eight year old. We've had it for a decade and it just

completely flattened the rear wheel.

Hello Life Plus Cars community and welcome back to another

episode of the Life Plus Cars podcast. This is Ian. And if you

haven't listened to the High School Plus Cars episode, that's

episode 29, I recommend you do so because today's episode is part

two of that conversation with my high school friends, Martin,

Alex and Colby and Brendan, of course, joining that

conversation as well. And so I recommend you start there and

then jump into the episode here so that you can see the

storyline through either way. We appreciate you being here and

listening in. So without further ado, let's get into part two of

High School Plus Cars.

I have a question for Ian because I have a very, it's

definitely like a quote unquote core memory as we've been

talking about. But if you recall, so I'm not a car guy, but I

started to getting, you know, I like everyone else, I like hot

wheels and deeper speed, which we'll talk about at some point.

We should. Yes, we should. But I just I started getting, you

know, as much as I could in sixth grade when we were in Mrs.

Balch's homeroom class. And then I believe Martin was also in

our math class. Yeah, part of what I started getting the

interest in cars was there was a, and I never knew his name, we

never figured him out. But he was a high school student who had

like a car that he would fix up in shop. And we would look

outside and watch it going up and down Lebanon Street just, you

know, coming to and from parking. I just wanted to, did you ever

a find out more about that car? Or did you ever do you remember

what naked model it was? And what exactly to it that made it

wasn't that the black Mustang that was a, did we call them like

prowler or something there? It could have been, but I just can't

remember. I remember, but I recall distinctly, we would

sometimes we because that was back when the high school and

the middle school were a connected building. Yeah. Yeah.

We knew that the shop class, they were still they still had shop

class. Yes. Removing our shop class from the curriculum. But

they are a shame, real shame. So one time every once in a while,

we would walk and we would see it in the garage that was down

there. And I just wanted to know, A, you remember that and B, if

you knew more about that vehicle, since you have the

encyclopedic knowledge of every vehicle we've ever seen.

Yes. I hold on to it over time. Yeah. Well, are you are you are

you talking about Silver Strider?

Yes, that was all that's it. We called it Silver Strider because

Lord of the Rings and come out there. Yes, I was fine for

every boy. Absolutely. You and I were just glued to the windows

of Mrs. Balch's homeroom there to look for Silver Strider. And

that made it was a legendary car. It was a Silver, probably a

98 Honda Civic coupe. Oh, and it had a full body kit, custom

wheels, the whole like early 2000s tuner look.

To me, it looked like it was straight out of need for speed

Exactly. Probably was. Anyway, that was I was remembering

that as I was thinking about that's listening to your guys

podcast. That's a good memory, Alex. Yeah, that's right. Yes.

Every every year. What year did you say that was? What day?

Well, Miss Balch, I had to be what you guys were what sixth

grade? That was yeah, that was that would have been 2004. 2004.

2003, 2003, 2003, 2004. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. And I'll ask my

brother if he knows who that guy was. Yeah. Oh, man, maybe we've

can finally solve the Strider mystery. My brother would have

been a senior at that time. Oh, shoot. Okay. He graduated 2004.

So. Okay. Yeah. Oh, so this guy could have been in in his

grade. Yes. Yeah. So I was gonna when we get done, I was

gonna text him and ask him if he knows a kid back in high

school. We had a silver Honda Civic. He was just making it

look like fast and furious. And that's what it was. It

totally looked like it could have been fast and furious. I'm

sure it was we made it out to be much nicer than it actually

was. But I mean, it was all the same color because you knew

exactly as soon as you looked at it. Yes. It was noticeable. I

mean, there were a lot of cars that we took note of that year

and like some custom some not and then but that one just

Silver Strider. Head and shoulders at the top. Absolutely. In

fact, I think I don't know where this photo is. But it was the

I was taking darker photography as an elective that year. And I

captured a picture of Silver Strider when it was parked out

front of the high school. Yeah. And I man, what I wouldn't

get to find that photo.

Well, Eric or did live to be 210 years old. So Silver Strider

has a lot of life. It was part of the dunedine. So

one of the men of new manure. And those Honda Civics, they go

a long time. That's true. That's true.

