"fugitive, had a picture of a Jimny. That's been modified to look, like, a 79 series Land, Cruiser, which was jumping jiminy's. We have to be the cool. This new car there is I think, I mean, whenever you see one of those on the road while it catches your attention as well."
"tend to live long lives, most of them. So you do see a lot of old impreza's and even the old gum l-series wagons from the 90s Liberties and, you know, there's a lot of those still getting beating around, you know, just talking the other day, about first gen rav4's. I mean, something funny is happened to them and they have gone absolutely nuts. Price wise for a good one, but"

"into space Matthew? Matthew, that was the Tesla Roadster. Correct. Is it still up? There?"

Does professional idiot. Drive.
After hours. Northwest with the man, the
myth, The Legend who has returned from the Home Country, mr. Elom deep Singh, howdy happy to
be back, mr. David Prince, fresh from the
Honda. 50th anniversary on the Civic and Literally the golfing
Legend, they call him Tiger Woods, but the but we, but we know, we just know him as Scotty do.
It's gonna do Johnson. How are you?
I'm doing pretty well. Thank you very much, very good
to see all your lovely faces. I love you back.
Yes, I basically came back about three weeks ahead of schedule.
Like I said, to you earlier, cost me about extra fifteen hundred dollars on top of my ticket, but it was worth it because I think I'm finally cleared my stomach in this case scenario. So it's I mean, you've become to
Australian eyes to like Australian versions of Indian food. Is that what's happened here?
I think so because it's probably, it wasn't just the fact that I had to order there which was probably from a bad Source near for me. No good even even the food was
giving me a bit of a rough time. Just, and it's hard to cook
food. Hmm, I think spending 19 years
without visiting the motherland. You know, has made me into a, as
I say, a fair Dinkum Ozzy. Yeah, very Very good.
So what's your abiding? Memory of the visiting the Home
Country again? Run else is sitting on the
toilet. Okay unfortunately it's that I
thought to go again in a cooler climate so probably around November December, mmm. Probably you know if I do go
next year or this year but yeah I want to do the summer again all this really it was spring start of spring but yeah just not the way that for a guy like it humid up there.
Yeah, it is about 30 degrees which is much, but the extra humidity. The fact that there are you
losing about happy cars? Horsepower?
With the air conditioning on. That's what kind of style.
Yeah, a little Lu F difficult. Hmm, well, it's good to have you
back Elam. I am happy to be back and having
to be doing some car talk. Very good, very good to have you
back in the studio and we also joined by.
So, I'll give everybody an intro, but I don't know what we should Savor this person. What, what should we say about?
Edward bunting. He is the the, the man of many,
many voices, he loves a touring and is join us and nobody higher. Hello I do love a turing years.
We should get Julie here on the podcast one night.
We should we should I mean she's very busy but she looks she has had an array of mundane Australian vehicles.
She could probably you know Enlighten us all, you know, she did a lot of long Journeys to Canberra, ha ha ha.
And then like probably to Adelaide and Canberra, she can talk, you know, about the Comfort levels of those Australian cars was good to have you on the podcast, Julia little quick catch-up. David Prince will get started.
We just ran into you, because basically Honda Civic 50th Anniversary. Well, let's get into it.
We didn't we didn't talk about it.
Last week, we were tight lift, we wanted.
We want to do just the, the full run down, what happened?
How was it? Apparently, from all accounts.
It went off it. I think that's what the young
people say is, it went off. Yeah, it was the best thing.
The first thing, the weather was absolutely completely out of the box. It could not have been perfect,
but now we had a brilliant weekend.
We had ended up with 39 cars, down there, all different models and shapes. And from I'm really really ready
ones. Hello, Melissa Ong, if you're
listening through two brand-new, brand-new brand-new fo5, that hasn't been released yet. I think that stuff that's being
released this week, it was a great success with Vonda loaned us, six cars. I think in the end we had from
them, they drove three down and they track three down we had in all their original 70. Through of the plate, is sitting
70. Straight A 75-mile but don't
tell anybody because it looks as identical and we had a fk8 limited edition. The yellow one, we had a racing
blue fk8 your mum's favorite and we had no fell five, which was really good to have as so. That's one, two, three, four.
And then they also brought down the new heights, Civic Hybrid and the new Civic apps as well. So yeah, it was, it was
brilliant. The bully different number of
people, by social media to bring Bring their cars down to.
So we had a good mix of modified cars and we had standard cars.
We have one power that had been sitting in a barn for an indeterminate. We think about 20 years and was
recommissioned in the weeks, leading up to it, and put on Club plates on the Tuesday and drove down and drove home and drive around the track actually went back early on the Sunday morning and did a lap of the track before the event.
So that's legally, your you were allowed to do it.
If you're there, early enough and then End of the day, we had a great display inside. We actually won the best, best
car display a little plaque. There's some dispute as to the
ownership of that Clark under Australian have commandeered.
It, I did actually ask if it was awarded to the Honda car club, or hundred stray, Leah, I think, I think former with the winners on the day will say, that's right, we can be, we can share, but yeah, the end of the day we ended up Up on the main straight of the track that weather was just beautiful Shadows, were getting longer. Lovely.
Just a light Breeze off the water and some great shots.
Don't know if you've seen them on social media or not, but that was the end up with almost 40. Civics.
All different shapes and models, and everything.
It was quite a lot of fun. So yeah, yeah.
Very, very big event was exhausting and I think I did about 25 thousand steps that day.
Great. Great for the fitness level.
Yeah, I bet I hope it felt the same way he came along.
He actually borrowed a car from someone he'd sold 12 and mmm.
Yes, I borrowed the old 01 Civic?
Hatchback off. Someone had sold it to about six
months ago. Five months ago, I think and I
was at the entry gate. It's a white you know for door
hatch stop. The most exotic car will go on
the gate. I said, I don't think I have to
pay because I'm a display. A car.
