So I thought, oh, here go, that's interesting.

That's that's just like the car that the club restored, which is about to find a new home actually, which is very exciting. Someone's going to.

Continue to love it as we've loved it.

About an hour ago I I sent a message off to someone who's got a store receipt for it and sign the.

Paperwork. And so I had had reason to write

down the chassis number. I've just looked at this owners

manual for sale for $10. It's the same chassis number as

our car scrawled on the back of it in handwriting.

So I just thought, is 10 bucks. What are the chances of that

happening like, you know. My goodness, that's crazy.

You know, couldn't believe. It so, yeah, that's blind me for

six. I think I.

updates straight away anyway, seeing as you've said, your cool car story, what's happening in your world?

With my car updates OK, I've given a bit of everything this week. I got the we had a hard rubbish

collection this week at our in our street.

So I thought I better move this Civic Waggon out of the street, just in case they you know, confuse it with the stuff that's on the on the nature strip. So that got a bit of a run

around the block and didn't wasn't happy starting.

But most people aren't happy starting when they have been started for a while in this sort of weather, you know.

So anyway it started fine each time since then.

That I've actually had to move it.

So back in the street I had reason to drive my youngest sons O3 Euro a couple of times this week.

He's been away and had a bit of work done on it.

But that's cars done 297,000 Ki think now cheats and nice car to drive. Still it's such a smooth sort

of. Substantial feeling car.

Very, very good car. It's a shame Honda still don't

make a Euro. I sound a bit boomer in saying

that, but a very good cars in their time and they remain great to drive now that cars 20 years old this year so.

For me that that era of Honda was kind of like peak Honda for me. Like like they they just, they

did. They thought they were kicking

goals with which with whatever they touched.

Really that kind of particular was just like it was a great, great car. Actually coming up on the

weekend and I'm gonna go stick my nose in down in Cheltenham.

Got to sit in the new Fiat 500 E that's just been released the other day I was in its Agganis. They're pretty cool looking

little jigger. They're very excited about those

lots of pre orders, about 50, about 55 which is bad for an electric car. But yeah they're very, very

optimistic about that. They're still getting the piston

engine cars too as well in the in the new shape.

But yeah, it's just a a progression of that that reborn fee of 500. It's a bit wider in every

dimension and much more substantial.

My timing was saying that they're great to drive and they really, really cool to really well planted on the road and in much more substantial feeling than the old model.

So we're expecting big things of that had to wander around Duttons today and we've had to quote a job there that's always an entertaining little. Little couple of hours spent, do

you? The cool thing was I I I ended

up talking to my contact there about cubes.

Nissan cubes. Modifying this in cubes so that

wasn't something I'd expected to be talking to about it.

Duttons, but you know, you never know where the where the conversation takes you with cars.

When you get the guns do you just you just still seeing dollar signs for your for your business like you're like OK I can I can charge it at this point whatever I want.

No, no, I wouldn't say that publicly.

Oht no no they're all I've I've obviously some cars are it depends what the what the job you're doing what the alternative to what what you're doing for them is.

You know I found I heard a good one the other day.

I was the old Kluger probably sort of 10 year old Krugers.

They've got a great big centre console and the the vinyl lid on them cracks really badly under your right left elbow and they look really tatty and of course as soon as you're open to drive a store that's just lets the hold it lets the interior down and a guy that dealer should call me to go in and I said yeah look you get that recover it's about $150.00 and.

All that and then he rang me back later, he said.

I found one on eBay for $19.00. I said really?

He said yeah, yeah, they're in Australia and then $19.00 like

the parts, like $600.00 from Toyota.

Well. They ordered one just for

giggles and perfect chips perfectly absolutely solves the problem. So I think I might have to order

a few of those and just keep in the back of the van at that much and then and then fit themselves, so.

And say it's $150.00. Aftermarket for Toyota Kluger is

alive and well so. I think that's all my updates

Man, I actually put my Mustang in the garage for the first time in. Six months.

That was real good. So it's it's got a nice home

now, so a bit more room up the driveway.

What else have been working on the 4:30 I've got replaced the the damage for right hand guard. The bumper bars are smashed.

The lower driving light was smashed.

Replaced all that and fixed it all up.

So. Ready to move it on.

So I was going to buy that as a parts car and used the the motor into the older 280 CE, but sort of changed direction.

I'm going to put a six cylinder motor in that one.

So we've got that six cylinder W 210 that we're going to throw a motor in to the 280 CE. And yeah, so I've got a 430 for

sale. Very good.

It's looking good. Hopefully I can sell it and move

it on. Absolutely.

My van should be here next month, so that's good.

Yeah, I'm sort of have transit, the transit, Yeah, brand new transit. So it's supposed to be here on a

in Australia on about the 28th, so it's only.

Amy dies 10 days away. And then by the time it clears

customs, docs and everything else.

I think it's in the dealership would be probably mid August.

Yeah, yeah, so that's. I'm looking forward to that.

And what else on your car front, that's pretty much it.

I think besides the new car front, you've got so many cars on order that we're actually having a new car front and a used car front. Well, yeah, well the the Suzuki,

Jimny sort of done a bit of work on that but rock sliders on it and bigger tyres and a roof, so sort of just trying to get it all kitted out. But Harley's been driving that

quite a bit and he's starting to get tired of it already.

He's he's getting blown around in the wind with these windy days, yeah. Edward, we finalised cars here.

You get blown around a little bit there.

