Peter and Tom the Roving Reporter meet with Ric Shaw, race driver and race team owner. We look at where it all started for Ric with his first car, a Mazda RX-3. Ric explains how a rotary engine works. Ric talks about racing around the Nurburgring and compares it to Bathurst. We learn how hard it was to drive a Holden Commodore around Bathurst in the 1990's. We look at building a race car with one eye on the rule book and learn how you can get involved in motorsports as both a driver as well as a member of a pit crew. 110: Weekend Driving Crew Wagga Edition
Peter joins the Weekend Driving Crew's expedition to Wagga Wagga. Peter takes his wife's AMG A35 and drives with the Crew's Con and Kat's Audi R8 V10, George and Anna's BMW E90 M3, Chrys and Angela's VW Golf R Mark VI and Tony and Sophie's BMW 120d. Casualties included 2 cracked windscreens and the EFTPOS machine declined Peter's cash at lunch. The trip to Wagga Wagga was a success and planning the next one. 108: Interview with Tom Shaw racing car driver
Peter Ross and Tom the Roving Reporter meet up with Tom Shaw, a young racing car driver currenlty competing in the Mazda RX8 Cup Series, an affordable grass roots level of racing at a national level. Tom is guided by his father and team owner, Ric Shaw Racing, a 30 year veteran in Australian and international sports car racing. Ric explains the cost of racing. Tom guides us through a lap of Bathurst after competing in the recent 6 hour event. We hear about Tom's invitation to test drive a Hyunday TCR race car, the new 2.0 litre class of racing. The boys explore all the hard hitting issues this week including the shortage of chips, used car prices and the Suez Canal blockage. We look at April Fools jokes after VW advertised its new name - Voltswagen. After selling the Passat Peter talks about his new purchase - Porsche 996 911 Turbo S. Halil questions why ute loving Australians are not being satisfied with the super size utes from America. 106: LIVE Drive BMW M3 Competition with Bradford Berry on hands free
The boys are handed the keys to the 2021 BMW M3 Competition and take it for a drive. It's a thumbs up with some caveats - plenty of room inside with all the usual BMW switchgear, the steering is great, the gearbox an improvement over the old DCT but the sound is a little muted. During the drive we test the hands free capabilities with a call to BMW's Bradford Berry. He explains to us that the car is not run in and requires a first service to unlock launch control. 105: Auto Italia with guests Judges Vince Thompson, Joe Quattrochi and Sam Movizzio
Peter and guest host Chris Poulos from Kollector Cars ventured out to Auto Italia Canberra where they interviewed some of the world reknown judges, Vince Thompson, Joe Quattrochi and Sam Movizzio. We find out how the judges dwindled down from 600 cars to the eventual winner. We also learn from Sam, as a member of the International Judges Advisory Group, how he became a preservation judge at Pebble Beach, one of 2 Australian judges to reach such a level. A different era, a different sound that is rarely seen or heard today as the boys commemorate the efforts Holden went to to homologate the humble Holden Commodore to go racing in the Touring Car Championship both in Australia and globally. 103: LIVE Drive Porsche Taycan 4S
David, a listener of the podcast, invited Peter Ross and Halil to drive his Porsche Taycan 4S. We drove it slowly, we drove it quickly and it performed like a Porsche. A surpirse Tesla turned up and the Porsche spoiled the party. Peter performed a launch control start and experienced the change in gears in an electric car. The optional steering wheel feels like alcantara but is made from recyclable fishing wire. During Ross' turn to drive he tails a police car. Peter joins the Weekend Drive Crew on a weekend road trip through the New England and Hunter regions of New South Wales. At the mid way point in Armidale, Peter is joined by some of the crew - Kat, Con, Chris, Gary, Tony and George. Kat is the logistics and route planner of the WDC and explains how the Crew came about. The gang celebrates 100 shows with our closest friends who have supported us including Bradford Berry from BMW, Tom "roving reporter" Dimitrakas, Chris from Kollector Car, my brother George Ronis and Andrew Smyrnis international correspondent. The panel debates the past present and future design language from BMW compared to other European marques. An EV debate caused a kerfuffle - environment v better technology. Peter reminisces about the frist episode how we predicted the demise of Holden. We look at what the second hand car market is doing one year into COVID-19 and look at how hisrotic registration works. Tom "the roving reporter" Dimitrakas joins Peter Ronis in a Porsche 911 993 Turbo in a wedding procession for George Ronis' wedding. The procession includes a Porsche 993 Targa, Porsche 997 Turbo S and the ultimate Porsche 991 GT2 RS Weissach pack. Tom and Peter talk about the different Porsches and we hear the GT2 RS overtake. (Unfortunately the recording ends abruptly as a technical error muffled the rest of the recording and we salvaged what we could)

The boys discuss their Australia Day outings with moderate success for Ross on the boat and Halil at the beach. The X5M is back in for another service and the debat eheats up over warranty claims on modified vehicles. The boys recap the drive in the Defender. Halil sold the Maserati and Peter sees his first Overfinch. We discuss the recent auction results and Halil explains when the last Holden built was not actually the last Holden built!!! Andrew Smyrnis a previous guest from the SEMA Show episodes lets Peter Ronis sit in his Defender for a drive. Andrew and Peter run through all the unique features in this 21st Century generation Defender - from its digital rear view mirror, a tow pack that allows you to lower the Defender for the tow ball to connect, measures the height of wading water around you and allows you to pull out all the rubber mats to clean out your defender with a hose. Peter has spent much of his life immersed in Japanese culture and has recently cultivated his Japanese car collection including an Australian delivered Prince GTB (one of 300 vehicles that came to Australia), Datsun 1600 Coupe, Datsun 240K Australian delivered coupe, Datsun 240Z sourced from Hungary, 1971 Skyline Coupe and also the original Godzilla Z32 GT-R and current R35 GT=R.
