There's a professional. Radio that's front wheel drive
so. Have you got anyone you want to
thank? Just myself and now I do the
after hours, gentlemen. What would you go for?
They see us in there, OK, And because it's not a super duck, it's not automatic. Perfection comes in the form of
two letters. A&U.
Long live my Ltd. Welcome to Car Talk.
It's Susan here. Maddie J online with Scotty O
Johnson, Rob Zedai and Mr Chad. How are you guys?
Awesome. Very good.
Doing pretty good. Thank you very much.
Good to see you guys, hopefully you're doing well.
Let's get on with some personal updates, see how you guys are going. Been a busy week Scotty for you.
Finishing up with school, then off to Japan next Friday.
Yeah, busy, busy. Exciting.
So start packing. I've got my international
driver's licence. And Oh yeah, you did.
If there's any other bits and pieces, I think I think we're all good. Got some extra?
Bought some extra underwear and socks so.
It's a necessities, mate, it's a necessity.
It is, it is. So I've got that ready to go.
Yeah, I'm just getting ready to finish off this term.
So are you on the early flight or are you on a later flight on next Friday? Late flight leaves at like 11 at
night. Oh, OK, so you're gonna fly
overnight? Yep.
Yeah, nice, nice. It's it's only 10 hours.
It's not super duper long, but it's yeah you'll if you're scoring overnight, you'll you should be able to get a few hours of ZS. Yeah, I'm sure it will.
Rob, how you doing man? Your son is bloody first class
in Dubai right now. Yeah, First class 1st, the 777
gourmet meals, a whole lot living off my frequent flyer points doing well. I'll tell you, here I am at, you
know, almost 60 years old, never flown first class of business.
And here he is flying business class, 1st class, you know, from Europe back to Australia. He's he's living the dream.
He's he's living the body dream Here here are US guys flying pleb class to to everything and he's first class gourmet meals, business class. I mean business class in every
poverty pack for him, but he wouldn't be able to go back.
I can tell you one thing I've asked him.
He's been driving a lot through Europe, in Switzerland, in Greece and whatnot. It's actually cheaper to hire a
car over there and drive to a destination than to catch a train or get an Uber. Oh, really?
Cars in Greece In Greece in particular, the Ubers dear it in hiring a little Smart car or something.
Well, that's because Greece has got its own issues.
That'll work. Yes, yes, he's been, he's been
living it. So I, I, I think he's going to
hire a car in Dubai and drive to Abu Dhabi, go to Ferrari World and all that sort of stuff and so be pretty good I would say.
Absolutely living, living the opposite.
Is he there for work, Rob? No, no, just a hot six week
holiday. He's last week, so he's on his
way home. Yeah.
Very good. That'd be nice, wouldn't it,
Chad? Oh yeah, yeah, that would be
honest. I think he's going to be pretty
broke when he gets back though. It's not cheap going overseas on
holidays. No, no, it's, it's definitely
not. Definitely not.
I know about you, Scotty, about going to Japan.
You're saying? I'm not sure what you've
budgeted for, but I'm sure you're going to spend at least 10 grand over there. Oh yeah.
Once I buy everything, I think what came in handy is when it came to our engagement party, a lot of people gave us yen.
So what are we? Like Yen?
Actually, no way. That's so funny.
You know, that's very smart. Thick wad again at the moment
so. Which is good because you'll
actually use the cash over there as well.
Yeah, it'll cover, you know, all the food and other little bits and pieces. Spend more money on car stuff.
And our dollar's been the best since, I think more like better than it's ever been for the last five years.
So yeah, Yep. Absolutely it's.
Really good at the moment, yeah. And the the good thing about the
good thing about that Japan, Oh, sorry, sorry.
I was gonna say rephrase that. The weird thing about Japan is
that for such a technologically advanced society, they still rely on cash like which is which most of the things are doing cash, which is which is really weird.
You know, it's a bit of a bit of a weird contrast, but yeah, you'll you'll notice like 1 cent, you know, 1 yens and things. It's a bit weird.
But yeah, it'll all be. It all makes sense when you're
over there. Awesome, looking forward to it.
I'm just, I'm just disappointed that we're not going along on your honeymoon with you could. Have been a boys trip.
Boys trip slash honeymoon, hey. Darling, by the way, all me
mates are coming along. I forgot to tell you.
It'll be it'll be hopping on the flight and she'll be like, aren't they the your mates? And we were like.
Familiar. What?
A what a coincidence. And you're here.
Oh. Did you put no way, guys?
No. Way.
You're in the same hotel as us. What?
The room next door? No way.
The chance of this. Yeah, they are.
Wait, you guys are doing the same, same exact things we're doing? Oh no.
That would be a classic that that would be.
That'll be the ultimate stitch up.
That'll be like the best stitch up of all time.
Yeah, yeah. I mean you you'd come back a
single. That was so funny.
You'd be. It'd be so worth it.
Not the same level, but there were a group of us that went to America for to buy jet ski parts.
It was a jet ski holiday. So we're all buying souped up
jet ski parts back in the 90s when jet skis were only new to the country. So we're on our mission and we
stopped in Hawaii, three of us, and we're walking along the street. Lo and behold, two of our mates
are walking the other way. They knew we were going on
holidays and they booked the tickets without telling us and we went up with him in Hawaii. That's so sick.
It was the craziest night ever. I got so smashed.
I was sick for three days. You can see how, what's his
name? That famous golfer ended up on
the lawn over there in Hawaii about 10 years ago.
I don't know if you remember that Scotty is an Australian golfer. He's very famous golfer.
He end up getting into a fight into the altercation, end up well. I do vaguely remember that.
No money, nothing. That's what it was like.
So so that so it was pretty much the hangover it.
Was the hang. It was the hangover before it
even started. There's always getting married
that year, right? My my mates go this is going to
be a bucks night for the next two weeks.
They weren't wrong. Every night was a Bucks night.
In Bucks fortnight. Oh, it's a bucks fortnight.
It was crazy. We rolled up at the Hilton in
Las Vegas. Teens come flying out of the car
in this van that we modified as. He should.
As he should because my mate's an auto elect so he disconnected the Speedo so we didn't have to pay for the mileage.