Yeah he's he's someone was gonna was looking at Barnet really wanted he took it off and paused the ad but I said just leave the ad pause there's no there's no rush to sell it so OK it is up for sale if someone comes along but at the moment it's just taken off car car sales at the moment but yeah apart from that where you know if we would be good to have the money ready for a bargain you know AMG GT that will come along one day but there was one in Sagami's pre COVID we you know 142 or $48,000

plus on roads. Is one of the cheapest ones

we've seen and it only had about 18,000 kilometres on it, but now you can't find anything sort of under 18190.

So. What was that?

That's probably about a 2018 or something like that.

There's a 2016, OK, yeah, but that was so I was back at 20/20/2019 for three or four years old and you've lost half the value of the car. Yeah.

Yeah. And now they've gone up a bit

again. So they're going back up to

18190 mark. They're just terrifies me to

lose that much money in a car, just they just.

What was the one I would say a lot of those cars, when you get into that sort of thing, it's a tax write off somewhere somehow you don't buy a car like that without buying it off or buying it against some sort of write off in the business somehow.

I'm sure there's some some creative accountants out there and businessmen who buy them. That's it.

Spent the weekend here and they're watching some of the Goodwood Festival. Hmm.

Festival speed. There's some pretty good cars

out there, so I was just enjoying some of that.

Didn't have such a great run. That wasn't the best.

On multiple occasions. Sadly, I wonder why wasn't going

on. But it was good to see the the

shootout and the old Calsonic 32 GDR doing pretty good against something was that thing is fast against some of the big boys, so that was entertaining, was entertaining on the day.

It was raining. I think that was the.

Thursday or Friday it was raining and then they had to cancel the Saturday. Then they just had it on the

Sunday. So yeah, some interesting cars.

Running in the UK? Who would have thought?

You know, weird. And then one day was too windy.

There must be driving chimneys and said no we're sorry we got we gotta we. Gotta have too many Times Now.

And just imagine all tipped over on their sides.

long. I was preparing a humble meal

I've eaten most of it already, Alan.

But yeah, when you work in automotive sales and you don't get lunch break, you learn to eat really fast.

So that habit has stayed with me for a long time, which is probably not a good thing anyway.

Car updates where we got, what we got.

Subaru sold, sold the little Impreza GX sedan, very happy new owner. I had a lot of interest in that

car despite having body damage on it.

I put it on for three, eight with the roadworthy, roadworthy and Ridge till December. And yeah, my phone was pinging

off its head on that, that little survey about 82,000 K from you, you know. So people who like an Impreza

and the guy who bought it was very sort of appreciative.

He goes, he goes, oh, this is a great model.

I don't sort of make them like this anymore.

I love it. It's so smooth.

And you know, he, he really sort of liked it and he wasn't fussed about the crunchy. Up above so I'm like man.

That's good. Picked up the Holden Berlina.

I had a couple of dents taken out of that only very mild dents but picked that up Saturday morning that just needs me to Polish it and advertise it and that that's and the other low mileage car done very similar case like 81 1/2 thousand on that. So that drives really smoothly

and yeah I I enjoy getting around in it but the one I'm enjoying the most is my diesel Prado.

So I'm almost. I'm almost 90% convinced.

I'll hang on to the Prado till next year and take it on a Fraser Island trip because it's just ticks every box, that car.

You know, like Tom, who's been on the podcast before, and I were talking about buying a Fraser car.

Something you're not too concerned about.

Like Rob might not take his brand new Jimmy to Fraser, but you might take something old that you just buy and sell.

So Tom and I were like, oh, we'll get an old Pajero or a Jeep or a Challenger or an Outlander.

Yeah, whatever. Just to Fang up there and Fang

back and but then you go, oh, well, it's got to have working econ because it would be bloody. But you know and then our cruise

control be nice cause you're driving 2 1/2 days to to get there and then you go. Bluetooth stereo would be good

and this prado's got it all like cold air timing belt done, shocks done good. Bridgestone KO2 tyres on it.

You know cruise control done. Bluetooth stereo don't you just

go. Well, great.

It's even got a CB radio in it, you know, it literally is turnkey for that trip. And I thought, if I sell this,

yes, I'll make money on it, but then I'll be hunting around trying to find something and oh, the trips coming up and I can't find the right car and I thought, I'm better off just putting in a shed. Anyway, so I think I'll do that.

So Rob, when would you like it in your shed?

Just taking the fries are all. And make sure you drive through

that salty Little River crossing here and get it all salted up.

That's right. You put it in the shed, it could

slowly rust away. I'm putting in the shed before I

go to praise. Oh, OK.

I actually remember the last time I was there, I took my discovery and that did a good job all around the island.

But when you come off at Rainbow Beach, there's a a car wash that sprays up from underneath, you know, specifically for washing the four wheel drives. So you spend 20-30 bucks in

there and blast it all out and, you know, I think you'd be pretty right. Right.

Will be bringing the Jimmy. Yeah, I probably won't keep it

for that long anyway. I'll rustle on someone else's,

yeah. Something happened.

The product. The old ones used to rust pretty

bad. The old.

You might remember more than me. Is there a swift in your life?

No, not yet. But I got a call on that today.

So I with being a a dealer I can access cars off a sort of a a platform where people advertise their cars and dealers bid on them. And I found last night a Suzuki

Swift sport, the very first Gen ever sport like a you know of the new Gen so like an O6 model and 279,000 K on that I think are in a manual and yeah it had the books and whatever and it's got a scrape on the front bar and it's got a faded roof and there was. The icon wasn't working or

something, but it was 1500 bucks.

Buy it now. And I went ohhhhh, geez, I've

always liked those. That's pretty cheap.

