Damien Duigan, Shannon's Auction Sales Advisor, joins Peter to discuss the history of Shannons, a small insurance company established to insure rare and classic cars. Shannons is synonymous in selling and insuring quality rare and classic cars with the auction house started in 1981 in Melbourne and continues to grow with auction houses in both Sydney and more recently Brisbane. We discuss recent trends in particular the growth in Japanese vehicles and surging prices in Holden cars that no-one saw happening. Damien explains the buying and selling process through Shannons. Peter is joined by Tom the Roving Reporter and Fytos Security as they venture into a factory unit full of some rare Subaru WRX STi's owned by friend of the show Zoran and Garry. The first car is a Type RA with a scoop in the roof and the other is the king of STi's, the 22B coupe, one of 400 built and only a handful currently call Australia home. Guests Zoran and Gary from Enterprise Motors joins Peter Ronis with Tom the Roving Reporter to discuss all things car related from Japan. We look at the height of Japanese motoring from the 1990's and the massive climb in prices for some of the cars from this era. We look at how the auction system in Japan works including the grading system and how one goes about importing cars from Japan, including the process of using brokers and the costs and "red tape" applied by the Australian government. Peter and Halil drive a BMW Z3 M Coupe - 1 of 34 cars delivered to Australia. Commonly known as the "breadvan" or the "clown shoe" the Z3 M was almost a mini M3 with the same engine and rear end thrown into the Z3 convertible. Peter's A35 also fell sick during the week where he found an amplifier in the spot where the spare tyre should be. The boys discuss whether every car in Australia should have a spare. The founder of Galmatic, Eleni Mitakos, joins the podcast. What started out as a book explaining to women basic car maintenance and tips, "Galmatic" was an instant hit selling out of print. 120: I was COVID-19 positive ... and so was I!!!
Peter and Halil reveal that they and their families recently tested positive to COVID-19 and go through their ordeal the last couple of weeks. Peter and Halil thank all our family and friends for their support and praise the staff in the various health departments that assisted during a hard time. Peter sold the Bentley and bought a Ford Capri Turbo. Ross is driving his father's Mercedes B180 and has already arranged a tune.
