GM Idles EV Production While Boosting Gas Truck Output
General Motors is temporarily idling its Detroit assembly plant that produces electric pickups and SUVs for two weeks while simultaneously boosting overtime at its Flint plant that manufactures gasoline-powered heavy-duty pickup trucks.
The Detroit plant produces the electric GMC Hummer, Chevy Silverado EV, Sierra EV, and Cadillac Escalade IQ, with 1,300 workers temporarily laid off from March 16 to April 13.
"For the next two weeks, GM is going to idle its assembly plant in Detroit that makes electric pickups and SUVs. At the same time, it's going to boost overtime at its plant in Flint that makes gasoline powered heavy duty pickup trucks."
