Love them or hate them. Everyone has an opinion on cars. But we believe we're all one great car away from a car enthusiast. So we're here to help you find a car you love. And let it take us to everything else in life. I'm Todd. I'm Paul. And this is the everyday driver car debate. We're back. Happy Friday. We're back with more podcast because we are rocketing toward the 1,000th. I'm sorry, keep bringing it up, because I can't believe it. 997 is the podcast right now.
The 1,000th at code. In case you haven't heard, I'm not sure where you've been, because it's all we talked about for six months. It's all we thought about for six months. We are going to circuit as the Americas in Austin. We are having a monster road trip down there and a huge road to Taylor the Dragon and other places like Blue Ridge Parkway after it. But in the middle May 31st, June 1st, circuit of the Americas, a two-day amazing track day with hooked on driving it is a low-car count couple of days. And it's almost full, which I'm very excited about. That is an amazing track. I can wait to get back on. So that's happened.
And we are doing the 1,000th podcast while we're there. And then it's a whole new thing, a whole new studio, a whole new, it's a lot of stuff. Yes. See, I'm just worried about where we're doing it, because the top of the tower sounds really cool. And it is. It's very cool. I'm very excited. Except I am afraid of heights. You don't like it. And I do not like them. And it has a glass floor, which I was not aware of until February of this year. It's a partial glass floor. See, I'll be in the last part. You can be in the other part. I am not having that. Yeah.
I'll stand on the glass. I'll get through it. I'll get through it, everyone. It'll be just fine. But, you know, I'm that part. Yeah. It's going to be different. I took a photo because I went up just to check it out when we were there in February. As soon as I looked at it, I took a photo of my feet looking through the glass floor at the van that brought me there. 22 stories below. And the photo made Paul's stomach turn. I'm like, look at my cool photo. He's like, let's not. Okay. Let's just not do that. So I'll be on the glass floor part. You'll be on the rest of it. Yeah. Well, have people up there with us. It's going to be a live podcast live.
I'm very excited about it. That is going on. But it's only one of the events that's happening. We are also doing park city drive days here in July. That is happening. It's actually available right now on the website under the adventures tab. You can come to the park city drive days. Lots of really cool loops of all the really amazing roads that we film in this area. It's going to be really casual, but really fun. That's happening. And we're also doing the bear tooth adventure. My favorite road in North America. We're going back again in September. It's going to be incredible. That's happening. And that doesn't even include Paul's
going to a whole list coming of hooked on driving events. Right. Here we go. HOD is at Hedge Hollow June 13th through the 15th. If you are in the Midwest anywhere near Kansas City. This is a track that the tracking community is starting to hear of. It hasn't been around available to the public that long. It's been a private track for a long time. But it has digital flagging. And it has 20 F one style pic garages, a giant front straight away, huge parking lot area, huge paddock. That is hooked on driving at Hedge Hollow. Look up.
Hedge Hollow on Google Earth. And you'll see it there June 13th through the 15th. Bring your car out. And by the way, that will be the tail end of our big code of monster road trip. And I will be there with our cars on track. We are excited. It's actually on the way home for us back to Salt Lake City.
So we will be there for that weekend. Hope to see you there. Come on out. Check it out. Get your car on track for brand new Midwest region for hooked on driving with Lonnie and Marla Worthington there.
And also Watkins Glen, July 4th weekend is a big one. This is a three day three days on track. Just like Hedge Hollow, it's going to be superb. There's camping. There's fireworks, car shows. It's going to be a massive event and really cool camping all weekend long. So bring the entire family. Get your car on track for the best coaching the best track in the Northeast.
It's going to be superb. I'm kind of bummed. I'm not going to be there because it sounds like an amazing weekend. I can't think of a much better way to spend July 4th than at Watkins Glen racing around that track all day, just enjoying your car as fast as you can go. It isn't racing, but it just sure feels like it. And then fireworks while you're there and a car show and hanging out with car people all weekend. I mean, none of the rest of my family except for my son would do it. But it sounds awesome. I got to be honest. I need to point out the mid Atlantic region, which is new for hooked on driving as well. Devon and his wife
had their run that region there with Ryan as the head coach. Yep. And they are standing up great events. Look at hooked on driving.com and go to our regions tab there. Yeah. And you can find all the cool upcoming events there. And don't forget Pacific Northwest. They're running at the ridge a lot. They're doing Oregon Raceway Park. That's coming up soon. Oregon Raceway Park. Yep. That's coming up Jack Jonathan and bear. They're doing an incredible job transforming the region and they're doing. Yeah, they're having excellent events. So look at the Pacific Northwest region. There's got to be some
thing near you. You're listening and you're wondering, is there something near me? And yes, is my answer. Well, and if there isn't, here's the other part of it. If there isn't, we have a few other franchises available because of other regions of the country that we do want to move into. And that is still an ongoing conversation. But these franchisees we have right now, the reason we were at Coda in February is because we were meeting with everybody, kind of getting everybody on the same page in a way that hasn't happened to hooked on driving before. We're just excited to have this company to build this team. And literally we are going to get to a place where wherever you are listening to this, there's a track near.
Yes, we're very excited. When you need new brakes or want better stopping power, don't just replace those worn out parts, upgrade with power stop. Whether you drive weekend track days with your performance car, tow with your pickup truck, or simply communicate with your truck,

Dennis is writing in. We have to convince his wife, which is a scary prospect for you and I to try to convince someone else's wife of selling her boxer. That's really where we're headed because they had bought fun cars together. They bought in the summer.
I don't need I don't need to sell to me anyway, somebody will buy it in the summer of 2023. They both bought cool used cars for each of them. He got a 2013 Jaguar XFR S and she got a 2005 boxer and they were both in love with them. They were both like the perfect cars for each of them. He likes a little quirky car. She was in love with her boxer, but he works from home. She commutes to the hospital. After a few months, she realized that the boxer while she loves it. It's low and stiff and it was
working well for city driving because it's stick. So she was like, you know, can I start driving your Jaguar to the office essentially to the hospital and he said, look, I work from home. It's awesome. I mean, the boxer is amazing to drive to. So that's great. So that worked out awesome until late last year when the Jaguar was totaled. Dennis, I hope your wife wasn't in it and I hope everyone's okay who was in that accident. We're bummed to hear that. That's really terrible. Hope you're okay. It sounds like everything is seems like everything's all right, but that is really very sad.
