Good afternoon and welcome to the car show on 55 KRC.
05:11
I am Dane Donovan taking all of your car questions.
05:14
The number to call 513-749-5500, that number again, 513-749-5500, that is my favorite intro.
05:25
It's a perfect intro.
05:28
It's a beautiful Saturday afternoon and I'm here to answer your car questions.
05:32
So again, if it's a maintenance question, if it's an oil change question, if it's
05:37
a, you know, you've got, everybody's got car problems, right?
05:43
Even on these newer cars, even these cars that are two or three years old, you've got questions.
05:49
So that's what I'm here for again, here every Saturday from one to two to take your
05:54
I'm again, Dane Donovan from Donovan's Auto and Tire Center and love to hear from
06:00
Phone lines are wide open.
06:01
Again, I'm going to get out the phone number is 513-749-5500, that number again, 513-749-5500,
06:08
again, it's a gorgeous Saturday afternoon.
06:12
So after, after I leave here, I have to immediately, I literally have to run out of the building,
06:19
pick up my son and he's got a baseball game.
06:21
So he's in a, a wooden bat tournaments this weekend.
06:28
So you think three days off your, oh man, we'll be in great shape.
06:33
We'll get some stuff done around the house.
06:35
Now, last night was a baseball game this afternoon's a baseball game.
06:39
Tomorrow's a baseball game and it's got to, he's got to, he's got to try to fit in.
06:44
Well, he's supposed to serve at church and have a game, but we don't know when this
06:50
So it's the, I might, I might not have anything to do on Monday.
06:56
But, but again, it's Memorial Day weekend and want to shout out to all those who
07:04
paid the ultimate sacrifice for this country.
07:09
I appreciate everybody that's in all military police, first responders.
07:15
And but again, it's, it's about Memorial Day weekend and those who, again, who've made
07:19
the ultimate sacrifice.
07:20
So I want to send, you know, just really do appreciate what people do for this country
07:25
and keeping us safe and protecting us.
07:28
So, but again, the number to call 513-749-5500.
07:33
It was a little, a little steamy this week and, believe it or not, so then my new location
07:41
that I purchased in Norwood at the corner of Montgomery Road in Dana, it was formerly
07:46
called Auto Foreign.
07:48
And so it's, it's still auto foreign.
07:50
It just, there's a Donovan's in front of it.
07:51
So it's Donovan's auto foreign, man, again, what a great customer base, what a phenomenal
07:57
And like I said, the owner was just looking to retire.
08:00
And so I stepped in and, man, I've been very happy and very pleased with, you know, the,
08:08
the decision and being able to, I can't tell you how many people have, you know, have come
08:15
in auto foreign customers and just said, hey, thank you for being here.
08:19
Thank you for opening back up and being able to serve our vehicle, service our vehicles.
08:24
We really do appreciate it.
08:25
And, you know, that really means a lot to me, you know, whether it's a Donovan tire customer
08:31
or a new auto foreign customer, the fact that these, you know, a lot of people are like,
08:35
hey, I've been coming here for 20, 10, 15 years and I just wouldn't, I wouldn't know
08:41
what to do if you guys were permanently closed.
08:44
So I had a young lady yesterday just said, hey, thank you for opening this place
08:49
And, you know, that means a lot to me.
08:51
I do enjoy, again, I've said it multiple times.
08:54
I do enjoy what I do and I want to continue to grow and expand and, and, and again, service
09:02
I mean, that's all I know what to do.
09:04
That's all I, that's all I've wanted to do and it's important to me and, and so great
09:10
So really, really do enjoy it.
09:13
Again, the number to call 513-749-5500.
09:17
Hey, John, welcome to the car show.
09:21
Well, yeah, thank you for taking my call.
09:24
I've got a, I've got an older Jaguar.
09:26
It has classic insurance and I take care of it.
09:31
It's totally pristine, no rust, garage kept all its life.
09:35
76,000 miles on, I'm going to do a lot of the work out of myself to light work and
09:41
I'm losing coolant and it's not in my oil.
09:47
I mean, I've looked at it several times after a hot drive and it's not coming out and I don't
09:54
see anything coming out the tailpipe, but it's, it's obviously not in the oil, which is relatively
10:01
But could it be it's going into, into the cylinders and going out the back?
10:07
That's all I can think of.
10:10
That's initially what I'm thinking too.
10:11
So let me ask you something.
10:13
When you say it's using coolant, I mean, how often are you adding coolant?
10:19
Every time I drive now, and I don't hit it hard, I'm very careful with the 4.0 engine.
10:25
It's a beautiful car, beautiful engine, but it turns out that I know I put in, every time
10:32
I drive about, about a quart, maybe half a quart.
10:37
So it is going somewhere, usually it's pretty stationed and it doesn't get hot.
