Does professional radio show? Drive.
Automatic Perfection comes in the form of two letters.
Am LTD. Welcome to car talk.
It's Tuesday night. It's me many.
Jay, it online with Scotty. Do Johnson, mr.
Edward Bunting. And mr.
David Prince. How are you gents?
Hello. I'm Matthew, really good.
Thank you, nice. Oh my God.
David David, the first rule, do you think Pete happening, you know, it doesn't sit at the news desk with his phone going off in the middle of the board. Here is the phone going off,
looking to go off again. Don't worry about that.
Apologies, it's all good. Mr. Prince will forgive you this
one time. Some time.
And how are you guys, how are you mr.
Princeton as, as you were a very, very busy man.
Me, how are you? How did the wedding go?
What's happening all in your world?
We had a very fantastic couple of weeks, which has been really good. We younger son got married
Friday week ago, our daughter managed to come in from overseas to be there and my wife and I just had to make sure we didn't get Any nasty little bugs in the Fortnight leading up to the wedding so that we could actually attend their wedding was the third time they'd put it off because of covid.
So it was brilliant. Fantastic night and a great
couple of weeks we've had all their often honeymoons and back safely overseas again. So all that all happened in
Gone, in a whirlwind Lively means that you can spend more time. Now, back to normal car type
activities, Back to catalog. That's right.
It's the more important things of the world.
Let's go. That was a minor bumper
distraction of bump and we're back to the topic of Honda models. Had this what surprised that I
put on Etc? That's right, mr.
Bunting did did bust a move or two of the dance though?
I've got to say with your sister-in-law.
David has quite concerned that I'd have formed.
I'm sort of relationship with his sister-in-law.
I wasn't concerned at all. Absolutely not.
I I just said to someone. Well what I'm really angry for
is an invite to the prince family Christmas, and if the way in the door, well there you go. You guys are related by
marriage. That's not true at all.
Mr. Birthday's over there. He's there.
It's, it's the gift that keeps on giving.
Absolutely, it's the entertainment.
All you need to do is just just put him behind a wall or just just put different voices and you'd there you go.
You've heard the voices. You know, it's not like having
one person. Come along.
It's like having a whole party batter hotter a Go full of people. Coming along, you think it's
like, in my head all day every day.
Speaking of his voice is our play that to him at the before the start of last week, just to stay Ed.
I'm still, you know, curating it and making it all Mickey Mouse, I went to hear it, but, but Edward was quite taken back by the amount of voices, he's done. 10 minutes of footage of just
me, talkin crap. This special features of the
DVD. Release will put that on now.
Yes, yeah, we can talk about the tutoring mentoring.
The Camry to thanks, to you later.
Thank you, Julia. But no mr.
Prince, very, very good that thank you.
It was, we had a great couple of weeks.
Thank you. That's good to hear.
Mr. Bunty how you doing bud? I'm doing well.
We doing car. Appetites hisses.
What yet? You can all keep me accountable.
No more crap. Well Edward I'm running the
mobile Marathon at the end of the year, but I mean I'm done your. You want to be in on it.
How long does it go for its 42? Km actually not great.
You come on, have you not got to have?
Could we do to maybe? Um, well, I I kind of signed up
for it and I didn't look a couple of the guys at work that I like that. I ride my bike with quite often.
They they're like Health kicks, like insane, I can barely keep up with them anymore, they run. They ready to be year.
They like to like Matthew to do this, you're my guest.
Sure. And then I realized it was 42
case and I'm kind of regretting. My decision marathon is always
42 K. That's the standard Merit.
Yeah, I know, I didn't think your I do.
I mean I could do the half marathon but I'm like, you know what? I like my training started.
I didn't last week and I'm trying to do.
I'm working my way up from five to ten case and in 10 minutes you are you running? Yeah.
Absolutely. You're running.
Hmm. Well as I lick the last bits of
chocolate Easter egg off my face, I've that scares me instantly regret. I want to do, however, I've
noticed I can play a full game of basketball without needing to rest, which is, which is, which is fun, so and some things improved, but but Edward, if you're on a health kick you can join me. Okay, well maybe I'll just The
training, but not the marathon. Sounds good.
Maybe your training one, Dave, Scott in.
I'll go watch the sidelines and Chi you want.
I'll have the water bottles in the orange or Serbia.
Gatorade. And I had like a, you can also
pass me a bottle of oxygen because somebody yeah, I'll be the one that's on the on the little motorbike that just scoots along behind to make sure you haven't fallen over ratings.
I'll just do that before you. Can you walk it?
Or do you have to run it? I think you can do me.
No, I'm not, I don't know the full, the full extent, but you know, like, the guys were telling me like that, that they wrote it, like they do it in like, pretty good time.
And I'm like, what are you aiming for?
I'm like, I mean, just survive. I just want to fit in so yeah.
I don't know what I'm so, but October is when I is, when I will meet The the enemy. However, I'll have you guys at
station at certain places. I'll have David you at the
halfway. Halfway point, throw me again,
tried using electrolytes and then Scotty, I'll have you on the Blackboard account that you can do it.
Let's go. Yeah, Lena parents in October,
is that looking towards the end of October, I'm going to double check the date but it did they shut it like the shut that a lot of the city to do it. Like you really on circular Road
and all night insane if you ever tried.
Drive anywhere even remotely normal.
I'll never forget about it. You just traffic called.
Yeah. Yeah.
So that is that's probably my yearly goal I suppose, but it's Sunday. The 2nd of October if you're if
you will know there you go being happy overseas.
Then I might, I might be booking some tickets, you know, and if you can go into, he's now yeah. Baby's dick.
He's definitely all what a shame on them.
I mean, I'm in a different country on our friends wanted to talk about going over. Well they've booked to go over
and I'm thinking yeah I think I'll go as well in september/october for three weeks to do bit of Germany.
Bit of France. No, I wouldn't mind going to
stood guard to see the Benz Museum again because they hadn't seen that and I said, if you haven't been to that, you will enjoy that and Porsches just across town.
That's great. One head, which is in should go
as well. I've been to both but I would I
would go again. And what was the other thing
we're going to do? There's something else
car-related that I thought would be good?
Are the factory tour? If you can do a Benz factory
tour and I've heard that AMG? One is really good.
Mmm, so I have to talk to my friends have done that before but I remember them coming home and and they're not easily impressed because their car, he's already, but they said that bend engine plant in the factory tour was amazing.
They love for Holly. I was just gonna say there's a
brilliant Museum in La Luz to which is just near the border of France and Germany. All have to put that on the
list. Lose its the old shlump
collection. Oh yeah, the slumps here but
it's now it's now called the city to automobile I think and it's a fantastic Museum. Brilliant workshops and
fantastic restaurants and the whole enchilada hundreds and hundreds. Cars down.
Let's go Holly and Rob have been there, just before covid.
So if you want to know, if you ask me questions about it, they're the guys to ask. We did it go this long fun and
now they went to Sadie's and AMG the factory tour thing.
Correct, Scotty. How you doing?
I'm doing quite well, just as I was saying before, the holidays are going way too fast. Already into the last week of
it, so got the official that the land is now ours.
Where is this? Where is in?
Embree Sunny Sunbury. Not far, excellent.
Yep. And that's all sorted.
We got that. Now, it's onto the stage of all
the pre build stuff that has to go through.
So So wall off yet but they're good.
