The Haas F1 car launch sparked a lively discussion about the team's new livery and the effectiveness of car launches in general. Matt and Tommy critique the lengthy corporate speeches that often accompany these events, preferring a more straightforward approach. They express appreciation for Haas's fresh design, highlighting the increased use of white and the overall clean look. The conversation also touches on the implications of Haas's partnership with Toyota Gazoo Racing, noting that while it may not drastically change performance, it signals a positive direction for the team's future.
For everyone who's tired of corporate speeches and two-hour events, rejoice: Haas released their new car in a snazzy, one-minute video! And, turns out, it looks great!

with Matt and Tommy. Second car launch. Well, third technically, I guess, because we had two
Red Bull and V-Carb. And we now have Haas. And first and foremost, Tommy, I've got to say,
could they have shortened it? I think they could have. It was far too long.
Yeah, hanging around waiting. They said 1pm and they launched it at 1pm. And they gave us
a 1 minute 13 video. And then we got on with our days. Absolutely ridiculous.
It's a proper for all the people that are in the YouTube comments all the time for every car
launch going, just show the car. That's all we care about. They're fine. Fine. Here you
go. Have the car straight away. Done. In the comments, they've got show us some corporate
speech. Yeah, I really want to hear from the Gazoo Racing CEO please.
Okay, so the delivery has been revealed, of course. And look, let's get straight into what we
think of it. Of course, there's no car launch to talk about. So we'll talk about the car
immediately. And for me, it is very lovely indeed. That is a really nice looking car.
I love the fact that there's more white on it. Of course, there's the TGR on the top,
which I think it looks pretty funky. Well, it kind of looks like a chi with the way in which,
if you look at the side, it kind of looks like the air box. Oh, yeah, see what you mean.
So maybe they're doing something there. But either way, it looks awesome. I love that
the red pops really nicely as well against the white. And it's amazing what cars and how
good they can look when they have to paint the car more than 55%. And it can't all be
carbon like I remember a couple of years ago. I in particular was not very happy. I think
I've to be fair, a lot of people were not very happy about the fact we were just constantly
seeing carbon cars. This one is a very clean, good looking livery. It is. I think it also
says how much we just love a livery change. I think they're always more exciting when they
change. You know, Red Bull is the prime example of like same livery for 10 years,
there's something a little bit different. I was already, I was kind of like preparing
this for Haas and the chat to be kind of, Haas have had very safe liveries in the past.
And you could argue this one is quite safe. They're kind of like,
they're smart. They've never had like a real banger, but they look like slick a lot of the time.
And this one does look very, very slick. I like the fact that they put more white on it.
I would have been cool to maybe see something more crazy. I was going to say,
I had kind of had expectations from the Toyota side of things, but now I'm kind of learning as we,
we're kind of going on that Toyota and Gazoo Racing have kind of split now, which is very
unusual because they've got the Toyota Gazoo Racing title sponsor, but now it's just Gazoo
Racing and it says just Gazoo Racing on the car. So very weird kind of situation there.
But I think it's a very clean looking car and just having a little tweak is kind of what we
like. Isn't it from livery season where you still got your brand identity that they always go for
the black, red and white, but it's a cool, cool and refreshing change.
Yeah. So the separations happened recently, but then they are also still going to run TGR
as the brand name, the title, the sponsor thing. So whatever's going on there, who knows, but
either or it has created a lovely looking livery. Let's go into a question from Citrus F1.
Do we prefer teams just dropping renders or do we still need corporate events?
I get it for Ford, but for example, does Alpine need one? All right, didn't realize we were talking
about Alpine in a Haas car launch. Do we prefer it? I will always prefer a car launch,
mainly usually unless they're two hours long and we never see the car until that point.
But if I was to pick one or the other, yeah, a half an hour car launch,
mwah, absolutely beautiful. That's what we love to see. Give me a bit of corporate chat,
but then stop it and then show me the car. Now that's kind of, for me, the best sort of,
it's the warming up, isn't it? You're warming up to seeing it and you can kind of see the
collective within the live stream and to be fair, I was going to say all the lovely
comments that usually show the car. So maybe ignore, but it's a community. We all come
together. We see loads of people watching along. And for me, that's my favorite.
The render stuff, it's a video, right? So we're not at the bottom of the pile. If it was just a
picture, then that is, that's poor, right? They've made a video, they've made some kind of effort.
It's still, I am slightly surprised in some ways with it being 2026, brand new regulations,
huge overhaul that perhaps teams like Haas might have thought, let's do a little car launch.
Why not? But these teams don't want to waste money on things like that. And they'd
rather just make a render, which I can also understand. So I am forgiving of Haas because
the car looks really good. So there you go. Indeed. Yeah, they have a mix, don't they?
