We're late. We're late for a very important date. We've missed another week. We did indeed.

Due to work commitments, illness, partial work commitments, partial life being a shit show

generally. So apologies. Be grateful. It's free. It is. So we're back for this one and while we

should have probably done something a little bit to celebrate our 150th episode. We done good in

the hundred, didn't we? We did. We did. We had a proper party and cake and everything. I'm quite

disappointed we don't have cake this time. I'm disappointed we don't have cake any time. In

general. Yep. On a day where there's no cake. That's a bad day. It is. So we're back to talk

about some stuff, some vaguely correlated stuff and... Big news to be fair. A few bits of news

and so we'll crack on. So Connor. You sound tiredly. I am tired and I have the cold.

Oh, she's dosed. Probably not the person who should be hosting us, but there we go.

Wow. We'll have a ton of boost here and I'm cranking it up to 10 or as Spanel Top would say.

I have been to Germany with work. So that's why when I came home, I was home at midnight

last Friday and I was just like, no, if I have to record this weekend, I'd kill myself. I just

messed you guys and I was like, you can do it. I am burned out. I just can't hack it.

Interesting trip. Got to see some nice domestic German cars. I got into the taxi to go to the hotel

and an old Russian man who didn't speak very much English was determined to get me in the

front of the taxi, then give me little sweets and I was like, well, up and going out and going

out nicely. I've got sweets here. And then after all those efforts to get me into the front of

the taxi, he's calculating what way he's going to kill you. I'm pretty sure he's like the sweets

haven't killed him. Is your middle name Dexter? So I've seen what I've seen on the roads. I've seen

a Mark II on the roads out and about just at night as a daily driver. A Mark III and a half cab,

a couple of Mark IVs. Mainland Europe gets a lot more of the older stuff still kicking about because

probably there was more of it being domestic, but also... And it's more impressive in Germany

because the TV, you know, how strict it is? Yes, for their inspections to keep them on the road.

And funny, I was talking. So part of my job involves testing and I was testing in Tuve's

test house, which is TUV. Should you know when you get your coilovers and it says like...

TUV approach. That's the guys that test them. I was at their test house. So they were doing

stuff for us, but also when I was there. So what does TUV stand for? Traditionally,

you need a voice. Oh, it doesn't, that's gone down. I don't actually know what it stands for in

German. Technical something? Probably. I love technical. But talking to those guys and telling

them what we do with cars versus what they do with cars, they couldn't get over the freedom that we

have to modify stuff. Because if they do anything at all, it has to be tested. So it was telling me

there was a company, he says it's quite difficult for small startups to make

products and sell them because their ring has to be tested. Very costly. Yes. So there was a crowd

that brought in a replacement chassis for a Land Rover. Built to the exact same specs,

galvanized, blah, blah, blah, just built on replacement. It has to be certified. So they

do all these like twist tests and deflections and stuff. And if it doesn't perform to within a

millimeter of factory, then it fails and you have to start again. And it's just, it's crazy.

Yeah. And they couldn't get, I was talking about. And the joke is if you took 10 factory,

once they probably wouldn't all deform in the same way or act in the same way.

Especially from something from the 70s. Yeah. So chatting with those guys, I was telling them

like what I've done to the mark two with like R32 bricks, make up my own rear brick hit. And they

were just like, I may as well just told them I killed a child. You know, it was just like his

eyes were wide open. And it's like, this is really mad. But yeah, it was impressive. And then

it was funny. So they test all different aspects of cars and aftermarket parts, new AM parts.

And I was walking in one morning and there was two AMG seats sitting out the front.

So these were like expensive looking front seats. They weren't like AMG line. They were like proper

high bolster pinned on AMG BADs, but also had the old AMG round crest. Like the, it's very,

almost like the Alfa Romeo BADs, like very messy looking like embossed into the headrest.

Like these sort of, I was like, this is my high end car. And he was like, oh yeah,

this is going in the skip. We're going to set the airbags off. Do you want to watch? And I was

like, yeah, please don't. So the pull the badges off, slash the leather with a knife, set the airbags

off and fucking into the skip. And I was like, good retrim would sort them out. And I was like,

wonder could I get them home? I reckon I would be sacked out of there in the first week pulling

stuff out of Ben Hogan. Oh, another set of car was missing. Where could they be going?

