a little bit and I guess we'll get into that in your updates, But no, just just enjoying driving while all the cars are working right now. So that's been good.

And the rago is doing well. The raga is really good, Yeah,

it's been, it's been eating up the kilometres like nothing.

We're just getting the car update, so Chad's given us his update with his lovely Rago. Any other updates Chad or that

or that? No, yeah, not nothing else.

I kind of, I guess there's a car update and I, you know, it's driving related. I, I gave my wife a manual

driving lesson and she did really well.

She, she did a lot of like, you know, slow, slow take offs and didn't stall it as much as I, you know, expected.

So that was good. Excellent.

She did a bunch of going forwards and reversing and then we went for a little, you know, 1st to 2nd gear action and around the corner and stuff. So yeah, she, she, she, she did

really well. So hopefully she'll want to have

another lesson. Going in.

It was the I30. I just thought it might be the

easiest car to you know, it'll it'll be the most comfortable seating and steering wise. Otherwise all the other cars are

a bit silly. Yeah, if the Civic was like

stock standard with a regular seat, I think that would be the perfect car. But otherwise the I think is

quite sensitive in terms of the clutch release.

It's, I think you might have one of those delay valves which a lot of those new manual cars had.

So yeah, yeah. So you kind of like, it doesn't

give you a full feel of the the fiction point and all that stuff. So she struggled a little bit

with, you know, taking it off, just using the clutch without any gas and stuff. So and then I, you know, slowly

introduced her to give it a little bit of gas.

And yeah, it's, that worked well after that.

But yeah, it was, it was good. She hopefully she enjoyed it

dude, she told me. At least she did so.

Yeah, well, she did enjoy it when you when you had a gun, when you had a gun to to the to her bag.

So you better bloody enjoy it. Yeah, well, you know, yeah,

she's in this life now, so. The danger with that is that the

the danger with with the learning in the I30 is she'll get into any other manual on cargo.

This doesn't go as fast as as there must be something wrong with it. This doesn't snap, crackle and

pop when I come off the gas. I made sure that she was in

economy mode for the least amount of acceleration as possible, but no, we're in a really quiet area of toddler marine and there's nothing else around.

Yeah, nice. Yeah, no, it was good.

What have I done? I've been enjoying driving the

Renault because it's back on the road, you know, after I did the break. So I took it up to the

Dandenongs on Saturday with a friend of mine and yeah, it's running very nicely and it, it fitted in perfectly up there in the autumn colours of the hills. It sort of blended right in.

And she even picked up a leaf and and said I think that's track yellow because I told you I was telling you and I said oh, I think that's a bit light. Anyway, bugger me, she was

right. We got back in the can't, held

the leaf up, and it was exactly that.

But we're sitting in this cafe. I had to laugh because she was

telling me this story and I'm like, uh huh.

And I sort of got a bit distracted at one point looking out the window because a beautiful white TS Magna waggon pulled in and it had the key drop alloys on it.

Which of course, our friend, or our new Magna friend Sam wants a set of those, yes. So.

I was just sort of, I said, oh, I'm sorry, I'm just distracted by that, Magna. And I had to explain why and.

Then you ever thought you'd say you're?

The only person to ever say those words.

And I was, I was watching the guy come back to it and he was sort of a long haired youngish guy and it had S Australian plates on it. And I thought, oh, he's

obviously driven it over from SA.

And I thought, well, either maybe I'll try and buy the wheels off him or just tell him to come to Magna Fest.

But but there was a long way around to get from where we were right around the outside of the building to where the the car was visible. And I just like CPF.

You know what? I hear excuses, Edward.

That's that's cool. But on the way back from that,

we were just on a meandering bit of an adventure and we went to this plant nursery that she likes and, and it was very good.

Actually, I liked it too. Anyway, we're coming back down

Canterbury Rd and I was like, oh, you know what's quite nearby? A little bit of pick apart and

she's like, well, pick apart and I'm like, well, you're about to find out. So we, we go in and she's never

been into a wrecker in her life. Like this is very, you know,

this is very uncharted territory of her.

But she was sort of intrigued. She says, Oh my God, look at

these cars. And she started taking photos of

these cars. That one's got no front and that

one's got no this. And she was quite taken with the

destruction of it all. And, and I said, oh, this is the

European section and the full drives down the bottom.

And we had a had a bit of a tour of pick apart.

