I did actually today, because when I got to the end and I said what I said of the quiz, and for those who haven't heard it yet, then I suggest you listen because I thought it was quite funny. I completely forgot what I said.

And then I thought, well, it's got to become like a bit of a stand. I got to know what I said.

So absolutely. That's right.

And I think last week we we realised that we've got a few different plugs now we've got David's wisdom.

Yeah, we've got to come up. With something wise, yeah,

you've got to have something wise.

Jim's Jim's mowing and obviously we've got Charles deliveries.

Rob's doing everything essentially and Scotty's got for the week, but we'll get to that at the end of the show.

Let's get into some car updates though, gentlemen.

I'll start with you, Jim. You've had an interesting week.

Yes, I have had an interesting week.

So I was driving to work late last week and as I was going up the hill the engines seemed to be sort of surging a little bit and I thought it's a bit strange.

And then later on about 15 minutes down the road and I was highway driving for context, I went to accelerate the engine speed built a bit like nothing happened.

And I know it's a CDT, but even for a CDT like nothing happened.

And so took it to my mechanic and just have asked them to sort of check on it because the other thing too is that it's quite what's the temperature gauge is odd in that I can start it from stone cold and it will instantly, I don't mean build up, I mean instantly go from cold to like normal.

And then when I'm driving it can drop to like below cold or just sit at normal the entire time. It doesn't really seem to know

what it's doing. Like like so, so Jim, just for

just for some con there's like is that as soon as you flip the car and it goes ping to middle like is that?

Straight away like and it can be like, you know, been raining all night, it's dark, it's cold. I haven't touched it in like 24

hours and it will do that. Yeah, it's that, that is weird,

Yeah. And then when I'm driving, it'll

either sit at that or it will drop to quite cold.

And so I say, I said when I went and I reported the sort of the weird transmission behaviour and I said can you please check that? Because in the entire time I've

owned the car I've never replaced the thermostat and it's live in the car for 300,000 K so it probably is true.

Anyway later on I got the car back and they said the coolant was a bit low so I asked does bit low mean dangerously low or just a bit low and they said oh they're just a bit low.

So they topped it up while I was driving home.

I'll be honest, it was a little bit annoying because my mechanic is a 3 1/2 hour round trip from my house so that wasn't really what I've been hoping for anyway.

But then when I got home and then every time.

So since then after a long drive there's a there's a gurgling sound that I can hear. So cars getting a compression

test tomorrow and hopefully it's nothing too serious.

I've been a bit sad for long this week but hopefully it's not too serious. But you know it is an old cuddle

of case and it so probably is. But I'm trying to hope for the

best anyway. So for yeah, I can relate to

that. When the laser hit 300 it after

a drive it it'd have you pull over and you and you'd open the bonnet and you'd see in the overflow tank bubbles and it'd be Googling and having a bit of a fit that was, you know, combustion essentially getting into the cooling system and it turned out to be a head gasket for me.

But that might be the case for you.

It might also be like an air pocket or you know, especially if it's pinging straight away to you know, up to temp.

Just a question, when you turn the key but like don't start the car, does it go straight away to middle as well?

No, it's usually a few seconds. OK, OK.

Yeah. Like 5 to 10 seconds and that

just goes blink and it's like, OK, clearly it's not hot yet, but whatever, yeah. It would be a 40 gauge.

Could be 40, it could be a bit of a dicky gauge, or it could be. It could be the, IT could be

the, IT could be the sensor. You know, there's, there's that

possibility to like, you know, water temp sensors aren't known to last forever. But yeah, I would, yeah.

Get a leak down test as well if you can, just to see if it's, if it's, you know, the, the, the pressurizer system and see if you can hear it coming from anywhere.

I think I would, that'd be something that I would do.

That's what that's what Ratner did for me.

And we quickly found out that it was the head casket as the calling system was just like not having a good time.

So yeah, not, not a, not a good thing.

But I, you know, let's, let's just play it by ear and see how we go tomorrow when you get the car looked up.

Yeah, absolutely. I'll provide an update then,

hopefully not in tears or more things.

Now it it'll be OK and, and as I said to you, like we'll talk about this during the week, kind of trying to like Instagram diagnose. And, you know, even if it is a

head gasket, it's, it's a civic like they're, they're pretty basic engines to work on and you know, it's head off.

Skim the head, new gaskets, you know, check the bottom end, see if it's OK, you know, and then, you know, pretty much put it back together and and then you're off.

Yeah, it's not like you're it's, it's not like it's going to be a labour intensive like it would be for like an Audi or something, you know what I mean? Like that's so, yeah.

So you know, like and, and at the end of the day too, like it's, it has done a lot of K's. You know, it's permissible.

I think that's acceptable that at that at those K's, you can have an issue here and there. It's that's.

Because currently it's sitting at. 485-480-8488.

OK, well no one can say it hasn't given you servicing.

No. Correct.

But there's, as many said, it's it's a relatively simple fix.

Hopefully, yeah. Fingers.

All the fingers and toes. Crossed.

Yes, all the things. Crossed I think I think you'll

be OK, especially if it's not overheating, because if it is, then the head could be warped depends on how bad the head's been warped. You might need a new head or you

know that's worst case that's worst case scenario, but I think you'll be OK like like with with my laser didn't overheat.

It just started playing up and not not wasn't running right.

And then got to check them to turn out to be that.

And but the head wasn't porous, so it didn't go soft or anything. So it's just skim the head and

you know, and you should be, I think you should be OK.

So yeah, watch, watch this space, Jim.

Anything else in terms of cars? Not necessarily cars, but

wheels. I have had two very odd bicycle

interactions today. One before where it was coming

out of Kohl's and where I was walking out of Kohl's.

It was in line with some shops and it was around school drop off time and there was a student who was riding, almost touching the windows. They didn't see me until the

last second, freaked out and then hit a pole.

Only at walking speed, but they did sort of go over.

I asked if they were OK. They were, but they rode off at

such a speed I think they were more embarrassed than heard.

And then the other one was that when I was coming leaving work, there was a person on an electric bicycle who was riding one handed on their phone and overtook me on the wrong side of the road and stayed there for about 300 metres.

So car, Car Talk, top tip, watch where you're going.

So now they were real sympathetic about the whole circumstance and said look, you know, we'll do everything in there means to, to fix all the issues with the gearbox and the DIF and, and if we can't, we'll reimburse your money in full.

Incredible promise, yeah. Big promise, but let's see how

they go. So that was pretty good.

And they called me on a Saturday, believe it or not.

What on a Saturday? They're working on a Saturday.

They're that busy with recalls. Yeah, I'd say.

So yeah, overtime, overtime. Wow, that is unusual.

Look, it's great. I've got the car booked in for

the 18th so I'll drop it off and they'll give me a loan car until they sort out what they're going to do.

Yeah. Yeah, so they said take it back

to the the place that you got it done last time at, you know, and we'll go for it. I'll go for it again and go

through the process. So that was that.

And I got some birthday, a birthday present from my son in law. And this is one of the things

that he. Did for me, yeah.

He's 30. That's cool, that's cool.

That's great. Yeah, so he's done that and all

hand drawn. He's very talented of it.

He's a star. And he's done this one as well,

so. Oh.

find him on insta and email insta there you go so yeah cars apart from that nothing's progressed on me SCC pretty disappointed about that we haven't had any other issues with cars. All the cars are going good,

touch wood and we didn't go to the car show down is the cars and culture down St. Kilda on the weekend.

It's supposed to be pretty big. OK, so I missed out on that one

because he ended up going motorcycle riding so, but that's pretty much it. Yeah, nice, very nice.

