Dan and Nick trade updates on Avants growth, national meetups, and the communityās expanding online presence, then pivot to personal stories: Nickās recent travel and getting sick, plus a secret-location Raptor Junkies-style online auction event. The big tech talk is Nickās new KTM 390 Enduro Rāwhy single-cylinder āthumpersā are durable, how to ride them in the right RPM range, and the bikeās ride-by-wire features. The other major reveal is Nickās parentsā new Storyteller 144 sprinter van, built for overland comfort, with upgrades and upcoming trips. They wrap with an audience question about favorite driving roads.
Nick and his family have been busy acquiring fun vehicles! Nick gets behind the wheel of the ultimate adventure van, a brand new Storyteller Beast Mode! Not just that, but spring is around the corner and he couldn't resist the need for another motorcycle, so he's the proud new owner of a KTM 390 Enduro too! Needless to say Dan probably needs to step it up and get another toy. That's the only logical conclusion we can draw from this. Our question of the week is, if someone gave you your dream car, what road are you putting it on? Dan and Nick both would head to Utah, but what about you?

"...laughing because I I got I got new plates for the Raptor I saw that Raptor power. Yeah after a long disse..."
The Ford F-150 is a large pickup truck that many people use for work or everyday driving. Itās popular because itās available in many different versions. The podcast brings it up in the context of driving and fueling it.
The Ford F-150 is a full-size pickup truck thatās widely used for everything from daily driving to work and towing. In the podcast, itās mentioned alongside a Raptor and gas stop, which suggests a comparison of real-world ownership and driving experiences. Itās a common reference point because itās one of the most familiar trucks in the lineup.
"You ever need new tires. It's gonna pay for itself instantly our Michelin deal..."
The hosts focus on tire replacement as a key reason to join the Avance membership. They argue that the tire discounts are large enough to quickly recoup the membership cost.
"You ever need new tires. It's gonna pay for itself instantly our Michelin deal and be of good rich deal is still in place..."
They mention Michelin because itās the tire brand theyāre getting a deal on. The point is that buying Michelin tires through the program can save you a lot of money.
Michelin is referenced as the tire brand tied to a special deal for Avance members. The hosts emphasize that the Michelin discount is strong enough to offset membership cost.
"I've never owned a KTM before ... KTM's a little bit weird about you're not really allowed to test drive bikes before you buy them"
KTM is a motorcycle brand that makes a lot of dirt and off-road bikes. In this episode, they mention KTMās buying rules that affect how you can test a bike before purchasing.
KTM is an Austrian motorcycle manufacturer thatās especially prominent in off-road and enduro/enduro-racing categories. In the segment, KTM is also referenced in the context of how test rides and sales are handled for bikes.
"It's a it's a thumper as they call that ... Yeah, it's a thumper. Thumper is a big single cylinder"
A āthumperā is slang for a motorcycle with one big cylinder. It usually feels and sounds different than multi-cylinder bikes, and it often has strong pull at low speeds.
āThumperā is a common motorcycle term for a single-cylinder engine that produces a distinctive āthumpā sound and feel. The speaker uses it to describe the bikeās engine characterāsimple design, strong low-end torque, and durability.
"They don't require a lot of maintenance as long as you change the oil frequently"
Theyāre saying the bike will last longer if you change the oil often. Dirt riding is hard on the engine, so fresh oil helps it run properly.
Frequent oil changes are emphasized as a key maintenance practice for keeping a dirt bikeās engine healthy. For off-road ridingāwhere engines can run hot and work hardāstaying on top of oil service helps durability.
"That's kind of it keep your air filter clean change oil often pretty much good to go"
The air filter is like a screen that keeps junk out of the engine. If it gets dirty, the bike can run worse, so cleaning or replacing it helps it feel strong.
An air filter keeps dirt and debris out of the engineās intake. A clean air filter helps the engine breathe properly and can support consistent performance and fuel economy.
"That's kind of it keep your air filter clean change oil often pretty much good to go"
Engine oil is what keeps moving parts from grinding against each other. Changing it regularly helps the engine last longer and run smoother.
Regular oil changes keep the engine lubricated and help remove contaminants that build up over time. Fresh oil also supports cooling and reduces wear on internal components.
The clutch is what lets you smoothly start moving and shift gears. Over time it wears out because you use it a lot when riding.
A clutch is the friction device that connects and disconnects engine power from the transmission. Wear is normal because itās repeatedly engaged and disengaged, especially in stop-and-go riding.
"If you know KTM, this is the same engine that's in the 390 Duke. They have a 390"
The KTM 390 Duke is a street motorcycle. In this episode, itās mentioned because its engine is the same basic design used in other KTM 390 bikes.
The KTM 390 Duke is a street bike that shares the same engine family as other KTM 390 models. The speaker uses it to explain that the underlying motor design is proven and widely used across the lineup.
"Yeah, and also the 390 sport bike the RC 390 which is so this motor is
[539.2s] Absolutely proven to take a beating and the 390 sport bikes are actually very popular with the track"
The KTM RC 390 is KTMās sport bike built around the 390 engine. Theyāre saying that same engine platform is commonly used by riders who go to the track.
The KTM RC 390 is the sportier, track-oriented version of KTMās 390 platform. The speaker points out that this engine family is popular in track settings, suggesting itās durable and capable when ridden hard.
"it's a lot of bike for $6,000 out the door. Oh, yeah So ton of bike."
āOut the doorā means the full price you actually pay at purchase time. It includes things like taxes and dealer fees, not just the sticker price.
āOut the doorā (OTD) is the total price you pay to buy the vehicle, including taxes and fees. Itās a common way dealers quote pricing so you can compare deals apples-to-apples.
"everybody said the same thing about the torque? I mean, which is understandable, but yeah rev it."
Torque is what makes the bike feel strong when you roll on the throttle, especially at lower speeds. More torque usually means easier pulling without needing to rev as high.
Torque is the twisting force an engine produces, and it strongly affects how quickly a motorcycle accelerates at low to mid RPM. The speaker mentions torque as a key factor they were told about when considering the bike.
"And I'm doing only two things to this bike. I am I put on hand guards like uh,
Acherbies, how do you say that?"
Hand guards are the protective covers around your handlebars. They help keep your hands and brake/clutch levers safe if you hit something or drop the bike. Theyāre a common add-on for off-road riding.
Hand guards are protective plastic/metal shields mounted around the handlebars to protect your hands and levers from branches, rocks, and falls. Theyāre especially common on off-road and adventure motorcycles. They can also reduce windblast and help prevent lever damage.
"And then I'm doing a tail tidy. That's it. I don't think the bike really needs anything and I'm good
I mean, I might eventually there's there's a little there's some some crash cages that they can do but just in case"
A ātail tidyā is an aftermarket kit that cleans up the rear of a motorcycle by relocating or reshaping components like the license plate, turn signals, and sometimes the fender. On dirt/adventure bikes, it often reduces snag points and improves overall appearance. Itās usually a low-impact modification compared with performance parts.
"I mean, I might eventually there's there's a little there's some some crash cages that they can do but just in case
Yeah, it really doesn't need anything. It doesn't. Yeah"
Crash cages (often called engine guards or frame guards) are protective bars/frames mounted around vulnerable areas like the engine and radiator. Theyāre intended to reduce damage during tip-overs or low-speed crashes. For adventure riding, theyāre a common āprotect the bikeā upgrade.
"The uh, window seals are a little tight
Oh to the point where they were not have they didn't feel like their quality the quality that they put out there
Would be would come through in the window tint."
Window seals are the rubber strips around the windows that help keep the car quiet and dry. If they donāt fit right, you can hear more wind noise or have trouble with things like window tint sticking correctly.
