throw out bearing

Too Afraid to Ask

When you press the clutch pedal, a small wheel called the throw‑out bearing pushes against another part to let the car’s engine stop driving the wheels. If it’s worn or installed wrong, the clutch won’t work properly.

Technical Definition

The throw‑out bearing, also known as the clutch release bearing, is a component inside a manual transmission that allows the clutch to disengage when you press the pedal. It converts the force from the clutch fork into a smooth rotation that separates the engine from the gearbox.