So now they have the boxer and she needed a new commute car. So he got a lease on a Hyundai on XVI. He said, it's perfect. And she loves it as her commute car. And the boxer is kind of his car, but it's also, I mean, let's be honest, it was originally her cars why they bought it. And it is now their fun car.
So here's where the dilemma begins and the convincing on our part is supposed to happen. Good luck to us. This year, he decided to try something different because he loves the boxer, but he likes, he likes quirky cars.
He wants something a little bit off beat. So he started shopping. He was going to sell the boxer and go one of two routes.
Pay cash. I know you're going to love this Paul. Pay cash for a 2010 to 2013 Masavradi Quattroporte sport GTS or grand sport. Yes.
Or maybe stretch sell the boxer and get something more expensive. But he also thinks more cool. That is the Alpha Romeo 4C or an Aston Martin DB nine.
The problem is, if you're following the story, Dennis's wife thinks of the boxer as her car.
So both cars they have are her cars. Pretty much. We have her car and we have her boxer that she loves.
So the problem is he has to get her to agree to sell the boxer. What she said so far is the only way she's
willing to sell the boxer is if he gets the Aston Martin DB nine, she's not into the 4C. She doesn't want the Masavradi.
So he's saying, what am I missing? And how do I convince her this is okay? Landmines, rakes.
It's this is a hardwood, Dennis. I'm going to try to weigh it in here, but this is a hard one. Dennis, you said the budget is either 15 to $18,000 or in the case of the 4C up to 40 K,
which gives the game away because you just admitted the only reason that you would be willing to spend 40 K's if it were the 4C.
So it's not a matter of being able to afford it. It's a matter of wanting to afford and those are two very different things.
When somebody says, oh, I can't afford it, they might mean I don't want to afford it. Yes.
And I'm wondering if that's the case right here because 15, 18 keeps things down and that also says to me the boxer stays.
She gets her two cars, the boxer six around and you get something for yourself that she will have to be convinced of.
But if it's really good, maybe she can be willing to sell the boxer and I'm going to try to do that.
Just as a thought exercise. Where I started, I love your choices. I love the offbeat. I love the Mazurada.
That's that's my offbeat weird quirky. You love that so much. Yep. I agree.
But I think maybe mean grand to Rizmo. I hope you mean grand to Rizmo. The the cool either Cabriolay or
yeah, he said Brands Board here. I think he does mean the grand to Rizmo, the cool position. Yeah, yeah.
And he says something more expensive but cool. All right, so I started with Aston Martin.
And this fun exercise is to just select Aston Martin and the brand. Okay. Don't type any model in but
type your price cap. That is a fun. On auto temp as this is a really fun game. I've done this. This is
a really fun game. It's an excellent way to start getting a sense of the market, get a sense of what's
available and what things cost. So that way it'll bring up every model. I started with 18 grand.
What's available for 18 grand from the brand Aston Martin. And then you say, okay, some of those,
some of them because it pulls eBay listings, it will say highest bid. So you'll you'll initially be
super thrilled to be like, I didn't know those were that cheap, but that's where the bid is
currently at because it pulled the info. So some of them have branded titles. You're going to have
to steer clear of those, but maybe not, but I don't think you want a branded title. Anything at
this point, especially if you're spending that kind of money. So you could move yourself on up to
the 25 grand price point. I moved you all the way up to 40 K. Of course you did because that's where
he went. And then I thought, okay, for Aston. And then you can do the same for four C's. And then
you can do the same for Maserati. But then I thought, all right, sound because you're also admitting
sound here is such a big part of the experience. He's saying the Maserati is the car that his wife
wants the least. It's the one he's most intrigued by just because of the sound. It's so good. It
does sound great. I ties into one of our last episodes when we discuss sound. And I believe it will
always be very important, not the fake sound, not the pumped in through your speakers. Not the
we fake to out and aren't you still satisfied? No, it's not the same thing. It just is not true.
I agree with that. So I went looking for the cheapest V12 because sound. Yeah, okay. Yeah.
The problem is most of those V12s were so muffled and muted because they found themselves into
sedans, the XJR, the Mercedes S600, BMW 750s, all those old cars with V12s, cool, but not quite
right. Except for one 1993 Mercedes Benz SL 600 found one in Glendale, California, 61,000 miles
for 17K. You could get a V12 SL Mercedes Benz 60,000 miles, Dennis, for in your budget 17 grand.
There's only one available at that price. Get it now. But it exactly fits and it's a V12.
I mean, that's the reason he's curious about the DB9. I'm sure it's because of the V12 things,
but yes, yes, that's Martin DB9. We don't know what that would be like. I like what you found
there. That's amazing. I love it. Ultimately, I'm going to put it back on you. You're asking us
which, but the way I'm going to help you decide, you and your wife decide is you're going to drive both.
You're going to go drive a Maserati Gran Turismo Cabriolet and you're going to find an
Aston Martin Vantage Cabriolet with V8. They're both V8s. I found so many advantages for
well within your price point. Agreed. There's a ton of them and they're gorgeous and they sound
great. They sound wonderful. But so does the Maserati. That is true. It's true for a compromise.
25 maybe 30. You're not spending 40, but you're spending more. That way, if you decide on the Maserati,
it will get you a better one. Lower miles and a better one. Sure. Yeah.
So you're going to drive both two different metrics, two different tests. One metric is for sound
only. You're going to drive it. You're going to nail the throttle. Both of you are.
Absolutely. Love it. And you're going to giggle like children and you're going to say, okay,
you're going to rate it. You're going to come up with your own rating system. One through 10,
one through 100. I don't care. Invent a rating system. Got it. Got it. And you're going to rate both
cars. And then you're going to drive the cars again. And the second metric is for how it drives.
You're going to try to ignore sound because sound will influence you. But you're going to now
think, okay, could I, could I live with this? Do I like the quality of materials? Low mileage,
long lasting car. You know, it's well kept. Good maintenance records. The usual. And then
you're going to think, do I like how it drives? You might like the Maserati better because Maserati's
do handle exceptionally well. They do, actually, yeah. But so do Aston's. Yeah, they're not bad either.
They're not bad. We're really, we're direct competitors in both good. Yes. So you're going to have
to rate it. And the rating system that you guys come up with, it is the Dennis and Dennis's wife.
