Good afternoon and welcome to the car show on 55KRC.
04:27
I'm Dane Donovan from Donovan's Auto & Tire Center, taking your car questions, the number
04:33
to call 513-749-5500.
04:37
That number again, 513-749-5500.
04:42
And typical Dane Donovan fashion, I'm running a little late.
04:46
We had multiple football games this morning.
04:50
In fact, my middle son is playing right now.
04:54
So I tried to time it, I thought I had enough time, but not too bad, but 75, I don't care
05:03
if it's one o'clock in the morning, one o'clock in the afternoon, it doesn't matter.
05:08
If you're on 75 near, oh shoot, I'm going to forget, paddock, I'm telling you what,
05:16
it's always, you just can never, you never know.
05:20
It was, it was backed up at seven o'clock in the morning.
05:23
It was backed up when I was on my way out here.
05:25
So my boys had football games over on the west side of town.
05:30
And for those of you familiar with the, the west side, it was that visitation or visit.
05:36
And we had, we had my youngest had to be there at 7.45.
05:43
And you can imagine, yes, we were, he was only 10 minutes late.
05:47
I was in charge of getting him there.
05:49
We were only 10 minutes late.
05:50
So that's, I mean, you know, so, but they do it right out there.
05:54
They, they had get a egg sausage sandwiches.
05:59
So it was, it was good.
06:00
They won their first game and then like I said, my middle son is playing right now.
06:04
So Declan won and good luck to Nolan.
06:08
So all right, again, I'm taking your phone calls and number to call 513-749-5500.
06:15
The weather we're, we're experiencing today in this week.
06:20
I did on Tuesday celebrate my, my 41st birthday.
06:26
So I am 41 years old now.
06:28
So, so yeah, so that's a, and I'm falling apart.
06:32
So I have a, can't sleep, have heartburn, you know, got to watch what I eat.
06:40
It certainly feels like I'm an old man, certainly so.
06:44
But anyways, all right, again, I'm taking your phone calls, 513-749-5500.
06:51
Hey, Paul, welcome to the car show.
06:55
Happy belated birthday.
06:58
I just, I tell you what, I mean, my body started shutting down at 40.
07:04
I don't know what, I don't know what I did wrong, but oh man, so, but anyway,
07:13
we talked last week about, about the noise the engine might, or engine might leak element
07:19
was making and I sent you a video, I didn't hear anything, so I figured I'd call back
07:24
see if you listened to it.
07:27
As soon as you said that, that's why I said, ooh, I got your email, but I, no, I will
07:34
do that in the commercial break or I'll do that, I'll do in the commercial break.
07:41
I got it and I just, I'm, you know, squirrel, like I'm on to the next thing.
07:48
So yeah, but I, at this point, I may be, you know, as much as I got to take it apart to
07:57
I mean, I pulled the, pulled the timing cover, you know, the valve cover and the timing
08:04
I don't see anything wrong with the cams and rockers or, or the guides or the
08:08
chains at this point.
08:10
Any of the, all the rubber guides there for the chain.
08:13
Yeah, all the guides are there and there's, did you send me pictures in that?
08:22
The noise, I tried to attach a picture of the chains and it kept messing up so I gave
08:29
But at this point, I'm pretty much resolved to just go ahead and yank, yank the engine
08:36
and drop the one I have rebuilt in it.
08:40
Did you send me that last Saturday?
08:43
Yeah, yeah, right after the show.
08:45
I'm in my email right now.
08:47
All right, I'll find it, stay tuned, stay, let me listen to it.
08:53
You did send it to me.
08:54
I did get it and I had full intentions on listening to it, but I just, well, but
09:00
you said again, you don't see anything wrong with the rockers or the chains
09:04
or anything like that.
09:05
And the car runs all right.
09:08
Well, yeah, it ran, you know, it ran all making the noise.
09:11
But like I said, the oil pressure dropped.
09:15
You know, dangerously low at idle.
09:17
Got a full warmed up idle.
09:19
It was down to like four PSI, so I guess that's.