10:42
It's right at the normal range, slightly cooler, where it's supposed to be.
10:47
And then the other thing I'm thinking, well, because of its age and everything what I have,
10:52
is there a trustworthy fluid to put in the cooling system that you bet any, you know,
11:00
I hate to clock anything up.
11:03
You hear all these nightmares about an additive to put in.
11:07
How long, John, how long has this problem been going on?
11:12
About a year, because I don't drive as much.
11:15
I put about 2,000, 3,000 miles on a year or less.
11:19
And so I've had it several years.
11:21
I bought it at about 52,000.
11:26
OK, so you're driving at about 2,000 or 3,000 miles a year and it's been going on
11:31
for about a year, you said?
11:36
And you don't see anything on the driveway or nothing?
11:41
Have you had a mechanic just inspected or do a pressure test or get it up in the air?
11:49
Have you had anybody look at it?
11:51
Yeah, we had a pressure test.
11:53
He left it out overnight and he said, I don't know where it's coming from,
11:57
but he said it's probably coming out the exhaust pipe, but just a little bit.
12:03
And so, you know, just be careful with it.
12:08
I don't want to die.
12:09
I can't take it on any trips.
12:11
Right. You don't know what's going on.
12:13
I'm wondering, is there any attitude I could put in?
12:15
Otherwise, it's pulling the top off, but I don't want to do that.
12:19
That's just running the series dollars.
12:21
Yeah. So I mean, gathering what you're telling me and you don't see anything
12:27
leaking and it's it's using a quarter, half a quart of coolant.
12:32
I would probably would tend to agree with your mechanic and that it's
12:35
probably going out the tailpipe.
12:37
There's probably a crack in the head and one of the cylinder heads
12:40
or a head gasket issue where a little bit of coolant is getting through there,
12:45
going in the cylinder and a lot of a lot of times, I mean, you think about
12:48
if you drive it a small distance, but it's using coolant.
12:52
A lot of people will tend to think that, yeah, you're going to see all this
12:56
smoke and there's going to be signs of it.
12:58
And that's not always necessarily the case.
13:03
And you said it's never it's never overheating.
13:06
It's never overheated or anything.
13:07
Never, never, never.
13:11
And it's no rust underneath anywhere.
13:14
It's pristine and the insurance company gave me classic insurance.
13:18
They came out, we had to take all kinds of photos and it's got up.
13:21
It's got a stated price on it for replacement, you know, so it looks like a new car.
13:26
But, you know, it could be any of the things to mention.
13:30
And so is there any reliable, any reliable additive to put in there?
13:34
So the, yeah, so great question.
13:38
So the only thing that I would recommend, there's a, there's a, there's a product
13:41
out there, it's called Blue Devil.
13:46
And it's typically, Blue Devil is typically a head gasket repair.
13:50
We have had success with it for those people who just don't want to do the
13:54
repair and I get it.
13:55
I haven't seen it clog up radiators or, or, you know, evaporators
14:02
or anything like that.
14:02
And then it's, it's something that you can do at home and just basically, you'll
14:06
have to read the instructions, but basically you got to get the car up to
14:08
normal operating temperature, right?
14:10
And then, you know, remove the amount of coolant that you need in order
14:15
to add the Blue Devil.
14:16
And then you let this, you know, you let the vehicle run.
14:19
And we've had success with it.
14:21
I've had other customers that have used it, that have had success with it.
14:25
And I've not heard of anybody saying that the radiator or the evaporator,
14:29
the heater core, I said evaporator earlier, I'm sorry, heater core.
14:34
A lot of times some of these products will clog up these systems, but I've
14:40
That's what I'm worried about.
14:41
So when you do this, do you, do you put it in?
14:44
Do you put the radiator cap back on?
14:48
Can you drive it, right?
14:50
Um, so typically I, it's been a while since I've used it, but I think
14:54
you get the car, you, um, remove.
14:58
It'll tell you as far as what the, you know, how much coolant your system
15:02
holds on, it tells you exactly how much you need to add.
15:04
So you need to remove that coolant, add the product, get it up to normal
15:08
operating temperature where the fans are kicking on or whatnot.
15:10
The instructions are on the bottle, but the only product that I know of
15:13
that I've seen work and not cause any type of coolant issues as
15:18
far as the radiator or the heater core is, um, the Blue Devil.
15:22
And you can find it pretty much at any, you know, uh, shops.
15:27
Do you, do you then drain the cooling system and put fresh
15:31
coolage in after that or just leave it?
15:33
I think you just leave it.
15:35
I don't think you drain the whole coolant system.
15:37
I just think you remove the amount of coolant that you need
15:40
in order to add the Blue Devil and then you just keep it in there.
15:43
But again, it's, it's, it's on the back of the bottle.