You don't know your name. I apologize. Yes. But this is the rating system you're coming up with
and you're going to drive it under both metrics. One for sound, one for how it drives. And I like
that you've already narrowed it down because if I try to sell you a V12, maybe a DB9, while those DB
seven V12s are attainable, but I didn't read good things about them. They were a little too soft.
The DB9s were better, but go for a vantage. If you're spending the money, get a vantage cab.
They're awesome. They're really great. Joy making neighbors weep over the sound.
Totally. They're going to be like, it may be five in the morning, but that does sound good.
But honestly, yeah. You know what? I do need a wake up call. Dennis, could you set your Aston
to start up at five a.m. and just, you know, a couple of cold start like blips will wake me right up.
Then you will know, because this 4C also sounds good, but sounds different than everything else.
But it does sound surprisingly good for someone, as we talked about last time. Yeah.
The problem that I've run into though, the Boxster is a convertible. And if you're looking at
cabs, either Maserati or Aston, you're getting another convertible. So what I'm proposing is,
I don't get the sense, Dennis, that your wife has driven the Boxster very much, especially since you
indicated, she was driving the Jag and then she switched to the Hyundai, the Ionic 6, and likes it.
I don't get the sense she's driving the Boxster much, even though it technically is her car.
Yes. So I am proposing that you sell it, that way increasing your budget, however slightly,
even though you did tell us that it was sold very inexpensively to you through a friend. And I,
maybe you could sell it to me. You don't need another Porsche in the drive. You're fine. Yes.
People toss around the word needs and wants.
Like, there's a shirt circulating right now that says, yes, I do need all these cars.
Speaking of shirts, we have some cool ones on blipship right now. If you haven't seen it,
we just finished with the happiness of head shirt and the coat of shirts. There's more coming,
there's always shirts rotating back through. If there's a shirt from our back line up,
you'd like to come again. Let us know. We'll get it back on there. Sorry. Just maybe think of that.
Okay. So sell the Boxster and you want Maserati sound. Your wife wants an Aston, but then
you don't need two convertibles. The only question you're going to have to ask yourself,
and it's not, do I feel lucky? It's, do you want to drive the Hyundai Ionic 6 when your wife decides,
the Maserati is pretty cool. I'm going to take that to work and blip the throttle and drive
around in third gear through town because you want to. Yeah. She might. Yeah. Because it sounds
pretty amazing. It's Ferrari engine. I mean, it's very cool. Oh my gosh.
It's nice. And the Aston, the way the exhaust is tuned, so good. It's so delightful. The Aston
V8 is one of my all-time favorites in the sound. It really is good. Yeah. Rip that. It's awesome.
Just the crack. It's so good. Easy there. But if she decides, well, you know, that Aston is
pretty cool and she starts to drive the Aston again, then you're stuck with the Hyundai Ionic 6.
See? True. Yeah. And are you okay with that? And if you're not, I guess the Boxster stays,
but you indicated you don't want to drive that Boxster much. I mean, not that you don't like it,
but you're wanting a different experience. He wants something different. He wants a different
new experience and something a little bit less, less normal, if you will, because I mean, Boxers
are out there. And he wants something a little bit more odd ball than that. It just occurred to me.
We're shopping for two cars here. It seems like it, but I don't think they're going to use two cars.
Sell the Boxster. Get yourself the 4C. And Maserati. The cheap, the terrifying one. Yes.
But even those are still, they're, they're low miles. If you find a well taken care of, people
have puttered around in them in some cases or rev them cold because they like this way.
That sounds already for the 4C and 18 for the Maserati. Wow. Look at you. Bob your uncle and
because if he, she might like the Aston, if they get the Aston, she might like it and
she might switch a rule again. She might. And then Dennis is driving the Hyundai. No bad thing.
No bad thing, but it's not what he's looking for. Yeah. Not what he likes. It's not for me. It needs to be
fun. Yeah. For sure. Dennis, this is interesting because first off, we have to walk our way into the
conversation with you and your wife, who I know is now listening. So hello to Dennis's wife.
I'm going to try to walk carefully here because nothing, and I'll say this having been on both
sides of this equation, as a car person, nothing will wear the fun of a car down faster than it being
a car your wife really doesn't like. Okay? Because you, I mean many of you written in with this.
This is a voice of experience. You can't go places in that car because she doesn't want to go. I mean
whatever it is. And the only thing that makes that worse is if the reason you have that car
she doesn't like is because you sold one she did. That's like double whammy. So this is what you're
facing. I understand it, but I want to walk through a few things. First off, the only reason that
you want the Maserati is sound. I sense in your email. And the great handling. And it's got a
record for bad job. But his, but his interest is sound. Maserati shirts. Yes, you can, which,
you know, we all need a Maserati shirt. But, but the key thing here that you're saying is I like
the Maserati for the sound. I, I don't know that that's a good enough reason to buy it. I like
the waycar sound. And you actually like the waycar sound more than I do even, Paul, but I would never
buy a car for sound. I may be weird. Maybe I need to, you know, not have a car guy car as a result,
but I would never buy a car. So if you take a third cat off your mirror is what? Yes, I'm getting
supposedly. I am not supposed to own an mirror. Let's take off a third cat. I heard it again
yesterday. I was at the Lotus dealer getting some stuff and getting the car, you know, oil change
and stuff for a road trip. And they were telling us how many mirrors they've sold, which is a lot,
which I was glad to hear. And like 75% of them would come back to have the third cat release.
And it was all I could do to not yell at the sky. Have these people ever floored their actual one
from the factory? And I guess is probably not. Anyway, side note. Dennis, you were just the
hornets nest. I had to kick. I couldn't. And you saw it. Well, because you saw me cringe
quietly when he said it. Yes, you just kind of flicked your eyes at me like, there we go again.
Here we are. There's three parts of this that you guys need to agree on. First off, the Boxster
is a car you got because she liked it, but she's not driving it. She's driving the ionic. And
that's the right commute car. I totally get why that works. Step one, the Boxster is going
because it's it's usefulness in your life that the time period in which you owned it is ending.
And we talk about this a lot. You don't have to hate a car to get rid of it. You've had a great
experience in the Boxster. I even recommend this to you, Dennis. You and your wife take a weekend
road trip in the Boxster before you sell it. Have like you know, maybe we had that Boxster. We did
that trip. Have that experience. Just take the Boxster somewhere, but the Boxster is going.
