There's a professional radio. That's front wheel drive so.
Have you got anyone you want to thank?
Just myself. And now I do the after hours,
gentlemen. What would you go for?
They see us in there, OK? And because it's not a super
duck, it's not ordinary. Perfection comes in the form of
two letters. A&U.
Long live my Ltd. Welcome to Car Talk.
It's Tuesday night here in 90.9 NW FM.
It's me, Maddie J, on line with Mr. David Prince, Mr Scotty Doe
Johnson and in studio with the one Only Got.
My name. Blanked out Alamdeep Singh, the
legend himself. Oops.
He was a he was a OK, well, you're a God amongst men, let's be honest. And I apologise for getting in,
for forgetting. I've just had a mentally
blanked. It's all right.
It's all right, Maddie. I'm sorry, dude.
Yeah, I'll give you a hug, man. I'm sorry, bro.
Like it's it's. I'll accept the title Demigod,
demigod. I'm not that conceited, just
the. Case.
And that's what makes you so special, Ella.
Yeah. He's a he's a good egg.
We are also joined by Chad. How you doing, Chad?
Hey. Guys, yes, you can hear me.
Yeah, I can hear you loud and clear, buddy, Loud and clear.
Good to see you guys. Let's crack on with some car
updates before we do that, though.
We we spent on Sunday. It was it was a nice lunch lunch
together. I think it was a we.
Had a very good lunch together it.
Was it was a good day. We'll we'll cover that in more
detail. But it was just it was good to
see you guys in real life, not on the on the screen.
So it was actually nice to to physically, you know, see, see you in 3D. Touch and smell you all, you
know. I mean, that's probably a bit.
I mean, I mean, I mean, I don't mind, but as as long as no one tells anybody else that, that's OK.
So let's get in with some car updates.
David Prince updates with you. I had a well, I had a lovely
weekend getting out, seeing you boys.
I took my very exotic Volkswagen Caddy because I found myself without a car in the garage to take, which is unusual.
I the biggest character I don't think I've got at the moment is that I've actually seen my N1 in person.
It's not a figment of my imagination.
I'm not just spinning this big story.
The big numbers match up and I've actually sat in it and started it and all those cool things.
So that's pretty exciting. It exists, It exists.
So it's actually being complied now.
It was just waiting on the they needed a photo with it, with the factory air box on that I had sent to me from Japan last week.
And it can then it has to be noted onto Neftes, which I think it's Neftes, it's the National Register of VIN numbers.
So it can't actually be registered till it's on that register. So not sure how long it'll take
to get that done, but it's looking pretty imminent, which is good. Very cool thing.
Actually, just in the last 24 hours, I am not sure if I mentioned before, but in front of the gear lever in the photos, I could see a, a little badge that said Seeker Motorsport on it. And I thought, oh, that's
interesting. And I so with a bit of Googling,
I found that I hadn't realised that Seeker is a modifying house. Yeah, Tune shop in Japan, which
sort of explained why it's got few bits and pieces from different manufacturers in as much as it's got some spoon suspension and some Mucan exhaust and a couple of blitz pieces and stuff. So I found that they had an
agent in Australia, so I miss I emailed the agent just contact us, gave them the VIN number and said hi there, just brought this car to the country. I'm not sure if you can tell
from the VIN number what sort of, you know, modifications it has or if there's a register, if it's even available.
Anyway, I didn't think much about it.
That was last week sometime. And I got a really nice email
yesterday, quite chatty and oh, you know, congratulations.
Congratulations, David. That'll be a great addition to
the, to your garage, you know, blah, blah, blah, blah.
And I thought, well, that's a bit bit familiar and chatty and nice. And he pointed out that the next
to the ECU there should be a, a seeker serial number and that will actually let us know which particular state of stage of tune it has. OK.
So and then a then a few other bits and pieces to detail and let me know that there are actually some parts coming in that will also fit their six 60s obviously because it's the same drive. Train, yeah.
You know, keep an eye on the website for some updates of some extra bits and pieces. So I thought, oh, that's good.
And then the name at the bottom, I thought, oh, I know that name.
Turns out he's actually a friend of mine on Facebook that I've never met. He's in WA, but I, I, he sort of
friended me through another big mate over in WA.
Who's in the Honda scene over there?
Yeah, so I've gauging garage actually the guy that runs it, his name's Ben Granger. And yeah, I hadn't made the
connection that that he actually ran it.
So there you go. That's handy little link to
have. That's hilarious dude.
I can't. Wait to actually get it back.
And I said, you know, I'll probably be putting that.
I'll put the pod philtre back on.
And he said I wouldn't worry. I wouldn't bother.
If you don't don't, you know, it's not going to make any difference really, unless you like the sound of warm induction. I said, oh, there you go.
OK, that's an option, but maybe not so.
So yeah, that was a nice little, little connection to have.
It's another one of those David knows somebody who knows somebody who know or David knows somebody that knows somebody that also knows this person that was related back to him through his goldfish. But also, you know, he seems to
know everybody, Mr. David Prince and it's it's I mean that just
shows what a quality human you are.
So so there you go. I.
Think it's just a small world in the car world sometimes that you know, people are connected through different people and the like. Yeah, I would agree with that.
And I caught up with another friend of the show briefly today, David Day, who's just back from Japan, and he bought me back a set of brake pads for the IRSA set of brake pads for the for the old in one which does we'll need them and not I'd actually organise some for the roadworthy, but they turned out they were from an N box, not an N1.
They had different brake pads. Who would have figured and
actually interestingly, the the early model that the JG one and twos and the JG Three's have different brake pads too.
So I'm typically wondering that they're fiddling with them as they go along and improving them and making adjustments and modifications and stuff. So yeah, so I think that's my
car update. That's the most exciting one I
could think of at the moment though, so.
You're almost officially part of the the very illustrious the club which is the three cylinder turbo manual group.
That's great. Yeah.
So you'll look forward to it. You're you'll be you'll be a
founding member to. No, I think you're the founding
member. Are are we gonna have a drag
race between these, you know, three cylinder events?
That would be fun. Actually, that that'd be that'd
be a lot of fun. I think I've got my money on a
particular green one personally. I I would agree, but having said
that, though it's been true, let's just.
Wait and see what level of tune this car is. 860 kilos as what's
the Fiesta weigh? 1200 there.
You go, it's a big, big Gilardi sort of thing, then isn't.
I know, All right. Scotty, we need you to buy GI
Yaris and you know. Yeah, this is everyone heavier
than that like, yeah. So yeah.
They're boomers, aren't they? They're yeah.
They're all the driver adds a adds a lot of weight, but how much does the the the the N1RS weigh like I think.
It's about 868. 60 OK, yeah, yeah, yeah.
It'll be quick. It'll be fun.
We'll see. I think that's a relative term,
but as we've discussed before, I think the I'd far rather be a member of the slow car fast group than the fast car slow group that. Is true, that is true.
It'll be it'll be fun regardless, David Prince and I'm excited to I'm excited to to go for a spin in that one when it's one. Thing I didn't realise until I
did see it in the flesh is that it is very orange so yeah, well, the. Last time we saw one it was in
a. It was in the.
It was a bit dimly lit though. Wasn't it in the in the museum?
It was. It was.
So, so yeah, I already sent me the phone.
I was like, oh, that is orange. So we've got a bright green car
in the in this club and we've got a bright orange car in this club. So it'll be, it'll be
interesting to to to see what next.
You guys have to buy a three cylinder or something next and then join us. Join the join this cult that we
that we've started. And get it in a crazy colour.
Crazy car. Yeah, yeah, crazy colour.
So that would be totally fun. Scotty updates with you man.
I got nothing, nothing. But we know that's not true.
You had a roller coaster weekend.
It was an absolute roller coaster.
Who knew that it could be like that with cars and everything.
It started off with me going to work on the R31.
I thought it'll be fun, you know, working on it and just there's a whole YouTube video on how to change it to manual and I thought great, I'll just slowly pick away at it.
You know, have just take my time, see how it goes.
So I start off working on the 31 got it all jacked up nicely or safe and everything so I can work under there going through the steps nice and easy to follow, which I liked.
He even told you what sockets and stuff.
Oh well. That you need sizes here and
there and other little tips and things like that to help you get things off. And so that's really cool.