15:47
It will, it'll walk you through the whole process and it's
15:50
pretty, like I said, you could do it at home in your driveway.
15:55
That's good advice.
15:55
And do you, do you turn off the, make sure the heater, the
15:58
heater itself is closed or no, typically, no, typically, you
16:02
want the heat on high so that the system so that it's just
16:07
circulates even through the heater core.
16:12
Well, thank you very much.
16:12
I appreciate your advice.
16:14

20:04
So earlier there was, I got to
20:12
It's hot in here, and I turned that
20:14
fan on and I forget to turn it off.
20:17
Earlier there was a young lady that
20:19
Her name is Kristen, but she was
20:21
Wanted to know how to properly
20:24
dispose of coolant, which I thought
20:26
was a great question.
20:28
Most repair shops, all of our
20:31
Donovan tire locations, you can, if
20:33
you have obviously you've got it in
20:35
a bottle or something.
20:37
But if you just bring it to any of
20:40
any Donovan tire locations, and again,
20:41
most repair shops would be able to,
20:44
you could just bring it to them and
20:45
they can recycle it for you.
20:46
So we use a company that, you know,
20:51
recycles that coolant and properly
20:56
So again, any of our Donovan
20:57
tire locations, my new store,
20:59
auto foreign and at Montgomery of the
21:03
corner of Montgomery Dana or Ridge
21:05
or Blue Ash, you can bring that
21:08
coolant to us and we'll dispose of it
21:14
there is a lot of times you'll see
21:16
on on your receipt and environmental
21:18
fee and that's to cover properly
21:20
disposing of oil and coolant and all
21:23
the other chemicals.
21:24
And sometimes people have questions
21:26
about that, want to know why
21:27
that why they're being charged
21:28
that and that's because we want to
21:30
make sure that we're properly
21:31
getting rid of these chemicals.
21:34
And again, you should never ever
21:36
dump it in a sink or in a drain
21:38
or anything like that.
21:40
Again, most repair shops would be
21:42
able to take care of it.
21:43
I could tell you that all of my
21:45
locations would be able to handle
21:48
that and dispose of it properly
21:51
because that's that's important.
21:52
And again, the company that we use
21:57
for our coolant is actually they
21:58
supply our coolant, they recycle it
22:00
and then we basically reuse it now
22:04
I mean, not all of it, but you
22:06
know, it's a way to make
22:08
sure that we're doing the right
22:09
thing and environmentally taking
22:11
you know, taking care of the
22:12
environment at the same time
22:14
and not just dumping.
22:15
So again, you should never ever
22:16
dump coolant or oil or any type
22:19
of chemical products, power
22:20
steering fluid, brake fluid, nothing.
22:23
You could bring it to any repair
22:25
shop and then we'll be able to
22:26
properly dispose of it.
22:27
And again, any of our
22:28
down of entire locations, you can
22:30
bring this product.
22:31
We don't charge you anything.
22:32
You don't need to call in advance.
22:34
You just bring it down and say,
22:35
hey, I've got these, you know,
22:36
a lot of times that people are
22:37
cleaning out their garage or they
22:39
buy a new house or whatever.
22:41
And, you know, I've got all this
22:43
old oil or power steering fluid
22:45
or whatnot and we'll take it for
22:47
free because the other thing
22:50
that we do to not with coolant,
22:51
but with your oil, your power
22:53
steering fluid, your transmission
22:55
fluid, those fluids, we have a
22:58
OK, most some, well, I would
23:00
think that a lot of repair shops
23:02
have them, but there is a
23:04
It's called a clean burn.
23:06
And basically what we do is how
23:08
we heat the building in the
23:09
winter is we use those products
23:11
to heat the building.
23:14
It's a wonderful way to dispose
23:19
And that's how we heat the
23:19
building is by using old fluids
23:23
So it's a really great system
23:25
environmentally safe and clean
23:28
burn is there's a lot of shops
23:30
that heat their building this
23:31
way. And it's a great
23:33
alternative to, you know, natural
23:36
So again, you can bring any of
23:38
your products, any of your used
23:40
car products, you can bring them
23:41
to Donovan's and we'll dispose
23:44
So I thought that was a great
23:45
She just she dropped off.
23:46
She may may not have been
23:48
So all right, let's go back
23:52
Hey, Keegan, welcome to the
23:55
Hey, thanks for taking my
23:58
Yeah, I've been for over
24:01
a year now trying to track
24:03
down this mystery problem
24:06
Infiniti G35 sedan.
24:10
I've got about 250,000 miles
24:13
I'm trying to get it to over
24:14
I think she can do it.
24:16
But I've got this sporadic
24:19
So I got a check engine
24:20
light and it threw a code
24:22
and the code was P0174,
24:25
which is a lean on bank
24:29
And one of the the mechanics
24:34
that I took it to said, oh,
24:35
you need a new oxygen sensor.