Oh my God. We opened up the door, the
titties come flying out of the out of the van and and the security guard at the Hilton goes.
There's no room for here, boys. Move along.
Get out well. Seriously.
So we had to find another place. So did you have you had booked
the Hilton at this point or? No, no, we're just rocking up
back in days, days. There's no Internet.
No. Mobile phones were just new 1990
it was, yeah, yeah. So.
What a time to be alive. What a time to be alive.
Yeah, you, you just wing it. There's there's no GPS, no
navigation. It was maps.
Oh, yeah. Here's the thing I was telling
not some of my students recently about like Melways.
They had, they had no idea what a Melways was.
They're like, like what's what's a street directory?
Am I, it's a thing. It's it's like, it's like a map.
They're like, what do you mean like a treasure map?
Like on like a yeah, I'm like, Oh my God.
They they quite literally have what a malways is like.
I'm just like, you know. Yeah, just take one in, Maddie.
Hey, he's in the best. Take one into the class and
it'll freak out I. Should I should?
And and your and your girlfriend or wife would be turning the map around, work out which way they're going.
Man, I remember the the first thing I got on when I turned 18, so I got my licence on my on my 18th birthday.
I remember getting out and mom giving me a Melways.
Like I got a Melways as one of my first things.
She's like, you're going to need this.
And like my dad, he's like, oh, you can borrow my GPS if you need it. But like I was using Melways to
get everywhere. Like it was, it was man, that
was just that was the thing. That was the thing you did.
And it doesn't feel that long ago, but it honestly doesn't feel that long ago that we, you know, that we had those like it's, it's pretty, it's pretty crazy that.
Would have been like right at the turning point of transitioning or having maps on your phone or GPS is becoming like pretty cheap. Yeah.
So you'd still, yeah, if you didn't have money, you'd be using railways. And then if your parents or you
saved up enough money and get a GPS or a cool phone with a Maps on it, yeah. Did you do one of those Nokia's
that came up? It was called the Navigator and
they came up with proper, like a proper, you know, navigation on the phone where you didn't have to pay.
Yeah, inbuilt. And everyone's like, Oh my God,
you got the navigator. Wow.
Like that's, that was like a, that was a big thing.
Yeah, and I was so sick. Oh yeah, he's got the navigator.
He's. Still had to pay for the data
though, so that was expensive. Yeah, that was very expensive.
Regardless, right, I've got Garmin GPS on my motorcycle, right, So I use that when I'm travelling around.
Yeah, doing our tours, a group of mates and I went down to Tasmania, got the Garmin going and said let's find this road that goes from hit this point to the next point up sort of the northwest part of Tassie. We're riding along and telling
me to turn left down this road, turn right down this road and I end up at a gate and this guy comes with his with his quad bike. He goes, what are you boys doing
down here? I said I've just gone to
Silverton or whatever the town was.
He goes, you're the 4th person this week.
They've got navigated down through here.
This is. My farm.
Bloody hell. So, so funny.
But how does that happen? Like you, you think, you know,
like, because like when they do all the maps and things, like when they, they drive through Google Maps and all those things, like, yeah, we, we can't get through here.
So we're gonna just end the road there.
Like it's, it's weird how that that's that's how that happens.
Real weird. But the routing still takes you
down. Like yeah, to someone's
property, which is pretty how? How does that even work?
Oh. Garmin, I don't know what.
You. Just you, but then again it
happens. Off their head.
Yeah, Google Maps as well. I don't know if Apple Maps are
any better or worse. You guys sort of pick and
choose, I think where you're going and how elaborate the maps are. I'm using another map at the
moment. It's not, it's not actually gay,
but it's called Gaya, right? So, but at the maps are so that
that that's the map. And basically it it actually
gives you all the destinations and it plots your routes and everything like that. Oh yeah, that's actually right.
It's a free download, but it's a it's a real good navigation maps for some of the off the beat sort of, you know, sort of those sidetracks that if you want to sort of explore a little bit, explore. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
That's cool. Imagine if like, Navigation's
made itinerary for you, you know, just you're gonna stop here, you're gonna stop there. And you know, like, like have it
all, have it all planned. That'd be that.
'D be quite like AI powered or something, yeah.
You know, I mean, I mean, AI is taking over everything.
You may as well take over that so.
Yeah, just choose where I'm gonna go instead of man to work it out. Oh, that's funny.
And there was another. Really cool.
Again, there's other map programmes.
This is Reva and and actually plots your, your, your routes and whatever. But there's another one in
particular will actually grade the tracks for you.
And I'll tell you where it's a black track, like a, a real difficult one, an intermediate track or an easy track.
And they're fairly accurate to some extent.
It's all, it's all, you know, it's washed out and there's trees over the track and things like that.
And then it becomes a little more challenging and difficult.
Yeah, but. These are off road tracks, I'm
guessing Rod right? These are off road like trails
and stuff. Trails, yeah, yeah, OK.
And there's various levels of trails again, like you wouldn't take an adventure bike on A4 extreme 4 wheel drive track.
You'll never get a 300K bikes through it, but you may be able to get an enduro bike up through some of the stuff.
But it's amazing what some of these 4 wheel drive guys do and get through compared to even an enduro bike.
You have to be an extreme rider to be able to go up this 4 wheel drive track. The four drive will make up.
It's amazing. It's scary stuff.
It just takes so much out of you physically to try and get up a hill you would not believe, but yet you know the cars or 4 wheel drives just seem to just work their way up through it and just crawl up. It's amazing.
I did my first bit of proper 4 wheel driving when I was on Fraser Island recently and yeah, it's, it's amazing what like proper 4 wheel drives can actually do.
It's scary, yeah. Really cool.
I'll just say we're going back to four wheel drives a cars of the old. The old days in the 30s forties
had the big wheels because the roads were pothold and dirt and they used to be basically out there 4 wheel drives all the time. And now we're sort of going back
because our roads are so crap. But anyway, sorry Chad.
Chad, how you doing buddy? Oh, you're, well, I'm good, man.
Yeah, so I've just got back from New Zealand like last week, but, you know, just been sort of getting back into work and, you know, doing bits and pieces here and there.