And that's where you test them. So it's very interesting. But yeah, it was, it was interesting

insight to that. So that's where I have been. Do you want to know what TV stands for? Go for it.

Technischer über Vakundseer, which translates to Technical Inspection Association.

Oh, there we go. So you have a TV and a V in there. And the U has the V dots over it. Yes.

My German isn't very good. Australia and Germany.

Australia. Certified to inspect and test products, technologies and vehicles ensure

safety, quality and compliance with the regulations. It doesn't say anything about

and they do it across all industries. You know, it's, it is interesting.

What's the size of a place? A big place. A subsidized canteen as well, boy.

Oh, like how's the parliament or storming? Oh, and like,

full on like, really good food as well fed. Proper job. Got home. And then last weekend,

last Sunday through the TT and the ramp, finally, to get a look at what was happening.

And still remember, I said I'd ruled out the bushes because it wasn't doing the dry.

And when I looked at them the last time, they were fine. Yeah.

When I put it up again, I looked at the bushes and I was like,

they're not broken up, but they look funny. They're all over the one side. It turned out,

the bushes are the fault. So do the metal sleeve that runs through the center of them.

It has delaminated from that and they're just moving along the sleeve. So my back wheels have

basically been like toe in and out like rear wheel steer. So that's why it's fun.

Scrubbed the two back tires off as well, which is fantastic. So thankfully we're getting to it.

Lee's Christmas present come in quite handy. Yes, my bushes have been stolen.

So the bushes for the R32 are the exact same for the TT.

I mean, they've been liberated for the cause.

So I went on, ordered replacement ones of those. Stephanie and I had them banged in and what,

two hours. But the problem is the body brake lines, the ones that come down the car,

go to those brackets and you have to take them off and being 25 years old, they just disintegrated.

So then I had to put two brake lines on, which then meant the driver's side rear runs out over

the top of the tank, which to do that, then you have to drop the exhaust, prop shaft, tank and

subframe. Delightful. Delightful. And I was like, I will break this car before I do that.

So I managed to get the line fished out over the top, clip it into the clips to the other side,

and I was like, that'll do me. It's secured, but the tank straps, it can't come down

and got them up. The only problem is now you can't get the fucker bled. So I think this happened

in the Bora before. I think there's error in the ABS block. So if I come, I have a calm there,

just need the time to do it. So cycle the ABS system and I like vibrates there out of it. It's

odd sounding thing. Witchcraft. Yes. It takes a fucking age to do as well, but thankfully we're

getting there with it. So that's nice. What else? Oh, I managed to get breakfast out of my eye as

well when I was doing that. So that was fun. Oh, that's a real treat. Oh, oh, yeah. That

definitely doesn't stink for days. Funny, I had an incident during the week and I'm still

numbing the fingers. I was up the farm, was pulling the saddle wheels out to put up for sale,

then I had a twin spoke or twin cycle. And I was taking a picture of the farm

and the tires were a wee bit dirty. So I thought I'd give them a wipe, but I'd no tire shine or

anything. But then I found a ton of tire shine, but I had no wee cap on it for spraying it.

Okay. So I just thought, right. Oh, no, you don't have your nails.

One of my fingers went white. They're still tingling. You'll probably find that it's not

probably the product, the tire shine product, but the actual aerosol. So you'll have like

frozen damage to your nerves on it. Yeah. And you're like, like frost burning nearly?

I thought I've given myself frostbite here. They're starting to come around, but flip me.

Aye, that'd not be nice. That'll be horrible feeling. There was like a burning feeling

on it yesterday, but it's starting to come. Yes. Aye. Yeah, that's exactly what it'd be like.

So don't lose your caps. I still haven't. I was supposed to be working on Stefan's

car as well. Yeah, but I haven't good near with that. So it's pretty much.

Yeah, I was supposed to be working on my car, but somebody else has been on the lift.

And what else? Yeah, that's pretty much all with me. What would you guys?

Well, terrible weather and all flutton galore. The past two weeks or three weeks, I have just

the style of Chef Pan and I'm on last three weeks. It's just been very little breaks and days

off and stuff like that. Now I'm coming in the period of the Chef pattern where I will get time

off. Yes. But even when I was off, it was just passion, measurable. What could you do?