So dropped the shifter out of it and removed the lines that were attached to like the to the engine block and everything like that. So that when it comes to
dropping it, that was easy. There's three plugs that are
under the battery. So I removed the black battery
and that and unplugged those three plugs.
I started a bit late, so I was getting to the point.
The next step was to remove the tail shaft.
So I need to, I need to Jack up that back part and I'll probably just sit it on tyres like he did sit it on the spare tyres that I got there because that's the only time I need to work under that side of the car anyway. So I thought, yeah, do that.
Do that the following day or the next day after that, because I still had a bit of time. And then I thought, you know,
I'll, I'll grab a garage creeper because I've just been lying on concrete and sick of doing that. I'm holding it and I'll get one
of the there's two names for it, Pilot Bush or something else that sits in there in the in the gearbox and that where the clutch and everything goes. It's Pilot Bush, or.
Spigot Berry. Yeah, that's the one.
So they got the two names, the spigot or the pilot Bush, and they got that. So you can get that.
So I bought the tools so that I can remove that because I'm not going to I thought I don't want to stuff around and try and pull that out and spend hours and hours.
Well, he. Should've just done the old some
grease and bread trick. He stuffed stuffed the whole pot
full of grease and he put bread on it and then mashed the bread in and pushed himself out. In the video he mentioned that
and talked about that, but he said with the auto Bush that's in there, it sits really, really flat on the back.
OK, that there's not much to actually allow it to work, he said. It would probably would work,
but it's going to take you to have a long time and.
A lot of bread. So I thought no, so you know,
got that tool and everything and then stopped off somewhere else and car park was busy as where I was and where I parked and someone wanted to come in that spot and he was moving up and I'm like, oh, oh, I'll quickly go turn the wheel too early.
Boom, hit the gutter. This is in the blade.
I went, oh, that was a crunching sound reverse back.
I thought, oh, the damage is going to be bad.
Drove off got home. I could see a good crack and you
know, broke into pieces. I was like I was kind of angry
with myself for doing such a silly thing when I just had to not rush, but how well things like that happen.
I thought it's alright, I'll I'll have a look.
I'll I'll tinker away and see the see the damage.
I'm sure I can fix that. It was just minor.
You know, I could get, I could put that piece back on that broke off and just put a bit of bog on there and sand it and paint it. Because it's such a area and
it's on the bottom. You wouldn't even take much
notice. Even if I didn't paint it like
beautifully, you wouldn't really notice.
I thought it'd be fine and then I just was jacking it up.
So have a proper look under there and there's just grease blobs of it everywhere underneath blobs of grease.
I was like, oh crap, like what? What's happened?
Like how, how has this happened? And I was wondering, oh, I don't
know which, which one is it? Is it is CV joint or is it going
to be the power steering? And I thought, oh, I can't power
steering because that's usually going to have fluid in it instead. So I was like, OK, take the
wheel off, have a closer look and there's this perfect good slip straight along it and that's where it's all poured out and like, all right, that needs to be done ASAP because you get grime and stuff in it and there goes the whole shaft and you go shaft thing. And it doesn't take long to get
grime in it and it'll just wreck the earrings.
And yeah, especially with this weather and where I live with trucks. Drive down the road.
It's going to get rocks and dirt and grime in there at no time.
So I was like, OK, I'll have a go.
I'll try and get it fixed that day, which was close to night, You know, it's probably about two or three o'clock.
I thought maybe universal one, but I'll ask if Repco's got anything. So I head back over there, ask
him about it. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
We got two different sizes of universal ones.
Don't have the one for the blade, like, OK, that's all right. I'm sure it's going to be one of
the size. Should be no dramas.
I'll buy both and then whichever 1 doesn't fit I'd written so I'll buy that. Go back home, get ready to
install it. I found you know it wasn't I'd
obviously you take the wheel off it.
You can see where the axle nut is.
The Super weird thing is I had to use a really big massive spanner that said 30 mil on it. Oh yeah.
But I've got a 32 mil socket and it wouldn't fit.
It was too small. So I was absolutely baffled.
And 34 mil was too big. I had a random 34 mil like
massive socket that was too big. And the 32 mil one that I had,
which was the biggest set of a set too small.
So I was like what the hell? So yeah, so I'm using this
massive spanner to loosen it. Got got it off.
You just needed a hammer and just kind of bash it out.
Three bolts under underneath and the whole suspension and that shifted and then moved over and got the shaft there.
Couldn't, couldn't get it off. Like it was stuck in there.
I'm like, Oh my God, how do you get this thing off?
Massive screwdriver. I've got it up on the side
there. I'm hitting, hitting, hitting,
using all my muscles, like just to push and pull to get it to pull out. I finally got it after like I
reckon an hour or so. I'm like, yes, now the rest of
us got to be easy. And then I have a look and I
take the boot off and everything and cut it off.
Take that off. You know, it was easy.
You just had the clamps on it. And then it comes to the top
part and it's got like a the C clips, the clamps there.
Problem with that is it doesn't have, you know, they're meant to have the little circles so you can use the tool to get it off.
These don't have that. So I'm like, well, what are you
meant to use? It's like it's no proper tool
that you could ever use to get this off.
So I had to use a screwdriver to hold it there on one side so it doesn't slip and get plies and try and hold it there and wiggle it to get the plies underneath to lift it with enough and try and pop it out. I finally got that off.
I'm like yes now I can remove the whole weird spider bearing bit, pop take that out, split slide on the new boot, tighten it up and you need a special tool.
So I have to buy the special tool from the clan.
I forgot to mention that bit didn't have a clue how to use this thing. I was like what the hell?
Never seen this thing in my life, this weird tool for this for these clamps. And the first one I did, I
stuffed up. I thread it through into the
wrong little bit so it didn't cut off.
I'm like, Oh my God, what is with this stupid tool?
Figured it out The next time around I'm like, OK, it's actually not too bad. And you thread it through and
that and then you wind it and it gets I don't goes down this weird thing and then you pull the other lever and then it cuts it and cuts it down there. And I did all that.
I was like, OK, good. It's close to 9:00 at night and
I'm still working away. Like you've got a.
Nice new garage to work in. No, this is at my parents place.
I'm stuck there. So I'm I'm outside in a carport
and it's and it's like rain. It's raining, it's freezing
cold. And here I am plugging away and
then I'm trying to shove get this, the shaft in and I'm like, yes, it's in. And then I get because it goes
in and it pops in a little bit. But then obviously you need to
bash in the rest of the way. So I did that, but then I
couldn't get the rest of the suspension over.
It's stretching the, the CV shaft and it's bending it and the CV boot just pops off. I'm like, Oh my God.
So it's not the. One you just put on.
Yeah. So I'm like.
So it's not fitting properly. I understood why because because
of the shape the. Weird.
Tri shape and the boots meant to be a Tri shape, not a circle.
And the universal ones a circle. I'm like Oh my God.
OK, this isn't going to work. It's now 9:30.
I go inside, ask my brother, Take Me Home.
I'm done. That night.
I'm on the computer, I'm having a look what else I could use.
Turns out I could use a Toyota Oreo one, have a look.
Airport West Refco's got one. Fantastic.
Picked that up. Great.
I should be fine. I take that, take that back to
my parents place. OK, Got to take the shaft back
out. Obviously that shaft that I put
in and hammered back in is stuck again.
So I'm back to that, trying to get that out.
So I'm wrestling with that finally, after I can, not as long this time, but probably a good 3035 minutes, it finally gives away and I get that off. I'm like, yes, all right, rest
of it, piece of cake. I already know what to do.
I've got to get that clamp thing off again, pop that off again.
So. So you put the, you put the new
one, and it fits because it's a triangle shape, correct?
So finally I get up to that stage, yes, that one fits and I put down it's just a little bit bigger, but it's fine.
That's. Fine.
Light it on and everything, tighten it all up.
It actually goes on very easily and lined up.
I got the three bolts in underneath, so that's beautiful.
It's done. I felt so accomplished, reversed
out, ready to drive home. And I drive down the street and
it's the most loudest rattling noise of like a ball bearing in a paint can I've ever heard. I'm like, holy crap, is that
loud? Like it's echoing down the
street. I'm like, stuff this, I'm
limping at home. I'm taking it home.