And so I offered them a grand for it and I got a call today saying oh thanks for your offer. We're trying to get in touch

with the owner and we'll be back in touch once we do so.

And then I I didn't hear again so hopefully tomorrow I hear something. I mean I'm not fussed if I get

or not, but it got if it was a grand.

You'd have that. You know that.

A running little Cliff sport. I don't know what I'd do with

it, but. I saw.

shop that did this, to the soft top and I said everything's all nice and well done, but I can't latch it up.

And I don't I think it was the owner this time they spoke to me and he said ohe you're the one that got the the blue one the with the MSR I'm like yes that's exactly he said so you're not supposed to launch it immediately And he said the boys until you're no of course they didn't tell me but why do you think they told me and then I would you know what I'm going to you know disregard the advice and just don't match it because that's fun thing to do and. Obviously he he thought, well,

it's just a simple thing. You just put it back on.

And I said, look, I'm not, I'm not going to claim the strongest man around, but I'd say I'm about as strong as the average person. We had me and my dad tried to

push the driver side down and latch it and it wouldn't latch.

So he's got the passenger side latch.

And I'm like, well, even I did that.

So let's, let's see you do the other side and he gets on the other side and he's like, oh see, you just got to, he's going to pull it from here and and latch it on and then and then immediately on, latches on. And he doesn't again.

And he does the third time. He's like, see, see, it's, it's,

it's basically there. I'm like, yeah, it's not lining

up properly and I'm not feeling confident driving that on the freeway the way it is. And immediately, as he says, you

know, it should be right in our matches again.

And then he decides to blame the actual elections because they are old, He said, oh, you know, they're a bit worn out, so well, it's a good thing I've got 2 Brandy.

Let's just sitting right here. So how about you put those on

and as I was like, alright, just bring it into the little front garage part and I'll put the new ones on.

When does the the old ones put new ones on?

It latches just fine and this time I haven't unlatched it yet, he said. You know, ideally leave it out

in some kind of let it kind of form to the full shape nicely and then give it a couple of weeks and then it should be fine for more of the warmer air months, fewer start opening it up because normally what happens is they are manufactured and they sit there for a while. They kind of stretch out a

little bit over time, but my one apparently basically built and then sent immediately. Automine, the blue wasn't a very

common colour, so for that reason it's like basically we they manufactured it, shipped it over and we've thrown it straight on. So it's probably a little

tighter than it usually would be.

So I was, I was happy with that. I was like, you know, it's all,

it's all working, it's all left. I'll leave it for now, you know.

Leave it in the sun. How much would the how much were

the latches out of interest? I ended up getting them quite a

while ago, but I got them for about, I think, about 180 a piece. But they did come from the UK.

Um, I think the the local supply we wanted 220 apiece.

So saving 40 bucks between, you know, the two latches, I think that's pretty good deal for me. 440 bucks.

You have 4 on top of the cost of the roof.

Yeah. Cause they don't say that you've

gotta replace the latches, for I've never actually heard them replacing the latches. No, yeah but like the because I

just saw the lectures were immediately had the car they're a bit I guess someone or you know like pitted from you know Queensland and sent us terrible weather.

So I thought I'd eventually like to change these and so I'm just, I'm like you had them on on me. I've got to give them when they

actually did the soft top but it worked out all well.

So that's a plus, a negative. The Falcon is making a noise as

my dad always like to say. He's just making another like

when does it increase, decrease, is it during acceleration or braking anything. I don't know.

It's just making a noise that's on my great.

You know thanks for the diagnosis there is really helping out and I started up the car do my own little diagnostics. I'm not percent sure it's it's

blown another cat. OK, in the process of blowing

the cat, because right now it's not losing too much power, but the noise is there. OK.

It's OK now when? I'm not paying for that.

Well. I didn't ask you to pay for it,

did I? When I buy that Falcon, that cap

better be fresh. It'll be fresh, would be fresh,

but just so you want all cats, do not come with a warranty when filled with LPG. Hmm, just just got the cat and

then like Ed won't know. That's another idea.

Like. Like I said, I drove the kind of

vandals and I noticed that I was lacking in power, having trouble overtaking that sort of thing. Did not throw, you know, check

engine light at all. And we just kind of troubleshoot

had to just trot with Michael be like, yeah, it's the cat that's blocked and it's gone for the first time it happened the the subsequent times we kind of knew what was going on.

So this time I think the cats basically on the way up is gone for the service on Thursday and it'll probably get the cat replaced at that time. So you know it'll be a fresh cat

for you. You could just tuning in now to

this podcast and hearing this guy and I will be reporting RSPCA. Getting cats and then you know

there's new cats and there's not having good dogs are involved I think. Dogs in chains.

Dogs. It could also be is it the

original catalogue? This is the 4th 1:00.

So weird. We had a we had a BAE gas and we

did 300,000 keys on that and never had an issue.

But maybe it's because your dad doesn't go full throttle every so often and blow the cobwebs out of it and give it a good clean out. It's definitely think well a lot

been, what, 16 years? And it's I think it's got about

180,170 thousand case that's which that's nothing for a Falcon like no when when you consider it.

I've got to respond but he did say they can't they get him at work do change the diesel philtre out 15,000 don't wait for the So I'll ask them how much they going to do for and they will probably call me something ridiculous and I'll say don't worry about it. I'll take care of myself and

just buy the philtre from my local auto parts and just get it done myself. Unless they decide to be

reasonable about it in which case you know but they weren't.

