeah.
And I said for last ones? Yeah.
Such a, such a great model. Yeah.
Actually about my like that fish.
Yeah. Me too awesome.
It just it just looks right. Like like you know people in
their head picture, a certain car, they picture like one model for me when I picture when I went to school and I always pictured our 31's. I yeah.
I don't know why it's something I always do.
There are 30 and our 31's or what kind of popped in my head?
Yeah, Japanese Volvo 740, basically.
Well, I did get the right ignition coil, I picked up, I didn't know that there's two different ones, they change it from 89 to 1990. Hmm so mine fell on that one.
I got the one that fitted all the rest except for those two years. We'll put it this way study.
Okay. Keiichi tsuchiya.
I know, and I can quote him saying this, he's like what he saw this, it was driving like a tuned r31.
He's like, I and I thought he went a real man's car and I'm like, Scotty, you've got a real man's car right there.
If keiichi tsuchiya says it, it's official it's happening.
The other one is driving had. It was a copy as well, be one.
Yeah, that's the idea. It was cool.
That was awesome, mr. Prince updates with you.
Not, thanks, many updates with me.
Got a couple of things, had a productive weekend, Saturday was spent on that. It'll I'm sure it will talk
about that with, with a couple of the likely Lads from the cart or podcast someday. I was spent working on my 77
Civic wagon. Just doing a few more bits and
pieces. My aim is to get that to Phillip
Island on the The 11th of March which the Honda Club is doing a 50th anniversary celebration of the release of the Civic in Australia called the Festival of Civic to only dice so yeah I'd like to get that data. Have some early cars there as
well as we're trying to get as many models.
Different models and different Generations there as we can we'd like to get 50 there. Is there a Nifty cars?
It's really the day chances but we'll see how we go.
Then in one is online, the N1 is advertised now.
I-i've, it's had plenty of use its head, few saves, I had a call from Sydney. I had a contact from a guy in
Sydney today, who I guy I know of through the industry who's interested in it. So we'll be talking this week at
some stage, most girls, your chance 40s.
Now evolved. Take long David, like I said, it
is one-of-a-kind hence, the name.
That's right. Besides having said that I would
still like to come and have a look at it.
I've got, we welcome as you always have been.
I'm not I'm not in any disparate heridas to sell it.
It really is. Just purely a matter of.
I think it's I think I would prefer to update it while I while it's still only done 50,000 cases instead.
Alien is immaculate condition as it is, and yeah, if the opportunity presents itself. But I don't expect a lot of a
lot of messages on it only because a lot of people that would know what it was. I mean, it's going to be quite a
specific sort of person to B. I think I shared key to search
up for it, wouldn't it? Yeah, well I think as I What do
they call it? Some sort of add create create,
a specialist, specialized dad or something like that.
So, but it actually is up there as an N1 often with those sorts of things, you have to put in in the something different say, no, it's actually did not that it's this, but it's the only only anyone online at the moment. Not surprisingly, but I shared
it with Space Case Squad. I think they call themselves Kei
cars, Australia earlier in the week and that's that's generated a bit more interest. But as I said, happy to talk to
To people about it. I really didn't know what to
price it but at because there's none to compare it to that's half the price of an S60. He seeks more people so you
know, that's it. I mean that's the thing that's
the comparable car when you when we were talking about it last week, David, it's you know, if we are going to forty, forty-five grand, 50 Grand, and what's so great about it, you know, like, but this genuinely like, you know, your car genuinely looks awesome. It's got this.
Troll modern. Look that very few K cars have
great. And as as some people in this
group can attest to I mean that it does pretty much anything.
Any other car will do, I would like to tow a horse float with them. I don't think they think we'll
go down too well, but someone said, oh well, someone said today actually Timmy. Oh yeah, it's be fine for around
the city. I said, maybe I'd rather to
Adelaide, you know, in nine hours and sitting on 110k is all the way in. And and got about four and a
half litres per 100 case, you know, I mean, how can you argue with that? It did everything.
I could 90% of people need, I think that wouldn't cars are, they're just not a thing in Australia yet.
So let's see how we go. Let's see if we can
single-handedly, I think mr. Bigglesworth later in the show,
actually about that because single-handedly I think he's raised the profile of certain other gas.
And one mission is indeed. I I salute you.
I can see you know, that movie voice.
That that one man. Yeah the only other update of
God in one aside. I don't know way home today
coming down every road and I sent some photos around in the, in the group and did a complete Double Take, in fact, had to do it, go around the block and come back outside.
A bezoar. Options, which casually we've
talked about Abby's auctions before they had a chimaera SLE there a couple of months ago. They've had, they had a remove
that bizarre Alpha 90. They had with if I beat it on
that. Yeah, thousand.
Kazon hours or something? Yeah.
Yeah. Are we past that?
And there were about a dozen cars.
Lied about the front. They were all certainly had a
subcontinent. Look about them is hence hence
my my questioning of where were you Is it done?
Is it entertaining duster? I'm not sure why, it's Hindustan
Ambassador, just an ambassador. So for people who don't know
what that is, if you see any Italian Italian Indian movie, these are the cars that are taxis, they're actually based on a Morris Oxford and they were they've been through do produced in India from 1957 to 2014. So basically unchanged in that
time and there were about seven of them lined up out front.
And of Abby's options, one of the one of them's, not one of them's a Humber super snipe. Well, I was going to continue
it. So there's also a walls lie.
Yes. And I never three or four feet,
eleven hundreds. Yeah, I think you remember a
couple of years ago. There was a, there was a
Bollywood film filmed in Altona and I reckon these will be the car from that cars. From that film.
Well, no, they're actually from a Netflix series will chant Aram which Is filmed in Melbourne. Well, that's vile.
So there were props from the moving.
So some are imported all of them, but most of them are pretty shabby, you know, and look pretty shabby the photos around a pretty shabby in real life, couple of the fields.
However, and I think one of our friend Benny moves to it, they've been wrapped, so they're only vinyl wraps.
So some of them are wrapped in Black, summer, wrapped in different colors but one of the and the the fellow from, I pulled up outside and was having a look at them.
And one of the guys from Abby's came and he gave me the details about them and he said that they just needed to be moved from where they were stored after the show.
They can't see they're going to use them again, boom.
You know, let's just get rid of them.
So they were going to be listed next week at Abby's with very low starting prices. But I said, wow, the fierce
actually one of them especially look to really tidy and really straight. The interior was lovable any in
the guy said, Heavenly the prep the Producer of the person Source in the prop. So will someone in the inner
production team? They were short a couple of
cars, so they actually contacted the fear car club.
All right, just wrote a check. Just just bought two of these
cars to two or three of these cars to fit in.
So potentially they're not necessarily, you know as balmy and Ricky as you as you can. So it was just it just
absolutely gobsmacking to just drive past and I driven past this morning they were there, you know?
And This afternoon is like a dozen cars lined up at the front. It was, it was quite, quite
sure. I bid on one of those fits
David, well, I'll talk to you later about that but I'm happy to go back and take some more photos, but I had a look at it's it's got red interior. A really pretty sort of pale
sort of, that sort of Ducky, greeny blue color and it's been wrapped a bit in blue and a bit in Black.
Maybe I shouldn't be talking about on the podcast because it yeah thousands of listeners will go and get up.
Don't put this one out until I buy the food.
Even though we're bordering countries lmd sings but and I may be talking completely out of character here but I don't think there's many people from the sub-continent that are proud of that vehicle. There are not many Little Indie
little old ladies that actually keep them garage with blanket over them in the garage. Well they need you know blankets
can be useful. Many other purposes.
These vehicles are just not as vintage as maybe, what, what is it a beats option? Yeah, what they might be making
them sound like you think there might be 2011 models, 2012 had the badges on them and the ambassador of edges on them.
So yeah, I'd say that would be sort of 80s or 90s cars.