Ian, I don't know. When did your when did your Honda Odyssey

event find or your father's Honda Odyssey eventually kick the

bucket? Because my I have a pretty decent story about my

family's Honda Odyssey. Oh, first, I'd only like to hear about

how long that lasted and what the what the killer blow was so

to speak. Yeah, my dad had the Odyssey, the man van for 15

years. So we bought that brand new as a 2002 model. I loved that

van also had V tech yo so

great car actually had V tech and pretty quick pretty quick. So

it was finally I think the rust was getting really bad along the

rocker panels on one side and it was starting to eat away at the

door. And it had it had spotty, I think transmission issues

that they couldn't quite trace what was going on. And it was

starting to get to that point where like, do we sink money

into it? Do we not? And then my dad finally decided to just call

it quits and bought his grand caravan that he still has. Do you

remember the mileage that was on it? I think 150,000. So it's

I mean, if we had put money into it, it would still be going

today. But it just got to a point where my parents didn't want

to do that. And you need reliable transport for the art.

Exactly. You need you need to it has to all four by eight sheet

of plywood. That's the only experiment. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah,

that was a sad day to see that go. I shed a tear for the man

van when that when that left. Yeah. So mine. So it was the same

thing. I don't I don't know if it had the tech yo, but it was it

was a it was a red it was a red Honda Odyssey. And we ran it

pretty, pretty hard. And when I was a junior in college, could

finally drive down to Carlisle and drive myself to college. And

so I had the biggest car. And so I had to I was tasked with

bringing all this, like, you know, speaker equipment to and

from college. And so when I was going back, I had also Ian, you

had also helped me paint a beer pong table. And so I was

transporting that as well. And so my car was just full of like

tech tech, and it was full of this pong table and all my

stuff and all this all this stuff. And I had the electric I

say I was my family's car, but we'll go with I I had all the

the electric sliding doors in yes, they ceased working at some

point and one didn't close all the way. And so it basically was

just sort of open the entire time. And so as I'm driving down

to Carlisle, it's about an eight hour drive, like it's it's

eight hours and change. If you have to stop and stuff. And as

I was driving and getting into New York City, because that was the

way it was taking me, I was sort of on the outskirts on the

outskirts. And then all at once, every light and the dash came

up, just everyone just lit up. And I like didn't really know

what to do. And so I pulled off to the side and I had like an

old non iPhone cell phone. So I called my parents, like, what

do I do? And they're like, just let it cool off a little bit,

turn it back on and see what happens. And luckily it turned

back on. And there was like one light left on and what wasn't

like, important quote. So this was, it was it was also like

bumper to bumper traffic as it was sort of getting on, you know,

sort of as you get near the GW and before like everyone had an

iPhone, you would have to like buy a GPS or it didn't come in

the car, you would have to buy a GPS. And so I think this was

probably an early version of one that tried to divert you around

the traffic. And so it said diverting you around traffic was

great. So I follow it. And I start like looking around. And I'm

a lot of cops and I'm starting to drive through the city and I'm

in, I guess it would have been upper Manhattan at that point,

because that's where the GW is. And I'm just up there and like

those high numbers, not really understanding like why am I seeing

so many cops? And that guy just gave me a really mean look when

he crossed the street. And I realized I was in what we can

sort of like call the ghetto, essentially. And I was stuck in

the ghetto with all of my stuff in my car and the door was like a

jaw. And so it was just open. It was basically about to break.

And like and then get on the GW and finally get to Carlisle.

The car ended up basically breaking in Carlisle. And my

uncle, who would also attend who was thrilled I was going to

Dickinson because he was a frequent attendee of the Carlisle

car show, and would go for the parts and things he said, good

man. And I have your car. And I was like, Yeah, the battery on

dying, the transmission is pretty much gone. He took it. And he

ended up getting that car to 300,000 miles. Dang it all up. And

I thought that I thought that thing was on its last leg and he

got to 300,000 miles before he finally said, I feel like driving

a different car now. And it was like, it wasn't even because it

broke, he just didn't feel like driving it anymore. Yep. That's

the Honda's for you. That's awesome.