And something else is coming because it's going to be predominantly your car because the ionic
is going to be an expert on her car. Here's the key point. The whatever you're going to get next
doesn't have to be long term. We all do this. We all get into this thing where you think the next
car you're going to buy. I mean, I don't do I want that because I mean, what's it going to be like
in five years? No, have ever six months. What you're wanting, Dennis, is a new experience with
the car that doesn't get miles. If you were like, I need to find a new commute car for my wife. This
is very different conversation, but you're talking about the car that whose purpose in your life is
to get a very few miles and to be fun. So if that car needs to change in six months because the one
you buy next isn't right. That's the head space you need to have. Honey, I'm going to try X and if
X doesn't work, we'll move on to something else because it's not actually tied to anything that
is vital in your life. I know money is a thing. I'm aware that money is a real object and you have,
you got to pay the taxes and the insurance. I get it. But cars are on one level, a big purchase,
but on another level, there's something you can move on from. So don't get tied to. We're going
to sell the box that we both like and whatever we get next has to be as good because it might not be
and that's okay because then you can go, yeah, that didn't work. Did it? I mean, if we're trying
things, I know, yeah, easy, easy there. If we're going to take this mindset and Dennis start trying
the various things, but but I think there's an opportunity here because the major way they use
their cars as a commute vehicle and that is handily solved by a least electric vehicle. That sounds
perfect. So let's just sample stuff and that's where I'm headed. The other thing I want to talk about
here is the fact that the thing you would like to stretch the most for is a 4C. The thing she would
like to stretch the most for is an Aston Martin, but I want to rewind back to the beginning of what got
you into fun cars. You, Dennis, got the more GT luxury car and she got the more fun car and the
result was the more fun car wasn't good for the commute. So the car we're replacing shouldn't be
a GT car. It shouldn't be a big Aston Martin DB9. You're replacing the fun chuckable car we take
for the heck of it. You have the commute thing handled. Hence the 4C, that's where the 4C I think
makes more sense, but I have a couple of the things I want you to think about here because
I like the 4C because it is the one that feels like you stayed in the same kind of vehicle as the
boxer but you tried something new and different and it is new and different compared to the boxer.
But because you're debating things like an Aston Martin or a Mazurati, I blended them and there are
two cars I think you absolutely need to drive because they are a blending of what you've liked about
the boxer and the things that you Dennis gravitated toward that made you get that Jaguar and one you've
mentioned Paul, it's the V8 Vantage convertible with a stick shift. That car is sounds amazing, looks great,
it's convertible, it's good to drive on a back road, they do come in stick. It's a smaller car,
smaller form factor. That is everything you like about the boxer, merged with what you liked
about the Jag. It's both of those cars merged together but that brings me to this one, the Jaguar F
type. Yeah, go get one of those. It is an actual merging of everything we're talking about because
you can actually get a stick shift convertible, all of the things it's Jag that gets you a different
experience in the boxer and I'm not even claiming that either of these are you can't see the air quotes
better than the boxer, they're just different. But it's in the same kind of category as what
you're shopping for. So I think those are my two favorite for you but what I want you to look at
is we're going to try a new experience. It doesn't need to be long term a year. Let's get something
different and see how we use it. But before we do that, let's take a really fun trip in the
boxer and then let's move on to something new and try stuff. Dennis, I want to know what you
end up getting. I am really top of our car career list right now. Dennis, you and your wife,
where are you going with this? I agree. I like the 4C for you. There are so many cool things about
it and it is it's very it's the same category as the boxer and very different than the boxer.
All it wants. Watch our original mid-age amounts where we put it with the Cayman and the Elise.
I mean putting it on track is not one of the cool parts of it. It's not what you're going to use
for. But the advantage, yeah. Okay, so have fun shopping for Corvettes and use auto-tempest.com.
So I wish every day when you when you just get it. Nice, very funny. I like it. And let us know
what you get. Topic Tuesday's, car conclusions, car debates, everyday driver tv at gmail.com.

Neville writes in with a variant of the disease. It's an offshoot of the car disease.
Not only does he have the car disease badly, but he may have the extra strain that is BMW blindness.
He's bought BMWs, he's thinking about buying another BMW. He's asking us about BMWs because he and
his wife have reached a place of two drivers for cars. Dennis, I have to apologize because the
through line for Neville's email is a boxer. It was Neville saying that a 99 boxer was sold to him
by a friend and I mistook that for your email. But nevertheless, you still had a boxer and it might
have been sold to a friend. But Neville writes to us because they started with a 2014 BMW 328 i sedan
in a 2025 Subaru Outback. Their son-in-law's car broke down. Since he's young and relatively broke,
they decided to let him drive the BMW while he saved for a car.
Okay. Neville also works from home, so going down to one vehicle wouldn't be a problem in the
short term, but that was very short term. I know I don't need a car, but that BMW left honey,
and did you see this one? Because they soon picked up a 2011 BMW E93 328 convertible.
Got it. Yep. It's got 65,000 miles. No mechanical issues. Flawless inside and out,
which now brings the car count to three cars in total, two are in the driveway.
This is the story I mistook. Neville for Dennis's email, but nevertheless, he's got a boxer now
because a friend of Neville's brought a 99 boxer over and Neville told him if he ever sells it,
Neville wanted right a first refusal. That time came and he gave Neville a deal that he couldn't pass
up, 54,000 miles meticulously cared for, and he wanted six grand. $6,000 for first-gen boxer.
That Neville actually has history with. I've liked this car forever. There's no reason to ever sell it,
because you could make some money. Well, this is his problem. It brought him to four total cars
with three in the driveway. The Porsche, the BMW that they weren't supposed to have because he bought
one while the other one was with his son-in-law, and then the outback. The other BMW is on its way
back because his son-in-law finally said it was enough for a car, which means they're getting the
2014 BMW back, which means four cars in the driveway with two of them driving, and he just said,
this is just two cars too many. It's just four cars in the driveway now. They had four that they
owned and three in the driveway, but now that the son-in-law is bringing the fourth car,
the BMW back, they're going to have four cars in the driveway, two drivers, two cars too many,
but what I find really funny about it is the next two sentences, because you hear this and you
think, okay, we've got two cars in the chopping block. No, we don't. I mean, we need to get rid of two,
but only two specifically because, for reasons we can't explain other than Subaru reasons, the Subaru
is staying. The Subaru is just good. It does. It's Subaru things. I would like to know these reasons.
I would like to know the reasons to be safe. We can't get rid of it. It's practical reasons.