Chad, what days for you? So I wasn't on last week.

I don't think I talked about the Mercedes before that, did I?

No, no he didn't. So with the help of Edward

Bunting, we towed the Mercedes to Rob's fainter and that's currently with him. So the problem was I couldn't

get the car started on the day that So we, so Ed, Ed came to my house and then we went and picked up a trailer and then came back. But before that I tried to get

the car started just like, you know, get it going, sort of get it ready to move, whatever, pump the tyres up and yeah, could it wouldn't start. It just kept cranking and then

Ed and I realised that it was the fuel pump not priming.

And so yeah, we had just had to push the car onto the trailer, which was kind of a pain, but the trailer also had a winch.

So that was good that we could just winch the car onto the trailer. So we got that done, went and

dropped it off and yeah, and then I went online and purchased a, what are they called, a fuel pump relay for AW2O one.

So story with that. Specifically purchased one that

was in Australia on eBay. And.

Lo and behold, it's an international shipper.

They just say like you bastards, like I needed this like even within two to three days and now it's I actually got an update from Australia Post this morning.

So it's it looks like it's in the country.

So hopefully I'll get it, yeah, by the end of this week.

But. Now, Charles.

with Australia Post, Can you find out more important?

It's one of those things I can't meddle in my own affairs within the company because it's kind of like a bit frowned upon.

There's been inside a trade yourself in a way.

Yeah, almost. And I, I did look at it like I

looked at the tracking through my system and I can't see anything because it's, it's an international 1.

So it's as soon as it hits Australia, then it becomes an Australia posting. But at that point it hadn't like

Australia posted received the information from the international shipper, but it hadn't actually like got to Australia Post Network yet. So couldn't do anything about it

anyway. But as soon as it's like in a

facility, I might try and go and pick it up somewhere because it might be faster anyway. So waiting for the part it's

going to go to Rob's painter and hopefully that will fix the starting issue and he'll be able to move the car if, when when and if he needs. But yeah, as I said, I, I told

did Rob take as long as you need, start on the SEC 1st.

And mine is not a priority. And yeah, but I just wanted to

get the car. I wanted to give him the car

that was, you know, running and so he could, like, move it if he needed to. But yeah, he he said, yeah, it's

all good. And that was it.

Yeah. Ed and I returned the trailer

and, you know, thanked him a lot.

All that's good stuff. And yeah.

So that's at the painter now that's going to get a coat of bull bear back, bear back to bare metal and epoxy primer on and and then I'll think about the paint stage after that.

So nice. We'll see how.

That colour do. You know, yeah, I believe so,

yeah. I think it is either signal red

or some some other, I don't know.

Yeah, I haven't. I haven't really.

Doubted it. Something hot.

Rot would be the red in German. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

So yeah, I'll think about the paint.

I might even go towards a livery style thing instead of a paint job. I might go full take care job

maybe on it. We'll see.

I'm still still deciding on it and trying to weigh up like the cost and the, you know, how how much work it'll be.

I still think eighties 80s DTM livery would be epic.

It's definitely on the cards because I'm trying to come up with something kind of cool for it.

So it might be an inspiration of DTM with something else.

We'll say. I don't know, I'm trying to play

around with some stuff in my head.

So. So yeah, that is the Merc.

Yeah, we can do some photoshopping, Chad.

Photoshopping I know a guy I. Know a guy?

I know a guy so that's the Merc Magna I played on the weekend a little bit with I so it's got plastic bumpers and all that.

So I pulled the I I got a there was a couple of like real deep cave in, like the corners, you know, Camry style that type of caved in bumper. So I Camry esque, that's

correct. So I, I chucked a heat gun on it

and just left it there for like 10 minutes.

So I got really nice and warm and then I got under there with a hammer and just hammered them out.

So then they're fairly like 90% straight.

They look there, you can tell someone's hammered them out, but it's better than it being caved in, I suppose.

So I got that out of the way. What else did I do?

I checked some of the suspension bits it it's going to need like at least a front set of shops and because I like looked inside one like the left hand front shock and I saw half of a bump stop just dangling there. I was like, all right, well,

that one definitely needs to be done.

Yeah, the bump stop. I can recommend a guy for the

shockers. Oh yeah, cool.

Oh yeah, I'd love to hear about that.

Yeah, I think David and I know that guy quite well.

Oh, yeah, OK, I also know him then.

Yeah. Sweet.

So I'll, I'm going to sort that out.

I've got a couple of bits, I think some of the like tie rod ends or not tie rod ends, but what are they called the the sway bar links and all that stuff.

That's very cool, Rob. That's super cool.

I've got, I've got my little 198 here as well.

It's a blue one. Nice.

Yeah. So probably a couple of

suspension bits and pieces for the Magna and hopefully that'll be all it needs for roadie. But I'll speak to it after I get

back from my overseas trip that I'll I'll put it into a roadworthy joint and see what they reckon.

So just question, your first point of call overseas, obviously when you go into Turkey is you're going to go speak to your uncle at Ford, right?

Yes, I'm going straight to the Ford manufacturing plant, wherever they make those dips. And I'm gonna, and I'm gonna

slam my fist down on the counter and say I want to talk to the guy in charge and then offer him a kebab.

Obviously 'cause that's. How you do?

This over there and yeah, so. And so you need a currency over

there. It's definitely is.

The bodek. You know the pastry.

And then we'll know if Chad's like, been successful or not because if he's successful, he'll come back with like, you know, fake hair and, and like orange skin, teeth.

Is like perfect. Basically, yeah, that'll be

So yeah, very excited for my trip.

That's the other part of the. I guess I haven't been doing

much else because I've just been getting ready for going overseas. So yeah, that's pretty much all

the updates from me. Well.

Saturday night. So yeah, I've got three weeks

Yeah, doing well, doing well, getting back into things.

Car update, not much again. I wanted to take the Skyline for

a bit of a spin on the weekend, but I hurt my I hurt my back.

But it ended up not being the back itself.

It was more the tendons and that on your hamstring connected to your butt muscle. It was more that one and I

couldn't press down on the clutch.

Yeah, that's an issue. Go back.

Go back to auto. Oh no.

Please no. No 7.

Years. No, seven years.

Yeah. I've been to my osteo on that

and I'm all good now. So that's what was happening

during the week and yeah, a little bit on the weekend.

It was still pretty sore but I'm all good now.

So just been chipping away to get that shed done.

Once I got the shed done then that leads to putting stuff in the shed which means the skyline can come over here.

Is it a big shed or is it just a like 3-3 by three shed, 6 by?

You've got to tell us a bit more about the shed.

Yeah, Rob's a shed man. He's a shed man.

It's a 3 by 2.2. OK.

So it's right size, it'll fit all the gardening crap that we've got that needs to move out of the garage.

And if I put some shelving, I'll be able to hang and move quite a lot and stack all the school stuff that are in big tubs so I can move all that out of the way as well.

Honey, we've got a three by three shed in the backyard full of plastic tubs of school stuff. Too.

Strange. It's a it's a weirdo being a

teacher. Much of it's mine either.

So, so you've got the Rob Sheds approval.

Not that great to put together though being annoying.

Actually, I'll need to come around and give you a hand and I'll pick up that model too. How's that?

Oh yeah, it's a model too. Yeah, it's a it's, it's meant to

be an easy shed. Yeah, right.

It's where it comes. Easily.

It just uses these annoying tech screws that go into it and.

I've got the little tech screw thing ratchet gun so goes pretty. Quick and just because you go on

through very thin bits of sheet metal, it just starts to bend and stuff like that. So yeah, Dad's been coming over

a couple of times and that to help out too, so when he can, it's just fiddly. Scotty, I'm just.