And I had like, a full brocade sort of roof lining, and seat covers and stuff inside and so sick, it was really interesting to see but no Gandhi editions there because that's that's supposed to be, you know, it's the opposite of high-end eyes in addition cars because the Gandhi addition on the, on the Hindustan Vehicles is generally, the more Zen the more peaceful one that is power. As the hind diet and series cars
are just aggressive for no reason.
Mine. Are they the G line yet?
Do you like our very good Mr? Bunting, hello.
Hello, my friend updates. I'm still driving around in the
BMW 130i manual, which has had one call on it yesterday, but then he ends up buying another car but he can't afford another manual 130 because there aren't any.
So I think he must have bought something completely different.
So you haven't had a lot of interest in that still driving it which is a pleasure, you know, I don't mind fucking around in that but I'd like someone to buy it.
The Volkswagen multiband has had its service and DSG service done. It's just had its rear bumper
refinished because it had a little bit of clear coat peel on it. So that's been done on picking
it up tomorrow and it's um yeah looking and running well.
So that next step will be roadworthy and read Joe and then for sale So so I'm wondering when I can get original appointment. I might have to go out country
to get one sooner rather than later because you can't always get one in Melbourne within a reasonable time.
Frame with that. Come with being not a nice dark
gray color. Are you going to go full base
plate? Or you going to go black and
white slim? Well, I do like a black and
white slim line and I think the car needs.
Yeah, I think. If I'm going for for good money
on that car, it needs to look the part.
Yes, I think a slim line is in order on that K.
Yes. What else?
David alluded to our Affairs on Saturday which I did hint at this in another episode. Essentially I inherited 15
filing cabinets and we're talking too big for drawer one's full of car, brochures and press kits from my friend's father who worked for Toyota for 30 years and was an avid Porter / collector of all this stuff for his work.
Mainly but yeah, he's sort of hung on to this for years and years and years and finally, No, you have to get them out of where they were stored and he said, he said, you want them and I was like, yeah, yeah, I do want those.
So we kind of hide entire truck to fit these cabinets in with the power lift tailgate. And you know, I sort of helped
loaded them up with the previous owner and then drove it down to an undisclosed location where Matthew and David came and help me unload them all, which was a good half day's work.
But then after we washed our hands and sort of put all the cabinets in and the good thing is, they're all in order, you know? 2:13 or in order and then 14 and
15 to like extra press kit type materials.
So 1213, it's it starts today and it ends up in it ends up in.
It said, you know, so then it was kind of a free form.
A DJ of course, went straight to the Ford drawer and was rifling through for the laser typhoon information, LTD information.
And also, I've been a Toyota Camry V6 down the end.
I thought David will go straight for Honda, but I don't think You did I think you went down to Mazda or something?
Oh yeah. It was sort of crowded down that
fga who because it was so much room.
Yeah. I was literally a bit taken
aback from not knowing where to start their way too much.
Each of those you picture, you know, it's a row of 15, filing happens in every drawer. You open is groaning with
brochures and but it's sort of all in order.
So you open mares Dad. It's like Is one-to-one and is a
whole file on one to ones. And then there's three, two,
three, and then there's three. And then there's six men and
six, two, six, and the Vans, and there's not much that's not there really to be fair. That was Automotive, pornography
like that. I was a freaking believable.
You haven't even sold tickets to that undiscovered almost as brochure gigs were in a little world of our own for a few hours there. Just just want your duty to it.
Actually did come out and just laugh didn't exist.
We had our three chairs lined up, just piling the fruit.
Give up files after hanging files.
Exactly. And it's in the good thing is,
it's an era that we all love. So I was told it was sort of
1988 through to about 05. Are you telling about what you
found, tell them what your yeah, which it is what?
There's all there's older stuff there.
So there's 70 stuff and there's 80 stuff in there that I wasn't expecting to be in there. I mean Mitsubishi Andrew as an
example there's an entire You know, two drawers of that.
Well, there's magnets just chronological magnet.
Wow, he combination, you know, it's some is brochures but also press articles that have been cut out or photo copied from the time. So you can sort of read the
brochure and the Associated Press articles.
It's quite you'll have to have to have a barbecue down, there is absolutely. So yeah, that was fun, it was
exhausting, but it was fun. And I just thought, well, I
can't say no to this. I have to even No, it's
logistically. A pain in the ass.
I have to I have to have this material.
You know? What am I going to do with it?
I do not do anything with it. I think I'll probably just refer
to it at my leisure and when I die, someone will probably total. Number one.
Yeah, curse me and then they'll take it all to the tip.
So I was under Don't there wasn't much on Leyland.
You know, there was a Rover sd1 brochure and a Range Rover, couple should Wane Grover in that Leyland file, but it was also a Moke brochure and I was very excited to find them and then after that, I thought, what's that, what am I, I pulled out the original Moke owners manual like you know, untouched and I thought well I was going to buy one of those offline somewhere, but I have it now fantastic.
So I didn't expect that that I can wow the sun.
Yes, I spent The afternoon reading or the later afternoon, after I went for a swim and then I came back and had read my Moke owners manual, which is not a saying to a friend.
It's not a big manual because there's not really a lot of car that unique features like yours, no door locks, no windows, no.
Like this really just five switches and an engine.
So yeah, there isn't a lot of instruction you need.
So that was fun. That was fun and I can't wait to
get back to the undisclosed. Station and peruse further, you
know, there's there's a lot there that I haven't that I haven't read will definitely get back there.
Was David early on, I know, David was in the message or any pulled out. All original 121 fun top.
Look at all the colors. You can get.
You know. Right.
Yeah. That was cool.
That was that is awesome Ed. I'm very pleased but yeah,
there's part of this has actually alarm me a bit but Particularly about our holes me about our host that did not reach out for a Ford. Falcon a you.
He did. I did.
That is based off the, a you Falcon.
So yeah, just yeah, yeah, that's all from me.
I think very good as it has the most going yet.
That's on the most update on the mic.
Yeah. When you saw it at cars &
Coffee, it was driving, but it still had some inherent issues.
Mainly the motor was moving, you know, far too much on its mounts. The there.
It's a couple of engines dead. He's up top.
Aside from the lower engine mounts and they were not doing what they'll need to do. So the motor was clunking around
in the engine bay causing it. Something to rub on something
and grinding and burning smell. And it wasn't right.
And I knew that. So I kind of crawled it to that
event in crawled at home again which wasn't too far.
But I took it out to a minion Moke repair place and that was my number one sort of thing on the list but they also said the tuning was out which I knew it was popping and farting like it.
I mean they do a little bit but it was doing it too much so they They only had a four day and a rectified, or they had a window to sort of allocate to that car. So they fix the tuning fix the
engine mount steady things. And to consequently was just
driving a lot better now, which is good, awesome.
It's not done. You know, there's still the
front end, shocks are collapsed and rubbers and bushes.
They said they all need doing. The exhaust still has a flange
of the front that leaks and a bit unless you get the engine mounts, right? And everything Mountain.
Exactly right. They said it's very hard to get
that exhaust seated, right? So I think I've got to throw
another few, you know, dollars at it.
But I'm just going to bide my time with that because I paid for a few other things recently. So if I can sell them, sell a
multiband and sell it in W, then maybe I'll tip a bit more into the Moke, so but I can get in it and drive it.
Wherever as it is, it's awesome to.
It's a, it's the least I can get in and drive it, you know.
Yeah. So I'll keep chipping away at
the Moke. Yeah, I was blown away seeing at
highball a few weeks back. I mean, even it out, I know you
said you got a lot of things, you still have to work on it, but I haven't seen a clean modok for a long time.
I actually can't even remember the last time I saw a really clean one, I mean they're out there.
The it's is that well I've never seen one of highball.
And they've been soaking my balls.
I'm sort of amazed that there hasn't been anyone turn up in a mope or you know, they're not that Rare, but they're not that rare. Like you go down to Port, see
and there's, you know, three or four in the Main Street whizzing around, you know, that's where people keep them at beach houses and things. But but what's hard to find is
one that hasn't been painted, 18 times and different colors and modified in wrong wheels and roll bars and bigger engines.
And that's what's hard to find. And that's that's what to be
rare about. Mine is, it's very original?