Just as a recap, New Zealand is really cool and I think we should do a driving holiday there at some point because it is some of the most beautiful driving and just like scenery I've ever seen. I would be down for that.
Yeah, everything's like real, real chill.
And people are, you know, awesome.
I, I had some, like, crappy. Yeah, it was.
Yeah, it was bloody awesome. The highlight it's got to be I
went to my wife's uncle. He's like he has a farm and a
composting business and he just has toys like he, he's got machinery, like they use a lot of stuff for the composting, like a lot of diggers and excavators and shit like that.
And then also he just has four Unimogs like on his farm.
So he's just obsessed with them. Yeah, he's just obsessed with
these Unibogs. And he's got 2, two of them that
are like campers. They've got these like camper
that's mounted to the rear, like on the track.
And they like take them out camping.
Like people take out four wheel drives and these guys take out Unibogs, which is wild. And then he has one that he like
drives around his compound and he has another one that's like for parts or whatever. But yeah, we, we sort of went
around his like, I'm not, I'm not going to call it a farm because it's just like his house and the surrounding land and then his composting business, which is like sort of attached to it, but a little further out. Anyway, you can drive the entire
like, you know, around the place.
So yeah, he's just like, yeah, you would get in the Unimog.
We'll go for a ride and we're just driving through this farm on this Unimog and yeah, we'll go on up like insane inclines, like stuff like, you know, 3540° inclines with like no problems driving over trees and all kinds of stuff.
It's got these like 42 inch wheels and shit on it.
Yeah, it was. It was a lot of wild.
And. So it we stopped for a bit and
then he goes, yeah, get in, have a, you know, you've got your truck licence, have a go. I was like, of course, like I'm
not gonna turn this down, man. It was just like, it was wild.
It was like driving a tank basically is what I would imagine a tank would feel like and just drive over everything.
And you know, if there's no Rd, you just make a road.
And yeah, it was, it was, it was freaking cool that it was a really, really special experience.
And yeah, like it was just good just driving around New Zealand, seeing a lot of like Japanese cars that we never get here, a lot of random, you know, economy stuff or like, you know, there's like shit loaded like chases and crowns and all sorts of stuff like that. Yes, it's great fun.
And yeah, I'd love to do a driving thing that one day because even like, you know, fly there, buy a car for real shape, drive around sort of thing, like some sort of challenge maybe that'll be that'll be fun. That would be, yeah.
So, yeah. So since coming back, I haven't
really been doing much on the cars.
I've worked on Silvia a little bit on the weekend, just doing a little bits and pieces and yeah, just sort of tidying up the engine Bay and disconnecting some like lines, like vacuum lines, rerouting some stuff. And yeah, so just ordered a
catch can to put on and I'm waiting for that to arrive up from that. Yeah.
Just sort of been chilling, really getting back into it.
Ask for the updates with your. Not too much in the updating
things, but if you do remember a few weeks ago I was talking about the mobile fuels and filling up with mobile.
Then they changed. They've changed it and updated
it. Can't really say I've noticed
too much and that's just you know my normal driving hasn't hasn't really changed so not too much.
Not much of A change. I can get pretty good kilometres
out of the tank I've noticed. But then I'm thinking is it
because of the way that I was driving or because what I realised is the gauge will move pretty quick.
So once I filled up the range will say about 480 KS till empty and it drops fairly fast. It's not too bad.
Half when you hit about half of a tank, you're on about close to 250 KS about half a tank. But then when you get lower
around like 1/4 of a tank or lower, then it stays like for ages. So I was on about, I think it
was reading about 68 KS and I drove to Gladstone Park from Sunbury and then back and then over to Airport West.
Home again and then down to Sunbury and then back up to back up to the top Goonwara to fill up and it still said about 40 something KS left in the rain. Like it badly moved.
I'm like OK and I was sitting on about 445460 KS.
So if I let it and kept going, I would have got 500 kilometres about that tank. So yeah, I don't know.
It's just it's peculiar how it drops that fast but then when you get down right towards the bottom, the range just stays there and the needle just doesn't move like.
I think, I think modern cars that they're, they're quite conservative with their range, just to make sure that you go to a servo to get to get fuel. A lot of new, yeah, a lot of the
older cars were like if you're empty, you're empty.
But like the newer ones are like, oh, you know what, just we might say it's a bit earlier just so you can get some petrol in it. Unless it's a BMW, you're sort
of like, you store it a little bit there, 1 little, you know, bar and it stays there and then all of a sudden you run out and it's still there. No warning.
BMWs are great fuel gauge, good of experience that having you Scotty on your BMW when you had it.
Fuel gauges and the issues with them?
No, not. So much actually I did, I did
get it when I first got it and I was driving it around like it had high fuel consumption rate like it was it was a thirsty thing because you know, obviously M3 and I'm just all the way revving it out. Then I started like I was had it
up to to sell. So then I just started driving
it really conservatively and that a bit more jeez, did it drop. Yeah.
Would have been good for the new owner to have a look and go, Oh yeah, that's pretty good. Yeah, you mustn't that much.
Pretty good fuel economy. Rob updates with your cars.
Apart from the E 430 being finished, all put together now, it's been listed on marketplace being my and that's going to be the car of the week and the 10 green, so I'm going to flog it to the end. Absolutely.
Why not? Why not?
So apart from that, I just, I think I've found a hoist, a parking hoist. So I'm going to get that.
Just when I get a bit of time, I'll I'll get that and set it up at the workshop. So the a couple of I could fit
an extra car into the workshop easing and up.
So I'll have be able to put basically four cars in my lighting dock rather than three. So to make it a bit.
Yeah. Rather than having the one car
sitting outside collecting dust. Yeah, at least to be a bit more
protected from the weather. It's the apart from that, been
driving Harley's cars to keep them.
They can keep the batteries charged while he's on holiday.
So I have to drive the C63 everywhere, give it a good and drive it again. You have a lot of.
Shame, I know. It's tough.
It's. Tough, but.
Yeah, yeah, someone has to do it.
Hard work hard. Work.
It is hard work driving the C63. You gotta be real careful.
I had a bit of a pull up next to this guy in an SS Commodore or behind him actually. He took off real hard and we
broke the speed limit a little bit, just a little bit allegedly, and I'll keep it. I'll pull to the left and sort
of try to keep with him. I wasn't close to him.