I'm just. I'm just picturing you looking

at, you know, like the the picture of the shed.

That's a nice looking shed. Why doesn't my shed look like

that? Like that episode of The

Simpsons with the BBQ? Yeah, yeah, yeah.

The grill. What the hell is?

That no, we got, yeah, all the all the panels all done.

The next step is to sit it all up and then connect it all.

Yeah. So that's going to be the last

bit. Just make sure you get the doors

the right, the doors the right way around you always.

I got mine mixed up and something's not right.

They don't line. Yeah, it was.

Yeah. Because yeah, ours is also a

double, double door 1. And we're just looking at the

hinges and I'm like, jeez, I hope we got the hinges right.

So it'll be a pain in the ass because they're the only things that were like pot riveted in. Everything else is screwed.

Like jeez, I hope those hinges work and I told dad I go.

If they don't, I'm just lobbing it straight over the fence to them. Beside me I'll.

Start again. Can I go over the fence?

Did did you do the slab yourself?

Couldn't do the a slab so it's pavers.

Big concrete pavers. Yeah, that OK.

Yeah, because it's on an an easement or something.

You can't have a fixed, fixed structure there.

But you can have pavers and stuffs.

It's in the corner. I've got big thick cement pavers

that we got from from Bunnings, so I've got those.

And then once that's in, there's this nice kind of rubber matting you can get from Bunnings too that I put down there and just lay down on the floor and that's it.

And then have everything in there and hopefully, hopefully two cars should fit in. So we're going to thin a proxy

the floor in the garage and the the lights, LED lights.

And I I need some decent lighting.

It's just one crappy light in there.

I need something a bit better. Yeah.

Likely. I know I'm an electrician so

that'll come in handy. I invited him to the wedding so

it could be the wedding present. I need some new PowerPoints and

I need this. And.

I need the data points PowerPoints.

Yeah, the. Office is going to go now.

It's funny because when I was getting the garage, getting the house done, you know, they asked you what lights you want, where you want, your PowerPoints and all that kind of stuff, and they asked about the light in the garage, Did you want a Batten 1 or whatever? And I said just just a normal

one would be fine. No, it throws off like light for

you to see, but there's so much shadow the shadow just kills it and you can't see anything. Like if you want to work on a

car, you've got no hope. There's just that much shadow

happening, you can't see a thing.

Costco Costco have some real nice 4 foot LED RGB ones that change colour and everything and different brightness as well.

They're about 9080 or $90.00. Each.

Oh, wow, that's pretty good. Yeah.

So that's good to know. Bad value.

cruise the whole highway system of Japan if you want.

Traffic in any car you want with manual transmission and clutch everything. I'm going to take you up on that

But yeah. And if I don't, if I don't have

the car, I can download it in no time and search and download it and you can have that car. That's brilliant.

David Prince. Well, I had quite a week car

wise. It's been been a great week

actually. So last Wednesday I headed out

to Tullamarine. There's a, a place out there, I

think it's called MPs that look after the press fleets through all manufacturers, the like Tullamarine Park Road and I picked up an FL 5 Type R, which Honda Australia were nice enough to lend me for the week, which was spectacularly good.

I do quite a bit for them sort of behind the scenes with their sort of history sort of stuff and archive of information that they threw away basically that, that I can't you guys, most of you guys that see my garage that you know, that I can't throw anything away, especially if it's got a Honda badge on it.

Yeah, but I, I put about four, about between 4 and 500 KS on it over the course of the week. Dropped it back very reluctantly

today. I was about to say, did you

return it? Well, I did send her a message

on the day afternoon I picked it up to parked outside our house at the sky and the sun. You know, it was a great shot if

I say something myself. And yeah, I said I don't know

that you'll be getting this one back.

And you know, no one's going to be surprised by the fact that I I liked it because it was a Honda, But it's freakingly, I was trying to think of the right way to describe it, but it's probably the best car I've had in my driveway and lived with in all the cars I've driven. It's they're just incredible

things. Maddie.

Well, you, you well know you've got family.

Absolutely. I, it's, I've said, I think I've

said on the show, it's probably the best car I've ever driven.

Like genuinely like in terms of what it offers performance wise.

And it's just, it feels like it was designed by people who care about driving. Yeah, and that and and that's

what that car is. And it's like, you know, unless

I become a millionaire, I'm not going to be able to afford a Porsche GT3 Rs. But this is pretty much as close

as you're going to get in terms of, you know, for under 100 grand. It's.

On that, I mean when they came out so many Rd tests that I looked at and and and consumed started off with you know how Honda think they can charge 70,000.

Dollars for a city because it's just outright.

You know, went, went, went, went, went, went, went, went, went, on and on and on. And then pretty much all of them

by the last paragraph going actually it's really good value because of what you get. It's like it's like 3 or 4 cars

in one. I mean, that car was as happy

doing a run to Bunnings as an early morning blast across the Black Spur. You know, like it was the most

involving, exhilarating car to drive.

Take key takeaways. I won't bore you silly with it

because I could talk all night about it.

It made you feel like you're a good driver #1 and I think that's a sign of a really good car.

It made me, made, made me feel young again.

That's pretty, pretty impressive for a car.

You know, I there was a trouble in my life where if Type Rs, particularly the FN 2 springs to mind.

I just thought, you know what, I think I'm past that stage of my life. You know, this is just a bit too

harsh and a bit too rivy and a bit too wait, wait, wait.

Not so the FL 5. My goodness, it's an incredible

thing. So.

It, it's that card, David Prince.

It for me, it's, it's actually a masterpiece for what it can do like the chassis dynamics, the ride, the, the compromise between the different levels in the state sports modes and R Plus and all that. And that kind of in the

individual mode was brilliant because you can, you can customise everything, but with the soft suspension and, and, and, you know, and the, the, the seats are incredible.

The gearbox is great. It, it, it, it auto matches

right, You know, on the down on, you know, on, on, on the downshift. And it's as a, as a driving

tool. It is one of the 8 wonders of

the, of the car world. Like it, it, it really is in

terms of, you know, if you got to put like your supercar, your front wheel drive car, your real drive, like, that'd be the front wheel drive car benchmark. And every time I've driven my

mum's one, I'm just like, God, this thing's good.

Like it's just, it just does everything well, it doesn't feel like it's too highly strung. It doesn't feel like you're

having to Rev the nuts off it to get it to go anywhere.

It doesn't feel, it doesn't feel fragile.

It feels, well, engineered. And that for me is a sign of a

of a good car. And and I can't speak highly

enough of NFL Five. Yeah, all the touch points are

good. You know how it makes you feel.

Oh that Alcantara wheel epic. Amazing in your hands.

Epic. Yeah.

It's, it's, it's a, it's a very special car and it's, I think for those of you who actually have one, it's a, it's definitely a sense of occasion car.

Like absolutely it is like but. Every drive every drive is is a

delighted it's it's every every time I started the engine, I thought, wow, this is something very cool downsides won't fit in my garage. I tried to get back reverse it

down my my driveway, which is tight to the caddy because I live in a house built in the 50s and the chimneys very close to the fence. So luckily all my Hondas go go

down really easily, except for this thing.

I wasn't going to try and get it.

I I don't think it would have fitted.

I I reversed it down as as close as I could.

The sensors were going nuts the closer I got to got to it.

And yeah, so it's it is a wide car.

And then of course the type has wider again with the body flares and the and the like. So yeah, the cheeky photos.

I was going to take it in my garage.

They they don't exist because I couldn't get it in the garage.

