A lively Auto Off Topic catch-up turns into a real-world wrenching saga: a 2000s Mitsubishi Lancer OZ rally that passed emissions after a bulb fix, then developed slow starts and finally a no-start. After swapping fuel pump, cam/crank-related sensors, and fighting a buried crank sensor behind the timing belt, the culprit ends up being the crank sensor—then it fires back up after priming. The hosts also play “cray-crayed” with wild car listings (including a twin-carb Honda Prelude) and wrap with NASCAR/Darlington and Sebring talk.
This week Brad carries the podcast again with project car updates, and we play our favorite game Craig Craig Don't tell me. Brad once again proves his head is filled with lots of random car facts.

"[38.5s] 1980 Volvo horns what's right man's coolant he's like oh I thought I'd be small it's for a
[45.2s] small car and oh yeah but it's still an automatic transmission they're never gonna be light it's
"
Coolant is the fluid that circulates through an engine to carry heat away and prevent overheating. The segment suggests they’re discussing what coolant is “right” for a particular setup, which matters because the wrong type or mixture can cause poor cooling or corrosion.
"...there's a whole thing before we couldn't get a sticker... because the check engine light burned out yeah..."
The check engine light is a warning light on the dashboard. If it’s on, the car is telling you something is wrong, and if it’s burned out you can miss the warning.
The check engine light is the dashboard warning that indicates the car’s engine control system has detected a fault. In this segment, the light being burned out prevented them from knowing the car had issues until later.
"...there was two boxes in the trunk of O2 sensors so I thought for sure there was going to be problem..."
O2 sensors help the car figure out how much fuel it needs by reading the exhaust. If they’re bad, the car can run poorly and fail emissions tests.
O2 sensors (oxygen sensors) measure exhaust oxygen content so the engine can adjust fuel mixture and help the catalytic converter work efficiently. The owner replaced O2 sensors after buying the car, expecting they might be needed for emissions compliance and proper operation.
"...rather than like take the car apart and like see if the fuel pump will work or how much pressure are going out it was like the $35 we'll just buy a fuel pump so put a fuel pump in the car and the car still no start..."
Fuel pressure is how hard the car is pushing fuel to the engine. If it’s too low, the engine won’t get enough fuel to fire up.
Fuel pressure is how strongly the fuel pump pushes fuel through the fuel system. Low or incorrect fuel pressure can prevent starting even if the car has spark and the injectors are working.
"...rather than like take the car apart and like see if the fuel pump will work or how much pressure are going out it was like the $35 we'll just buy a fuel pump so put a fuel pump in the car and the car still no start okay interesting it did have spark it did have fuel..."
The fuel pump is like the car’s fuel “water pressure.” If it’s not working, the engine can’t get the fuel it needs to start, even if other systems seem fine.
A fuel pump is the component that pressurizes fuel and delivers it to the engine. If it fails, the engine may crank but won’t start because there isn’t enough fuel pressure at the injectors.
"...on an engine spin down I'm like well the only thing left is the crank sensor order the crank sensor had a waiting to go started looking up how to do the crank sensor..."
The crankshaft position sensor (crank sensor) tells the ECU the crank’s rotational position and speed. It’s critical for engine timing; if it fails, many cars will crank but not start.
"...had a waiting to go started looking up how to do the crank sensor which thank you Andrew for finding me the factory service manual online that helped a lot um figured all that out..."
A factory service manual is the manufacturer’s official repair guide with procedures, specifications, and wiring/diagnostic information. Using it helps ensure correct steps—especially for jobs like crank sensor replacement where timing and alignment matter.
"get the wheel off got the requires taking off the alternator belt the power steering belt the power steering bracket [510.2s] the timing belt cover and obviously the crank pulley as well had to go get a special tool"
The timing belt cover is like a shield over the timing belt. You take it off so you can see and work on the belt and timing marks.
The timing belt cover is the protective housing over the timing belt and related components. Removing it gives access to the belt path and timing marks so you can service the belt safely.
"they have a little carport at their house we'll push under the carport get in the shade [500.6s] and we'll start working on this thing so I fought with it for a bit you know get the wheel off got the requires taking off the alternator belt the power steering belt the power steering bracket [510.2s] the timing belt cover and obviously the crank pulley as well had to go get a special tool [526.3s] for taking the crank pulley off because obviously when you turn the crank pulley the whole engine spins which is fun of course Mitsubishi makes a special tool which you can't get but it seems that [542.1s] most modern cars and again Andrew you have more experience of modern cars than I do they have [547.5s] these little dowel holes on the crank pulley"
Dowel holes are small precision holes used to line things up. The special tool pins go into them so the engine doesn’t move while you’re loosening bolts.