I stayed away from him, but he is pulling it.
You know, when he shouldn't have been going so hard and he probably thought I was chasing him or something.
I don't know. But he wouldn't got to a
roundabout and I was going to turn left and merge into the left. He wouldn't let me go left.
And he was looking at me like, what the Hell's going on?
Why are you following me? And he's putting his arms in the
air. And I thought, I thought we're
just having a bit of fun. Like, I I wasn't trying to
intimidate him or anything like that.
But he he he pushed it. The Commodore went pretty hard.
He's SS, so I'm pretty impressed.
You know, that LS done well. Well done.
Yeah. He wasn't happy for some reason.
And I don't know why. Yeah, so.
Yeah, I think, I think he was a bit, he was a bit hurt that he's like he's, you know, had a had a Mercedes following him.
Maybe he'd done well. I was pretty, like I said, I was
pretty impressed with him going. I didn't want to push it.
He was pushing it hard and we're getting to a point where it's going to be like crush, you know, crush your car level sort of stuff. So I didn't want to take it to
that point and lose my son's car.
So. No, no.
So, you know, so I backed off and you sort of let him, you know, keep on going. So, you know, I thought it was
quite reasonable, but yet he wasn't happy.
I don't. And I really don't know why.
I'm still trying to work it out. So in my head I thought this
would have been real cool, you know, but he wasn't happy about it. No, no.
He knows if SS drivers know he could have had a bad fight with his missus or ran out of his favourite energy drink at the server or something. Yeah, yeah, the Monster Energy
drink or something, Yeah, who knows?
But they're normally Ranger drivers, aren't they?
Yeah, they get it. Sorry, Ranger drivers, I love a
Ranger, but I wouldn't buy one. Yeah.
Slander for two types of car people now.
So good. So good.
I I won't say it anymore. My mates Dr Rangers my.
What's going on with you? You know what it is, I think
when you're driving a four wheel drive like that, be it not it could be a Toyota rough road or rugged or whatever you want to call it or you know, a what's that?
A Warlock or whatever you want to call them.
When you're in these cars, you feel like you're inventing and if you get this slow drive in the right lane, you got to agitate them or you, you need to get them, you know, worked up, pull over or be right up their ass and to like do pull over like you, you, you just have to do that when you're in a car like that. It it's, yeah.
So as any Ranger owner would know, or people that have been on the roads with ranges which are quite frankly everywhere, they, they there's like there's like a BMW close, Audi close and there's Ranger close. Like, like Rangers like right up
your ass. Like like like there's like a
centimetre between you. You're catching the bumper.
Yeah, yeah. You wouldn't know anyone who
drives the Ranger, would you? Nah, not.
At all, not at. All he's on.
He's you know, he's, he's been beating cars in his in his Raptor recently. He's he was telling me you know
all. That's so funny.
All you know, legally and beating SS Commodores and beating skier Stingers and he's like he's like I'm going bloody driving a truck. I'm like, oh, here we go.
But that's a that's another story has.
He got it. No, it's not too bad.
It's like easy. I was like for a stock for a
stock little car or big car. This thing, this thing's a
weapon. He took me to.
I hadn't been in the Raptor until he took me in a property in it the the other week. They bloody RIP like it just it
they fly the the V6 twin turbo Raptors so surprised me.
I can see the appeal. Don't like the fuel economy, but
I can see the appeal updates with me.
Want to clarify something that you've said you've said, Chad?
So I was Sunday. I was driving over the Westgate
and I was behind a uni mug of of all things and an ex army.
Yeah, ex army uni mug. Steph was like, what is that?
I'm like that, my friends, is a, is a, is a is a Unimog and I have to explain to her what a Unimog is anyway.
And I'm like, that is a car you buy when you can go and you can go quite literally anywhere. Like the like that, you know,
people rock up with these ranges and the highlights and stuff.
Nah, yeah, you know, and, and, and I just love to see the person that's rocks, rocks up in the Hilux and they they think they're all tough and, you know, hopping out of a Ranger or any one of those shitty dual cab use and then a guy in it with a proper fool driver like a like a uni.
Morgan says now this is a Ute mate, that's that would be the most that would ever happen to them in their entire life and I'm all for. It they would sell it, they'd
sell their whatever it is. 100% they'll be like Oh yeah man.
I even like those the new truck heads.
I think for the ices, instead of getting a Ute, they roll up in the truck and everything's like bigger and better, you know, rolling up in a truck, you know, you know, on a site with your, all your tools and whatnot, you can figure if you want it.
It was a real good ad. Well, here's the thing though,
right? Like that, you know.
Yeah, the trade park. Yeah, Trade Park, Yeah, that's
it. Yeah.
Like they're, they're actually, they're so much more usable.
Why? Why would you like dual cab
youths? You don't really fit much in
them. They don't don't really do much.
Useless. Yeah, so.
Eutless. Eutless, Yeah, correct.
Eutless. So yeah, that is.
Truck the world I see. Hashtag truck the world.
What have I been doing in my car?
Update wise? Not much really.
This way I've been flat out. I'm planning on doing a few
little, you know, bits and bobs here on the holidays.
I'm going to drive to Adelaide for a wedding, but apart from that, not much on my car front. Gentlemen, tonight's topic guys,
we're going to do car of the week.
We haven't done the car of the week in a while because we haven't done a Sunday kickback in a while, which we, we got to kind of get back into car of the week.
You know the rules, $10,000 speed spending limit.
We're going to find the best car for sale currently for 10 grand and then we choose who's got the best car.
Now Chad, you've sent me yours. Shall we look at yours first
still? Go ahead.
Now, now, Rob, you like BMWs, don't you?
I. Love them.
Scotty, not so much. I have some fair reasons as to
why. As to why now this gentleman
this is actually a really cool car.
This is a 1988 BMWE 32 manual 7 Series, so 175,000 KS.