Brendan, I sent these guys a video from today of my 2012 CRV

crossing over to 170. Yeah. Very, very cool. Yeah. Apparently

I've got 130,000 miles left. So I've been thinking if I could

get it to 200,000, I can get a different car with no guilt.

Yep.

In the years.

Well, there's always buyers remorse, you just got to accept

it. Exactly. Yeah, I just bought a Honda 2010 Honda Accord

from, I don't know if you guys remember him, the Simpsons.

Ollie Simpson was in my grade. Oh, yeah. His brother Adam was in

my brother's grade. But yeah, they had a 2010 Accord they

bought brand new. They just sold it to me. It's got 198,000

miles on it. And it was not pretty. But the big thing was

it wasn't running right. And I finally got it figured out it

was the water pump was leaking something fierce in it. Those

have a timing belt on those Hondas, not a timing chain. So I

took it all apart and the timing it actually skipped a couple

gears. So it was I don't know how the car still ran even but I

had a check engine light. It was the timing belt was off. So

put it all back together and that's going to be my winter

car. All right. Nice. Very cool. I'd be psyched if I could get

another 20,000 miles out of it. We'll see.

Actually, this is relevant to cars. Adam was in Boy Scouts

with my brother and I guess me but he was much older. Yeah, my

brother was at 2005 from high school. Yeah. And my dad taught

auto mechanics merit badge. I don't think I have that merit

badge to be honest. And you know, my dad taught it. I vivid

memories of my dad teaching it in our driveway. And Adam rode

our what's the name of the scooters the razors the razors

our racer scooter we had a driveway on a hill and he

rode it down the hill just right in the break and it just

created a giant flat spot and ruined the scooter and but we

never replaced it. So we just had like one working scooter and

one scooter with a wheel that was square and was on Hawke

Fine. Yeah, on Hawke Fine. So that was like to that. That was

probably 2004 or five that my dad would have been doing that.

Awesome.

I thought Hawke Pine was a Hawke Pine was grapple. Our

driveway was paved. And so it was just from the top of our

driveway down to the

got a garage. Yeah. And somehow I think he was just like a big

kid and it was like a scooter made for like an eight year old.

We've had it for a decade and it just completely flat and rear

rear. Yep. Sounds about right. Yeah. So what are you gonna

get another suburban Colby come on. You're gonna get another

razor scooter. Hey, it's got wheels.

They're I just got two I'm the proud owner of four scooters

now two like toddler ones and then two like real razor brand

razor scooters they're cheap now. Well, specifically, they

were free from my in-laws who picked them up from the side of

road. There you go. It has like a USB plug in because it has

lights that come on. I've already lost the cord. Oh my

gosh. It really evolved in the scooters in the last 25 years.

Holy cow. Yeah, razors are not the same. Now they have electric

scooters. You're gonna get some of those.

Right. Yeah. No, Brendan, I have a Sienna a 2023 the first new car

I purchased. Yeah, because used cars are so expensive. You guys

had a great episode on that. So yeah, Ian was a big part of

encouraging me to get the Sienna. Yeah. All wheel drive. All

wheel drive. Yep. Yeah. Nice. Two kids and a dog and a

stroller and we don't have a garage. We just treat the Sienna

like our garage just all of our crap is just in the back of the

Sienna and we need to like if I need to go to the dump, I've

got to take I've got to spend like 20 minutes taking stuff out

of the Sienna and then 20 minutes loaded new Sienna with the

stuff for the dump. And then when I get home and the same thing

in reverse, it sounds like you need another car. No, actually,

it's funny you talk about your 98 verb because I actually it's

a car picked up in Pennsylvania with my dad and brothers a 96

suburban. That's a one owner was 60,000 miles on and it's like

it's perfect. It still smells new when you open it. It was like

a little guy and it is it's beautiful. I drove it home from

Pennsylvania never skipped the beat but it's amazing. Oh, it is

it's like in perfect condition. It's like a time capsule.

It's like that would look really good in your driveway. Let me

just say we should talk after this. There you go. Take a step

back 20 years. Does it have tinted windows? On the rear? Yeah.