āWindow sealsā are the rubber or trim seals around a carās windows that help keep water and wind out. If theyāre too tight or not sealing consistently, you can get fit/finish issues and related problems like wind noise or tint bubbling/poor adhesion.
"This is our first Audi... amazing... This is our first Audi we've we've generally owned BMWs throughout all of my life"
They mention BMW because itās been the main brand theyāve owned before. BMW is a popular luxury brand that many people like for how the cars drive.
BMW is mentioned as the brand the family has generally owned throughout the speakerās life. BMW is known for driving dynamics and a strong performance lineup, which helps explain why theyāre comparing different luxury/performance brands.
"It comes with heating air conditioning bed Every and it's full a full kc light package. I added starlink"
Starlink is satellite-based internet. It helps you stay connected even when youāre far from regular cell service.
Starlink is SpaceXās satellite internet service, often used in RVs and expedition vehicles to maintain connectivity away from cell towers. In this context, itās an āon-the-roadā tech upgrade for remote travel.
"I added starlink We're i'm putting a winch on the front of i'm having actually i want i want a huge shout out ... I'm doing a front winch."
A winch is a tool that can pull the vehicle out if it gets stuck. It uses a cable and a motor to do the pulling.
A winch is a motorized cable system used for self-recovery or assisting others when a vehicle gets stuck. Itās typically mounted to the front (or rear) with a dedicated bumper or winch plate.
"I mean, I got a soft shackles for it. I've got recovery boards for it. The chances of them needing this are very slim, but I want to have it in case"
Recovery boards are like temporary traction platforms you put under a tire when youāre stuck. They give the tire something to grab so you can get moving again.
Recovery boards are traction aids placed under a tire when a vehicle is stuck in mud, sand, or snow. They help the tire regain grip so the vehicle can be pulled out or drive free.
"It comes with a 25 gallon fuel tank. We're gonna up it to a 50. Perfect."
A 25-gallon fuel tank is how much gas the vehicle can hold. If you have more fuel onboard, you usually have to stop for gas less often.
A ā25 gallon fuel tankā is the vehicleās onboard fuel capacity. Larger tanks reduce how often you must refuel, which can improve convenience and trip planningāespecially in areas with long distances between stations.
"It comes with a 25 gallon fuel tank. We're gonna up it to a 50. Perfect. Um, not that you know, that just"
Theyāre talking about doubling the fuel capacity to 50 gallons. That means you can drive farther before needing to stop for gas.
Increasing from a 25-gallon to a ā50 gallonā tank is a major range upgrade. It can significantly reduce refueling frequency and help on remote routes where fuel availability is limited.
"There's no bad place to stay at moab. I always say the worst place to stay at moab is still better than any place ... in colorados right next door"
Moab is a well-known outdoor destination in Utah. Lots of people go there to drive off-road on trails and explore rugged desert scenery.
Moab is a famous off-road and outdoor destination in Utah, strongly associated with desert trails and rock-crawling. Itās a common place to test how well off-road vehicles handle sand, rocks, and elevation changes.
"[2239.7s] There's a lot of distracted. I'm gonna call it distracted drivers, right?
[2243.0s] Yeah, that's why I just gave the quick honk like hey, maybe shouldn't see your center phone or something"
Distracted driving means taking your attention off the road or the situation youāre in. The speaker thinks people are distractedāespecially with phonesāwhich makes everything slower and more frustrating.
Distracted driving refers to any activity that pulls attention away from driving, such as using a phone. The speaker connects distraction to slow reactions and risky behavior in tight situations like parking and fueling lines.
"This is a previous search and rescue used grand Cherokee. Uh, it's really built
[2464.6s] Perfect, it's the perfect off-roader because it's built enough to get you places"
An off-roader is a vehicle meant for dirt roads and trails, not just smooth pavement. Itās built to handle bumps and rough conditions better than a typical commuter SUV.
An āoff-roaderā is a vehicle intended for unpaved roads, trails, and rough terrain. The speaker frames the Grand Cherokee as ābuilt enoughā to reach destinations while tolerating the wear that comes with that kind of use.
"[2638.2s] It's funny because again, we talk about this design theology. This sort of has that
[2644.0s] Doesn't don't yell at me. It does not look like a 250 gto"
Theyāre talking about the ādesign philosophyā behind a carāwhy it looks the way it does. Itās basically the idea that designers follow certain rules or themes.
āDesign theologyā here refers to a guiding philosophy behind how a car is styledāwhat shapes, proportions, and cues the designer is trying to communicate. The hosts connect it to how cars from the same era share visual DNA.
"[2644.0s] Doesn't don't yell at me. It does not look like a 250 gto
[2646.0s] But it has some a lot of styling elements that you see from that era"
The Ferrari 250 GTO is one of the most famous classic Ferraris. Itās known for its very distinctive shape, and here theyāre comparing that look to another car.
The Ferrari 250 GTO is a legendary 1960s-era Ferrari race car known for its distinctive, highly curvy shape and motorsport heritage. The speaker compares styling elements from that era, arguing the other car shares some cues but is less curvy.
"...we did that on chucking out that day with the with the mclaren like [2705.4s] We there was no traffic and it was just a perfect day 675 lt"
McLaren 675 LT is a high-performance supercar. The speakers are saying they had an amazing drive in it because the day and the roads were perfect.
The McLaren 675 LT is a track-focused supercar from McLaren, known for being lighter and more performance-oriented than the standard 650S/675LT-era cars. In the episode, itās used as an example of a perfect driving day and a car that can handle great roads confidently.
"[2716.1s] What's your road? Is it driving up pikes peak? Is it going down schaefer schaefer? [2720.8s] Switchbacks off switchback off road."
Switchbacks are those winding mountain turns where the road keeps turning back on itself. Theyāre challenging because you have to keep the car pointed and controlled through lots of curves.
Switchbacks are tight, back-and-forth turns commonly found on mountain roads. They stress a carās grip, braking stability, and steering response, which is why the speakers bring them up when discussing āthe best roadā to drive.
"It's because there are it's the u.s. There's no speed cameras. There's limited police"
Speed cameras are machines that automatically catch speeding. The point here is that if there arenāt cameras, drivers may feel less restricted.
Speed cameras are automated enforcement devices that record vehicles exceeding set speed limits. The speaker contrasts places with speed cameras versus places without them to explain why certain roads feel more āopenā for spirited driving.
"I mean like it's as good as it gets
Highway 12 in utah. Okay. Yeah"
Theyāre referencing Utahās Highway 12, a well-known scenic route in the Moab area. For car enthusiasts, itās the kind of road where route choice and driving conditions matter because of viewpoints, traffic, and road layout.
"Otherwise, you end up on a gravel road up to Schaefer
But just the in and out, um, those cliffs are skyscraper high, right next to the road"
A gravel road is not paved. It usually grips less than pavement and can feel bumpy, so it affects how you drive.
A āgravel roadā is an unpaved surface that typically has less traction than pavement and can be rougher on tires and suspension. In off-road-adjacent routes, itās a key factor for how comfortable and safe the drive will be.