24:37
So I was like, OK, so I
24:41
I replaced the upstream
24:43
I haven't done the downstream,
24:45
but it's still still
24:47
So I'm I also discovered
24:50
an oil leak at the same time.
24:51
Realized that my valve cover
24:53
was leaking oil and I had oil
24:56
in one of the coil packs
24:58
surrounding the spark filling
25:00
the tube inside the spark plug.
25:03
And so I pulled that off,
25:05
cleaned it all out.
25:05
I did all new coil packs,
25:07
all new spark plugs.
25:09
I also changed out the throttle
25:11
I got new throttle bodies
25:14
and it's still thrown this code.
25:16
It'll obviously like during
25:17
the closed loop session of the
25:19
after I reset the ECU,
25:23
and then all of a sudden
25:25
go down the highway, boom,
25:27
and it's run like crap again.
25:29
And it's running almost
25:30
like it's misfiring.
25:34
I've checked the the wiring
25:35
harness, thinking that it's a
25:37
I've done so much of this.
25:39
And I don't know where to go
25:45
What about so I would I
25:48
would tell you so, you know,
25:49
you've got, you know,
25:51
you've got oxygen sensors
25:52
that are before the cats
25:53
and after the cats, right?
25:55
So and what they do is
25:57
you know, that cattle, the the
25:59
Matt or Jesus, Pete,
26:01
the oxygen sensor will
26:02
will test the exhaust
26:05
to find out if there's too much fuel
26:06
in it. If there is, it goes into
26:07
the catalytic converter
26:08
where it burns off in there.
26:09
And in the second oxygen sensor,
26:11
we'll then test it again.
26:13
So if that back O2 sensor
26:17
that could set your code as well.
26:20
Because it's on one bank,
26:23
my next step for you
26:25
would tell you probably to replace
26:26
that rear O2 sensor on bank.
26:29
You said bank is one seventy four
26:33
Yeah. And and the other thing, too,
26:35
is which I have that on order.
26:38
So that's the next, you know,
26:40
hundred bucks that I'm throwing it.
26:43
It's also throwing a code of like a
26:45
you one thousand or whatever,
26:47
saying like there's a can bus
26:50
And I don't know if those two
26:51
are related or not.
26:52
Now, can bus is going to
26:53
that's going to be part of your
26:54
all of your module.
26:56
So all of the modules in the car,
26:58
there's it's called a can bus system,
26:59
which basically each module
27:00
needs to be looped together
27:02
and talking to one another, right?
27:03
So that's that's part of the mod.
27:05
I mean, you know, you could
27:07
have a software issue or what not.
27:11
But typically, I mean,
27:12
if you've got a can bus issue that would
27:16
shouldn't be related
27:19
to why you're getting these
27:20
why you're getting these this this one seventy four code.
27:23
The other thing I would tell you to do
27:25
is I know on these infinities
27:28
does it have two air filters
27:32
Some of them have two.
27:34
I changed the air filter.
27:36
I changed the math air flow sensors out.
27:39
OK, so you did change out the mass air flow sensors.
27:44
Did you use OEM or what what what what line?
27:49
Like did you use like Denso or?
27:54
I bought it on Rockado.
27:55
I just went off the thing that was OEM.
27:58
But yeah, off my half.
27:59
Sure. OK, all right.
28:01
So I yeah, if you've done the mass air flow sensors,
28:05
you've done the air filters,
28:06
you've done the front two sensor.
28:09
I would probably my next step,
28:11
your next step, like you said,
28:12
you've got to order would be the rear two sensor.
28:22
I could hear the air in the background and it just stopped.
28:24
So yeah, your next step is to do to do the
28:28
that rear two sensor, because again,
28:30
it tests that that exhaust before it goes into the converter
28:33
and then it tested after the converter.
28:35
Now there's a potential that the converter
28:38
is not burning off the fuel like it's supposed to,
28:40
which again, if if you replace that rear one
28:43
and you're still getting the code might be a converter issue, too.
28:48
That's what I was going to be my next question
28:50
if there's a danger that the I guess the rich,
28:53
the rich environment might have found one of the cats.
28:57
Yeah, well, no, I mean, one seventy four is a lean code.
29:02
Or lean, I'm sorry.
29:03
Yeah, yeah, I mean, if it was rich, then it could have.
29:06
But with it being lean, it's just basically,
29:09
you know, too much air, not enough.
29:10
It's too much air, not enough fuel, basically, right?
29:13
So but if it was the opposite,
29:15
you have too much fuel, then yeah, it'd be running rich.
29:17
But no, it could be a converter.
29:20
It could be a converter issue.