I got a floor mat. So I got the front left mat for

the Wasp, which means I now have a full set of mats for that car.

I think one of them's a slightly different grey.

But yeah, who's worried anyway? So yeah, that was a, that was a

fun little trip. I bought during the week a

Triton dual cab Ute or I picked it up.

I think I bought it last Wednesday.

So that was the year after the podcast.

So it's a dual cab, 07 manual 4 wheel drive with the big banger 3.2 Pajero motor in it, which is the good one to have, Not those

two point fours and two point fives.

So you know, like always, it's a bit of a lottery.

I went to pick it up on Thursday lunchtime and you know, it looked clean enough and need to Polish and whatever the interior is very good. And I was driving it out of

there and it's like going through the driveline and I went, yeah, something's not happy.

But then I thought, no, it's not division, it's not gearbox.

That all feels really good. It's it's something in the drive

shaft. And then I started Googling when

I got home and they're a two piece drive shaft with a instead of bearing and a rubber like a donut thing.

And they're all like, Yep, Triton Classic that that'll need replacing. They're not expensive.

And I went out and crawled under it on the weekend and sure enough, that rubber thing's destroyed.

So it's the Dr shafts aren't talking to each other as well as they should. Yeah.

But other than that motorbox clutch air con cold, you know it's done 332,000 I think, but it's it's strong as an ox.

It feels fantastic to drive and the no smoke or anything it's it's actually quieter than my pedge.

I reckon with less case, but so yeah, that will scrub up quite nicely. And I'm thinking that will be

bought probably by an old person from the country who knows what it is with that motor. Or maybe like a 20 year old

tradie who wants to go full driving on the cheap.

Because you know, those things are sub 10 grand.

You know, not they they get quite a lot of utility for for not a lot of money anyway, so that's my latest buy.

Still got the Murky class, still got the.

What? What year is this trend?

07 that is. So it's the first shape that had

the sort of swoopy doors, you know, that new generation Triton sort of thing. And is it a order?

And the series is ML, it's manual.

Minus somebody interested will say.

Yeah, so I'll book that in in the next.

I've had a looked at for roadworthy.

It needs a couple of things. Nothing crazy like front link

pins, couple of tie rod ends, I think the front left wheel bearing they said on that drive shaft thing I mentioned.

Of course, other than that, pretty good.

Like, you know, it wasn't wasn't an insane list.

And I just thought if you, if you were really on the skin, you know, and you just, you needed a full drive and a Citi car, you could have my Swift and you could have that Triton, you know, and you could spend like combined value of sort of like 10K. Edward Bouncing, the one stop

shop for cars. We got everything.

You know, in tough economic times, like if things really went bad for you, you could or you would just spend money.

You could just, you could just have those two cars and you really couldn't go too wrong. You know, 10K for the pairs.

That's that's a that's. Not a bad garage.

What a bit of just buying a Vitara that does everything.

That's a good point. Tara, I mean, it's not as you

can't tow as much with that as the U Yeah.

And it doesn't have a thing on the back, you know, you can't put stuff in it like a U, Yeah. OK.

Is this $10,000 drive away no more to pay?

Is that is. That, yeah.

I mean, look, I think the Triton is probably more like 8 1/2, you know? And the Swift is probably more

like 4, so maybe call it 12. 12 now maybe?

Maybe, maybe that's, you know, something like that.

You know, multiplied multi by discount or something.

Or maybe I'll. Maybe. 2 for one.

Maybe 20 grand and you get the E.

Class as well the. Ute car, the City car, The

prestige car. That's it.

And you be stupid not to make that decision for the mic for one car. Think about it, you could have.

Three that one for the. Kids so the Swift can be for the

kid and your dad Drive mute. Mum's got the E lovely.

Yeah. Yeah, it's a family pack.

Nothing else crazy to report in the world of cars, I don't think. David Prince updates with you.

I had AI actually found something of use in the gearbox in the the in the car club gearbox, which is really good.

There's been a muffler kicking around there for years and years and years and years. And I thought, wow, we had a big

Chuck out. In the back of my mind, I

thought that was one of the things that went out because it's been there for ages and no one wanted it.

The so the Civic Grand Prix edition has got a body kit on it that was part of the the standard equipment at the time.