And the Porsche is also staying because he has such a sentimental attachment to it.
So what I find funny is this email starts with BMW blindness, a special strain of the car
disease, and the cars we're keeping are not the BMWs. So anyway, the BMWs are going to have to go,
but they, they're going to see if they can sell both of them and get another car that ticks
some boxes. So what I find funny is four cars for two drivers is entirely too many cars,
but three cars for two drivers is okay. We're not going down to two cars, ladies and gentlemen,
we're going down to three. So we're going to sell two BMWs and get something else, but what happens
is, when he looks at their cars, he realizes that E93, that 328i convertible. He loves it. He just
wishes it was faster. So what if he sells two BMWs and buys a different BMW, which is the E93
which is still convertible, all the things he likes, but now more power, if he sells both of their
BMWs, he could get, guess what, another BMW pretty easily, which brings him back to what happened
to his poor car disease. Why does Neville have BMW blindness? Is there something else he should
consider? Take off the blinders at 25 to 30k. What else plays in the E93 M3 ballpark? And I do
have to say one of the cool things about that version of the M3 convertible is it's a hard top
convertible, which is very cool. So he's curious what our suggestions are. They've got the Boxster,
which is a convertible, and he's talking about getting the E93 convertible. They have convertible
covered. Yeah, they do. I mean, let's be honest, the outback does outback things and it does lumber
and I'm sure off road and all the kind of things that an outback does. And then you have a little
specialized convertible over here. You don't need either of those boxes checked again. I don't think,
but he really would like another BMW. Gosh. Yeah. See, you almost got me into BMW blindness, Neville.
Just reading this because I, here's, here's my line of see the logic. Yeah, for sure. I like what
you're thinking, but then I thought, okay, I'm going to be immune to BMW blindness. I'm going to
start with Dennis' choice, the Aston Martin Vantage Capriolet. Let's just get you one of those.
Still two convertibles. Sounds amazing. It's totally different. Yes, it is. It's not a Porsche,
it's not a Subaru. Agreed. Agreed. But then I thought, okay, we'll sell the Boxster,
but you can't because of the sentimental value. You can make some money, which would increase your
budget, but then the sentimentality creeps back in. And it's not going to be worth that much.
How much do you drive the Boxster? Is there another one you would rather drive more like a 911
Cabriolet? Oh, I see. See, you sold the Boxster, increased your budget, so you go get a 911 cab,
just straight up. Sell the Boxster, both BMWs, you'll have the Subaru and both engines will be the
flat configuration, even though I know you already have the flat configuration with the Boxster and
the Subaru. Actually, I like this. This is good because I like Cab. He goes from four cars to two
cars. Two solves his BMW problem. The Subaru does Subaru things and the 911 does sports car things,
and as a Cabriolet, that's actually correct. I didn't go with it, that's good. And it's a larger
car with that encourage you to drive it more and use it more because I could see the Boxster's
very specialized, sentimental, but it's for just fun car. The 911 is admittedly a bit more practical.
And you could throw more stuff in it and maybe just use it more as a car. A 997 Cab would be
amazing, a 996 Cab would be amazing, yeah. Also, maybe you keep the Boxster and get a fast sedan
or a coupe because you've already got the convertible, early M2 or in 90 M3. Yeah, I think if you get
that close, you're just going to get the convertible though. But then I scrolled back up and you said
your wife would like a fastish sedan. Yeah, fastish. I'll just give you fast. I agree,
if we're going to go, let's just go all the way to fast. It's no more ish. No, this ish stuff.
What's the fastest sedan, Neville, that you can think of? It's going to be slightly above your
budget, but you might really enjoy it into Todd's commentary on the last debate. You're just sampling.
You're just trying a charger Hellcat, buddy. We are trying stuff. Charger Hellcat. I like it.
It's not fastish. It's wicked. It's all the way fast. Yes, it's good. I like it. A hundred percent
fast. That may be the antidote to BMW blindness is a Hellcat. Yes, I was trying to get away because
I agree. Still the eight still sounds amazing. Yes, it does. You've already got the convertible
covered. If you keep the Boxster, I still kind of think the 911 Cab solves the actual problem.
I see what you did. Do you want to keep the Boxster, keep the Subaru, and then get yourself a
charger Hellcat for low cost. Spend $35, spend $40. They've got a lot of miles on them. The ones
that I see in all gets the price. That means they've gone the distance. Everybody's wondering,
wondering, that amount of boost with the metallurgy in the engine did Dodge engineers make longevity
built into this engine too. Clearly they have their robust, they run, they're really fast.
You might really like it. It might open up this side of you that you didn't know was lurking deep
down in because whenever we get something really powerful, that happens to me. It does. You are
much more susceptible. I laugh about it and then I get over it. You're like, should I put one of
these in my garage? This should stay in my driveway. I didn't know I needed this much power.
Some giant truck. Well, TRX is doing it to you. TRX is the thing it doesn't to me. I have no
reason for that. Should I just yank the wheel and take that burn at you? Yes, because I could.
Take that joke, but I totally could. That's okay. 911 cab, Hellcat, charger, sedan,
Neville. What's it going to be? I love this. Neville, I'm going to try to get you away from BMWs.
I know that sounds crazy, but I'm actually going to try to get you away from BMWs, but I have to go
ahead and acknowledge right at front. Your E90 series BMWs are excellent in all forms and I really
like that hard top convertible. So I see why you wound up BMW blind looking at another one
and thinking about the M3 and I also went looking because you're talking about buying a really
nice one. Really nice ones of those are running 3035 grand. An extra nice one is 40. So I use this
as my parameter and I'm going to look around and go right back to where you were Paul and that is
your wife is looking for a fast-ish sedan. Let's look at your driveway. You have the utility
vehicle in a Subaru outback that does Subaru things. You have your dedicated classic convertible sports
car that does all of those things. The middle is a fast sedan. Your wife is right. You don't need
another convertible. You need a fast sedan. Now I know you're going to argue because the E90 convertible
is a hard top. You do fast sedan with that as well. I do see it. But when are you going to put
that down? It's acting like a sedan. When are you going to put the hard top down? Let's let the
boxer be special. Let's let it be the I'd like to take the convertible please. Let's do fast sedan.