29:22
But I think before you go down that route down that rabbit hole,
29:26
which could be extremely expensive, is I'd I'd I'd put that rear two in it
29:32
and then call me back.
29:33
Let me know if that took care of it for you.
29:36
OK, but I think that's I certainly think that's your next step.
29:40
You're you're on it.
29:42
You've done the mass airflow sensors.
29:43
You've done that front two sensor.
29:44
And again, it's only on one side.
29:46
So which the next thing that you need to do is that rear, that rear O2.
29:50
And I should take care of it.
29:52
If not, you call me back and we'll we'll we'll go we'll get after it.
29:57
All right, I appreciate it, man.
29:59
All right, thank you.
30:00
Take care. Bye bye.

33:27
Taking your car questions, the number to call
33:33
And oh, man, we've we've had some great questions.
33:38
So let's go back to the phones.
33:41
Hey, Jim, welcome to the car show.
33:46
I've got a 2000 GMC Safari.
33:49
I've come a few months ago.
33:53
I went out to start it and it just cranked over until the battery went dead.
33:58
So I checked in to try to figure out what that was because I thought it was either
34:04
no spark or no fuel.
34:06
I pulled the hump off and I checked the fuel pressure and I had great, great fuel pressure.
34:12
So it must be a spark.
34:15
And I started looking, looking around.
34:18
I ended up at that time changing out the crank position sensor.
34:26
And and I checked the wires.
34:29
I did all that first.
34:33
I checked to see if I was getting spark into the into the distributor and from the
34:39
distributor and that seemed to be checking out.
34:42
OK, so I ended up changing out this this sensor and it started up after that.
34:51
And it ran for a few weeks.
34:56
It was it was good and then it started doing it again.
35:00
What I what I figured, well, I went into it after that as well.
35:05
And it that that particular car, I don't know, you've probably worked on them,
35:09
but they are just a monster to try to work on.
35:13
And I I got a couple of the spark plugs out.
35:20
And they look great.
35:23
I had those iridium spark plugs and they looked almost brand new.
35:28
So I don't think it's the spark plugs.
35:31
I also changed out the distributor cap in the in the rotor.
35:38
So you did the rotor button in the distributor cap.
35:42
And and now and then again, it was running for good for a while.
35:47
And then it started doing it again.
35:52
I even had it out this morning.
35:54
It it runs real rough a lot of times.
35:58
And and then as it warms up, it gets better.
36:01
And then and then finally, after it's all warmed up and everything, it's running normally.
36:09
I still think it's it's something to do with with the spark or.
36:14
Yeah, because you said you're getting you're getting good fuel.
36:17
I mean, did you use a gauge to check the fuel pressure?
36:21
Yeah, I used the gauge.
36:22
OK. And it was right in spec.
36:25
OK. And you said you did the crank positioning sensor as well.
36:31
So spark plugs look great.
36:32
Cap and rotor button have been replaced.
36:36
Fuel's good and you've got a new crank positioning sensor.
36:40
The crank positioning sensor.
36:43
What do you you may not have even had access to it.
36:47
But was it an aftermarket part?
36:51
No, it was it was a AC Delco GM.
36:55
It was a GM part. OK. All right.
36:57
Good. Good for you. Good job.
36:58
All right. And then the the cap and rotor.
37:04
Cap and rotor after market after market. OK.
37:08
And with it running bad.
37:11
When it won't start, you said you are still good.
37:15
I mean, are you pulling?
37:15
How are you checking spark?
37:16
Are you pulling that spark plug wire out and using a how are you checking spark?
37:21
Yeah, basically pulling the spark plug wire and just checking the arc.
37:26
Yeah, ground and about spark there.
37:31
Another thing I noticed, though, was it happens more.
37:36
It happens almost all the time when it does happen during wet weather or.
37:42
Wet, humid weather.
37:43
If it rained the night before chances are go out there and if it starts,
37:48
it'll you know, run real rough.
37:50
That's when it runs rough, but usually if I go out there like like now, you know,
37:55
it's dry, it's been dry for at least several hours and it's hot out.
38:01
It'll start right up. OK.
38:02
Well, how how old are the ignition wires?
38:07
I don't know that they've ever been changed out. OK.
38:11
So a lot of times it's a 2,000 and it's got two hundred and sixty eight
38:16
thousand miles and you don't think they've ever been replaced?
38:20
I don't I don't I bought the car one at sixty thousand and I can't remember
38:25
every place in the spark plug wire.
38:28
So what I want you to do next, if this is the case, we want to start with
38:35
the basics, the fact that you tell me it's it is you're all over it.
38:40
I mean, you're you're you're on it.
38:41
You're you're making the right choices.
38:43
You're buying the right parts.
38:44
You're doing the right thing.
38:46
I think it is either.
38:51
I would start with and it would be something that you could do is
38:55
the wires. OK. Here's why.