All right. Weather worn after a weather worn. So done very little. I think I talked about fitting

the rear brace and the club sport. Yes. I don't think everything else done.

You couldn't even get at the cars out and enjoy them because of the weather.

Yeah, as fair as I got the club sport out on one of the dry mornings there Thursday or Friday,

I'm giving a proper full clean and I have it in the shed. And until it starts to brighten up,

I think it'll stay there for a month or two. When you've went to that after a clean knit,

you don't really want to. Like if it are there, if I want to go out and have a blast.

But the roads are in shade at the moment. I was telling you about a car being put on to.

Yes. So it was a 928 I think it is. 928.

989. If you ever watched Top Gear and Clarkson's talking about the time his dad was down and he

went illegal speeds along the motorway. Yes. It was this car that my brother put it on to

through a friend of a friend. And so there's proper V8 with Porsche turbo wheels on it.

Abandoned for 20 years. So I went this afternoon after the cars and coffee look at it.

And I'd previously been told by my brother who had looked at it for me and said,

I think that'll be a few hundred pounds. Because what had happened is the man's house,

who is an organ, the wife had basically said, get that out of the garage. I want the garage back.

Okay. So she had pulled it out a year or two ago.

And now she wants the yard cleared. And he's like, do whatever you want with it.

I thought happy days. I'll buy that. I'll have a look at it and see what way it's fixed.

Might put it in the shed or might just break it because there is valiant.

And again, in my head, I thought a few hundred pounds going to lift us.

And your man just popped my bubble this afternoon.

Do you ever say the wife was happy? She was happy with that.

And he was like, no, this. Yeah.

So he's like, yeah, I'll sell it, but I'll make it hard to sell.

Yeah. And I just thought, here, good luck to you, man.

What's the point?

Marketplace is going to be a hell of a ride for you.

Oh, fuck that. But better put them up for 10 grand to weed out the arseholes.

Caught my insurance renewal for the superb.

So that was nice, because it came down.

Last year, I paid 700 on 70 quid, I think.

What happened to getting older on the insurance?

Business miles, I don't mind.

If you're going somewhere, get paid for it, sort of thing.

Business miles, I have found ramps insurance up.

I remember, it was years ago, but Aaron Craney, who listens to this.

Do you remember Craney from years ago?

We used to run around with him.

And he had a Mark V GTI, a black one on hydraulics, if you remember.

And he tried to put business miles on it, but it wasn't big miles on it.

They just wanted like a couple of thousand or whatever.

And I think the insurance went clean through the roof and it was like,

nah, I can't do this.

Yeah.

It's weird.

So they'll take a car with it?

Possibly, I or the age or what, but I know your car will probably,

or your insurance will probably have half the price if it will huddle up business on it.

Yeah, because what is it?

A nine-year-old diesel?

So it came down to like 560 or something this year.

Doesn't happen too often.

Remember the C5 or S6 I had?

It was a trade-in on the Toyota Honda Garage,

Belfast Mark Rilleford sort of made it with.

And I says, Mark, get me 10 months here to phone the insurance company,

just this isn't telephone numbers.

You're probably thinking, I'll never get the insurance.

So I just said, right, I'm thinking of changing this car.

And my current insurance was 420 or something.

It went all over a pound, and I nearly laughed down the phone and went,

right, can you change that over now, please?

I knew it.

And just walked down and said, there's money.

You could have been early to mid-30s then too.

Long time ago.

Well, I think it's partially, I had a claim on my insurance

when our house was broken into and my car keys got stolen.

So it was a no fault claim, blah, blah, blah.

And they say that doesn't affect your insurance, but it absolutely does.

I think it does.

But that was five years ago in December.

And so it's now over five years.

So the loading has downloaded?

It does affect your insurance because it infected my insurance

because you were on with the Mark II at one point.

And they actually, they rang me back and they go,

you've acclaimed me, haven't told us about it.

And I was like, I can tell you now, I don't.

I absolutely do not, sir.

And they're like, oh, we'll do, and blah, blah, blah.

And then it turned out to be Lee.

And I was like, for fuck's sake.

Fuck, I'd never claim off them again, the hers.

That's it.

You think you're doing the right thing, like, and no.

So.

But I've decided I'm keeping the superb for another wee while.

So I'm sort of putting off doing a bit of work to it because.

You're going to sell it.