It's Manuel extremely rare factory manual sports pack delete option 7 Series would be the lightest factory spec available in its day. Has none of the options that an
Aussie delivered car has. No sunroof, no leather, no one
bought computer. It's got an analogue clock, no
electric seats, no sunroof, no cruise no and it's got vinyl seats. Was optioned from the factory
with a 5 speed manual and sport suspension and limited sub death. Ordered from a dealer in Hong
Kong by a Brit who with a set of bracing dynamics wheels was driving regularly 3 years ago and now won't start because BMW have put have put brand new lead set, CPS trigger and fuel pressure. They still won't go.
Can't hear the fuel pump so it might be there.
Comes with a 95% complete brand Aussie auto car for spares.
Both engines were excellent parked.
They always say that looks like a big E30 on the road with more space. Update To be clear the prices
for both cars the manuals is a 730 and the auto is a 735.
Happy to trade the manual for a diesel, you know waggon or old motorcycles. So Rob, I know you got some old
motorcycles. He'd be happy to take this, but
this is it actually looks really straight.
The fact that it's a manual's really cool and the fact that it's such a poverty spec, you know version of it.
I don't think I've ever seen on like this this and it's also got it's also says modified, though I don't know what it's modified with but. Yeah, that's interesting.
Because it's got it's got a modified it's got an M plate on it. But yeah, this is the brown car
that's, you know, still available, but you could possibly take all the options out of the brown car and put it in this. But yeah, this it looks quite
good and you're getting all this mechanical, you know, perfection for 6500 bucks. So Chad, I'm actually bargain.
It's a it is a I actually quite like this car.
I think it's I think it's quite good.
The fact that you're getting 2 for the price of one's pretty pretty good. Yeah.
So what made you choose this? Way you get all the all the
spares man, I just there's something about big sedans or even SUV's, but being manual there's it's a very special driving experience. As soon as this came up, I, I
particularly, I wasn't even looking for something like this and it was like a recommended, you know, when you first open up marketplace, it was a recommended thing that came up and I was like, this has to be it.
It's like it's meant for this episode.
That's just so cool. I mean, a big saloon manual and
you can potentially put a 3.5 litre V8 in it.
And I don't know how the marrying up the gearbox would work, but you know, just cool. I really like, you know, base
model cars as well, which is another plus for me.
Absolutely. Yeah.
I just, I don't know, man. I just really like the the E32
model. So cool.
Your thoughts, Scotty and Rob? Look, I had the generation,
probably that one. He's shown a picture of the
seven series. The family had one for years and
we bought it near new. My dad paid $30,000 for it back
in 1989 I think and he got off the $36,000 for it straight away when he when he bought it and decided to keep it.
But we had many years of fun repairing the car, you know ABS brakes and pieces falling off a bit.
Great car. Beautiful car to drive when it
worked, Deb broke down in it while she was no you know, fuel gauges playing up showing there was fuel in it and no fuel in it. You know that's.
That's what you're alluding to. Just little things like that.
But great car, Deb Deb loved it. I loved it when it worked.
When it worked, I like it. I like it.
Rob, good choice, good choice. I think Chad that that's, that's
a, that's a really cool car. They are a nice car to drive.
Brilliant car to drive. And it is pretty cool to find
one with manual too. Yeah, like a fuck a fuck.
That would be so bloody rare. Yeah, yeah, very cool.
Next one is Scotty's car. So, Scotty, do you want to tell
us what a little bit about this before we get into it?
Yeah, it's 1995 is when it came out.
It is a Subaru, but we've gone for Subaru Legacy Legacy GT 1995. That's good.
It's a very nice purple. White colour, colour.
Sure, it's yeah, purple burgundy ish.
I know it's hard to tell kind of in the light.
It's the photos. It's quite.
Tall too. As it says, he's got 85,000
kilometres. Wow.
But that's on the he's saying on the new forged short block engine, 85,000 kilometres, fairly new gearbox, it's only done 20,000 kilometres on it. So short block being Subaru,
it's blown up and a gearbox being made out of glass as A5 split. It's blown up.
It's blown up. Oh.
No, it's got everything you'd want.
There's already new tyres. That's got a front mount, so I
think by the looks of it. Let's break it too.
That's cool. Not sure if it's factory sunroof
or maybe aftermarket sunroof, but it's got one of those and he's got parts ready for you to put it for roadworthy too.
So it comes with all original parts too in case it doesn't par, in case it doesn't pass. So you got everything full ECU
computer system as well. So it's not factory system in
there. Don't say how much power it's
running though, but. It's been tuned by Spring
Performance Turbo time up. Yeah, I'd say it'd be making a a
fair bit of power in it. Big, bigger turbo front mount,
etcetera. So it it it'd go well, this
thing would go very well. But having a look of the
interior, it's actually really clean.
That's kind of why I chose it. It's not really chewed up and
messed up like the seats are a really nice steering wheel.
Still looks schmick. Actually really want to look
after. I like this generation of.
This is such a cool shape, yeah. Good shape.
Yeah, a man of mine had one. His one was wasn't a GT but it
was a a Bilstein edition or Bill Stein.
Yes. Yeah.
It came with all that and it handled really, really well and it was white and it looked good and it drove good and I was I oh, and it felt like a nice car, like it felt really good quality and I was always I was taken back by that car.
I was like, this is a cool car, but that is that's.
And it looks really nice without a rear spoiler on it.
Yeah, I agree with that. Actually it looks better without
the spoiler on this one. Yeah, I liked mine without the
rear spoiler. There's something about it
without it. It just looks nicer.
I reckon maybe if it just had like a little rear lip or something. Lip Yeah, if that came with that
would have been perfect. But yeah, I really like this car
and it's 7500. It's.
It's a good price. That's incredible price.
So that's a lot of car for the money, isn't it really?
Yeah, considering like the stuff that's put into it, even just the ECU on its own and that you're looking at a couple grand already? Absolutely.
Yeah, Cardigan with it. Now that is a, that is a, that
is a cracking choice. Scotty, I'm happy with that.
Rob, your thoughts on it? I I think it's nice and yeah, it
looks like it's well sorted 4 wheel drive, you know, great for the icy roads in New Zealand. Yeah.
A good choice. You see a lot of Subarus in New
Zealand, but yeah, I think it'll be a good car.
They're not bad, and you probably can find a lot of parts for it too, to keep it going too for quite a long time.
Yeah, yeah, I understand. Yeah, absolutely up there.
It's going to be a tough one this week.