This is more for my sister. He's been adamant about buying a

golf art, and specifically a golfer, because her sister in law has a GTI and so she has to have one better than her, You know, weird politics. But she didn't just want any old

golfer, she wanted the 20th anniversary because that was something that hit her radar. And I I warned her very quickly.

I said there's fifty of them coming to Australia.

You're probably not the only person after this car.

Be ready to order it online and be ready to be disappointed when you miss out because. You know, that's how a lot of

these online ordering things work.

So you know, she comes on by my house on Wednesday, She's ready to get ordering. I think it's two weeks before

the cars are supposed to be available and she's doing some weird doctor stuff, like with some little candle thing waving around there somewhere. If I was you, I'd be sitting on

the computer. You know, doing some voodoo over

here and low and behold voodoo didn't work.

We weren't able to secure one. And yeah, she was in a weird

state of being very upset with pretending she wasn't upset.

I personally think it's a blessing in disguise because no sane person would spend $86,000 on a golfer.

Yeah. Ouch.

Yeah, so I said, look, if you're that adamant to spend that money on this kind of a silly car anyway, buy an Audi S3, which which should be a few grand cheaper.

And you basically got the same car anyway.

Yeah. And you can pretend you're an

early you know, all that. But then she's like, no, I'm

going to buy an RS3, which I believe is over $100,000.

So it's it's gotten worse and worse as things have progressed.

Well like I said I I tried to help her out and I've, I've, I've personally, you know cleaned my hand in the situation. I said you know what?

Your dealer should be some whatever contract you want.

It's not my problem anymore. So the three thing Yeah,

Mercedes C63 for sale. C63 I don't think she wants she

wants a hatchback or something of that sort.

It's got it's got a cat issue. You know.

When I did change the exhaust, the guy told me where the catalytic converter is. The way the world did it, it

cracks around there. So it does crack around where

they Weld it from factory and that's where they found a lot of them do have those issues around there.

And he's like when he goes, if it ever happens, he goes, hopefully doesn't happen, but if it ever happens, we either swap it with the hot dog or we just go straight part.

So if you do get a straight pipe, it's gonna be loud.

It's gonna be very. Loud.

Right now I'll probably. I probably put a hot dog in

there or something. Something that keeps the same

note, I guess. Don't wanna go too loud.

Yeah, Hot Dog gets rid of that drone, which is.

Important. Because it doesn't have any,

doesn't have a drone at the moment, even on the freeway.

Obviously when you when you take off it's got that that little bit in there, but once you. Yeah, once you hit 80 to 100K,

as it's quite you wouldn't even know how to exhaust on it.

That's what you want. Yeah, but no.

Everything's all good. Subs working fine, so yeah.

Very, very sleepy. How it held off on a little bit

of the purchases of the car went a bit crazy at the start buying a few things obviously fixing it up.

Oh the windows I fixed the windows up the I didn't update on that So the windows switch her last time was it was weird.

It was going down going down with the drivers but wouldn't go up with the driver side but would go up on the passenger side but knocked down on the passenger side.

So I pulled that the the master control on the driver side out and they tend to on the circuit board they tend to get a little.

Well, it is weird, but like it's just like it gets a little bit of a blackish like grime, kind of the yeah on the contacts.

So I just got the sandpaper out sanded, sanded that off the contacts as well, put it all back together, works fine.

The only real, the only real thing that I don't like and that is so when on the on the window switches to put it up and down.

They've got two plastic prongs that sit on the inside to push the thing up and down. And.

If you're pushing it up and down, they obviously as often they start to wear because the metal contacts heat up and then they're plastic. So the plastic starts to melt.

So when the plastic starts to melt, they started to shorten, you know, and they and they get shorter and shorter.

So eventually, I mean you do need to change it out, but if they should have designed it to be something more durable so it doesn't melt with the heat, obviously when you're when you're using the switch, well, yeah, everything else is all good. I've got no updates myself, so

we will move on to tonight's topic, which is our current cars that we own. If we had to go back in time

again and replace them with a different car.

So for example if I was to buy my laser again, what would I bought differently if I wasn't to buy the laser, what would you have bought and why? So I'll put a bit of a list

together of my cars that I that I I've currently owning are currently own and what I would have bought differently or what my other options would have been.

But I'd go around the room first to the round the room and the screens I should say and see what you guys would have replaced your existing cars with.

have said I would have preferred to have this or would have would have wanted to buy this and you all can't just and you're.

And during that time and with the same budget, correct.

You can also say what you what you talk about for now in terms of like, you know, same budget. It doesn't matter if it's now or

at the start, but when you're looking for him at the same time, now alarm. You cannot say, oh I buy a, you

know, Ferrari Enzo, it doesn't work that way.

I mean that that would be the answer to most people, to most peoples, to most people's issues.

And there was also the inspiration for the styling of the original NSX, so. We'll talk about the Camry

first Gen Integra with pop up headlights is probably one of the most cohesive designs from Japan.

I'm sure there were quite a bit more expensive when that car came out and they were Hondas were not cheap cars back then.

They were proportionately to other cars on the market.

They were always premium pricing but always premium product too.

I mean you know the the Formula One technology that went into them and the mechanical 4 wheel steering, those third Gen prelude was pretty awesome to drive that fun cars to drive manual 4 wheel step really probably I would have would have if I had bought the Integra. Very good.

And what about the other cars that you you've owned or they sorry that you own now what would you have swapped them with? Well interestingly I was

thinking about my work van today about this topic.