Yeah, great. So, yeah, that's the Moog, very
happy you, all right. You Matthew Myself, what have I
been up to? Yes, typhoon.
Now I have had the typhoon since 2015, which is, well, now looking back on it and basically throughout my ownership it's been, it's been growing about it.
Never had a single issue with it, but you did.
It wasn't spooling up, right there?
Something wrong with the turbo? Yes, correct.
Yes, that is correct. Good memory, mr.
Bunting. That was the the turbo actuator
was I was just The diaphragm inside of it died.
So, it was not boosting correctly, but now that's not sorted. However, so it's hard after
Mike, you know, I've had the if bush has done as I mentioned, and everything else is a right, like the dips fine, but it's still got a little bit, like, kind of low speeds taking off, like a little bit of backlash and my brothers, like, take it to this guy. Did this, this Ford guy who just
who specialized in Fords and he he's been, he's an older gentleman. That's been working on for
years. Just get him to have a look at
it. Just look at him, just just,
just letting me take it for a drive and see.
So I called him and he's like, yeah, bring it down.
Let me have it. Let me have Assassin.
Took it down there today after work and you took it for a drive and he's like, yeah, and he's are going to know exactly what this is. Oh my god.
Well, that's good. You're not going to like it.
Oh my God. Craft.
Okay, so he's like, it's got, he's like because you've got the hardened bushes in the These like it's actually better for the card it really, tightens it up stops a bit that bit of slop, but the diff that that's in it. There are the quite he's, like,
performance cars are quite fragile, usually, but he's like, there's like these aren't, these are fragile, it's just they, they just harder in part because they, you know, they work harder. They push their limits and he's
like, the others, they still feels fine.
But the what's happening is the the crown will in the div has got a bit of bit of movement and that's what's causing it to do that. Lil Bit of a little bit of noise
on, on the, on the odd, take off.
And I'm like, okay, he's like look, honestly nothing to be worried about is like he's our, you can draw up another 200,000 cases like this and you won't have an issue.
He's like, but to do it properly.
He's like, you need to pull it out.
And rebuild it. Whoo.
And I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, okay, that's fine.
So, he's like, looks like I personally wouldn't do it for a while. He's like, just drive it and
enjoy. He's like, he's like, it's not,
it's not harming. Always like, is this your daily?
I'm like, no. He's like, he's like, he's like,
look, you would not even. He's like, you can barely notice
any? I mean, David and you've been in
the kind. You've barely know you've barely
noticed it. Yeah.
But he's like, look, it's just one of those things but when I when I differential wears out it just you know like the the gears just kind of they kind of wear out.
So he's like look it'll do what other Brazilian case.
He's like the snow issues is like Ford's dips on known to be exactly the best but he's like, just just drive it.
He's like I would personally I wouldn't worry about it for a few years, just enjoy it. And and yeah, these are you.
So you see. So you said to me, basically
won't leave you stranded won't do anything wrong.
It's just it's just a it's just a general wearing part really, so it was good to know that. It was nothing.
It wasn't my imagination playing tricks on me that there is you know, that thing and even even Runner said he's like I think something's wrong with your deaf but he's like he's like you can't tell until you take it apart so it was good to get that second opinion and people say yeah he's like yeah it you know the difference. Was fine but it's just that bit
of backlash in that and that's what's causing it to just at the low speeds going around corners and stuff causing it to light up a little bit. I think that's virtually it in
my updates to be a No-No. I put new bump stops in the back
of that car as well. That was a quick.
There's a quick. Five minute job just jacked up
the rear end of it and they kind of just clip on and clip off really there in boys. Yeah, do dog toys exactly what
they are. So do not and that's been pretty
much it on my end anyway. Moving on.
On to tonight's special guest, whereas we've alluded to before you've got an interesting fetish for cars and you know what?
All props to you, because one man has regretted magnet, and the magnet is, I don't think I've ever had this much love as they have with your, with your to specific cars.
I remember when I know if you heard the episode, when we first discussed about your car, yeah, what will talking?
And we'll like Isles is there, but then he's like, did you see the magnetic? We just always run on a massive
tangent about about about the Magna and said, it's a how clear was and and like hell, you know, how original hand nice.
It was to see that in the plethora of, you know, BMW M3s and Porsche GT3 RS. This, this lonely old Beijing
gray matter GL is its GL accident.
Yeah, well, I've got to bet that the beige was a Geo excess of bone stock like Probably don't give you pre.
Are you pretty much been, the only thing that's slightly better about the one that I've got is this got fuel injection, where most of the GLX has, like, most of that series we're carbureted. So, I was just lucky that
someone went for the option of getting a fuel injection, which I always thought that was kind of what I wanted that.
I never thought I could actually find why it took me so long to took me about five years to find that one?
But yeah, apart from that it's just absolute like everything is, you know, manual windows. It hasn't even got a low fuel
gauge like light that comes on. Like this absolute absolute bone
stock pot of Pat, you know, Cars & Coffee.
It was the, the high ball at bossing.
Us around where we first, saw that car and we're all there and and David and I and Matt all commented on the mag now because you just when was the last time you saw one, you know, like yeah. Not, I mean that they are around
the sedans are still around but most of them are rooted and Russ. And so the wagon is is rare,
first of all, but the beige wagon is just so very 1980s, you know, its first outing, that Bible, wasn't it?
That was it was it was one of the first car shows and was funny because I came in with a friend of mine who had the green cult, the Mitsubishi Colt. Yeah, yeah.
And Hey was like, oh we should go this thing called highball and I never heard of it before and I really haven't gone to any car shows prior to that because I was I've got to be honest, I was kind of embarrassed and I wasn't sure.
I thought he isn't sure. He isn't like car shows where
you go and there's like Lamborghinis and you know what?
Highball there can be. Yeah.
Yeah. There's all of that.
But there's also, you know, Mitsubishi scorpions and Integra's and, you know, everything else that we love our 31 skylines. And so I wasn't going to go and
he actually sort of said look no no you should we'll go in together and you know it'll be fine there's strength in numbers. Yeah it's very daunting as a non
car person you know it's it's a daunting environment.
I want I sort of think to myself going to a computer festival at the local Town Hall. I'd be completely out of my
depth. I would just feel like I know
nothing here, this, you know, so I can imagine it's, yeah, it's a daunting thing. Like an our friend Dan Who David
90 through the Honda club like he bought an integral of me loves it and really it came to go to, you know, come or car things, but he's just so green with it.
You know, there's people ask him stuff, they got always yours, get the DC dumb idea and whatever and he looks at me.
Like, I don't know. Head You know that's one of the
best events you can go to as a novice car person because there's just such a variety. You know.
Yeah. You're not diving into The
Concourse. Yeah.
Larry best of the best you know you kind of just whatever.
So I think that yeah yes I do yoga I'm sorry I think that's a great thing about it is that, you know I'm so very, very lucky. That away Along to Highborn,
that kind of set the scene for me go.
Well, this is an amazing community of people that that I now can say, I've made some amazing friends completely away from my normal everyday life. It's pretty special thing as
well that are six hundred dollar Magna can do that.
It was $600, you know tell us What is the story behind that car because that kind of brilliant.
Thanks. Well, I mean, the story is I, I
grew up with with with particularly TP magners like first generation magners, my parents bought one in brand-new and 1991 and it was the first new car actually.
The only new car that actually ever owned.
In their entire driving career. So it was a big deal, they
peaked with the TP. They take the receipt a and this
is one of the very last ones as well.
And it was there were I think I mean to this day, they still say how lucky they were because I actually, there's no way you could do this in today's world but they bought all they ordered a hail damaged, TP GLX Mitsubishi, in South Australia had ever had. This massive storm that came
over and damaged all these new GLX.
And so no way, they were actually selling them like get 1500 dollars off and buy a slightly hail damage Magna and that's all moment that could a force.
So they ordered a hail damage GLX carbureted.
I think it was like, a great sort of a gray, like light gray one. And anyway, something, it was a
long story, but something happened and Mitsubishi said, we've run out of the held. Magnus?