Here's what this. This is a display car and I
said, yes, I have just go on home screen when he looks at the windscreen. And I said it's the 50th
anniversary of the Honda Civic and he just fine going.
You know that he was very put out that my district nursing.
I'll yeah. Civic hatch was a actual display
car. She's doing a gentleman if he's
listening yeah it's not better. I did feel sort of funny like we
had a great Fly rod Trek side, you know the sort of right at the entrance of the big shed and right next to us was the Tirana car club. Gee, you've got, you've got all
these traumas that are worth, you know, 130, 150 180, 220, you know, and then you've got Melissa wrongs beaten-up.
Honda Civic sedan. That's probably 500 bucks.
And you've got my hat, so it's probably five grand.
Yeah, it's right. Yep.
Yep. You faded spoilers and whatever
that. Hey, they're still Civics in
there. Still Here.
So we have just as much right to be here as anyone else.
Correct. And there are a couple of good
write-ups in the in the magazine that came out this week, the club magazine about it and the editor was saying that she was sitting at the the display and she said everyone that walk past had a story, you know, room. When that point to the original
near be one car and then sang way our, you know, I Learned to Drive in one of those that color or, you know, I mean, people related far more to them than a lot of cars there.
So, yeah, I think the The difference and I think it was a great event and a great celebration.
And I mean, as I think, I said we sort of pony have pigtailed onto it because the couple of people on our committee, you're actually on the vhr our committee as well.
So that's how we sort of made the connection to the event.
But yeah, it was I got a lot of really good messages from the people that weren't members that are God sort of in asked to come along and yeah they all have a great day.
A lot of people had just saw It was a Honda thing, you know?
And they turn up in there are thousands of cars and all these beautiful classic race cars and and the like they had no idea you were all that was on, you know I sort of talked up this Wonder of in so much but it was like you just didn't add it added bonus on the day Lori gracing event.
That's on every yeah biggest historic racing event in the southern hemisphere weekend and if you want a Civics aside, if anyone gets a chance to go to that event it is it is a remarkable event. To cross over the bridge, across
the track and walk through the pits.
I've never been to a race meeting that has sort of more if you like intimate access to the to the Pierce, you know, you literally they're doing all the work right, right where you are.
You know, you can watch everything going on.
It's brilliant. And that there are about a
dozen. Cars are coming from overseas
and number of old materials, and those sort of formula really Formula. One cars, the sounds and the
smells were just amazing as these things are Screaming full-tilt around the track and right in front of us.
It was Britain it was an original BMW M1 bike 70s and the sound of that going down the track was amazing down the street. You know it was a good event.
Good. Sorry, you couldn't make it.
I always like wandering around the car park there as well, because people tend to drink interests of things in the car park because they're all carries and so yeah you wander out in the car park and went out when everyone else is like the track.
I was just sort of sniffing around the back blocks in The Paddock looking at various bits and pieces.
People have driven them which was good to me was a little rangers in Hilux has most likely know there was a bit of that, you know, they were there was an Amex for a couple of minutes fires. It was a Combi, van Matthew for
you, good Fiat. I think I saw there was a Humber
and not a human Hunter that was quite original, you know.
And there's all sorts of little trinkets hidden amongst the arranges know to say something David real quick.
You know, as you know, my mother's in Interested in the new Civic. She you know she wants it in
that color that that the racing blue I want to the Honda's website and rigid my interest obviously and then basically looked on their color squat, they don't have the blue available for Australia. They don't what like the word
color hotter whether you're after and they won't have got the gray, they've got the white, they've got the Reds, I think they got the black as well, I think.
They don't have black but black white red Sonic.
Great really great. I think there is a blue but I
think it's the dark blue. The dark only thing, it was just
those four colors and I'm like yeah.
And I'm like, that is like what's that?
I was watching a review today about it and they put it up against an RS 3 and because if you know system or money in some parts of the world not here, And it was in that blue and I'm like it looks good enough, but that's the color you'd get it in and then all of a sudden I'm like, you can't get that blue in Australia. What are you doing under there?
Yeah, that's a monkey. You say that probably would do
with that color. What they did with the other
color, I mean they don't have to sort of attract people to buy them. I was talking about make that
has already one who actually works at a honk dealer and I was about a week before the event. I said, I saw Wendy Wendy get
yours. He said our much 24.
I said, oh, that's great about three weeks.
He said no March 20 24. So he's still here are from
getting he's so yeah, yeah, they don't have to actually, you won't be seeking heads on the TV for them.
They're not, it's not as if they're going to have to sell them. Sell them.
They were gone. So, and and it can and a brand
new effort, 5ms cheaper than a lot of people are asking for a 12-month do with in two-year-old fk8.
So correct, especially that blue, you know, they're, they're up high 70s. You know, most of those homes.
Yep. Nothing at all.
Like, what? We're going to look at a new one
and then they blew. I'm like, what?
I broke my heart but only came out for the, I think to the 2021 model year. Yeah, so they'll probably do
that again, know that, that's how I differentiate some of the models. See Sonic gray.
Got dropped. I think in the that didn't stop
in Tequila World. Although, that was, I think that
was a brilliant color on them as well.
But, yeah. And then they, Yellow limited
edition obviously. That's one way of
differentiating the measly sort of thing.
But yeah, especially when I'm the markets, get the blue.
Yeah. It's just like, Father Marcus.
Get the blue then why can't we get the blade for me?
That's just, that's just ridiculous.
Like, it's a color you offering why not offer it to the whole world like I don't I just do not get car companies when they do stuff like that when it's already available but that's just yeah, I just car companies poison.
But anyway, David drop dates before we move on to Scotty Whoa, am I update? I got to drive a little bit of
everything this weekend, which was great.
I got everything out and gave it a bit of a bit of a, whirl been driving the Integra quite a bit, which is great that's about to go into storage again. Because I've found it's actually
big for my current collection in the garage and takes up too much space. And once it's tucked away in
under, its cover, in my garage is absolutely no room to do anything else in the garage that makes bit tricky the city.