So I've got a 2020 Caddy, we all know Volkswagen product on this on this podcast. We've talked about it before

addling. But for the for what I need it

to do it's it's brilliant if I've just got to manage the mechanical fear that that sort of resides with with that product. But the having had as a

mentioned before the DST clutch is replaced on that car at 35,000 K's I think. It's just about to hit 40 and so

far so good. So another 5000 I've got out of

them. That's woohoo.

I'm doing well, but there's nothing else really of that size that that I'd want that Peugeot. I've actually just released

today, I saw that the press release information on on the car sales side, there's an E partner coming out, so there's an electric version of their small van come out.

The Kangaroos had an electric van for a while.

But I'd really like. It a Japanese or Korean based

fan rather than a European based fan.

I think. I think in Australia.

I think the Japanese and Korean stuff is probably a better long term proposition. I certainly won't have the caddy

outside warranty so I've got got it for another 2 1/2 years basically and then it's moving on.

But at this stage I have no idea what I'd replace even if I was to get another one under warranty while I was overseas.

Recently I actually hired one of the current caddies to as a people mover and. I did not like like the fact

that you've got to go into the touch screen for pretty much everything in that car. I've found it really distracting

and and and not a not a good thing so.

Well, economic, is it, you know, having?

Just normal economic at all. Happens to to go up and down and

you just you just want to go fan #1.

When you When you've got the knobs on the dash to turn, you know where they are. You don't even need.

To look. You don't have to look at it.

Yeah. So yeah, I don't know.

What to replace that with? The other car in my garage at

the moment that I've talked a lot at nauseum about is my N1 which when I bought it about nearly three years I've had that car. Now they only came into CVT

automatic and I got exactly the car I wanted thankfully at auction the pin Lipper from Jay spec firm exactly the car I wanted and I I said at the time I wanted a a reversing camera in it because that was an option back then he said what do you want to reversing camera K car for He said you know how hard can it be to see to where the back of the car.

And I knew exactly why I wanted it because my garage at the moment is like a game of Tetris getting cars in and out.

And I can, I can put that in one down the driveway with the reverse camera and park it within centimetres of the car behind it and maximise the space so on every time I've reverse that carry into the garage I'm very glad I got reverse camera.

But at the in late 2020 they updated the model so that car came out very late 2012. So for an 8 year model run in

Japan was pretty extraordinary. They yeah they model cycles

usually four or five years the most but that car ran.

Ideas before an update with the new platform.

Very, very similar styling, just tweaked a little bit, but a totally new platform and the availability of a 6 speed manual. So that would be what I'd swap

here in one for good trip space. Rob, how far do you?

How far do you want me to go? 76 What would your born instead

of your P-76? You know, that would have been a

real hard choice. I did like the signs back then

back in the early 80s, but all the other cars I couldn't really afford. Cars are expensive.

In the grand scheme of things, especially in your first year, Apprentice earning $76 a week and the P-76 was a fantastic price point, I think I paid. $1500 from P-76 back then and

and it was only so that was back in 81.

So it was 7 years old already had fairly low case and I only had about 70 odd 1000 cases on it back then. 1500 bucks.

That's cheap, isn't it? It was real cheap.

No one wanted them in all their cars in their time of over 3 to $5000 already. Back then for something newer.

Yeah. I really couldn't afford

anything better back then so. Mom, I said XDX Falcons like an

ESP. Another one had a scorpion, one

had a V. BE or VC Commodore.

But like I said, every time we used to go somewhere, always going to P-76. More people in it or had better

fuel economy than the Falcon and the Scorpion when we used to drive up to Bathurst. It used to be one of the faster

cars out of them all. It just it was a better car all

around. I don't think I would have had

any choice. I think it would have been a

piece 76 back then. So if they don't just drive,

well, I reckon Pinion, MacPherson, Strut, you know, all that sort of stuff, that monocoque chassis, the crumple zones built into it and they had the Armco type protection crash protection in the doors back then.

So the car was just well and truly and wait handle though it was 5050 weight distribution on a car back in.

Like a BMW. 19707374. And it just, look, my sister had

BMW but an old five series back then and to me that they had like a piece of crap compared to the piece 76, it really did.

And that's saying something because the five series is a pretty good handling car. Hers was an early 5 Series.

It would have been sort of. A early 70s.

Early 70s didn't handle too well.

Didn't like it whatsoever, really.

Got a lot better? Spongy it just.

Yeah, it wasn't the best of cars, so that was that.

And then I had a lot of cars over the years, so.

Sure, I don't know. I pay 76ers for what most of

those times. But when I did when I could

start affording cars, I bought an Excel 7 and I was looking at Mavericks at the time. Mavericks.

I think they were equivalent. Or imagine a Ford.

Is it a massive tribute 4 wheel drive?

That was the. Escape.

Ford Escape. That's the one I was looking at

that isn't. I'm glad I bought the Suzuki.

Cell 7 That was a great car, reliable.

I had it for years and years and my mum ended up.

Taking it after that and she drove it for many years after that. So that was a great car.

So I don't regret again. It was I think the right one.

I I think I picked the right cars for what I needed at that particular time. After that I bought the WRX.

Now and again I don't regret not buying a WRX.

Would have liked to have baby had an Evo to try.

But again Danny Care probably regret I didn't buy was the Maloo Ute when I had the chance to buy Malou instead of the Falcon maybe. The Maloofs worth a lot more.

But apart from that I the cars that I bought I was very happy with and I don't think I would have bought anything else.

Your Mustang. If you if they didn't exist

though, like if AP 76 didn't exist, what would what would you have gone? I think I would have bought a

Commodore like a VHS or whatever VCs LED type Commodore or something like that, something that had pretty good handling and driving. For its time.