Because everyone's buying them all.
We've got left because they were getting ready to gear up for the tea. Ours, all we've got left is this
executive fuel-injected 5-speed black, you can have the same price. Oh yeah, so they got a much
better one and it was quite a price wise, quite a jump between the GLX carbon a executive fuel-injected so mum and dad got a much better deal on the end and that became our family car.
Like we drove Everywhere we drove to the Gold Coast in it, I learned to drive in it. I took my first dates out in it.
Reversing into a few garbage bins.
Like it was it was it was kind of like when you see, you know, everyone thinks of the family car and they be they Envision vij's somewhat a particular car that comes up well for me it's EP magma. So I always stupidly I always
thought that they would just be around.
So I thought one day I'm going to get Get one when I'm a bit older and you know, maybe I can afford it or so then I want to get one. I want to get another nagler and
many years passed away, disappeared.
Like, it was like, it was almost like there were everywhere.
And then suddenly I blinked in there were gone and a few would just sort of magically appear. And it would almost like take my
breath away. Oh, wow.
I haven't seen one for ages and so, Connor.
Got serious. Five years ago.
I'm trying to find one I just couldn't I just couldn't find one. I couldn't or the as I was
saying, the only ones that were around with sedans and there were full of rust and I wanted a manual.
I wanted a manual wagon fuel-injected.
Do your clients, your parents want to Wagon that they built the wagon. Yeah, it was a black.
Yeah. So they caught it like scratch
and gray. You have to go to your filing
cabinet and yeah it'll be there by the sounds of it.
Look for one of those but forget it, you can't find.
I mean, there's is kind of rare even back in 1991 but fire black Magna. But yes, search the years and
years and years. Honestly, I just kept looking
looking looking asking around, and I almost looks to the point.
I was like, I'm just going to buy a auto wagon, if it.
Pops up. And I just went on to a Facebook
magnesite. I just said, hey guys, told my
sob story about loving Magnus blah, blah, blah.
I'm after a, I'm after a wagon manual fuel injected, and it's got to be a teepee, Magda, and I get this message back saying.
Hi Andrew, I've got one sitting in my shared in Horsham.
And it's a manual. It's beige, it's fuel injected,
and it's a GLX and hasn't been running for a long time, but if I can get it running doing a come and have a look at it.
Yes, I do when you saw beige, when you should read beige, what was your initial thought? I think by that stage, I was
being so many years except five or six years.
And I was like, you know what, it's literally kicks.
It keeps a lot of boxes. Yeah.
It's not the same color. Our, but it takes the same box.
As far as it's a five speed, its fuel injectors or wagon because the wagons I felt the wagons disappeared before the sedans.
Yeah, I think you're right, because a lot of old people bought. The sedan's has, their last car,
was a retirement car. And so, a lot of them actually
did quite you do, see them of quite low mileage on them and I bought one, you know, after David tip me off, you know that a year and a half ago, you know, which was a manual GLS sedan with 72,000 chaotic, but you guys think?
The ECM with 159 teasing, you know, the lowest I've seen was 40 something recently on an original Magna sedan but they were the conservative retirement car.
Whereas the Wagner was the mum and dad family car, crickets soccer camping, whatever, they just got more used, you know then really just got used to death pretty much it's so true.
A lot of them were bought by fleets originally so they got abused and rental companies. And so yeah it's much harder to
find a pristine wagon. It is a pristine sedan.
So what happened to your parents one?
Do they just sell it or yes, it's really sad story.
Like I I wanted to buy it and by that stage, I was sort of living overseas for a while and they is actually like I get on really well, my parents like, we're really close.
It's the only really sore. However, by part of our
relationship is the fact that they sold a magnet when I was overseas and then mechanic at the time, convince them that it was crap and All you know, Magnus the crap and eventually it'll be you know, blown smoke and the time change timing, channel Rattle and everything and my parents never did that.
They had a really good one and so I was overseas and suddenly it was gone and sold through the trade and it just disappeared.
I'm sure. Look up to the honestly, I think
the fate of it was probably like a lot of magners that there were, you know, went through second third, fourth owners and never service and then thrown out which Is.
Yeah, the the sad demise of that that generation magma.
I think I was actually thinking about this before I before tonight. I'm trying to think of a car in
Australia that fell from Grace more spectacularly.
But if you think about like, when my parents got their brand-new, I remember people patting my down the back of oh, wow. It's, you know new Magna and
everyone's talking about these cars and they're there.
So Headed they Tom and blah blah blah and then like you know five years later or more. Yeah.
Suddenly they're they're like it's an embarrassment and and you know I've been kind of defending them ever since but I mean okay this is another car that I can think of this actually fallen from grace and now slowly getting an appreciation but there's an article I glanced at before tonight knowing knowing you were coming on and I was doing a Is about magners and I think it was by Paul go over or something a bit, the head. That the first Power IV said no
Australian car is quite as polarizing as the Magna and he'd buy that, he was meaning not polarizing sort of InDesign or whatever. Because they were very
well-liked, you know, there are up to a car but it was just like some people like, your parents had a brilliant run out of them, you know. And I had a friend that had a
wagon, she did three hundred plus thousand without a major glitch and you know, loved it and other people just Were plagued with issues from day one.
Alternators radiators head. Gaskets timing chain
transmissions on the TMS, you know, just leaks rust.
You know, like they were there a bit chalk and cheese.
So really who you talk to? It's one of those cars that was
like you'd be the bought a Monday car or a Friday.
Yes it was really one of those those cars because I think I was mentioning to you the one that has to get a quickie and a family friend, bought one after they had a 626 lat.
Who'll Drive 626 and then eventually died and they've got a they got a gray, Magna sedan and automatic and you know they loved it and then all of a sudden it just fell apart.
Like the transmission went to start and they're like I hate this car I'm not like and I was quite like because I always thought I was a good-looking car because I had that in the had a nimbus. I had, those are nice that was
their matching pair and yeah. So it was interesting to just to
just to see The people's reaction.
My dear - tozi built cars of that time and love him as we do.
There were monday-friday cars, you know, unless any of the manufacturers in Australia at the time you know, basically had good ones and bad ones you know and as time went on, you know, the ones that paint fell off. I mean, as I said that I was
thinking Toyota was probably the exception to the rule, but you know, the bling those, you know, like literally in figuring out, you know, after not very long, you know?
No, in a lot of cases. They're metallics were pretty
terrible through the 80s. Late 80s, early 90s.
I have to say that one that I bought that Saddam is 72k now.
That's okay. That's a pretty well preserve
type car was a great. Yeah, I bought that from the
from the wrecker that we all love to for acquaint.
You know, from the record, it was out in front of the wrecker but not a lot of money and driving at home down at, you know, 80 K. Now, our you know, Dandenong
Road. I was I hadn't been in 14 years
But a family friend, had one when I when I was young, I used to wash it for, and whatever. So, I had driven them, I had
been around them, but I hadn't been 20 years and getting back in that. I just said to myself, my God,
this thing's quiet. You know, it was very refined.
The gearbox was smooth, it was Punchy, you know, and that GLX that was a car. Be, you know, manual.
But it, you know, you floored it.
And it actually went well and I just was wafting along at 80 thinking. No wonder people like these.
This is a A really comfortable the good seats that it really nice Australian sort of rallying cry seats as you would well no.
Andrew and Mike, even even all these years later, I got back in your thought I would more than happily drive this car anywhere.
You know, this, this is not a bad thing to drive.
Yeah, I agree. And I'm and you think about it
like a lot of those magazine - 34 years old, both of mine.
I mean, some people have got ones, 35, 36 years old, I mean, that's, that's a lie. Long time.
That's, you know, and they still, they still feel quite refined. Said, look there.
Yeah, I think there's a lot of great things about them.
I personally think there should be AI.
Think there are part of Australian motoring history, like them or not? And that's always been my
argument defense and a lot of other people's, actually as well. Which said, yeah, you know, like
we can, we can praise the VL commodore, And the next C Falcon will. I think the Magna it came along,
it actually scared the other companies and they kind of made, they certainly were ahead of the margin for at least a good couple of years before suddenly Camrys came out as wide body cameras and all that. That was because of the magma.