Okay. Yeah, like everything from the rear seats back is like

super dark tint. You cannot see it. Yeah. Right. Nice. My dad's

92 had no tint and I feel like that's now cars just don't come

without tinted windows in the rear, right? Oh, yeah. And I

think that's I actually missed that the 92 had no airbags and

no tinted windows. And so you just had complete visibility and

like complete right like huge open windows and all the

directions when you die in the crash because of no airbag

everyone can see it. Oh, yeah. That's a fact. The 96 at least

has one airbag on the driver's side. So you know, what the

heck? Right. And if I get it, I will be very single and

probably not have contact with my kids. So it only needs one

airbag. Exactly. Yeah, let's talk after this. How much do you

want for it? Yeah, too much. No, the one thing I'll say about

it though, like I would love to hear your guys opinion on this

is the one thing that driving it back like the seven or eight

hours from Pennsylvania that made me really appreciate an

older car is there's no screen. And it's just got buttons and

knobs and dials for everything. Like there's none of the BS

right like and I love that like my my new trucks got like

everything you touch the screen and this and that like I hate

it. I just want to have a knob for the air and a button for a

seat, you know, any of that stuff. So I'd love to hear what

you guys think about that.

Oh, give me give me knobs for for climate controls and and seat

controls. Mostly that I like I like like the Bluetooth stuff I

like hooking my phone up to listen to music or or podcast or

whatever. But oh, yeah, that's fair. That's yeah, but give me

camera would be nice. That's nice. But yeah, but give me give

me a proper like if you're if you're driving automatic, give

me an actual like shifter, you know, don't don't mean not just

the knob or push button. Oh my God, I drove. Thank you. Thank

I rented a Nissan for a couple of days and this had the most

bass upward shifting system. It's a family friendly podcast.

It wasn't it wasn't even buttons. It was like it was like a

little chunky thing and like you shift the chunky thing. Oh my

God, I hated it. Yeah, terrible. Yeah. What are you

driving? Oh, Alex. Oh, me. Yeah, I drive a I think it's a 21 or

22 Honda CRV. Nice. I bought it used. And it only had it

doesn't even have 30,000 miles on it yet. And I've been driving

it for over a year now. Well over a year actually, almost two

years actually. Yeah, because I got it and I got it. I got it

because I used my family's I had taken my family Subaru out

back and that car broke down on would it be 495 out in

Massachusetts, it broke down on Thanksgiving Day. So I got to

spend a nice chunk of Thanksgiving Day 2023 on the

side of the interstate while my that car just absolutely went

kaput. And so I was able to purchase this car for it was

not cheap, but it also was way cheaper given the fact that it

only had about 13 to 15,000 miles on it. And so it's been

running like brand new. I mean, I drove it I live in Idaho now.

And so I drove it across the country and it went great and

my folks are up here last weekend and we drove all around

Idaho up our in the sawtooths and everything and it was it's

it's really it's a fine car with the exception of I really don't

like the screen. I don't like the screen and I don't like that

the backup there needs to be like some sort of standard that

the backup camera is going to tell you when there's something

there and not just if something's moving behind you. I've

come very close to backing it into things. Yeah. Yeah. But

yeah, it's a decent ride. It's getting getting the job done. And

I got it for, you know, given that there was less than 15,000

miles on it for a halfway decent price, all things

considered, got it at in Seegurt, New Jersey, because that's

where my folks live.

Yep, great place by Honda Seegurt.

Nice. Right next to the Gogart factory. So whereabouts in

Idaho are you, Alex?

I live in the capital. I live in Boise. Oh, okay. Nice. So

you're not far from Nampa. There you go.

No, I'm not. No, Nampa's right down the road. That's good to

know. I bought a few cars out of Nampa that I shipped back here

to sell. I might have to have you, you know, be my contact

out there.