38:57
The wires will break down. OK.
38:59
And if there's moisture in the air, that why, you know,
39:02
those wires are going to arc onto the block.
39:04
They're going to arc to anything.
39:05
They're going to take the path of least resistance.
39:07
Right. So they're going to arc onto the block.
39:09
They're going to arc.
39:11
So I want you to replace the spark plug wires next.
39:15
OK. That should be very inexpensive.
39:17
I would get a good spark plug wire get an AC delco if you can. OK.
39:22
Another thing that you can try to do is when you get it started
39:26
and it's running while it's running, get a get a spray bottle full of water.
39:32
OK. And I want you to I want you to spray those wires
39:36
spraying while the car is running.
39:39
And I want you to pay attention to notice whether or not that car starts
39:42
misfiring or running bad after you spray those wires, because again,
39:46
you start wetting stuff down again, it's going to take the path of least resistance
39:50
and it's going to go to the next and it's not going to, you know,
39:52
those wires are that sparks not going to make it to the plug.
39:54
It's going to go to again to any close, you know, piece of metal.
39:58
Right. So a lot of times when we would in those older cars, you know,
40:03
because now all the cars nowadays, they all have coils, right?
40:05
But, you know, we're going back to distributors or whatnot.
40:08
So get that thing running and I want you to again, just spray it.
40:12
You don't have to, you know, hose it down.
40:14
I just, you know, a light mist on all the wires and just see if it starts
40:19
running bad or you notice a misfire if that's the case.
40:24
And OK, now our next step is let's replace the wires.
40:30
If you're still experiencing an issue, I would probably your next step
40:33
will probably be replacing the distributor itself.
40:41
That would be my next step.
40:42
But again, the wires that get things started, get it running.
40:45
And again, light little mist on those wires and see if it starts running bad.
40:50
If that's if it does, we got a wire issue, go to the store,
40:54
replace the wires and see if it changes.
40:56
If it's still the same,
40:58
I want you to go ahead and replace the distributor if you can find one.
41:02
That's going to be the other problem that you're going to maybe run it.
41:05
I mean, you might you should be able to find one.
41:08
Probably not an AC Delco, but like a remanufactured or
41:13
you could find a new one, but by a good quality part, if you do the distributor.
41:19
So but try that next.
41:21
You need to do the wires, spray them down, see if it runs bad.
41:25
If it does great, we're on the right track.
41:27
Let's replace the wires.
41:28
If not, you still have the same symptoms.
41:29
Then I would go to the distributor next.
41:32
OK, let me ask you one other thing about that.
41:37
Is is it possible that that could be caused by something from the intake manifold
41:44
or the where the air goes into the engine?
41:49
Are there some sensors in there somewhere that?
41:52
I mean, you could have it.
41:55
You could have an intake manifold issue,
41:58
but it's usually going to be present all the time, not in wet conditions.
42:06
You could take like like an intake cleaner or some type of like throttle body cleaner
42:11
or whatnot, if it's running, you could spray the intake and just see if
42:16
it's sucking in sucking in that air.
42:19
I mean, it could be an intake manifold gasket.
42:22
But when you told me like, hey, almost almost doesn't start every time it
42:27
rains and there's moisture in the air, 10 I lean more towards, you know,
42:32
an ignition issue, not, you know, intake manifold is because the intake manifold
42:37
is just going to it's going to run.
42:39
It's going to run bad when it's when the car is cold.
42:42
So if it's, you know, 30 degrees outside, that thing's not going to run at all.
42:46
Where if it's, you know, wet, that really shouldn't have an effect on it.
42:51
But it could, I mean, you know, but I think it's an ignition issue.
42:57
Because once you said it almost every time when it's wet or rain the night before
43:02
it won't start, leads me to believe you've got an ignition issue.
43:05
So I think wires is your next step, especially as many miles that are on it.
43:10
And like I said, if it if if it's still the same symptom, then
43:15
go to the distributor.
43:19
Sounds good. Great, Jim.
43:20
Thank you. I appreciate it. Have a great weekend.

46:43
All right, let's get back to the phones.
46:45
We are running out of time here, so we're going to go to more and more.
46:49
Hey, welcome to the car show. How can I help? Did I say that right?
46:53
That's close enough. Thank you very much for taking my call.
46:56
Well, thanks for holding on. I really do appreciate it. How can I help?
47:00
2012 Chevrolet Impala.
47:04
I get the anti-lock brake system.
47:07
I've got the codes.
47:08
One code is left front wheel speed sensor circuit.
47:13
Left front wheel speed sensor circuit signal erratic.
47:19
I've replaced three left front wheel bearings.
47:24
And every time it continues, I think it's engaging the anti-lock.
47:32
Do you feel it when you're applying the brake? Do you feel that the ABS?