Absolutely, Absolutely. I really like this.
The only thing that concerns me is when cars are like pretty highly modified, especially if it's had to rebuild through someone else like you don't know or whatever that that would be my only concern. But for the price, what you're
getting, what has that's that's incredible value.
And that is my favourite shape, like Legacy for sure.
I think it's just nice, clean, simple design.
And it's kind of, I don't know, I think it's aged really well as well. Yeah, that's a good choice,
Scotty. I think it's going to be a
tough. One it's they're a handsome car.
I do like them. All right, gentlemen, be
prepared. My choice.
Oh boy. Here we go.
All right, stick with the 90s. Nineteen 99 Neil What's the most
reliable car you can buy? In 1999.
Toyota, of course, and it'd be a Camry camera.
Close. It's a Corolla.
Corolla. So.
But not just any Corolla. This is a turbocharged Corolla.
I remember them, they're the bug eye ones.
They look. The bugger ones, Yep.
So this one is a CSCSX turbo charged, I think I believe the turbo kits off a off a, you know, one of the turbo charged ones, the Sportivo that came because you'll buy a turbo charged version of it. So yeah, it's got the it's got
the Sportivo gauges, all the Sportivo interior door cards, etcetera. But it's obviously this one's
black, not gold, because all those ones were were gold.
SO250. 1000. KG it's got it's only $4250
which is I think an absolute steel.
Selling my Corolla turbo levied interior, no damage at all.
Everything works, interior ones work.
Just bought a spotivo so it needs to go for my sweet TiVo to be on the road or change 1000 case ago.
All new gaskets for the turbo setup.
Minor oil leak, no big issue at all.
TDO 4 turbo 2 inch dosepipe, basic gold coilovers, full custom exhaust injectors. MAP sensor makes this six PSI
and gets on boost amazingly. Rego until midway.
Good rego until the you know, the 6th month of 2025.
Working with the roadway that he needs to go this week to make room. It's located in Hadfield.
That is, I think, a cracker. 4. Thousand 4250 bucks.
Oh wow, like. You you cannot get a more fun
car for for for that like that is unbelievably cheap.
Yeah, so. That's crazy.
That's that's crazy. It's you know, I thought thought
I thought that was a when I saw that I was like, Oh, that's, that's a good buy. So that for me is my pick of the
week. Gentlemen, your thoughts please.
What can I say? Turbo power.
Corolla. Maybe Corolla reliability, but
if you look at mighty car mods they're blown up a look few Toyota motors once the turbo they.
Have. Yeah, but.
It's all right, you know, as long as you don't overstress them too much, they'll be all right.
I'd say you'd be safe running that boost that's.
Pretty. Slow.
Yeah, six piece size, not much at all.
Yeah, that's twinched dose pipe 2D O 4 sounds great.
Yeah. Yeah.
I feel like you'd get. Oh man, that's tough.
You'd get the bug and you'd start upping the boost.
Boost and. That's the thing that that's the
thing that I'm scared of if I bought it.
Yeah. I'd be like, oh it's only
running that let's up at another few.
Let's up at. Another yeah, and then you go
yeah, one PSI too many and then. Yeah, yeah.
It's interesting. Like in America, like the, the
engine that's in my laser on the, they got what's called the Mazda speed Protege. And they, it was basically the
same car, just with a, with a turbo bolted on from Callaway.
Callaway the, you know, the American company, they, they, they put, they made a factory turbo kit for it.
They put an LSD in it and it was like really running like 4-4 or 5 lbs of boost. And when people started were
like winding them up to like 7-8, nine, 10 lbs of boost.
They were blowing them up. They're like, oh, these are just
called take it. No wonder why it was never made
to boost the first place in the first place.
They set it low for. The reason?
Yeah. Stock internal engine like.
Nothing's forged in that. Yeah, so, but I still think it's
a cracker. I think for 4250 bucks that is.
And if he's that desperate, I'll offer him 3 grand and I'll take it tomorrow off his hands. Also you got like 6 grand to fix
it. 100 percent, 100%. So I think, I think that's a, I
think I think that's, that's a good choice.
Rob your car. Well, mine's a Stuttgart
special. Oh, here we go.
V8 all nice and shiny look at that wait, let me just scroll through that way, you know look at look at look at that beautiful car it looks. Tidy that.
Rob Very tidy. It looks very tidy Car.
It's it's all polished up nice interior, all black right now because we're looking at cars when we're competing here.
It's just speed marked down just 5 minutes ago from 8000 and 4240 dollars $10 less than the Corolla.
Wow right, so and the price can even go even lower to make sure it wins today right? So so it could be gone tomorrow,
so you know it's all right. It's got 241,000 kilometres on
it, but it's been well maintained, hopefully.
But this is a heck of a sales job.
Look brand new painted bumper bars, not a scratch on it.
All recently done. Yeah, look at that.
The the roof's all being painted all nice, like JDM black.
Look at that. Yeah, look at.
That very nice so that that's the recent shots of it.
So the car's ready to go tomorrow, but for that price, no roadworthy. Yep.
E 430. E 430.
E430 yeah. E 4:30 Nice V8. 4.3 litre V8.
Yep, beautiful. All sounds great.
Upper bars all painted up, all all fresh, everything's all clean. Actually looks quite good.
Ready to go, ready to go to a new one.
And it's 4240 dollars, $10. And the Corolla it had, it had
to be price, it had to be slashed, it had to be.
You had to do a a a price beat guarantee.
Price beat guarantee it is. You sound, you sound like you're
buddy. You're working out with me,
mate. You know, price match price beat
that. That's it.
I, I can't say much more. The the car explains itself.
I don't need to sell it anymore. Grand Saloon.
It's it's up there with the BMW that Chad presented, you know, and it's that grand Turo, you know, you can go across the country in comfort. You could Chad your thoughts on
this car. Oh.
Man, my friend used to have one a while back and he was a bit of a silly goose let's say, and he put it straight through exhaust on one of those and Oh my God, the sounds they can make are.
Really good. Like otherworldly.