I was going to sell it, but no, I'm not.

So I'll do some work to tidy it up, put the new bonnet on it

after how long, three or four months,

it's been sitting in the garage and hopefully.

Do you know you're doing me for another wee bit.

So I'm glad.

I'm glad because I've said all along,

I don't particularly want to change the car.

It gets long runs, you know, the DPF,

like you drop that car in to get with Paul to do something.

And he was like, I'll look at the DPF.

It's bound and he done as well to get it cleaned.

And when he took it off, it didn't need cleaned.

About like 160,000 miles or something stupid.

like the regulars haven't even entered yet because they know not to.

But yeah, it's been interesting to see what's coming out.

It's nice to be inside and know what cars are riding about in the scene as well.

And a little taster of that before we move on to news news was we had a cars and coffee today.

Today is the 31st of January.

And we had a charity cars and coffee at Black Lane Performance in Moira in the air ambulance.

And victim zone success is probably the word.

Yes, it was very busy.

It's, it was too busy for that site.

But very well done.

And thank you to everybody that donated with a final total.

I think it's 1350, but air ambulance has got the money now.

So they can just make sure I can count and verify that.

So that's good.

No, good, good way to get some of the cars and car guys out.

Just stand and chat and get caught up again and get ready for the show season.

Well, that's good.

And like we were talking to one of the guys involved with their ambulance and like it shocked me when

they were saying it was like, it's eight grand a day, like minimum to run that.

Yeah.

And it's a charity, you know, and you're like, well, it's a charity like anybody could use

because you have a road accident, bike accident, dining at all.

And I think he said it's nearly up every day.

Yes.

He says it goes out on average a bit twice a day.

So there's always something happening.

Like it's not going out for good reasons.

Yeah.

If it's a slow day, they'll just maintenance, you know, do a flight as well.

Like, but very worthwhile charity.

And we'll have another cars and gov in March, I think it's planned for.

I had never seen potholes like it.

So when I was in Germany and our group chat, there was,

there was talk of a pothole going out of Bambridge.

And someone took a photograph and there was what eight cars lined up on the side of the road.

They had.

With busted wheels.

Busted wheels from this one pothole.

I was, they're fucking brittle.

Well, there was news thing came up on my Facebook there the other day of a funeral car

going to Rosalon.

Which is the cemetery?

The crematorium in Belfast.

A funeral director from Arma.

And they, I was going to say the wedding, not the wedding car.

The bereaved.

The family limo, the funeral car,

head of pothole and busted two towers on the one side with the bereaved family.

In the car.

Waiting to go on the way to the crematorium.

Which is a time slot.

So that was horrible.

Aye, the roads are so, so bad too.

And there's no way they're getting fixed because

storming is a clown show.

And they have the budget for it.

The biggest joke this week was the finance minister or

as the finance minister who's overseeing the reform of the rates.

Basically set out this new scheme where all the buildings were reevaluated

and some bars and hotels in particular got horrific increases

like we're talking 60, 70% increase in rates.

In a time where, well.

The race problem.

Now Gallagorm is a big business.

I think they take into account the revenue too.

But somebody could correct me on that.

Gallagorm's rates bill was projected to go up from 400,000 to 1.3 million.

Just the rates?

Yeah.

So yeah, that's.

And there was a hotel open by Castle or somewhere.

And it was going up 300,000.

A local, local Domain, Cumber.

It's a restaurant in Lisbon.

It was go up to 64,000.

So that's literally just a tax to open.

Yeah.

And that's what they have to find before they do anything else.

Yet they're also providing employment to people who pay tax.

That's why I don't understand like surely that should be linked in some way.

I'm sure it's the same way as pay by E.

You know, you tax the people that are working.

If you take more money off and they can't spend it,

the generated production productivity and the economy.

No, you're doing is getting it off people that are working to.

It's a shit show.

And funny, I was talking with Gab in a black line today,

a bit like different business and stuff.

And he was saying a bit like he was explaining like the rates that he has.

And never mind even your wage bill and stuff like that.

But like the rates just to open.

It's fucking nuts.

Like, and you can see why a lot of businesses are struggling or don't do well, you know,

and just every couple of days on Belfast Live or RS News or Newsletter,

such and such a cafe shop now, such and such a restaurant.

People have been business 20 years and just I've had enough.