That's exactly. Yeah, they said over the
article, I read I think it was two point, six inches wider.
You know, everywhere that the magnet from the car was based on and, you know, they did had a 19-year about that.
They did that. 85 and then wide body camera wasn't at to 1991.
You know they yeah they really took what was a good Japanese design and then when all right let's let's make you the Ozzy to solve it to, you know, like well we've got to compete with the Falcons and Holden's, let's just cut it down the middle and make it wider. That's literally what they did,
what they did. I was buying new cars at that
stage and there was the the Holmen Falcon, and there was the camera in the magnet, you know? So there was a real them enough
thing. Even then even though they were
competing in the same Market Place, you know of any hold more. Falcon guys when border?
Yeah. Magna, you know and were at the
time the offerings I think that was about or was that v l XF?
Yeah. Yeah.
Yeah. Or a magnet or Well, I will I
had a camera and then I had a magnet so you know I mean yeah they were the day with a to me. Much more refined and much
better driving cars. Much better build?
Yeah, absolutely because. Yeah.
So I'm as we said when we saw your car, a toggle, the first time I was like, wow, this is very cool.
And as I've related the story to you, Andrew to, I've yeah, people in the trade who who bought very expensive cars to that Events and kicked off with you, and not even knowing you, you know, be and actually commented.
During the following week about that, did you see that?
Bloody Magna people were pushing past exotic Italian sports car to take a photo of this bloody beige maker wagon and I said yeah pretty cool. Wasn't it only made by?
Is it proudly made in Australia by mix?
Yeah, it made us face stickers that they had 11 straight back triangle ones. So you see that's that's iconic
of that time, isn't it? And yeah time now gone forever.
Yeah, it's a sad thing. So I go if I guess for me
wanting to have a couple at least that I could before they I felt at the time before they completely disappear.
Yeah is why I've sort of been you know hunting and I've got to 11 is the business bone stock. One is we've been talking about
the beige one and the other one is a silver Elite, a teepee Elite wagon, which is got all the All the top-of-the-range, gizmos and stuff on it. I just wanted to wagons from
both ends of the spectrum. Really, and go.
All I've got, I've got two examples and there are decent.
I'm still working on them, but at least they're relatively clean. Still lots of work to do on
them, but at least I can say, in 20 years time, 10 years time, when the rest of them, have disappeared.
All this, I've got a couple but a decent examples.
You know, you've booked and The range nicely there.
Yeah, thanks before we can. Before we get to New autores,
you gotta go. Thanks for job on the show
tonight. We will talk to you soon,
anytime. Thanks for having gone every
day. Before I before I go Andrew, you
mentioned that there's very few cars out there that are asked polarizing in Australian car culture and history and the Magna. Now there's only there's two
other cars one that we know for a you Falcon but The different story is only one other card that tops the Magna and that is Mitsubishi's. Last Ferrara three, eighty three
eighty not 380 was, you know, in my opinion when it came out of this was an amazing car, a great like I think Mitsubishi and Boeing we're working together because Boeing was making the A380 and Mitsubishi was making and both of Had the size, the mass, the boldness, that came with those machines Mitsubishi, just took it one step further and created in and within a
couple of years. Pretty much forgotten but I
think they're having a Resurgence now.
Yeah, so Mitsubishi did a lot of good things in Australia.
Yeah. The work that you're doing with
Magnus and everything like that. It's their people's car and on
this show. Dr. Alan deep Singh.
She thinks the Magma's are recession-proof.
Yeah. So when we, when we were hitting
you too tough times, its cars. Like the magnets that are Gonna
Save Australia. Again, thanks for having me talk
to you soon. So yeah.
So you've got both ends of the spectrum.
So so in the first one you bought from Horsham, I bought that from Horsham and I was very lucky, the guy who sold it to me is probably I think Australia's biggest Magna not And so, when I went to pick it up where he actually got it running for me.
And yes I'm sitting in this shed for many years, he bought it from someone else, and one day I was hoping to do it up and he had so many other projects. He had sigma's, he had a couple
record. He has, you had loads of magners
everything from from TMS right through TJ's, see ours.
And he said, look, I've got a lot of parts, you know, I won't charge you for the labor, just pay me a few extra bucks.
For the parts and he got it running for me and I've since become really good friends with him.
So when I got my Elite, I took it to to Horsham and he did a load of work on it. Like if it wasn't for the mech,
I just wouldn't have been able to afford to get that car back on the road because it needed a lot of mechanical attention it when I boarded done 425,000 ches.
Wow. So I've only put three thousand
on Since he's been back on the road but make did all the work on it and it was through lockdown as well.
So basically after he would, he would be working his day job and Horseshoe and you come home and work on my bed, roll my magma around and work on it in the evening.
Mechanically that car what would rebuild or head rebuild or something. It needed the headed.
Luckily the the guy that I bought it off and just have the head done but it wasn't done properly so it was leaking.
So make all that it. The engine mounts were would so
bad. Probably worse than your moat.
What else is it be? There was a heap of stuff like,
you need a complete new exhaust. The digital dash wasn't working
anymore because it's got the cool 1980s.
Space Invaders, Digital dash. That wasn't working the air
conditioning, none of the vents for working, like it was just, it was everything, you know, the headlining was sitting on your head. Like it was just, it was so
there was so much stuff and I bought the car sight unseen because I was like, I'm never going to find another Elite wagon don't pop up and it looked in the photos of, look pretty clean. But the guy was honest with me
and he said, look and there's a lot of work mechanically, but if it wasn't for me coming, he had all these, that's fine, that's fine. And he would have cost me
honestly three or four times as much.
If I just tried to find people in Melbourne to do it where he-he's. So passionate about particularly
the old first generation magma is it is like I just want this car to be back on the road so he was happy to do all the work after hours and he's, you know, very proud that it survived, you know. So I'm very lucky.
He bet, he's number one. He's a dear friend of mine now
and he's worked on both those magners and really that's he's been the main reason that they're still on the road.
That's good to know. She'd ever, I come across
another Magna. Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
I look at the guys gonna is it a TJ wagon manual wagon, TJ manual 3.5, Max manual, nice. And he bought that with like
told me He's old and he still got it to this day, right?
And the I think I've seen you since some photos into our into our car, talk group chat, but but basically he was looking for is like our publisher upgraded, the body was pretty heavy going but mechanically was perfect and he do test drive other things.
It is like you know what, nothing could fit my my drum kit that I think if you do my music instruments but I think mouthing and do it as much as Magna. So what he spent the four or
five grand getting the whole body redone like are all well fully repainted and everything and and what the guy took it to you sighs. I don't know why you're doing
this but it was like after you to be like Glad you did because he liked this concave up or some, they took all the windows out of it, they did it. Well, the cleanest car, I think,
in the car park at work and I was like, you know what respect like that's awesome. Yeah, it's red.
It's a Rick. I like manual V6 3.5 wagon.
That's the ultimate in recycling.
Absolutely. Yeah.
I respect the car more for that than I do.
Like, I am throwing out go. Go buy a new one because it's,
yeah, it's like mechanically the cars perfect.
Like, you've never let me down once, you know, and I Like yeah, I totally get it. I totally get it because he had
a stroke. You test drove a skoda Octavia
wagon. And he hated he's like, it's
like, it's like a slow compared to the Magna.
It doesn't feel as nice on the road.
I'm like really easy. So it's like, yeah, it's like I
did not like it at all, my God, fair enough so.
So it's almost, like, it's I screw it.
I'm keeping a Mac and I'm like, oh, that's fantastic.
I mean, hopefully, those way to models will eventually I think get their time in the sun. I'm really hoping that the TA As
eventually. And as it was, I had been sort
of a very very soon get a little bit more love.
So I think that the first Generations are slowly just I think because they're boxy and I'm sorry Scotty but a lot of people go I really love you Skyline with.