09:24
And you said, did you say, did you say you did drop the pan or you haven't
09:27
because the engine's got to come out?
09:28
No, I haven't because you got to drop the cradle or lift the engine to do so.
09:34
I'm just wondering if there's any type of,
09:37
yeah, I'm just wondering if there's any type of restriction inside that the oil,
09:42
the, you know, your, your oil pump screen or whatnot.
09:48
So I've seen debris get caught up in there.
09:50
I tell you what, we had one.
09:51
This is this is no lie.
09:54
I can't remember what we were doing to it.
09:55
We were doing something.
09:56
But anyways, the pan had to be off.
09:59
And there was an, and I, I'm telling you to this day, I don't know
10:03
how it happened, but there was an oil filled or I'm sorry, an oil change sticker
10:11
that somehow had got sucked into the oil pump screen.
10:15
And the thing was, the thing was running.
10:18
We had to put a pan on it for something I can't remember.
10:21
But I'm like, I, to this day, I, you know, I'm like, man,
10:25
how did that thing get down there?
10:26
That's, that's, I don't know if somebody, I would think somebody had to do
10:32
that intentionally, I would think.
10:33
Yeah, sounds like it.
10:34
Cause there's no way you could, it couldn't just fall in through the top of the engine.
10:39
There's no way it's going to make it from the top of the engine to the bottom.
10:42
Somebody would have to put it into the pan.
10:45
So, but yeah, we found an oil change sticker inside.
10:49
And again, it had, I don't know how it was running and how it had
10:53
good oil pressure, but it, it, it ran.
10:57
Well, I'll take a listen to it.
10:59
And you, you give me an update on it.
11:09
Tony Bender is in studio today.
11:11
He's probably listening to me.
11:12
Maybe, maybe not, but he will contest that if you need to get a hold of
11:19
Dane Donovan, the, I think the worst way would be email.
11:23
Now again, with Paul, Paul did send it to me.
11:25
I did open it and it's open on my computer at work.
11:30
I just never, I just never listened to it.
11:32
So I apologize Paul, but timing chains are one of those things that, and
11:38
that's why I harp all the time on this show.
11:42
No, no, no, Paul had, I think he, I think he said like 256,000 or
11:46
somewhere near that.
11:47
So that's a pretty good life on a, on a Honda engine, but you
11:53
know, that's why it's imperative.
11:55
You keep boiling these things because it can cost you a lot of
11:58
money down the road.
11:59
Again, I'm taking your phone calls.
12:01
The number to call 513-749-5500.
12:04
That number again, 513-749-5500 phone lines are wide open.
12:08
So love to hear from you.
12:11
If you call, we'll get you right in.
12:12
So you're listening to the car show on 55 KRC, the talk
12:16
This is 55 KRC and I heart radio station way back in 1958.

15:11
So if you have a question, love to hear from you.
15:13
That's what I'm here.
15:15
That's what I'm here for every Saturday.
15:16
Well, most Saturdays.
15:17
I'm supposed to be here every Saturday,
15:19
but every once in a while, especially when UC's playing,
15:25
I will be absent so.
15:27
But, you know, I'm here.
15:30
Again, I'm from Donovan's Auto and Tire Center.
15:33
And you can find your nearest location at DonovanTire.com
15:38
and full service and everything but body work.
15:45
Apparently, a lot of people are banging into things.
15:51
So no paint or scratches or dents or anything like that.
15:54
But, you know, if you've got a lot of these newer cars
15:58
nowadays, you know, you have your plastic bumpers
16:00
where you'll bump into something and it looks like
16:02
the bumpers just kind of inverted a little bit.
16:04
A lot of times we can get those out.
16:06
We can get a heat gun and pop them out.
16:10
I do get a lot of questions.
16:11
A lot of people think that you have to knock a mirror off,
16:15
which that happens quite a bit that, you know,
16:19
it needs to go to a body shop and it does not.
16:21
We can we can handle that.
16:23
It's just any major dents or dings or collision.