My beautiful wife's takeaway was from it doesn't have heated seats like she just can't having had seated heated seats in the car. She cannot understand the logic

of not having heated seats in the car like that.

Mind you, the grippy bright icy ring red Alcantara, I don't think he really needed them because it was like sleeping with flat lit bed sheets. You know, it's so warm and.

It's funny to answer that when I was speaking to Kath about that car, she's like, it doesn't have heated seats.

Like, like, like you. You and my mom both said the

same thing about the bloody heated seats.

Yeah, yeah. I must find out if the update

because there's an update coming out, you know, this month.

OK, very, very minor upgrade, but luckily it includes racing blue. Now you can order it in racing

blue, which is stunning colour on them.

Yeah. So that that they were the only

two things that that were wrong. And and hey, I'd buy another

house if it meant that I could get a Type R.

So we'll watch this space. I need something, yeah.

Having said that, the N1RS has heated seats and it's a 6 speed manual and it fits down my driveway so.

Basically a typo. It's basically a typo.

Well, it's got a typo benches on it, so it must be.

yesterday when I saw her, you know, she's like, I can't believe it's that expensive and doesn't have a body.

So I'm like, my mom said the same thing because my mom, my mom's like your fiesta's less than half the price of this bloody thing. And it comes with a heated

seats. How does that make sense?

She's like, it's even got a heated stereo.

Where's my heated stereo? Yeah.

And she's and I had to, I'd say mom, It's it's pretty much a race car though. You don't.

Race cars don't need that stuff. That's right, you don't need

hidden seats in a race car. Reduces weight.

So that was that was fantastic. I loved everything about it.

Even though even when I returned it back to the place today, the guy said to me, the, the guy behind the camera said, oh, what did you think? I said, oh, I said I bloody love

it. I said it's really hard to drop

it back. He said.

He said we get a lot of car through cars through here and he said that is the stand out car for me of all the cars we get from every manufacturer to loan out to press from press assignments and stuff. He said they and I thought,

well, OK, it's not just me. It's it's lots of people.

I think you get behind the wheel of 1 and if you're lucky enough to get the chance to live with one even for, you know, a few days, Yeah, very impressive. Also impressive during.

My week. Special car.

Also impressive during my week was we finally unearthed the pre the 88 Accord SI from my neighbour's garage.

I enlisted the help of a couple of people and pushed it.

This is the one that's done 97,000 KS from new but has not been started in 20 nearly 25 years.

So we pushed it out of our neighbour's garage across the street into my driveway where it's now going to live for a little while. And chatting.

Maddie saw it last night. It's it's a pretty lovely old

example. Bloody hell.

Like Chad, when we saw that car, it was like.

Impressive. It's more than impressive,

David, it's it's spectacular. I think there were 7 sheets

lying on top of it, you know, protected from the, from the dust and the like and the interiors smell.

It still smells like an 80s Honda.

It it's completely original. Yeah.

And after you guys left, my mate Malcolm came over and we, he, he went over a bit more with a mechanical eye than me.

We freed up the butterfly that was just wouldn't move at all.

The they actually throttle pedal wouldn't move at all because it was all going up. But we got that, that active and

moving sort of drain plug in the bottom of the fuel tank.

So we don't take the fuel tank out.

So we'll drain that off and put some nice fresh petrol in it, clean the injectors, make sure it still turns, which it should.

It's still got plenty of oil. Yeah.

So hopefully that will come good pretty soon.

That's exciting. Another project, just what we

need. Would recommend to try and like

disconnect one of the fuel lines from the tank and just and once you get once you've clear out the the old fuel and put new fuel in it, just to like empty out the fuel that's in the lines. Yes, just just by just by

triggering the fuel pump just to push some of it out.

Yeah, that would be a good start before it gets to the rail and back into the tank and all the sure yeah.

So. Yeah, so it's a bit like a

reawakening. We've got to gently reawaken it

to get it back and running and reliable.

That's the thing. Then then we've got to drive it

and hopefully all the seals won't decide.

Oh, so you want me to seal the engine?

That's and there'll be a bit of that I'm sure, but hopefully we can minimise that. I think I mentioned this mate of

mine went on Rock Auto and, and made up a shopping list of things that he potentially could need.

And it's less than $300.00 for pretty much every consumable

thing in gasket and that that you need.

So timing bill, water pump, all those sorts of things because they, they sold so many of them over there.

I mean their their spare parts are pretty cheap so.

They they really love them over there.

Don't they like those old Honda? They're they're like America's

probably would you say outside of Japan, their biggest, their biggest market. Oh, correct.

Yes, 100%. It had been for many, many

years. Yes.

Yeah. So interestingly, that CA

Accord, which this is the pop up headlight third Gen Accord, people have long crowed about the fact that it was the first the first Japanese car designed outside America and exported back to Japan because in America they actually designed a 2 door coupe with a boot because Honda Honda in Japan produced the sedan and the Hatch. But yeah, Americans like their 2

door coups with a boot and that. But interestingly, in the last

12 months I have debunked that theory.

I think it was actually the second car designed out Japanese car designed outside of Japan and exported back to Japan.

The first being the TN Mitsubishi Magna station waggon.

So that's an argument I'll have to have with someone from Honda America one day, but I'm up for it.

He'd be like, why aren't you 100, guy?

It's in blue. So I got I got a little Forester

model to put in there. She may be one for the Camry

with the, with the black striper in in there around it.

So that's, that's, that's like that.

This one's for my mom for the XR8 with the with the little red stripe around it. Got one up there, yellow for the

scamp, similar for the typhoon, green for the Fiesta and black at the bottom for the laser. So you know, it's, it's a yeah,

it's a cool little gift. I was very happy and was very

thankful because that's that's kind of cool.

So I will be putting them to use at some point.

Updates with me, what have I done?

I've had a busy weekend. Went to the snow, took the

forester U to the snow. Geez, it flies in cold weather

like that car, like at 0° on the boost.

It just, it sounds like it's got an extra, you know, million horsepower and it just, it just rips like it ripped through even stuff was like this. Still, it feels a lot faster.

So yeah, that it went really, really well.

That was fine. It's a great snow car, great dog

car, all the above. So to all the lesbian soccer

mums out there, great car. Then yesterday picked up the

Toyota Camry. So thank you, David Prince, I

want to thank you, first of all. So you went there, down there

and paid, paid for it for me because I wouldn't have wouldn't have been able to get there before they shut.

He picked up the key. I picked up the key off him.

Chad, thank you. And I missed the help of Chad to

give me a lift down there. He was.

I think he was just as excited as I was just to see the car.

I've been bugging you for weeks. Oh dude, where's the car ready?

Yeah. So we head down, we headed down

there in the in the lovely I-30 Amsterdam.

That's a that is a cool car. Like I it's, it's, it's, if you

want an FL 5, but like don't want to spend exorbitant amounts of money for the FL 5. You know, the I-30 and sedan,

I'm going to say it is 99% of the car, but it's, it's a big, it's a it's, it's a big call, but I think it's a fair call.

It's it does everything that the, that the type I can do.

Yes, it's not as powerful. Yes, it's probably not as in

terms of driving refined, but comes with a lot more kit and you know, heated seats. Yep, and I ran around.

No, and cooled. And cooled and cooled.

Wow. And I ran away.

Just another thing to break. Yeah, but but I ran a race track

there's there's really not much in between that and the Type R So I think, yeah, I think it's I think Hyundai have absolutely nailed that car. So we got to David's and then we

saw that lovely Accord and then we went and picked up the Camry and here we start and driving it, it felt so much better than the first time I drove it. It felt actually, you know, it

felt a lot more cohesive. I've got a list of things I need

to do to to the car. So I went and ordered my parts

today. So it needs for pretty much for

a Rotary needs needs a windshield.

