A deep dive into the decline of aftermarket car entertainment systems reveals the challenges enthusiasts face today. The hosts discuss how manufacturers are increasingly locking down their systems, making it difficult for aftermarket companies to compete. They reminisce about the past when customizing car audio was a rite of passage and explore the implications of modern vehicles becoming more like closed ecosystems, akin to Apple products. The conversation highlights the frustrations of limited options, high costs for upgrades, and the potential loss of enjoyable in-car experiences as technology evolves.

Joined by James form Man Vs Movies and Alam, tonights show is an interesting one, with car companies having their own in car entertainment systems and essentially killing the aftermaket, where does it leave you the consumer? Can you update? Where to next?
"model of avocado, I'll put it out. Let's just saying how, you know, I 30 could because my uncle just recently bought a base model one Brand-new. And because for the higher ones that I came with, like a Bluetooth, I think you've got to heal up little a bit, like they came with sat-nav and everything else."
"Toyota Zuzu Zuzu. Yeah. Question, 10. The most that RX-8 is rotary engine is what size and capacity are excited."

You're on car talk with Maddie. Jay still in the studio with
James and alam's. How you doing, boys?
Good. Thanks.
Thank you already. Just talk about cars now and
finish with the movies for the moves are gonna change topics.
We're going to move on from for movies.
So what you just heard before was a man versus movies with James, give his Facebook page alike, it's Man vs movies, it really doing good things, two episodes in really exciting stuff tonight, we're going to be having a having a good discussion about incre entertainment ice because over the last 10 years. We really seen the the, the
Peaks and the lows, they found lows and I think we're sitting in the lows to possibly a progress to the death.
Yep. Of at least optioned in car,
audio, or incur entertainment? I should say, and there's a bit
of the variety reasons. Why I one one, one reason would
be, for example, manufacturers are making it harder to install other things and and giving you a quick score on ICC in interior Command Center. So it's harder to put
aftermarket stereo and loads. Still possible, but it's like an
iPhone. Pretty much of cars.
Pretty much aren't I can add anything.
Yeah, exactly, right. So, um, yeah, as James said that
they're big, they're becoming pretty much like an Apple products. We just can't do anything, I'm
probably lose half my listeners. Now they're probably will have
to have got mine for any, I'll still there, but it's um, I've like, I don't know. I especially I've lived through
the same when, you know, putting a big sound system in your car.
Was it was really was really big and really and really I wouldn't know the first thing you did after you got your car.
Yeah, well, it's like a reminder of stereo.
Yep. Good, you know, you had to super
cheap or do you had to JB Hi-Fi audio and you'd immediately go put your mind together? Get the best one, you could
throw get your friends together, then start stole during the cables together. And it was fun because I'm at
the end of the day, you brought your friends together and and you got to learn a bit more about your car.
I don't know if you're for their listeners overseas and stuff especially in Victoria, we got a really really stringent enthused Mountain Camp car car. I was basically and, you know,
that had to modify to an extent. So, pretty much when I was a
people at I because we weren't allowed to turbos, or anything was a, it was a five hundred dollar car, five thousand dollars sound system, so, and no BS.
That's what my old sounds. There was James.
Remembers it. Like so, I stir used to be
pretty crazy. So, I was bigger than the car.
Actually, it actually started like the interior panels were like getting rock that far out. It was, it was pretty stuffed,
but at the end of the day it was what made of fun.
And you know, I love shopping around for my speakers from my head units. For my sub whirring Kitt?
Yeah. Even like Neons and and and all
that stuff. Yeah.
Okay. To be a writer these days.
And it's not in Fast and Furious.
Look kindly upon these days but it's it was your car, it was your customization, it was what you wanted to do.
And this is going a little further further back in, you know, the mid 90s are recall us. Having a I believe is a
Mitsubishi Sigma. In New Zealand and sigma that
didn't have the standard in configuration.
So we actually had to saw part of the castle and we did it.