Is still at the mechanics. That's the guy that's working
on. Early works, three days a week
and if they get busy with other stuff, it's sort of something he's doing. I've said all along, oh, there's
no hurry. So it's like when people say to
me, there's no hurry and give me stuff to do.
It ends up under a pile of other stuff that needs to get done.
So it's still there. But at least have some apps on
it. So that's fine.
Actually. Today I had a good look at a
really cool card. I'm sorry, this isn't on it.
Actually because it was an electric car, the I was gonna zag armies and they've got the 500 e-mini in there.
So the new fully electric 500, our friend Damon from sagami, who actually converted his current shape 502, a 2 or for electric cars. The only right-hand-drive one in
the world because he sort of the drivetrains.
He was very excited to show me. Totally totally different floor
pan obviously, being an electric car Also, it's bigger in every Dimension to to the current 500, so but it still looks the same and it was really, really impressive about 55,000, but I think the cool thing about it, took me a while.
Is that it, it looks like Fair 500.
It doesn't look like an electric electric car.
Now look, I mean, they seemed a lot of them seem to have a look about them, which is quite different.
But I think I think feed five hundreds are cool with that retro thing going on anyway, but the fact that this one is still And actually Damon pointed out a lot of little little tweaks that are even more retro than sort of the current shape 500, the change, the font of the lettering and stuff to an even older incantation than what carries.
And yeah, I think I think they'll do pretty well with them because they don't, I don't, as I said they don't look like something that's sort of, as way out of such as some of the stuff that we're seeing in electric gun space.
Yeah, absolutely. Isn't it?
Yeah, I think that's my updates. I still have the Civic wagon,
actually, the Civic wagon did make it to the 50th anniversary, and it did have a for sale sign on the bottom of some day.
But it was Ben bit cantankerous on the, on the Saturday afternoon. And two, guys there that are
both got early Civics stuck, their head under the Bonnet, may take it away and they push this in part of it that and got it starting a lot better. But they're both giving me after
the event of one's offered to rebuild the car before me and one's giving me a really good. Good couple of hints to look for
things with the distributor. I think I mentioned that the
distributor was a couple of teeth out.
That's why I wasn't starting well.
But this guy Rick, it's adjusted now fully 211 sort of one sort of extreme of adjustment, so he thinks it still might be one out and he said if you if we just fine, tune it a bit more.
He said I think things will be even better and the other fellow Adrian who's got two beautiful early cars.
He's ordered me, a rebuild. How do you rebuild kit from the
states? Which arrived today?
So awesome. And that's in the garage and it
will far either get rid of it. Actually, who was running better
than it is. So, who knows?
I might even keep it what a surprise.
What surprise? I like it.
David Scotty. Same as last week.
I haven't really touched them. They just being used as tools to
grab things from one home and bring them to the the new house that's it. Which house is this?
That you're in? Now this is a new one.
I'm not talking to study or anything yet.
This is just two. Main gear is nice but everywhere
obviously. But that's one part of the
house. Lovely.
Lovely, Barry. Eunos very good.
Scotty. Edward hello, corrupt dates.
Correct dates. Not a whole lot.
Driving, the Mazda, MX-5 at the moment.
Because why have I driving that? Aah because I had dinner with a
friend. An old school friend on Saturday
night and his son is about eight years old and he's in my friend, used to Owned and the limited edition green.
MX-5 with the tan leather, some years back before his son was born and so he knows about it and he's got the model of it like dad's old car. Anyway, these bit obsessed with
mx-5s and So my friend said I if in the no pressure but you know if possible bring the MX-5 because you know my son won't shut up about them and so so I said yeah that's possible.
I reckon you got to encourage to you know, younger generations to to like cars and so I grabbed it during the week and been driving around in it and took up to my brother's up country on Saturday. It's an ideal country Torah that
Cur. Yeah, I joke.
But you know it's fine like well yeah, it's a car.
So I am near took around and he went for a ride with the roof off and, you know, press the button that makes the lights go up and down and you know, they liked all that stuff.
So and I sent my friend of text the next day saying ah, yeah, thanks for dinner, was good to catch up, blah blah, and and he said, oh thanks so much for being that car, you know, Zack is just obsessed with it. I was like, well, that's good.
He might grow up and preserve another, MX-5 somewhere along the way. What else?
What else? Nothing, I don't think.
I think it's just been that haven't Bought anything haven't something to me. Well, I did sell something, but
I've sort of unsold that there's more to that story.
I'll fill you in after the show on that.
So yes, I did sell a Volkswagen multiband, as I thought I would, you know, first to see will bikes, it's very clean clean car but there's a potential repair that needs doing on it, that I wasn't aware of and I discovered it.
And I rang the people who bought it was lovely and I just, I thought I can't hand this to you knowing that it might need a repair. So more investigation is
required, but I sort of said, look, you know, I'm gonna have to put paws on it. I'm not comfortable with you
driving away and bringing me into months and you going, you know, this needs to know. I've yeah, I thought, you know,
you have to have to do the right thing in those situations and yes, I put balls on that. So I So I've unsold the
Volkswagen, we will see where that goes.
Is that just Volkswagen doing Volkswagen things by breaking or pretty? It's not it's not broken per se
but pretty much yes pretty much. Yeah I'm loaning it to a friend
next week to do an extended driver and David knows our friend. Oh he's been on the show our
friend Roland so he's going to do an extended drive in it next week and just monitor the situation and then we'll go from there, right? As I start with head and ending,
Skip I don't think so because it's not getting hot or anything but yeah, watch this space on that car.
I was. Yeah, just like yeah, okay,
Volkswagen doing, Volkswagen things.
Yeah, yeah, I should have known better mr.
Allen, since you've been back, he's driven any of your vehicle's, really not, it's really quite sad.
I've just been moving around the D-Max.
First of all, I'd kick my sister and brother-in-law out of my house. They were adamant that they
didn't want to be there while we were overseas.