Dowel holes are precision locating features on some crank pulleys that accept pins from the correct locking tool. Using the pins in the right holes helps prevent the crankshaft from rotating while you loosen or torque the pulley bolt.
"the one on O'Reilly's was $89 but case the race around the cars apart the parts in stock we're
[796.7s] gonna do it we're not waiting any longer"
O'Reilly's is an auto parts store. People use it to buy replacement parts quickly, especially when you need something the same day.
O'Reilly Auto Parts is a major U.S. retailer for automotive parts, tools, and fluids. In the episode, the speaker compares pricing between O'Reilly's and an online source, which is a common part of DIY repairs.
"waiting for Naomi again kindly to go get
[849.2s] the the tool from Harbor Freight and all those little things but it all in all it wasn't too
[855.4s] bad of a job"
Harbor Freight sells tools for less money than most stores. If you’re doing a repair at home, it’s a common place to grab the one special tool you need.
Harbor Freight is a discount retailer known for affordable tools and shop equipment. The speaker mentions getting a tool there to help remove the crank pulley, highlighting how budget tool runs can enable DIY jobs.
"there's not much left to change except for maybe the ECU so it is what it is but it's
good to go"
The ECU is the car’s computer for the engine. It decides when to spark and inject fuel based on what sensors tell it.
The ECU (engine control unit) is the car’s main computer that uses sensor inputs to control ignition timing, fuel injection, and other engine functions. The speaker mentions possibly replacing the ECU only after confirming the crank sensor-related behavior, since the ECU is a less likely cause when other signals appear normal.
"and it's either the snow tires are junk because they're five years old or it's gonna wheel bearing that needs to be replaced"
Snow tires are tires made to work better in winter. They can feel different from regular tires, so they might affect noises you hear while driving.
Snow tires are designed with softer rubber compounds and tread patterns that grip better in cold, snow, and slush. Because they’re different from summer tires, they can change how road noise and vibrations are perceived, which is why the speakers consider them as a possible cause.
"I'll find out when I switch the summer tires in a couple weeks if it doesn't go away then yeah run to a wheel bearing"
Summer tires are made for warmer weather and don’t work the same way as winter tires. Swapping them can help tell whether the noise is caused by the tires or by something in the wheel.
Summer tires are optimized for warm weather with a harder rubber compound and tread designed for dry/wet grip rather than snow traction. Switching to summer tires is a common diagnostic step to see whether a noise is tire-related or comes from a mechanical component like a wheel bearing.
"...brand new tan soft top matching soft top frame complement the warm custom cream interior..."
A soft top is the fabric roof on a convertible. It can be replaced or refreshed, and it usually comes with a matching frame that supports it.
A soft top is a fabric roof used on convertibles, typically supported by a frame and mechanisms for opening/closing. The segment mentions a “brand new tan soft top” and matching soft top frame, which are common restoration/upgrade items on classic convertibles.
"...new clutch and center force disc 10 inch wide front and 13 inch wide rear rims..."
Centerforce makes performance clutch parts. People buy them when they want a clutch that can handle spirited driving better than the original.
Centerforce is an aftermarket performance clutch and flywheel brand. Their clutches are commonly chosen for improved pedal feel and durability compared with stock parts, especially in enthusiast builds.
"...10 inch wide front and 13 inch wide rear rims to match the wide fender flares..."
Wide fender flares cover and protect the body while allowing wider tires and wheels. They’re often used for stance and clearance, especially on track-focused or heavily modified cars.
"unmolested true blank with all original parts we'll need trunk pans rear quarter panels front fenders doors seem pretty good and vinyl top shows some bumps underneath getting rust details so hard top black vinyl top"
A vinyl top is a cosmetic roof covering that was popular on many classic cars. It’s also a clue for identifying trim and body style, and it can hide rust or water intrusion issues if it’s been neglected.
"unmolested true blank with all original parts we'll need trunk pans rear quarter panels front fenders doors seem pretty good and vinyl top shows some bumps"
Rear quarter panels are the metal sections around the back wheels and rear sides. If they’re rusted or damaged, it can be a bigger job than it sounds.
Rear quarter panels are the body panels behind the rear doors (and around the wheel area). They’re expensive and labor-intensive to repair or replace on classics, and rust here often indicates deeper structural corrosion.