One of the things we soldered the wires that went, we figured out where they went and we did it and over time, you've excuse me, you had this increase in accessibility with the standard in configuration, the the doubled in configuration for you know, much larger screens so you could get Video GPS or, you know, other added, I guess benefits in your entertainment system and I thought that was, you know, that was probably some of the best stuff but now we're slowly moving away from that to the point where you can't wear the integrated system is all you
get. And if you are going to modify
that you better be ready for thousands of dollars worth of I guess fixing and you do certainly get choices with automatic tournament mode. Of Manufacturers, they give you,
I guess a plethora of choices with stereos, I guess, speaker choices. Layouts, possibly even DVD or
stew, PS integrated into the system, but there are car manufacturer and they're looking to make a car and they will be looking to make a profit when you've gotten certain companies out there that are solely focused on the in-car entertainment. They're guaranteed guaranteed to
do a better job. They guarantee to, I guess stay
ahead of the market. Bring you the, the newest, the
news content newest products. With, I guess the best video
quality, or the best sound quality, and where you've got a car manufacturer, they carrying a bag, I guess, bringing out units. Making sure they're compatible
with the next generation of car. They're not concerned about, you
know, you getting the best experience in your car.
So them now taking away that I guess the the perfect double DIN configuration. Is pretty much causing an
industry-wide shutdown of of in-car entertainment.
My nearest JB Hi-Fi does not have a car.
Entertainment section actually went in initially, when I got my Subaru because I wanted a new head unit they just bake told me flat out. We don't have one go to another
store and I was essentially what I had to do so slowly.
I believe most JB Hi-Fi is actually getting rid of their there in kind determine areas, phasing them out.
And it's really interesting is that because it is it is Very sad. I've throughout serum on Tommy
are playing around with the 18th green with me cause.
And especially since it seems to see the development that's that's happened, for example, you know, my brother had an energy xi6 before this and he had a standstill in his car and he's the buzz, really, really bad and what we spoke to the people. They're like, yeah, it's the
factory site. The factory ICC unit there
because because you can't put the aftermarket one in, it's running off that and it It just doesn't get that right connection and he's like, this is why people don't bother with it anyone that they just accept it and, you know, just like whatever and it's at its really ruined.
Um, it run through experiences car companies, don't think of the future they think of now. What's going to make them money?
Exactly. So, you know, if at the end of
the day, if you're, for example, digital digital radio, that's, that's where we're going to be heinous, because go all the analog systems are eventually going to be shut down.
They haven't thought that far ahead that and, and, and, and these people were He's like ICC is going to be like, well, radio, exact cars are going to be pretty much pointless.
Is going to listen to CDs. Oh, wait buffets in those out as
well. So, at, for example, my work we
sell stereo like head units without CD players because they're actually getting those shooting phased out as just now multimedia player. Yes.
And and, and that's what is look.
We're going to first bring the night, okay?
So I will still in the studio with a lemon and James from Man versus movies. Give you another plug there.
Well, we'll talk about incurring the timer and basically car car companies. What they doing to stop the
aftermarket happening especially in the last 10 years, provide strangling out, I guess companies that were flourishing earlier. Now, we're making really good
products that we're giving people providing people with pretty much the service. Really.
And now we take it away, but earlier you mentioned bringing Digital radio. Yeah, and my current unit it
doesn't have digital read even though I changed it at recently.
Yeah, I just got something that would I guess.
Take care of my needs for the foreseeable future and when you know, analog radio is taken down, I can easily.
At least assuming they're still selling head units of the store.
Yeah, choose something that would once again, suit my needs.
Perhaps this time, it'll be doubled in.
It'll have maybe a screen GPS, some some DVD playability extra Flex. You sure features an extra
features that I feel like getting and paying for and I can just pop that in. And once again, I am on the
road, it is working. Whereas, if you've got yourself,
I've got five unfortunately for in the name and integrated system, your you very hard-pressed, actually get that.
I guess fixed and most probably at that time you'll be out of warranty. So if you car so you'll be
really pretty much left out in the dark as to what to do.
Because it's Fuzzy system that they've built so, you know, not everyone's going to know how to work on it and we do not know how to actually take it out and see what they can do.
So you'll most likely going to not be able to listen to the radio. Hopefully, you'll be able to,
you know, listen to some CDs. But it's something.
You might think it's not a big deal, and I'm maybe we're just making a big fuss about it, but hopefully people are listening to us on the radio right now and it's one of those things when you're driving seldomly, You just driving along in silence.
You are doing something you'll possibly listen to the radio Podcast, something like that for me A lot of times it's music.