But as soon as I arrived, they, I was told owner, it'll take us too much time to move so maybe we'll move in a couple weeks.
I said, no, they let you move. I'll help you move got a team
axe. I kind of Drew the line.
When I had seen that one state of the bathroom, to the fact that the dining table has now become just a station for Laptops and like laundry and every other thing under the sun.
Despite the fact that, you know, for me, the don't have Wills a place to eat. Yeah, you don't do anything else
but he on the don't have. I'm sorry.
And the fact that I had to, I had to eat on the the breakfast bar, who knows unheard of and uh just so you know, I've got these big thighs you see and the chairs of a spa.
I just a little too high because they're from an old breakfast bar and so with those get stuck and it's uncomfortable.
But let's get started. Having sex, all reasons, or even
the dinette was purchased was to get this seat taken away my one refuse to eat, you know. And that was those were I just
wanted to get out. Thankfully, they were kind of to
move out within a couple days and I've got the place to myself just as well like it. Nice and peaceful.
And I still haven't yet. I'm kind of just like I saw in
fact, unpacked my suitcase. Lee.
It's just been trying to get myself back to normal.
So the DMX has been the most Easy Rider just hop in and drive off him. And that's why I've been driving
it around, but I'll probably need to charge up the battery.
The MX-5 I'm sure they've killed it as they usually do.
When I leave them in charge of it.
The the STI thankfully, I had the battery fully charged portal for a service anyway so I should be fine I'll probably end up filling up the Falcon with some gas and then if we go, the truck Depot and start up the truck just to keep its batteries coming. Some convert.
The Falcon has the Falcon of this doing just fine.
I did start it up once when they were initially came back, they stole the D-Max on me. Sir, I didn't like the color.
Yeah, that just needs a bit of gas and you could be on its way.
Probably just fine still waiting for mr.
Bunting to make its purchase. Yeah I'm getting closer to that.
I think I'm going to close to do to be ready to sell it as well.
Nothing nothing beats an eager sulking.
I would agree with that actually I update with me so the new laser it's when for its roadworthy it needs a few things and he's sort of shocks all around and it's got a couple of lower control arm bushes that I just just got a bit of cracking but unfortunately it's going to remain leak which is a bit of a pain in the backside, so transmission out.
Yeah, pretty much. So curse of the free I know it's
happened to guess. Yeah.
Maddie, we talked about it, we talked about it but see the thing is I knew I knew it was going to I got to have the rocker cover gasket language which is getting done anyway with the timing belt. But I was like I guarantee I
said to myself, I guarantee the remains are going to the cars.
Been sitting over three years and has been driven in three years until until they took it out.
Like you know, quite recently. I'm like for sure it's going to
have a real man. Like I had a hunch and sure
enough it's either the big one or two just to drip it.
A drip, but run the said he's going to, he's going to stop see the servicing and as well. He's like, what we'll do is,
we'll clean it up. We'll put a bit of remain, stop
leak in it. Just to get you through the,
through the, the Roadie. Yeah.
And he's like just whenever you're ready, we'll if it's in a year or so we can, we can we can do the rear main don't, but we'll just, we'll just try get you through the road at this point, but he's like, he's like the rest of the car is meant by.
He's actually, it's a really good car.
He's just, he's like, it's just what happens when you let a car seat? And I'm like, I know like my
type. Is going to go to remain weep
and it just just because it's it's like they doesn't lead anywhere else just leaps through weeps.
They're so. So it's going to be a bit longer
that we obviously had a back by now, but they're they're trying to, you know, run is going to push, you put up, put up, put a few miles on it because it takes about 150 cows for that stuff to start really working. So he's like, he's like, he's
not comfortable passing, it just yet until it's completely.
Yeah, you know, good and I'm like, that's fair enough.
So so, basically, Luckily he's just going to go to put you know probably 50 or 60 k on it, just drop it back and you know and make sure it's all good but he's like the rest of the car.
Mechanically spot on tires. Are good, brakes are good.
Everything else is 100%. He's like he's like you got a
good car. It's like you just got unlucky
with the rear main but he's like he's like look to do it.
Probably would have to take the transmission out but he's like if we can get away with it for the Roadie for now, we will we will we will do that so I'm like that's totally cool.
It doesn't automatically automatically.
Yeah. Because the other Useful.
The remain could have been if you need a new clutch true.
That's what is a good opportunity to get it done.
What, while you're in there and a job also have another one on typhoon because the clutch, so good.
So, the and & Run aren't even, even blue cars that don't do what I need to do your classes. That they like, it's not it's
not peacing out. So you just when you whenever
you change the clutch just thought then other than that don't worry about it put a piece of cardboard on the car.
She's right so so that's that my laser they change the sensor which was a that was a nightmare to get because they just don't Exist. I don't exist from Ford or
Mazda, they don't exist secondhand, they don't exist anywhere, you cannot buy aftermarket.
So I ended up going to pinch apart and getting one from there and gave it to him. And it turns out it was the, it
was the center that was throwing the code Because the actual ABS pump has has said no more. So, so I had to go back to you
back to pinch apart, take the pump up the car and that I was taking little bits off and then went back.
So that was done. Today, so both lasers are
currently currently on a hoist. So that was done today though
and Runners Jesse driving the home tonight.
Just to make sure to make sure that that's all good.
He's like he's like especially not when you do you like anything big bright he likes to make sure that the cars fine.
So he said he's like if I could borrow it for one more night just to make sure it's good. I'm like that's that's fair and
wine so I should get that back to Morrow but that was that's virtually it off and I drove the MR2.
I drove that all last week actually.
Those benefit has been fun, and that's pretty much it on my end.
Now, do what I was thinking I was driving my job in the MR2 actually and I saw a person in a really nice to 30 tons of 230.
See, it was a tattoo, it was, it was w123 Coupe to 1836 to ATC.
Sorry. There you go.
And it was lovely. Like it was mint and like it.
Yeah, it was a car that breaks next are you you made them.
It made you turn your head and say, wow.