Welcome to the Amantz podcast. I'm Dan. I'm stuffed up. I'm stuffed up. I'm still I'm getting better, but it's still fighting me
I don't like to toot our unhorned, but have you seen the new avance video? Yes, like our new sales video. Yes
Amazing our our media has kicked into overdrive. It's thanks to Daniel piker Carl's previous work
But obviously we have some serious talent on board at avance across the board
But our media has gone into overdrive and it's like even if you were not an avance member
You should check out the Amantz page. It's incredible. Well, we are I mean they are going we are going
National I mean we've got members now all over the country. They just started a new avance national group on Facebook. Yep
that I mean I
It's we like to work here for a reason, but that was just a fun surprise. We didn't even know about it
Like it right up. There's so much happening in it. We can't really keep up all the time. It's tough
They tell us. Yeah, I've been I've been gone out of the loop and you've been busy as hell
But yeah, we've it's been fun to see the boom of avance this year. It's it's just huge
I mean and I'm shouting out to everybody, you know with San Diego
Bit and getting huge Nicole down in in Scottsdale and Phoenix is getting huge. Everything's going great
I mean congratulations to all the people that work for avance. I think it's you know, Adam Adam had a great idea
Yeah, he did Adam absolutely had a great idea and cheers to him and the crew for doing such a good job of making it grow
He's got a great crew. That's really what comes down to I was laughing because I I got I got new plates for the Raptor
I saw that Raptor power. Yeah after a long dissertation and I pulled off my avance
Plate thing and it's one of like it's the original one that says like like swap or swap repeat drive. Yes
Drive swap repeat. Yeah, and it's all faded and I was like I forgot that used to be on there
But yeah back of the day. Yeah, I was going through I go through my closet
Like every few months or so and if there's anything that needs to go to good will
I just take it out
You know put it in a bag and get out there and I found my I still have my original avance shirt and before oh
Yeah, so I on my sleeve. I've never worn mine. Yeah, I like to wear mine
I don't wear it to like just around but I wouldn't there's any kind of event. You're an avance. Yeah
Speaking of that, I got the privilege and unfortunately you were unavailable to MC the online auction event
How did that go by the way? It was a lot of fun. It's great. It was at a secret location in Issaquah secret car collection
It's no no secret. It's a Steve Rimmer's collection, which was absolutely beautiful as always a good time there
You know
Everybody showed up, you know, it was a lot of fun to I think everybody in the room knew
What it took to sell a car on there, but we kind of dug into everything all the guests were were wonderful
Should I be put on an excellent event? I was so glad to be a part of it
Unfortunately, I had to leave a little early because I had to go down and help my parents pick up a new new toy
Which we'll talk about in a minute. Yeah, but it was a lot of fun. Yeah, you know
You know, I never get sick of people going hi Nick. Where's Dan? You know, so that's you know, that's so nice like yeah
Very wondering. Yeah, my dad was in the hospital. He's okay now recovering
I had to fly out suddenly for that so I was gone unexpectedly for a week and then I came back and immediately got sick
So that was fun. That's so weird. You run airplanes and you got sick afterwards. Yeah, we're luckily
I missed all the the TSA nightmare
So my flights were well, they were constantly delayed due to some not TSA issues and but it was other than that
It was pretty easy travel. So that was good. It was good to see my brother
Good to see my dad, of course, so my sister came down to so we were everything's okay. I'm your system came
Yeah, she brought her youngest Joshua. It was just a great kid. I love talking to him
I love all my brothers and sisters kids like they're really fun to talk to you and see them grow up
They've they're good people. Yeah, good people good parents, you know, it's just good to be around them
And I don't do it enough. Obviously they're across the country. So it's a little harder
but
Yeah, sorry for the delay on the show
We missed that week because I was out and then yeah, then I was immediately six
We're actually recording this on a Saturday because I was sick this week. I was like, I don't want to get you sick, Nick
Hey, I'd love to hang out with you, but you probably get sick
So I don't want you over in this confined space. So you sound stuffed off. You've been text messages. So yeah
Yeah, it's been a it's been a wild ride the last few weeks. So I missed the women's off-road event
That looks like it went awesome. It looked like it was awesome
We talked with a little bit last week
But yeah, it was another great event from Shabby putting that on and Chrissy helping and all that there's big crew out there helping
I know Michael was there Ben was there right in the towel
I mean, it was just a good group of people and it looks like a really good time
I haven't seen Chrissy and forever. I ran into her at the
Online auction event and I will say this is a minor thing. They launched all the new avance sweatshirts
I'm gonna see the photos. Yeah, it looks very comfy. So I gotta find myself one of those. So yeah
Yeah, so lots been going on if you're not an avance member. You should be by now
I don't know why you wouldn't be especially now that we're national the discounts alone would pay for it
You ever need new tires. It's gonna pay for itself instantly our Michelin deal and be of good rich deal is still in place
It's the best tire deal in the country regardless of a Black Friday sale or whatever
You can just be an avance member and save yourself enough to pay for your membership and you still get the griot's pack
So I don't know why you wouldn't be at this point
Yeah, we just we just put I told you like a couple weeks ago or a month ago
I put tires on Kate's car and went through discount here and it was just seamless. It was so easy. So yeah, yeah
You got a great little Carter tip. This is a simple one
But I love the simple ones because they're one of those. Huh, I never thought to ask that
So if anybody knows me and a lot of people know me, I think I'm kind of huge in Japan
Let's talk about the backstory of how we got this tip. Yeah. Yeah, that's where I was going with that
Good job
You know when I say when I start to talk about something it probably means I'm already like halfway down the road
Yeah, okay. Yeah, so month ago. I started saying I really missed my 450. Yeah, and I did I really did
I
I ended up acquiring a 2026 KTM 390 enduro are
I've never owned a KTM before and to be fair at the recording of this
I picked it up during the snowstorm in when we had a couple weeks ago
And I have yet it's yet to come out of the garage because it's been so nasty and things like that
And so I think I bought a really cool bike
I you know, I I
Talked to cool people on Facebook and I actually talked to a gentleman who had one and I went and sat on it to see if it was
You know the right thing and
This sounds really people are listening going well, wait a minute. Why wouldn't you ride it? Why wouldn't you drive it?