They're keeping us updated on what's Happening.
So so you've got in a dress basically.
Yes, yes, it's a, it's one. Scotty.
You do road? Yeah, Johnson Johnson Boulevard
on the in summary. There we go, Joyce.
I just got the email for the the water, so we're hooked up to the water. So you go start paying bills
already probably. Yeah, knowing the way they were,
that's straight away. Very good night, very good.
Oh, well, given some car updates, Scotty, you've got a big update for us. You may as well start off first,
what's happening in your world? You want me to start off.
So from last week, things have changed, so actually can do the things that I had in mind to get done.
So at the moment, this Subaru is in a workshop, getting a bunch of things done. The list, includes new ball
joints for the front. It's getting the transmission
service is getting the timing belt done is getting the rocker covers done as well. So quite a big list it down.
There's some things on the list but I just said no to it for now. It was no, that's fine.
Now there's like front brake discs and stuff like that, but I can get those on my own and do that myself anyway.
So I left that off. What else did they have on
there? Because I was having trouble
with the stupid temperature gauge where sometimes it would just shoot all the way up to the top.
And I just tap it, and it drops, back down again.
Thanks for watching new in these dense.
I was like, 90 bucks, but all up to get it fitted as well as like 300 bucks. I was like now.
So, So I thought I'd leave that for another time.
Yeah. But yeah, overall.
Yeah. Looking forward to that one.
So it should come under budget on that one.
Which leaves me some extra money to try and get the r31 registered but it doesn't really leave us much time or whatsoever. Mmm.
That's a major problem. So what's going to happen?
School is you're going to drive it tomorrow to Edwards house and adds going to take it to his a his guy.
And these guys will be like, all right, it needs two things.
I want to put on the road fire and induct that's what's going to happen. Hmm.
It is hard to get anything done. And I've got two friends who are
waiting to get into my guy or one was in today.
Bob. Oh Alex.
And my other friend Tom is waiting to get a car in there as well. So it The and they'd both been
bumped back of it so it's tough, you know, they're very busy.
It's hard to get anything sort of.
I mean it I mean we can try but no guarantee.
Yeah, because I had one like the one I called up last week and he didn't even have any opening until at least the 29th of April. Well, the three, the three short
weeks don't help either to the public holidays, definitely.
Yeah, I just need to find a place that's a little bit kind with some things. Compared to the inspection that
I got and all the things that they wanted me to do are you a member of a club yet? Say, I got ya.
You're not sorry. The internet will be funny.
No, no. Not yet.
Well, can I suggest you to look into that?
Because some some clubs do have rules around putting cars on plates, you know, straightaway sort of thing now.
Just go on the video level. The Like Phoenix Club there do a
straight away, okay, that's what there exists for.
You'd they literally and the officers armed and at certain hours, bang, bang, no questions, asked do that?
I hope. Sunbury internet's going to be
better than this at the new house better be.
Hmm. It's they get putting in all new
cables and stuff, so hopefully it should be pretty good.
Sounds good to me. That's what I'm hoping, but the
sooner you have some you car with, with what you're doing to it. Yeah.
Yeah should be all good. I'm looking forward to that.
Get that one back. Would be nice and fresh.
Yeah. Just a couple things to try and
get that are 31, you know, there's some things I don't know if it would be fine or not, I don't know.
Like the I noticed on the other side of the front indicator, there's like a bit of a crack in it.
I don't know. Bail is the last time I don't
even know if it's allowed to have a little crack or not.
So I am I mean, I got away with, I got away with a kraken, my rear indicator on my LTD because one, you can't be if I couldn't find up involvement in, they call just call a quilting, all kind of like they come in. Just let it go.
I guess it depends on who you get, like, the people that you had last time just was like, well let's try and get this guy for every single thing. So that wasn't insane list was a
joke. I don't know.
That's, yeah, that is Mark updates.
What would you want me next time?
Let's go a good. All right, I got a couple.
I went away over Easter with my friend, Tom who has just purchased, we purchase it a few months ago, the 300C a car, which I'm very familiar because I have one as well.
This one, he literally got on Club plates the day we left.
You know, I went Vic roads during the week on his behalf because I had to go there anyway, and that's where the Ori Um, so I did that and got his clock plates acting as an agent.
Anyway, we literally arrived at my house.
We bolted the plates on and then left on our La overnight trip to the countryside and that car it would.
It's always a bit. I don't know.
You always a bit nervous driving a car that hasn't really you don't have any history with you've driven it a couple of times, you don't know what issues is going to have or not have but he had serviced it fully before we left, so he'd done oils filters. De fluid Transmission Service.
You know, he'd be Right through it, which is good.
And I've got to say it drives beautifully, you know, it's done 242,000 case now, but she's not much for one of those Motors, but just smooth, quiet responsive.
It was, it was everything that mine is a really didn't feel that different to drive to mine. Wow.
And it's done 100,000 more case on it, but it's kind of what they're like those cars. You know, 100 200, 300, 400 and
the clock, they sort of feel the same.
Yeah, it's not like they wear out insanely.
So that was great. It really perform beautifully.
We drove it on some dirt roads because the nav took us some ridiculous way out the back of, right.
But that was good, you know, handle the dirt amazingly well, and just a very usable car, you know, so so thoroughly enjoyed that. And one thing we did on that
trip was we did look up a Land Rover for sale.
That was sort of been bright, and in the background of the photo on Marketplace, you could see quite a few other cars in a paddock. And I said to Tom, I reckon this
is the guy River, I go to mount hotham, is this Paddock full of hundreds of cars that you can see from one of the roads down below? But you know, I could never work
out how to get to it. Anyway, I said, I reckon this is
that guy, and it turns out it was.
So he has I reckon literally 350 to 400 cars in one week and kind of everything, you know, a lot of Holden's.
Ford's soubise Masters, couple of Hondas, couple of benzes.
She's wow just everything it. Now some of it's been there a
long time and is pretty rooted fact.
Most of it is but some, some of them hadn't been there that long and didn't look back rooted, but that was great.
Having a what? We didn't end up buying
anything, but we had to wander around there for an hour or so.
Just going. Oh my Lord.
What this? This is what you do when you
have that level of space. Dangerous.
And the guy just rocked up with two new or new to him, Willys Jeeps that he just bought you know, and well he's obviously just a prolific buyer does sell some stuff as well obviously, see the over any sort of for sale but I think only when it suits him and just like buying that.
Was that Yammer? Cranwell what else to do?
My mom comes in the other day over the weekend said, my car's got to be the smell. Ed, you know later on when
you're in the garage stick your head in there and see what you think I was like. Yeah, right, no worries.
So I shoved my head in the front seat and I was like that does stink a bit, you know, and I'm so I'm rifling under the front seats thinking who's left food in there, you know, what's down there and it's not a very old car, you know, don't know that drives it. So I'm thinking it can't be.
It's not like a kid is left a meat pie in there as I opened the boot. My God.
God of nearly knocked me out, so I'm thinking.
All right, we're getting warmer after rifling a bit in the boot.
I found a two liter bottle of milk.
Oh no meaning, therefore I reckon two weeks and it was literally about to explode. It was very bulbous.