And all those sort of third Gen Civics actually had a twin pipe muffler coming out the back bumper bar somewhere along the line. Mine's been replaced with a

single pipe muffler offset, so it never looked right.

So it bugged me every time I looked at the back of that car and then a little light bulb went off in my head because it was in having the brakes readjusted.

And I said to the guy, can you source a muffler for one of these? And he's kicking around.

He used to be an exhaust guy. He said no, I don't think I'll

find anything for that. I thought hold that, hold the

phone. And I was down that way, grabbed

it and it's now on the Grand Prix Civic.

So it only took about 6 years to to get in my head to do so.

That's good. I've got to pick that up

tomorrow night. That's all done bargain, bargain

price. Very good man at Burwood.

He used to be he'd be a Berkeley exhaust place and he's very clue with the old exhaust systems. What else?

I was also in the Dandenongs on the weekend, Edward.

I could have could have flashed my I would have flashed my lights at you had I seen you in a in the track yellow car, but I was actually in my mother in law's cerulean blue jazz giving out a bit of a out a. Bit of a run a.

Bit of a pump through the mountains, yes.

I always pictured that car as yellow.

I don't know why I've always pictured that jazz as yellow, but now I didn't realise it was blue.

Ah, yeah, yeah, a cerulean blue. Yep.

Great little car it was. It's such a sweet little car.

It's done about 120,000 KS I think, so quite low.

It's an O eight, I think, O seven O 8.

But yeah, it doesn't get a lot of use, but, but it's been a great reliable little car for it.

And Saturday the club had a run to the Fox Museum in Docklands to see Lindsay Fox's collection of cars, which is pretty crazy.

You'd have to say the man has a very interesting collection of cars and so many of them just had such great provenance.

What was your favourite? Of the cars there, there was a

lovely gold pagoda. I did think of you, Edward, one

of his pagodas. Of course, there's a couple of

gold wings there. He had a lovely, actually, I've

never been a huge Healy fan, but he had a beautiful white and blue 100 S Healy with Jack Brabham and Sterling Moss's autograph in texter on the dashboard.

Wow. They're both driven that car.

So that's the sort of provenance.

He also had a Mercedes, a 1937, I think it was a 36 or 37.

So just prior to the Second World War, right hand drive Mercedes SSKI think it was called.

Yeah, 5500 SSKI think that's. The one built for the German.

The consulate in the UK only right hand drive one in the world. Wow.

And is has been valued at $12 million.

Oh my God. Decent.

The thing was nuts. Just extraordinary.

The detail and the the craftsmanship in the car was just just amazing. So there were a lot of nice

cars, a lot of a lot of Porsches.

Now someone else commented that he hadn't been into Porsches as much. It was all Ferrari, you know, a

lot of Ferraris. He does have an Enzo in there,

which I think I remember hearing at the time absolutely outraged a lot of the purists because it's Rosso Corso, obviously the bright green colour, but he had the roof painted yellow like like his Lynn Fox trucks. Yeah, that's cool.

Just to just to make sure everybody knew who, who's and that that was on display. That was pretty crazy.

But he's also got things like he had a white LFA, Lexus LFA.

I sent a photo to Matthew, just like the one you carried around in a huge box all of Japan. The he's got my car but in full

scale. That's right, that's right.

The real thing. Just keep adding water to yours.

You'll see it'll. It'll grow.

But no, that was, that was a good outing.

I mean, I, I went probably 25 years ago and fabulous building though. Beautiful, beautiful,

beautifully arranged and beautifully curated.

He does have 3 hangers of cars at Essendon Airport.

So they do alternate a rhythm around a bit, twist them around things like he's got one of those AMG ones as well.

But that's not that. That's wasn't on display while

we were there. So imagine having that car and

and that's not a prime on prime display, you know, on display.

But so no, that was a good day. That was a good day.

What else? Oh, the the Magna Waggon has

safely ensconced in Horsham and there's a list of little, well, you know, all maintenance sort of things that are going to be done to that in preparation for Magna 40 coming up in October.

Yeah. So I think that's about it for

Rob, a pleasure with you. Got the Mustang detail by a

professional detailer. How's that?

The first time I've ever paid someone to detail my car.

Was it good or bad? It's better than what I could

have done, but I would have expected better from a professional detailer. How's that?

Wow. OK, yeah, I still saw found some

swirl marks where it's in the he's cleaned it up real well.

He's removed a lot of swirl marks.