KTM's a little bit weird about you're not really allowed to test drive bikes before you buy them because if they're unlocked
When you buy it, they either have to be put into a demo fleet or they have to be put into your name
So I did a ton of research on this bike
It's a it's a thumper as they call that which will lead into our tip and I will then go a little deeper into the bike
Yeah, it's a thumper. Thumper is a big single cylinder
Nobody's gonna call our little monkeys or groms thumpers even though they technically are it's a single cylinder bike
Typically a large displacement single cylinder bike because and I say large displacement because you can typically hear them going
Yeah, it's not a balanced shaft in there. It's a very simple
Rudimentary design and not in a bad way. There's a reason the single cylinder dirt bikes are out there
They could deliver great low-end torque great mid-range torque as well and they
That simplicity helps them stay extremely robust and strong durable durable engines if you've ever you know
There's a reason there's all these old dirt bikes still on the road today
They don't require a lot of maintenance as long as you change the oil frequently
That's kind of it keep your air filter clean change oil often pretty much good to go
The clutch is gonna wear like anything
But even then constant oil changes are pretty much all these things need because like I said no balanced shaft very simple
Cam shaft design and there are dual overhead cam thumpers
But most of our single overhead cam super simple stuff and that thump thump thump thump thump thump of that single cylinder
Is hard to miss and you can feel it
That's the big thing they call a thumper for you can feel that hit when that and that cylinder fires
It's thumping you can feel it through the seat. I will say this one
KTM is a cult. Yes. It is those that ride KTM know why I have been immersed into it
I've gotten into a lot of the Facebook groups and because I did a ton of research on this because
This is sort of the same way with the 450 RL
I had done a ton of research
It was when it was coming out and I wanted to know about it with this bike
I've been doing a ton of research since last year
I was I started looking at KTM's probably last year about this time
Mm-hmm, and I was looking initially at like the 390 enduro R which I have and then this this is the same
If you know KTM, this is the same engine that's in the 390 Duke. They have a 390
Enduro bike that's the same frame and everything the enduro the enduro R
Which I have and then they have an adventure and I looked at the adventure because it came a little bit higher tower
Yep, a bit bigger tank, but I didn't see the value in an extra 1,600 bucks in it
Yeah, and also the 390 sport bike the RC 390 which is so this motor is
Absolutely proven to take a beating and the 390 sport bikes are actually very popular with the track
You'll see a lot of those going around but that 390 platform is proven. It's solid. It's
It's a great compromise of the 450 not quite as high-strung as the 450 from what I read
There's not a lot of torque low-end. I mean that bike if you want to get performance out of it
And everybody has said this every person has reviewed it every mic motorcycle magazine
The higher torques is where that bike wants to be yeah
And that's a there's actually a whole video from fort nine about this our favorite Canadian youtuber period is fort nine
He's his videos are fantastic for not just motorcycles, but bicycles and boats to in boats
Yeah, dude's awesome, but he has a whole video about how you're riding your motorcycle wrong
And that is your motorcycle engine is not a car engine. It is made almost every bike out there besides old Harleys
Are basically made to make power and torque mid to high everything so you hold that
Like if your bike red line, it's at 10 which would be relatively low for a lot of bikes
You ride it between like four and a half and eight constantly. That's your that's your cruising
RPM so you think about in that car you're like dude, that's really high in the RPM range. No, it's not
For a motorcycle, they're they're happiest and they run best in their mid to high RPM range you red line
I'm almost every shift
Um, and I mean I'm not talking about super sports. I'm talking about just thumpers and twins like you know
Basic dual dual sport bikes. They love that mid to high RPM range. They're made for it. It keeps the valves clean keeps the engines
Running well just sounds weird, but once you've ridden one you be like, oh, it's weird to get used to though
And people new riders mistake this mistake all the time
They think they got to go, you know, oh, you know, my bike red lines at 10
I'll shift it for because that seems really nice and easy and smooth like no
6 7
Like yeah, it's the technology. This is the first bike. I've ever owned with technology
Yeah, there's a lot and is a tunnel. First of all the first thing I've never had is it does not have a throttle cable
It's it's it's right by wire
The ktm dash is really nice. It links to my phone. It will do gps
it has it has a street and a
An off-road mode it it does a ton of stuff the exhaust system is very very low
There's no can that comes up. Yeah, which is kind of interesting. Everybody's like, oh
You're going to get water in there. It's going to cause an issue. Well, the engine is still at least a foot and a half above
Where no it's fine
So again, it seemed like a good a good point to be in there
And also another reason why I got into this bike is it's a lot of bike for $6,000 out the door. Oh, yeah
So ton of bike. Yeah, it's a ton of bike and it's competing with I mean with the new
CRF moto it's competing with
Like not necessarily the the power wise with the twin, but you know, that's more the 890 in the 1390, but um
I will say
Uh as as a novice motorcycle rider
I've always seen ktm as like I said a cult and I'm saying that is a good thing
And I always thought it would be kind of like the Seattle freeze trying to get in there
But I have received nothing but love and help and because I went in there and I was like, I'm thinking about this
What do you think and I got all the you know, everybody said the same thing about the torque?
I mean, which is understandable, but yeah rev it. Yeah rev the crap at it. You'll be have fun
So I'm looking forward to it. I think it's you know, it's not a bike that's going to spend a bunch of time on the street at all
Probably it's going to be it's it's going to be up in the mountains. It's going to be in moab things like that
But um, yeah explore moab explore the call
I just wanted a little bit more a little bit more oomph like I mean I I did trade in the ground for it
because
You got the monkey. I have the monkey. I love the grom. It was a great platform. I enjoyed riding it
I liked having the extra gear, but it wasn't when I went into the garage and I said I'm going to go for a ride
I always picked the monkey, which was interesting. Make sense. Yeah. Yeah, but yeah
Well, congratulations on that beautiful bike. I'm very happy for you. Yeah, I think you're gonna love it
I think it's like I said, I think it's a sweet spot. Um, it's not going to be as rev or
As far as should I say
As hardcore as the 450 and that's not a bad thing. Yeah, that's a more comfortable ride
Actually, and with that exhaust low, you got all that weight down low
It'll be easier to manhandle at low speed which the high bikes like the 450 or not
um
And I'm doing only two things to this bike. I am I put on hand guards like uh,
Acherbies, how do you say that?
so
I've heard this my whole life
Acherbies is what I always go with. Okay. That's what I've heard the most. I've heard people say a service
Okay, I put I put on non-bark buster hand guards. Yeah
And then I'm doing a tail tidy. That's it. I don't think the bike really needs anything and I'm good
I mean, I might eventually there's there's a little there's some some crash cages that they can do but just in case
Yeah, it really doesn't need anything. It doesn't. Yeah
The only thing I would even consider than that is exhaust and only cut to save weight not for power
Definitely anything else is just for weight. Well, there's been a crop of it exhaust. Yeah, that's
Even that it's like you don't want you don't because you don't want something super loud. No, no
I don't I don't want to think I mean you can just use your save like 15 20 pounds and thumper wise like it's
It's not real loud. I've started in the garage. That's about you know, they're quiet in the factory
It's uh, I'm excited, you know, it's gonna be a fun fun adventure and I think like
I'd like to get it out sometime with everybody else and
What the monkey's out there to have a little bit more power and and and kind of feel it out
I think it'll be a fun
I always feel like coming into the new year. I'm always learning to ride a motorcycle again
Because it like the skills kind of they come back quicker, but I don't uh, no, I'm in the same boat
It's I mean, I've been riding my whole life and I'm still in the same boat every time I get on a bike
I mean like, oh, yeah
Getting my body in the right position got it the hug the tanker. Like, yeah, there's always a quick little relearn curve
It gets quicker is the more I do it. But yeah
Um, before we go on to the other big reveal, uh, you're outie. I'm assuming is back from edge balton
Atch a beautiful job. Thank you to them
s-tech everywhere
They did a wonderful job. Uh, we're working. This is what I love about metropolitan
They're not afraid to sit there and say we couldn't figure this out, but we're gonna figure it out
Um, yeah brand new car brand new car brand new model. They had never I don't think they'd ever seen one before
Um, yeah, they changed the s5 this year. So it's yeah, it's a brand new carpet
The uh, window seals are a little tight
Oh to the point where they were not have they didn't feel like their quality the quality that they put out there
Would be would come through in the window tint. We tried to tint the windows
So they're they're doing some research for me to figure it out. But I've tinted windows
I understand this and the fact of if if those seals are so tight, which is great
You want tight seals on your windows quiet for quiet and things like that. But um, they didn't feel like they could uh,
right now
With the way it was without really disassembling a bunch of stuff, which can never be good
So they're doing some research for us and then it's going to go back and get
But but the whole front end is is is clear broad again
I know we talk about this all the time to be clear on this car
Uh, it's it's sort of my dad's work car fun a little bit of a fun car for my parents. Um, what was
You'll know why in a second. Yeah
So and we just leased it
We didn't we didn't know, you know
The Maserati went in and that will be kind of a part of this story in the fact of what we're telling next