So I'm driving at home. There's people like walking,
walking their dogs and stuff. And they turn around looking at
me and this car's going. Children screaming and running
the other way. It's so loud.
I'm like, I'm done with this. This is ridiculous.
I thought I'd fixed it. So I get it home and I've just I
sat it there. I'm like, I'm going to have to
get someone to come out and have a look like, oh, I'm done.
I'm just like, it has to be something I've messed up with.
So I'm chasing up someone. I come out and have a look and I
tell the guy how I installed and he goes, there's a special tool.
Not if the CV boots, you don't need to pull them apart like that anymore. Because if you pull them apart
like that and you put it in wrong, you can actually wreck the whole thing. And I'm like, oh raps, I've
probably done that. That blows it up or something
and it stretches out. Over the top, right.
Over the top, so he didn't have to go so hardcore like I did.
He goes, yeah, you might have damaged that.
He comes around and drives it and hears the noise.
He goes, Nah, it's definitely not that because it's not making a clunking noise. It's something else.
So he's haven't has a has a look while I'm kind of just driving down the road and he's standing outside having a look.
OK, drive it into the garage. So I'm driving in the garage, he
puts it straight up on Jack stands in like 2 minutes and some special thing that he does with pressing the accelerator and stuff and it just makes the wheels start spinning on their own without touching the accelerator.
And I'm like OK that's cool. And it's making the sound.
He goes underneath and has a look and then I hear the noise, stop, go, stop, go again and then completely stop.
And he got rid of the noise and I'm like, Oh my God, what did you do? And all it was was the backing
plate on the brake disc. It was just hitting the brakes,
the brake disc, the backing plate, because I've been shoving it out of the way and doing so much and just pushing that backing. Yeah.
I. Bent it, yeah.
I bent it on there and I was making the noise and that was that was my whole roller coaster over there.
Yeah, there's just. Oh my God.
And I reckon if I looked at the car again, I would have gone straight to the CV shaft. I wouldn't have looked at
anything like that. So yeah, yeah.
I needed a fresh pair of eyes, I think.
Yeah, So well worth it. The guy was nice.
He owned a blade in the past too, so chatted a little bit.
Sandy. Yeah.
Used to have a blue one. That's cool.
So. While we did have Scotty
successfully fixed the blade issue, unfortunately I suspect that you used all of your time and energy that was, you know, banked for the R31 on this project.
Yeah, exactly right. Yeah, everything.
And just, Oh my God, whatever could go wrong was going wrong.
Like even even when I got the new CV boot right, the first clamp went on well and then the second clamp that cut down to too close to the bottom and loosened and came off and I couldn't use it again so I had to drive down and buy another one. Like, Oh my God.
It's just didn't want me to. Fix this thing.
Such a drainer. Well.
It shows that you did it right. You just, you did something you
didn't realise that happened. And and that's, that's quite
cool. I remember my, my mechanic, he,
he had a customer come back and, and just after getting, getting some brakes done and he's like, it's making like a, like a, like a noise and he has a look and, and I was like, I guarantee it'll be the backing plate. And he and he, he got an
extension like a, like a, you know, a ratcheted extension and pushed it. You could feel where the, where
it was hitting and just tapped it and then pushed it back.
And then that was it. It was, it was like the magic,
like he didn't even take the wheel off.
He was just like straight through the spoke.
Nice. One touch and he's like, oh,
you're right to go. And he's like, Are you sure?
He's like, Yep. And he's like, oh, thank you.
So, so that it's those, those backing plates.
We're also joined by Rob and Debbie who are driving currently. But I we'll have to, we'll have
to see where they're at. How are you guys?
I think I just took up your whole show.
No, it's fine. We're on.
We're just driving down Sunshine Ave in our electric vehicle.
It's so quiet, Very. Quiet.
Before we try, zoom in the Tesla.
But it doesn't. Work the The video won't work
when you're driving, it's only only works when you stop.
Oh. OK, Yeah.
So stupid. Safety.
So it's got a built in camera so you can in the screen I'm assuming? Yeah, So there's a, it is a, a
camera interior looking at the interior for security should someone break in or set, set off the century mode for whatever.
It's. For so you can look inside your
car if you've got a dog. Indeed, put in dog mode.
You know, call your car down and check your dog while you're in the shops. Stuff like that.
So Rob's living in like 2050 while while we're fixing broken blades. Yeah.
So you just that's us pretty much I've been, you know, putting you onto marketplace for scans, but they were sold.
Yeah, there was there's a scan that came up.
Was it like was it yesterday or today?
And I want to check it like he sent me, he sent me this link and then I'm going to clicked on it and it was really gone.
I was like, oh damn was. That the.
White one with the sticker on the back window.
I think it was, yeah. Yeah, so that was that used to
belong to a club member and it he put it around the club and and no one jumped on it in the club, which was a bit silly, but who has space? That's the thing.
And Hodwell bought it because they they, they bought a scampter and then was restoring it.
So they bought it for parts. But yes, I I don't know why
whether they didn't need it, but it was complete still.
Yeah. Very expensive at $500.00 but
yeah, no screaming would have broken the bank.
Should have bought it. Should have bought it Should.
Have bought it. And I've been looking at Magnus.
There's a real nice Magna up in Lakes Entrance for $4500 negotiable with 76,000 kilometres on it.
What? Year.
It's 89 I think it was. OK.
Yeah. Nice blue kind.
Sure it looks Immaculate. It's like I said, it's got
original 76,000 kilometres and it looks like AP play.
The second owner looks like they got it from the grandparents or something. Yeah.
Yeah, and. It wasn't, it wasn't good enough
because because all these mates are wanting to, so why are you driving this all back now? Probably.
Obviously there's no that Magna Fest next year.
Yeah, he does. Obviously not.
Send us the link Rob. Well, I'll be keen to see that
chat updates with you man. Updates with me.
I think last time I talked about getting the brakes sorted on the Civic and I had everything like you know, bolted up, buttoned up and everything. And after after the drive on
Sunday I came home and I thought I'm going to just re bleed all the brakes because I hadn't done the rears yet.
So I just went all around again, did everything.
I had this like one man bleeder kit, which was very handy actually and can't believe it worked.
But yeah, it was good. So got all that done.
Went for it's like proper maiden drive and previously I had this like I just rolled it up and down the driveway a couple of times. I was getting this grinding
sound, couldn't pinpoint what it was, but I thought much like Scotty, it was the backing plate.
There was the dust, the dust cover.
I was fouling on the rotor. And I thought, Oh yeah, that's
all right, I'll chop that off and I'll just make a little like, you know, hole. So there's it's not, that's not
an issue anymore. So I did that and then, yeah, so
I went, I went for its first drive and store enough.
It's that that grinding, awful grinding is still there.
And I couldn't pinpoint what it was.
And so I ended up taking to a friend's Petter's shop in Preston and he had a quick look and he was kind of like, man, you know, I don't know much about Honda's, but obviously these parts that you put on the summing is fouling.
And sure enough, it was the lower control arm ball joint.
The bolt comes through the ball joint.
Sorry, it comes through the control arm.
It was coming out enough of an angle to just completely rub on the back of the rotor. So I was just gouging into a
rotor the entire time. And so I'm down a rotor that
that's for sure. You know, it is what it is.
It's not that expensive, but I've got more of an issue where something in the geometry is off.
And so far I can't, I can't use the, the brakes, the, the knuckles and all that stuff at the moment.
So I've I've got a bit of a promo to do to figure out why.
And I think the only remaining part that's still civic in the front is the lower control arm. So I think I need a Integra like
ADC integra control arm to go in there.
And hopefully that will line up all of the geometry so that, you know, the, the rider is sitting far out enough from the control arm and the ball joint where it is.
But yeah, that's sort of yet to be worked out.
I still have to do a bit of homework to see if the control arms even fit. Given that it's an EGDC, the
fronts are very similar. So I'm, you know, I'm kind of
guessing it. Well, but yeah, I, I, I have to
sort of look into it. So while I thought I had a
pretty big win with the price, turns out, no, it's a bit of a, you know, more work required type thing.
So yeah, I didn't really didn't foresee that one coming.