Yeah. I have a few I want you to drive. Depending upon how you shop they may be above your budget,
but this is research more than it's buying. I want you to buy to go and drive one of these fast
sedans and see if there is one you'd like to buy. I have four, five. Sorry, because I have to go
here first and I have to admit I was influenced by the car debate before. You could and probably
should go drive the Mazurati Quattroporte in your budget. Totally. Just to go, is that what this is?
I don't think you should buy one. I mean, even if you decide you'd really like what I don't think
you should buy one, but I think you should drive it. The ones you really should drive and seriously
consider are the Audi S5. Oh, that's good. That is a giant fast sedan that is different than
stuff you've had. Yeah. The Porsche Panamera. Fine one at your budget, roughly 40, 45 gram,
that is a used one that's kind of a base model, but I think that car will shock you with how good it is.
A car you're not surprised I'm going to mention the Alpha Julia Quadrifolio. So good.
Imagine that's also all the way fast. Yes, Subaru Outback Alpha Quadrifolio 99 Boxster.
That is a fantastically varied driveway. That's tasty. And you can walk out and really go,
what kind of driving am I doing? That's pretty good. You have all of the option. That's pretty good.
I'm, you know what, we're going to go to the fire road today. Obviously, it's the Outback.
I'm going to take a road trip. I'd like to go quickly and be comfortable. We're taking the Quadrifolio.
You know, there's that great drive we should do at sunset tonight. We're taking the Boxster.
It's very clear. Yeah. That's good. Quadrifolio is my favorite there, but one last one,
because I think it might surprise you. And that is the Acura TLX Type S. It's the two of you.
True. That car's phenomenal to drive. It's going to run forever. It is a unique fast sedan.
It's very fast. It is. It's not quadrifolio fast, but it's close. That's my drive homework for you,
because I think what you need is that middle car that doesn't overlap with either the other two
do. You've got a space in your driveway. Two of you driving three cars, which means you need
three varied cars. And we're going towards Pasadam. All right. Now, well, you have choices.
Thank you for writing. Really appreciate it. Also, we request an update when you decide
and what criteria led you to doing so. We're very curious. Send a photo if you're so inclined
with the three cars that you end up on, unless you buy a 911 cab, and then it's just the two,
and we've had it on the driveway. That is what that really is. You did solve something there.
I am impressed. You got him back to two cars, which you didn't even ask. You would above and beyond.
Paul, well done. I tried. I never tried, but I might have blown your budget a touch in doing so,
but it'll be worth it. Let us know what you get every day driver TV at gmail.com.

Three things that you personally would avoid. I think so. I don't like any of these three things
that much, but I'm going to go there anyway, and I know that some of you are going to actually
love the first of the three, and that is sushi bar. There's three are sushi bar, hotel breakfast buffet,
an office potluck, track daily crush. So what do you have every day? What do you have occasionally?
And what would you never, ever want to have again? This is really where we're going. This is a
variant on track, daily crush. And I am not a sushi fan. I will admit it. There's so many things
that I as a carper, I'm supposed to like, I'm supposed to like watches, I'm supposed to like
sushi. I just, I'm not, I'm not on board. Okay, I'm sorry. So the sushi bar is clearly getting
crushed. Now we have hotel breakfast buffet or office potluck. I'm going to slightly cheat,
and that is I'm going to go with the breakfast we get at the hotels in Germany.
See, the European hotel breakfast buffet is an entirely different thing. Germany's specifically
throws it down. They're delight. The croissants. I know you were going to say croissants just
because you like to say it. I know. At the buffet, the newsly, I know the poached eggs, scrambled eggs,
fried eggs, the potato pancakes, grilled tomatoes, it's superb. The place I'm going here is,
if I can go with hotel breakfast buffet, like that, that is my daily. I will start my day like
that every time, and that means that the occasional office potluck, the thing about the office potluck
is you don't know what you're going to get. Okay, it could be okay. There's there's there's almost
always one dish where you're like, well, that's kind of surprising. But the rest of it, we're like,
run away. Okay, so if it's the occasional office potluck, I can probably find that one dish that's
okay, but don't bring me that every day because that's terrifying. So breakfast buffet every day,
office potluck occasionally and sushi bar never again. On Facebook, Christopher Lot asks for the
thing coming in cars we wish was coming other than cars being lighter, which isn't happening,
that we should all be watching for being excited about. I'm going to give you two things, Christopher.
The first thing is inspired styling. As you know, I need beautiful design. I need to look at cars
daily. I just need to look at cars. You need to see them look at them. This is the car to see
these people. There it is. Most of the stuff from Volkswagen is so uninspired. They're just same when
we went to Europe. We saw the ID seven. I was like, hey, an ID seven. We saw the sedan. We saw the
wagon completely uninspired. Yeah. Skoda Octavius. Skoda. Look much better to my eye. They look great.
Yes. What baffles me is Kupra is a Volkswagen brand. They look great. They look amazing. They look
really cool. They're interesting. They're modern. They're they're flashy a little bit. They look
like they punch above their weight for styling. And we rode in one of Tom. He brought one up from
the Golf R in a better looking body. And it was it was a throwdown. It's got the Golf R engine. Yeah.
In the Kupra. And holy cow. It was fast. Yes. But also it looked superb. Great backseat space.
We really liked it. I think the Kupra brand is the one that should come to North America. Yeah,
like that. Kupra should come here. Volkswagen just everything they're doing is just so completely
uninspired to me. And Kupra feels like the breakout as a result of all of that running gear. Yeah.
Why can't Volkswagen? Hey, design team over at Kupra. Well, maybe it's in the same studio. Like,
what are you guys doing? Let's inject some fun and some beauty into what we're doing over at Volkswagen.
The second thing is the technology that has been tossed around and talked about for years now,
and that is graphene battery technology for EVs, which could, you said lighter. That could be the
catalyst to make light sports cars. The problem is making it at cost, making scaling at cost really
with those things. And there's been a lot of articles. If you start to research graphene batteries,
you'll get your hopes up, but get your hopes down because it's just not available at scale. I read it
on the internet, though, Paul. Isn't that right? I read it on the internet. AI read it to me. Yeah,
right. Yeah, AI summarized it. It's bound to be right. I start reading about that going, this,
this is the tech that we need. Come on, why it's not. It's not available. It's just not. And that
could be the thing that pushes sports cars, lightweight sports cars, but I really do encourage also
having choice and still embracing the V8s for Mercedes Benzes. And they're noticing that's what
their customers want. We talked about at the very high end, people walking away from Ferrari F80s
and choosing the V16 from the tour beyond. Have you read about the V16? Just the amount of
engineering that goes into a V16 is astounding. Choice is best. That's our biggest thing that we
want is choice, choice, choice. And I look, we talked about it on one of the car debates already.