And if I'm on the leisurely drive or from I'm going somewhere that music is essential otherwise you just get very very bored quickly and it can even be a podcast if you really want. And it's just it's something
that we I guess take take for granted these days and losing that or lose the ability to do that.
The way we To in the future. It looks like it may make her
and you know, I'm not Homestead. Sure, maybe car companies will
turn around and give us more customizability, but it's really not in their interest to do. So it is and it's just having a
nice song having it play in the type of quality.
You want is integral to your journey and integral.
If you're a car guy you're they're experiencing the car itself, then I guess the best. Isaac can make all the
difference to maybe a mountain Cruise or something like that.
You've got the right music, just the right atmosphere and I think that's essential and it's just a great experience that you just can't get anywhere else. Yeah, and the car companies,
unfortunately, threatening to take that away.
Yeah, I couldn't agree with you more.
I suppose I've seen recently with, like, what from what, from, where I work. I want to give my plug but the
book is this like, aftermarket accessory book for head units and it's by chemical called We are pro and they for most cars are far like a replacement head unit but for once, they from most cars, they'll freeze on what you sent him as a three.
Yeah. Since the first Mazda3 it's all
been one unit and you have to change the whole thing which is really expensive and laborious task for my sister's Calvary and she's going to shoot a series 1 BK and to just to change that to put a to put in your screen or something in there, you look at us, you 700 bucks. Even more if your Nana's with no
features. You know, so this company offers
like a replacement you can put like a double-dealer of seaweed in there but at the end of the day you lose your functionality and only a few cards get the functionally with you know, to keep your ticket, your steering wheel controls could to keep your you know to keep everything is kind of still working.
Right? We're working really well.
Yeah and if you want to have that for some cock cars like a, you know, like a Commodore a falcon like you know, something a bit more accessible, even a Toyota, they'll offer a patch and but that's their patch. Mr. Hunter back.
So if you weigh it up, you look at from what should have been like a 200 dollar replacement head unit, you're going to be looking at spending on 600 bucks exactly and that's I guess a company that's providing a service.
You know for people looking after market if you want possibly a similar service from a car dealership you're looking at in the thousands. Yeah.
You want a subwoofer or any kind of I guess a greater variety of speakers better speakers or a better unit.
Thousands. And it's usually it's a subpar
product compared to what you can get on the market for a similar price or even less money and overall.
It's you, you just feel like you're getting ripped off.
Yeah. Well, I do like for some
companies that they offer, like your premium sound.
If you as an option, if you want to buy your car but the premise has rubbish compared to the stuff you can buy anyway.
Yeah. So and then they charge you
absolute premium for it but you can only get that with certain options and is another thing that pisses me off with car commies well, Basically, when you option something, if you option like safe with every option, like a tech pack, okay, you'll get like doing it. Like I'm, you know, little
functions here and there, but then you'll be like, okay, to access these other ones you need to buy the, you know, the luxury pack. So then you end up spending more
money and your this. Yeah, they're spending like,
it's what should have been, really stock your stocks, and in the first place. Yeah, this thing is like another
six or seven Grand just to get that one function working exactly. A, you you're paying for things
that you really don't want ya. All for, it's similar to, I
guess, pay TV in certain cases, you pay.
A lot more channels than yours. You're going to use and well at
least with the pay-tv case it's usually you know fifty two hundred dollars more a month. Whereas in this case it's
thousands and thousands of dollars tho that everyone wants to spend that. Not everyone can it seems like
another vodka for you can afford to just walk out money like that like like for example if I was to change it in my in my F6 they don't actually offer a screen replacement.
You can put it that if you put a single DIN in there but it's at the bottom it looks ugly and you lose your functionality of your See, and it's kind of ruins it, you know, it's pointless.
But at the other day, you can't have, you can't have a, because the car didn't come with you, as being put it came with an AUX input, but you have to buy that separately believe in.
I was stupid thing. So, so technically, if you want
to have like a USB game ease of access or anything, you have to buy that extra, the car coming should allow to should have this and I should allow for aftermarket companies as well to have extensions on their product.
So to say okay well if we're not going to offer it to you, Will be can at least figure out ways to do it.
Exactly. At least.
Leave it. Open for somebody else.
Who's willing to do it? Yeah, instead of locking
everything down, you know, making sure it's impossible.
If you know, to get to in some cases, very difficult.