I had other issues like, you know, rotor clearance on the calliper or the calliper clearance on the wheels, etcetera. Like that was all sort of things
that I saw. That was the yeah, I anticipated
and then also found that the, the the Integra knuckles would fix that, right. And yeah, this one just, yeah,
really threw me off. And the guy Pettis was like,
yeah, I don't know why it's doing that sort of thing.
I've gotten in contact with a couple of guys who are sort of building Hondas. And there's there's one of the
guys in the Nuggets group who I'm not sure if I don't think he races his car in it, but he has an EG Civic with an Integra like suspension in it. So he's going to be the best
person to sort of kick his brain on and see see what he thinks it is. And yeah, let's I'm going to try
and get my hands on yeah, so some lower control arms and throw those in and hopefully that will that will do it.
If not, then I'm yeah, I'm just going to have to then pull out of the next race coming out, which is this Sunday, which doesn't leave me a lot of room. So yeah, see how we go.
I apart from that, I haven't really done much.
I've just watched the I-30 after that drive on Sunday because it got absolutely belted with mud. Yeah.
It was crazy. And apart from that, yeah.
That that's that's about it with me, yeah.
Here's an idea, Chad. If you don't make it with the
Civic, keep your position. Just go with the I-30 and have
some fun. I.
Was thinking about that. I'm just, I'm just really
concerned about, you know, a total warranty on the.
Race track, Come on. Yeah.
I know, I know. It's just it is a really, it's a
fast car and I, I don't trust my skills enough yet in that car to go on the track. Civic fine.
It is like basically a toy, right?
But the I-30 is like a whole other animal.
So look, if anything, if I can't take the Civic, I'm going to go with the Sylvia. Sylvia is pretty much good to
go, and it's probably no faster than the Civic anyway, so we'll see. Watch this place.
Where's the round on Sunday? Bradford.
OK, Yeah. The motorcycle complex, yeah.
So it's a good track that doesn't get very fast, which is good. But yeah, there's there's a bit
of yeah, there's some bits where you can come off pretty easily, especially on the end of the straight and then off one of the SS. So that could be concerning if
it's an expensive car, Yeah. So we'll see how we go.
No. Place for you.
Not a lot happened except for during the drive day.
Mr. David Prince kindly took my my glove box away.
My glove box that was. That was a broken by one Maddie
Ji. Didn't I don't hold it.
Against you because you were helping me out at the time but you did break it thankfully there's a little I guess hook part that like latches onto a little nubbin and then allows the glove box to you know tilt on out it kind of leans to one side now, hopefully with the magic hands of Mr. David Prince,
the interior God he is you know we'll.
Modest touch. We'll get that fixed.
Or, as as David put it, made less shit.
Yes, that's my area of speciality.
It was pointed out to me by a service manager at a workshop I do a lot of work for. He asked me one day if I could
do that to one of his cars. I said yes I could.
That's that's I can work within those parameters.
Thank you. Well, to.
Be fair. Not everything has to, you know,
be almost brand new or close to brand new, you know?
Yeah, I've got to say that I have never pulled an MX5 gearbox out. I mean literally it took oh what
3 seconds probably to do that. That's that to me that you know,
some people say, oh what? That's just cheap rubbish.
To me that's perfect engineering.
I mean the fact it's broken was not the cars fault but it's such a. Everybody.
Everybody's pointing fingers, are they?
Jeez, David. No, no, no, no, but.
But it's such a simple way of fastening the glove box in with some cars. You see how the engineering goes
to to to take that part out. I mean, you're gonna.
Unscrew that and then unclip that, yeah.
Take off the lower panel and no, no, it's just simple.
You just pop that little clip out and then slide it across and it's out. That's exactly how the the
lasers one is. It's the exact same setup as
the. OK, the little.
Tab at the end like the little you know and it's got the slide in part first and it's exactly the same and it's got and you bend the inside of the of the box to for the for the two top two tubs and then they they pop out.
Yeah, it's just it's, it's a great.
Board One. I know because, yeah, it's
because it's because it's got the badge.
Yeah, the it's got, it's got the the badge.
Well. We know where lasers originated
from, so I mean, it's hardly surprising that it's a similar operation, isn't it? Beautiful.
Tough. Factories.
They are. They are I'm.
Just on that, can I just add one thing in?
I was, I was on holidays last week as some that's why I wasn't on the podcast. But while I was away, I was
sitting at a table with a, a family and the old bloke sitting next to me was 96 years of age, loveliest old bloke, absolutely on the ball. And he was a Mazda dealership
during the 70s and 80s and 90s. He he owned a dealership in
Sydney. It's now Brookvale Mazda and
this it was brilliant. And, and when his, his kids just
rolled their eyes when we started talking because we thought they said, oh, well, let you know he's right now.
And I was, and as my wife did, you know, when she did, Oh, well, David's right too, you know, and it was fascinating.
He, he was and, and I won't bore you with all everything we discussed, but two takeaways. His favourite Mazda was the
R-100, the first sort of Rotary coupe that was sold here, which was basically based on the 1200 coupe, now with a lot.
Of money, if you could. Find one like 100K plus.
But he, he said they were brilliant cars and his next favourite car was the first generation RX7.
And he, he, he, he knew all about the development of them through from, you know, from Japan and, and, and how they, you know, they Mazda bought Porsches and actually pulled them apart and then value engineered all the parts for them to see. You know, how can we, you know,
prove on this part and improve on that part?
I mean, I know the Rotary RX7 was front engine, rear wheel drive, not rear engine, rear wheel drive.
But just from a quality point of view is one of the top sports cars in the world. And it was just fascinating
talking to him. They sponsored a car at Bathurst
in the 70s so it was, it was, it was a very unexpected encounter and to someone of that age to be as on the ball as he was, it was just, it was really, really lovely experience so.
You don't, you don't get, you don't get stories like that anymore. Do you Like, like, and, and it's
hard to, you know, well, that generation of people like, you know, and, and a lot of them are, you know, you know, are getting up there in age like they've got so much history.
That's just, you know, like you, just, you just, and that's a thing I wanted to talk about because.
And there's so much history and, and stuff and stories and, and, and great things that you hear from, from certain people, you know, that you just, you just wouldn't, you wouldn't find now, you know, and, and that's, that's an that's another one of those incredible, you know, moments where, where you, where you see, where, where you just bumped into somebody at a, at a, you know, at a, on a holiday and, and there you go.
You know, it's, it's pretty, it's pretty bloody amazing.
It was awesome. It was awesome.
Really added, added to the enjoyment of the holiday.
And here he is. You know, it was freezing cold
where we were and he had his, you know, his wind jacket on and had Mazda sports across the heart, you know, across the front of it. And I had my red Honda jacket
that had Honda record. I had to get a photo of the side
by side, you know? So same passion, different,
different expression, different. Expression.
He would have been like, he's he's my mortal enemies.
Back in the 70s, I think probably yes, but not so much now. Not.
So much now definitely not it reminds you of a story that my uncle told me and he, he, he had a, he had a mate who had a, an XW Fairmont 351 and, and he's, and that guy's best mate had a genuine GTHO phase three. And the basically the user told
me they used to do illegal drag racing and, and they used to you know, back in the, in the, in the day in the country when these cars were still relatively new.
And he's like when he used to race this, this, you know, this GT, the GT would, there would be a hill in it and but Tom, he'd catch him by the time he'd, he'd hit the hill in the, in the Fairmont, the, the GT was over the other hill and you couldn't see him. But what happened was Ford had
put a whole bunch of race engines in, in these, you know, these X, YS and then, you know, back in the day and.
It didn't take long for that motor just to just to stuff up because it wasn't meant for, it wasn't meant for, you know, for everyday use. It was a it was, it was a proper
competition engine, which which he found out later on.
So Ford put another motor in for him.
And then they, they did the same drag race and it just wasn't the same. And when the time he got over
the first deal, he was still, he was still able to see him.
So he so it's it's like stories like that where like, you know, they're putting race engines in, in normal people's cars, just stuff like that, like that, that that is all going to be, you know, kind of like lost stories of, of, of yesteryear where, you know, engineering was completely different.
Exactly right. What about you guys?
Any stories have you heard from like from other people that have been like, wow, that that's a cool story?
Like I wouldn't have, I wouldn't have had that happen.
I guess I've got one with my dad.