I'm here. I'm here. I'll be here. And I forgot I didn't have my

phone on me because I was late getting to a running group that

is right across the street from where I live. So I wasn't

driving there and I don't run with my phone or anything. There

was I kid you guys not a brand what looked brand new, but it

was a Ferrari was just in the parking lot. Just behind my

building just a I'd never actually besides when I went to

Italy once I'd never seen a Ferrari in the wild. It was just

parked in my parked parked in the handicap spot. And when I

came back, it was gone. And I didn't get a chance to take a

picture. And I didn't want to text you guys, Hey, I saw a

Ferrari.

That's what I figured I'd tell you guys now that I screwed up and

didn't get a picture of it.

So I lived in a Palm Desert, like area for for eight years in

California. And if you don't know the area, it is, it has a lot

of money there. And every every October through April, the

supercars came out, we're talking Bentley's and Ferraris and

Lamborghini's and you name it, they were they were everywhere

Jaguars. It was it was crazy. I'm not that places there's so much

money back there.

So what are you driving now, Martin, you know, La Ferrari or

right?

So

the car the car I own, but I don't drive is a Honda pilot. And

we got that just for, yeah, just for the family. It's a good,

good road trip car. But honestly, it is boring. It's if

it's not in sport modes, I just can't stomach it. It is. It's

very, it's very nice and comfortable and practical. But

man, but it's a great road trip car. I have a work truck. So I

own it, but the company does and that's a Ford F 150 four door.

So it's, it's fine too. It's, it's comfortable. It's, it's

quiet. Yeah, that's that's a good truck. It's got the I think

that's on the maybe it's a six cylinder with the EcoBoost. So

it's got the turbo in there. Nice. You can you can hear that

spool up when you start pushing 80.

Yeah.

What exactly and it's a safe space. What exactly does sport

mode do and given that the interstate in the western part

of the United States is often 75 miles an hour and over, would

it be worth putting it into sport mode? When you're on those

interstates?

Sport mode is better for me for around town because it what it

does is increases the revs between gear changes. So like I

don't, I don't think you notice much of a difference on the

freeway, but like if you're not driving super fast, it's meant

for other kind of driving.

Yeah, yeah, it makes a round town putting around more fun

because you take off from stop lights faster and and yeah, a

little bit more aggressive gear changes and stuff. So that kind

of makes it fun. Okay. Yeah, yeah.

Yeah, sport mode is very fun. It changes everything changes the

changes how long it holds revs, all of it.

And that turns the pilot into a totally different car because

it's got that that Honda straight six, I think. And we put

that thing into sport mode. It takes off and it's pretty sweet.

But in like a normal mode, it is it is boring.

Blans, though.

But it's a good car.

It's a pretty for the uneducated. I would have thought that

sport mode would have made driving super fast speeds like

more tenable for the car or something like that.

I think in fancier cars, it

I could have looked like

Yeah, some cars would like change a suspension and lowers it

down to the ground and, you know, spoilers come out. There's a

bunch of different stuff.

No sport mode for the poor man sport modes. It just makes you

feel like the car is powerful. Yeah, that's poor man.

Would I have beaten Colby in a drag race if the old Subaru

legacy had sport car had sport?

Maybe, maybe, probably against the 98 burb.

Probably, yeah, but I wouldn't recommend going up against it.

But yeah, that that pilot I bought brand new. Yeah, it was a

good car. I had a I had a 2017 Subaru cross-strait that I

traded in for that. And it was it was a good car. It was just

too small for the for the car seat or or potentially

additional car seats and all the stuff we got to take when we

get back to California. So it was a it was it was a good

trade in though. Yeah. Yeah, it's a great family car and that

leaves room for the fun car. Right? Yes. Yes. Yeah, which is

this is a great segue. I got I wanted to talk to you guys

about this is while we were in high school, all of us like what

were the dream cars? So obviously, you're driving the 98

and the 98 and the suburban, you know, all that, right? Yeah.

Yeah, you know, what everyone's got the car. But what was the

dream car? Like, I mean, I'll start it off like for me, I'll

never forget that movie came out. That was the island. It's like

Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johansson. And it's like they're

like clones, right? But they're like, they're clones of people

for like organ harvesting. And when you get a second one, I am

DB, but tell me the movie because they had in it a Cadillac

prototype car called the Cadillac CN, which was like a V12 or

V16 like mid engine car sleek as could be. And that was like the

feature car of the movie. And I remember seeing that I think it

was 2002 or three when that movie came out. And I was just

like, to have that car. She's like, it's amazing. So yeah,

that that's mine.