Yeah. He said y'all's they're just

barges. They, I reckon they still are

barges. Correct.

Yeah, you know, and even the Holdens, the the, you know, until The Commodores coming out that they, the Holdens weren't all that crash over. No.

No. So but yeah, look, I did like

the look of the X. If Falcon or XE Falcon when they

1st come out with the flu to tail lights sort of that design cues of a Mercedes with the tail lights.

Yeah, but then they'll right? They could look quite nice and

you're even more next door neighbour brought armies brand new XD Falcon back back in in the early days and it was a beautiful car to look at. Yeah, yeah that the column shift

auto bench seat at the front picked up or spec down but no regrets if any of the cars, unfortunately.

Yeah, yeah. I thought the Commodore the the

Miller you that's the only one I.

People going back to the Malibu, but then again, I've still got an XR6 Turbo 50th Anniversary, which is still not a bad car.

Yeah. Yeah, yeah.

So you know, again. But you know the it's probably a

car that probably. I look it probably would.

It would have gone better. I would have handled maybe a bit

better than the Falcon, but not as practical as the Falcon.

So pros and cons. That's it.

Yeah, this was a good topic. I was having a think about this

for a while and I think at the very.

Beginning you wouldn't buy again for sure.

I do, and I'll get to that one. Starts with B and ends in the

M3. Off.

But to begin with, everything was pretty much like.

That's what I was looking for and it sounds weird but.

It was almost meant to be the way everything lined up and you know somehow that car was still there waiting for me as opposed to everyone else that was looking at it.

Somehow it either they didn't get it or something and it was just there waiting for me to get you know, and that's for the 1st 34 I had and same with the black one.

There's a guy there was about to buy it right then on the day and. Didn't have the funds and I said

I do. But then on the spot, you know,

and you had quite a lot of interest in it before, before I got it too. So that's was always meant to be

the GDR was huge. I mean that's still to this day.

Um, he's never who I got it from.

Iron Chef imports. Never seen one that cheap ever,

even during the highlight of their.

Lowest price has never seen one go for that and especially in that colour and everything it was just popped up immediately contacted me, I saw the pictures and we just went straight away, Yep, that's it. And I would say I wasn't, I

wasn't really looking for that long yet.

You know, I only got a few. I reckon it was maybe only a

couple couple weeks of auction sheets coming through.

So that was really quick and kind of meant to be and then when the inevitable happened with that one, I was left with.

Not having a car and I needed a car so I couldn't really import again and that's when I started to go through quite a lot of options. Maddie knows one of them who was

a typhoon aspect. Pretty close to getting one of

those because at the time I was looking mid 30s to high 40s and you easily get one for that money, even just a normal typhoon. Then you could have got for a

lot less, but I thought well forgot it.

The aspect who was up for grabs eventually I got the the EVO.

So I ended up with the Evo 8 Mr. I was looking at Evos for a

little bit too. At the same time there was the

one thing that I've kind of wished I grabbed now.

It was a Porsche 996 Carrera with GT3 body kit on it.

That was for, you know, mid 30s. And that would have been a

cracker car to drive. I think there have been a lot of

fun, so. And I think you'll find one of

those anytime soon for that price.

I was thinking of GTR's again, but then I thought what I just went through, I didn't want to. So I kind of moved away from

that. So that's where I ended up with

the EVO at that point in time. I liked it and things, but there

was just some things that didn't really go well for a daily, but we'll leave that for another discussion.

And then when it came to moving to the next car.

So a lot of looking around. BMW M3.

Yikes, Yikes. Now.

But yeah, at the point I kind of.

Had my eye. On something like that I had a

bit more comfort in that and it was just during time I had really bad back and things like that, so Eva wasn't the best for that. Led towards that or cheaper

again was a C32 AMG, so ended up going the BMW route and then that was a poor decision, but you know we all have them.

Happens, you learn and then it popped up again.

I thought C32 now it was pretty close.

And there was one I was going to to get UM, but it already sold it like pretty quick. I was like, oh, OK Dang.

Sad looking again. And that's when I saw the C43

popper. And then at that time I couldn't

see any C30 twos and I was just like had enough of this M3.

You know it's. It drank my bank account.

I was left with nothing. And you know, it still wasn't

100%. There's still some kind of

slight miss. And you know, he couldn't find

it and it would just pop up just now and again randomly, just doing my head. And I just wanted to get rid of

it. And I hadn't had a V8 yet, so I

was, I was looking at V8, so it was VYI was looking VYSS.

At the time, because I kind of like the VYS, especially without the rear spoiler, something nice and clean about it.

Still like the VY's today, so that was an option too at the time. But yeah, we went for the C43

and didn't regret that. That was a great, great car.

And then I just got bitten again by the performance bug and the GTR bug and I just had to get back into one again.

And during that time the prices, I easily got a 32 GDR.

Wish I could have stretched that budget more and gone 33 GDR, but yeah, at the time I'm 32. Jr that drank a lot of money to

move that along, fairly cheap and that's when I had an option of quite a few cars. But I didn't really have a huge

fund at this point because I'd gone back to uni and budget was pretty small. We're looking at like I think I

had a maximum budget and I mean maximum was probably about nine and a half, 9/9 and 1/2. So pretty low pretty low budget

sales. Looking around I looked at the

they came out it was part of the the Toyota, the Toyota levens that look like the the coupe. The couple.

Ones like like the the living, those are the BZ are like one or something or like it was like a. What they call new.