So I took that out to the backyard and said, ah this is your culprit mum. So after wiping up a tiny bit of
residue, it was it down in the side pocket you know in the plastic bit of the boot. So it didn't, it didn't affect
anything. I wiped it up and and that'll
that'll come good now. But I was telling that story to
someone and they said, oh we was someone who used to work at a car dealer and they said we had an apprentice who picked up the milk delivery, put it in the boot of a customer's service car but got that they put it there to run around to the front of the dealership or whatever. Customer picks up the car from
service, doesn't check the boot puts it in their garage goes away for two weeks. Back and there were nine, you
know, nine bottles in the crate. They've exploded in the boot and
put like, rant with sour milk through the entire trip, which then took the dealership, thousands of dollars of replacing all the boot lining and doing some special like, you know, soda blasting or cleaning on the metal to get the smell out of it. And it just took hours and hours
and thousands of dollars to put it right again and all because it's The Apprentice, yeah, I'd be surprised.
Go to that, actually, real bad milk is milk, is one of those is the worst two things actually milk and deceased people.
Yes, to seeing others. I had a, I had a customer
because I have an ozone machine that I use as part of my work.
We put that in the car and turn it on and that will get out.
Cigarettes, it'll get a animal. Smells of will get out stale.
Cigarette, cigarette smoke. Whatever it's brilliant and you
can leave it running overnight work that machine.
Well, I do, I could go into a long involved, scientific description and I don't actually know.
Okay, David. If you want to sell anything, we
would probably believe because I've well, okay, here we go.
Just scratch, just edit that bit out ready.
It's actually got an ultra violet.
It's a metal case. With an UltraViolet globe in it.
This sounds like the machine the Ghostbusters use to catch the game. Just like that, just like that.
What did? Colette.
There was a name for that. Look, the flux capacitor that I
did different movie, that different different franchise, different friend. Yeah, there's a, there's a name
for that anyway. Then they, there they are a
thing that the, the fen the fan in, it's got a fan in and it draws the air across the ultraviolet light and that produces ozone. And then, so the smell of the
ozone machine. Create it actually reminds me of
Sold are like at the beach that we are real.
Salty salty, smell of water smell.
It's a really nice smell and then that actually goes.
And then the whole idea is that it's actually neutral.
It's actually back to, you know, feels the enzymes that make a nice hearty cool. It's changing the smell.
That's right. And you put it in the cars and
let the cars run for an hour or so, with the air conditioning on Recycle and it goes right through the ducts and the system, then I turn the car off and just It's the machine on in the car for a couple of hours or overnight, even, you know, and then in the morning, you just open the current but years and years ago. My mum's house was flooded down.
She looked down at the beach and there was a king tide and the house got flooded. She was living there at the time
but the, as part of the insurance, they actually bought in these great big room-sized ozone machines that they sort of we lean and turn on and it does the same thing.
It produces ozone and that Eels the mold spores from the flood.
It's good to know that that's a possibility because you know you hear of smokers, cars in the our God, you never get the smell out but maybe they can be, they can be really hard.
Oh no, I threw it for a whole lot of things that I've got another odor, neutralizing agent that we spray on the fabrics and the carpet and all that sort of thing as well.
There's just throw everything out of but I had one car with that. Had a milk bottle of rolled
under the seat, and they've gone away and Back.
And I had two or three goes at getting that out.
They traded the car in finally. Yes, that's what I said.
I was joking with my brother. I said, I said, if we if that it
exploded throughout the entire boot, I said, that'll be the end of it. We that's right.
That's right. The auctions.
Absolutely shocked and smell and it's the, the enzymes in the milk. That produced that smell as a
sort of Go off base as I tipped it in down the laundry sink.
I was gagging and whole. Yeah, absolutely violent.
Vile vile spell. So the ego when you do your
shopping, check them in. Yes.
Bottle top tip. What we try to do on top of
smells easy thing, it is and they don't know if you've heard of this kind of smoker and he He's wasted his car but you wouldn't be able to tell he uses like the fabric softness set sachets like the like the and he puts on the receipt and I'm like, how does that work here? So you just draws all the smells
to order something. I've no idea why?
But apparently like but he's car does not small at all.
I was like I was like doesn't smell of the session a little bit of a Sashay but but not, it's just like a fabric.
You know? Softness that.
Yeah. I know exactly what you mean
there. Tumble dryers and stuff.
Yeah. And it's just like yeah.
You couldn't tell you was. It was a spy.
Girl, so I haven't heard that but I mean, they're smokers in this smokers, I mean, there are, you know, there are cars, you know, they are to figure out the door through the carpet.
And I mean, when I first started doing what I do, I mean, that was one of the biggest things we repair it with cigarette Burns through Carswell. Now, it's rare to see them.
I mean, people compared to smoking their cars like they used to. That's right compared to you
know, well even 10 years ago but certainly twenty or Twenty or thirty years ago. Yeah just smoke through
everything. But yeah, I mean it's good.
You know, the kind that doesn't smell, but I reckon if someone who and and dealerships, obviously, if they've got a car that does smell of smoke, we try and get rid of it.
But if it's a really hot day or than the cars locked up on the yard for a couple of weeks and stuff, you know, you can open the door and then time, hang on. But they just hope they smell or
to another smoker because they won't even notice it, you know, I could hardly get it. Yeah, that's right.
That's good to know, good to know.
Mr. Prince kind of dance for me. Okay, well the legend Coupe in
between all the, all the all the winning think actually.
Funny thing about the wedding. We actually had a, we had an
S-Class a new S-Class Ben's lined up as a wedding car belonging to made of one of my one of my son's, the cars probably added 10 months old now.
So current shape, you know, gesture can Just you door, opening all, that sort of stuff, absolutely full house, that 350 thousand bucks with the car. Well, that's loose change.
I'll get my checkbook that, but that six months ago, it was only a few months old. It was pinched.
So someone broke into the house, got the keys, still work a.
So, obviously, when they realized what had happened, they could actually disable the car. Now you know you can do
something and it stops the car. Anyway, they found the car.
He was hoping it was written off.
Of course it wasn't when you've got a throne fifty thousand dollars, a couple of the damage done to it to write it off.
So the car was fixed but just as you would expect as not quite been the same since and about a week before the wedding the the car failed to proceed and ended up at the dealership button while they were trying to find the latest electronic Gremlin, that had inflicted it. So, one of my mates has a one of
the very few that I wonder if sold Accord Hybrid.
So the brand current shape Called hybrid.
So, we end up with own Accord Hybrid wedding car, at least it's wife, it looked like wedding car.
And I've got to say it, that was really good.
Not a very attractive car. Not my favorite, Honda by a long
shot to look at, but my goodness to drive, it was brilliant, very good. That it's got the new hybrid
system with the so operates on full Electric in full electric mode for a lot of a lot of the time.
But that was pretty much the last because David told me either using the S-Class and that's it.
Really He is class. No, no, no.
There was a there was an issue. Yep.
Good old. Good old Japanese car at the
rescue. So the legend Coupe that I've
been playing around with a mate from the club.
We thought, we'd sold that back to the original owners who have now said that actually, no, they won't take it, but so that's back on the market. But in the meantime, we had a
current road with you, so we tracked it on Club plate.
So, we're going to take it on a club run on the weekend, it'll probably Sakura picnic actually wore one of the few things wrong with it was the air conditioning wasn't cutting in properly.
Turns out, the compressor actually had a WordPress fitted together at the factory that that seal was leaking and not a ceiling. You can replace so that the my
aircon guide said I'll look at really need to compress that.