But some cases even impossible to the point where you'll break things, it's just it's absurd, really?
When you think about it, well, in Malaysia, for example, I've had this head this head unit in there and then they said, you know, I've had in like three cars and in my first car I bought it like close to 10 years ago.
It was like one of the first Bluetooth ones came with like three RCA out to USB port stuff like that.
It was like the top that was like the top one before you go to it like a DVD player sort of thing and yeah it's been great.
It's our it's know it's they'll move from one laser to another laser to end in nothing when it was in a camera at one stage and an on my in the laser, you know, it's so much easier because it connects to my first, I can answer phone calls, you know, I can stream music off my phone, do all that sort of stuff without without even touching Find right in the F6 which is like a car that's close to like 6 years newer.
Doesn't have any of those functions, you know, it's going to a, uh, cable and a CD player. But you know, if I wanted to add
the other things in its time and money that you should have, you should have to spend exactly. And it's and at the end of the
day, these carrying factors making so hard for you to alter anything that the aftermarket companies companies like for example like you like a JVC or I could Pioneer or Alpine order to whatever whatever the brain might be.
They're finding it harder to like integrate their products.
So that so like to work, that's why you're seeing a reduction of head units or reduction of the party can get for head units.
Like, for example, over saying before they're phasing out, CD players, and they're making tacos.
So like for example, a head unit tent, like 10 years, you're like the best one was like 600 bucks here like another had everything I wanted to got to base your Basics is like 100 bucks now and then they'll starve your kind of like, you know, that they won't have a CD player, but I'll just have a USB port and an AUX At the end of the day, you know, car companies are like really shutting these other companies down but that's what they want to do. So how to get around this?
Well from the newer cars it's going to be a lot harder and ten years down the track. You're not gonna have to support
from the manufacturer. You're not going to support from
from even after market because they're not going to know what to do. So I think what needs to happen
for like for our scar guys is for us to say, hang on a minute, like we need to have this functionality.
We need to, we need to be able to, to say, hey I want to change my unit, ten years down the track and not Because it's because our existing was going to be sobs delete that we that we we're not gonna be able to use it anymore.
So what we need to, we need to be able to have that.
I have that ability to say, okay, you know, I'm going to go down to, to your, to your local super cheap or to your local JB and just get a head unit and stick and that's going to be up to date. Going to work going to give you
going to give me what I need. Because you know what, while the
new the new functions of the stir companies are bringing out our good, You know, five years out of date.
Exactly. So they most of the time they're
barely on par with what you can get at the time.
Exactly. Right.
And it's Duty just just the nature of the Beast.
They want to make things to make a profit.
They're all about fitting the units into multiple cars.
You know, they've got their own restraints.
Yeah, it's part of the not, they're not good at it.
There's other companies, there are much better at doing this job and they're strangling them, they're essentially, you're just taking this pot. They'll doing Good job of taking
the spot. They just kind of forcing their
way in. And as you were saying five
years down the track, it's going to be outdated, you're not going to change it. When you've got cars from, you
know, people driving cars from the 60s for their, you've got an old Mustang. You're not using the AM radio
most of the time. If somebody is interested in
listening to music, while they're driving the install, you're just a head unit. Maybe even the glove box, glove
box. Wire it up and it's because the
car is from such an old Period. Where you know, they were there
was no din standard. It was nothing like that,
there's just the AM radio. It's from such an all period
that you have to do that. Making people do that to their
cars that are released in the 2000s.
Seems absolutely absurd. It does.
And, and and look, I can't companies like life is a like here you GM your Ford, your Toyota that they've got their own like kind of like they're very like, like, would you say like fascia so like the W like that incorporate like?
Kampai and then stuff like that. Like I think they got like my
like James got like my link and and Ford's got I forgot even what the hell fall before. It's cool.
But it's got a sink, though. They sink.
But at the end of the day, when the new ones going to this is this, the other point is that bad thing that when the new ones come through they're not going to they're going to offer the support or if they do it's going to be going to charge.
You ought to update your update, your ICC.
You know, they're going to say okay well if you want to come to the latest update to the latest version, we're going to charge you an arm and a leg to do it. Exactly.
Because they hold power, no one else has it.
It's the dealerships or the car companies.
And you've got other choice of just sticking with what you have, or just paying through the nose.