He's not. He doesn't do anything with cars
anymore. But back in the day he had a
Kingswood and went to a factory. I'm not sure 100%, but anyway,
it was a factory, maybe owned by friends or something like that.
And in that same day they dropped a big three 51350 Chevy in it. Yeah, not 351 just because
you're talking about it Chevy in it.
And it was straight piped and everything, so.
And yeah, no cats or anything back then.
And that's what he drove. Mum said that when she was
sitting there and he floors it, you could see the petrol gauge go Boo. You could watch the drop down.
And there used to be a spot somewhere in Bendigo that lined up to be, you know, like a quarter mile stretch.
And that's where they used to kind of go and illegally take a crack and drag race there. And so thought that's pretty
cool. I mean, to do that and drop one
of those in in just a day and then off they go, yeah.
It would have been so simple. I mean simple in terms of you
know like mechanical and not not a lot of things to convert over.
Yeah, yeah. And then there's just, you know,
some of the cars that I own, like my uncle used to have ASLR 5000 still got a picture of that when he had one of those.
And then one of my other uncles that I see more he, you know, he used to have a, a cobra there. XXC.
Cobra. XC, I'd say XC, Cobra, Monaro's,
he had all the good high powered cars back in the day.
So just all that kind of cool stuff you just don't hear about anymore. Yeah, I, I don't know.
I mean, I've got a lot of stories, but it's I don't know if they're interesting enough. There was a time mate had a
beautiful XC coupe and he blew up the gearbox on it or something. So he had these big fat 12 inch
tyres and we, you know, with Mickey Thompson's on it or where they were with 12 slaughters. So we had decided to put it on
the back of the P-76 and believe it or not it fits the tyres.
So here we are cruising up and down Swanston St, around town and all over the place and I don't think I was old enough to drive even. But my mate was driving my car,
started to do AAU turn and plant it and as he did that it actually left me spider gears all the way down the road.
It blew up me, yes. In the middle of the city.
Here we were trying to get a, you know, a taxi back home, then get the other car, get a trailer, tow the car home.
Then I spent the whole weekend swapping diffs over.
So we. Used to have a lot of fun like
that, you know, mucking around with our cars and my mates with his XYGT. He's he's, he tells me stories
all the time about blowing up diffs and losing his licence the first week he had his licence when he driving the GT around the XYGT. You would expect that wouldn't
you? Pretty.
Much. Yeah.
Another mate of mine had a fantastic looking Commodore, just a VB Commodore with the Brockie kid on it. 6.
Drag ways on, it looked good, but he always gets, it was like a police magnet back in those days.
And he was almost 30 years old before he got his full licence.
Well, you know, so we used to get pulled over all the time.
Every time we we went somewhere he'd be they, they knew him, they could see him coming from a mile away, you know.
So, yeah. So we used to have a lot of fun
going to Cherry Lane and Pipes Rd with our cars and watching all the fast, fast cars dragging up and down the road where the police will block it off and they'll be stuck there all night getting Canaries put on our cars.
You know, people trying to get away in the paddocks and, and things like that. It was just amazing that, you
know, what we used to sort of do back in those days, we used to, you know, do runners from the police if we could.
If you could. But yeah, so you know.
You've just reminded me of a story, Rob.
I mean, I, I, I kind of grew up with his dad bought a brand new back in the day VL Commodore, just executive poverty pack, you know, exec gold on beige interior.
I don't know. I don't know what the exact name
of the, of that colour would be called.
Anyway, it was just his daily like driver.
It was his, you know, his dad's company car and he bought it new and he and he, he gave it to his wife.
And when he got AVX Berliner, which was his, which was his next car, which, which he still has.
And Lawrence is the one that got the got the VL.
He's, he's the 1st of his three, two brothers to, to, to drive.
And, and he, he's not into cars at all.
Like in the, in the slightest. Like he's, he's like, it's a
cars a tool. He gets me from A to B and
that's all I care about you. You might know him, Scotty
Lawrence Sponosi. He we used to work with him at
Target and, and Yep, Yep. Anyway, he he's like without
fail, every day I'd be getting pulled over and I'd search my car and, you know, and they'd be like, is it a turbo?
He's like, no, it's not a turbo. He's like, I don't even know
what the hell a turbo was when, you know, it was it was just one of those he's just not into cars.
And you know, again, owning, owning this, this VL, which was, and it was full of rust, like the back.
We know they were rusted there. And so, yeah, it was just an
interesting, it was an interesting story that that he's like, here I am driving this car that apparently everybody wants.
It's been broken into numerous times.
I've tried to steal it. And I'm like, at the end, I'm
like, I kind of wanted to go on because it was a hassle driving interview. I, I drove to uni to be getting
pulled over driving. How are we being pulled over?
I'd be, you know, and I'm not, I'm just, you know, putting it around. And he's like, he's like when
the cops would actually come up and have a look and see how much of a bad, you know, quality example had Dentsel over.
It was just, it was just a title car.
He was like, they're like, oh, OK, well, he's not, he's obviously not into, into, into anything, anything sinister, like he's letting go. But he's like, it was just a
pain. They were just constantly
getting pulled over in a, in a, in a car that was considered like, you know, a hot car. And and then I explained to him
the whole, you know, VLC and he's like, well, it kind of makes sense If if those people own those cars, I understand why I'll be getting getting pulled over.
But he's like, yeah, young, youngish guy in AVL getting pulled over. Not a good, not a fun time.
What about you, Elementary? Any funny like older older
stories? No, because I think a lot of the
the old stories I have are from usually, you know, you guys, you know, like Rob's got probably some some of the coolest stories around and David as well, because you guys lived in a time where you could get away with more, let's just say.
Get away with more. And people have better and
better imaginations, I think. You know.
And our day, you know, and that was.
Real driving, wasn't it, Rob? Yeah, it was, yeah.
No control, no ABS, the stability stuff, it's.
Just a. And a key Bob.
Rob Rob told us some stories on the drive day that was so funny.
That was just, I'm like, how? Like it was a different time it.
Was a very different. Time you couldn't get away with
any of that these days, but it was yeah, I, I, I, I actually love hearing stories like that because it's, you know, they're, they make you remiss. That would have been so cool.
Imagine like what? And I then I like to think
imagine what was on the road at that time.
Like there would have been, you know, Sunbirds, which wasn't a good car, but like, you would have seen them and Toranas and, and, you know, early, you know, early 32 threes and, and, you know, lots of escorts and stuff still.
Like there would have been such cool, you know, cool cars that that would have been taken for granted back there.
But now it's like, oh, wow. Like, you know, yeah, I'm up to
escort. On Facebook often, you know,
pages early Melbourne or you know, St seats from the 70s or 80s and the variety of colours in the of cars and stuff, you know that it's really sanitised now.
I mean, it's rare to see a bright car.
That's why the M1's going to stand out so much.
But you know, silver and white and black and you know, I think Audis sell in their colour range.
They've got like 70% of them are grey, like 70% of the colours available. They've got seven different,
different greys, dolphin grey, seal grey, agate grey, midnight grey, you know, like all, it's like it's 50.
Shades of Grey 50. Shades of Grey.
It's like walking into a black and white movie when you walk into the showroom. It's nuts.
You know, I'm up with a bit of and Ben's people will tell you they always, if the customers don't know what colour they'll buy, they say we'll buy silver because it's always, you know, always it's easy to clean and it's always going to be, you know, the resale's good on them and all that sort of thing.
So you end up with or else people are, oh, I've got to have a black one. You know, I love black.
Yeah. OK, that's appalling to look
after. But, you know, go do do what you
like sort of thing. And.
And they, yeah, they sell black and silver, black and silver, black and silver, anything a departure from that's unusual, really. Like.
When people go to buy Fiesta STS, you know, and end up with with Mazda 3 Green and and you know, fall over themselves going well, it's amazing. It does look amazing.
It is a it is a good car. And when I was back there, I
think I mentioned this the other the other week getting a service, they were all like, oh, that that's they, they knew my name. Like that's match for SRS
because it's the only bright green car that they've had in, in there forever. So, and the guy, I told him to
be able to, he's like, oh, I love when your car's back.
It's yeah, it's so it's so cool. But it's, it's one of those,
yeah. It's one of those things like I
drove past an Audi dealership in Geelong recently on Saturday and they had a, is it an RSQ 3? Is that there, is that there?