But when you go to the door and you see the top of the the roof line, you can still see some swirl marks certain daylight.

So. What colour is that car?

It's a grabber blue. OK.

Yeah, so. But apart from that, it's

beautiful. It's great having a fresh car.

It's all clean. It's actually as far as I'm

concerned, it's probably better than what it was delivered from the factory. Yeah.

Detailed. You know, I suppose anything can

be better than after it's been detailed by Ford A.

Ford, Yeah. Delivered by Ford, so got that

so and now you can see as soon as you step in the car, your carpets just get dirty so quick. So now you've got to tap it

straight away and that sort of stuff.

But it's all right. I I can put up with that.

So they've got the car detailed and it's still enjoying the car worked a lot on the SEC over the weekend.

The the 380, the painter wants to pull it down to a point where he's going to spray the doors, the bonnet and and boot and all that on on the racks. Flap.

Rather than on the car. So we've pulled the torto car

down, pretty much everything bar the two doors.

And I don't know how I'm going to do the doors.

So I don't want to. I'm dreading and I don't think

I'm going to do it. I'm not going to let him do it

because there's too many vacuum hoses and and electricals going through those big doors to start trying to tear all that out without breaking one of those vacuum hoses or something.

So we're going to have to find another way of doing it.

The doors, he's going to have to do it on in situ on the car somehow. I'll take as many rubbers.

I've taken the door trim off and tackling all the trim around it off, pulled all the seats out because he's going to get the seats 3 trimmed. So yeah, the car's getting to a

point where it's actually getting work done to it, which is. Good.

You know, I've been pushing him and pushing him, but he's established enough now, he's got his throw roof set up enough now his work's settled. So now I could start

concentrating on my car, which is good.

So that does SCC. Not going into too much detail.

I had a lot of hassles with Victoria Pol over the weekend of a car that's got that was stolen and ended up on my dad's premises legally and I was getting phone calls from Anne hassled. I couldn't believe how many

phone calls so I got from a Victoria pole over a a a 5-6 hour period. I I spoke to three different

police stations trying to get to the bottom of it and whatnot.

And what I found was as cut a Long story short, my niece's ex partner's car was left at me dad's place and he reported it stolen once we moved it out of his driveway.

And he knew that because we told him.

Oh right, so so the car wasn't stolen and it was just reported as stolen. Yeah, so I had to go through a

lot of explaining to the police In what?

Occurred. So, yeah, so busy weekend, quite

a stressful weekend. Being accused of stealing a car,

Yeah, you know. But yeah, but the place the

Torquay police are better than I suppose the sunshine, better than the Sunshine police or the Epping police that I've spoken to, because I spoke to different police stations right throughout because it's involved in different people in different places. And so at at the end of the end

of the day, it was more of a civil matter, you know, with where the keys were and, and who's going to get the keys and how they're going to hand over the car and everything else because we thought it was going to be left there when they split up. Cut a Long story short, my dad

needed to do some work around the house.

The car got moved and yeah, so he wasn't where it was.

Thought to be. We didn't ask where it was, he

just reported the police as stolen.

Yeah. Yeah, so idiot.

So yeah, be careful when moving cars.

Make sure, yeah. So so we can add this to yours

jobs. Rob's car theft.

Yeah, so it's been a busy week at school, but I did go out to the Skyline and I just tried to get the AM radio part of the radio working. And would you believe there's

only three AM presets, but 5 FM presets?

And I thought to myself, well, why would I only have 3:00 AM?

So I spent an hour trying to work that out and yeah, they still didn't work, so I just left that.

How's that that? Was pretty good.

That was pretty good it. Was like he was in the room.

It was like he was right there with us.

I'm never not going to be on this podcast again.

For some unforeseen reasons, I had to take the D Max for its recall appointment instead of my old man.

SO I snuck out of work, dropped it off, got somebody from work to pick me up, you know you use my lunch break all day.

Got the car back a couple hours later with a little bit of paperwork indicating what had been done.

There were a couple of field campaigns on it to my surprise, so one was obviously the little field pipe connecting with the dipstick hose. They allegedly fixed that if it

need to be fixed, reflashing the ECU.

They asked if I had my own custom tune on it and I was like, no, yeah, this guy's very clearly stuck.

I wouldn't be coming back for, you know.

No, they want you to say yes so they can void your warranty.