And I've lost my train of thought.
Well yeah, look for example, with my F6 year so from the factory you could have bought it with GPS.
It was a five grand option. Key, like, 5, gallons, a tough,
tough, tough. Just what a GPS satellite
navigation. All that is because when I but
when I bought mine, I didn't have it.
I went to the after market place that sells you the cells, pretty much, its exact unit, the genuine unit for 10 bucks.
I wanted to myself it was just plug and play, you know, that to charge, five, grand for and, and bleep people tons of people did.
And to say that, if you can't, if you don't do it, we're not going to offer it to you. It is frankly, it's just a joke
and it's unfair for the consumer because consumer getting bullied and the smaller companies are getting And yeah, and when people to go after market like they're gonna be like, okay well you can have compatibility issues as well, so car companies are making it easier for us. Like you know, just I'm not
asking will car guys to like update and stained Loop without forking out big money, which at the end of the day, look it car companies are there to make money, but they should really think of us consumers as well and it's, I can understand trying to get in on a market that shows I guess profitability. The I mean, Before the car going
to start stringing them out, you know the companies making in kind of statement, we're making a pretty good profit and it's just usually when you come in to take the market away from your competitors, you're providing a better service and there are unfortunately not they're providing a service.
I also recall with my Prius my Falcon the yes, option.
For an AUX input was I think approximately 150 $200?
Yeah. And you Was it seemed like it
was a big job to do. Maybe there was some special
kind of wiring that need to be done or perhaps you just took a very long time. Me being, you know, the
resourceful young man, I am, I looked up and looked it up on the internet. I'm second drop, I found out
that you can actually buy the part from.
In this case, it was an auto parts store and I went in purchase apart for approximately.
I think it was $30. I could have got an even cheaper
if I waited and bought it online, but I was in a hurry because I want to listen to my own music and just I was We'll just laying in the parking lot in, you know, underneath the dash of my car, why'd it up? And I was good to go.
So it was $30 and approximately 10 to 15 minutes.
A struggle under the Eastern side of the dash and tons of swearing profanity. And I said, and it just the the
comp the comparison of, you know, the 30 dollar part this is from a, you know, an order of pasta that's also making money.
The part very much would cost. Five dollars at most, if that
you Putting in a five dollar part that's going to take you.
If you're, you know, if you're already working on the cars and you know what to do, it'll take you five minutes at most.
It's really unjustifiable to be charged to our dolls that and yet they are and only silence reposes want to investigate to see what they can do themselves. They're gonna have to pay that
all miss out and I guess I'd like to fight against that because like well I'll put it to you on.
What do you think like in Karen's having Heading by like, did you do? Thing that eventually all cars
going to be the gonna be going to be like this there where there's no external factors where there's no where they went. That allow for external, you
know, menu, external, you know, brands, for example, to integrate their own products to they're going to be that shut down that only. If anything happens, even even
if your tender ten years, ten years down the track and say, your unit breaks down that the only people are going to be some other dealership. Yeah, into the future.
I really feel that that's where the industry wants to head to the point. They're in control and what they
give you is what you get if you want something a bit more extravagant you definitely will pay through the nose.
Yeah, but the biggest problem with that is your final with other issues that usually have with cars as well, later on down the track when you're out of warranty, when it's been 5 to 10 years, the dealership doesn't want to know you exact unless you wanted to pay an exorbitant amount of money which just it's prohibitively expensive. It's there's no point in.
You could possibly get in some cases There's a new car for what it might cost you to fix or fit in a brand new unit.
So if you know, your car is 10, 10 years old and you bought it for a while, you know, twenty thousand dollars.
It's now depreciate to the point where you really could get a brand new car for the price of they'll probably charge to replace your unit. So maybe that's what they want.
Maybe they just want people to keep this, replace their cars, it's planned obsolescence. And that's what I'm, that's what
I think. They're common factors are
there. They're taking Again I sorry
Apple guys but they're taking it off the Apple guys.
You know they're wanting to bring in a new thing every year and you know say okay well if you want to if you want to be up to this you have to upgrade or you have to do this and you know, it's it shouldn't be that way.
But at the end of the day, they're there to make money.
So what I think you should do. For example, if you buy a base
model of avocado, I'll put it out.
Let's just saying how, you know, I 30 could because my uncle just recently bought a base model one Brand-new.