You know you want me to try and Source on I said I'll look for them in and we'll wait and see what's happening with the car.
Anyway, we've looked around Fairmont go to Iraq order in America and It was about $140 landed, that's cheap brand new air conditioning compressor for it.
So that goes in Friday. So it'll have should have lovely
working air. Conditioning for the weekend.
Also had a bit of a trip to the couple of trips to the Wreckers.
What? Anything, good.
I did, I did, we've got a dear old elderly friend, who was one of the one of the several people are put into a jazz GE jazz.
The second Jin Jazz. She had a like 2000 Civic, the
50 Civic and was just and she's tiny, and she was just finding a bit hard to manage and couldn't see the corners and all that sort of things. So, few years ago, I said, what
about we look for something smaller.
So we get found in jazz and she's bright yellow James.
So she's been happy as Larry in that.
But over the years it's quite a few little.
Um, we say it's than Elvis. That's what we could say more
hits than Elvis Love Taps. The love Taps, love Taps.
What countless of me, love TAPS in the front one that actually creased the Bonnet and the bumpers had a couple that she chose me, they're not her. If she comes back to the car in
the car park and it's someone's pumped into it in the code, it was like that. So I had I did find her a
mirror. She took the mirror off.
No, someone else took the mirror off at 4:00 Yes, and I did find a yellow one of the Zhang's. I've dragged you too long and
got the mirror for it. A couple weeks ago to these
people. David, I am, I am.
Oh, she's lovely. Lovely friend.
So, and I'm more than happy to help her out.
But when I went to put the mirror and I looked at the front end of thought, oh my goodness. Okay, so I said I should have
had I known. I said it would have looked at
the other bits but I've just looked on Jolly sight the other day and there's an absolutely completely.
Straight bright yellow Jazz Out Of Reach.
Bored. So I hightailed it out there and
grab the Bonnet in the front bar.
So those are. So that'll be a, probably a job
this weekend or next weekend, I'd say what's the bet?
The paint won't quite match. The look a little bit off.
So it's going to be better than what what it is.
I don't mind. If it doesn't quite match, it's
still bright yellow and shiny and yeah, it won't be bent and buckled. Like it is and picked up a blow.
Fan, which I thought was a problem with my one of my son's 04 record not. He was having trouble with that.
That it wasn't actually blowing air out or air conditioning or anything turns out. It's not that.
But so that's actually working. Has that been like that for a
while or a while? Yep.
Yep. Everything is honeymoon.
I said, leave the car with me and I look at it.
I'll put, here we go. But so just drop that down to a
dealer today. Rudy sorry, Rudy.
No no no, John Blair Automotive actually.
Oh yeah. Rudy sorry.
I thought you said pretty. No, no, Freddie.
Rudy, Rudy, Rudy. Yeah, he'll say Rudy's.
Gonna sort it out for me. So John Blair Automotive is that
we used to be jolly Honda but it's like, yeah, but they're still full of text and a couple of absolute gurus.
So they'll have a sort of them in a day or so.
So lovely at all my updates so far.
I think Matthew your updates. Thank you for asking.
Thank you. Nobody cares because I have
driven the match. Everything's this last video.
Like I've I've driven of daily driven, The Merc the last week and Scotty. I like to let you know, there's
nothing to snitch on. It's been, it's been fine.
It has been absolutely fine. I I'll distract him by.
Now, it would have left me stranded, but no, it's going.
We're not disappointed. I know, I know, I know, but I
always like to give you stick to give you something to get to give me crap about, but it's actually, I'm working.
I mean the the to call the sunroof still drops and Carries On a little bit but I just cannot give them give it a push in and he's right. But yeah, it's been troubling
really well. Yeah, obviously been really,
really enjoying getting gigs Island Drive.
Like 14 times last year, perhaps you can bring it to Cars & coffee later, made a do it, fine.
Like I've driven it to Joe long before and I'm doing a few other places and it's been yeah it's it'll I'm sure it'll do.
It'll do it. Fine.
So it's that's a possibility but I might get laughs that with my, with my mediocre paint job on the, on the car.
So drove that drove the MR2 on the weekend as well.
Drove that yeah, Thursday. So Friday Saturday Sunday.
Yeah, really fun to get back in that little car.
The aircon Works beautifully now so I drove it over to to chadstone and and picked up a picked up a thing that I needed and drive back and air-con ice cold and Good couldn't call you.
You guys were busy with like family.
I didn't know I didn't want anybody from Maddy but Ed.
What are you already going? Mate.
Okay and David was spending the last few days a few days with his daughters. I was like no I won't I won't
bust chops and son-in-law and Son of oh yeah he does.
But yeah, so drove that it's been, it's been fine.
The dream, my mom's Camry yesterday to the football.
I went to the football yesterday.
I Don't Really Wanna Talk of the result, but the ogre Hawks LED you to need to. She does a good idea.
What I got when I got on the freeway above like 70 case now because I'm driving through the city didn't really notice it and you know how moms like yeah, whatever likely he's like a bubble in a tire or something. And so it's that that's getting
repaired this week and I'm like, well, Mom, you should have.
That's not a good idea. You know.
That's that's that's not a good thing to be driving, aren't you supposed to like, I know, I know don't, you don't have to tell me twice. So so that's getting Done with
that. But the person that I'm pretty,
pretty good with my vehicle's, at the moment.
Yeah. Not too bad at all.
Which means there's been this point for this.
Evening's topics gentlemen, Neil.
I was, I was working today are according to work and that's people with my new assistant store manager at the store and she's got a 20-17 Tiguan. Which is your first problem?
Yeah. Well, exactly.
Right? Which he bought brand-new,
right? And pretty much just out of
warranty, isn't it? Five years?
Yeah it was three back then, because okay yeah time to go anyway she is like to me it has been the most unreliable bucket of past. She she regrets by it?
She's like she's like she's had issue after issue after issue ECU problems electrical Gremlins.
And now she's like it was it two days ago the Cut it out at the store in the transmission completely corrupted self, the Dual clutch and I'm like yeah that's you get that.
He's on it barely anything. It's it hasn't done that many
and and now she's like I've lost second gear of was 4th gear and I was 6 gear. So I just drive it from first to
third, we can do this David. So she was telling me she was
telling me, you're sorry, I'm back David.
Delete from it. Made his friends got a 20-17
Tiguan. Oh good.
I need. This is why you want me to hear
it. Yeah.
Yeah and it's it's just done its transmission.
But she said issue after issue very bad, she bought a new and now she's like, she's like I want to, I want to replace it and it's out of warranty because it's free.
You weren't, he's did a follow up with the new ones, correct?
So she's going to replace it. Okay.
They're they're slightly different cause she's like, yeah. Like because I'm like well you
know, I mean, the Palisades a nice car but he'll I wouldn't you know I probably wouldn't go for the nav if you're not going to really use it for for those anyway.
What I want to talk about tonight guys is modern cars, you know, like are they just too tricky for their own good?
And is this the reason why like after warranty they just don't last anymore. Like like, okay, I'll I'll
rephrase that in terms of Japanese cars because they say they seem to work. However, you know, a VW that's
not even 10 years old. And it's just, it's just been a
nightmare, but even find these old only barely five.
Yeah, it's true. Like I dealer, I just I just
find it. Is it is an issue of the amount
of tickets in the cars, or is it an issue of just engineering, or is it an issue of other things? Like, like, I just got to
mentioning in the chat earlier, you know, about this and and I think you said me why our BMW so unreliable and expensive and anything that is a great question.