16:27
So in fact, I know my father-in-law is not listening,
16:31
but he had a little fender bender and we had to I had to get
16:34
I got his car in and we're able to just all we had to do
16:37
is just pull the bumper off and get it repainted.
16:39
Not a not a big deal.
16:43
So anything that pertains to your vehicle,
16:46
screwed or glued, you know, most most likely we can take
16:51
care of as long as the parts are available,
16:54
which again becomes a constant battle and it's almost the
16:59
newer the vehicle, the harder it is to get parts.
17:02
You would think it'd be the opposite, but it is not.
17:06
They these these vehicles nowadays.
17:08
Listen, I again, I had the luxury of being able to buy a
17:12
newer vehicle myself and knock on wood.
17:15
Everything's good, but I'm always leery and of where I
17:19
park and I fold my mirrors in because I'm always afraid
17:22
somebody's going to knock a mirror over because again,
17:25
these smaller parts that you just don't think about.
17:29
I mean, all these mirrors, they have they have heat.
17:32
They have floodlights.
17:33
They have turn signals.
17:34
They powerful they, you know, they have the sonar to make
17:39
sure that if somebody's in your blind spot that the
17:41
light lights up, you know, and then like on some of these
17:44
vehicles to like Honda, when you turn on your right turn
17:49
signal, there's a camera built into it and instead of
17:53
having, you know, light that comes on that lets you knew
17:56
that there's a car beside you in your blind spot camera
17:58
comes on and you can see it.
18:00
Well, that all of that's great.
18:03
But all of that has to be it's it's not it has to be
18:08
programmed to the vehicle, right?
18:12
You know, I used one at a junkyard, you know, you
18:15
sit there and you go 800 or $900 for a mirror.
18:19
I'll just go to a junkyard.
18:20
Well, nowadays you can't do that because that that
18:22
mirror has to be programmed to the vehicle and the only
18:27
way to program it is you got to have Honda software.
18:30
So they make things extremely they extremely difficult to
18:36
the point where even I think a lot of your window
18:41
They're they're considered a module.
18:43
There's a computer in there.
18:44
So even if your driver's window switch, you know,
18:47
quits working, you have to remove the door panel.
18:50
You have to remove the switch and then the
18:52
And a lot of people go, well, I got I got another I've got
18:54
bigger problems and it's no you have to go into the car,
18:57
go into the software and you have to program that window
19:00
switch to the vehicle and it's just not it's not like
19:04
the the olden days where you can just plug and play
19:07
everything on these vehicles nowadays has to be programmed.
19:13
So, you know, just always be mindful, you know,
19:17
rolling up your windows.
19:18
Make sure you don't leave your windows down where water
19:20
can get I had a years ago.
19:23
I had a gentleman who had a Bentley Bentley continental.
19:28
It was a convertible top and now again, he left the
19:32
convertible top down and water got in the window switch.
19:36
It also the gas door button was built into that switch
19:41
So he couldn't get he couldn't put gas in the car
19:44
unless he replaced the window switch.
19:46
Well, the windows switch alone was $800 and then you
19:50
have to remove the panel and with labor and anything like
19:53
I want to say was around $1200 and it could have been
19:57
inverted just by making sure that the tops up and which
20:02
again, I talked about this couple of weeks ago.
20:04
If you if you can avoid I have a customer of mine
20:08
who's dealing with a convertible top issue with
20:11
her Audi and I've been around around with the
20:14
dealer and they're not being helpful and basically they
20:20
came to me and said, hey, Dane, we don't know what's
20:21
wrong that we just need to replace the whole convertible
20:23
It's going to be $25,000.
20:26
I call my customer who was upset of course and because
20:31
I there's nobody else that there's nobody else that
20:33
I can get to work on it.
20:35
It's at the dealer and it's been there for three or
20:40
So she goes, Dane, I only paid $30,000 for the car.
20:44
You're telling me in order to get my in order to have
20:46
my convertible top to work.
20:47
I got to pay $25,000.
20:49
I'm like, that's what they're telling me, you know?
20:52
And you know, it's one of those things where it's
20:55
a it's a nice luxury.