"hard top black vinyl top 40 cubic inch motor four bell carb warwick blue interior with blue yeah warwick blue exterior with blue interior highway headlights"
A “carb” is the part that mixes fuel and air for the engine. On older cars it can need tuning or cleaning, especially if the car has been sitting.
“Carb” is short for carburetor, the fuel-delivery device used on many older engines. Carburetors can be tuned for drivability and power, but they also require maintenance and can be sensitive to fuel quality and storage.
"power antenna rally two wheels uh that's about it i don't know if you can get it from that"
“Rally II” refers to a specific wheel design associated with Pontiac muscle cars. Wheel style is a common authenticity clue because certain wheel options were tied to particular trims and years.
"but that's gonna be a nice garage find car and then it's like needs quarters needs floors needs rock it's like okay the second car looks really good running driving"
This is shorthand for major rust/bodywork areas: “quarters” (rear quarter panels), “floors” (floor pans), and “rock” (rockers—lower body panels). These are among the most expensive and labor-intensive rust repairs on classic cars.
"yeah the highway headlights was also the other clue that made it not a not a firebird but i mean a running driving gto"
Pontiac Firebird is another classic Pontiac model, and here it’s used as a comparison point for identification. The speaker says the headlight clue suggests it’s not a Firebird, reinforcing that the car is likely a GTO/Le Mans instead.
"...you're welcome to stop in at our dealership phoenix corvette center and make an offer..."
This is the dealership name mentioned in the segment. It’s relevant because the seller is offering the car directly through that store, which can matter for how the listing is sourced and serviced.
"[2328.2s] I'll give a few more hints it is front wheel drive okay twin carb front wheel drive five speed manual
[2335.9s] pop-up headlights two plus two coupe configuration
[2345.1s] uh"
Pop-up headlights are headlamps that pivot upward from the front of the car when activated, rather than being fixed in place. This design feature is often used to identify specific models/years and is a recognizable styling cue.
"[2347.9s] all right is it it's Japanese it's not Japanese it is Japanese it is Japanese yeah
[2356.4s] whoa okay yeah uh very very mainstream automaker it's uh
[2367.0s] it's a Honda Prelude yeah after giving you all that info you did get it correct"
A Honda Prelude is a sporty Honda coupe. Here, they’re talking about a specific version of it—one with twin carburetors and front-wheel drive.
The Honda Prelude is a Japanese coupe that was sold in multiple generations with different engines and drivetrains. In this segment, the host identifies it specifically as a Honda Prelude with twin carburetors and front-wheel drive, which helps narrow down the exact variant.
"the new one is only available as a hybrid currently which isn't what the enthusiast wants but if you want to sell a personal coupe in 2026"
A hybrid uses a gas engine and an electric motor together. It’s often more efficient, but some car fans worry it won’t feel as “pure” as a gas-only performance car.
A hybrid powertrain uses both an internal-combustion engine and an electric motor to improve efficiency. In enthusiast circles, hybrids can be controversial because they may change the driving feel and performance focus compared with a traditional gas-only setup.
"if I was looking for a simple daily driver and I had the budget for that kind of car I can't see why I wouldn't buy one for a daily"
A daily driver is the car you use most days for normal driving. The host is saying this Prelude could work for that role even without being a super fast car.
A daily driver is a vehicle used for everyday commuting and errands. The host argues the new Prelude could make sense as a daily driver because it’s accessible and fun to drive, even if it’s not “real fast.”
"this old Prelude ... this car is cool though 146,000 miles so it's not like a a low mile cream buff"
Mileage tells you how much the car has been driven. 146,000 miles usually means it’s been used a lot, so you should expect some wear and maintenance needs.
Mileage is a key ownership metric that affects expected wear items, maintenance history, and overall value. The host uses “146,000 miles” to set expectations that the car isn’t a low-mile collector example, but it may still be in reasonable shape.
"so yeah I I'm a huge fan of anything Virgil Exner um super super cool each designer has like one period of designer that's like super iconic and like I said"
Virgil Exner was a famous car designer. His styling helped define what certain Chrysler cars looked like during a specific era, and enthusiasts remember that “signature” look.
Virgil Exner was a major Chrysler designer known for shaping the look of many late-1950s to early-1960s Chrysler vehicles. When people talk about “iconic design periods,” they’re often referring to designers like Exner whose styling became strongly associated with a brand’s identity.
"all other components are matching and when needed replacement parts installed are oem this blank classic is straight bodied never in an accident"
OEM parts are the same type of parts the car originally used from the factory. The owner is saying that when they replaced things, they tried to keep it as close to original as possible.