They were great mean that you sent me Medi.
I think earlier today, it was this guy hip socket.
With a beard and the and the crew cuts hair cut.
And and he's looking at a picture of like a knee 90, BMW e92 Coupe, that has all this warning lights on, and he's saying to the BMW. I love you.
And the PMW says, back a little spiritual.
Let me die. Like, I've got every warning.
Light on just leave me. Let me.
No. I mean long II struggle to
Fathom this like it terrifies me about new cars because you know what I mean David and Edward you drove four hundred thousand km, you know Falcons which were fine.
Yeah. It's a car like this.
It's more Tech. It's arguably a lot better built
in a nicer car not even five years old and is just Lately done, it isn't, it's not good. And, and that, that 10, that
terrifies me. Because like, I think, why would
you buy a new car? Like, it's bloody scary
proposition, you know? I mean, like it seems, it's not
like that. Tiguan was not looked after.
No, no, she she service history and things and you're still getting those drummers like, you can't win.
No, it's not that sort of acknowledgement that and you With a lot of dealerships are yes.
It's you know it's the water pump at 55,000 case.
It's the you know, it's just like, oh well you've got to expect that and I think no you don't have to stay, you know, like this. It's not fit for purpose if
these things are going like like at that.
And I think the short answer to your question Maddie is yes.
I think I think a lot of the electronics you've got to say that the actually causing the trouble.
Isn't it really? It's more.
Generally generally things go wrong.
Now it's it's electronic related it's not to say you don't get mechanical things but it's rarer like it's right you know and and it's probably a bit inverse of what happened 50 years ago like 50 years ago you get a lot of flat tires.
You get Pistons through blocks, you get rods through blocks.
You get major mechanical failures, diffs going gearboxes breaking you know like the kind of things you had.
Go wrong in the 1950s and 60s, those things have by and large been pretty much sorted, mechanically, yah, that sense, but it is everything surrounds. It all the other Tron occur.
And this doesn't talk to that and this sensor doesn't talk to Dan says a lot more complex and that seemingly is usually what goes wrong. So I want to honor to that.
Like for example my dad when will the territory within the first six months? You had a bit of a diff wine, it
wasn't an issue is just that you could notice it before, change it on the warranty, never. Never had the issue again, that
was virtually the only fault we ever had with that car.
Yeah, my brother's girlfriend. Buys a brand new Ford Escape,
it's probably three or four years ago now and that had twice the the external pump that does. For the, it's got a name names,
but it's for these to stop start that went twice.
The transmission went, the engine went and this was all that. Like 30,000, An engineer and
she's like, I want a new car and for, to their credit, gave her a brand-new one and she's since been Flawless sense.
Even for the like, this is just a lemon.
We don't know why she's like, they like usually these are pretty good mechanically but like, I mean I get there is a lemon occasionally and that happens with all car companies, I've never heard of a kind enough, not to have a lemon, you however, when it's like bit, like what does a car company like that and it's 10, for example, Land Rover.
You know, can't be car companies that better comes a premium.
Can't make a product that lasts longer than five years.
What the hell is going on? Like, I know, I know people
would say, just do not go near a BMW V8, whatever you do just just stay 10, get to 10 foot poles, attach them together, well, them and be still be still be far away, they could because they've got massive issues. I'm like, how do they engineer
cars to fail? Like this?
Like, what, what is, you know? Is a planned obsolescence?
Is it, is it a whole bunch of other stuff?
Because like, you know, I've got I drive.
You know, like my old cars that, okay, they got issues but like, you know, they're not, they're not this man, they got issues, they got issues, but they're not, they're not this, you know what I mean? Like this.
It's just it just boggles the mind.
Like, I can't, I see, I actually can't fathom.
Hell, how this whistling like, when, for example, getting back to the, my dad's territory is ago, he's like After three years, when he's like, I'll buy the extended warranty just just to be sure he buys it never needs to use it but, you know, everybody's like, oh, you know, just just wanted to be, you know, just what I do. The same thing when I buy a
fridge, you know, and appliances that any other.
But maybe you, maybe you need to know, like, maybe you just like, yeah. Well I'm gonna buy an extender
worry. Oh my God.
Because when I had my 2016 Kenny I definitely hit the 3 year warranty. And yeah.
Would you like to buy the extended warranty and I think it was going to be And a half grand for another two years and it was like Port of credit, you know. Hopefully, I'll be okay, you
know. And I'm really, I didn't buy it
in the end and the only one thing that went out of warranty, they covered half the cost of I think but but yeah I mean extended warranty is a great if you need them but you shouldn't need them differently. Sorry what was speaking to Robin
Harley? We beat the other week.
Now, they bought their daughter run over to Renault, captur is a capture or yeah. Khadgar.
And the and the you see you completely died after like, you know, like 45 years. Like, I don't understand how
this happens. This just and it's and they're
like, I look will cover the part under the inverted commas Goodwill, which is not a, which is not a thing that should be said anymore because I'm them on the new HP laws that doesn't exist. However, Um, because I knew a
triple see. Those is like the car should
last a inverted commas at appropriate time for the product, you know. And so they still the forget the
label, which was like, 400 bucks, whatever.
They said they was said it was a bit like, that's just not good enough. Like what is like that it just
isn't it? And it makes me, makes me
worried for, for the future. Consider me, going electric, you
know, everything, everything is going electric.
Where do we stand on this t? On this issue?
Like, what? Like are we just going to accept
our? Yeah.
You know what the cars completely should itself.
It's Christmas lights everywhere.
It's like, oh, well it is what it is.
It's just, that's the way it goes now.
I'll be going to sit back and accept that are we going to say, hang on a minute, we're paying him.
We're paying arguably more nearer than we have in the present in the past for a product that's less in quality, that's less and reliability, okay, you got more safety features and stuff but I just I think we hit Peak, you know, Automotive mechanical was, you know, about 15 years ago, in terms of level or 10 to 15 years ago and now they just Seemingly adding stuff that's just making things be compromised in my eyes and it just I don't understand. But I don't understand why why I
can't can't last longer than two months out of warranty.
You know, it's really just me, just, it's just not not right?
I think hindsight's a wonderful thing.
As always, you know, you don't every car when then we've said this before, but every car, when the that's new feels pretty good and all the motoring writers Drive in your eye, this is great. That's great.
You really don't know what's a good Motor or what's a good transmission until you know good five, ten years down the track and then you can look back and go that's a kraken car.
This one of the reasons why when you know my dad was going to upgrade his car like let's just get another Pajero you know we know they're good. They've made some years and and
nothing really goes wrong with them.
So and by and large the five that we have in the family, nothing's really gone wrong with them.
Like we've done one starter motor in one and one wheel bearing in the same one at 300,000 came, that's it.
And you go. Right?
No more wear and tear happy too happy to cut that.
If that's hindsight you know that's that's having known that they're around. But anything fresh it really is
a case of suck it and see. And certain brands are better
than others. We know that the Japanese and
the Koreans seem to be a bit better than Europeans but they're not immune. You know, there's always
something with every model. That's a bit of a weak point.
Hmm? And often, it's a silly thing
like like on my mum's Five series.
We had a really good run out of that for 14 years and 188,000 K, but near the start one. Not be the start.