Why am I buying mail?

Well, no.

Well, Joe here is not getting any easier for people with new driving license,

but it are about to get through driving.

Yes.

Yeah.

You guys seen this?

Yeah.

So let's talk about what's doing the rounds all over social media

is the new licensing reforms in Northern Ireland anyway,

but potentially the rest of the UK.

Yes, we're the trial monkeys.

Yeah, I heard that we were the trial monkeys

and they were going to roll it out elsewhere.

Well, sure.

Northern Ireland was the trial for our plates.

And then they just never took them away, but never, never instated them.

They didn't like it, but they just kept it.

So the UK governments actively looking at tackling how new drivers are licensed,

mainly to tackle the fact that young and newly qualified drivers

are massively overrepresented in serious crashes.

I would like to see him figure.

So would I, to be honest,

but the question is are the letting people on the road too quickly with not enough

experience or lessons, basically.

And as always, Northern Ireland is the test bed.

That's the big one.

But the big thing people are missing is like a lot of people don't realize this.

And you guys have just confirmed it is Northern Ireland have already confirmed

that they're doing it.

Northern Ireland are they've signed up and went, yep, we're doing this.

And it's coming in here from October 26th, where the rest of the UK

are going to see what happens and then decide whether they do it or not.

Go from there.

I wonder how long it'll be a trial for.

It hasn't even said that.

Yeah.

It's the technicalities of it.

As far as I can understand, you can't go for your test for the first six months.

Yes.

You have to basically get experience and do a logbook or something.

Do a logbook with your lessons and say what you've done and how you've done it.

And then once you pass like the six month mark, you can start

applying for your test, basically.

Once you get the test for the first two years, you're classified as a restricted driver,

which we already are for one year here.

The rest of the UK aren't, but that means the rest of the UK going to get our plates.

Finally, the one thing it did notice was, so here, if you're on our plates,

you're restricted to 45 miles per hour everywhere, including on the motorway,

which is insane.

That's going away.

So you will still be on our plates, but they're doing away with the restriction of 45 miles

per hour, which is good.

The other thing they'll be doing is things.

They'll have passenger limits to the amount of people you can have in the car.

And you can, and especially at nighttime, there'll be restrictions on times you can drive

and how many people you can have in the car at certain times throughout the day.

I agree with that because the amount of crashes you hear about are A, at nighttime,

and involve multiple people in the car.

And that's the thing.

And that's, they've done the research, you know, to a certain extent you can see from that.

I kind of, I understand because, and we said all along,

speeding, you know, speeding is the one they always go after.

And we said it's not a driver education.

So now they actually are trying to do something with driver education.

I'm not sure they've got it right, but I do think it's the right area to be focusing on.

Well, that's the real question is, is this about safety or is it to be seen to be doing

something? Or are they jumping in two foot tackle and going, we're going to do this and

haven't thought about it, which is quite normally the government's way of doing anything.

Or are they properly tackling this? Because

in my opinion, they're taking the easy route and getting them

at the early stages of your driving career and saying young people this and young people that.

Because realistically, as we've talked about before, retesting older drivers

is very unpopular because that's your voting base.

So they're not going to bring that in. Cracking down on mobile phone use and other things like

that and distractions is quite hard to do because you can't be everywhere at all times

as much as the government want to be. I'm surprised they didn't make black boxes compulsory.

So am I. But like that's that insurance? They nearly made that compulsory anyway.

For young people. The government didn't have to do that.

They didn't have to. It kind of happened by the insurance going, well,

you can either have a black box and have still an expensive but more reasonable price for your

insurance or you can pay us five grand. Well, here's the thing. Does this mean the black box

then this wouldn't be an issue. Yeah. And the other thing is we've just talked about this.

Is it our plate drivers that are having these crisis or the drivers after the

after our plates that just go mental? Well, the actual test itself is bullshit because

you do your test low speeds and at no point during your lessons or your test have you ever been on

the motorway. So you don't know how to merge onto the motorway and merge back off at first start.

You don't know how to drive. So suddenly you're told, oh, no, you can't go onto the motorway.

And then as soon as you get your test, you go, I know you have no experiences, but

good luck on it under the motorway. Go for it. Some of the busiest roads ever seen.