OEM means Original Equipment Manufacturer—parts made to the same specifications as what the car came with from the factory. In restoration descriptions, “OEM when needed” is used to signal that replacements were chosen to maintain authenticity and fitment.
"original vin cowl tag intact yeah yeah photos from when it was stored and covered"
The VIN (vehicle identification number) is the car’s unique legal identifier. A “cowl tag” is a manufacturer label typically located on/near the cowl area that can include VIN and build information. Keeping these intact supports authenticity and helps verify the car’s history.
"...they went to darlington race apparently it was not an official throwback weekend..."
Darlington Raceway is a well-known NASCAR track. The speaker is talking about a NASCAR race that happened there.
Darlington Raceway is a famous NASCAR track known for its unique layout and high-speed racing. The speaker references a race there as part of discussing the weekend’s NASCAR action.
"how about sebring sebring was pretty cool 12 hours sebring i forgot about that i watched [3640.2s] last few hours"
Sebring is a famous long-distance race—12 hours. Because different types of race cars compete at the same time, the final laps can be especially intense.
Sebring refers to the 12 Hours of Sebring, a famous endurance race held at Sebring International Raceway. It features multiple classes running simultaneously, so the “last laps” can be chaotic as faster prototypes chase the lead while navigating slower traffic.

One thousand cars sir you have a thousand cars I don't think I'd attempt to try this
stunt or we owe this horsepower to Uncle Sam's too big a car like I put my beer belly on
it you can't immediately tell somebody how many cars you have you'll really give those
up in a yuffy something to think about stay on the bar don't go off the bar with your Bronco
1980 Volvo horns what's right man's coolant he's like oh I thought I'd be small it's for a
small car and oh yeah but it's still an automatic transmission they're never gonna be light it's
definitely gonna have to crash starting off with Brad by another car that's the west
internet she knows this is Nigerian oil print I also wish you drove a tan Camry anyways
that's a very horrible podcast content very inside just love to be driven hard
look to a lot of topic how are you Brad Andrew I am wonderful just realizing that I don't have
my headphones turned on and I can hear you through the speaker oh okay there's no feedback
no I think it was fine I didn't hear anything excellent you even got me on the while he came
through your speakers so this was right what do you get going on out there anything because I
got nothing another week of nothing I've been really slacken with car stuff except for the
little cars but that is unfortunate to hear I've done some stuff a lot of stuff not nearly as much
as I would like to have done but also you can't really beat yourself up too bad because normally
we record on Thursday and today's Tuesday so you've only had four days since we last recorded
technically so I don't think that you could beat yourself up too bad about doing nothing for a week
because you can't I will fill in the hole how's that so I have okay sure I have done some things
I do not remember if I discussed it at all or not but did I talk about the Lancer on here
you didn't you didn't cover fixing it the other week after the podcast we're like oh I forgot
to talk about fixing that because it is kind of interesting it's been a bit of a battle so how'd
that get fast has been a bit of a battle so not my car I do not have a Lancer there's not I mean
I do have a Lancer I have a 78 Colt which is a Lancer but there's no like secret car here we're
not talking about this car belongs to Naomi's daughter's boyfriend Roberto I talked about his
Jetta on here before this is his Lancer that we get bought to replace the Jetta because the Jetta
never mind very long story anyway I thought and figured that buying a 2000 and to the full 405
things no for Lancer OZ rally with the 2.0 liter would be a very simple car a very reliable car
and one that we didn't have to worry about too much well about two weeks ago he started having
problems where it would start slowly I don't know if I talked about the whole thing with
emissions in the past before either but there's a whole thing before we couldn't get a sticker
no sticker a we couldn't get through emissions because the check engine light burned out yeah
and I don't think ever updated us that you did replace it the bulb yes I did replace the bulb
so it was just a lot of past yeah it was just a bulb they went through emissions there was no
problems everything is hunky dory ready to go so it did require but I bought the car they were
two boxes in the trunk of O2 sensors so I thought for sure there was going to be problem where it
was following O2 sensors and I looked up how much a catalytic converter was before even bought the
car and it was you know less than a hundred bucks online so I went into it knowing you would probably
need O2 sensors a cat which it did so we did that got the codes all cleared went to get a sticker
couldn't get a sticker because the bulb wouldn't light up they wouldn't even plug in the thing to
figure out what was going on anyway hold the cluster apart put a bulb in it the car is now
legally registered plated the whole nine yards so that's good but it no started the other day
after had started by doing a like slow crank in the morning and it acted almost like an
old carbureted car like if he gave a little gas it would eventually fire up which is probably not