I want to say about 100,000 K. The timing chain was ratley, you
know, so that needed new chat, new chain and new tensioners.
It was the tension is the fail, which are a cheap plastic bullshit part, but to get to the chain and the tension is the motors in backwards. And so you've got to pull the
whole lot out to get to it. So that's the thing.
Is that outing, the four point, two years.
Why did they turn the motors around?
Because it meant that the motor could go on a different angle, which meant that the nose of the car was lower which was better for This trian, you know impacts.
Yeah. So there's always reasons for
these things but, you know, okay.
Don't use such cheap plastic tensioners, you know, that that would help that and you hear that on Volkswagens, all the time, chains and tensioners and things snapping, and you've got to kind of, if you are going to own that stuff, long-term, you really have to factor in, you know, some preventative maintenance with those things that become known just so that.
All right, every hundred thousand I'm going to do the chain tensioners because I know Oh, that there are weak point and yeah, that'll save me blowing the whole thing up.
So you know, but yeah, you don't know that when then, you know, one knows that when, you know, you've really gotta, you really got to suck it and see a bit. But I get that in like an eye on
the same like every car has a vision.
Don't get me wrong. You know, for example, do do you
know they don't build them like they used to the reason down to that, you know, that there's it's harder and harder to make profit out of cars. They will cost cut wherever the
hell they can, they will give you the leanest, the leanest amount of lean, they can get in. With, you know, in terms of
options and electronics and this, and this, and unfortunately, that's not in your best interest if you want to hang onto something long-term, I mean, even David, your wife's Honda, the, you know, CRV 2018 model, not an old car, from a very reputable brand, with a staunch history of reliability. Numerous niggling, little things
is unusual for that brand. So again you know you could you
just got to look back and go well would I buy another one and another one of those man? Maybe not you know, maybe yours
was one of the box maybe every other ones been great.
You sort of just have to. Yeah, there's got to be some
level of trust and, and that's why I love my old stuff because it's just so honest, it's so honest.
Yeah, you know, getting in my, I got in my Honda City over the weekend and, you know, thank took that for a Fang.
I haven't driven that car in months and you.
In order to clicks on the choke a couple of pumps.
It'll start and this is how it behaves, you know, stuff will go wrong with that car but it is is a lot more predictable.
And it's more where and age-related than, you know, Electronics related or cheap materials related.
It's not usually that my issue is whether when the stems from low, however, is I think it's just not good enough, like there are ending Vehicles right, too? To perform and to do things yet.
For example, BMW, I don't think I'm being W tonight a little bit, but they still like, and they well known for like they're plastic cooling systems just failing at 100,000 days or whatever it is. Yeah.
What if you're well known to do that?
Come on. Like, you know, just like how
how hard can it be, you know, just to say, you know what?
Let's just make them middle piece and try to get our name back in the good books. They will because because quite
frankly, it's just, it's just isn't good enough or you're right, it's not. But they, you know?
Yeah, it's obviously, they've got other agendas, you know, they'd rather, you buy another car, they'd rather you stay in that Loop of 34 years, turn it over for another one and, and off you go again. They're not really interested in
you keeping something for 10-15 years and that's why we all Drive old. And as car guys, I think the sad
thing is in In year, 10, 15 years, people aren't going to be restoring the cars from today. I mean, you won't find a lovely
old example and want to, you know, keep it because you know, that if something does go being in the electronics, then it's writes math, you know, like yeah, they so expensive and the motherboards and the all those very quickly become economical, write-offs. Yeah.
You know, you seen that on Plenty of YouTube channels where they'll and you walk around a car like a Range Rover.
With its 12 years old. That looks fantastic.
You know, in the leather and the wood and you think God what a lovely car, but there's fatal things wrong with it underneath.
It just make it economically a write-off.
Yeah, that's what terrifies me like.
I, as you guys know, I would love to buy a new car.
I'd love to get a Fiesta ST or something.
Something like that, something fun and thing, and they ought to be fair, the Fiesta ST. From all the counters are quite
a reliable car, they don't really and that's been around long enough then off. Yeah, you know, we know those
Motors good, we know those cars are pretty good.
I think there's certain things like that.
You'd be pretty safe but it's still terrifies me that would like it's not only to keep you up at night.
There's a little bit like, you know what I mean?
They're like, well, if I was to, you know, to go by and be like, I don't know, you know, I just and I shouldn't have to feel that way and I should be like, it's exactly.
Leave you be pretty safe with that.
But yeah, other things, I mean, in those, this class has this like that example from the wedding, there is a hell of a lot going on in those things. Yeah.
Yeah, I'd be. I'd be concerned.
I think just by following comparison reminds me of a story in the mid-70s when the city can been out long probably to write eight months or so. And there are like six six to
nine month. Did you know weight on it went
from ordering the one if you want.
It's just like now yeah yeah. What that then yeah, 40 years
ago the nearly 50 years ago think we would have gotten better at it by now. You'd think so but there was a
there was a shipment came off the boat and it was stored there on the dock stand in Port Melbourne or South member or somebody in one of those spring storms came through and the holding yard flooded and so there was a whole crop of civics. The Story Goes made, who used to
work at 140 years, told me the story and it was it was over 100, Civics was sitting in this yard and they're all flooded from some, some up to the To the axle, some up to the top of the dashboards. So they saw the waters receded,
they opened the doors drag left them out in the sun for a few days. You know, clean them all up,
detailed them. Stamped a w in front of the VIN
number. It's been water damage, water
damage and sell them cheap. Now can you imagine any
manufacturer trying to do that these days?
You know like even I think if cars get damaged inhale they if the glass is broken and there's any chance that It has got into the cabin of the car, then the cars are right off because they don't want to run the risk of set airbag sensors, or any of the other electronics being water damage down the track, you know, like, having a chemical reaction.
I do, I do really resonate with that.
With, with older cars, just the Simplicity of it, you know, you said analogy, I had my S-Class which was very good and the time I had it and then afterwards, I bought the 190 D.
Not know, I didn't mean to replace it with that car.
It just inadvertently. That's how things happen.
But I'm so much less stressed driving that 190 diesel.
Yeah, I know that the suspension is the suspension and the cruise, you know, this just literally it is all mechanical, there's not. It is barely an electronic thing
in that car other than the radio.
Thank you, Matthew. By the way, that's a current
date, Matthew came around and fitted, the original Becca back into the car for me. So now she's she's running the
original stereo and not that horrible.
It was lovely having Bluetooth streaming.
Teaming with the other stereo, I will admit, but it had such a horrific blue lock backlighting right.
It was so, not in keeping with the rest of the nice Dash in that car, which is a very subtle kind of white Amber glow and everyone who got in the car. And it was only a week ago, my
friend, Nick got in and said he could get rid of that.
Bloody righty of God burning my retina and that was on that you could adjust the dimmer that was on the dim setting of The dimmer. It could even go bright.
It was so that was it for me. I was like right Maddie, you're
on school holidays, come over. It was a bit of a, nightclub,
let's be honest. It was a who know I got.
So now, I drove it last night in the dark, and it was so lovely, being back to normal and it worked.
Yeah, it all works. There is a, it's a bit like
having a simple meal. You know, every Pub has gone
gastronomic strong, you know, Gastro and everyone.
Everyone's Watching MasterChef and My Kitchen Rules and coming up with the most intricate. Appease possible to impress,
their dinner party friends. When a good old rock, Sunday,
roast or I don't know meeting three veg.