Yeah, most likely. And the third one was uneven

tyre wear and it said vehicle not eligible.

So I asked the question. I said, hey, what's going on?

Why am I not eligible? They're like, well, you got new

tyres. I said no shit, I got new tyres.

I'm like tyres I don't even really want.

I need the new tyres. So I said I want more

information about this because you can't just say feel cool, not eligible for, you know, campaign and then send me on my way that clearly, you know, I don't need some, you know, I want a fair go. So I had they were a bit busy.

They said they'd get the head service advisor or whatever to call me back. And so I was on the way home

from work, got a call back from I forgot the lady's name at Isuzu Essendon and she said. I think I feel like it'd be

Diane. Diane sounds like a lady that'll

be calling you back from, from like, yeah.

Let's find it. I might have it somewhere here

in my messages. Let's.

I'm gonna go with Michelle. Michelle Oh, that's a good one.

Yeah. So basically called me kind of

discussed the, the whole recall thing and I said look, my tyres were unevenly worn, the front ones basically the wires were sticking out. So I had to go get new tyres.

So she said, well, to get Isuzu Australia involved, I have to provide them with one, the proof of purchase of the tyres which I have that's fine. The alignment sheet from when

the new tyres were put on. But most importantly, I don't

know how important it is. Photos of the old tyres, which

is what I don't have. That's.

Insane. That's true.

That's the part where I think, I don't know, that's if that's the hell they're going to die on, I'm going to at least provide them with the rest of the information and see kind of where it falls because basically I'll take the word for that.

They're not going to complete the field campaign.

If you know, I don't have the proof of the other tyres being worn, but it'll happen to these tyres too.

How many A's on that car? I think it's just under 40,000.

Yeah, right. And the tyres were to bear wise

on the inside by 35,000 KS. I think that's a plan.

Wow. Yeah.

And if that's SUV tie, they last longer than that.

Yeah, yeah. So I, I'm yet to get all my

little paperwork together and send it through to Isuzu.

I'll send it through the dealership and they'll send it to Isuzu for me. I'm sure the dealership will go

into that for me. But if they come back and say

you need photos of the ties and I'm like, which I don't have, the ties have gone there and dumped me and like what I want to do, I'll just say, look, that's fine.

But when these tyres were in the same way, I will file a Victorian consumer affairs complaint against you and then request money for the old tyres and the new tyres because I will like I'll, I'll bite the I'll take the hit on the actual tyres as long as they then do whatever they need to do repair wise to make sure it doesn't happen again.

But if they put the repair contention on me having proof of the tyres being worn out legally, which I can't provide, at that point I'm like right, well where I'm at again, it'll happen in another 35,000 KS, I don't care.

But then we're going on this merry go round properly.

You know, then you get John Kodaga involved.

Yeah, current affair. I'll be like I just want a fair

go 2 sets of ties in 70,000 case.

of this is like, is there no fix for the uneven wear?

Is it just an inherent issue with the car that they can't?

Fix. So what I suspect is this is

we're in the well, there's already a semi recall for it, right? There is some kind of fix

relating to the steering front steering system, but it's probably expensive to the point where they only want to do it if they really, really have to have to.

Yeah, whereas a lot of people, especially if you've got your bull bars and everything else and Isuzu is turning away anyway because they're like, well, we never authorised this modification, those people, yeah.

at the Isuzu dealership. I think it's about 5000 KS out

of warranty or something and the fuel pump grenaded itself, which caused downstream damage. Damage.

man, we're not covering that area, which which again if you go through that's crazy, your consumer advocates you've.

about it a while back, but like my sister's Hyundai I30 was making horrible noises and you know, not not happy always service to Hyundai, but well out of warranty, you know, like it's a 2018, I think and what that's what 5-7 years old, so out of warranty, but I think it was a five year warranty on it.

But they were fantastic. Took it to city Hyundai.

They were like, well, you've done everything right.

You've serviced it at Hyundai the whole time.

There's a known batch of of engines, rooted engines that have ring wear and boss piston slap and all that sort of thing.

So it was a whole new bottom end.

And my brother in So I rang the guy and he was very good and he complained it all and, and I said great.

And I and I was, I was like, they've done everything right.