Like they're, they're, you know, crazy, you know, small SUV thing. And it was that bright green
that they've got. And I'm like, wow, an Audi in a
colour like that's. How?
How unusual. And stuff's like if your car was
bad, that's appalling in terms of, but she's come around to the to the, to the metre and she's like, I actually like this colour now. But but she's like that green is
just like Leroy Kermit Green. I'm like, I'm like, that's the
colour of car. I came home in from the
hospital. Thank you very much.
Yeah, Kermit Green Gemini my. Wife had one too was.
It was it Kermit Green? We call it Kermit.
That was its nickname, Kermy. Kermy, there you go.
Look at. That Rob, that's something else
we've got in common. Wife's that had green Geminis.
Geminis. She had 4 speed on the floor.
Yeah, that's the TC70C. Oh, oh, was Rob.
She had her Gemini for ages, didn't she?
She did. She did several head, several
heads or head gaskets later and or clutches and and whatnot, but she still had it for a while, Yeah.
It's yeah, I remember, I remember when we my dad, my dad used to work at Busy Recycling and which is quite funny, but that's another story for another day.
That's not for on air. Anyway, he was it was a it was
pouring down with rains this one afternoon.
He was coming home from from work and he's leaving the he's leaving the, the, the estate where you know, like they will, you know, The thing is and he couldn't see barely anything in front of him. He's got his wipes going.
All of a sudden garbage truck hanging to the back of the garbage truck. He goes in the Gemini, he brings
it home and always probably like 4 at the time of three or four.
And, and mum's like, okay, now when dad comes home, because I usually run out to see the car, just just wait till he comes inside and, and you know, and I'm like, why?
She's like, oh, don't worry. Because you know, I'd be
devastated seeing, seeing the car crashed and, and sure enough, I ran out the door and the whole front end was all caved in and, and I was just bawling.
I'm like, what did you do to curve it?
What did you do to curve it? Killed curve it.
You killed curve it Anyway, they, they told me it's like when it's like when you take a, when you take a dog to go get put down. You know, we've, we've, we've
taken it to the farm. So they, they, they had a, they
had a, they had a, they had a guy come look at the car and bought it for scrap, which I didn't know until years later who, who had another him a green Gemini.
And his one was all done up. I remember him picking it up
with his friend and Oh no, I was dropping it off.
And I went in the last, in the last drive in, in the Kermit.
And he's like, yeah, I'll look after it.
And then Dad's like, no, he used it for parts later on.
And it was just like, oh, you know, he was told he was going to fix it and, and make it all, make it all better.
But yeah, it was it was one of those stories that yeah, that that always got me. But.
It's funny, Cass. Cass's attracted other cars
actually bit into the rear. It got slammed into two or three
or at least twice, if not three times, but not just a little bit of a tap. It caved the boot back to the
windscreen both times and they fixed it both times.
It was never quite the same after that, but it.
Yeah, yeah, it had two. How?
Was that David? This was ATC Gemini.
Oh, wow. OK, Yeah.
Yeah, can. I just say I bought the
brightest, greenest car I could buy and you and you and Cath's had, you know, a bright green Gemini and still people hit us.
It must. The colour must be an optical
illusion. I know.
I know. No.
Figure like, it's not like you couldn't see it.
That's the thing. You're.
Attracted to it, yeah, yeah, yeah, that's.
Right, it's into the. Nagel sweep when you park it
there. Blends in.
Yeah. Oh yeah, that makes makes me
laugh. Any other stories gentlemen
before we get to the quiz? We didn't get your car updates,
Maddie. Oh yeah, really nothing in my
end. I was just going to talk about
our drive there actually before. And what about what about a big
anniversary for the laser? Oh yes, sorry, yes slap on the
wrist Matthew, how could you could you stuff that up lazy hit 333,333 the other day. So, so the six threes in a row
and I was like, you know, it's, it's one of those things you, you pull over, you got to take a photo that that's just, that's just how that works. And and then as I was, I was, I
was on my way to see a mate for lunch that day and it happened on the way and I'm parking up and I'll hop out of the car and I see this other, I see there's another black SR2 pulls in and it's battered, like every panel is destroyed black as well.
And like a party went to sit up and say, Hey, cool car.
And I was like, oh, you're obviously not taking care of it.
So I was like, no, I saw something.
Sit, sit back down. We are not the same.
We are not the same. I'm just like, wow, I wonder how
many KS that one's got. Yeah.
The real kick is it's probably done 145,000. 1000 Yeah, yeah, I
mean, it was batted the the whole front end was batted.
The the, the the lights were I've never seen yellowed lights like this before like that. Would it was just like someone
someone who just painted them yellow like that would that would that yellowed? You should have asked me 500
bucks for it. Hearts darts go.
No. I, I felt bad because it was,
they had learner plates on it and, and the lady and her mum were getting out of the car and, and I was like, Oh, I, I, I should have offered you because it's not the, it's not the body kit, but the body kit was a hammered, but it still had it.
But anyway, just missed out on that one, but yeah, you should.
Have shamed on me like look what you did to this beautiful car.
Look what? It could be look at it could
just just two cars down. Look what it could be like I've.
Taken a few hands, yeah. But yeah, there it's yeah, that
was a big milestone for the laser.
I want to hit 350 ish by the start of next year and if I can get to 375 or 380 by the end of next year, because it'll be by that time it'd be on club plates.
It'll be it'll be a good innings for it to, to retire to club plates on I think. But I, I have to ask Mr. David
Prince if it'll be allowed in the Honda Club because I, I do own a Honda. That's.
As long as you've got a Honda and club plates already, you can have something in some. That that that would be, that
would be ideal. But I think that's, that's it.
I, I drove that on the I we'll talk about, I'll drive that before we get to the caucus day before Scotty and I went back to work. So we're like, well, let's do a
drive day. Chad's idea originally Chad's
like, we wanted to do a drive there.
I'm like, yes, we need to do one of those.
I rocked up in the laser. Chad was in the I-30, Rob in the
Mustang and Al, I'm in the MX5. We all went up to pick up
Scotty, whose car was broken. So we, we, we picked up Scotty
and then we went through some, some nice backgrounds all the way up to Macedon, drove up the, up the hill all the way to the top of the Macedon and went up and went for a walk.
My goodness, it was cold that day.
Went to the walked to the memorial across Allen's like, was it 400? He's like, is I'm going to pay
for this? I'm here for.
Exercise. I work hard at work.
You know, real man's show. So we, we woke up and, and then
Rob's telling us some, some fantastic stories of, of driving back in back in a better time. Someone said.
We, we didn't drive down the hill and my car was warm going up the hill, but then coming down the hill, I just watched my temperature just go down because it was like 2° and, and I wasn't under any load. And you know, I'm like, oh jeez,
that's, I've never seen that happen before.
Pull into the Mason Hotel. David's there in the Volkswagen
Caddy GTI and, and we, we catch up for a beer and lunch and it was, it was a, it was a lovely afternoon.
I thought, yeah, it was good to have a chat and discuss Magna Fest, which which will be, which will be happening 2025.
Watch this space as we as we that's happening so we'll have to buy magnets and just not telling not telling each other what we're buying. Just wrap up with it and there
it is. There we.
Go, let's go. On Oh, OK.
It's an advance. Oh jeez, TR advance.
Six advance too. You can tell.
See the V6 boot badge on the tunnel on the boot.
How many? Keys are there 75,000. 75 or
76,000. That's a good car for four
grand. Wow, Eddie, look.
How? Clean it is.
Oh, that is clean. Yeah, that's that's a tidy car.
Look at the upholstery. It's mint.
No on Saturday. See, it's got a bit of a sort of
song, yeah. They they did tend to do that.
It's. Not the fabric that comes
somebody. 'S ass groove is.
That it's an ass groove. Somebody's look at the boot.
It's mint. No one's ever put anything in
there. They have a Prince.
I know it's not a waggon, but that's a bit of you.
No, it's, it needs to be a waggon.
I'm sorry. I've got, I've got, I've got to
be specific. I've got to, I've got to hold
out. On the lookout for a waggon
then, are we? Rob, I think, I think you and I
should go down and have a look at that car.
I think we should go down. Yeah, the.
Waggon there. Too.