With the 20 valve thingie, 20 valve.

Yes, yes, yes. Uh, was looking at one of those.

There's a couple of those. They look like a lot of fun.

Great car, can't go wrong. There was looking at that

Subarus, because I always like Subarus.

I had a friend that had a GC8 WRX for a bit and beautiful car.

Always loved him. Fantastic looking GCA, too

expensive, couldn't reach that budget.

And I don't know how I fell upon the liberties.

The B fours couldn't stretch for a manual, so I had to go auto and they kind of still just sitting at the same price.

I think they've just hit the bottom and that's it.

You know, I think I picked mine up for like. 7 1/2 or 8 grand?

Well, at the time for that B4. And yeah, I'm pretty happy with

the decision. I mean, it's been pretty good.

I've barely had to do anything while I haven't had to do anything major. Just your normal fixes in here

and there. But you know, looking at my R31

I've got now, it's worth more than this Subaru.

So much older in this R31 from nowhere.

You know people buying those for like a couple 100 bucks and stuff, now it's worth more than the.

Subaru. And that Subaru used to be worth

close to 70 Grand brand. New They weren't cheap there

before, that's for sure. Yeah.

Still got the original sales documentation and everything to go to go with it. Yeah.

And I think I'm pretty picky at the moment.

In the next car. I just keep changing, chopping

and changing all the time. So I don't think there will be a

change anytime soon because I can't make up my mind.

Alan. Where should I start?

Probably start with the the Falcon.

I actually wanted an A supra and it would have cost me roughly the same amount of money I was talking because I don't begin to talk for about. A little more than 16,000 and

you could buy an A Supras for about year 1415.

Depending on the condition. And that's.

The that's about manual price too.

I think they're about. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

And I was absolutely adamant. But I had certain family members

who, you know, knew otherwise and talked my parents out of it.

Ask to hold grudge with my uncle for that.

No, but OK, I understand the safety and everything else aspect, but this is the same man who drove a Was it legacy?

You can talk about legacy without any insurance, right?

Cool. Because.

They will ensure my my grandpa because they're like, well, they they would they they, they would assume my grandpa, they wouldn't show my uncle. And they're like, if you drive

it, we'll we'll cover the costs and if there's an accident, if your son drives that, we won't, he said.

Well obviously it was Michael was going to drive the car, so he literally drove the car without insurance.

I'm like, if you could take that kind of risk, I'm sure.

I'm sure I can take a risk with an NA supra you.

Know you would have been safe in it, yeah.

Fine. Safe enough and maybe a bit of

Mr Drifter, but that's about it, you know.

But the coolest people are at least.

Unfortunately, that did not pan out, so got the Falcon instead.

There were a couple of superstition had lined up to inspect, but again, you know, family and everything else.

So. Yeah, it worked out the way it

worked out. So you know.

And I'm still disappointed on that.

hundreds were like, you know, 1011 grand.

Hmm, yeah. I was looking at those back

then, too. Are you gonna are you gonna get

a nice twin turbo supra for about, you know roughly 25 to 30 you know for an average one ensuring a cleaner one.

It'll just be a little more than 30.

But yeah that's back in the old days.

I guess you know we we must we mustn't remedies too much then came with the I guess the WRX and again another car is seriously considered at the time was 200 X is actually one of the with the colour. Is a little bit cheaper than I

would have paid for the WRX at. I think it was priced at $9600.

The the big issue there being the one of the insurers out of Amy would not even insure me if I purchased the car they required age 35, which I still haven't reached obviously probably would have found a different insurance company and worked it somehow, someway. I'm sure somebody's going to

ensure young people with cars probably shouldn't be driving, you know for a bit more money than you know what the average premium should cost. That was.

That was definitely a serious consideration of mine.

So I think looking back at it now.

I possibly would have also gone for a similar age, Golf, GTI and manual. So my director was from 2003, so

yeah, same age kind of GTI I probably would have been happy with in manual. The the current kind of

reputation of Golfs obviously is a bit different.

So I'm probably glad and then make that decision and then for the STI. That probably would have been.

A Civic type I don't like, especially the the lovely blue that you had on the not classic Japan.

Not one of those. OK.

Yeah, drive day and that that definitely would have been a good stand up for it for the options and I think the price was relatively similar at least in that.

Vintage. I know the newer ones a little

more expensive, so comparing those two that was definitely a solid option. The Golf are not so much because

again, reputations of of of golf owners.

I'll take the ripping of fat vape reputation of the Subaru owner. But yeah, heaps of people.

Now makes no sense. The, the, the golf farts, not so

much and. The the MX5, I think it's pretty

solid and AW11MR2. That's actually what I first

started looking at when I ended up getting the MX5 Maddie because I really, really loved yours and I thought it would be cool to just have two of the box on my side events and stuff.

The I couldn't find one in a similar price bracket.

Um actually saw him recently. They wanted about 17, but

they're open to swaps for an 86 and I thought if they're open to an 86 I could possibly work work in MX5 into this deal.

But you know, just consider I just spent the money on the MX5 with soft top and everything else.

I'm going to keep it for a little while longer, but an AWD 11MR2 definitely was one of those cars that I think I could swap the DMX rifle and I'd be equally as happy if not some more happy, especially with the lift off oversteer.

Yeah, that's that's really for me, my cars.

You know, just ask them what are you gonna buy Supra?

The new Supra. Yeah, well, the old super.

Give it two more years. What would you go for?

Just the Mark 4, because that's what you always kind of wanted.

Most likely I'd probably end up going for the new one purely because both both prices are ridiculous, I think.