Like, yeah, you know, there was you, you couldn't have been happier with it. And two weeks later the car was

back, brand new engine. I said, you'll just have to ring

Vicroads and give them the new block number, new engine number, which the the dealer had highlighted, you know, on the paperwork. This this is your new engine

number. I was like, well basically you

got a brand new engine even though you've done 80,000 K and and you know, no whinging from the manufacturer, unheard of.

Yeah, pretty good. Pretty good.

Pretty good. The other bad thing with that

was I drove it at Christmas. It feels a bit down on power.

It's making a bit of a noise. And I, I gave it a good clean at

Christmas time and took it out for a Fang to to see what he's talking about. And I brought it back, said no,

it's fine, nothing wrong with that.

As it turned out, there was something wrong with that.

But I need to go. Why could I suzu in?

I'll get through it really quickly because there's only one car kind of it updates on was the Forester.

Now Stephanie had family coming from Adelaide and and she's like, look, I want to put the the shocks had had it like they were they were they were done. She's like, can we please just

get the shocks done before they get out?

I'm like yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I put it off long enough and

then I had to have it done. So then I, I got a set of Pettas

shocks and springs for it, which I got second hand with only 30,000 K on them. And I and Chad, I enlisted the

help of 1 Chad de Bell and he was like, yeah man, I'm coming to help. You know, Steph made him dinner

and that was that was, you know, it was, I think you enjoyed dinner. Was it Chad that?

Was really good. Yeah, it was delicious.

So Chad and I were working away on putting the suspension in the car. And as soon as we had put it in

that that quite literally the last, the last strut in, we looked underneath the car and there's just a puddle of of fluid everywhere. And I'm just like, Oh no, this

is. That's not from the shocks.

No, well, it was so on the front driver's side when, when we, you know, moved the hub out of the way to put the strut in, it's kind of pulled out the, the, the drive shaft and we and we hadn't realised that it's pulled it out and it's just pissed out all it's fluid. None of us saw it.

We we both didn't see it. It wasn't leaking until we, you

know, started on the front right and then we worked all the way around and then we ended up in the front left and then looking after that. And also the car was, you know,

tipped over to the other side as well.

So it was just, it was just leaking all of it out.

So I. Was about to say Chad, I'll buy

you dinner, come and help me do the front end of the Wasp, but now? Now look, I always said I'm glad

no one pays me to work on their cars.

Yeah, I can't provide a warranty.

Well, Chad, we did a good job like so I was OK and to get to that point, I'll explain in a second.

But like we I'm like, Oh no, this, this cannot be happening.

Like the car needs to be done for tomorrow.

This is they were coming on the Thursday.

This is Wednesday night. I'm, you know, freaking out.

I'm like, oh, man, this is, it's that's it, you know, it's all over. You know, I'm not going to get

it done. I kind of crawl in and stuff's

like, how'd you go with the car? And I'm like, yeah, yeah, about

that. And she's like, no, like she's

like this needed to happen. I'm like, I know I will sort

something out, don't worry. So I call.

The issue is the issue is if they got two kids, baby chairs, a whole bunch of whole boot load of luggage, whole family, whole family and bit small for the layers like like it'll, it'll work, but it it'll be it'll be a tight fit.

So I'll make a call to Sebastian at Goodyear and I'm like, hey, this is what's happened. He's like, just bring the car,

get it towed in and I'll I'll have it done by the end of the day. Anyway, I got to pick it up.

And so, so anyway, I'm like, what time will it be done?

He's like going to be done about 5:00.

I'm like, I got to pick them up from the airport at 4:00.

So I had to, I had to go to my to my mom's place, pick up the XR8 because it's a full size sedan, go pick them up from the airport and then and XR8, you know, plenty of space fit everything in there. Drove quite literally drove that

to, to, to the mechanic. I'm like, we got to stop before

I drove you guys to the hotel pick.

Up your hire car. To pick up the hire car

essentially. And, you know, Sebastian was

like, the only issue was you just moved it out.

Not yeah. And you didn't.

And he's like, it's very easy to do because, like, you don't really, you know, you couldn't tell at time.

So he popped it in, refilled it with fluid, and we got it back and crisis averted. But that was a bit of a like,

oh, man. Like Steph asked me to do one

job and I couldn't even. I couldn't even finish the job

though. Like, it's quite, you know,

redoing the suspension is quite a big job.

Well, it was just. Yeah.

Just not like change the wiper blades that's it's quite serious mechanical work. How do you?