20:58
But if you can live without it, try to try to do
21:03
so same with sunroofs or a panoramic sunroofs and
21:09
all the power, all the buttons and everything like that's
21:12
it's the more the buttons, the more the, you know,
21:16
it's just more for something to break.
21:17
And again, we get, we get, you know, we get accustomed
21:20
to those luxuries, right?
21:21
You've got heated seats or heated steering wheels
21:24
or cooled seats nowadays.
21:26
You know, yes, we get, we get used to those luxuries
21:29
and then when they break, they're like, oh, man,
21:31
I got to have them.
21:32
I can't live without them and then you get the
21:34
price of what it's going to cost to fix it.
21:38
And you're like, ah, nevermind.
21:39
I guess I can live without it.
21:40
But yeah, again, I had the luxury of being able to
21:45
buy a newer vehicle and my boys get in the car and
21:48
they want to push every button in the thing and
21:51
I'm like, stop touching buttons.
21:53
If you're in dad's vehicle, you can't don't touch
21:56
And again, after the first football game that we
22:01
went to, my in-laws lived down the street.
22:03
We went to their house and he has a, he has
22:05
a recliner that does about everything for you.
22:08
It, you know, it'll sit you up, lean you back,
22:11
put your feet up, it's heated.
22:13
It has a massager and my middle son got in it and
22:17
it has a controller on it.
22:18
And I'm telling you what, I was about ready.
22:21
It was like up, down, up, down, recline, forward,
22:24
back, oh, I'm like, stop touching the buttons.
22:27
Just sit in the chair.
22:30
So again, I'm taking your phone calls.
22:32
The number to call 513-749-5500.
22:36
Again, to go back to Paul who called earlier with the chain
22:41
issue, you know, again, I hate to always harp on it,
22:48
but it's something that is just painfully, painfully
22:53
obvious when it comes to these vehicles and these
22:55
newer vehicles is just making sure that you're,
22:58
you're at least checking the oil level.
23:01
I'm, I'm not, I'm not, I'm not, I'm not, I'm not
23:06
I harp on it all the time about changing it,
23:09
but I'm to the point where I'm just begging people just
23:11
to make sure, just make sure that it's full.
23:15
We, we see a lot of ongoing issues.
23:18
I had a gentleman earlier this week.
23:20
He says, hey, my, my sister-in-law, she needs an oil
23:24
change, but her check engine lights on.
23:25
The car's running bad.
23:26
Lo and behold, she was, you know, way overdue and
23:31
there was no oil in the car, which led to chain
23:33
issues, which led to the running issues, which
23:36
led to the check engine light and it's all something
23:40
that can be averted if, if we're just at least
23:43
checking it or changing it regularly.
23:45
Now, at all of our Donovan tire locations, we'd
23:48
be more than happy if, if you think your car
23:50
is using oil or you don't know how to check it,
23:52
we'll always be happy to help you and show you
23:56
If you're a do-it-yourself or you're like,
23:58
you know what, I like to learn how to check
24:00
my own oil because it's, it's very important
24:05
But if you're like, nah, I don't want to get my
24:07
hands dirty or I don't, I don't know anything
24:09
about cars, you can always bring it to one of
24:12
Well, one of our mechanics will come out.
24:14
Gladly to take a look at it.
24:16
And, you know, if you need a quarter or what
24:18
not, we can top you off, you know.
24:22
It's, it's, but it's, it's something that's
24:24
very important on these vehicles today.
24:26
We spend so much money.
24:28
As you know, these vehicles are not getting
24:31
cheaper, you know, you spend your hard-earned
24:33
money and you need these cars to get to work
24:37
to get your kids to school or sporting events.
24:41
And you want to make sure that, you know, you
24:45
protect your investment.
24:46
I know it's a depreciating asset, but you
24:48
want to make sure that you protect it and
24:50
you make sure that you get the most life
24:53
You know, again, Paul, when he called
24:54
earlier, you know, he has a 04 Honda,
24:57
Honda Element and has 256,000 miles.