We wanted to replace that. Uh, the Maserati was
If you don't know again, I've said this I think under times
I have a business with my my parents my dad and I have worked together forever
He's in the he's a financial planner. Uh, he's you know, a tax deferred long enough. His attacks never paid
Everything is all above board and legal but a lot of things are owned inside the corporation the Maserati was and being a a
person on the board of the
The company aka there's only three of us my mom my dad and me
Things the Maserati was owned inside of there
We needed to replace it because they needed two cars because they're like going in different directions
So the Audi the new s5 was the the appropriate thing the ironic part is we ordered it
It came way quicker than we thought and the day we took delivery of it
They they introduced the new rs5 which is coming which I think I'm gonna let it come out
I was talking to my dad. I think that would be a fun replacement for this not to talk about replacing car already
Right, but down the road down the road. This is a neat car. I will say this. This is the first car
That we've owned that I sat in and it's taken me a lot to figure it out
Yeah, there's a lot in it is such a lot. I mean amazing. This is our first Audi
We've we've generally owned BMWs throughout all of my life. Um, pretty much in Subaru's
the Maserati was a great car and
Everybody's like, oh, you finally got rid of it, but didn't break down it did not break down
It went on to a loving home. It's actually in New Mexico now of random things
But it was just high mileage and it was time for something new kind of thing. So
Along those lines. Yes
So my dad and I have shared a passion for cars my whole life and we've had the triumph and we've had all these fun cars
And my beloved mother has sat by and and really supported all those dreams
And the one thing that she has wanted throughout her whole life
Is she has wanted a van she wanted some type of sprinter van when I was a kid
She wanted one of the Westphalia
Vans and things like that and it just
I mean, how do I put this my parents have a relationship where if my mother wanted something
She got it because she deserved it. She worked hard things like that. Yeah
Well, she you know when when we got rid of the Maserati she sat down with all this and she says look, um
I have been researching sprinter vans overland vans
For years and she has and she says I want one and this is what I want and what she presented to us was a storyteller
It's a sprinter 144 storyteller beast mode. Yeah, and if you know anything about these
Beast mode it was storyteller is you check one box and it comes with everything. Yeah
And again, so we had this conversation probably at well
It was actually actually at Christmas and she said I'd really like to do this
And what we'd like to basically replace the Maserati with this and so my dad and I had sat down and we took her down to the
the RV show at
At the Tacoma dome and it ended up talking to who this is somebody that's going to be on the podcast as soon as I can get
Him in the same room
His name is Andrew. He's the one of the co-founders of storyteller. They're out of alabama
One of the nicest kindest guys you'll meet and we sat for three hours at the show talking to him
And specking this van and by specking it. I mean talking about you know
The only options really are if you want a bathroom or if you want like a drop-down shower and she wants everything and so that we got
so
We took delivery of that last Saturday. Um, we ordered it, uh, probably beginning of january and they they got it here in no time
It's literally it's gonna we're gonna be keeping it at one driver's club because it's that's a little hard to keep a vehicle
Like this my parents live in a condo and the people around my house
I'm pretty sure the people around my neighbors think i'm a drug dealer right now
Because I've had it at my house doing doing some specs on things like that and I've had it out front
I've had at the raptor the Subaru
The the tuned bikes and the the triumph and the people are driving by just and literally my neighbors are driving by out there
They're going what in the hell is going on there?
um
It is
the ultimate off-road
Uh luxury hotel on wheels. Yeah, it's beautiful. It's in the driveway right now. It is a stunning vehicle and it is
Beast mode heavy-duty bumpers bfg ko 3s skid plates sliders everything. Yeah, and there's still more to come
Uh, you're still waiting for some it's also about the stuff that's coming for it. So, um
I I am because of what we do right my mom, you know
It comes with everything you need to basically go anywhere minus like you're not going to go rock crawling with this
You're not going to be telling stuff
But I mean it comes with heating air conditioning bed
Every and it's full a full kc light package. I added starlink
We're i'm putting a winch on the front of i'm having actually i want i want a huge shout out when not sponsored this
Um
Johnson rv down in dakoma. Oh, yeah, they're the they're the storyteller dealer did a wonderful job
They've worked with us through this whole thing
And they're they're going to be doing some of the upgrades because it it makes sense and warranty wise
I'm doing a front winch. I'm it already comes with an invader bumper
I'm having him add the winch and i'm doing a slide out deck out of the rear
Uh, because again the people are going to be musing this more than my wife and I are my parents and they're this is they're
They're never going to retire. My dad will retire six days after he's dead. I will get emails from him from the right
I know those are his words not mine
Um, this is their thing. I think I think there's the first trip for them
Uh in may they're going to either yellowstone or I mean my mom wants to to get out and explore things. They're in their
Mid to late 70s
We're making some modifications for them so that she can get in and out of it some drop down steps and some things like that
But there's not a lot I have to do everything that I'm doing to it or adding to it
Is stuff that I'm prepping for them to have like
Brian dallas helped me reached out to yankum ropes. I've got a
kinetic rope coming for that, you know, which was a whole thing because
Again, I'm used to buying those things for my truck and this is a whole different weight
Oh, yeah, and things like that quarter ton, right? Yeah, three quarter ton. I mean, I got a soft shackles for it
I've got recovery boards for it. The chances of them needing this are very slim, but I want to have it in case
Um, and by the way, um, yeah, if you ever had to do a recovery on a vehicle like that
You'll be the it'll pay for itself and if you ever use it once
Well, and I'm hoping and he doesn't know this yet, but if he listens, he'll know this
I'm hoping brandon ben powell will will kind of he's he's now teaching classes
And I'm hoping to enroll my parents in a class fantastic to kind of help them with that because I think it's important
My parents are savvy enough and my mom has proven to me
That her knowledge base on this is is way above
Even what I knew she taught me about this which was fun
From an aspect of me kind of always teaching her stuff. So
Just doing some minor things like I said this thing has heating air conditioning hot water
I mean full shower bathroom
The one thing I had the one one thing that came with it
She didn't like was a cassette toilet, but as I told her she's never going to have to touch that so it doesn't matter
So that's a you and dad job. That's absolutely me and dad job and it's and that's
I was surprised on how not hard that is and the fact that you can basically take that cassette out
And just dump it in a toilet toilet like you can't dump it in a river, of course, but yeah, yeah, so
Um, we're really excited. Uh
It was it was it was funny because I've kept it a secret you knew about it
And there's about one or two people that knew and todd sanders beat it out of me last weekend
Because he's like, where are you going? Um, and I kind of kept you the secret
Unfortunately, my wife and I went out last night and had mexican
And she had a couple of margaritas and then posted a photo on facebook
So it kind of leaked on the internet. Yeah last night, which was fun
but um
I'm looking forward to kind of exploring some stuff. Uh, Kate and I our first trip
We're really planned in it and we're we're heading to walla walla to see uh jelly roll
Nice and then we're going to silverwood. So, you know, I'm heck. Yeah, I'm I'm interested to see this life because obviously, you know
I will be taking it off road, but
A lot of times it's on road and we're going to be parking in our v parks and things like that
Which I think is kind of a fun experience, you know, the koas and things like that. So
It's it's going to be a new adventure. Um, and I'm really excited to see my parents kind of do something like this
They've always been adventurous people. Um, I've spoken about before my mom's had health issues throughout my life with chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia
So when she says she wants something we do it and we do it fast. We do it, you know, fun
So I think this is going to be a lot of fun. Um, and I'm looking forward to it. It's a really beautiful truck
I mean, you can call it van. Yeah, a van truck. I don't yeah, yeah
Yeah, it's the yeah big tires sliders. It's it's built ready to go
There's so many trails that we've done that that thing will be able to easily tackle
Obviously comes to mind because it's built for everything off road not just rock crawling. It's going to thelma and louise point
I don't I don't know if it'll make it there this year, but it is going to thelma and louise point
It's something I want to show my parents. I want to show my wife
They've never I mean they my mom always laughs about the fact that I talk about moab all the time
And I have now told my wife. I said I want to be buried in moab. I mean you can you can cremate me and throw me off a cliff
I don't care. I that's where I want to live
Check the wind first Kate. Absolutely. Yeah, it comes back. Yeah, I'm coming back. We don't need a uh
Also, that's illegal. Don't ever do that
But yeah, I I think it's uh, I'm really excited
for their excitement and it's funny because
Do you remember when you were a kid and your parents would get you something for Christmas or your birthday and it needed
Batteries and you just could not wait for them to get the batteries in the thing and so that you could play with it
That's my mom right now
She's like
Because we got the van and there was a slight issue that I filled up the tank and there was a cracked valve that they needed to fix
And it was some leaking some water, which you know, they they fix it
Again going to the coma to drop things off is not the thing to do
But my mom's like a kid right now. She's like, when is it back?