47:38
You do not. But if you when you stop the vehicle,
47:43
and go to accelerate, something locks.
47:47
I think it's the anti-lock engages.
47:53
Yeah, I mean, well, the analog is only going to engage when you're
47:56
applying the brake, not when you're accelerating.
47:59
Is there any is there any other lights on or just the ABS?
48:05
ABS, no traction control.
48:08
Sometimes that comes on.
48:11
It comes on with different traction control and the brake assist.
48:18
It stays a lot of track.
48:21
And you for you said you saw most GM's, it's a 2012 Chevy Impala.
48:29
Yes, most GM's, I'm assuming most GM's have that the sensor is built
48:35
into the wheel hub assembly.
48:41
So that eliminates what's called an excitering in the sensor.
48:45
If you had those done.
48:49
Probably and it's not going to be something that probably you're
48:52
going to be able to do, but there could be I know on those
48:56
Chevy Impala's and whatnot that the wires would break.
48:59
Inside the harness, which it would be very difficult to try to
49:03
So what you would need to do is own out the sensor and figure
49:07
out if, you know, there's a break in the wire.
49:13
I'd have to see the car, but I do know that GM for years
49:17
would run that ABS wire like at the control arm.
49:20
And when that control arm is moving up and down, those
49:23
wires would break inside the harness.
49:26
Inside the harness, it could be an actual ABS module issue as
49:31
well. So I think the next step would be to you need to own out
49:36
Again, you might not be able to do that.
49:38
You need to own out the sensor and find out if the sensor
49:40
is good and then find out if there's a break in any of the
49:44
wires going to the module.
49:45
And if it's still and if that all checks out, then most
49:48
likely it could be a bad module or bad ABS computer.
49:57
But you're going to probably need to get that to a mechanic
50:00
that has the proper software to do that.
50:05
Is the computer an expensive part?
50:08
Yes, sir. Yeah, it's built into the ABS pump.
50:11
So with with the age of it, it's probably going to be hard
50:15
to find it, even if it is available.
50:17
But I mean, those modules sometimes can be anywhere
50:20
between 800 to, you know,
50:24
$1,200 just for the part.
50:27
So what else can I tell you that I haven't that you think
50:32
might be beneficial or have you pretty well covered it?
50:35
I pretty well covered it.
50:36
I mean, so you've got you if you've replaced three sensors,
50:41
three of those bearings and your problem is still there,
50:44
then there's either a broken wire somewhere.
50:47
And that's why it's saying it's erratic because again,
50:50
it's getting a signal, not getting a signal, getting a
50:52
signal, not getting a signal, which I again would think
50:55
that we need to we need to, you know, test the wiring
50:59
and make sure that there's not a break in any of the wires.
51:02
And other than that, it's it's a module issue.
51:07
I guess it's it's pretty.
51:09
It's a pretty simple concept that you got the sensor,
51:12
which again, you've done three times still getting the same code.
51:15
So there's either a break in the wires or the module itself
51:20
And that's what's causing it.
51:21
And it's other than that, there's nothing much more
51:24
than you can check.
51:28
OK, I think you're first.
51:30
Yeah, you know, I'm sorry, it's not I'm I wish I could help you out a little bit more.
51:35
I mean, you're more than welcome to bring it to it.
51:38
It says here you live in Harrison.
51:39
I know that's not, you know, that's not close to me,
51:41
but I'd be more than happy to hook it up to the scanner
51:44
and try to help you out there, buddy, and and get it figured out.
51:48
I mean, without physically seeing the car and and see, you know,
51:51
because we can we can hook it up to a scanner, drive the car.
51:54
I mean, we we would be able to I could I certainly you bring it to me.
51:58
I certainly can tell you what's going to fix it.
52:00
But over the over the radio here, it's it's either got to be
52:04
a either has to be a broken wire or the module itself is bad.
52:07
But you give me an hour with it and I'll figure it out.
52:12
Well, I have the codes, right?
52:14
I'm looking at the codes.
52:16
Will that help you make it?
52:18
I could. Yeah, it could.
52:19
Can you call me, obviously not on Monday.
52:22
Can you call me on Tuesday at my my new shop?
52:26
Call me and then I can have the I'll be able to run those codes
52:30
in my in my system and be able to try to help you out and determine.
52:34
I just don't have the access to it here.
52:36
But so if you go to you want the number.
52:44
I'm ready. All right. Of course, it's five on three.
52:47
731-8989-513-731-8989 and just call.
52:54
I may not answer the phone.
52:55
But Michael, if I don't answer the phone, Michael will.
52:59
And you just tell him that you spoke with me on Saturday on the radio show.
53:02
And I told you to call and then you give me those codes
53:05
and I'll try to help you out a little bit more. OK.