Like it's, I mean, it's, it's on a lowered Pettis shock and a Pettis spring. So like it's their lowered

package. So it's a little bit higher than

I was with the coilovers, but it just it rides beautifully now.

It just swaffed over everything and Steph's like, Oh my God, why didn't we do this sooner? Our.

Forest meant to ride. Our forest meant to ride.

Yeah, and we soon found out why I was riding so bad, didn't we, Chad? There was quite literally no

bump stops. Left.

Yeah, yeah, all the bump stops and the pillow ball mounts on the on the top hats were just shagged like it was nothing left basically. So yeah, so Stephanie's very,

very, very happy with the car. And I'm like, it's good.

Crisis averted. Yeah.

You know, I could breathe easy. I was, I was having a very

stressful day Thursday. I'm like, I'm like, it's just

not going to get done. Like there's they're not going

to be able to fix it in time. But the XRI came to the rescue

and then the foresters all good. Happy days with happy forest

during as as I would say. I've shaft popped back in

Maddie. Is it like something that just

like if it pops out, surely popped back in easy enough too?

Well, we tried, didn't we Chad? Like we took, we took the wheel

off and it just would not budget.

Like we're trying to push the whole strut assembly back in.

I couldn't do it like what is going on?

So they had to. They had to loosen everything

and then realise it. Yeah, I think it was a matter of

you had to disassemble basically everything away from the hub so that you could push it back in. But this was midnight, like this

was midnight on the Wednesday. By the time we realised we we'd

really stuffed it and we just couldn't do it like we could we, we would have had to been there another couple of hours and having to use power tools at not that time as well.

So it just wasn't doable. So yeah, we just, but yeah,

it's, it's one of those weird things where when you took all the suspension out of the front, all that's really holding is the drive shaft. And, and because the hub is so

heavy, it's like it's as soon as it like falls away from the car, it's just pulls the driveway out the drive shaft out.

So it was, I mean, we've just learned something basically on Foresters Don't, don't let the hub flop around and pull the drive shaft down South. So Car Talk, top tips, support

your hubs, support your hubs. Yeah, absolutely.

I think we've learned. I think we learned that the hard

is gentlemen cars that were sales success and then faded failed well faded into an existence like that that now just just went off and you know that was so good and then all of a sudden was so bad. Well, not bad, but like just

disappeared disappeared irrelevant and I got thinking about this topic because I was driving behind an accord euro the other day and I'm like they sold buckets as a first Gen euro they sold bucket loads of them like they couldn't they couldn't tell them enough. I don't think David I think it

was probably it was Honda's most like sale time in in Australia at that. Point.

I think that from, from my research for this, the second Gen was a still a good car. Didn't sell it as well.

I didn't think it was as good looking as the, the first guy's a very handsome car. And I think the first guy's aged

better. But then they didn't do a year

after that. And now they sell one accord a

year. I'm in Australia.

So, you know, it got me thinking, I'm like, what happened to all these, these great, you know, these great cars that had just, you know, they were, they were selling safely with a liberty after, after the Gen 4 liberty, which is a beautifully handsome, handsomely stolen car.

They had the that kind of fatter, you know, bigger liberty. They even did an Xesia version

of it. And then that the liberty was a

shadow of itself. Like there were so many cars

that, you know, that were really good and really popular.

And all of a sudden, so it's like it's like a light switch went off and they just kind of faded off into existence.

I wanted to get your opinion on which cars have has that happened too? And why do you think it's

happened to those specific cars? So we'll start with the euro

anyway. The second Gen euro was still

something quite well I think David when when they pulled the pin, did they give an exact reason as to why they pulled the pin on the on the on the euro? As I understand, they, because

that was sourced from Japan, they stopped making them number one. Yeah, they continued with a, a

refreshed model into the, I think it was, I think the Euro won Car of the year in about 2009, I think.

Yep. About that.

So that would have gone through for four years.

So, yeah, yeah, early, early 20 teens, they went to a larger car again. And I, I think, I think there'll

be a lot of these, these cars. It's just the inevitable creep

in size. I think of the cars, I mean, the

Civic really filled the space. Well, the current Civics are

bigger than the the first Gen EUR.

I mean, they're, they're much bigger cars.

So it's just that the every generation you look at Corolla, where Corollas have gone from the first car through to the, the current shape, they've done the same thing.