Did you finish what you need to do like and so
Literally, I'm leaving it. I was working on it yesterday on starlink
I had an event this morning with raptor junkies and then
Uh was doing this and it's going to driver's club where then she will then
She has bought all this stuff and she's gonna move all of her stuff in and really make it hers and
Yeah, I'm so excited and we're gonna work with a partner of ours as well. Uh, yes, and I forgot about that. Thank you. Um,
many many
God, I can't even think it was a year ago about that. Yeah, we talked to the guys from inhabit
Down in portland who do mats for the porches for these vans and all that and custom mats. They do custom
Uh dish sets and things like that. Um, nice stuff. I reached out to them
And they are helping us immensely. Uh, and this is something they do for everybody and the fact that if you order from them
You can take your van there and they will install everything for it
So my mom and I and I think my dad may be coming to next thursday or driving down
To portland for the day and what inhabit's going to take the van and they're going to do their whole thing interior mats
Cover everything cup holders
We got the whole package and then I got my mom
There it's a really cool thing. It fits the drawer and it's got plates and silver and everything in one drawer, you know, because
Space is an issue. Yeah, you you really think about space. That is another thing. I didn't tell you
Where i'm putting in a shelf in up above where you sit so we have more storage up there. Oh nice, okay, so um
So it's going to be a lot of fun. I was it's fun to be able to work with people that we've talked to and
Uh, john's been great. I've been emailing him back and forth since january and we've been trying to figure this out and so
Um, I'm really excited to go down there and actually see their shop because when we talked to them, we weren't there
Obviously, so right. Yeah, that'll be really cool. It'll be fun. Yeah, you can take some photos where you're down there, please
Oh, yeah, I will believe me. I'm I'm excited to see it. I've seen photos of other people that doing it
And and I cannot say enough about these mats. They're wonderful
That's why we had them on the show because we wanted to talk about them
That's product we believe in and they they do them for sports cars too and they are
Incredible. I think they look especially good in sports cars. Yes, they do especially a good Porsche. Yeah, exactly
How was the rector junkies event this morning?
I've never been to one of those another by
um
It was fun. Uh, it it's
First of all, brian dallas is safety dad
I was not aware not that we ever do anything stupid
But he he switches a switch and he's so serious and so good at it as far as and he put on a wonderful presentation for for
For towing people out and things like that. I'd never met with the raptor junkies. They're really an interesting group
Uh of individuals. It's it's a lot of hard-working people that have everything from gen ones to
Brand new raptor ours. There's there's a lady that I brian and I've got to talk about
Getting you on the show. She is probably five foot nothing. Okay
Maybe 110 pounds drives a raptor r that is fully kitted out and has every sticker from every raptor event
From around the country. She takes it everywhere. Awesome. And she's just you know, I mean full lights
I mean, she knows what she's talking about too
It was a fun. It was just
It was the first time I've done something that is raptor specific that wasn't the raptor school, right?
So, um, I had I've been in obviously a lot of the forums and talking to them
brian and I were the only ones with uh with uh ranger raptors, but
it was fun to kind of talk to people because
A lot of these people in these groups have gen ones which they have kept running which is really kind of cool
Like that's the original svt
V8's and I mean one lady's about to take it and she's going to go do like 7600 miles around the country
She's got this trip and she's going to hit raptor on the rock. She's going to hit all this stuff
So it's kind of a fun. It was a fun event
I'd never been up in that olympic forest the olympic capital capital force the capital force there. Yeah
off of rock candy campground there and then
Uh, not a lot of elevation, but really pretty roads like you could take your hunday up there. It's not like
You know, it'd be it's if you know what you're doing, but these guys were really safe
We're on the radio
Everybody was you know, you were radaring when you had to go to a certain turn like if you're taking a left
You're like car number 12. I'm taking a left
So make sure the person behind you saw it like it was very well organized
It's good
It took me by surprise because i'm so used to us going out in the fact that like did you take a left back there?
Oh, yeah, I guess I kind of but that's just us. This is not an actual event. So yeah, three four cars
The leisure management was fun. This was 20 cars. There was no issues. Nobody was doing donuts. Nobody was spraying rocks
They had good stops
A good good communication wonderful pre-meeting
So I have to give but a lot of props to him. So nice. That's good. We'll just meet fun people that do the same things
This is the first event I've been able to go to
It's just it's just seen fun and I I got it on the calendar and it was it was well played or well done
I should say well played well played well played sir. So yeah, that is a lot
Yeah, it's been it's been busy. Um
Again, I'm gonna say it again. I'm just so excited to kind of see my mom
Live her dream like and I mean, yeah, and I'm and I'm so thankful that my dad
Is able to provide that, you know, it's just it's fun to see and you and I have done a lot
So you can contribute a lot that's been I've I've enjoyed that too
Um, I think it kind of threw them off like when we ordered it and my dad's like, yeah
He's like we'll figure this out. He's like but anything that needs to be done
Just talk to him and the guy's like uh your son. He's like, yeah, it's like it's his too
I was laughing and I was like I was like, I'm just kidding out my inheritance. That's all
Kidding out my hair, you know, I gotta look at it that way. So no proper diesel in there. That'll be a long running vehicle
I'm not gonna get anywhere fast. Um, but you don't buy something like that. It goes somewhere fast
That's another thing. That's another thing I'm doing. Um, and that's actually my mom has asked to do it
It comes with a 25 gallon fuel tank. We're gonna up it to a 50. Perfect. Um, not that you know, that just
Linked into your fuel stops like
We're not gonna be out living off the grid like at the end of the day. No, but having a big tank is so nice
It is well, especially at six dollars a gallon. Yeah 50 a gallon now. So, yeah
Yeah till you get to Idaho
Yeah, it's like 450 or not even four dollars a gallon. I think for diesel I'm I'm I'm hiding the fact less and less
That I don't want to be in Washington anymore
I know that's a surprise to you. Yeah, the taxes. That's all it is. It just doesn't like I said, it doesn't
Washington is beautiful. It's wonderful. It's just it doesn't really fit the lifestyle we're living as much anymore
Because we want to drive more do more stuff outside because I can't afford the lifestyle anymore
Yeah, so it's that damn millionaires tax. That's affecting me
Because no, yeah
No, uh
I think it's gonna be fun. I I'm I'm excited for adventure. I'm excited to go on adventures like when I was a kid before my mom got sick like
We I did a ton of like backpacking and being up in the forest and things like that and seeing that spark in my mom's eye is really kind of
Lit the spark in me. So I will never forget. It was toward the end of my mom's life and uh, but we went through I took
My dad and I had been through before when I got my land cruiser
but my mom had never been to moab and um, I took her through arches and canyon lands for the first time
And she was blown away
Because she'd never seen anything like it in her life and I was so glad I had that time with her toward the end of her life
I'm not saying your mom is at the end of her life. I'm just saying like that
It doesn't what do you know?
It doesn't get any less impactful as you get older to go to those places as the first time
Because you will never see anything like them anywhere else in the world
And so if you haven't done that yet and you're listening to this show, please put it on your sooner than later bucket list
There are so many beautiful places right here in the us
That are so accessible that you don't need a fortune to go do
Stay at the koa. There's no bad place to stay at moab. I always say the worst place to stay at moab is still better than any place
That's not in moab
So
Yeah, anywhere you want out there, but man, that's one of those in colorados right next door
Like you can just you'll get there and be like I should have planned this for a month
Yeah, I'm excited
um
So I said earlier that I got new plates for the raptor. Yeah raptor power say raptor power
Took 24 hours for somebody to say something negative to me in a parking lot
That's all i'm gonna say
Yep, how is raptor power?