That's a nice car and I'm like that is so baller.
Like that is so much cooler than driving like a modern Connor sports car like it's for me. That just exudes cool.
I don't know if it's, if it's just me or if it or if you guys would agree but like having a having an old car that's mint and looks good. And it's just driven and it was
on a full plate as well. I had full plates.
I was like, you know what? That's pretty damn something
special. I saw like we see limousines and
Verizon I've gone through every time you drive there and it doesn't I don't bat an eye but seeing a really clean really clean Siggy. I was like wow that that blew me
away is it more baller to drive an older car, that's getting can potentially break and things. Then driving a new car.
That's that's like a new sports car.
Do you think it's more cool? And do you think it's more?
Like, you know, like more respect in that instance?
Or do you think it's just like, oh well, you just got an old car that that he kind of likes. Good question, in theory.
Yes, totally agree. Yeah, I reckon, especially if
it's in Nice condition or even sometimes if it's, in really rally condition, you know, I mean, if it's an original, I think that element of Rihanna, smokes draws people's attention.
It's like, you know, it's like Porsches and and you Ferraris, I mean your Heinie's Ferrari, but you're sort of, I think all the old ones will always be cooler. Yeah, it's almost as if they're
more about a unattainable I suppose.
If you've got the the really usable you can afford the list payments. You can find pretty much
anything, can't you? But, you know, a cool old thing.
I think it's always going to be called.
There are some exceptions. Now, I think sent round to the
fugitive, had a picture of a Jimny.
That's been modified to look, like, a 79 series Land, Cruiser, which was jumping jiminy's. We have to be the cool.
This new car there is I think, I mean, whenever you see one of those on the road while it catches your attention as well.
You know, when you hit me some of the messaging and you said that's the Jimmy said to be the coolest car on on-site.
Like, you got me thinking, like, I can't think of anything else, that's cooler than I, than an engineer.
But brain is like that in, that's just exudes cool.
And they were just like, yeah, that's cool like unanimously respected as cool. Like there's not many cars that
you can say, they can say that about and a chimney you know, especially that they're bringing out like the retro strived ones out of you've seen Georgie tradition.
Yeah. Did you get?
Yeah. They look so sick.
Lyle always like you know that that's that's really cool.
I think there's a few key key elements.
I think. I think the I think the Retro
style makes them cool. Like a new car that's
retro-styled. I think the fact is small.
I think that's, you know, I mean cars have continually got bigger and bigger and bigger. If you know, with each
Incarnation and seems of each model, you look at early photos of an earlier 911 compared to a new ones about the top twice the length, but it looks much bigger.
But I think small retro relatively affordable to, you know, I mean and even going back when the mini came out that was one of its key. That was a similar thing, wasn't
it? It was embraced by everyone, you
know, there will cool people drove them and then that'll be able one as well. It's awesome.
That's right. With the cot with the classes
called Lika Lika Jimmy. I guess I guess that kind of
makes it kind of makes it cooler and and its own right?
And I mean that's a whole Something as well like classes cause that that that a new and that all looking like that, you can say what anybody that can that can buy that.
It's just it's unanimously respect but it got me thinking of what other cars what you know what you'd respect.
And as a few old cars, that you still see on full rage, that get around and that are driven. And the main ones I see, I like
old sobs. Like I see tons of old sobs, you
know, with full re like original for Edge as well.
And they look pretty good and they just driven out like, damn that. That that that's cool and old
mercs and And stuff like that. Like, it's, it's interesting
that that you say about, but about like, the Germany being being like, super cool, like, one of the kits, the new, the coolest car you can buy today because I reckon in 20 years time that's still going to be the same.
It's going to, it's not going to change.
I mean, let's be honest. They're going to end up
pregnant. Going to change a star like the
last one for 20 years, but I 79 series isn't as cool as a chimney. Like it just, it just isn't
natural and it makes no sense. But it's just you, it's a
unanimous cool factor. I think it's hilarious.
When you can, actually rip something off and Ripoff is cooler than the original. Yeah, I like the fact that the
fact that Jimmy pulls that off is just kind of ridiculous.
But let's go. See where do you stand on this?
Like, do you agree? Do you think that dropping all
Carla? If you have to drop your 31
every day and people like them at school?
It's gone. What would you would, you, would
you agree with that? Or would you say now, I'd rather
drive a, you know, a new hurricane or something?
And I tend to agree, I was thinking what cars?
Just stand out a lot more and you've got your line of muscle cars. Hmm, I think you just notice it.
There's something about it, the shape, the lines of it compared to many other cars. It just kind of blend in.
Yeah, I have to side with, I, they always turn my head, something that's old and just clean looking, whether its stock or a little bit modified, just older just stands out so much more. And I think even people that
aren't really into cars, it stands out to them.
Also I'm an access code, you like even if it's not something like X, The cool what you traditionally think?
There's like a sports car or anything like that if it's old and so well looked after it just implies that the person has been dedicated to their car like one of them can actually pick our boil that there was an old man in his 70s and he had an XF Falcon and this was really like, absolutely clean.
The paintwork was fully meant, you know, he was getting a service, he's getting a couple things taken care of, and you We talked to the man who liked how long you have these.
Like I bought a brand-new. Well, so he had this car for 30
plus years and you know, he purchased it when he was in his 40s. Now he's I don't mind getting
close to maybe getting his license taken away.
Hopefully not soon. Hopefully hopefully he's capable
but he really, you know, that was his car.
He bought. It was own money, it was nothing
special. It's just a falcon but he made
sure that car was maintained, it, it would be so much easier just traded in orally and Let It Go by.
Yeah, update by a brand new one, but he puts in that, if it The mechanic make sure that any little bit of Maintenance gets done. And that's, I think that really
shows. When you just see the car, you
see older Falcons on the road, but you don't see them in that kind of condition. And it's just, it was just that
man loved that car and I really chose on that level of respect.
That that person has kind of the people around you, get that respect for you as well. Well, it it's interesting.