25:01
Now, for some people, like Tony Bender,
25:04
they can rack that up in a couple of years
25:06
because he lives way, way down in Kentucky.
25:10
There's a, you have to stop at a, I had to
25:11
stop at rest area just to get to his house,
25:14
but he can rack up miles real quick.
25:16
Now for the, you know, somebody who is,
25:19
you know, 256,000 miles, like for me,
25:22
I only live three and a half miles away
25:24
So it's going to take me a long time
25:30
whether you're driving it, you know,
25:35
three miles a day, you want to make sure that
25:37
you're taking care of it, making sure that
25:40
you're maintaining it regularly.
25:42
And again, the, the cheapest and easiest
25:44
thing to do is what you're, you're, you
25:46
already have to go to the gas station
25:48
For those of you who have a Tesla or
25:51
all electric car, this isn't, you know,
25:53
you, this isn't an issue for you,
25:56
but for 99% of us, 95% of us probably,
26:00
you need to, you have to go to the gas
26:02
station and get gas in your car.
26:03
So that, that would be a perfect time
26:05
while you're waiting instead of getting back
26:07
in your car, getting on your phone,
26:09
checking to see what, you know,
26:11
somebody's status is,
26:13
pop that hood and check your fluid.
26:15
You can do it if you need to add oil.
26:17
I, I'd recommend, you know, just,
26:19
you know, you can always go into the
26:20
gas station and grab it,
26:23
you know, just buy a case of it
26:25
and always have it in your trunk.
26:26
That way, you know,
26:28
if you need to top it off, you can.
26:29
It's very important
26:30
and that those are the two things you need to do.
26:33
Lifeblood of getting 200,
26:35
300,000 miles out of your car.
26:36
Make sure you put gas in it.
26:37
Make sure you change the oil regularly
26:39
or at least make sure it's full of oil
26:41
and these cars can handle it.
26:43
They can get to 300,000 miles easily
26:46
if you do those two things.
26:49
taking your phone calls and number to call
26:54
Phone lines are wide open.

29:34
55KRZ is the talk station.
29:39
Taking your car questions
29:45
I mentioned Kentucky
29:46
and now all of a sudden
29:47
I've got three phone calls.
29:50
I got three phone calls,
29:56
if you're in the tri-state area,
29:57
you could be anywhere in the United States.
29:59
You can be anywhere in the world.
30:00
If you want to talk to me,
30:01
you can just go to the iHeart app

30:06
You can call me from...
30:08
Everybody has car problems.
30:10
I have car problems.
30:12
My wife certainly has car problems.
30:16
I was driving her car the...
30:23
you get a reverse light out.
30:28
Trying to get her car,
30:30
pry her car out of her hands
30:36
let's go back to the phones.
30:39
Welcome to the car show.
30:43
Well, I've got a problem.
30:44
I've got a 2017 Kia Sportage.
30:50
I've always had to put oil in it
30:52
since it's been new.
30:53
And I was told that that was normal.
30:57
here are the last several months.
31:00
Twice it started just out of the blue
31:03
and took it to our little favorite
31:06
mechanic down the road from us.
31:08
And he said that there was a spark plug
31:11
that was full of oil.
31:13
we cleaned the spark plug
31:15
and put it back in,
31:18
He charged me $280 both times.
31:22
And this last time,
31:23
he called me after he fixed it up
31:26
well, you really need to get a new car
31:28
or you need a new engine.
31:35
but I am up in my 70s
31:37
and I can't really afford a new car.
31:39
And I'm wondering if that is true
31:41
and what your advice is.
31:46
So yes, Kia and Hyundai's
31:47
and I'm not picking on them,
31:49
but they seem to be the worst.
31:51
Kia's, Hyundai's and Subaru's.
31:52
Now, again, I'm not picking on these models.
31:55
They are notorious for burning oil.
31:59
And that's why I kind of led
32:00
with the beginning of this.
32:04
They can't keep oil in them.
32:07
No, it's not normal.
32:11
No, it is not normal.