But with the new one, at least you know what you're getting.

You're not going to be kind of, you know, stuck with a cow that has a terrible history, possibly rust, that sort of thing.

Yeah, it's it's a safer option I'd say.

But you know the the allure of the Mark Four is, is still there, there. It's one of those, you know,

dream cars. Tyrone.

When I bought when I when I bought my first car was a 2013 Corolla that was obviously brand new that I bought it.

I was actually looking at Toyota Celicas at that time as well.

And. I did find a nice black one, had

full body kit and everything to it.

But I don't know like I did wanna go for it but then my dad obviously steered me away from it.

He was like, why do you want to go for an old car?

Because obviously he worked at Toyota so you get that discount.

So like why do you want to go for an older one when you can go for a brand new one and you know obviously still get the discount. Obviously it wasn't in the same

price range as the as the Corolla.

I did also like Alan liked the Supra, I did also.

Have I did actually have a thought of of looking at one and obviously us growing in that era of Need for Speed at the game.

So obviously everyone everyone did their yeah did their cars up in there. So I did like the Super as well

at that time but. Unfortunately, I did end up

sitting for a 2013 Corolla. Which I did have for a while and

then obviously got rid of it, but that was the only one that I would probably, when I had to make one, probably change the Ranger. And at that time that I did buy

it. There was nothing that was

better than the range at that time.

Like even though I could get the Hilux with my dad cheaper.

No, I just. I wasn't.

I wasn't going near the Hilux. It just didn't.

I don't know. I didn't didn't look good.

Didn't. And for hearing stories is all

about it. It was just yeah to this the

shocks and stuff for two yeah this.

The suspension wasn't good on the Hilux at that time as well.

So and Navara is always there staying far away from Navarras at that time as well. So yeah just I like the Ranger

and then bought that I didn't nothing.

Nothing really fazes me at that time on what I wanted to buy.

What would change my mind. That was it.

And then yeah then the XR6, FG XR6, October XR6 came along.

Thing when I was looking around, obviously you were there as well. You will say they were looking

at a few cars as well. At this point, like my main

focus was obviously a reliable car.

Something that I can use for a while and and.

If anything did go wrong. It's easy repairable, you know,

cheap, cheap, repairable. So that was my main focus for

this one. I did look at a few that were

there, but this one the only thing that sort of pushed me towards this one, even though it's got like 300 and when I bought it was 305,000 K on it. When I well pushed me towards it

was obviously getting that fog of warranty.

That they they gave, they gave with this car.

So anything, obviously, anything that that can possibly go wrong majorly, I can obviously cover that.

Side of things, but looking at other ones, yes there was.

There were cheaper ones probably that could have could have got but. Could have got even an Orion,

but yeah, it just. And when I buy second hand cars,

I'm I'm very picky, very picky with with cause you don't know the history of it. You know you don't know the

history. I mean someone can tell you so

much but the real history you don't really you don't really know about it and this was actually the first second hand car that I actually bought. Or what other cars will brand

you have never never bought it, never bought a second car so.

Yeah, this is actually the first first one that I've bought.

So yeah, I've had family members by second hand cars and then he's like a couple of years later, you know, there's like black clouds coming out of the back of the car.

But obviously it all depends on how you maintain it as well when you when you do. But you know, if you do keep up,

keep up the work, then it's all good.

But yeah. Future cars, I don't know.

I don't know. There's a lot out there.

There's a lot out there. Would I go back to a forward

drive? Maybe?

If you're buying another Toyota, you got plenty of time to consider because it's probably a two year wait anyway.

I wouldn't buy Taylor again. Oh, well, I can't now anyways,

because my dad's not working anymore.

Alright, funnily enough I went to the driving range because I wanted to work on my. Consistency with the driver and

or watch a little video on YouTube.

And it's all about rhythm with the driver when you're swinging.

So I started swinging forward. It's like the count of three, so

I was like 1-2, three, and that actually helped a lot.

Massive. Swing forward, swing back, and

then swing forward hard and hit. Yes.

So I just started with with the count too and just a little bit forward 123 and I did that a few times and then I started lining it up with the ball, then with the ball there and just a little kind of count in my head of 1 And then I'd go back to three and it just got that perfect motion of with your back swing, that little pause and it increases the club head speed when you come back down to hit it.

There was another little tip that I started to it was to do with. It was kind of to do with the

grip. The grip was fine, but it was

where I guess where your elbow situated.

So instead of me holding, you know, I can't really show you, but. It was kind of where I held the

wrist, but then your elbow here to have it facing outwards, I'd have it inwards. Kind of facing more inwards with

the grip, so it had to be more outwards and it's like you're lifting a dumbbell. So you you end up going like

that. So like, you're holding it.

Yeah, like a dumbbell and lifting up that, like you're doing weights and that's part of your swing up.

So it would be like that, elbow, everything like that, and then come back down. I had it closed in, so if I did

it, I'd be going like this. Instead of like that so.

So, so, so y'all will be two tucked in and won't be getting the full swing. Yeah, and that's when you start

slicing and hooking it and just. Crap shots.

And that's what was happening. It was just sometimes works,

sometimes wouldn't. Someone of consistency and.

Yeah, like every single one was. Pretty much spot on.

Like some of them would go a lot further cause I'd hit it more in the middle, but every single one was more playable.

It wasn't like just hit the ground and spun off or something like that, you know? So yeah, much better.

That tends to cause a bit of a ruckus at the golf range as well. A friend named Tiger told me

about that. I guess when you're rich as him.