Like, if it's done, well, this sort of nothing wrong with it.
And you kind of kind of go oh, we making everything a bit too complex and so that's one reason why?
I like your two cars like the 31, obviously, it's a very simple carpet, but even the before that, wasn't very expensive car back in its day and it was and it was like, it's a still, isn't it to me a nice car, you know, but like that it's not over the top like It has simple Mechanicals.
It's simple electronics. And it still seems to be.
I mean, how many cases done like to over 200 now?
And it seems to be fine. It just needs a couple of
things. Yeah, I'm up to 230 something
thousand and so forth. Yeah, yep, it's designed.
Well, just your normal things, yeah.
Like, a couple points to add on, like I was thinking that, you know, with all this electronics and stuff in the cars.
Now, you think would be easier to track down the problems, but it seems to be harder. But yeah, it takes him a lot
more. They find a problem because you
know, One sensor might set off another three or four senses in the system and completely shut down your whole car.
And you know you can take weeks and weeks while they can kind of change bits and pieces to even find out what it was.
And that is very expensive and very frustrating and you you lose trust in it, you know, you can't know you lose faith that this thing's Gonna Get You. I need to go and like even
though, you know, I've mentioned this before to my friend had that ml with the adblue, you know, it was a turbo diesel and it had the adblue and it's your thing and that would crystallize in the system and the mechanic said, you've got to kind of Chase it right back from where it injects into the cylinders, back to the next sensor. Back to the next, if you replace
all of that, that's 11,000 dollars before you go from the front, to the back of the car, you know, so that they end of disconnecting the whole system which is not legal in terms Divisions. But it wasn't a new car and by
that stage. So, you know it it can become
very, very pricing, once you start playing with those things and it takes a few years and we said this before to it takes a few years for these workarounds or these people in the know to figure this stuff out. So you know, when a car is eight
years old and they've seen a heat through the dealership.
And a few dealership guys, have left and set up their own workshops. And, you know, there is a
there's more expertise around to go.
Are Used to be 10 grand for the deal but we can do it for 2 because this is how you do it. You know, you know they have
that know how they figure out how to boil faster and they know where to look like not my department.
My mate, the be mechanic can turn around 3:20.
Ira 120 I valve stem seal job in about half a day and at nowhere near the dealership cost. So you get one of those.
That's belching smoke. Yeah.
Easy in and out run run sweet as pie.
He knows it. They know what bit today.
Need to know how to get the head off in really quickly, and it's just, it's become a routine thing for them.
Not that you should have to do that.
I'm not condoning that, but it does become a lot more palatable when there's people around, you know, that stuff.
See, I was speaking to run their about the here.
Here a few years ago, he had this, this VW Passat in there and the motor the motor was cooked, so you replace it with a with a, with a recommender with like really low kaise and put it in and basically, Cowboys running, but it said no oil pressure. No pressure.
No pressure. She's like, what is going on
with this car? He called the place of God and
he's like the engine saying, no oil pressure, but in the good like surely not the car was fine when we had it it actually did he complete hitting all these sensors were ended up not being right turns out, one of the sensors, triggered another sensor or some something along those lines that ended up being one damn thing. That was saying.
At the end, you didn't have any oil pressure.
She pulled the motor out again, put another motor.
In it and then the same as you happened.
So he's like he's put two Motors in it because he's like, well, this one's like no giving all pressure and at the car saying it's not getting all pressure and it's and it's causing you to do all other sorts of stuff. And I end up just being a sensor
and he's like the amount of time and weeks and anger and first words and and everything that it took to get that, right?
He's like for what like a you know like a five dollar part at the end of the day it's just it just makes no sense like it's what he's right. Like you can often plug them in
and you know, you can plot run a Scan tool over stuff.
It's an oxy Center or it's an auto transmission Park Center or, you know, they're good at telling you certain things, but when it's another one, telling that one, it does get very, you know, very hard to track. Like, here's one for your
electronic Automotive. Who did, who did fix my Merc,
got it running and stuff. Again you fixed up the mixtures
there, she really nice want you guys, they had this HSV GTO which is like the like told the Taubman our own, a really A scab you is I was a beautiful car. Anyway, the accelerator pedal is
a sensor underneath that. I think you were saying to me
and that's sensor is unique to that car.
Uh-huh. It's not the same as an
aesthetic manaro, it's not the same as anything else.
In the H is B range, it's obsolete, you cannot get it anymore. That car said, knees workshop
for almost a year because he was waiting for another one to be wrecked, so he could get the one that you can get the car was immobile. Life could not drive it.
He's like the car and the car. Would you couldn't?
You couldn't do it. He had to get towed everywhere.
He's like, it's sat in my workshop, just on the corner that undercover waiting waiting waiting, because that was unique to that car obsolete part. And it's just he's like, he's
like it pretty much right off at 80 grand car because you can't you can't use it. It became very became a
paperweight becoming 80,000 dollar paperweight.
I do. I'm hearing these stories don't
from, whenever I'm in a mechanic and something's on the Hoist, I'm always like, what's happening to that one.
I just love hearing those real world.
There were he's like that because it just builds this library of knowledge, you know. Yeah yeah.
See like looking at the car it's like he's like it's a beautiful car is like mechanically if he's a really, really great cars.
He's like, but that is just one of those things that's just unique to that car and it's rendered it useless.
He's like he's like how, how car manufacturer seen.
This is a good idea, it's just interesting, since its Insanity, you know, it becomes a, it becomes just absolute Insanity makes no sense. I really do look forward, I
mean, the good thing with it. Evie's coming.
Is this far less moving Parts. If there's no moving parts
means. If your battery is good and
you've got tires on it, will you good?
Like, like this really very, very little to go wrong and okay you might lose some electronic systems here and there but you know that that might always happen but but really you're not going to you're not going to be doing all this other rubbish you think of the complexity of an internal combustion engine versus a Hebe this My God, I think I think fast forward five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten years and and we'll just think why do we ever get around and V's, you sorry, in, in the combustion engines. You know it'll be, it'll be a
changed World in that regard. Still a bit of a worry, though.
I mean, looking at I'll spell spoke spoke to his house the other week when I want to put up with him and and doing wrong, he says, is freaking phenomenal. And I really loved it.
And he was showing me all these different features and stuff and it just I said to myself in my head I'm like this things that one of the coolest things I've ever seen is a damn cool car.
However, it terrifies me if the autopilot fails, or if this fails, or if that fails because, you know, the whole car is electric, you know, like and and that is and that is, and that mentally in my mechanical. Crappy mind is just terrifying.
It's a bit like a house, you know, that's got electric hot water and when the power goes out you lose your hot water but you still got your gas stove or vice versa.
You know, that's right. I want to have one of me dearly,
so you want to have your EV, you'll have all still have my diesel bins, which will run on veggie oil and keep going.
Well now after everything else has stopped working.
Do you want it? You want to set foot in both
camps and my day-to-day has a first gen Honda Insight and for some time the battery has been various very sad in that so it hasn't been giving any assist at all.
Basically, but it's still drivable this.
It's got a one-litre three-cylinder.
Janet five-speed gearbox. You can still drive it, you
know, without the battery that won't be the case for Evie's.