ideal because it's not an old carbureted car so we gotta figure out why it's doing this
so you get on the road of what would cause this problem the easiest thing is you check for
you know fuel spark air it's car right go do one of those things uh there was fuel getting to it
but we weren't clear on the pressure and one of the things we thought was that because it was
starting slow in the morning maybe the fuel pump was starting to die and the fuel pump
finally just died so I looked up what a fuel pump cost they were like $35 I was like let's
put a fuel pump in it it is what it is there's no codes so I think we can really read so rather
than like take the car apart and like see if the fuel pump will work or how much pressure
are going out it was like the $35 we'll just buy a fuel pump so put a fuel pump in the car and the
car still no start okay interesting it did have spark it did have fuel the car should just start
oh what else could cause it who knows um there's only two sensors really that would stop the car
maybe three depending on how often who one temp sensor would be and Mitsubishi said no one for
having bad coolant temp sensors as we know from our past so I was like well the cam sensor and
coolant temp sensor are also really cheap and they're really high up on the engine let's do a cam
and coolant temp sensor because they're right there so like slap those in the car still no
started I'm like well this is frustrating now it's been a couple days and they have two cars
but have been sharing one car now on an engine spin down I'm like well the only thing left
is the crank sensor
order the crank sensor
had a waiting to go started looking up how to do the crank sensor which thank you Andrew for
finding me the factory service manual online that helped a lot um figured all that out
the crank sensor on these cars and I'm not all my cars are old I've never really had to deal with
cam and crank sensors before um I did a cam sensor on my old Audi a4 but that was simple
is it common Andrew for crank sensors to be buried up in behind the timing belt
yeah because it needs to have the shutter wheel on the crank it's broken right usually I thought it
was in the front they put it but I guess not not always so anyway it was behind the timing belt
which is obviously an incredibly fun place to have to get access to so the car was dead
not at my house so not in my garage with the nice functional new air conditioner
they don't live too far away so we considered pushing it or flat towing it and getting it down
here and but then it was gonna require the whole like car shuffle and pushing the car around the
backyard with the where it's not paved then it's like crushed stone it's paying to push cars around
it's just like and for some reason here in March it's over 100 degrees already
it's like 30 degrees over the temperature it's supposed to be which is incredibly frustrating
if it's 30 degrees over the temperature it's supposed to be come July and August we're going
to be in trouble so hopefully it doesn't that doesn't happen but it's already was already 103
degrees here on Friday and Saturday so on Sunday I was like you know what we'll get an early start
they have a little carport at their house we'll push under the carport get in the shade
and we'll start working on this thing so I fought with it for a bit you know get the wheel off got
the requires taking off the alternator belt the power steering belt the power steering bracket
the timing belt cover and obviously the crank pulley as well had to go get a special tool
for taking the crank pulley off because obviously when you turn the crank pulley the whole engine
spins which is fun of course Mitsubishi makes a special tool which you can't get but it seems that
most modern cars and again Andrew you have more experience of modern cars than I do they have
these little dowel holes on the crank pulley and usually whatever manufacturer special tool fits
in these dowels but they do make a tool that they sell at harbor freight of 30 bucks that's like an
adjustable width Y shaped tool with interchangeable different pin ends on the end in millimeter sizes
so you can fit this universal special tool to the crank pulley I've never dealt with this before I
thought it was a pretty slick little tool it does this basically does the same thing that
when I talked about doing the timing belt the 944 I had that like that lock key that went on the
flywheel so it's just on a front wheel drive car it's not as easy to access the flywheel as it is
a rear wheel drive car so it has this special tool that goes on there and then you set the pins
inside the pulley and then you you know put it so that when you're putting torque on the bolt
that tool is pushed up against something in this case we use the frame reel that's where it wound
up sitting and was able to break the crank pulley loose so and then use the job holder
pull the crank off and then had to figure out how to get in behind that timing belt without
taking the timing belt off because it's got a fairly fresh timing belt on it I did not want to get
into that process so get it all apart we're into it at that point for probably about two and a half
hours maybe and pull out the part from the box and it is incorrect so that was fun cool yeah
so I'm not sure I've never seen one set up this way when we unplugged the cam sensor
the cam sensor harness is up by the valve cover
yeah that's where it plugs into the main engine harness but when I had the timing cover off I
was looking and noticed that there was no wire harness going from the cam sensor up the timing
cover and then I realized that the wire harness from the main engine harness to the connector on