And because for the higher ones that I came with, like a Bluetooth, I think you've got to heal up little a bit, like they came with sat-nav and everything else.
There is an aftermarket support to do that.
So if he wants to go, five years and Tracer, okay.
I'll be like to put something on it, they can be like our well, you know what? It's going to cost you a lot of
money or you're going to make your major better off in buying a new car. It's it's giving the people not
a good chance to say, okay well I want to go through you guys I want to go through my yeah like another company that offer a better product. But in this leg on that note,
then they're not going to allow it, so it kind of makes it hard but that's that's where that's where we're heading.
And a problem arising from that is if there's no incentive for the car companies to do better, why would they be exactly right?
So they've strangled out this aftermarket competition.
Now, they're just the ones in control of your in car entertainment and if you don't like it, well too bad and it's it gives them. Send it to give you improvements
I guess competitively over other you know car companies.
They may want to provide you a better product but afterwards once they sold you the car then you've got nothing that's it.
Well put it this way, a friend of a friend of mines got a it was brand-new when this happened.
And is it only a few years? It's only three is all this car
and they they bought they would have been you to bring a telephone and they paired it up to the end to the Bluetooth and the actual, the phone like the stuffed up to you.
Because the phone was to new. The Bluetooth says was too new
for that car. Now, lucky they were in
warranty, they had to have that they're having a year two years ago their warranty. Because if they didn't, if they
didn't, they would have to of it's a ten thousand dollar units. That's when she's icy Seas cost
like and a minimum and they they were paired up for them and they're like all your friends, just not compatible, and we haven't figured out an update to do a sir.
They've had a phone that's not compatible to what unit or Bluetooth unit which is frankly, ridiculous, it is and look, we can't in this. We're going to go to him to our
next song. Go to a quick break.
If you give us a taste of on your thoughts about this car audio issue that we're having, it's becoming it's going to be an issue in about ten years. One sees all these.
These newer cars are going to be obsolete.
So 0.47 trouble of setting, a no double for double, seven, double
79, 89, 90 double for double, seven, double 79, 89.
Give us your thoughts. Give us your ideas of how that
of how companies can fix this. What people happy to hear from
you. We're going to get to the quiz
shortly, but in the meantime, we're going to come up with some he has of how awful, what's going to happen to try, fix this issue. I'll, I mean there was already
really a solution. The solution was built, get a
doubled and solution is the den standard.
It made sure that no matter what Caillou had, you could change things and I am a strong believer of if it ain't broke, don't fix it. But I am also a believer of if
you need to make Improvement, if you can make it better, you know, you should try this. Definitely hasn't made things
better. In the third car, we have at
home. This is a GSX for.
We purchased that in 2008 and it has an amazingly futuristic MP3 CD player. So you know that's the one
thing, the one awesome feature we've done is no Ox input, there's no USB. So we're essentially stuck with
the one CD or a radio and once once as you said before, Digital radio takes over and is no more analog radio.
We've got nothing, which will be rather unfortunate, but hopefully the coal will not be in my house.
All at that time, and I guess someone else's problem early, as you were saying with the the planned obsolescence.
It's a great thing we see in the tech World, particularly, with Apple products, and other uniforms, after about two years, your phone tends to, you know, Slow Down, slow down dramatically. The battery doesn't really keep
up. You eventually forced to replace
it. And it's a bit of a hassle for
People. I yeah, I generally Embrace new
tech so I don't mind it. Unfortunately, my wallet does
mind is very much but the the key thing I guess for a lot of these, if it's your phone or your laptop or your TV thing to note, a lot of those things sit within that I guess 1,000 to if you really, really fancy with your TV, six thousand dollar price range and at least four phones, they're relatively replaceable you can in two years just get A new phone you can in two years really want to get a new TV.
It's within the reach of, I'd say the majority of the working public, but a car, it's an expensive investment, exactly.
The car, you, you plan on keeping a car for in some cases, 20 years. Some people just don't want to
let go their car until I die and the prices as well.
For cars, I'd say a majority of cars will set you back at least fifteen thousand dollars for like the smaller base model kind of cars and if you're reaching up there, if you need a bigger For bigger family, for example, just falcon or Commodore.
Even though they've been discontinued.