An electric car is a commuter as a fantastic choice. Electric cars have things they do very, very
well. Combustion cars have things they do very, very well. Let's have all of the above available.
I'm all I'm pro hybrid. I'm pro plug-in hybrid. All of the things, please, because I want to have
every person driving a car that exactly matches their needs as a whole point of this podcast.
Speaking of cars that we get don't get accept or boost, Bruce B says on Instagram,
what three cars we see on this trip that we would import to the US on their 25th birthday. I have
two. One is the Lotus Exceeds with the Camry V6. This is the engine in the Amira in the Exceeds
body. The restyle we didn't get here where they put the 400 horsepower supercharged engine in the
back of the Exceeds. So it's a Lotus Elise-sized thing with that engine. Yes, please. It's got a
slightly refined interior. It did not get sold in the US. Yes, please about that. The other one,
and I'm going to say this having not driven it, one of you asked if we driven it yet, and that is
I'm incredibly curious about the Alpine A110. We were hanging out with Tom. He was marveling that we
still haven't driven it. We're going to drive it this summer as part of our Coda series. One of you
has brought one to the US on essentially a Car Vacation Visa. It's really what it is. He's bringing
it to Coda. We're going to get a chance to drive it. I am so excited, but that car just seems to be
everything I'm looking for in a car with the possible exception of a manual transmission. I also have
to say that the biggest endorsement I've heard of the Alpine A110 and Tom's a big one, but the
biggest one I've heard is apparently Gordon Murray Daily's one. I'm thinking if you're Gordon Murray
and you're looking at the pantheon of cars and going, what do I want to drive as a commute vehicle
and you decided Alpine A110? I need to drive that. That's a ringing endorsement. That's a ringing
endorsement. This is a guy that cares about lightweight involvement and steering feel and he picked
the Alpine A110. Okay, let's drive that car. I am excited. I still think it's the car that is
between the Elise and the Cayman that we would both agree on. I think it may be middle ground.
It'll be very curious. Over on Facebook, Kirk Meyer asks, what design features make the OG R8 still
look cool and timeless? Side blade. You just wanted to hear me say side blade. Side blade. Side blade.
Side blade. Cool and timeless feature. Side blades should be implemented across more outies. Let's do
side blades on every car. And he also asks, what is the best and prettiest design car with square
headlights? I was going to say Aston Lagonda, but it's not pretty. It's just striking. Sure. I'm going
with Ferrari F40. Oh, that is good. Rectangular, but they're essentially square headlights. Rectangular
is just right. Ferrari F40. I'll go with you on that. That's a good one. That's a good one. That's
great. Pop-ups make that work. There's a lot of good square lights. There's all the cool
preludes through the 80s. Sure. A lot of pop-up headlights. I love pop-up headlights. First gen golfs
with the square headlights look pretty good. The very first gen golfs look pretty cool. I mean,
they look better when you take them back to the round ones, but the first gen golfs with the squares
wasn't bad. Jeff over on Instagram says, for the McGon that we've had a photo of, and the BMW M240,
do we like one more than the other? Did it depend on the track or the road? The McGon is
forbidden fruit. So it's very fun. Plus the one that that Ron has is the super crazy, you know,
scaffolding in the back race car. McGon. So that is very fun. But I have to say, I drove both the
prior gen two series, and the current gen, the current M240 I all-wheel drive on this trip.
And I don't like the new one. I know we said that when we first drove it, but I was driving it on
track, and I had this conclusion. I drove it on both tracks. I drove it on spot. I drove it on the
ring, and I drove it briefly during kind of a road drive. It doesn't do anything for me. It's very
capable. It's very fast. It handles pretty well. And I, this sounds incredibly spoiled, and I know
that. I stopped taking it out on track. We had access to it, and I just stopped. I was just like,
I'm not enjoying that car enough to spend the rental money to take it out again.
Whatever the opposite of a ringing endorsement is, it was that. Well, but here's the thing,
it's not bad. I just realized I'm paying for every lap, and I'm not enjoying myself enough
to go out again. Yeah. Over on Instagram, our friend Andrew known as Dammit Patton,
asks how you explain to someone that relying on lane keep alerts are not a substitute for proper
lane discipline. Good luck. Andrew, people are using the backup camera and only the backup camera.
Yeah. Andrew, is this somebody close to you? Somebody in your family?
Quite possibly. Andrew understands these systems are pretty good now. No, they're not. But he feels
solely relying on it is a recipe for an incident on the road. You're right. And what it's encouraging,
whoever this person is, it's encouraging them to be lazy. Yes, it is.
To rely on the car system. You're right. And I think the best reminder you can give is the car
is not always right. The system isn't always correct. And I am fighting on all the press cars
that we get. I'm fighting lane keep assist daily, hourly, minute by minute. I fight the system
until I can find the button. Oh, yeah. And then I'm searching for it at the nearest stoplight.
Sometimes I've had to pull over, dive into a menu to turn the stupid thing off because of my
driving. I don't say center lane. And what programmers and engineers don't understand is nobody
drives centered in the lane at all times everywhere all the time. So if you start to drift and you take
the inside part of the lane on a gentle curve, car freaks out. It tries to jerk you back to the
center of the lane. Suddenly, you're fighting it. I am actually finding the system defaulting
on, which is dangerous because people are now going to fight the wheel. So if you see a car weaving,
they might not be on your phone. They might be fighting. I have caught about that. Okay.
All right. Yeah. Yeah. If you see me in a car and the car is weaving, no, I am not drunk. I am
not sleepy. I'm fighting the stupid lane keep assist. And it's really it's it should be an option
to turn on if you want it. Not the other way around. Seth on Facebook says, did we know that there is a
Rinsport dragon rally going to tail of the dragon to be there 24 hours a weekland to be there on
June 5th. And the answer is yes, I am aware you are the second or third person to share that with me.
And this is why we're trying to get there on a weekday, which is apparently in the summer only
slightly less nuts than a weekend. But I expect to see Porsche like crazy around in there. He's asking
if Paul is signing up. I actually think by the time we reach tail of the dragon, Paul might be satisfied.
He might we both. I mean, I've also put myself so kind of we might be like, you know what?