Damn those supremacist dinosaurs
Somebody asked me is that racially motivated and I went
One no and two
Do you think the state of washington like you should have seen the dissertation I had to write like it is a raptor
I have a radio. It could be repeater
If you don't know the story and I actually posted this in raptor yesterday, which and my life loves it
My wife is not a car person. She supports my habit. She goes with me. She's yeah, she's great
Um, I don't know what it was but she took the raptor one day and I said, you know, it's different than your subaru
Have fun. Have fun
She comes back in
And she's got this like literally shitty grin on her face. Yeah, and I go
How was the truck and she just goes and she goes raptor power
She goes i'm slipping off teslas and prius is raptor power and I was like that's going on a license plate
So yeah, that's where that came from. So
How much do you want to have to want to be angry? I don't get it as a person looked at me and says that racially motivated and I went
Less than 24 hours. It's been on the truck. I was literally how oh, I did I did I was just like
But I just obviously it's not but yeah, I under here's let me put this obviously say it's not I know how they got there
That's all I'm saying so that's funny. Yeah
Yeah, not for that person, but yeah
Also, and this is a general thing in life. It's okay to keep your opinion yourself. Right. Yeah
so there's a
um
a ith am I the asshole or a m a a ita is what that stands for it's a whole subreddit
So I was at Costco today. I uh, I went and got gas on the raptor and the f-150
I was in redmond. I had to run to redmond and I came back and I was like, I'll get gas on here
I'm sitting in line this lady's in front of me and we're at the the far if you're looking at the redmond cosco
We've got like, I don't know six or eight lines of pumps plus times three. Yeah
Yeah, times three deep
So I got there and there's this lady in front of me and she's the the middle is open like wide open
So I'm like waiting for go waiting for go and she's at least a car length back
Probably even more from the even the white line to stop
So I give her a quick honk like not not along with just a quick like hey, you can you can go she sits there doesn't do anything
So I just drove around her
F-150 rapper mind you parallel parked between the two cars and she was in a newer Honda CRV
And
I was like, I don't know what you're doing. I don't know if you're confused whatever
I pumped and left by the time she was still sitting in line
And I had a half tank. So I did I mean, yeah, that's still a lot of gas. Oh, yeah, that's 18 gallons
in the truck
and I'm like
The lady in front looked at me like I was a jerk and the lady behind looked like I honked I waited she's
Has no depth perception and shouldn't be driving anyway because like I could have fit my truck between her
I could parallel park between her and the car in front of her too
And the white line. I mean not there's the car and dance not that good at parallel parking
But I was just like
What are you doing?
I and I was like, how long am I supposed to wait here?
Still you figure out that you can't parallel park and it's a left hand parallel park fine
But I parked my f-150 raptor in it
I have found especially at that Costco and this is a thing if you don't know that when you're waiting at the pumps
There is a sign up there that that shows red if somebody's at the pump. Yeah, it tells you a lot of people don't know that exists
A lot of people don't know what it means
But and and there has always been that
Stigma when you're at Costco and the fact of like the person that's closest to you is getting gas and the person in front of
Them leaves like should I go around them?
Is it more work for me to go around back up and then they're gonna have to back up?
Or do you just wait for that person to finish and then two people can pull up right so but I get that like
There's a lot of distracted. I'm gonna call it distracted drivers, right?
Yeah, that's why I just gave the quick honk like hey, maybe shouldn't see your center phone or something
That's fine. Pull up your membership. Like I'm not
I'm at Costco. I'm in a hurry. I'm not going there to like get out of my way. Yeah. I was just like
Okay, anyway, I mean and if you've been to Costco before on a weekend
It's everybody who has never been in public before never been in a grocery store before has no
Spatial awareness has no depth perception and there's never used money before and they're all in front of you and yeah
Stopping on the aisle. So it's like there's this one video of this guy like throwing his cart
It's I went in the Costco and I was like, oh man. I was like I kind of get it but
Oh, I don't I
I'm kind I don't move run around Costco, but if you step in front of me
I'm hitting you. It's not I'm I will do my best to slow down, but right. I'm gonna hit you. Yeah
Yeah, I was just like with my cart by the way not my car. Yeah. Yeah, this is a yeah
But I had by the time I had gassed I had left before she had even pulled forward still
Yeah, that's I mean and she just didn't realize that it was empty open or she just didn't care
I don't know if she I honestly don't know if she knew how to get the car in there
It's during the space between her and the car in front of her. Yeah, like I literally could have put my truck in there
I'm not being facetious. I literally could have parked in front of her as well. So I was like, I don't know what you're doing
I'm not gonna wait for you to figure it out. I'm just gonna get my gas
I have realized through our time in the car community. There's a lot of people that drive
That it scares them to drive that they've passed the test and done those things obviously
Yeah, new drivers new drivers
But even elder drivers are people that just are scared to be driving a car but by necessity they have to
And I have run into those people that it's just and I'm not saying that's what that is
I mean, it was just weird. Obviously, you know distracted drivers are in issue right now and um, you know
If you don't know, there's a lot of crackdown on people who are driving cars that couldn't read street signs
That's there have been 17 000 truckers taken off the streets of america. That's good
Um, unfortunately that we're given the circumstances to pass a a language test to be able to read signs
I'm not I'm not picking on anybody but that should seems like it seems like an obvious requirement for a driver
Yeah, I guess safe for safety sake through regardless of where you're from like you should be able to there's a little especially for a trucker
Yeah, there's a lot. Yeah, there's been several unfortunate events, but yeah
Um, yeah, I don't know it's it's I've I've run into several people that I've talked to actually through some of the dental stuff
I did I had a dental I was working with in his hygienist
She's terrified of driving but there's no buses to where he where they where they work and she's forced to drive
And she just sort of gets in her car and does the I forgot what she called herself like a mini mouse
She gets herself in a little mini mouse and she just sort of putts along
She goes I don't like to drive but I have to do it and so yeah
I don't understand it either, but um, it's such a trainable thing though. I guess that's that's my point
Driving is a big responsibility fear is a powerful motivator though. It's the problem. Yeah
I think if there's anything like that though, like I mean go see our friends at performance
Yeah, oh, I agree go do an autocross day for an or an instructional day
Like those are those are the people that need to go do those things. It's not because oh you want to erase car driver
It's like no, that's a great thing. We've talked about this
Endlessly like new drivers should always go to schools like proformance. I wish it was a huge huge advantage for a driver
That's so much better of a driver so much more comfortable in their car
So much better than what drivers said. Well, I don't barely exist now, but what red asphalt
Yeah, if you know, you know, yeah, do you see that uh, brian convinced meg into buy that jeep? I did
Took a lot of convincing. I have a bad feeling that jeep is going to make its rounds around every
It's a great buy. Oh, it's so I mean, I know I know it well
This is a previous search and rescue used grand Cherokee. Uh, it's really built
Perfect, it's the perfect off-roader because it's built enough to get you places
And for you not to care about the pinstripes. It was built by a lawyer
Yeah, who cross I've know I actually I've known the lawyer longer than I've lived in this town
Who built it and he crosses every t in dots every i it was an amazing build
And we talked about it brian bought two vehicles from search and rescue because they were selling
He kept one of them and then he sold the megans somehow ended up with it
Much better project car than her former fiat. So I mean congrats to that who
Who she had somebody coming to the house with a trailer to buy it and still didn't buy
Congrats to the local high school that's now getting I think that's awesome
I think that's actually a great idea
I would like to see meggan spend her money more responsibly by putting you know suspension on the monkey, but
That's just me right. Yeah, I agree with that as well
Less over the handlebars. Yeah. Well, that actually the handlebars came to her. That's true. Yeah. Yeah
But yeah, I'm glad that it's some with somebody who will use it
Yes, that you never want that's a perfect vehicle for that
I'm sure it'll need work and you know, it's an older grand Cherokee
But talk about a perfect vehicle to use off-road and I have to say this
If you've seen it on her social media, obviously making the good friend of ours
She has that beautiful c10 that her parents bought her. Her gifts gifted her
I shouldn't say bought her they gifted it to her for all the work she's done for them and helping them
And she just had to did a huge photo shoot with it with the big dumper from the mariners, right? Yeah, so cool
So cool to that. Yeah
Yeah
What else we got we should ask her. What's an audience question of the week? Oh an audience question of the week
By the way, thank you for your responses to your ultimate car. Uh-huh. We got some really great responses. Oh, yeah
I know I've said it before thank you for all your responses to the the four
The forerunner thing really set a bunch of people into a great conversation
And I say that because nobody got mad everybody knew that we weren't being mad about it
But everybody that drove forerunners and loves them like we do. Yeah, yeah
I think yeah, we are a forerunner fan. We love that engagement. I know somebody who's probably getting a new one
Maybe this weekend. Oh, cool. Yeah, hopefully. Uh, yeah, Pete Nielsen reached out again, uh on google text
Yeah, happy most beautiful car. I like the p4. This is I actually totally forgot about this
But the p3 was the original factory car. The p4 was the car for customers
I like the e-type 2 but I like the low drag coupe the best. Yes
Uh, I also love the mirror, but the old original kuntosh. No flares the 70s model
Uh, very good too. Yeah, that's the more pure. Um, love ass ensue, but I think the dp 214 is the best
Um, I'll have to look that one. I'll show it to you. I had to look it up too. I was like, which one is it?