When the batteries go, all those you know, you've got to do something about it. That's the only previous is, I
mean, you're seeing those with 300 350 thousand case on the clock. Batteries are seem to be pretty
good. I mean, they don't replace them
regularly up that I'm aware of, but still with that fall back, you can replace the cells in them.
I've seen the citizen people do. It and they, and they seem to
be. But regardless, even if they
batteries don't work, they can still draw them in under electron. So, under on the commercial,
yeah, the car still works. It works.
So, it's just like, kind of kind of terrified of me, if it completely stopped, there's a place in and out with Doug.
Does the batteries in the effect?
David's inside, batteries out there at the moment, getting getting really, sorry, I was going to say cycle, but not once that's done, you know, it really puts the car, back to New status. That's right.
That's right. You know you something okay.
Tesla is 10 years old and the batteries are mounted.
And if you do replace them and that will get better and better and cheaper and cheaper. Yeah, yeah.
They'll get more and more places will recycle them and do whatever or replace cells then really.
As long as the rest of the cars in Nice condition, be your back to kind of brand new. So I think resale wise they'll
actually hold up very well because a second or third eye on it can jump into one and go well hey I'm I'm fresh again.
You know? Well.
There's some hi Milo examples, I can States and stuff.
I was reading one the one that did over 300,000 miles or something and Battery was still good, I think.
But the what it like, it was a dual motor one of the motors had failed. Yeah, so they've just put
another motor and it seems as good as gold like, you like it.
I mean it didn't have as much range as it used to.
Yeah, it's still good and I'm like, that's kind of a bonus because you know at the end of the day, the motors would be pretty good if they just. Yeah, I just, they just not much
to go wrong. Yeah.
Yeah. The other, the other interesting
thing with Tesla is you it's all software.
So if there is a glitch or if there is a failure and update you will fix it and give you new features you know.
So it's not the two things that really make cars obsolete are or three things. Probably one mechanical engines
wear out, you know like okay my car's done through 2000, it's got things going wrong. It's worn out and needs a
transmission or something. To the technology is old, I
don't have the latest safety gear, whereas the new car does, I Don't have hit up display, then you cut does.
So that might be a reason to change and three, you know, the fashion element all the styling of it, you know, he's out of date. Ugly something.
I don't like anymore. There's a new one.
I like better, whatever. But if you remove the tech part
and say, well, my Tesla is 10 years old and I can get every Tech updated. So yeah, that's that I want.
Because the hardware is there that that's one thing.
That might mean you stay in an older Tesla if the battery can be replaced, you remove any, any sort of worried about that?
It's like my iPhone if I could Keep this phone and get a new battery rather than getting a new phone will great.
I'll just keep this phone, I don't know you and and The Styling one subjective and what have you but I think that will alleviate the need for a lot of people to jump out of their Tesla's and cars like that because they don't wear out like a traditional internal combustion car wheel but I think that's what tells doing really well.
Like I and we're speaking of the Risen easy spent on the story met on the store on. A podcast many times that, you
know, they do things in that it's updating and it's constantly it's keeping up to Tech and all these old ones are still with the same, the same text same everything.
Yeah, it's all in the car. It just is just updating the
brain of it. The brain actually makes it a
really cool proposition and and I respect his love for doing that. I think that's a thing.
That's kind of cool. It'll be interesting to save
people. Do stay in them more than other
cars or if they they change over you know we're at the end of the day if arm and a leg for the Updates either.
Now you just get him. I think he's getting the free.
Yeah, great. Yeah.
Just gonna compare to back in the days, if you went to dealer to get your GPS system, it was like seven.
Yeah. Are you want the latest Avenue?
BMW $700. I don't know any set of
arguments, not arguments. But, you know, heated
discussions with clients saying like they'd buy a 2014 model in 20, start of 2015. But it would have the The 14
Navin, it and there'd be a new road and they go way home.
I bought it in 15. Why isn't this never updated?
And it's like, well, they never updates only happened once a year in March, but your car was built, November the previous year, get that, well, I should get that free in the troops service department to charge you 700?
And so then there was always interesting discussions around that, you know, do they get it? Do they not get it and we
paying, who's paying for this, you know, Rara owner, having this troubled guy coming to work at, see what's coming to work and see what dream and he was like, he's like all my dealership under the charge me, XYZ for my map update in my car car. What car was ages ago?
Yeah. And he's like, I'm he came and
he bought one of the but another man with the lifetime update maps for like 200 bucks and he's like I'm sort of made doesn't matter, that's right. And and there were things like
tom-toms it back in the time when evidence would show speed cameras and traffic incidents and what have you and the BMW Maps back then didn't and they're like how can a cam?
I haven't dozen car. Not show me where speed cameras
are but this little 200 pieces. Crap nerve Men shows different
systems, different back ends, just how it was.
We had no, there's no work around for it.
Yeah. But yeah, I actually commenter's
along giving the updates are free.
I think that's actually a really good thing.
Yeah, it's computer. We are basically the concept if
you're spending a decent amount of cash and to be fair even to get into a base in to go base models like 58 grams or so Neal, you know, it's that's not that's not Nothing like there's a lot of money and they said, you know what, this, this will get you into into anybody. I think.
I think they'll I'll holidays, you can get everybody into a Tesla. You know, your life's can place
essentially. Not yet.
Not in one yet. No not yet.
Not yet. We'll see.
And we got a quiz Maddie cause you're going to quit.
This guy's got no excuse now because you're on holiday, so you've got Now, eighteen thirty minutes of
the race, one of them actually was because of the main computer inside, it had just failed. Well, just stopped working.
I wouldn't run. Then he got these old.
It's a 20-pound, you know, infant 14 and 15 pounds.
I was getting big getting the absolutes, not being out of them day in day out and they still good.
They look like so much fun if I could get my peas again.
I'll probably get a triple S Pulsar as far as my first car again, that I can. That'll be so much fun.
That would be awesome. Sounds good.
Well, let's get into the quiz. All right, let's go.
We started June, 10. Christians plus some bonus
questions. Let's get into it question. 1

over Alpena. Not the other way around.
Fuck, I don't think that's going to happen.
If it's taking over the company question, not be like Mercedes and AMG. Yeah, pretty much.
Yeah, which is interesting though, because BMW was also got MW. So it's going to be it's gonna
be like a bit of a, I don't know what they're going to do.
It's going to be really interesting.
It's like had the Tesla's fan speed goes up to 11.
Yes. Ramping up to another level.
You can have. They're going to have like M
sport mode, then I'm going to have Alpena ludicrous mode.

Tomorrow gentleman, I really tried to push you guys hard with that with those ones but but well done.
Well done good Queen's banquet quiz.
So yeah, well well done. Well done, Deux chevaux to steam
horsepower is was what it means. I said it and and I'll pain is
different to Alpena. I just jumped the gun on that.
It was so excited to use like it's like a radar.
What's doing the made me win? It's see, it's all about all
about. What's called momentum.
You can have a momentum going into the last couple questions, but momentum Volvo XC60, I think of the last kreisler, it's the center of. Wasn't it built here that the
one that was sold here, the last one, and in the boot, it said, the last bastard. Yeah.
Really. Yeah, they wrote that in the
food. It's like it's like autographed
in the boot. Wow.
Yeah, I sort of magazine article on it.
Once they were actually quite a quick car if you had a 265 in one day because they didn't weigh much, and they were, and they went pretty hard didn't stop.
Didn't turn. But when pretty hot with the