You'd be looking at around 35,000 and if you want something I guess nice to maybe a sports car, a Mustang, you looking in the 60,000 us and just, you know, in that from I guess the 15,000 to sixty thousand dollar price range, I guess, other cars that most of us would grasp and that is much much higher than just a thousand dollar phone, it is so having to replace that after two years is just absurd. So to think about, but even five
years, I'd say still for a lot of people, it's too much.
You know. I think needs to happen, Alice
sorry to interrupt here is because with most new cars, it's all integrated, it's all to look at that.
Don't you write the clean, fish does look good, it does and it makes it was sleek and and look good.
But I think what needs to happen is that if car manufacturers are going to look, it's not going to happen.
But in my ideal world, if this would happen is that if coming fracture site I will this is our product and when the car like when they bring out the new version, they'll be like okay if you want to upgrade to your own thing, here's a excuse me, he's like a facial kit. Or here's something that you can
use that. You can put your own unit in and
give you give you the option. That's already interrupt when
this is a really bad analogy. But when you know, the 360 came
out and they're like, oh, you can customize the face plates and no one did. That's wouldn't it be like that?
It's like, it's like a fake. A fake thing.
They're trying to put up a smoke screen saying no, you can actually customize it but really it's just their version of whatever they want you to. I was thinking that if they'd
give you what like a facial I like to all still matches in but you can put your own head unit in there and your own text because because because head units and like as we know Tech in general. Just it just is constantly like
you buy it. One day, two days later, it's
your hair. It's a, it's a date.
So to keep our to keep update like they are the options offered to I'm just like two solutions.
They offer, like a really cheap alternate, like a cheap update, that'll that'll keep you going for another 10 years or they give you that option of putting your own unit in there.
And I, and I think they should do something that should really do that because if they don't, people are going to be turned away from buying new cars and be like, well, all this text just going to, you know, be outdated in like, a year's time.
When my new phone were connected connected, the car so that this whole infotainment system, he is pointless.
So, they need to offer the lenders offer the support and, and And the feedback to be able to say, okay, you know what you do you new Samsung Galaxy 50,000.
Is it is available and it's not compatible without a unit come in. And when will happily updated
for you? Will get happily happily update
your ICC. So it all matches in.
That's what I need to do to see what happens.
I don't think they need to either embrace the tech and say well we'll give you for the like films.
Okay? Let's say one of these new cars
will last 15 years for that 15 years at a warranty period will still give you You know your update so you can use your latest tech you can eat and you can still kind of make it work with what we what we heard of people have to come in to to get that done. I do you know, I don't think
people are gonna think yeah if they could do it at home and if they go from because it's because they all cause these, as your USB ports. But if they don't, you know, you
might have played in through your OBD2 port or stuff like that. At the end of the day, they're
not going to do it because it's not, it's going to cost them money. But for the for your general
consumer, Then I'm gonna be able to afford a new car every year anyway so it's a it's a it's a it's a, it's a win, win win lose situation. If you're not a mean, I do
really like the idea of a car company offering, I guess a fair shake it. We're just a double DIN or
something insert so you can install your own unit as you wish. It just doesn't seem like they
would do it. They have no incentive to do it
unfortunately but that would be a pretty good solution along with just providing He updates. Yeah, that is still at least
software-wise keep things going Hardware, unfortunately probably a much different. It's a different thing yet but
as I said, with my scars before they're running like a my link or a sink system, what you want to be able to do is you want to be able to still, you know, still have that functionality and kind of a kind of make it work with what you have.
So if you if you offer offer the updates and narrow and commit to it great. But if you don't well it's going
to. It's going to really it's going
to really catch a lot of You play up.
Look at some, it's quiz time. I think arms in the in the in
the safe for tonight. Now I don't think there's a
chance of me being on the leaderboard, not too bad.
I think I think you're like your third or something.
I don't, but I'm tired with a few people and that's what type of the few people. But um, you know, you y'all was
impressed with your, with your last performance.
So I are you ready for this? I am, but just just a quick
question. So if I get a lower score on
this quiz, I still keep my old standing.
You do. That's correct.
You did. I'm not going to take that away
from. I'll appreciate that.
I think, I think otherwise we got a lower score than they need to do a couple weeks previously. And he's just like, oh crap, but
I'll get these top scorer, your top, score counts.

It is the back, huh?