I'm as born in Christmas Eve. I got my license when I was 15, my provisional. I was on the road

the day I turned 16 legally because it was definitely not long before that. Yeah. And

17, I was like, I couldn't wait to do my fucking first driving lesson. I was doing my bike in my

car at the same time. The problem was Christmas Eve, nobody's gonna do a driving lesson Christmas

Eve, so I do it to the new year. But my dad was adamant that I got an instructor,

my instructor took me out at night to do night lessons as well just to get used to it. Cause

he was like, there's no point in passing your test. And then suddenly you're driving the night

and it's quite literally a whole new world and certain Aladdin theme. But like,

that's the thing. Like the other thing I have down here is like, and we talked about this

two fucking minutes ago is fix a road design and infrastructure, but it's too expensive to do it.

So they're trying to target.

Should people have them crashing now because it's day of the road?

coming at you. What's coming at you and trying to hold out closer. And then people are probably

doing the same on the other side coming towards you closer to the middle line to try and keep

away from potholes because I don't want to break away. Like I've experienced this

that sort of rule had with Jack and Rachel when they passed her test is only have one

passenger for the first few weeks because you need to get familiar with your environment

on that too. And we'll sort of didn't let them go at night time in the winter when Rachel, she

she had her test in the winter. Different if you're going out with them and you can help them

whatever. But yeah, it is it's odd. But yeah, there's a lot to be talked about. And there's a lot

to see. I have no doubt in my mind they will fuck this up in some way. To me, that's that sounds,

yeah, I can understand why they're doing it. But the first thing comes to mind, that sounds

like a lot admin admin and more cost. Yeah. Oh, yeah. And who's going to get passed on the cost?

will go, you know, we have more to do here. We have more to do here. You know, we have to do these

logbook entries. So it's sort of reminds me of that scheme. Rachel Rees brought out about the

actually been going to implement it. Oh, no, we're going to do this. But how are you going to do it?

Oh, you'll log your mileage in MOT. Cars don't get MOT for the first four years.

consultation going through for reduced speed limits in Northern Ireland.

something fell off my car here, something. And I sort of pulled up for the next satellite to see

what was wrong, put the window down. And a moment or mid sixties, turn right went you maniac. And

then our next words that came out of her mouth, you should know better at your age.

And I was going, what exactly did I do wrong there? I was moving, you were stopped. I moved in

the lane using indicators. Oh, you're driving like a maniac. Maybe in your eyes, but I wasn't.

And I just drove off. And to be honest with you, the statement, you should know better at your age

absolutely stabbed me in the heart. My dad, my dad has something with an owl doll.

I can't remember what happened. There was something happened.

And she was slobbering on him. She's been real bitch. And he said to her, he says,

do you know what your problem actually is? And he's wanting to go, you're an ugly owl bastard.

They're bringing back the soapbox race to Belmont or De Belfast in 2026 at the Stormont estate.

That must be well over 10 years. It was last round. And they've done the ice one as well.

That's right. So yeah, it's 17th of May, Sunday the 17th. It'll see 40 teams go head to head.

Funny, funny stuff to watch. I'll just go through actually a very good how to play guide.

Are they doing it at Stormont down the hill? Yeah. Oh, that'll be good.

So there's no nine out applications process. So that sounds very familiar.

And you can upload photos or sketches. And then step three is a team selection.

And then you go and build your car. Sounds almost like dub shit. Only step four is usually before

step three. But do you think Red Bull have been looking at our applications and went,

those guys know what they're at. I love that soapbox. They'll be watching it on TV because

the reckons people get. I don't know how more people aren't injured. They do the flip tag,

They all cool events. The cliff diving, they don't let down the cliff somewhere there.

Actually, Paul Scott from Cumber, he's health and safety advisor. He helps us out with dub shit.

A man in London called Kevin Rees was arrested by counter terrorist police after what was

described as a low sophistication of improvised explosive device.

Damaged a U.S. camera in London in December 23. Skim read the story, but didn't look into it.

So basically he made a homemade bomb from black powder. What do you call

He's a Maserati V8 on it now on 3D printed ITBs or adapted ITBs, full cage.

He's putting a factory white body onto it. So like the turbo arches all welded on and replaced the

roof skin with a carbon roof. So it's like, it's going to be a really nice car.

we've been different from him. Just doing a chassis stuff. So it's pretty good.