Thank you for the Magna is actually another 31.
Next one's did come in a way again.
They're still very boxy and they had that exact same age color.
So yeah. Yeah, true.
But here they are similar. Yeah.
I don't think a lot of missing guys are really happy about the fact that people think that Magnus.
But yeah, but yeah look II hope the TRS sort of come in because they're starting to disappear as well.
I could you don't when was the last time you sort of clean?
You know, T our wagon, you know, it's, I can't remember the last time I saw a good one so I know something like I have a soft spot for those because buddy, mum had a 626 Master turbo for a very short time which I love that car, you know.
So I was And you white with the matching white alloy wheels, so that was that was, that was that the nicest car we'd ever owned, you know, had it for eight months, got written off outside chadstone shopping center. So that was the end of that.
And then my dad I could, let's just get another one, dad, you know? But no, no, he wanted to be more
practical. He said, I think of Magna
wagons, what will be getting? And he, he was about to buy a
brand new one, this time, it's mate.
Mate was a brand-new 1/4 like 29 Grand.
They were for an example. Egan.
Are you like the idea of the V60 a V6 executive wagon 15-inch wheels was sort of like 29 or 30 on road, but they had the plain gray bumpers, you know, they didn't come with standard aircon. So that was extra and I said,
I'll never uses that. So, we were staring down the
barrel of getting one with. No, are brand-new in, in, in in
exactly 6. And that was almost sort of
looking like that. He was about to do it.
And I said, we'll hang on, let's just be smart about this.
And back then. And I said, have a glance in the
trade, in your old age? Yeah, no, I was older than that
but not, that was probably about 15 maybe anyway, so I said, no, let's have a look at the Trading Post, which back then was was sort of it. There was no car sales, so yeah,
in the trading post, a one-year-old manual V6.
Magna wagon, which the guide done 12,000 gaze and the guy had had everything color coded on it, so it had them was Cascade bloomer. Tally, for the color coated
bars. Color-coded Grill, color-coded,
mud flaps which looked a lot more premium 12,000 case.
He'd optioned the virata clock. The analog clock are cool.
Yeah, normally magnetized have a big blank space between the two front vents. So this guy had optioned the
beautiful looking for analog clock and so enter.
And we paid 23 for that. And so I said, well, you've just
saved Seven Grand and you've got a much nicer car.
This is a thousand case, who cares?
They could might have become we take on a headache.
Yeah, no, no. Winner.
Winner chicken dinner. And we hit that came years.
So, I spent a lot of time in that washing that vacuuming that there were things I loved about it.
There were things, I didn't know about it, but overall respect.
Yeah, yeah, definitely. That car cross my path.
Again, I'd, I'd be pretty tempted to buy that back.
Yeah, absolutely. It was a 93 TR exec, well nice
Aspen Grove. Green, which I color coded the
bumpers on myself. Thank you very much.
I did up speak to the 15 inch Alloys from the VC.
Yeah. And I wanted the Alloys on hours
and there were eight hundred dollar option at the time.
Wow, Dad. I'm not paying $800 there.
So I was hoping to find a set somewhere and I just never did.
But the 15 inch hub cap with the sweat spokes was actually not an unattractive hubcap. Yeah.
So we kept our standard but also, you know, respect to the The so you know we've had one, David said one you've got to Scotty magnet magnet has no no baby seal time to time but there's still a little bit of time.
I mean a few people on this. Do a live comedy show.
I've had have had magazine Anthony's first car was there was a TJ's Sport's most five speed so that that was that was cool. Adrian's had like 10 of them.
So you know we've we've all come across mayor.
When it's just Scars that. I mean, from people, I'm saying
from people my era but like, you know, someone's Dad or Mom or uncle, or Auntie had a Magna had a Camry, had a falcon had a Commodore, had a Skyline, you know, wagon Pintura wagon, you know, like they had they had a car from that era and you can always relate them to like I am I remember that?
You know, like if your mom hadn't you heard your mom had the magnet, the magnet wagon and, and your parents, and you had the had the Magna wagon and, you know, David, you had a Magnet Wire. Can you do suck?
So it's everybody knows that someone has had those kind of come across as kind of it's just like looking back.
Now on hearing these stories. It makes me so happy but also
really sad because we're not going to have that anymore.
So yeah, very nice segue, though, to highballs next event which, which is on Sunday Sunday, the 2012 at the mall in western burger isn't it is yeah, hmm.
And and its celebrating. It, we actually rang me to see
if I could find some that he wanted mundane.
As I said, why you're angry that's a bit rude.
But anyway, but exactly for that reason and you know a lot and I don't think I'm overstating it when I'm saying part of mr.
Wigglesworth, some gold in life was to actually bring bring this event into into play. Where with the I think the word
you used. Did you use the word mundane may
I It was a more relatable reliable.
That's the way. Yeah, yeah.
Because everybody knows someone that had one and and I think those car and that's part of the beauty of what highball is doing is that there is while there are some very top end stuff.
There's not a lot of pretension about the whole thing and yeah, I mean car people are into cars, real car, people are into all sorts of cars and appreciate other people's passions for them. You know that it's you and I
think eyeballs great in the one coming up on info.
Barry at the mall in West Heidelberg is, is it called the?
It's got a name, the event or I think it's still considered just High, block them all but be available.
That's right. Yeah, the main, I guess the main
for those who have been to the high bought them all before.
It's like you go into the main part of the mall area and that's where the despite the main display cuz yeah.
And so this time the main display Is it going to be the mundane dare? I say the mundane car so we'll
be you know, Magma's are and they'll be everything else, cortinas and sigma's, hopefully and all that sort of stuff.
So that's going to be the main attraction.
But obviously, other people can bring whatever they want because this is actually heaps of space around in the other car parking areas. But the main section anyway will
be the everyday driver that was thrown out and forgotten, so yeah. I'm really excited.
I think it's a really gorgeous. Yeah, the real survivors, you
know, I hope it keeps building. I hope that, you know, maybe
even magazines like Survivor car or some Australia, or something like that can be involved. Who knows?
Like, I think it's, I think it kind of opens up to a lot of different ideas. Anyway.
Absolutely, absolutely. No, no.
I think it's uh, it's bringing a whole new light on these cars were like, oh you know, I remember those, you know, like it's it's I've I get more as I am.
I'm saying for myself, but I get more gratification of like, oh, I remember that. You know, that, that's back.
You know, 626, you know, etc, etc.
And and people just like, you're weird, but I'm just like, oh, I get excited. You know, it's, it's highballs
kind of doing that. And I think they're really
embracing that, and it's doing it's going good.
So, they're your magnets. All right.
You've also got other cars. What else do you earn?
So I've got I've got three Cameron's as well.
So I've got our My daily driver is a 2002, XXXV 20, our Camry wagon. Like it's the 4-cylinder one.
I just clicked 360,000 on it. It's used every day my wife and
I have driven it apart from the top end of Australia.
We've driven everywhere else around Australia.
Many, many, many times in to Queensland far, North Queensland, New South, Wales, South Australia.
So that's my Daily drive it up heads or like 12 or 13 years now. So, I've always loved it.
It's kind of one of the family like is as far as we're concerned. So that's my daily Camry.
I've also got an SV 2, 1 Cameron wagon as well.
That I bought for 500 dollars and spent the last, I think I've owned it for the last four or five years.
Just working on, just making it a better stock version fixing things. Things and hopefully making it
look cleaner. I've also got one that I haven't
got registered yet, but I got a V6 Camry wagon as well 1990 91 which I think had the the Lexus. Hmm 3-liter V6.
Yeah, 3 litre. V6 the 1M said if he if that's
yeah that's the one yes I've picked that up for a thousand dollars in. I was in Brisbane and I saw it
online and why it was on Gumtree.
More powerfully than 150,000. Ches it's a V6 which is really
hard to find its touring model. So it's got the kind of slightly
lowered with the alloy wheels and the, you know, the sporty be player in them too. Yeah, I think Edward has a
special way to say that were doing Edward Turing, like, you're Gillard Touring that before the other two outs, Hello wheels in the CD player and roof rail to the roof racks and so I've bought that for a thousand dollars in Brisbane.