the cam sensor is built into the timing cover really yeah so when you when you when you pull
the timing cover off you unplug the crank sensor it's interesting I've never seen a timing cover
like this ever in my life so the cam sensor the crank sensor that I got which was supposed to be
for the correct car had a harness on it that went off the crank sensor and then was supposed to be
plugged in somewhere else but with a long like you know two and a half or three foot long harness
which would not work in this I thought about trying to use it and just like routing the
cable somewhere and plugging it into the main harness but that was quickly changed when I
realized that the connector was totally different as well so I was like well this is obviously the
wrong part so I don't know if maybe the listing is screwed up somewhere and because there's two
different two-liter Lancers maybe that one's for a 4G63 EVO Lancer and I have no maybe yeah I'm not
sure supposedly it was for this car but obviously it's not I also don't know because I've never been
inside a later 4G63 where the crank sensor is on that does it have a shutter wheel on that
same style or is it like an early 4G63 where it has the sensor on the back of the block
no I think they added a shutter wheel I don't remember that I mean it's more modern so it
makes sense um anyway probably had to do this right coil on plug versus the early cars that
word it is yeah so I'm trying rake by brain back to when I owned one in 2004 somehow 22 years ago
but um anyway so look at the part up online they do stock it locally at O'Reilly's we have a new
brand new O'Reilly's hub that's around the corner from us that has like every part in the world
which is excellent to have access to of course the online part that I bought was like $27 and
the one on O'Reilly's was $89 but case the race around the cars apart the parts in stock we're
gonna do it we're not waiting any longer we'll suffer through the actually a couple of dollars
so uh while I laid on the ground and contemplated life staring up at the ceiling uh Naomi very
kindly ran out and picked that part up uh at O'Reilly's and then also picked up lunch so that
was a uh a good middle of the project respite um wasn't at the park got it all put together
got it put in the car got the cold car put back together I think the whole start to finish process
was probably I don't know somewhere in the three three and a half hour range didn't seem too bad
considering everything I had to do if I take out the time waiting for parts or food probably about
three to three and a half hours of like actual work time which a lot of that also was trying to
figure out how to get the crank pulley off and then waiting for Naomi again kindly to go get
the the tool from Harbor Freight and all those little things but it all in all it wasn't too
bad of a job uh it would definitely be intimidating if you're not someone who wrenches a lot but it
was not too too terrible for a backyard hack like myself so get the whole car back together
get all the belts back on back in the car car still won't start
okay
then my brain is just thinking back and forth and thinking everything's been done and I disconnected
the fuel rail to see what fuel was and disconnected this and done this and possibly been trying to
crank the car a lot and I was like well there could be two things happening here now or at this
point the battery could be drained to a point where it's not spinning the motor fast enough to start
the car and also there could be air in the fuel system because everything's been cracked open
and I might just need to like be patient get some charge from this battery cycle the key a
bunch of times to try to get it to prime the fuel system a little bit more and thankfully with the
big jump back on there a few primes of the key the car fired right up and knock wood it's now
Tuesday afternoon and I haven't gotten the call that he's broken down on Monday or Tuesday
driving to and from work so all all is well in the world of the Lancer so good not the end of the
world but the frustrating thing to me is I don't have a fancy scan tool I just have like a code
reader and there are no codes so I couldn't go in there and like try to trigger things or see what
was and wasn't reading like if you have a fancy scan tool sometimes you can get in there and
crank the car and see if it's not seeing a signal from the crank sensor or something like that but
in this case I had to kind of fly a little bit blind because again there were no no codes had
shown at all which I also thought was strange but all this the part was failing that's why the
long crank for a few days then just one day just not working at all so in between there's all kinds
of other die eggs stuff that happened you know checking every fuse a thousand times and switching
relays from one to the other and all that stuff but I'm glad the crank sensor did it because at
that point there's not much left to change except for maybe the ECU so it is what it is but it's
good to go the weird thing was was that when I was testing for spark I was getting spark
and I would think if the crank sensor died I wouldn't be getting spark but I guess maybe what was
happening was it was not reading properly and it was just sparking whenever it felt like it
maybe it was not the correct spark I don't know but
we're good now car runs that has taken quite a few of my project car evenings the past few days
past week or so I should say so I haven't gotten much done on my own stuff but I can put a massive
thanks out to Mike from Italian Design and Racing he fixed up the gas tank in the stereo and I think
I said that last week but I have it back in my possession now so the plan was to get in this