53:09
I appreciate it. I don't want to take any of your time.
53:11
And I'm I'm here every Saturday to try to help you out
53:15
and help everybody out to try to get their cars fixed.
53:17
So no, you're not bothering me.
53:19
You call me and I'll do the best I can to get you back
53:22
get you back out on the road and get this problem taken care of.
53:26
Great show. Thank you for your courtesy.
53:28
All right. Now, absolutely.
53:29
So you have a great weekend.
53:31
So again, never feel like if you call me at work,
53:34
I had had a lady call me this Friday, maybe Thursday, she called me.
53:40
Never ever feel that you're bothering me. OK.
53:43
That's what I'm that's what I'm here to do.
53:44
I'm trying to help you out the best way that I can.
53:47
And, you know, that's why I take this
53:49
Saturday out in the afternoon to try to help you out and get your car fixed.
53:52
That's that's what this is about.
53:54
It's my job. And again, I enjoy doing it.
53:56
So all right, let's go back to the phones real quick.
53:58
We've got John. Hey, John, welcome to the car show.
54:02
Yes, sir. How are you doing today?
54:04
I'm good, sir. How are you?
54:06
I'm great. I have a broken set in Lincoln, M.K.Z.
54:11
I was about 70,000.
54:14
It started losing it pretty soon.
54:16
The heat reservoir.
54:19
So I've been obviously keeping it tilled up as much as possible.
54:23
But I noticed that most were leaking into one of the cylinders
54:26
because I don't see any water on the ground anywhere.
54:29
And also occasionally, you'll feel a mist
54:33
when it starts up sometimes. OK.
54:35
And then later is running perfect.
54:38
So I've been told and I may have to replace the head gasket.
54:45
I've also been told that this particular engine
54:48
is going to a lot more problems coming in the near future.
54:57
I broke up a little bit.
54:59
Yeah, so so two things he was breaking up.
55:02
Sorry. So here's here's the deal.
55:04
So again, this kind of goes back to earlier.
55:07
A caller, if you've got a head gasket issue,
55:11
the way to fix it is to replace head gasket.
55:13
It's very expensive, thousands and thousands of dollars to fix this thing.
55:17
OK, probably to fix that thing is if I had to guess four or five,
55:21
six grand to fix the head gasket.
55:23
Now, earlier caller called and there is a product out there.
55:27
It's called Blue Devil.
55:28
You can introduce that into the system and it's supposed to.
55:32
In theory, it's supposed to seal it up and it's supposed to be a permanent fix.
55:40
But, you know, I've seen it work, but it's not always the case.
55:46
The other issue, especially on the it was a 17 MKZ, the Ford.
55:53
I know I said Lincoln, but Ford and Lincoln are the same company, right?
55:58
Ford did a wonderful thing years ago and they.
56:02
The water pump is internal.
56:04
OK, so in order to replace the water pump, the engine has to come out of the car.
56:08
Why those engineers would do that is beyond me.
56:11
I just want to bang my head up against the wall because what happens is a lot of times, too,
56:16
if the gentleman again was saying that he was using coolant.
56:21
You know, if it's using coolant on those vehicles, sometimes what happens is the water pump goes bad.
56:26
It leaks internally inside the engine, which then coolant goes into the engine oil
56:31
and wipes out the engine.
56:33
So that's the other thing that I would have you check is just check the oil.
56:36
Make sure the oil doesn't look milky.
56:37
It should look again like a dark oil.
56:41
If you've got a Lincoln MKZ and you're using coolant and you don't know why,
56:45
again, sometimes those water pumps will go bad leak internally and go into the oil,
56:49
the engine oil, which at that point, it's toast.
56:52
The engine needs to be replaced.
56:53
But this gentleman said that when he starts it in early, it runs rough,
56:59
which means coolant was probably leaking into the cylinder.
57:02
Once that coolant burns off, then he's fine.
57:05
So again, I would probably recommend you could try the product Blue Devil.
57:12
Try that. We've had success with it.
57:14
It's not the right way to fix it.
57:16
The right way is obviously to replace it.
57:17
But again, with the cost,
57:21
it's a choice and you'd be able to possibly
57:31
fix it and save yourself a lot of money.
57:33
I don't always recommend that, but it depends on where you are with the vehicle
57:39
and how long you want to keep it.
57:40
You want to drive it for another 100,000 miles and fix the head gasket.
57:43
If you're like, Dane, I just need to get another six months out of it,
57:46
then that might be an option for you.
57:50
All right. Listen again.
57:50
I do really do appreciate all the callers.
57:53
Everybody have a great and safe Memorial Day weekend.
57:56
Again, thank you so much.
57:58
I just want to thank those who served our country
58:01

58:07
just remember those who lost their life for our country.
58:11
So thank you everybody.