And I drove it back to Melbourne, let's when I call thousand bucks pay cash and I drove it all the way on my own all the way back to Melbourne, and I've got it sitting there and I definitely want to get that back on the road.
I'm just waiting for it, to click over to Club plate status.
Yes. Watching this happen.
Color. Is that?
It's a white one. It's David.
Prince's favorite color. I'm Jane.
Why? Edward there are quite like
virtually every camera you see is white.
Yeah. It's they're all white.
Yeah. I mean, I'm not even new ones
today. Yeah, it's true.
A lot of time reasoning and where I am and they're always white, they're always white. Yeah.
But so I have to start the basics one.
I drove one of those in a sedan form, it was the V6 sedan.
An yeah, yes know what was it Conquest?
Was a camera Conquest I drove on brand-new out of the showroom because a guy at my work with, as the marketing marketing manager at the time, that was his brand new company car.
And so he said, I can you drop me out there to pick it up and he said, are you drive it back? You know, and he jumped in
whatever else we had at work at the time as a test cut.
So I drove that out of the yard with seven case on the odometer brand new V6 and we had we I think we did a hundred thousand in that because it was the company sort of hacked.
As well as being, he's personal one and and I was always amazed at how smooth that motor was and silky that 4-speed transmission was you could learn the overdrive on it, but we had a lot of press cars that we would test.
You know, been researching, what have you?
Because of the company? It was and I would always
compare them to the Camry. I'd say, well, it's not as quite
as the camera. It's not smooth, you know, it
doesn't change down into second seamlessly without you even noticing as well as the Camry Camry has the were a lot more expensive. Pensive.
So yeah. The seats are a bit flat and
unsupportive and yeah it's a bit while we in the in the handling and what have you but as a silky linear mechanical package, it was brilliant. Yeah.
Yeah. That's what I've noticed and I
just couldn't say no to a thousand dollar V6 Camry.
So you're right bit and then in comparison to my four cylinder one, which I do love. Wow.
Because such a difference in just just extra power and just fine mint. Yeah, the V6 engine in the
cameras were always silky smooth.
Like they were just as smooth engine, they revved really nicely made, plenty of power. I used to with, with our old
visas can, we had my high school friends?
Weren't a fan of me because I would be there Commodores and Falcons, but that's a story and they hated it because I like and traffic like Grand Prix and then they would, they would be like, no, I do. I couldn't launch your property
or your. So yeah.
I really got a lot of respect for for, you know, cameras and especially Basics carries. I really love a hence the reason
why we got my done in Torreon because yeah, just a great car like great passionately. Yeah yeah.
So that's basically yeah that's that's the cook the main collection three cameras into magners Unthinkable dition.
To the father has yeah, the Hound recently.
Oh yes for addition. Hmm.
Yes. We're talking about Laura's car.
Yes. Yeah.
So this is a weird story but my very dear and much better half.
Laura she, many years ago, her very first car was a little Cee Lancer. A little GLX either 1.8 slightly
better slightly more powerful motor.
And she had it for many, many, many years, we started dating, and she had it. We drove this thing everywhere.
And she tried to trade the car in and immediately regretted it.
And then, basically spent 10 years, just searching online to see if it would ever pop up again and the end of last year, she's on of all things, Facebook Marketplace.
And there it pops up the exact car, the exact car.
Yeah. Yeah, the exact huh?
And she will be. We luckily we had a lot of
information about the colloquy, have the VIN number and stuff because it had change registration if he times.
But she just looked at this car went.
I think this is my old car. Like, I remember the dance that
it had in it and it's identical set a lot more case now.
But then she put about 260,000, I think it's now sitting at 330 well. But anyway, we went down to look
at and the The more I guess, even the creepiest part about it is it ended up back down in Rosebud.
We both grew up down the peninsula and it's on the same street as a, the street of the grandparents house old house.
That's rude. We locked up and where this is
where we check the VIN. We open up the glove box and
there's receipts that she had had done on the car, like we're talking ten plus years ago. So I just said, look, even if
it's not really running properly.
We've We were not going home without this car.
Hey, so it see ya. She's kind of like me, she's
waiting for it, to click over the club plate status, which will give us a couple of years to it definitely needs some work. Just a few little mechanical
things and some cosmetic love. It's definitely Andrew.
What did this sell out of the car?
Say, when you revealed that That used to be her old car.
Did you told them that I would assume we did.
Tell her that. And she, I don't think she at
first believed us. I think she was waiting for the
sphere where I go. Oh, you know, you've got to
advertise for this price. So, you know, cook you, since
you feel sorry for us, can you give it to us for like a thousand dollars less? But, but no, no.
She eventually, like I said, look, I'll actually pull the glove box and said, this is, this is this is all the receipts of things that we did. So the card ten plus years ago
so that's unbearably. Yeah it's going our old address
on it. It's got our old phone numbers
and stuff like that you know still sitting in the other car have been through quite a few owners since we got rid of it.
So I mean what are the chances? I mean i-i've never seen my
first car again. I'm sure none of you guys have
seen your first cars. I mean, the disappeared and to
the Ibiza. So for this little land so of
all cars to actually pop back up.
To the surface I think is is unbelievable.
It was meant to be which was true, was meant to get it back.
So yeah. Yeah.
She her long-term plan is to get it looking good enough and she can bring it to high ball in there.
So that's that's a long-term goal.
So what year is it? That's 2,000.
Okay. It's a yeah, a little Coupe, a
little seal answer, like a silver.
Let's go pee. She was lucky that she went for
the GLX. Which group the most of them
with a 1.5 that one pretty pretty gutless, but she got the
1.8. So it's a little little bit more
sprightly and yeah, look, it's yeah, it's stood the test of time, which I mean how many times have you seen them, you know, end up with jollies or any other records or whatever?
So I mean I think the fact that this car done a heap of Kay's and it still was driving around was amazing, so did I buy new.
Yeah, she bought it very I think it was I think was only maybe like two years old or year old or something.
So it was her first car like sheer.
Yeah. First car.
And I just think, yeah. I've actually never heard of
anyone really finding their first car again, lots of stories of people saying, I wish I didn't do, you know, I didn't select probably our bed for it to actually resurface and end up back down in the same area that she grew up in, I think those random. So who really?
Yeah. Pretty incredible.
Go buy a lot of take it off to that or I should have done that.
Yep. Looks on their side.
Yeah, well I don't think I'd have a fun L V6 camera again but if I did it'd be doing the exact same thing.
My friend I would be. Yeah, we're doing that.
But that's, that's bloody awesome like that.
That's actually a really cool, really cool story.
I think the great thing is so Laurel of she's discovering.
How wonderful, but All you guys are and there's an amazing car Community there that she now wants to be involved, just a really lovely thing, I think she's she's surprisingly as well. She's seen me rock up with the
Magna and people want to know about it and ask questions and she's not, well, this, this is, this is a different community that I've never come across before.
And so, I think she seemed the the joy that it's given me and lots of Right, new friends and I think she looked well, you know what, I've got my first car back in.
Maybe I should, you know, work towards being involved as well.
So that's a lovely. That's a lovely thing.
You know. Mitsubishi set for the cameras.
It's all yeah, exactly. Yeah.
That's true. It's 3 & 3, right.
There's 33 Mitsubishi's and three.
Yeah, even Steven. So like, you know, you you were
the Japanese car, you know, Asia made Japanese car, you know, household and probably across the road would have been the The older VL Commodore VN, Commodore family, so it's interesting but it's so good to good to hear stories like that because one, I, you really hear of someone getting their car back in.
And if they do the paid, an absolute premium for it.
And yeah. But somebody is like, kind of
want to put this because I cars like that, they just won't appreciate it like that. Like, I remember one time and
when those those Lance's were just everywhere, everyone had altezza lights on them. Everyone had, you know, Just do
just that we just cut exhaust and a crappy body kit and they were just hammered. Yeah.