So if you guys know any windshield people, let me know.

Front of our engine mounts timing case leak, but I want to see if I can clean that up and see how I go.

We're going to cover gaskets. I've ordered.

What else did I order? Some some bushes, front brake

lines because they're starting to crack and I said I need to order. There's a couple of a couple of

just little things. So but it but it wasn't bad like

it wasn't a bad list. Anyway, driving on driving at

home. Chad followed and smooth little

way home, gave it a boot full and saw all the brown rust come out of the exhaust and it was like pelting cars.

I was like, Oh no, poor Chad's cars behind me.

But then I did it on the freeway today and I gave it a few.

I gave it a few, you know, hits to get it to clean it out and it seemed to have cleared it a lot more.

I guess when it casts out for so long, you know, that's a type of things you expect. But I dropped that off my my

mom's be in the driveway and I'm going to book that in for next week once I get all those parts in to get it kind of sorted and start chipping away bits and pieces and hopefully get that on the road soon. But yeah, it just it just

flooded back like all the times I remember driving it.

And here's a good thing about it.

The more I drove it, the better it got.

Like it was like it was it felt like the car was waking up.

Yes, the transmission was a bit jumpy because the engine mounts are completely shot, but you know, it just felt like it was it felt like a car that was waking from its slumber.

It felt like it was, you know, everything was just, you know, starting to to to really get in to get and on the freeway it was it was flying and I I gave it a beautiful from from a from a set of lights and I'm like, oh, like, you know, and the car just started it. It feels like you wanted to Rev

and it started to it was actually kicking down in the transmission. Now I was like, oh, it wasn't

doing this the first time I drive it, it was really not happy. But this time it was just like

perfect it. I couldn't I couldn't get over

how how good it drove from the last time I drove it.

I took it to work today because I was like, well, I don't have time to drop it off to my mom. So I took it to work, parked in

the work car park and then dropped it home afterwards.

And a few people at work are like, this is actually kind of a cool car. So, so that it was good, but

Chad was I think Chad, you were you, you loved it.

You, you were, you were really impressed.

And David, you drove it yesterday too, so.

I did. I did.

It was great. It's really impressive.

Like it's really, it's a really good neck and the interior is like nearly Immaculate. It's just like so nice and it's

got a lot of, it's got a lot going for it for sure.

I've driven a few V enters and stuff like that with the three litre beats. There are three litre yeah, that

is the 2.5 earlier tech, earlier engine, so that's 90.

So what's that? 35 years ago that is there's

such a a smoothness to those Toyota V sixes.

It's just so refined. My SV 21 yeah, it was just a the

two litre twin Cam which was was a great engine, but the yeah the V6 was next level. Yeah, it, it was like, it was

remarkably, it's still remarkably smooth Despite that the engine mounts were, were not great.

You know, like you'd only feel the engine mounts really badly when it'd change a gear because the, you know, the the whole engine would rock. But you know, on the freeway

sitting at 100 with the cruise control working and everything, it's just like, oh, this feels great.

Like it felt like it was meant to do it.

So that was a really nice drive home actually yesterday, even though it was crappy traffic and I thought the police were going to pull me over, but that was a really nice drive.

I was just, I couldn't, I couldn't, I couldn't get the smile off my face because it just reminded me of when I was a kid. You know, it even smells a.

Simple time. Some would say a better time.

But. It just reminded me, like even

it smelled like the, the cars, you know, like our camera as a kid, like it had that same smell, you know, and it's funny how like, you know, as humans, we can put smells and, and things to like, you know, connect with, connect with cars and connect with things. And like, I remember opening the

door, like when I first looked at the car, like this is this is my childhood. This, this smells, this smells

like childhood. So even down to the the oil

burning off the exhaust from the rocker cover gaskets, that was that was that was. That's a built in feature.

It's a built in, it's a safety feature, as David Prince would say, safety feature. No, it was great.

Like I just, I couldn't get the smell off my face.

The the tips look fantastic on it.

Like they they just they just finished it off on the exhaust.

So yeah, I was really, really happy.

Yeah. Now, now it's just the like I

said, I've ordered the parts. I'm just going to start chipping

away at it now. I'll probably give it a clean on

the weekend, give it a nice clean and then start, you know, start the process of, you know, putting it together essentially and and getting it going. But wanted to thank you guys a

You know, saving me back at the would have broke down that the first time and so and all the above.

tonight's topic, gentlemen. Now we've we continued last week

from the week before asking questions.

We're going to finish that section with the 2000s and the 20 tens our car selections from then.

Let's go with the 2000s. Now the 2000s were an

interesting time. I think cars in the 2000s really

shaped, you know, how we got cars say like if you look at cars in from the early 2000s to the late 2000s, yeah, let's say let's 2009, 2010 cars really haven't changed much from 2010 to how they are now in terms of I think styling.

I think they've kind of kind of plateaued.

Like I mean obviously that they they look a lot more modern with different lights and stuff, but like in terms of design and and aspects, I don't think there's much there has been much changed. But having said that, I still

think the 2000 has some really, really, you know, classy and, and well aged cars like A and I know David Prince will disagree with me here, but I think that the Bengal era cars have slightly aged better than than I would have thought at the time.

And I would, I would have an A60 now, I think they're a good looking car now. I think they've aged out of all

these cars that they're the ones that that's the one that's aged best. But what is your pick of the

2000 now? Now, Rob, we kind of touched on

this a few weeks ago, but like we didn't fully explore it.

And you, you said XL6 turbo would, would you stand by that, by by that or would you have thought of something different in the 2000s? No, it's still.

Stand by it. And that's it.

Let's go, let's move on. 2010 FGX Turbo.

He's just continuing. He's just continuing the six

silver turbo thing from 6 silver thing from last week.

But yeah, so you so your XL6 turbo, like you're talking BB series XL6 turbo. It was a it was a game changing

car for Australia. It was a game changing car for

performance sedans. Actually, you know, it's a

$45,000 car that was, you know, quicker than the V eights and, you know, arguably more tunable and had, you know, had a bit of a cult following. I think that's a great and I

think I still think B series Fords have aged really nicely.

I think they're a good design, which is funny because it was based off the AU design, which is, you know, which a lot of people don't really don't realise because they did such a good job of hiding it. But the basic architecture was

AU. But they've, you know, they made

them a very handsome vehicle. And I think I'm with you on that

one. I think that's a great choice.

But you, Chad, what's your pick from the 2000s?

I think I had to think about it a couple of weekend weeks ago as well when we talked about it initially.

But I can't go past the era of like when Honda released the Accord Euro, the CL7 and then CL9.

But see, that was the Type R and whatnot.

But yeah, the the CL set, yeah, the Euro R is kind of just sorry, the Accord Euro is quintessentially, I think for me the the car of the 2000s, just because it was like the perfect size. The looks still look good today.

Like the, the design language of it still looks great, but it's aged amazingly well. And I think it's one of those

cars that can just do it all. Like it's the one car that you

could have potentially for the rest of your car ownership life and be able to do everything you want.

I mean, you know, not obviously whole a lot of stuff, but like it'll hold a family, it'll fit a lot in the boot and it'll just keep going. And I think Honda just really

smashes it out of the park. Absolutely. 2000s There's a few

floating around in my head. I'll narrow it down to probably

the C63 AMG. 284. Yep, when it first came out.

Looks nice. I like the look of that C Class

and you can't beat that V8 to handbuilt thing.

Sounded insane so that is my pick.