Like, like we always reflect reflect back to that exact point when we went to your highball cards and coffee and Andrew brought, he's beige Magna time. And like, people getting super
mad at him because, you know, these old TP Magna wagon was getting more attention than supercars and it because we're just so now it was so nice. You know.
And it's and it was like, it was like a hot.
Damn, that's cool. I haven't seen one of those in a
while, like that's just it just instantly.
Cool. Which is, which is so weird to
the point because a beige Magna wagon.
It was super night was super uncool back at back in his day I think because you expect to always see a top of the line car you know the super Is always going to look clean but when you've got like a Magna there's so many of them around you just expect them to always look run down and you know messy and stuff. When you see clean want to just
catches your eye because it's not what you're used to seeing used to seeing paint fade on them.
And exactly as you get older like myself caps falling off, I may be a cracked lens lens or something, but when it's not there you like this person's look after it?
You know? This is gone, that extra mile,
it's so easy to let A car just especially in the Australian Sun have you know paint flake off and everything else.
Yeah it's a real effort to keep it in its original condition.
Let's say I also want to say like like you mentioned earlier David in terms of, you know like even a ready car that's still going on the road. Like I don't mind already Carl
on the outside but like inside if it's mint and in July mechanically it's perfect, the fact that cause you know like like getting and respected to keep to keep driving it.
Like I think that I think that in itself is, is a whole as or like a whole nother, another version of cool like this.
Well, my old teachers back in back, when don't know if you remember this but when we were in high school but excuse me.
What about sports think? Just had an old Fairlane.
Like a, it would be a really early, like Ozzy made Fairlane like and he was his daily driver.
You know, had black and white plays and he was a young guy.
He was like he was like in his 20s.
When he and that would, that was his every everyday car.
And the thing was ready, but it sounded good.
It had a full full exhaust system.
You know, they had nice rules was lowered, it was like, yeah, the pain was all hammered, but the car I ran mint and I'm like damn, that's cool. Like like for me that was the
coolest car in the teacher's car park because it was just like something so old. And and and it was a young guy
especially true driving and I was like, well you don't expect that, you know, that it's probably cost you more in his wage to repair it and fuel the damn thing.
But here's how does money goes to the Patricia?
Yeah but it was just it was just super cool to see, you know, and I thought that was like respect. Like there was teachers with
brand-new, gas, brand-new Caza, and In a cup.
Like and I was like nah man. Nothing is as cool as as he's
old failing was so many of the two teachers with Mustangs.
That was that was, that was cool.
That was cool. So, yeah, we we are two things I
bought two destroyed, mustangs from the states and they built them in there. Getting the same Garage on like
that on weekends together. They build them up and then they
drove them and they drove in the work and you could always hear him coming anyway. Basically basically one soldered
bought the Valiant Buddha belly Ian charger, which went to Adam Grasso, his brother. He bought that in an atom bought
his own charger and like it's just he's just like he had a, he had a knack for like old old Valiants and things but he'd always drive, his old is old value to work.
You know, he was it was just cool and you know it's something that it's something that you just don't you just don't see ya. And it's also like for the more
radio cars sometimes they are well put together engine were.
Sometimes they're not it's also whacked the fact that the person will take the risk. Yeah it's like I might not get
to work. Damn, y'all be cool.
Doing it. Looking cool.
Wait for a tow or something. But what if I'm late, you know,
wait for me, that's the risk you take but you know it's the appreciation of Bihar. Well I mean Edwards you're the
king of this right? You've got you've got like a
robbery I mean to be fair so you David but but Ed you've got, you've got some really, really old cars.
And you said you drove you MX-5 get hundreds of case over the weekend and you know you like yeah whatever it's a card works.
That's yeah, respect. So So, where do you stand to do?
You see, like an old MX-5 that's like, pretty clean, or even even pretty ready? But still being driven on
original plates, to think, then that's cool, or you kind of like, whatever. I'm definitely more, the older
Camp, obviously, physically. And with my car's, I think, you
know, I've got this sort of attitude where anyone can go buy new car. It's not hard.
You just order one online, walk into a showroom.
Off you go, you know, that's the easy part is buying a new car and yes, yes, a cost of your money but It ain't hard for most people to go and do that. What's hard, is keeping your car
looking good and running. Well, 30 years down the line,
like, columns example with the Falcon guy.
That is his real dedication to keep a car like that, because we all know how easy it is to not have them like that, you know, they get crushed and crashed in dinged in the car park and something big goes wrong, or the air conditioning systems failed and you get a three thousand dollar and, you know, it's so easy. Just to go are it's not worth
fixing and And, you know, move on to the next one or the newer model that looks better, I has more features and that's very tempting and easy to do. So, to stick with something that
long, I have a real respect for that and to get to keep it that nice, you know. And so that's what catches my
eye, obviously, you know, UE as it doesn't.
All of us, I think your driver and shopping centers or whatever and you go. Why check that Corolla or check
that Magnet or whatever it is. That's, that's juicy and
original. That's that's hard too.
To keep it like that for so long and you could apply to houses or furniture or anything. It's easy to get swayed by
fashion and Trends but a person who sort of sticks with it and sticks with that conviction for so long and then that you do come out the other end, you know, you think you won't you wouldn't think a beige Magna wagon would ever come out the other end and be suddenly cool or plain Jane XF Falcon.
But is friendly to that. That sort of yeah, that care.
And then it just suddenly one day, you go, that is cool.
You know, I'd like Andrew said on the magma episode, they were everywhere and suddenly they were nowhere, you know within within two or three or four years they went from being common student transport to just they're all dead, they're all gone, you know? Yeah.
So you just got to just going to stick to a magnet in my area this morning, my way to work, I was turning left at around about and turning it turning, right? Turning left.
To come past. Me was a green pea, platter in a
TI varada two tone black burrata.
Gray on top-of-the-line, top-of-the-line, I'm like, Dad it was nice and I was like, yeah.