I'm good to go home now because we will have been on the road for two weeks straight. We have so
many great roads. I'm just excited to just drive them all cover them all on camera, cover them in
our cars and other fans cars. We've got an amazing road trip series coming. I can't wait to be on
tail of the dragon. It was important to me to be there on a day that was not Friday Saturday Sunday
because I have only ever been told, oh my gosh, the cars. So I'm sure there'll be an accidental
cars and coffee, but I'm excited to be there either way. And yes, the 9-11s will be coming in
or the Porsches in general will be coming in right behind us because this is the story at the tail
all weekend, all summer. Here they come. Karim K. Talbot on Instagram asks if we became the owner of
Nissan. Who? Thanks to our supporters. If we set up a GoFundMe so we can buy a Nissan. Well,
what I found out about the Nissan fun. Can you imagine? Oh my gosh. Karim, I found out that Nissan
still has $23 billion in the bank. And so losing five billion is a big deal. It's bad. And it's a
big number. But you're holding it a little bit. But they still have a lot of money in the bank.
The problem is they're bleeding cash. It's the burn rate that is so concerned. It's not how much
money they have left. So it's still take quite a bit to get it. He's asking what are the first three
things we would do and selling it is not an option. I would first cut the product line up in half
at least. I would question any tech that is being implemented or being worked on. Is this necessary
currently to sell cars? Is this what the market is asking for? Was this started long ago?
Is this going to sell cars right away? So there would be, first of all, what are things that sell?
And let's continue on with bread and butter. The alternatives of the world that are selling before
them. Yes. I get it. Yeah. I would reconsider the truck even though Frontier is all they make now.
The Titan is gone out of production. Yeah. Yeah. I would reconsider maybe not the Titan name,
but maybe a full size truck. And being late to the game is never a bad thing if you do it better.
True. Yeah. I get that. And trucks sell trucks print money. They do if you get them right. Yep.
The third thing I would do is to give the entire design staff globally,
cart blanch to completely change what people know Nissan's styling to be and start to introduce.
It can't be instantaneously and working a new styling element, a new corporate look into your
product lineup takes time. Yeah. You have to do it model by model. But at this point,
it might be worth doing two or three models and introducing not some crazy concepts,
but something beautiful, interesting, forward looking, Cooper is doing it. Cooper is awesome.
I have an actual design mandate right now that I can think of that Nissan should implement.
No more Chrome Vs in the grill. Yeah. The Chrome V is gone. It needs to go right. It never looks
right. They forced it onto the GTR for a couple of years. It's just no. Chrome V gone. We're picking a
different grill. Agreed. And there should be a sports car offering. Maybe the Z is tabled for
a little while. Maybe a newer lighter, smaller sports cars introduced that could compete against
the Miatas and the GR86s. It's a new 240. Yeah. That people want to drift, that people want to take
to the track. I don't know that at $70,000, the Nismo Z is all of those things. I think it's
still, it's in a weird place in people's minds. It's good, but there's so much choice at that
price point. Yeah. That's a good point. We need to drop it down and revisit such quality,
high quality, great driving and bring back that Nissan racing goodness in something aspirational,
attainable. That's the fourth thing. 23 billion goes fast when we're talking about this kind of
stuff. It goes really fast. And so you'd have to hang on to the things that sell and not try to
reintroduce all those famous brand names. Sure. Half finder, the Xtera, all the stuff that has
streets, skyline, table a bunch of them. Let's not worry about that stuff right now. And really
focus. That's why I'm saying slash the product line up in half. And maybe get rid of the
ultimate, bring the maximum back, but bring it back at the ultimate size and make it beautiful.
The interesting maximum concept that I saw made me throw up on my mouth a little bit. I did not
like it. It did not look compelling and it didn't seem to be any reason to bring that to market.
Why would that sell and compete against anything else when it just looks like
three box recipe? Sure. Yeah. Yeah. It has to be groundbreaking compelling. What I saw
looked pretty production ready. So yeah. Let's not do that. Interesting. Daniel is asking about our
road trip planning of which we have been doing a lot of late because we are planning this monster
road trip. He's saying we're looking at Google Maps for driving routes. Is there a tool to see what
the speed limits are? Essentially you just go down and you walk the road until you find a sign.
But your second question, your question behind the question is, do I worry about it? I do not.
Because if you're in the middle of nowhere, that's what we count on. We count on being in the
middle of nowhere. Speed limits are vital. They are helpful. They guide you for how fast you can
go on the road. But every one of you listening, driving everywhere you're going, the speed limit is a
guide. That is the reason why there's a discussion about, well, officer, I was moving with the flow of
traffic. That is, I mean, that's literally mentioned in like training. My son's going through all this
training right now. The biggest thing is never the speed limit. It's the flow of traffic. If you're in
Houston or LA or any big city I can think of where everyone is going 80 and the speed limit says 60,
you should be going around 80 because it's 60. You're a roadblock. So speed limits are never the
key. I'm always looking for a great squiggle of a road and I sometimes get really geeky and I have
on this trip and I will take the little guy and I will literally walk down the road a few clicks at
a time and just see, is this a good road? Does it have the turnouts? We have been doing this
a long time. What's really funny and I'm very thankful as many of you have sent us good roads we
should do while we're doing this trip. And I am pleased to say most of them are already on the list
and I'm very, very excited. Thank you for all your questions. Really appreciate it. We're always
looking forward to hearing from you via email for topic Tuesday's car conclusions, car debates.
But also your social media questions too. Thank you for for liking and clicking on what we do. We
really, really appreciate it. We're looking forward to podcast one thousand. It is upon us. I cannot
believe it. It's funny. When we tell people that we've been podcasting for a little over a decade,
they're like, oh, wow, that's incredible. But when we tell people we're about to do our one thousandth,
it stops conversations with people that are kind of half-listing. They're like, wait, you've
done how many? Yeah. I guess that's because we all know that person that has a podcast. You can't
see the quotes that has a podcast and they've done like six episodes. They've been at it for years.
And look, I understand it. Obviously doing them regularly is hard. And I respect everybody that's
done anything over a year of consistent podcast is difficult. But I think that is in people's minds.
It's not how long you've been podcasting. It's how consistent have you been. And I've been doing
it for years. Like, good for you. I've done it for a thousand. Like, wait, you've done what now?
I think it's a thousand of anything. So we're excited. Looking forward to next time as always.
And we're looking forward to one thousand. Cheers everyone.