Yeah. I think that's, I think that's a

great. I think that's a great, I think

that's a great choice. Well, again, I I think I got

the, I got the brief wrong a little bit, I think.

And I did this last week too. I've just found the list that I

I've written last week and I'm interested to see for the 2000s, one of the most significant cars I put down was the Prius.

Yeah, I mean, that was that was a daggy sort of, you know, attempt, but my goodness, it really revolutionised the way the world saw hybrid cars. Really that I'd like, I should

have Googled it. I haven't yet, but how many

Priuses there have actually sold internationally?

But yeah, I mean, hands down runaway hybrid success of the last 20 years. It's a game changing car.

The Prius isn't. It well, it was, I think it, of

course there was downsides. It there was actually a syndrome

in America called death by Prius because people couldn't hear it coming getting run over that that wasn't ideal.

But but yeah, I think I think Toyota being Toyota of course brought reliability to something that a lot of people were probably a bit maybe a bit circumspect or or a bit concerned might not be a reliable long term thing.

We've I've got we've got a friend who who who had had one from new. The car is pretty munted.

It's lived outside. He cannot drive to can't park a

car to save himself. But he's just had a new battery

installed at 270,000 KS I think because he said, well, it's he's he's in his 80s now and he said this it's been the best car I've ever owned. I think a new battery was two

and a half, $1000. And he said, well, lot less than

buying a new car. So he's a new battery put in and

yeah, he's just gonna keep driving it.

Nothing is an episode on it. Yeah, true.

On the hybrid. That's a good episode.

So popular. It's an important car.

Like it's for me though. Do you guys get the feeling that

like there was cars pre Prius and post Prius, like it was a it was a car. It was a car that like

transcended a bit of time because when it came out, people like, you know, I don't know about this, but it's still the test of time. And now everything's virtually a

hybrid or electric car. So it's it was, it was actually

a trendsetter before you knew what you knew what actually was.

And I mean, you know, it had celebrity endorsements like, you know, I think Brad Pitt and, and all those people bought them and Angelina Jolie, I think bought 1:00 and all these people.

But yeah, it was a it's, it was, you know, and as weird as it is to say, it's kind of a a class as car like you, like you, you, you do you. It's hard to believe a Prince is

a class as car, but you know, people from all walks of life and you know, rich, poor, they all went and bought Priuses because inventicom was saving the world.

But you know, it was a it was a it was a mind boggling thing when they when they first came out.

So yeah, it's an important. It was a similarity to the mini,

of course, and, and when it was released.

And, and even as I said last week, the the first civic in the early mid 70s, classless is a good word.

It was a bit different in that that they weren't known for their cuteness. It was, it was known for, you

know, the a lot of the environmentally minded people thinking about doing the right thing.

But the, the argument with a lot of current electric cars is that they're not going to last very long.

But that can't be levelled at the original Prius.

It's it's not unusual to see them on the road. 25 years old.

Yeah. They're still, they're still

playing around. No, I think that I think that's

a great choice, Scotty. I think your choice is great too

with the C63W2O four. I think that car in particular

that kind of was like AMG's comeback car, like like a proper, you know, this is what we can do when we actually try in a, in a good chassis, you know, and it actually genuinely a good car. So, and that engine's just a

masterpiece. And, you know, and Chad, you

know, the, the Accord Euro, like the first year Accord Euro is just, you know, it's still, I think it's, I think it's aged better than the, than the, the, the its successor.

And it's yeah, absolutely. And I think I think it could

pass as a more modern car if you didn't look at the inside, you know what I mean? Because it's, it is, you know, a

really good looking car. So, so, so we've got really

good, I think we've chosen some really handsome designs, you know, B series Falcon Exosix Turbo, you know, we've got the first Gen Accord Euro, you know, 2O4C63 and the Prius is it wasn't really a they're not shouty cars.

They're kind of they're kind of aged really nicely.

Jim, are you going to continue this theme where you're going to go completely something left field?

A little bit just quickly, I I do completely agree with the according to your XO 6 turbo, while the inner child of me will be fuming, I would also extend that to the territory, I think.

Yeah, quite significant here, I think.

But what I'll actually put, which is very mass market and very boring, I reckon the Honda Jazz actually, yeah, because such a practical car. I know in my family you can fit

two adults, 3 American Bulldogs and a four weeks of shopping in it. I've seen them with.

Donkeys in them. Like they're so spacious.

Yeah, I've seen donkey that people like actually fold the seats that were donkey in. Yeah, I've seen that.

And of course that they use for nugget nationals and stuff like that now and. They don't call them magic seats

for nothing, Jim. Yeah, so they're they're quite

birthed her little cow. I think it is a bit of a shame

that Honda didn't think that they could have maybe like, you know, MX fired a little bit that would have been good, but absolutely correct. But.

That car, that car was yearning for a hot one.

That was yearning for a hot version.

Like, you know, if there was ever a little super Mini that was that needed a hot version of it, it was the Jazz like it was it had the the right chassis, everything.

I'm with you, Jim. It it needed that.

So that's my slightly Westfield choice.

I think I think it's a great choice.

I would yeah, I completely agree.

I'm going to go well, I had a few and I'll tell you the one I'm picking, but I'll give you I'll give you my runners up, my runners up the Aston Martin DB9. I think it's just a or DBS.

I think it's just a stunning it still looks good today, possibly a bit of a Casino Royale tragic and the DBS is in that.

So there was there was that I was I'm also kind of a bit of a I've got a bit of a soft spot for the BLOB.

IWRXI think that was a really. Yeah, yeah.

Important car that especially in an STI, it was, you know, just iconic. I'm going to go I'm going to say

a car that really shook up the Australian market and and Australia took it overseas was the hold of Monaro.

It was it's an it's an iconic car.

It looked the business. It had AV8 manual transmission,

real drive, you know it 2 door, 2 doors coupe, you know, everywhere it went, people loved it.

It was loved in America, even though it didn't sell.

It was loved in the UK, even though it didn't sell.

It was, it was, you know, loved here, even though it didn't sell too bad too badly. But that car in particular, it's

it kind of, you know, as a concept, it was like it was, it was pretty much ready for production.

I think it was, it was an unvalid the 99 motor show or the 2000 motor show. I can't remember when it was

Sydney Motor Show. But then, you know, it's put in

production early 2001 or two. And it was just, you know, they

still look good today. And I think that was one of the

coolest things Australia had had done at the time.

And every time I see one, you know, I'd say, well, especially if I see like a later CV8Z, that's, that's the business for me. I think that car in particular

was, it showed what what we as Australians could do in terms of design and what we as Australians could, could produce and yeah, grey car. Loved it in that light blue

colour. In in a CV8Z.

Nice it that car for me is just even in that burnt orange colour that they you could get them in the CVA and Z.

You could get like all leather. These are leather interiors to

So yeah, I'm, I'm a fan of that car.

I would, I would happily have one in my garage and I would happily defend it to the heels because I think that car is a is a. Jeremy Clarkson tick of

approval. It did in the Vauxhall version

of it. Dude, it was that good.

Do you remember that? Like he was like, he was like, I

even liked it like it was. Yeah.

And that's that's a hard car to, you know, that's a hard thing to to get. So yeah, it's for me, that's a

really important car. But I think great choices,

gentlemen. I think they are cars that have

stood the test of time and I think that they are they're you know, looking back in about 10 years time, people be like, Oh yeah, that was a damn good car. You know, I called you AC or two

O 4 Jazz were great. Like, you know, you know that

they've all been nuggeted to death, but they're still a great car. You know, like that's that

that's also going to lead me to A to a question we can have for for another day. What Car needed a hot version?