Some, I think sometimes a lot of teams, they maybe mix it up. It depends how much they want
to spend on a car launch. Of course, the big buck teams, you know, Red Bull and Ford,
they're going to want to announce their new partnership, things like that. Whereas Haas will
probably, you know, want to save money and think, well, you know, what's the point when
realistically, you are just revealing the car. And, you know, we've got the same driver lineup.
Most of it's kind of the same, like what are we really going to gain from spending loads
in a car launch that money could go better elsewhere? So that's probably there.
They're thinking now. So yeah, they've mixed it up. We've seen a kind of more traditional
long car launch where we've been sat there in the comments going, oh my God,
it's 40 minutes. Where's the car that they're kind of, you know, showing an engine in VR and stuff
and all this kind of stuff. And then Haas just going, here you go. Here's the images or a video,
as it was, like a minute prepared video, if you like. And as for Alpine, who knows. But
all I remember is Alpine, they, when they did a car launch, they're one of the worst ones,
because they get every single person on the board to come and have a chat before they even
remember that they have a car. We love, we love a 50 minute chat with the head of BWT talking about
water solutions or something. Say goodbye, Tommy. I really do. Next question from Jeloff21.
How was Tommy spot on in the podcast calling Haas just randomly dropping renders and skip the
corporate events and filler? Because I'm a time traveler. No, it's because they always do it
and they have always, I was actually looking back to try and find if Haas have ever done a
car launch. And I think even when they first launched, they just launched pictures. And they've
always been that team that do it. So obviously, you know, there's been talk hasn't there in the
past about, does Gene Haas put enough money into this project? And does he care enough? And
does he need to sort of, is it a waste for him to kind of have this team, but not really like
go all in on it and have big ambitions and things. And with the car launch, yeah, they always just
drop a video, a short video or a picture. A lot of the time it is a picture. And you know,
previously has gone by, they used to be that team that particularly when we had a regulation
change, they'd be like the first one to drop an image. And the kind of press that they got
was normally the fact that it was like, Oh, this is what the new cars will kind of look
like. And that's kind of what they were going for. Or the fact that it's a slightly questionable
political statement in 2021, which was obviously the controversial one. So yeah, Haas have always
been first to like drop their their images and videos. First, this time, second or third,
if you if you want to call it third place behind the two Red Bull teams.
And next question from P1Patreon member Lumixion, how much of an impact will Toyota,
Gazoo Racing in brackets have with Haas? Well, as we said, the Toyota Gazoo Racing
separation has happened recently. But in terms of Toyota being involved, it's a technical
partnership. So it's not going to be mass, it's not going to be a massive overhaul,
in my opinion. Haas still rely on Ferrari for most of their stuff. So Ferrari are usually
the ones to be able to make the biggest impact to Haas' performance, especially with the engine
and this year with the new regulations, massive engine formula. So for Toyota, I'm sure it's
helpful because of course there is there is they're going to be able to lean on Toyota
engineers occasionally and things like that. But realistically, I think it looks good for Haas
Haas' longevity moving forward now to be partnering with with with with such a
big brand like Toyota that that suggests that they're not going anywhere anytime soon.
So for that side of things, I think it's good, but I'm not expecting Haas to be
world champions at the end of this year. No, it was it was a good deal and something quite
exciting that that they were kind of having that that Toyota Gazoo Racing partnership.
I'm now less in sort of like, not enthused by it, but but obviously like,
Gazoo Racing have that that racing pedigree. But the fact that the Toyota name is kind
of being disassociated a bit and and less so and that they've kind of split there.
I think a lot of people when this was announced, not that long ago that it was going to be
Toyota Gazoo Racing has F1 team, you kind of thought, okay, I would not be surprised in
three years, maybe even two or one that this would become Toyota F1 team.
But that's obviously seeming maybe less likely now. But they've got, you know,
they've been with Haas for a while now. This is not new, it's just the the naming rights,
if you like, of the team. And you've got to say that Haas have improved a lot, you know,
they've had really good results, particularly under Kamatsu, you know, with the new team Prince
Boy did an amazing job. The results have come in. And they've been a lot stronger
performing because, you know, they were absolutely woeful at one point, they were,
you know, far and away, the team at the bottom, the absolute joke of the team,
people were saying, you know, why you're even bothering. And, you know, they're
delivering a lot better. So I think they can be positive about the partnership.
I think actually the turning point was when I jokingly said that this would be,
that they would be 10th in the constructors when they launched a few years ago and then
their performance turned around. Literally, really sorry about that, Haas,
but also not sorry, because clearly you've turned it around and done a great job.