That's I'm like, I'm like, yeah, that's a bit of Andrew, you'd love that. And I was like, well, that's a
bit of debt, a bit of Bunting and Prince because you both.
Yeah, yeah, it's cars. Yeah.
And you can press, it was his grandfather's cap.
It goes to the kid and then, Immaculate, and then the kid stuff sit, you know, I like that happens time and time again.
It's very rare that they end up with a second owner in the family, who looks after it, like the first owner did he was, it was just, I was just going to say we've talked about and I think that's a whole other genre.
Not only is the Magna and Isabel, it's beige, but I think old wagons are automatically cool to you think, you know, I want to three beds as very cool or 123.
Wagon is like mindfulness is really cool.
Yeah, I think the wagon we talked about maybe wagon, you think of an old even a Skyline wagon.
I survived, I checked out one that was on Pace with Monica place yesterday at Skyline. Chi-x wag and I think it wasn't
a lot of money, sixth grade, but I thought War wagons are cool.
You know, like any wagon and that Civic wagon that I've got.
Now, I've done the Woody kit. Everyone punished they just
that's, that's what they say. That's So cool.
You know, like the fact it's a wagon than I think.
They've got that sort of, I think, as Andrew said the episode to they, they were family hacks basically and they'll all sales reps and that sort of thing.
So yeah, the survival rate was even lower on those.
I mean, would you have if you were buying a Volvo 240?
Would you go a sedan or would you go, where can you go out?
Well, glad Do you now to look at that that XJ Cherokee that that he bought and we worked on a little bit on the weekend and we gave it a clean and everything. And instead he back from, I like
it's a cool-looking car lights, it's a box on Wheels.
It's from the 90s originally from the 80s like, that, that that kind of shape, bulletproof Mechanicals.
And those, and I, and he's like, dude, I'm going to rock this.
I'm gonna enjoy the hell out of it.
They even with the dodgy paint, but mechanically sorted, like, you know, this is this is awesome.
And I'm like, that is so retro. Oh, cool.
It's it's like 10 years ago. I would have been trashed, but
now it's actually really, really cool.
But I guess is where Andrews, guess since with sits with with, with the, the whole magne, magne situation here, but like, it's just it's it's just so much cooler to see like old cars, you know, getting getting used for Edge and, and like, even on a club member, just, just to see him out and like, on a morning drive to work, which is, which is just, it's cool because, like, in a sea of SUVs, in a sea of, you know, Boring white Camrys and you know, cougars is actually really nice to see to
see ya, something different and you know, you got any car park and I'll test this to, our listeners, are going to what many car got any car park anywhere in the world.
You would just see a sea of SUVs and if you will see one cool car, that whole thing, you'd be lucky to see it.
But when you do you like, well yeah, it'll it'll, it'll make you go. Well, that's, that's really
sick. So I just, I think, personally,
wear that kind of where, that And of sits.
As you know, it's definitely more boring.
And every time, I every time I see, you know, I see something like that. I, you know, I take notice but I
was gonna ask you guys, which of the cars that you see the most out of that are driven, like older cars.
Are you still seeing on the road?
Like, I see, I still see plenty of w onto fours.
So as I was saying sobs you know, the magnet is that's a bit of an anomaly like, you know, especially with Andrews ones because like you don't see many of those but like there are other cars that are still uses usable dailies a daily, you know, daily classic. So you know modern guy while I
wouldn't In the over 25 years old.
That has two uses dailies and get us play Civics.
I still get around you know like that.
And roll is my gosh, I'm so sorry.
You like honey crawls from now on.
He's getting getting around especially in my area.
You know, one of the one of the ones that you see that you like, well, I they still get driven a lot even though they're, you know, well, inverted commas past it technology.
And every year I noticed that Brian's, your listing their math. You are mainly Japanese funny
about that. That's right Subaru's Subaru's
tend to live long lives, most of them.
So you do see a lot of old impreza's and even the old gum l-series wagons from the 90s Liberties and, you know, there's a lot of those still getting beating around, you know, just talking the other day, about first gen rav4's.
I mean, something funny is happened to them and they have gone absolutely nuts. Price wise for a good one, but
you still, did I mention that on the podcast?
I can't remember if I did. But the other morning I woke up.
3 a.m. or something, couldn't sleep.
So what do you do? You start looking at car sales
and market place? And I came across a threat.
I thought one of the early rav4's.
Do I came across a three-door RAV4 in Melbourne?
That was he spent 12 Grand scouring the world for the rear accessories that go with the first gen RAV4.
So the storage boxes inside the rear door and the headlight covers in the tail light covers and the decals.
And you know it was really nicely done like 147,000 k on it or something. Thing.
But, you know, he had a sale for 20, think 23, or 21 or 22, Grand or something. And I was like, who are an
original ready for that money and then it was on hold a couple of days later on car sales and I thought he's got a buyer, you know, but it was beautiful the Plastics had been, you know, re finished beautifully on the outside because they all you need to basically armor or weekly to keep them looking.
Nice I suppose. But then there was another one
on there. It not dissimilar money and I
thought, holy hell, 3-door grow. It was a, you know, sought after
but and that's a prediction I have, is that early because we all love an SUV will not. We all but you know, the market
loves an SUV and I thought the early retro SUVs that are now Club playable but actually very handy like an early patara or an early RAV4 or an early. CRV Honda anything of that.
Ilk, I think will become a bit retro call it a bit collectible also useful, it's not a useless two-seater MR2 or at him.
X5, it's a it's a car. You can have as a second current
actually use. So I think that that stuff will
come into its own a bit more. I completely agree with you.
I agree with you there, whatever.
Um, I'm just thinking back to like my drive here.
I'm like, did I see any good cars?
I just like you you too and then it's a SUV SUV.
I would hear. I was wrong to you too.
So, yeah, I'm partly to blame the situation.
Yeah, you wouldn't blame. I guess part of the problem.
David, I do at least it's The Japanese you that's been entitled style until until it's gone.