And I think a Jazz was was, you know, it was crying for a hot version that that would've been that that would have done so well. Imagine that against a Fiesta

St. Even The Mirage had a hot

version didn't. Even The Mirage had hot

versions. Yeah, correct.

So, you know, that's. Yeah.

What Car has is your car of the 20 tens?

We'll start with David Prince. Well again referring to this

list and I've already rabbited on about them, but I mind of the 20 tens was the FKA. OK. 2017 that was released and

yeah, that was the the, the one, as I alluded to earlier about the the FN two had left me a bit cold and a bit bit sad that that I might have been beyond it, but the the FKA had actually restored my faith in in fun cars.

So yeah, I remember my first drive in FK 8 very well.

The FK 8 that's that's a great choice.

It's it was polarising in terms of design great, but in terms of in terms of to to drive great car and it the F 05 is kind of just built from that be a good choice.

that got like hot versions and stuff.

I didn't realise that. Honda CRZ.

It did, yeah. A bit of a virgin put together.

We never got that in Australia though, I think.

For the 20 tens, it was hard for me to narrow down one car.

So it was kind of, I guess an era or a collection.

It all makes sense, but it's kind of cars that were only in America. But that revolution of muscle

cars coming back again with the old style, the old style look.

So you had the Mustang, you had the Challenger, the Chargers with their the Kamara coming back in the 20 tens and stuff.

So mine was, yeah, not really picking on one car, but picking on this era that had just been revitalised back and making these cars that whole classic retro look of muscle cars that was that was coming back. So that was that was kind of my

pick for the 20 tens. I'm going to say fair play to

America for doing that. Like you know, these were cars

that were so out of fashion, especially, especially juices during GFC there were these cars were being built.

Yeah, like in designed yeah. Like to see like 2008.

They've been being put together and designed and they still want to they still want to head with it.

That's it's a pretty ballsy move and I think that they did a great job. Like if you had to pick one

Scotty, the Mustang, Camaro or the Challenger slash Charger, what would you go for? I have to go for the dodge.

I think they just let's all the different versions that they did the the red eye, the devil you know, insane versions, the amount of horsepower to come out of that factory with warranty and everything that engine ended up in everything.

It ended up in everything in just like daily forward drives, you'd get this 700 horsepower supercharged V8 in it just in your 4 wheel drive. So hats off to him to make

something that reliable with that much power and easily add more to it too and not have issues, not even have to crack open the motor. Yeah, it's they absolutely

nailed, nailed that brief. You know, let's make a muscle

cut, let's bring it back and. Yeah, because I'll never, I'll

never forget that. I'm pretty sure it was the demon

and it came with a crate, the wooden crate and had the extra parts and the thin front wheels and stuff for it that.

Do you remember how much the crate was?

How much was it? $1.00.

Oh. It was $1.00.

It was $1.00 because, you know, it was pretty much to make it,

you know, ready for the drag strip.

It was amazing the cars that they would just generate and the colour choices too, like they kept it with the retro colours of the old Chargers, the purple and everything and the really bright green and stuff, so it was cool.

They're not like a refined vehicle, but you like if you ever stand next to one, my God, they've got presents like they're just huge. They're huge, they're huge and

they look menacing. And I'm like, first of all, I

couldn't believe how many I saw in Japan, like Japan love them.

But like I remember seeing that green one in Japan and it was a it was a wide body challenger. And I'm like, my God, it's

massive. Like it's fat arched and just it

look, it looks angry. And yeah, if you want a car

that's got presents, that's absolutely it's got it in spades if if that's what you want to do.

So yeah, very cool. I think.

Great choice, Scotty, Good choice.

Predictable, I guess for me, but just cars are quite a long time accessible sort of fun motoring wasn't had sort of fallen off the radar. I guess in a lot of cars that

were entertaining had become quite expensive was the Toyota, Subaru twins, I think a six and BRZI think.

Good choice. I did also think about the ND

MX5, which I think made an X5. I should be more accessible

again. But I think just the added

practicality of the other two and just yet making it a bit more easier for people who, you know, didn't have significant savings lying around that could actually buy a car that was found to drive without using their licence necessarily.

So like. Do you remember when they came

out, Jim? Like the hype was, was real.

Like everybody was obsessed with them.

Why can't we do something like that again?

Yeah, it was, it was definitely everywhere.

I do, you know, we just sort of wondered that.

And there's, well, at least to my way of thinking, there's so lethal available now unless you're spending big dollars.

I mean, I know all cars are expensive now, comparatively speaking, but yeah, what's, I mean, look, I mean, like, yeah, the I-20 is still accessible, which is good.

And I think that, you know, the N cars in general are accessible, but by and large, you haven't got a broad thing to choose from because, you know, we're all caging to SUV's now.

They have their place, but I haven't found one that I haven't just felt like I was falling asleep driving yet.

Yeah. So I, I think they brought a lot

of promise that, you know, you could make enjoyable motoring accessible again without burning through tonnes of fuel, able to have fun themselves like that, obviously.

And, you know, the promise of, you know, fairly reasonable build quality and things like that too because of it not being European, obviously. So that helps.

I wanted to say, Jim, to add to that point, like like these were what low 30s on the road back when they came out in 2013 or 2012, whenever they whenever, whenever it was.

And this was a back to basics, real drive sports car, you know, like not superpower. It was a proper back.

Like it came with pre spec tyres.

You know, I don't remember all the reviews were saying this is the most easiest car to slide around because it's got the the the shittiest tyres. You could just slide it around

everywhere and you know, and they, they loved it and they're like, this is, you know, this is what the people have been asking for. And it showed what happened

because it because that to that point, it showed what happened when, you know, the car companies listened and they gave people what they wanted because they sold buckets of the first Gen Toyota brews. Like you go out today, just go

down your Nordstrom and I guarantee you'll see one.

They sold tonnes of them and for good reason.

I think there I think that is a massive car for for that era gym. I think you've you've absolutely

nailed it with that. Yeah.

I just, yeah, I, as you said, I think it brought back that, you know, ability to sort of enjoy driving what you wanna drive.

And yeah, as, as we know, they've gone on to have the one make series and everything, which is good.

I, I do know some people have bought the newer ones and I, I look personally I, I prefer to look at the new ones, but they're, they're so much dearer. So I sort of wonder if they've

lost a lot of the appeal because they're not as accessible as they once were in my field. Are they?

They're high 40s now. I think so.

I think, I think the BRZ is about like 48 or something, yeah. Yeah, it's, it's, it's a jump.

Like I mean, people talk about the FL 5 jumping from the FK, but that's that's pretty much a similar jump in terms of price, so. Yeah, it's really double.

Yeah, yeah. I mean, like, to be fair, I also

like the MX5 Heritage edition and that's like 60 something.

So yeah, you can't really complain.

But still like, yeah, not a cheap car anymore, no.

No, it's not, but good choice, Chad.

Yeah. So Jim actually touched on both

of the cars that I wanted to sort of mention.

But yeah, I think the pick for me it's because I mean Mazda have always done A10 yearly sort of release with the MX5.

And I think when they just when they dropped it in 2015, you know, after the BRZ and 86 release, so a few a few years later after that, I just think for the money, I don't know if you can really buy 86. I think comes really 86.

Somebody has like come really close to the fun of being able to sorry, the fun you can have in that a you know, 2 door coupe like an MX5. Obviously money is probably

about the same. I think a an MX5 now is probably

more expensive even compared to the upper market of a BRZ.

They're closer, I think. I think they're closer these

days in terms of price like the MX5 was always more expensive.