Well, it's got a 39% on rotten data.

He's gonna say it's not a good movie. It's not. I didn't say it

was a good movie.

The car, the car counts for about 10%. Yeah, I just like the

car.

Well, I think my answer hasn't changed. It was our cross

country coaches. I don't I guess I don't know the year, but

his Tacoma that way he had him. Yeah. Like those early 2000s

Tacomas or 2004 or earlier. I love those. Just classic nice

lines, practical, not too good.

I was gonna say like that's been my main issue with a lot of

trucks is I like I like the half cab in the back. That's what

it's called. I'm really not a car guy. It's the half one.

Yeah, not the full Ford. The one that like opens the other way.

Yeah, the extended cab. Yeah.

Mine would be mostly in high school. Mine was probably

something outlandish like a

you know, like a Ferrari or Lamborghini. No, yeah, I was I

think I was all about enough to if the Aventador had come out

when I was in high school, but I was I was like all I was like

drooling over that. You know, yeah, that was you know, that

would have been the dream car or something like that.

Yeah, come on, Alex. What about you? What do you got? Hit me

with the I think mine was a PT cruiser or one of those.

Yeah, I was gonna say nice.

Nice. I didn't realize that you have the soul of an 85 year old

woman that's a cat lady. No, no, it was not a PT cruiser. It was

probably like a BMW convertible, like probably one of those

like hard top BMW convertibles, something like that. Yeah, I

like the I like the hard tops more than the the whatever the

other kind of yeah, so like in that era, it would have been

like a 325 ci or something like that. That sounds that sounds

right. I couldn't tell you I couldn't tell you what kind but

something like one of those BMW hard tops. Yeah, I don't know

if I'd want that anymore. I would probably also want the

truck Colby wants something like that. Yeah, but I'm not sure if

I have a dream car these days.

Yeah, we've all come down a little bit. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, we

gotta hear Ian's what was your dream car, you know, in high

school? Yeah, or is it still the same? I mean, you've got your

66 Mustangs. I did get and follow up. Did you make this car

in either need for speed underground to for the most

wanted? Is this the car that you chose for that video game?

Well, actually, so one of them is yes, it was a 2005 Mustang

GT, which I do still love when they totally redesigned it

made it retro. And yes, I did make underground to and most

wanted. Yes, I did build those cars out, particularly like a

bright red one, or the Shelby GTH of that era. Yeah, I just

wanted Oh, oh, I see how we have a question. I'd like to make

it additional to my answer. Since since since this ball just

sixth grade class, probably the Mustang would be another childhood

car because I was influenced by Ian and it was a good call.

Which which which which era of Mustang? The one he was talking

about 2000. So yeah, 2005 era like 2005 to 2010, when they

totally redesigned it brought the fastback look. Yeah. Yeah. And

yeah, I still love those cars. I that would be a wicked fun car

to own my just total dream exotic of the period was an Enzo

Ferrari. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah.

Oh, man. You know, I, I would put my my achievable dream car

right now is like a Porsche Panamera. Oh, I like those. I do

like those and they're not I mean, they're expensive, but

they're not like dumb expensive. Yeah, they're just you know,

they're they're they're practical because they got four

doors. Yeah. Probably fast as hell. So I think you put the kids

in and not feel guilty, right? Sure. Absolutely. Although

with the kids, maybe a Cayenne GTS twin turbo V8 that would be

that would be I just I just like the look of the Panamera. It's

just I don't know. It's just sleek and they're just they're

beautiful. They're yeah, I don't know. There's something about

them. Yeah, I'm just thinking a way to get the kids to school

that much quicker. Exactly. Speaking of kids and being all

right. Brendan, the reason I need to suburban is because one

of the highlights of my week is going to the dump with my

three year old. And he's convinced that going to the

dump is the greatest thing that's ever happened. And he like

he's legitimately helpful at this point, he will take a full

container of trash, knock it over on its side and then pick

out the bags one by one and throw them into the trash pile. But

the way I commit the way I convinced him that the dump is

awesome is letting him drive at the dump. He sits on my lap.