32:13
The way that these engines are designed,
32:17
the rings get all gummed up
32:19
and the basically what happens is the oil...
32:22
A lot of people go, hey,
32:24
I'm having to add oil to my car,
32:25
but there's nothing leaking.
32:26
It's like, well, because it...
32:28
You know, your pistons have
32:30
what's called piston rings
32:31
and that oil is forced past those rings
32:35
then burns inside the combustion chamber
32:37
where your spark plug is
32:38
and then that spark plug gets all fouled out
32:40
because it's just covered in oil over time
32:43
and then it goes out the tailpipe.
32:44
So first and foremost, no, it's not normal.
32:49
Hyundai and Kia have a class action lawsuit
32:53
and a lot of the times when these things come in blown up,
32:56
Hyundai and Kia are replacing the engines.
33:01
The downside to that is
33:03
if you called Kia right now and said,
33:05
hey, my car is burning oil, they'd say, okay.
33:08
And I know that you guys are replacing engines.
33:10
Well, they're not just going to replace it.
33:11
The only time they replace it is if it's blown up.
33:15
How many miles are on your Kia?
33:19
And I'll tell you, we've been laid on one oil change, one.
33:26
And of course, we bought the extra endurance,
33:31
I'll take to say it, but it is.
33:37
And I was told by the mechanic,
33:38
if you were laid on one oil change,
33:40
that they wouldn't do anything with it, that endurance wouldn't.
33:45
I don't know if that's...
33:46
I don't know that that's true.
33:47
I've not heard that.
33:49
That might be their policy.
33:51
I've never heard that.
33:52
But unfortunately, yes, with that amount of miles,
33:58
Hyundai's not going to do anything at this point.
34:00
But the only thing that you can do, yes,
34:03
you have to make sure that you are keeping oil in it regularly
34:06
and making sure that it's full.
34:08
But yeah, you would have to replace or rebuild that engine
34:14
in order to reverse what's going on with your vehicle.
34:20
And again, I talk about this all the time on the show
34:24
because a lot of times 99.9% of all people
34:28
that are driving these Hyundai's, these Kia's and these Subaru's
34:31
don't realize that their cars are burning oil.
34:33
And everybody always assumes that,
34:34
oh, well, an oil light will come on if the car's low on oil.
34:38
These oil lights don't come on.
34:39
I can't tell you the last time I saw a car
34:42
come into my shop with an oil light on.
34:48
So it's just being...
34:51
The fact that it's just awareness,
34:54
Understand that, yes, it is using oil
34:57
and making sure that you just check it regularly.
34:59
Again, get a case of oil, put it in the trunk
35:02
when you're filling up the car.
35:06
That's really the only thing you can do
35:07
unless you rebuild it with the age and the mileage
35:10
that would be extremely expensive.
35:13
And there's unfortunately...
35:16
Some people have...
35:19
There's a company out there called Seafoam.
35:21
A lot of people say you can put Seafoam in there
35:23
and that'll correct it.
35:24
There's another chemical company called Bearmans.
35:27
They claim that if you put it in the car, it'll fix it.
35:31
I haven't come across anything that reverses it.
35:34
Maybe makes it a little bit better,
35:36
but nothing truly reverses it unless you rebuild the engine.
35:41
So, you know, I get frustrated
35:47
when I hear these dealers say,
35:54
That is what they're being told,
35:57
I mean, if you go back just 10 years ago,
36:00
cars didn't burn oil as bad as they do today.
36:03
And, you know, I hate to say it.
36:05
You know, a conspiracy theorist to an extent,
36:10
but it's like these manufacturers are designed...
36:14
You know, their object is to sell vehicles.
36:17
They're designing it that way.
36:21
Planned obsolescence, you know, and...
36:24
Is it worth putting money into?
36:26
Is there anybody that would fix it,
36:28
that would rebuild it for less than a new engine?
36:31
Is there anything that can be done?
36:35
I'm looking at buying a new car
36:36
because I can't keep putting $280 into it
36:40
every time I turn around
36:41
and I can't afford what he quoted to me on the new engine.