But in terms of like where they are currently in the market, I think they've they've the gaps definitely close between the two, the 2. Tops yes, I think MX5 would be

the winner for me They again they kept listening because they never really stopped listening Mazda kept listening to what people wanted with the MX badge and you know I think they really nailed it with the ND series and it's still it's still great looking up 10 years later and it still looks it was just designed this year but you know no that design's been around for 10 plus years now yeah that's really cool I just.

I love that they drew a line in the sand because the NBA was a bit bigger and then the NNC was, you know, a bit blobby really compared to the earlier ones. And it was like they said, no,

no, we're diluting what this car's all about.

And yeah, back, back to basics, yeah.

Pretty much basics, yeah. Yeah.

It's not. That the NC was a bad car.

No, no, no. It's, you know, it's.

Like all generations of cars. I took a photo of the FL 5 that

I had during the week next to a 75 Civic the other day that was like on the side of the street. And so, yeah, I mean, that's 50

years, but my goodness, it's double the size, you know, So it, it, it had just fallen victim to what every manufacturer does and just, you know, just and, and incrementally increase the size of the car.

Yeah, it's like what Turner did with the 86.

They went back to a small river drive, like very similar size to an AE86 store. It's still bigger because of

safety reasons and whatnot, but they sort of, yeah, they, they dialled, diluted it back to what it was.

And they're like, yeah, this is, this is the car that it should be. And they went ahead with it.

And Mazda did the same thing. They they came back to the sort

of their roots and they went, yeah, this, this the car is supposed to be a small, lightweight rear wheel drive car and we went back to it. Maybe they can do that with the

mini. Yes.

I think it's due for it to be honest.

And almost this. The new mini almost looks a bit

smaller than the previous Gen. I don't know if it's just the

designing. I used to design because it

There's a good documentary I watched on YouTube about it and they, they explain all the steps, like all the pieces in place that that happened, that screwed, you know, GM Holden over. I mean, it was, it was actually

I didn't know all these, like I knew there was, excuse me, issues, but GM Holden was always for the most part profitable.

And a lot of people don't realise that.

And what a lot of people don't realise too is that they butchered the company because they they sent their best engineers over to over to Korea, the Today with Korea to train the people who were going to take over their jobs like, and that like that's, that is such a so.

We, you know, we should be proud of that car because it wasn't, it wasn't, it wasn't a bad car. Yeah, they've got, they've had

the issues with the transmission, the torque converters, but you know once that sort of they're, they're mostly pretty good. One of the reason to buy a

Absolutely. My pick is a car that I actually

own, which is the Ford Fiesta St.

It won every of the year award that it entered.

This is even like the the the previous year and the current Gen like the current Gen, I think came out late 2019, early 2020. But you know, I'll put that in

there Top Gear car of the year twice.

You know, in terms of what it what it offered was a fun little cheap car for, you know, for the masses and it and it delivered in spades And it, it showed that cheap hot hatches could still be fun and still be good and reliable and, and accessible.

And like, I know we, we, we rag on Ford Australia a lot on this show. Rob's not not included, but.

They're great. But, you know, Ford Australia

didn't have to offer the, the, the Fiesta St here, like they could have said, no, you're not getting it.

And the fact that they still offered it in, in Australia, even though they didn't sell the, the normal Fiesta towards the end shows, you know, that they, they were committed to, to giving people a fun, you know, fun alternative to, to, you know, fun alternative little car.

It's it's kind of like especially the like the first Fiesta St that that we got, you know, well, the the mark 7 and and mark a like in America, when they got the mark 7 Fiesta St, it was, you know, all motoring journalists bought that car because they said this is, it's that good that we're going to buy this this cheap little, you know, poor, you know, poorly, you know, finished little car it.

But it's, it's epically good to drive.

I always say if a if a an automotive journalist buys a car, you know, and they put their.

Good sign. Isn't it yeah, yeah, when they

put their hard earned in an actual you know, on a on a vehicle, it's a great sign. It shows that the the company

got it right and and Ford for the Fiesta St they they got it right. So yeah, that for me is the the

peak of the of the 2000s. They just they they, they

absolutely nailed that little car.

And everyone that drives on is like they walk away from saying, you know what, that's actually a lot of fun.

It's and fun is something that was missing in the 2000s, I think in a in a lot of ways and especially accessible fun.

And that's why, that's why your choice of the the toebrews gym, you know, the toebrew twins, you know, that was, you know, accessible fun like that, that it gave fun to the masses.

And, and you know, people need that.

Look, you might have a crappy day at work and but you hop in your car and you take the long way home because it's more fun, you know, And if a car makes you makes you feel happy when you get home because you've you've done that, then I think that's it's hit the nail on the head and then you think you made the right choice. The other thing too actually

though, is I quite like Rob's inclusion of the HSC there because I think we're all quite sad that we can't.

Even if, you know, we had the chance to complain a lot too, that we can't look at current locally made cars and sort of look at it with a bit of pride. That's gone, which I think is

quite sad because that was there for such a long time.

And even there again, we poke fun at the other person's team and you know that ours is better than theirs is that that was really good. Whereas we haven't got that

anymore and that's quite sad. It is sad.

I mean, like Ford Australia, you know, the, the Falcon, the Falcon, you know, like you guys don't like Falcons and always have and always will. But like the, you know, they

didn't have, they had zero budget to for the FGX and especially for the Sprint. Like they put all they had with

their peanuts into that, into that car.

And look, it was a good car, but it wasn't, it wasn't a great car, you know, and it felt like they went out with a, with more of a whimper than than than HSVHSV went out swinging.

Like they were like, they're like, yeah, we well, we're going, but we're going to go, we're going to go hard as, as, as we go out, you know, and, and they, they went GDSRW 1, you know, it was faster around a racetrack than innocent GTR.

You know, that that's, that's ridiculous in a four door sedan.

So that for me is just like, you know, it's so sad that we don't have that. And these cars like they weren't

expensive. Well, I mean, they were

expensive, but they, they're pricey, but they weren't German, you know, expensive money. Like they were accessible, you

know, like extra 6 turbos, 45 grand.

You know what? What was yours?

Rob 42,000. On the road. 42 on the road for

a 50th anniversary turbo brand new, you know, where can you, where could you have got that performance anywhere in the world for that, for that money? You you just couldn't.

And you know, a lot of the badge knobs are they always looked down on on the Australian stuff. But at the end of the day, you

know, they offered a lot for not much money.

And, you know, it's, it's a shame that, that it ended the way it did. The old expression that you

don't appreciate something until it's gone.

It's gone. Yeah, Americans love them too.

They do good choices, gentlemen. I think that's yeah, it's kind

of a sad note to end that on, but I think, yeah, I think it's an important, it's an important thing to be said.

But yeah, we did some good cars. And I think all the cars we've

named over the last few weeks in terms of in terms of the 70s to to now, I think all of them are great choices with people And people look back on those cars quite fondly.

And, you know, a lot of them are like a jazz or a, you know, or a chord Euro. They weren't, they weren't a

special car inverter Commons, like a, you know, a special car.

But they were, you know, a good car and they and they, they gave people reliability and they gave people, you know, all what you needed to, to, to be, to be successful.

Yeah. It's, it's just interesting to

see, to see the car landscape now where where in, in let's say five years time in 20, in 20, Was it 2030?

We'll be saying, oh, guys, pick your best cars from the twenty 20s and it'll be like maybe a maybe a a ABYD, you know, Shark 6 or a but but seriously, you know, like it's it's it's going to I think, you know, it's going to be hard to to kind of get there. I think the only cut out in the

interesting. For me.

It was the FL 5, especially on the driving one.