It's the only place he drives. He sits on my lap and you have

to pull forward down the line. That's awesome. You do your

paper, your household trash, your cardboard, your plastics,

glass cans. It's a little more than a few times and he loves it.

But he's doing it in a minivan. And I feel like his childhood

would be much better if it were in a suburban question. I feel

like I'm letting him down. Yours was better your childhood

because of the suburban. 100%. Yeah, exactly. That's an easy

sell. That's right. I've tried the dump run pitch and it hasn't

worked so far. Ah, I also don't get it. Our next sort of

neighbor has Ian can vouch for this legitimately four four or

five completely broken down cars. Like some of them are up on

blocks. Some of them are just down on flat tires. It's main

like, yes, we are the odd ones out for only having two cars in

the driveway. It's embarrassing that we only have two cars.

Yeah, no, you got you got to upload that's fair. Yeah, actually,

friend, and if you have any beaters that are non functional,

if you can just ship them down here. Yeah, so we can all you

guys drive manual? Not me. No, no, I tried driving one for an

afternoon and I just gave up. So I'm automatic. Yeah. Ian, you

got to work on your friend here. One person I knew who drove a

manual in high school refused to teach me. Who is that name

names? No way. I feel like we should be able to get to who had

a manual. Come on, you guys will get it eventually. Oh, I know

who it is. Yeah, I'll think about put it in the chat.

Brendan, I, my dad circa 2005 or something bought a 1995 Audi

s6. Yeah. But I think it was probably 95 and 96. They were

shipping them over here and they stopped for like a decade.

Yeah, a little bit of a collector's item. And so we had

a stick shift in the house and I kind of learned on it, but

not really. So no, I'm also in the not really camp.

Okay, I was gonna say, I was gonna circle back to you. I

didn't know. But yeah, does he still have one of them or no?

He had that car until about two years ago, and then they moved

and so he had like, fixed cars in the driveway or spread out on

the lawn and he finally got rid of it, which he was texting me

about it today, saying it was the most fun car he had. And it

was, it had like the race, the racing seats, because when you

really took a corner hard, and then you would, like, you would

actually

touched by the seat. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Those actually, those

really aren't too hard to get a hold of these days. He if he

wanted another one, it'd be pretty easy to get one. So

yeah, he sold it to some guy for like three grand. And that

guy sold it to someone else for like six grand to me later. He

thought he was like, doing the guy a favor because he was an

enthusiast. And then it turned out he was he was not.

All right, when I heard that call, because I almost asked your

dad, oh, yeah, we should have given you that car.

Yes, like, if you ever sell that, let me know. And then when

it was to hear that it was gone, like,

there for three grand, jeez, I would have bought it. Yeah. I

won't. Yeah, I won't take my dad's material. You'll have to

have him on the podcast. And there was love to love to talk

about the Suburbans. We could talk for hours.

Yeah, he's got I won't spoil his episode. The guy who owned it

previously took off whatever like, I'm going to call it a

restrictor plate because we watched NASCAR growing up. But

whatever it was that like made the top speed cap out at like

160 or whatever. He removed that. And so it was like actually

like, basically the fastest car that you could have in 1996 or

whatever it was.

That's awesome.

When he comes on, you'll have to ask him about that. It might

be a three parter because you're only going to get through

about 1972 in two hours of talking to him.

Yep. Well, yeah, it's about talking to my dad about cars.

We covered everything I wanted to talk about the cars you guys

had, what you got now, dream cars, your cars in high school,

obviously. Is there anything else you wanted to ask Ian?

I mean, we could touch, I mean, we could touch upon need for

speed that.

Oh, I love video games.

I mean, that could be an entirely separate episode if we

wanted that to be one. But at that, that's thought the other

only other thing I had.

Hot pursuit too. That was my first one.

You can do a video podcast and have no commentary but just have

it be Ian playing need for speed or listen commentary.

He's pretty good at it still.

I believe it.

Oh, yeah, I can hold my own.