36:45
Yeah, I mean, even a rebuild would still be just as expensive
36:50
And you don't want to put it...
36:51
You don't want to put a use...
36:52
A lot of times people go,
36:53
Well, what about use?
36:54
Well, you don't want to do use
36:55
because you're going to basically spend all that money
36:57
and that thing's going to be doing the same thing.
37:00
So, it's, you know, in my opinion...
37:05
Yeah, if you don't want to spend that type,
37:07
yeah, it's getting a new car.
37:09
I know that nobody wants a car note and have to...
37:12
But I would stay away from the Hyundai's...
37:15
All the Hyundai's, all the Kia's, all the Subaru's for sure.
37:20
And again, I'm not picking on them,
37:21
but they are the worst.
37:23
You know, you're...
37:24
Certain things about them that are good and...
37:28
But that's a bad thing.
37:30
Okay, so my next question,
37:31
and I don't know if you can tell me or not,
37:33
but if I buy another SUV,
37:38
small one for the rest of my days,
37:42
which way would you go?
37:44
I would either pick...
37:45
A new car, it's a brand.
37:46
Yeah, I would either pick if you...
37:49
A small SUV, I would do either the Toyota RAV4,
37:54
the Honda CR-V, or the Mazda CX-5.
38:00
Well, that's the three that I was looking towards.
38:03
I tell you what, the Honda and the Toyota,
38:05
you're gonna sit there and you go,
38:06
man, I can get so much more Mazda than I can for a Honda
38:14
The Mazdas, for some reason, nobody thinks about them.
38:18
I don't ever have never, ever have problems with Mazdas.
38:23
I think that you could probably get a brand new Mazda
38:26
for what you could have used Toyota or Honda.
38:30
Again, I love Honda.
38:32
Honda's my brand, but Mazda, they're low maintenance,
38:39
they're great cars, they're reliable,
38:41
and like I said, you could probably buy a new one
38:43
for what you could buy a used Honda or Toyota,
38:46
but those would be CX-5, Mazda CX-5,
38:49
Honda CR-V, or Toyota RAV4.
38:52
Those would be the three that I would focus on.
38:57
Hybrid would be fine.
38:59
However, if you're gonna do a hybrid,
39:01
only buy a hybrid in the Toyota.
39:09
Toyota has absolutely narrowed down and perfected the hybrid.
39:15
Honda and Mazda, I'm not there yet,
39:19
but Toyota, if you're gonna buy a hybrid, buy the Toyota.
39:23
And which one is it?
39:27
Well, I think they might have a hybrid RAV4,
39:33
but mostly what they...
39:38
That or the Prius, any model of the Prius.
39:41
Those Priuses are, in my opinion, in today's standards,
39:46
probably one of the most reliable vehicles on the road today.
39:50
I almost never have problems with the Prius.
39:55
But like I said, if you're gonna go hybrid, Toyota, period.
40:00
I sure appreciate this.
40:03
We were in a dilemma, so this has helped me a lot.

43:04
So I want to be polite
43:07
and try to get to these last two callers.
43:10
If I don't, I do apologize.
43:12
Please call me back next Saturday.
43:13
But I'd like to get to him.
43:15
So let's go to the phones.
43:17
Hey, Scott, welcome to the car show.
43:20
How you doing, Dane?
43:22
I have a 2011 Chevy Silverado.
43:27
And I was having problems with a hard start.
43:32
And I changed my fuel pump.
43:35
And I'm getting fuel.
43:38
So I figured it was the fuel injectors.
43:41
It's got the spider fuel injectors in it.
43:45
And mine don't have a return line.
43:50
And I put, I ordered one and got it.
43:55
And it had one with the return line.
43:58
Well, the truck would run, but it was spitting gas out.
44:04
So I took it out and ordered another one from Rock Auto.
44:08
It had a plug in where the return line is.
44:12
And the vehicle will not start.
44:16
And I was wondering if there's any,
44:19
if you would have any ideas what,
44:23
if anybody rebuilds them because they don't have a factory,
44:28
factory replacement.