And then I see a nice and I'm like well that's you know that's what it's a really tiny one and but but a lot of messy.
So yeah, they're up in Jellies and ended up at all these other records. And they just didn't, they just
were just kind of like, throw away cars and it's cool.
It's incredible. That's well over 300,000 cases
and you've stood in, you've got in the back.
It's a bloody awesome story. Yeah, it's cool.
And the fact is that that luckily didn't get, you know, the the the cheap mag wheels and stuff is A completely original.
It's exactly how we left it but it's just a little, you know, faded and you know need a little bit of love, but it's actually completely original how we left it with including the receipts.
So I think it's like insane. That's a keeper.
Yeah, absolutely time for the quiz.
Matt I think it is my friend so I will get out of my my notepads. So this is the The the car talk
Magna quiz written by Edward, we just be clear.
Is that all Magna? Yeah.
Okay, that's okay. And so we don't lose this is
before you start. Scotty's, put in the chat, the
spoiler shop and the the Droid sides.
Go hit the by for him and it's and it's exactly what happened to all them. All singing them is around all
the time and such bright vivid Colors.
Oh yeah. Those friendship, any flower
stickers on the rear window that.
Yes, and the matching seat covers.
Yeah, magic set comes all the good things.
Yeah. Pretty them up a stylish shape.
Do you know, they lend themselves to?
Yeah, that was just thinking that I mean, when you think of things like Gemini coup pays and land Saku pays, but you know, the Mirage was that was a functional participate because it was you know, me it's a coupe was a good.
A pretty yeah please Liz thinks little out.
Will allow it. All right?
You ready for the quiz? You got a buzzing your name
Andrew. That's how it works.
Yep. I remember from previous
episodes. Yeah.
You know how the drill goes Maddie will do the scoring?
Because no one else will hear my name buzz in that bunch of come on, Scotty. I don't know that much but I can
get confused with Scott. What color from the 90s
Mitsubishi Magna range is mentioned by Hannibal Lecter?
Crickets are not wanted here. He ate his liver, David David,
David, David TNT. Correct.
Which is what color creed correct.
He ate beans and a nice Chianti. So one won't be David.
What? Question to what?
Check that David you on one to Cena?
Thank you. What sized engine was fitted to
the Meghna Matthew Andrew Matthews.
First that would have been a 2.6 here wrecked.
I thought it might sound. Tricky issue if I'd said the
first Magnum it and it really, it's yeah, too much question. 3.
The TR Magna lower models could be optioned as per my mother's executive with the analog clock from the varada.
How much was the option? Closest gets angry?
Yes, was it? $880 put that as your guess, but
we make a figure from everyone. Yep.
I'll go in with 375. 375 from Matthew David.
Yeah. 550 550 and Scott I got 180 I believe it was four
hundred dollars. So many.
That is your horn. Okay, I'll take that.
That's what the guy told me when we bought that.
I paid $400 for the plot. What year was the all wheel
drive version of the magnet launched?
That's a good question, Andrew. Yeah. 2003.
No Matthew. Yes, Matthew now I'm going to
say Oh, for no Ascot start o to affect Scotty.
Well done. Question 5 upon the launch of
the varada in Australia. What were the two grades?
You could get David? Yes, X.
I correct was the top-of-the-line and mine.
The lower virata was a varada Matthew.
Yes, myth him. Well what I would do is go to
finish David so you can keep going.
Hmm. He is came later much later.
You know, I'm way outside. Yep.
So I just clarify, is that one point, 0.5?
That's Point 5 for x i and five other point five for the lower great wasn't it? Matthew you go question 6.
What year did Magna win Wheels? Car of the year Andrews 85?
Correct 1985 done. Question 7.
Exported magners were known as the Mitsubishi with you Matthew.
Matthew Matthew? Yeah, Diamante correct.
Diamante question 8, where does the name magna cum from?
Whoo. Matthew yes, liquid hot magma,
answer. But no, no, you crazy bastard.
Where does the name magna cum from Dave Nelson?
Yes. David abbreviation of a
magnanimous. No.
No, I didn't think once, but as it got to do with the Magna Carta, Carter. I don't believe so no.
Dang, he's coming to used to call his the magnetron so I do hope it was as if it was a Decepticon, are right?
No, I'm not. Yeah, I kind of feel like you
should, you should remember this, you know, because, you know, being a magnet guy comes from the Latin word Magnus, which means big right. Meghna, big, big.
Yeah. Because it was widened by, was
it, would you say two inches? 16 inches?
I believe. Yeah, yeah.
Strike. Down the guts.
Mmm question, 9 complete. The brochure slogan.
Mitsubishi Magna everything before it will now be Matthew years old. No, it's a Mitsubishi Magna
everything before it will now be behind it.
Correct, man. You didn't buzz in?
You're going to get all right. No, you're gonna get it, it's
fine. That's what David 1.5.
And you onto a myself on, 3.5, what question me up to is the
last question. It's like, I always say, it's
anybody's game at this point, but I can't, so, yeah.
Nothing stopping me. See if you can sniff a one more
Point baby or anyone else for that matter.
Question 10. How much did Mitsubishi spend
developing the Magna wagon, This is the closest to yeah.
Okay, we'll go closest to Andrew.
I'm going to say, I recently saw a documentary about this and I just can't block me, remember the exact amount.
Like I'm gonna say ten point six million, okay, that's yours.
Other numbers from other participants please.
Well firstly, I want to see what channel that documentaries on.
Yeah. Yeah, it's a Shannon's is
actually, Scott. Okay?
And just before I answer, the question was, the magnet was a wagon or really an Australian thing because like it was.
Yes, it was developed designed in 1987, June release.
How much did Miss Mitsubishi, spend developing the way I'm going to say they spend an extra 15 million.
Okay? So we've got a 10, a 15 and 18.6
in a 20 from David. I thought we've got a ten point
six from from, from Andrew. Got 20 million from David.
We got any point six from Scotty do and a 10 million?
It was 38 million dollars. Apparently.
Wow. Well David gets that then David.
How many they have to sell to recoup that?
I don't think they sold enough David.
That's what I read online. So how who, who knows how
accurate that is, but that's what they said.
Wow, there you go. That's your magnet quiz.
The winner being And I think Matthew on how many points do it. Well, gotta run to the score.
Scotty one Andrew to David 2.5 of that last ring, a question
and myself on the 3.5 makes myself.
The winner, ironically three-part magnificent capacity, possibly six, the big block, the big block V6 the but mind you, we got the world first. This is probably the only
automated The world that has had a competition regarding the Mitsubishi Magna. No, it's awesome.
I think that's probably true. Yeah, he's that makes us even
the right place and, you know, you're in safe hands.
When that, I, I've known that for a long time, listen to this great podcast. So yeah, it's very good
cutting-edge careers. You know, how the for that you
was a translator to Mercedes and two empty.
Now and CLS. We are a trendsetter in the
world of magnets, will bring it. Andrew.
We're bringing them back. One magnetron at a time.
It's happening. Can you please get a sticker for
yours? And like, with Austin Powers
phaser, go to liquid, hot magma, I need to get one and you can, you please do that. That would be the best.
I'll start searching tonight. Yeah.
If you can't find anything, I'll make it for you.
Okay. So just to the American
designer. Yeah, absolutely.
I would happily happily make you awake.
Even if it's a one-off, I'll do it because it makes the other car. Liquid hot magma, that that
would be happy. One of the questions would
revolve around. Please consider our great of
grass. Yeah, I did think of that and
that's a huge campaign to them back in 91 with the TR launch for me, that, that whole campaign was, it was a bit like dislike up. Would you please consider us
like it just, it just felt like. So like just leaving, pleading,
please can tell him. You say it like that like you
know, first we study a braid of grass, you know, and then he added and then it wasn't the car and it was the, I don't know, it was quality and style and like other Radha in 91 with the graphic equalizer and the maximum risk are, you know, the velour upholstery that, you know, you open the door.

out to her call. So I was always a fan of that
car and they had that car label. You bought it new the company