Too new. Yeah.
So yeah, it was a good day on drive.
At 2 new. On good day on the Sunday and I
really enjoyed it. And yeah, we left us a.
Bit wet. And you know, like I said, you
tell Rob's from a different time, a braver time, given he was still having a spirited drive in the Mustang.
That, and that's with traction control.
Imagine if I took it off. It would have mustanged and
then, yeah. You were disappearing.
You were just gone. It.
It doesn't matter that that I don't think the traction control works in it. I really I really believe it.
There isn't any. You must be must be
disconnected. Oh, wait.
It's just for. Compliance.
It's just for compliance, correct?
Yeah, it's, it's meant to work. Once the computer's plugged in,
it was like. Dragon Drill was working, but I
wasn't letting my foot off either.
All right, dude, time for the quiz.
Let's let's get into it. Alan, the other side of the of
the table. Prepare.
To lose, prepare to lose. Alan's no cheating, Alan.
So we've got Alan playing, we've got David playing, we've got Scott playing, we've got Chad playing, and we've got Rob playing tonight for the illustrious title of black of bragging rights. So Alan's over there, just so
you know, guys, there he is. He's having a yawn currently.
Let's begin the car quiz, gentlemen.
Question one which car brand was the first to have active aero on one of their cars? Scott Scott.
Is it the Mitsubishi 3000GT? Incorrect, David.
If you give me the brand, I'll I'll give you the point.
Nissan. Nissan is absolutely correct
David. Well done.
Bonus question on what model Allen got in there.
It was GTF. She was not a GTR, wasn't it?
Looks like Chad Chad Chad Chad Chad R31 or DR30.
Maybe one of those had the active front spoiler.
I'm gonna need an answer, Chad. Dr 30.
Scott. Incorrect.
Scott. Scott.
So R 31. It is an R31.
It is a front. The front Spoiler front.
Spoiler well done. How active was it it?
Was active the first kite ever to have active active arrow of all time? Pretty crazy.
Right back in the in the in the 80s did.
It do coping down. Yeah, it it just it like the
lift spoiler came out like that was it's pretty cool.
It's, I remember the ad for it that I've seen it a few times and then there's like six of them lined up and then they pressed the button the same time.
Like they just put their chin spoilers out and said so cool.
Can I just buddy with the theme of stories for the night?
I was in a Mercedes dealership not long ago doing some work on a on an LGL. No on electric.
I'm sorry they all blew the big big 1G.
GLE. GLE maybe, yes, yeah.
And it was parked really close to one.
I'd done the door trim on the other side and the guy jumped into the movie. I said, well just be careful,
it's really close. I thought, oh, he said don't
worry. He said this car has four wheel
steering. I said, oh really?
Oh wow, that's cool. I said that's I don't know.
I think I said, oh that's cute. I said I had a Honda that had it
in 1988. I wasn't impressed.
Active Hero on a on a Nissan and four wheel steering on 4.
Wheel steering and and that four wheel steering beak takes through turbo and Mr too and. True.
Question two, how you drive is a company that was founded in what country alum, alum the. United States.
Incorrect, Rob got in the next. New Zealand.
Incorrect. Who was Rob It?
Was England. Yeah.
Rob next. Sorry.
So Rob Bob was that? I said England.
England is correct, Rob. Well done.
All right, so score check, David.
One, Scotty one, Rob, one. Question 3.
The new Honda Prelude has been officially announced.
What form of power up train will it have?
Scott's hybrid. Hybrid.
Well done, Scotty. We'll have a hybrid.
Question four. What iconic Ford nameplate has
been reintroduced this week, David?
Capri, Capri. And it's not a Capri.
It's not a Capri bonus. Well, it's the bonus question.
Why are people so unhappy about the new Capri?
David. David.
Because it's an SUV. It's an.
SUV, electric crossover thing. Well, well, everyone's just like
you don't like you don't shit on a nameplate like that.
That is, that is, you just don't do that.
They did that in the 80s and it didn't work then, yeah.
I'm gonna search for them. I don't know why.
Maybe it's 'cause, maybe it's 'cause I'm an idiot, but I don't. I don't know.
I'm I'm with you, but a lot of people weren't happy that the little convertible made of broad meadows that sold in America, thousands more than have sold here, was called Capri Capri.
Correct. There is a there is a left hand
driver on the left hooker in in Geelong at the Oh really?
Yeah, there is. Wow.
It's it's a it's a Mercury Capri.
Yeah, sure. Sure, Yeah, and that's not an
airbag, because evidently Australians would.
Yeah, that. Yes, you're right.
There was never a Capri sold in Australia with an airbag.
Everyone that went to America had an airbag.
Question 5 The 90s movie Bad Boys.
The first one saw them use what generation Porsche 9/11 got.
Judd. Scott got in there. 9:30.
Incorrect. Chad was next. 993.
Incorrect. David, 992.
Incorrect, David. Was it the is it the G60?
They call it the 80s. Nine eleven.
Yeah. I need the the code if possible
David Prince. Code what was 911 SC.
Incorrect, there was a 9/11 turbo but which which model?
Rob KK. I thought it was a 911 but no.
Yeah, it's it's, it was a 964 generation 11 turbo. 90s, of
course. Yeah.
Yeah. Bonus question, why was this car
so unique for a movie car? Specifically that exact car.
Being in America, was it converted to automatic?
No, no, it was a manual. It was definitely a manual.
That's incorrect, Chad. Is it Will Smith's car or
something? You're on the right track.
But no, incorrect. No, Alan, it was.
Owned by the director, it. Was owned by the director.
Well done. You're on the board, Alan.
Now, the funny story behind that car is so they asked Porsche to to use one for the movie and Porsche was kind of in at that time in a bit of a financial state and they couldn't afford to give them one in case you got wrecked in the movie.
So it was Michael Bay. I was the director of the of the
first two. I think I was like, screw it,
I've got one, let's just use my car.
So they used his exact car for all the stands for everything.
They only had the one car and that's the one they actually used. And he sold it to his friend a
few years later for about 60 grand that recently sold for $1.3 million. Wow.
I know and know Bad Boys 2. The dash of the Porsche gets
shot up, no? It's a it's a 550 Marinello, is
it? Yeah.
He gets a Ferrari in the second one.
Yeah, he. Tries to get reimbursed for the
the the that it would. So there's a bit of movie trivia
for you guys. They they only, it just shows
car company. It just shows movie companies
for the Fast and Furious. If you're listening, you'd have
to buy 600 of the one car and blow them all up.
You can just use one car, provided you could take care of it. It'll do the movie.
Produces the jigs it has. Have you seen?
Yeah, take note. Absolutely.
Did you see the? Top Gear episode where they try
to make a movie. Yeah, and got the.
Fake St in there, yeah. And the Jaguar, he's like
caravan home. And then it's the wrong one.
Yeah. He tears up the whole like,
yeah. Next question.
Question 6 Toyota has announced they are no longer selling in the Land Cruiser 79 or 70 series with the What Engine Album?
Album got in. There, damn it, they're no
longer selling it with the A. Smaller engine buzzed out.
Yeah, Rob was next. Look, I don't add the actual
code of it, it's just they're not selling the V8 anymore.
That is correct. They're not selling the V8.
They're not selling the V8. I'm all done.
Really. Yep, the no more diesel V8
diesel V8 because they they wanted they wanted to make the greenies happy. Question 7.
Holden used a a dog in there TS Astra turbo ad back in the earth. Alan, Alan.
How's Bulldog? Oh, incorrect.
There's a. Well, whatever it.
Looks like a bulldog. The face was stretched back and
forth. Frenchy mine.
What type of dog was it? There's a French bulldog, Rob.
Rob was next. There's a French bulldog.
Was it a pug? It wasn't a pug.
The French bull. Look down.
It wasn't It wasn't a Frenchie. Rob, I'm.
Sure, it was a kelpie. It wasn't a kelpie.
Scott. Scott.
It's one of those. It was one of the Roly Poly face
dogs. Yeah, what is that dog called?
Scotty. Oh.
Can't you just give it to me? It's all got the skin.
The dog's face will stretch you out and then.
Go back into. The Adam gets the the the that's
the that's the bonus question. I was like, why was that dog
used? Because it on the booster's face
went from wrinkly to not but. That's what I was saying the
whole time on the. Boost, I already said it back.