weekend but we got a little derail with other stuff going on not blaming her personal answer and
other non-correlated things also going on this weekend so just got busy but that will
hopefully be painted either tonight or tomorrow and I can get it back in the car and this weekend
is kind of a loss because I'd be going to the Prescott forest rally so that will be Thursday
Sunday morning so if you're in the Crest area or the Phoenix area you want to check it out
Friday night there is a spectator stage so if you go to either the Prescott rally home page
has some info but I found it easier to find on Finley Subaru's website the information for
the actual special stage so it's a they've never had a spectator stage at the Prescott rally before
so this is or not in recent memory anyway so this should be a neat little addition to it
so and if you're up there look for me I'll be there somewhere I'll either be working nice
with some of the staff up there or I'll be riding triple zero car with Mike in the Lamborghini again
this year so we'll see up in the air a little bit plans wise that says weekend like as in that's
recording on Tuesday and on Thursday that's why you've only had four days to get progress done
it's why it feels like you haven't done anything Andrew it's only been four days
sure you're gonna have really plus you guys had a busy weekend you know getting fresh
maple syrup and whatnot so you couldn't uh could work on cars it's uh it was sugar weekend I guess
I didn't realize that was like all these years we never really went to New Hampshire during like
mud season sure end of the winter uh but that's mapleing season but apparently it was like a big
weekend because the temperatures were right the trees were running with sap and a bunch of local
it's just very common there's local sugar houses that uh a lot of them have like open houses they'll
just like hey come by watch us make sugar because they're gonna probably buy some maple syrup which
you're gonna buy expensive people's syrup from them so they'll uh it was actually less
buying direct than like buying the you know fancy maple syrup from some country store or
something well if you buy fancy maple syrup from the country store you have to pay the Canadian
maple syrup mafia their cut so no not if it's Vermont or New Hampshire I know this was maple
syrup right out of the boiler it's pretty amazing yeah I so I'm not like never I've never been that
big on like you know maple flavors like whatever but you just grow up in kind of the synthesized
stuff and then you know the real stuff and yeah it does taste a little better and then uh but it
turns out like that stuff's probably like blended and this stuff from like the local farm whoa like
like mind blown how good it tastes that's really really good like they gave like shooters to us
as they like walked in like try it like I'm gonna drink syrup are you drinking you're like I want
to drink more syrup yeah I could drink a bottle of this yeah well it's like going to an actual
beekeeper's like honey farm like having the actual like fresh bees wax and little tubes like direct
from like fresh fresh honey like it's amazing yeah oh yeah I'm surprised I'm surprised in your
40 question mark years of living in New England you've never been to a maple house before
especially you spent so much time skiing in New Hampshire I'm very surprised
probably because I was like turned off on maple stuff because it's like usually the
fake flavor it's not very good it's like yeah maybe um but yeah it's like it's pretty good
it's definitely worth yeah no it's it's really really good yeah so um yeah like your whole
week of New England stuff made me jealous about not being in New England because I was like yeah
spring into England is the best come to find out there's some places that will boil hot dogs
in the boiler as they're doing it I'm like that sounds pretty good too that sounds like the best
hot dog water I've ever heard of yeah maple flavored hot dog water which probably would just
taste like maple smoked bacon yeah it probably would that would probably be delicious and I am 100
percent in but anyway yeah it's very cool anyway total total aside I think I mean we're
driving the Volkswagen around going to these things and I started hearing a thumping noise
and it's either the snow tires are junk because they're five years old or it's gonna wheel bearing
that needs to be replaced but then I noticed like the noise is not there the last couple days I'm
like it's a little weird I don't think it was the road surface we were on it was just like a real
steady thump good news is that if it is wheel bearings it's not as we were real
yeah I assume I don't know I think the knuckles are aluminum on these cars I'm not sure I'll find out
when I switch the summer tires in a couple weeks if it doesn't go away then yeah run to a wheel
bearing I guess at least I don't think it's terribly terribly difficult in that car no at least
my dad invested in those chassis years so I can nail it down probably I forgot about those yeah
excellent all right what else you got going on Andrew you know play a game
should we play cray-crayed don't tell me yeah
yeah I think we should it's been entirely too long all right
we got a couple last week we had questions this week we have cray-crayed would tell me
yeah I've got a couple people put effort in
they might work they might not work it's tricky you know we're low effort podcasts people are
doing low effort cray is this posting that's a valid point we can't complain I guess all right
I'll go first uh because this one even though it's light on specs you'll probably get it maybe from