I remember I was taking it through the Burnley tunnel and we must have like we must have damaged something on the interior of that tunnel because I can't believe how loud that car was. It's so I have really fond
memories of that car and being the first, you know, E Class and it's it's, it's something new or what was something new to Mercedes at the time. And yeah, I don't know, the,
the, the shape is a bit quirky, but yeah, just kind of got past that engine. It's that's great.
And I mean just mark down to probably $4250 like out of nowhere that's. 10 and 40 dollars $10.
Coupon like that, right, we're doing 1010 dollars maybe by $10 yeah, buying style yeah, that's incredible value.
I mean, yeah, maybe by $10 that's yeah, that is that's astounding value. That's that's a good one, Rob.
That's going to be very tough to make a decision tonight.
Scotty, your opinion? You you've now you've owned a
car with this exact engine. Yeah, I reckon, yeah, he wins
for that price. He's that's.
Not his soul, how is he's? Getting out of that.
All right, so let's, let's, let's retake.
So we've got the E430 for $4240. We've got my Corolla Turbo, a
1999 Karola turbo, $4250 TDO 4 and A and a good exhaust.
We've got Scotty's legacy GT built short block and you know nicely modified, really clean exterior, really clean interior would make a great driver and we've got chads 2.
Not one you might. You're getting two cars with
chads, by the way, E32, lovely little several lovely little big, big, Yeah, the big car, the E 32 seven series, man.
Well, one's a manual, a Hong Kong car, but a manual really cool spec. And you're getting a full Aussie
delivered spec as well. You're getting two cars with a
price of price of one and his is a price at 6500.
How much was your score to yours was like 670?
5. 75 S yeah, plenty of you know, good, good buying here.
All all of them underneath are like under the, the the $10,000 budget. So you know, there's there's
some good, there's some good vehicles here.
It's gonna be, it's gonna be a hard one to pick.
Us indeed. All right, so let's go through.
So Chad, all right, what's your, what's your 1-2 and three if you have to, if you have to pick. I'm gonna do.
Since the other ones came up, I'm gonna go three.
I'm going to go from 3 to one. Number three for me is the BMW,
the seven Series only because it does require some work to, you know, get it going and potentially, you know, get some parts from the other car, etcetera.
This number 2 for me is going to be that Corolla though, because for that price, A4 banger turbo manual, I mean, that takes every single box for fun spec and then price.
My God. But because of the engine and
the sound it can make, I have to go with Rob's VA.
It's just, I don't know. Yeah, it's very hard to beat.
It's incredibly hard to beat. Could be controversial, but you
know, comfortable VA executive saloon, that that's got to be my pick, actually. Yeah, 100%.
So Rob's Rob's one on the board. Scotty from 321.
Let's go 321. 321 #3 I would go with probably mine, The Subaru
would be #3 I think it would be a lot of fun.
Seems like, you know, could be fairly reliable.
Obviously with all that work it's hasn't been babied around or anything so. It would have.
It would have had a life. Yeah, of course.
Tough life. So, yeah, so that's number
three. Number two is the Corolla.
I think that would be absolutely sweet to drive around in.
A lot of fun. Plenty of parts out there for it
too if need be if anything happens.
Wouldn't be too tricky. Nice.
Reliable by the looks of it. I don't think it would be too
hard to get the roadworthy that it needs.
Plus it's cheap already as it is.
Number one, It's pretty obvious what's number one I guess isn't it? Number one is Rob.
Wow. Yeah.
I mean I've I've owned one of those motors in AC class, they do sound rather nice with mine. I just removed the secondary
muffler. OK.
That was in the middle. I removed that and then piped it
just to the rear muffler and it was nice.
It sounds really, really good. Hasn't really, Yeah, I don't
know, just a distinct V8 that something about and that just sounds good. Yeah.
It's not like super fast, but it was for its time.
Yeah, but yeah. Were these flat plane crank V
eights back in those times? Don't.
No, I don't think. They were I.
Think. They were, they were.
Why do they sound so different to Aussie V eights or American V eights? I can't work it out.
Yeah, they've got a, they've got a very distinctive tone, don't they? Like they've, they've got,
they're, they're just, they make it.
They make. Such a such a might be because
it's it's smaller. Could have something to do with
the cams and everything too. Yeah, they got they got
something right. Yeah, and I mean, taking that on
big drives, just floating over the road, perfect.
Not parking though. Parking with a pain in the ass
but. So just you guys now almost
convincing me to keep the car and change the exhaust system.
I. Mean, yeah, you know.
Do I need another do? You want to fun daily saloon V8.
Do I need another, you know, E Class in the family?
Maybe not. And I've got a few V eights in
the family as well. So, you know, I probably don't
need a fourth one. It's a toughy.
I I can't really, I mean, I shouldn't go for my car.
I'm going to go for the Corolla and then yeah, then one sorry, I'll go from top to down. Then I'm going to go to the
Beamer because I like the idea of the four speed.
I really do. I just like that idea of it, you
know, with the Beamer and the potential Subi Mercedes, seeing that it's my car, I'm going to go Subi.
There you go. Very humble, very he's a humble
kind of guy. What can we say?
He's he's he's a good amongst men.
My choice. I actually like the Subaru.
I think the Subaru is such a really nice looking like you, you don't see them that clean anymore and they're a really handsome looking car. So I only go 3rd.
I'm going to go the Merck second.
I'm going to go the BMW because that's that's very cool.
But but that Subaru really impressed me was like that is a crack. That's a lot of car for 7500
bucks like that. I think it's a bit too tuned,
got good suspension, got good wheels.
Yeah, I'm I'm all about it. I'm I think I think I'm on that
on that on that train. But that means that's when I and
the car that we're telling our audience to buy out of all of this list is, is an E430. Goodbye.
But we're telling. It to buy not as it is we're
telling it to buy it because of the potential as we the.
Potential stay on. I I really like I will actually
see that car Rob, because it looks quite nice.
So congratulations on you win, Rob really really cool car.
Now I want to show you guys my my backup and I want to get your opinion on because I think this is actually pretty cool.
The reason why I went for the coral is because something different, but this would have been my my next pick.
Your thoughts please, gentlemen on a 2000 Volvo V70 waggon.
But it is not not only look at the look at it's got 2 two sets of wheels. But.