44:31
What, what it says here, this is a,
44:33
it's a 2011 Chevy Silverado.
44:40
And you, you only replaced one injector or all of them?
44:47
It's a spider fuel injector system.
44:50
And you have to replace the whole set.
44:57
So, and then after you've done that, so you,
45:00
it was starting, but you just had a hard start, correct?
45:06
A hard start on, on, okay.
45:08
And then after replacing those,
45:12
and you said there's a, like it's capped off.
45:14
The, the, the return line is capped off.
45:19
And is it cranking?
45:24
It's just not, and do, I mean, do you know for sure?
45:27
No, I'm not firing.
45:28
When, when the problem's gone, sorry, go ahead.
45:32
I was going to say, are you, are you, do you know for sure
45:34
that you're getting, you're getting fuel?
45:38
I put a gauge on it and I'm getting fuel to the front.
45:43
I had 60 pounds of fuel.
45:50
Um, I don't, uh, I don't know anybody off the top of my head
45:55
that could rebuild them.
45:58
I'm willing to bet, go ahead.
46:03
No, I, I'm willing to bet that, that, that part that you put.
46:06
So let me ask you something.
46:08
You would, you bought a part.
46:11
It had the return line, but it was leaking.
46:13
So you, you buy one from Rock Auto.
46:16
You put that on and now it won't start.
46:19
And you, you're getting good fuel pressure.
46:21
You're getting fuel to that part and it won't start.
46:27
Will it start on ether starting fluid?
46:32
Um, if I spray a little spray with the old fuel injector,
46:38
that's what I just, that's how I determined that was the fuel injectors was dirty.
46:45
It would start on ether.
46:47
Now with the new injector, with the plug in it, I spray ether in there,
46:56
But now on my original one, it would.
47:01
Oh, you've got, you've got, uh, um, man, I, that's something that I would
47:07
probably have to, I'm, I'd have to, you'd have to get so many to look at.
47:12
Off the top of my head, sir, I, I don't, I don't know off the top of my head.
47:17
I, that's something, that's something that, uh, we'd have to spend a little bit of time
47:23
I don't know why it would, why it would do that.
47:26
I mean, I'm willing to bet that there's something wrong with that part that you
47:28
got, but you know, I understand that you don't have that many options.
47:35
With it being 11, it's, it's hard to get, you know, factory parts because
47:38
they're, they're not going to make me.
47:40
They're going to be obsolete and you got to go with what's available.
47:42
And I get that, um, unfortunately, no, I, I don't have anything, uh, off
47:48
the top of my head that, uh, I'd like to know though.
47:51
I mean, if you could, uh, I think you're going to have to get it to a
47:57
Um, I know Scott up at community car care.
48:01
I live in Allen's, Andrew.
48:03
And, and I'm going to call him, I guess, and maybe see if he'd be
48:08
willing to look at it for me.
48:09
I'm known him forever, but I'm, I'm not a mechanic, but I do all my
48:17
service work myself if I can.
48:21
Well, I tell you what, it's, it, it, it, these newer cars, man, it
48:25
gets harder and harder and harder to do anything.
48:28
I mean, sometimes on these, some of these newer cars, you pop
48:30
the hood and you can't even find out where to put oil in it.
48:33
Um, yes, sir, they do everything they possibly can to
48:37
deter you from touching that thing.
48:41
I figure with the 2011 that I wouldn't have that much of an
48:45
issue, but apparently, uh, it's considered old, but yeah,
48:50
I know, I know for taking the call and very welcome.
48:54
I will let you know.
48:56
I want to call me back with a report.
49:02
Everett, I am going to be, I, if you could call me back.
49:06
I'm running out of, I'm up against the clock here.
49:09
I got to get going.
49:11
So please call me back or you can call me at, um, one of
49:15
I will be this week.
49:17
I will be at the ridge road location.
49:19
So you're welcome to call me there.
49:21
Um, for those of you who did call, I really do appreciate
49:25
Uh, everybody enjoy their weekend.
49:28

49:43
a win tonight and, uh, the bangles.