Hi Suzy reliability. Damn it.
Does it when you start off, when you first get a cold start and you move off as sounds exactly like a truck?
Yeah, that's the one thing it's got going for after about 10 seconds is the truck sound Fades away, and it's back to you.
But yeah, I'm just I'm actually struggling to think now that like, on the way he, I don't think I saw a single the car.
That made me think. Wow, that's nice.
I think it's all just, you know, your SUVs and then, you know, just some older youths. That's it that kind of makes you
sleep thinking about it. Yeah.
Like I look at look at as we all do cars online and and stuff and it's interesting like the things that we that we still, we still end up seeing but like I think, you know, seeing those Liberties are going to be getting so old and stuff seem.
Like I think the cars are going to be taking over that.
I like a, you wagons and be a BF wagons and stuff like that.
That'll That quite reliable and HUD, leave them people just Chuck stuff in our. I was that, you know, I was, I
mean, they, it's hard to believe that there are over 20 years old now. And really, really be a wagon.
But that's just, that's just, that's just how I.
Ah, but like the real duel trust funds are going to be finished with, like, ee, some quite nice ones that that'll do, that'll still there, still keep going and, and we'll be using II.
Think that next kind of the next 10 years will be will be kind of climbed to it where it territories that right now in there like cycle or they got the bottom of like there, they hit their look at that. I think they're kind of like at
their lowest point. Good job to just get up, get a
bigger yard by budgeted for your cheeks.
Don't make a comeback ice with be yeah, it'll be interesting to see but yeah, like it's interesting that you say that you felt that you pointed up that point out it.
But that those cards out, that quite reliable are, the Japanese cars of the world, you know, the avatars are the rav4's.
Are the Subaru, Liberty wagons, you know that?
Still kind of a round, which is interesting because like you don't see many like E39 5-series around anymore.
You don't see many when you saw a couple of them begin to see as many as like a Superman. I went sort of the volume to
begin with I suppose I do much long body and that's that's true. And yeah, Much More Much More
unattainable To them. To most people like an E39
wouldn't want one of my favorite BMWs bit like you like, you know, even at a cheap price, people would still you still seem a lot more Corollas. And then you would like from
that erode. Then then the nose on the road,
which is what I think Joe with more exotic stuff, I'll keep costs as well. Yeah, that's true.
How do you guys work? A lot of them.
Hmm. With more exotic stuff, it's
always going to survive. And that's like a Ferrari is
never going to be taken to the wrecker or left outside on the street, you know, it's just not that kind of car.
So there's very high survival rate even though they're low volume, there's a high survival rate, whereas the other stuff that that is used in trashed and abuse, And that's why it's so nice to see them because they're sort of a lot of the yeah, they were never destined survival in the same way as any exotic like, you know, I'm a Sadie's been zest.
Okay? Yes.
There will be nestled case that the Get Wrecked, but far less getting rekt than falcons or Magnus.
Yeah, well, it's just interesting that you say that because like, you know, I as you guys you guys like, I like those cheap cars that, you know, they can get around.
It was sad because I mean, We've talked about your cure.
You had a few times Edward and the go.
All right, heads to? Yeah.
Yeah. They use sold on and the guy was
selling it, if you'd like a few years later, and it was pretty trashed. And you're like, how often do I
can save this car? I can bring it back.
Yeah, it's just like, it's just like, it got to the point where it was just used, as I think was like, what's a super each car?
And it will for sure he didn't service at that.
Well, and her best taillight and something else.
I don't know. Like, I'll let, yes, I can bring
it back. But at that point I just thought
Mmm. Yeah, nah, so I let it go.
Let it go. Tits up.
What else border? Yeah, I can't even go to the
record, I think that. Yeah, I thought they can, they
can do that. Doesn't lead to.
Yeah, so, you know, you pick him comes as I say, pick your battles in terms of what's called David, what cars have you seen that, that that are still on the road?
I have to agree with the Liberties.
I find a Suzuki Baleno wagon, the other day, talking of wagons and, but just over their wagon, a very rare wagon.
Certainly, I'm just trying to think of a local stuff having having become friends with With young Andrew, I did actually also on Facebook marketer Place, check out a manual, 89 Camry wagon that was for sale. The rule that takes a few boxes,
probably doing a grazing. The I agree.
I just don't think that the as particularly as an older car, unless it's a, you know, a known to be robust like a 1, 2 3 or 12, for the, a lot of the Euro stuff doesn't age.
Well, when it's, when it's not, incredibly collectible, and They some of them develop reputations for unreliability, quite rightly. So in some cases, so, Japanese
or Australian. I mean, the you still see plenty
of commodore wagons on the road and Falcons all the way through.
And I mean there's not much the I think was the Falcon wagon.
The biggest load space of all the like Olivia was back in a slum it was enormous. So you know as a low carrier
that is still great thing. Like if you You happen to like a
be a wagon. Like you put the season.
They are massive in size. Yeah, you can almost play tennis
and AI that they're these big huge.
Like they are genuinely a ridiculously size wagons.
Yeah, I've got tennis. Yeah, it's in about like other
saying like when I was watching the Euro Cars, early, I like the only ones that I was mentioning where were the, you know, like the old sobs that were quite robust in the old, the old mercs and, and Volvo's, you know, like oh, you know, a 240 240 wagon.
Pretty yeah, robust kind of thing.
Indestructible indestructible. I ate soooo those ones will, you
know, when you when you think of those cars that it's because it's because they were very well long-lived you know than and for that reason. So God bless the a you wagon.
You know helping low-income single dads and move to the new place of residence. You know since 1998 biscotti any
ones that you see before you move on to the quiz?
Yes you're talking about. I did see one of been that long
ago since few days ago probably just last week a really, really nice E39. Hmm.
And a topical now just scare When you mention, they go oh yeah, you're right, I did say really nice one and then it made me start thinking I don't really see many of them.
In fact, I don't really see many 5 Series BMW at all.