Yeah, I was just gonna say, I almost said my dream car when I

was in high school was the McLaren F1 from need for speed.

Oh, I also like hot pursuit too.

There you go. There's the dream car.

Yeah, I think I had aged out of that by high school.

But certainly when I was like 10 years old or whenever I spent

so many like, I can still sing the songs from the soundtrack to

that. Oh, you got the fever for the flavor.

Yeah, can I get my need for speed dream car was the 350 Z for

sure. That was I still is a sweet car.

Yeah, yes.

Those are super obtainable.

Okay, okay.

Super obtainable.

My need for speed dream car was an Aston Martin, but I don't

remember what.

Oh, no, the vanquisher.

I mean, also, I believe it was driven in the Bond film, the

one the first one with Daniel Craig, Cassino.

Yeah, OK, OK, yeah, that's a sweet car.

Yeah, that's from that's that's from most wanted.

Oh, yeah, yeah, there was some baller cars and most wanted

like you had like the cheap stuff.

But then you as you worked your way up the blacklist, then you

got into some serious cars.

Yeah, yeah, I was underground too was like the best for

customizing and you had all the tuners.

You had the Supra and the, you know, the the the Nissan's, the

it was the yes, like there were just so many.

Oh, man, the.

Oh, my gosh, I can't remember any of them.

But they're those were those were the classics.

I mean, and that was peak middle school for us that like we

spent so much time on underground to.

Yeah, we did.

That was that was like every Saturday morning, we were in there

and then every person worked on their car for like half an hour.

The car, all right, my turn.

Yeah, we would all sit around.

Yeah, yeah, right.

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Do you remember Buffer's Pink Peugeot 206?

Oh, yeah, yeah, the bride edition.

Like it is that the yeah, that thing was cool.

Yeah, I'm going to have to like I'm going to have to

somehow get like screenshots of all of our old cars, because they are all

that they're all still in there.

Oh, that's awesome.

Oh, look at crazy.

Oh, they're in there.

Yeah, you got the Dan's pink and green Hummer.

Oh, my.

Someone had a pink and green Hummer, I don't I forgot about that one.

Oh, my gosh, yes.

Yep, they're all in there.

I mean, and then, I mean, I also think of the time that, you know,

when I finally beat most wanted like 15 years later.

Glorious day.

Yeah, that's right.

Yeah, we worked at that was like eight hours that day.

It was I think it was the summer after our freshman year at college.

Right.

When we sat down, we buckled down and we did it.

Yes, in your basement.

It was in our in my basement and we took turns.

Didn't it? Didn't we?

Because we just all think so.

We're all, yeah.

I remember Alex being very good at a couple of the challenges.

Like there was who's the guy that you had to beat in the end?

Razor.

Yeah, I was a silver strider.

We finally beat silver striders.

Alex went on a tear.

Yeah, Brennan, did you play much need for speed?

I mean, outside of Hoppersuit too.

Hoppersuit too in underground.

A lot of underground.

Yeah, yeah.

And I just think I remember most about underground was

just every time you booted it up was just that get low by a little wing.

Just burn them, them, them.

There's just like, all right, yeah, we're playing this.

But I was more a burnout.

I love burnout.

Those games are so much fun.

And and then Gran Turismo Gran Turismo for three and four

were, yeah, played those a lot.

Yeah. Oh, those. Yeah.

And those were PlayStation, right?

Oh, yes. Yeah.

Well, the burnout, I think was on GameCube, at least one or two titles.

Yeah, burnout.

I had some kind of burnout on GameCube.

I remember that. Yeah. Yeah.

Yeah. Those were fun because I think the cars took damage and like those were kind of neat.

Oh, yeah. Those were fun games. Yeah.

Oh, yeah. We need we need like vertical takedown.

Someone or like, you know, push them in on traffic.

Yeah. Yeah.

But man, like just the just the free realm of underground was was like unsurpassable.

That's I mean, that's just so fun.

Just hop on your car and just drive.

What a time.

Yeah, I haven't played like any racing games of recent.

Yeah. The sign we're getting older and just not playing the games anymore.

It's terrible.