It's a. It's a manual. 2. 150,000 KS,
which is which is OK, but it's got a lot it's got it's had a lot of work done to it. So it's 2.4 turbo 5 cylinder
stage 1 tune 180 kilowatts bunch of service items done including talking about PCV system and brand new ABS module load and BC call calls around brand new so good bridge that potential sets of wheels. It's called AM boost gauge comes
with a whole bunch of bigger you know parts like a bigger turbo big brake kit all this extra stuff for all a price of 7500 bucks. That is a cool car for 7500.
Dollars. That is bloody incredible.
Manual waggon turbo ripped the front tyres off.
Front wheel drive turbo off. Set.
Is it front wheel drive or all drive that?
One's front wheel drive on these.
OK, it's front wheel. It's AV 70 and not AV70R.
Yeah, V70, yeah. Yeah, that's awesome now.
You would have. You would have probably won it
if you chose that. Yeah.
Honestly. I would have picked it.
I would have picked it. That's that's a cracker.
That's incredible. That's got a lot of goodies on
it, too. It's a good looking car and it's
all like it in the green too. I think it's really, really
cool. But anyway, is it time?
Is it time for the quiz? I am.
Well, you know the, you know the rules. 3 tough, three questions,
10 questions plus some bonus questions.
So we've got Scotty playing, we've got Rob playing and we've got Chad playing for the the illustrious rules of bragging rights. Let's crack on with question
one. Sangyong has today officially
changed its name. It was all over the news.
What will be what will be called from here on in?
Oh. Chad.
Chad. I saw this the other day because
they were I think they were preparing to and I forgot but it's like KGT or something. I'll, I'll give it to you.
Yeah. KGM.
KG. OK, It's OK.
It is KGM. It is KGM.
Yeah. So KG mobility.
Well done. KG It's such a weird name.
Such a yeah. I don't know, doing weird things
has been named World's Car of the Year for 2024.
Gosh, I need to World Car of the Year.
World. Car of the Year.
Are we 2024? Chad.
Chad, I'm. Just going to take you a.
Stab, I'm going to say the. Test on model Y.
Incorrect. You're on the right train.
Though it is an electric car. That's what I was thinking about
then. I don't.
Know what? What?
One Rob. Rob The.
BYD incorrect. OK.
Well over everyone, Scotty. Will give it to you.
It's might be a. Start with Scotty.
I hope you're not researching this in the background.
No, no, no. Hands are wrapped.
In I'm going to say Tesla Model 3.
No, it's the Kia EV. 9 Oh, OK yeah, that one.
That one. That one World car of the year.
Oh wow, that's such a crazy choice and no one's buying.
Them. I never would have said, never
would have said that one. That's wild.
I wanted it to be the. Ionic, but you know.
Yeah, the Ionic 5 N would have been.
It would. Have been a cool car, yeah, but
no, I didn't think it would get it.
Chad, would you like a score check?
Yes. Please.
Yep. So.
Scotty. And Rob are on yet to score and
Chad you're on one you're winning so far.
Good job. He's he's given a fist pop
question three in the first rush hour movie with Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan. What Car does Chris Rob?
It's a Corvette. It is a.
Corvette What on Rob? Bonus question, what colour is
it? Rob.
Rob, was it gold? Incorrect.
So this is this is. Carter's C3 Corvette.
What colour is it, Tom? You guys, you guys have seen the
Rush Hour movies, right? Short.
Yeah, I haven't seen it for. Years Bronzy.
Coloured car but it could be red.
It's Scott. Scott, I'll.
Go with red. It is incorrect.
It is not red. It wasn't black.
I don't know why black has come to line.
It was black Chad. Well done.
Bonus. Bonus question.
Yeah, bonus must. Here we go.
Anyway. In the 1st movie it gets.
Towed. Why does it get towed?
It was parked in the legal spot, wasn't it?
No, that's incorrect, Rob. It's that.
Is not correct. That's what that's what I that's
what I thought people would answer me though I must have parked it illegally, but no. Did you recently just rewatched
these movies? I watched them all, Yeah.
Oh man, it's. Been too long since I've seen
these movies. They're very iconic and.
You guys all out? You guys both out?
Yeah, even if I don't. Include it was it because he was
packed in front of the embassy when he shouldn't be?
No, but you got he gets towed to the.
Embassy. So what happened was the FBI
asked so spoilers for anybody that hasn't seen the first one.
Carly is asked to to babysit Jackie Chan's character Lee.
And so he's taking him around and then basically he's like, look, we need to get to the embassy.
Stop wasting my time. He's like, all right, let me go

He's like, OK. And he's like, shake on it.

The last one is a brochure question where you got to kind of you got to figure out what the what the car is by me telling you the details about it.
The new Toyota blank will go very fast.
If you wait too long, you'll see the new Toyota blank.
The only place you'll catch it will be in the view of the road.
Even then, you'll be you'll have to be quick to start with.
It will go very fast because we only have a limited number available, but Blank will be in more demand for what it has to offer. It looks as though it's moving
fast even when standing still. The sleek, aerodynamic styling
is a result of hundreds of hours of tunnel wind testing tunnels.
Blank is also true to its name. Toyota's nose 1.6 litre super
responsive engine really sprints when you give it.
When you put your foot down, it literally gives you super response. The engine is based on a
remarkable low inertia design where the weight of the block and movie parts have been greatly reduced to allow the engine to Rev more freely. Very simply, you'll get more
power from a wider engine. Blank is also endowed with the
ability to handle the power with precise rack and pinion steering, Toyota suspension shooting and a 5 speed manual transmission. It is also impressive to sit in.
Impressive to sit in with an ergonomically designed instrumentation pedal, lumbar support, AM FM cassette, radio, I just was steering wheel and split rear seat to name a few.
In fact, many features are standard and the only key options are air conditioning and electric sunroof. the Super
responsive engine isn't the only thing that will make the blank go quickly. So the price for around 11,500
plus on roads. Find your nearest blank at your
Toyota dealership. I like.
I just don't know what. Scott, Scott, I feel it's a
Toyota Corolla. It is a Corolla.
Can you? Can you?
Be can you be? More specific I'll give.
You .5. Because you're like, you're

Chad Well. Done a 80.
A 86 sprinter Oh isn't. It.