What's breed you can't get in point?
No, no, you need to tell the breed.
Roly Poly dog. I don't think.
You should say that, Scott. I think that's offensive.
It's offensive, Scotty the dog. You're being doggist.
You're being doggy, Scotty. Chad, what?
Do you know what type of dog it is?
Oh man, No, no, it's escaped me. It's it's escape.
So I'll give everybody another go because of Roly Poly Scotties, you, you, you know what type of dog it is.
But yeah, David. A sharp.
A. Sharp A is absolutely correct.
David Prince, well done. Thanks sweetie.
Sorry, it is a. Sharp A did.
You give my extra point. For that I'll go.
For .5 for that one, because the question everybody already had
to go. So question 8, what were the
three cars used in the latest season of Wheeler Dealers in Australia? I'll give you a point for each,
Scott. One of them was the Ford XR8
that. Is correct the BFXR 8?
That's one point. I was kind of shooting for one
point, really exciting Allen. Got in the next one.
On the Commodore. Incorrect.
Commodore, not a Commodore. David.
One was a Sandman I think, wasn't it?
Well, it was the same man wannabe.
It was the same man wannabe. So like they made it look like a
Sandman, but it will actually. Oh, OK, OK, that's how it's
incorrect is. That half a point, no.
I'll give you half a point. I'll tell you why.
Because. Because they did turn it into
like a Sandman look like. So I'll give you half a point.
So was that a WB panel van? Was it a?
WB panel Van Rob, well done. I'll give you a full point for
that. And they had one more, which is
a pretty forgettable 1, to be fair, because it's just it wasn't. I mean, it's iconic.
I get in the form of that. There are bazillions of them
here, but not iconically Australian, if that makes sense.
Oh, Rob, Rob, is it a Toyota Camry?
No, I wasn't a Camry. They'll watch that.
I had no idea. Part of is going once, going
twice, going three times. Sold to nobody.
It was a Hilux. They use an old an old Hilux.
Yeah, that's right. Yeah.
That's boring, yeah. Question died How many
transmission options were available on a Toyota Aurion?
Scott. Scott got in there. 1.
One is correct, Scott. Well done.
Last question is a read the ad question.
Pressure is on. Maddie struggles to find the
actual question. See my saved things but my
phones taking a while to. We need to start monitoring
Maddie performance as well. Like game show us.
No, he's getting a -1 today do. Do do.
See, we do the reversal. Can Maddie make the question on
time, turn off on them. See, like one lights off another
one's. Going on, come on, come on.
In point now, all right. It was the time of The Beatles,
Korean's Clearwater Revival and Michael Nesmith.
The air smelled good, microeconomics haven't been invented, and in Australian high performance motoring, certain buzzwords stirred the pulse like no other.
HO, Subaru. Shaker, Rob.
Rob. Is an XY Falcon GT.
Incorrect. They all belong to the name that
dominated Australian motor racing, the legendary Ford Falcon GT. Now the legend is back.
It bristles with technology of the 90s.
It includes the thinking of engineers at Tigford.
Scott. Bickle and Scott is.
It the EBGTE. BGT Well done Scotty, last one
and it embodies the most advanced expression of Ford's acclaimed 5 litre V8, which wasn't really he claimed at all, but anyway, it was only available in three colours.
Guys, for the final bonus questions, what colours are they? Point each?
Oh. That's a.
Green. I'm got in there first.
What did you say? A green, it was not available in
the green. Really.
Yeah, Chad got in the next from what I heard.
There's a purple one. Incorrect.
Then it was Rob. Oh, Blue.
Yeah, Rob, you got in there next the.
LGT was purple. Yeah, yeah, you're.
Right. Rob, there was a there was a
blue Rob Yeah, that's. Blue.
That's one Scotty or David who got in there next.
I can't remember who got in there next, David.
Yeah, I think there was a burgundy.
Was it Jarrah? Yeah, I'll give you the red.
I'll give you the. I'll give you the red.
It was like a cardinal red, which is like a burgundy.
Yeah. And there was one more colour
that came in. Yes, yes.
And there was one more colour that came in, so there was a blue, the cobalt blue, cardinal red and one other colour.
Chad. Chad.
Black. Black is correct, Chad.
Well done, Black. I don't think I've seen one in
black, yeah. I've I've only ever seen them in
the blue or the red. I've never actually seen a black
one. I'd love to see one in black,
yeah. Not many were.
Made. I think there was more El ones
made than the AB there. Was, I believe, yeah, that they
didn't. They didn't.
They did not make many at all. I think they only made they were
made for the 25th anniversary Falcon GT Didn't say how many were made, but they were more of a luxury car to be fair than they were anything else. They.
Were slower than the XY they. Were 62,000 back in 92 which was
about 141 grand in today's money because that's a lot.
They weren't cheap. That is a cartel car quiz score
check Channel 1 Alamont 2 Rob on four Scotty on 12345 David on 12345 so we've got a tie between Buddy and David tonight I'm.
Happy to end it on a tie I'm. Happy to end it on a tie.
That's no I. Didn't get to end it on.
A tie. We're the Chip and Dale of the
podcast that means. That comes second.
All right, get ready for your questions.
You got to do the tiebreaker question all right.
Don't. Listen to what we're saying,
what the two two number one place getters to say just to.
Get no say in the matter. No.
Obviously I never got to say when I try to end on a tyre.
You. Know it's true.
So. That is, that is absolutely true
all. Right, the new Pagani Utopia.
It's a mid engine sports car made by the Italian brand.
You do think so, yeah. Yeah, there's something very,
very special about this car in relation to it being, you know, a supercar slash hypercar. Can you name that particular
special thing? David.
All right, David, go on. Made completely unobtainium.
Good. But unfortunately it's not it's
I feel it's the way how to describe it, is it?
Half a point. No.
It's a it's a special option in this car.
OK. So if you can mention that
you've got it, it's a quite a unique option given the car it is. Scotty.
You get a supermodel that comes with it.
No. Do you come with the car?
Final guesses you. I was in there today.
I should have had a nice look at all, right?
I'll give you the answer. There's an optional manual
gearbox. Oh, that's right.
Yeah, No, I did see that. And no, you don't get a point,
Alan. That can be a comeback.
We just have to leave it as a, as a tie, leave it as a.
Tie for tonight, a first ever tie.
Usually you even have an end on a tie here, but hands up for a hands up for an ending. Gentleman Honour as always.
David Prince, you do a podcast. I do and I'm sure the last three
episodes of season 2 are imminent.
It's called Auto Retro and we've got some great three really good ones to finish up with, including Ying.
So that will be Chad knows who I'm talking.
Well, most of us know who I'm talking about, which will be really good to have. She she was fantastic on the
podcast. So keep an eye out on the
regular platforms for it coming up.
Absolutely. Scottie's got tip of the week.
I've said this one before, but it's kind of very important because I started doing it again and it's keeping your weight over the top of the ball. There's a lot of times you'd
want to put more power, so you tend to swing backwards like a pendulum. And.
Kind of push forward, don't lean back, your body centred over the ball and then you can follow through and push through after.
Get a nice a nice pop swing. Yeah, all in the hips.
Don't. Just a question is, is the Happy
Gilmore shot? That's an illegal shot, isn't
it? You know, you know how to do
that. You're not allowed to do a run
up and hit, are you? I couldn't see why you wouldn't
be allowed noticing. The rules where is it?
It's. Probably unethical.
Like it's not like you, it's not consistent for you to keep trying to do that, to hit it perfectly.
So that's why people don't do it.
There is one golfer that's got a very interesting swing is a.
Shit at Mcgavin or? No, just the way he has his feet
and to get the more power he's he kind of twists one of his feet around. It looks very odd in that, but
it gives him power and it's, yeah, he's the only golfer that does it. I remember watching one of the
tournaments and the way he does, I was like, oh, I don't know how he does it and doesn't lose his footing or anything.
It's just it's odd compared to anyone else.
You tell him, yeah, you can change your swing and do what you like. Chads deliveries, delivering
someone EU look out for our friendliest bearded man.
Yeah. Big Blue truck.
Big Blue truck. Robbie doing it.
I think we've come to that. That's what Robbie doing.