dp 214 you'll know it as soon as you see it. I was gonna say I
I probably know it. I just very well actually as soon as you see it because it's been here. Oh
Oh, yeah, that one. So I that's why okay. Yeah, that is a gorgeous astin martin
It's funny because again, we talk about this design theology. This sort of has that
Doesn't don't yell at me. It does not look like a 250 gto
But it has some a lot of styling elements that you see from that era looks a little squished. It's like a squished
Yeah, yeah, I think the 250 gto is far more curvy. I'm not saying they look alike
I'm just saying there are some design elements of that era that this car shares and it is truly beautiful
Uh, I think it's astin's go. Yes. I do think this is more beautiful than the db 5
I think it is less recognizable to
The layman because it wasn't a bond car
So if you're not in the cars you if you're in the movies, you see the db 4 db 5 and you're like, oh
It's james bonds car. Yeah
Uh, as far as the questions
And we I think we posed it before but i'm curious just on some answers
Where what is your road? What is the road that you will always go drive if you have an extra half hour?
Half a day
I mean and i'm talking nationally a lot of people here will say, you know, hype go out the high bridge go up to
What's the one along the water near bellingham?
Chucking it chucking it
On a good day
Yeah, I was well
I still don't know how we did that on chucking out that day with the with the mclaren like
We there was no traffic and it was just a perfect day 675 lt
One of the best cars ever driven you were a pretty good example
I'm talking about these roads that like and i'm talking pavement dirt wherever it is
What's your road? Is it driving up pikes peak? Is it going down schaefer schaefer?
Switchbacks off switchback off road. Um, what's your road? Like where where would you be?
Like if somebody said i'm going to give you a car and you can any and let's what road are we going to?
What's the first one that pops into your highway 12 utah? There it is. See yeah, okay all the way through
Zion to brice
to
Tori utah that whole section that's that's my road and i'm going to do it in the off season when it's
Borderline freezing
So if it's not snowing on the peak of that path, there's a path you have to go through
Which it often doesn't it snows quite a bit and then it just doesn't anymore
But this this season was perfect for it
Best drive i've ever been on in my life will always be the best drive ever been in my life
I was the passenger this time in the r8 and it was
Just heaven we saw one car
And we're talking this is a 250 mile drive
We passed one car and that car was more than happy to just be out of our way. I didn't give a crap
There's nobody out there people looked at like shown this way. Yeah, and it's just that is I still think that's the best road
In the country
Possibly the world and I say the world because there are more beautiful drives through the alps that i've been on and things
like that that are stunning
What's the famous pass that the hotel in the corner that everybody goes to?
Um in europe yeah in europe there's like oh
I can't remember the name of it. Everybody's going to two seconds ago
Yeah, I say I can post a picture of it
There's a great picture of the gt3rs from drivers club before when he went duct delivery. He went there
It's because there are it's the u.s. There's no speed cameras. There's limited police
It's kind of one of that you go through a bunch of towns that are don't screw around in our town
We don't really care what you're doing
Um
Our speed laws are open our roads are empty
It's it's a wide road relatively for how long it is there are narrow spots, but a lot of european roads are very very tight
um, so there's
It's one of the it changes scenery five or six times
Not just you think utah you think you either think utah and you think bryce or zion
But you don't realize the mountains and the trees if you're from you know
That northern utah area like park city. Yes. No, but it's not really that terrain. It's you get mountains. You get desert
You get incredible rock formations. It's goes cedar breaks
zion
bryce canyon
You can go all the way to moab on that same route. It's just in that there's a
If you do the long version of this road you end up in a straight section where I don't care what you're driving
You can top it out
You might want to look for planes
But there are so many like you can make a weekend or a week of just that drive
And you'll see if you go in the off season because you're not going to go hiking in 30 degree weather
Maybe you are yeah, you can you can make this a whole week event and see five cars
I mean like it's as good as it gets
Highway 12 in utah. Okay. Yeah
What is the road between moab?
and colorado
The highway no the the back road we took that we go onion creek and where the bronco
hotel is
Oh the bronco off rodeo that. Oh, uh, is that also part of highway 12 that highway 12? It might be hold on
That's a great call. That is one of the most beautiful roads in the entire world. No, it's 128. So 128. Yeah
That road
But that might be the most beautiful road place I want to sit and you will understand this is after the bronco rodeo
There's that little black cafe that we've been to a couple of times
Yep, that porch with the car sitting out front with the valley. Yep, and that road out there. That's where I'd be
Yep, and then like literally, you know, it's if you know, you know, obviously, but um,
That road just that's where I'd be
Yeah, I can see that. Um, the road the road out to um
The road out to Schaefer switchbacks at moab. It's it's an in and out on pavement
Otherwise, you end up on a gravel road up to Schaefer
But just the in and out, um, those cliffs are skyscraper high, right next to the road
So you'll see people rock climbing and everything going out to the the the ponds. Yeah going out to the potash ponds that road is
Like every social it is a loop. Yeah technically it just goes to gravel into the park. Yeah. Yeah, you go right at the canyon lands
Yeah
That is probably the most beautiful in and out road I've ever done. Yeah, there's another one called salmon creek
Uh out in Idaho that is a beautiful in and out road
And there's so many but that highway 12 in utah is the best sports car road period
Yeah, um, that is the one where I was famously in the gtr and got smoked by the two p ones
Oh, I was coming. I was coming down. Yeah. Yeah, and I I was in the my black gtr
And two p ones passed me like I was standing still
Well, I was full tilt up a hill
And they showed me how fast a p one is compared to a gtr
I was humbled
It was awesome. You learned something. You didn't know you need to learn. Yeah, there you go. Yeah, and they that was a
Thunderous beautiful noise. Oh, I bet. Yeah, I bet definitely a peak life moment right there. Yeah, what's what's your road?
What's your road? That's I guess the best question. All right. Well, we'll wrap it up for this week after
I mean, I think I've spent enough this week, so I'm gonna go back and go back to work
So uh for this episode the avance podcast is always I'm nick and I'm dan and don't just get there. Enjoy the drive