But the, I think the main reason is the size.

There was a whole thing. Australia was the only market

that we had both Accords, the American or the Thai built one, which was for America and the, and the Japanese built one.

That's why it was called Euro because it was considered more of a driver's car in the first shape.

And then the quite unkindly, I think they referred to the American design one as the home accord in a in a in not a very unobscure Simpsons reference. Was there a price point issue?

Like was there price creep with those model changes where it got to a point where while you're going to go for a car that's more competitive, a bit smaller, a bit cheaper, like it's it's a better value for what it is and it's in a similar.

Yeah, well, I, I think you're right.

A case in point, in 2008 we bought a, a new, we were looking, we were looking at updating, getting out of Odysseys. Our kids had licences, so we

didn't need need a A7 seater anymore.

And we were looking at a Euro. But we actually bought a Civic

Sport, which basically had an FD Civic sport sedan.

So it was the still the Thai built car, but it it had a lot more safety gear than the the lowest spec cars and as much room inside as as the as the CL 9.

I call it the first Gen Euro and it was cheaper.

So yeah, we thought, well, there's not a lot of point in in buying the bigger car when the smaller car's got as much room inside and and does everything else.

So that's the reason why, well, OK, so in America they, they did sell the, the euro as the RSX, right, the the Acura RSX.

Acura, Sure. Yeah, sure.

Yeah, yeah, sure. Yeah.

So, so they're a market that had both, both vehicles.

Yeah, I mean batched as Honda. Honda.

Yeah, yeah. Yeah, so you had the Honda and

you had the the, yeah, the Acura.

But it's just a shame because like, it was I I remember them.

They were everywhere. And and they still are, but in a

lot of parts. You still, you still go to a car

park. They still around most of them.

Yeah, because they're they're. They're pretty under plus.

Like they're a very good thing. So that's no surprise that that

that they're still around. So that was the demise of the

euro. What are the cars were were

everywhere and like, you know, and then they, you know, superseded it and then it just kind of faded, faded away into existence. And for me, another one is the

Hyundai XL. Like they were everywhere.

They were Australia's best selling car at one point of time. And then they then they didn't

do an excel. They they went to an accent or

accent or however you want to say it.

And then it just wasn't it was just was never the same.

It was never the sales success as a as a 13990 no more and no more to pay drug way. I don't want to pay Hyundai

excel. You know, that that for me was

just like, why did they not offer another excel like that?

Just I mean, from all accounts, from my research was the the Excel was was essentially the the ascent.

That's what's what that's what it morphed into, but it just didn't have the same. Well, I, I, I don't know if that

was because of the name change, but it, it never had the same, you know, you know, pinache and, and kind of cutie factor and, and Oh yeah, it's a nugget car like like the bit.

Like the Exceldeer and Teter. Teter, yeah, for a long, long

time. And they always told, well, they

were, they were never probably the number one seller, but they were certainly a a strong runner up.

And then it went to Teter and just, you know.

I think changing that the name you know, mid rail or or mid generation is, is not a good thing.

I was going to say because, you know, pure the markers, the theatre was called the the Pulsar and that was going to be my next question to you guys. Do you think that the name

change affected it? So I say if if the if the accent

was going to be called the the Excel, do you reckon it would have still had the same? Oh yeah, it's it's an excel.

Just go by a new Excel. Like do you reckon it was to

carry that that kind of that kind of name plate, but it.

Would have helped, particularly when it was it was a very well liked name. It wasn't.

And when they when they updated it for the update, they, they put a conventional automatic back in it.

It was, it was too late. Like the people like, yeah,

we're not, we're not touching that with a 10 foot pole, despite the fact that they were half decent.

So that kind of really hurt the brand.

So that, that, that that's a, that's a, an example of the brand hurting, hurting itself in terms of, you know, the product being subpar and you know, now it's got a name of being a car you wouldn't want to touch. I remember a lady bought one.

She I used to work with her at Target years ago.

Her ex husband used to work for Ford and still got a Ford discount and she bought a KQ Laser brand new and only had 60,000 KS on it when she upgraded to the new Focus.

And within the first year you went back to get the clutches replaced and it was replaced like two or three times.

So she's like, I shouldn't have got rid of my old legs.

the time, you know, and she's like, I'd never buy another Ford again. She's like, the only reason I

did is because you got the discount and this and that.