the description because it's it's decent so step to the legacy of blank with this stunning blank

any guesses all right i know what it is you said too much i hate this guy up by the way did i he's
uh he's not my friend okay um yeah this his description just makes me want to punch him in
the face but this is obviously a defender 90 yes so yeah i mean was it the nantucket nomad
is that a model did i give it away i mean that gave it away a little bit that was just like
that's you described the person like he's a he's a nantucket nomad he was a nomadic lifestyle
where he he goes between his four multi-million dollar mansions um no it was the uh puma bonnet
that's like a cowl induction hood for a defender 90 okay see i yeah that's a nerd thing i wouldn't
know no it's not a nerd that's pretty neat it's a uh it's a remember it's a it's a it's an idiot
brain that remembers the stupidest things i used to work at that online car auction yeah so i
distinctly remember them coming through with a puma bonnet a bonnet also made it british
but a puma bonnet it's like am i not wrong it looks like kind of like a cowl induction hood
style for it's not bad it's like they're raised in the center yeah so this thing is uh this thing
is triple cream it looks pretty good actually oh listen they're not bad looking vehicles that hood
is dumb but they're not bad looking vehicles but for 75k uh like six wranglers it's really
disappointing that you put ebay led headlights in it yes it would look gorgeous with a set of just
normal actually uh vintage diodes does some nice led come on out here for barrett jackson and you'll
see all of the six figure cars the ebay headlights in them and it will just make you want gouge your
own headlights out it is um it is a manual um but yeah is it actually a modern one or is it an old
it's a 90 okay i never understood the value okay so it's imported yeah i never understood
the the value of those because i guess it's just a badge right it's just like a fancy handbag like
they're expensive because they are yeah because there are so many better vehicles out there for
$75,000 um they perform better or the same like how many first gen monteros could you buy for
$75,000 yeah this is a big time nantucket flex out here like it's a big time flex everywhere it's a
big time scott's tail flex like i see them here too but yeah first gen if you could if you imported
a first gen montero that was convertible way cooler way way cooler yeah well they call it jcop
yeah probably you knew it for sub $7,000 yeah but anyway anyway all right for me yours
first one yep let's see let's go with this one here
blank blank blank blank blank 32,000 miles 351 cleveland rebuilt just short five hard horsepower
new clutch and center force disc 10 inch wide front and 13 inch wide rear rims to match the
wide fender flares these are new gr4 magnesium wheels that i've owned for 30 years
we're caro seats in black interior gts dash clock with very misspelled
blah punk radio he says blah upon a radio new radio with three fans great color for a gts
initially sold in europe the flares are molded better than the factory versions these blank blank
are rarer first ones imported through blank dealers were 1288 this one is number 1749
believed to be the first blank built by blank
okay this butt hit it gives you one clue that was too long but well yeah
yeah i might not have caught it because i'm not as good as it's remembering carfax as you
i'm going for it's a mclaren fox body 351 cleveland
if there is a fox body would be a 302 you could shove a 351 in there i guess
big flares 351 it says 10 inch and 13 inch wide wheels
10 wide front 13 inch wide rear
they made a magnesium that he's owned for over 30 years
oh oh oh is this like a um
the rears are 13 by 15s and the fronts are
earth is this like a super performance uh cobra no not a super performance cobra
so gts dash clock gts
gts big giveaway oh oh oh oh um
it's a hennessey no it's not a hennessey vote brothers make sense no those are gts
what car also was called a gts gts is a trim package on these cars there is a base and a gts
they're a thord engine european cars oh pantera is bandera yes there yeah i guess you didn't
officially say hennessey viper so i will call that as a guess so you did get him your third guest so
you are good all right um this man does not know what he has or thinks he has more than he has
um it's a custom molded wide body 71 pantera um it does not come factory with the wide body
the wide body on the factory cars looked terrible but better than this and he's claiming it's the
first gts which is not true because i don't think they made a gts in 71 i think gts was 74
i would be curious to know you can shout out on the discord if you got that before i did so
and uh again what we'll do is we'll post them like a few days after the episode airs
yeah i'll have to remember to save these links yeah finish them up i just leave the tabs open
all right sir i'll give that one to you let's see it's only $135,000 if you want to buy it oh my gosh
all right this one this is a package deal it's two cars but we'll just have to guess the one
that's my kind of car my god deal yeah more car all right
numbers matching this car is finally going to get stored in garage it's a mid to late 1990s
um i bought the car in main after the second owner got it running car will need complete
restoration but it's unmolested true blank with all original parts we'll need trunk
pans rear quarter panels front fenders doors seem pretty good and vinyl top shows some bumps
underneath getting rust details so hard top black vinyl top 40 cubic inch motor four bell carb
warwick blue interior with blue yeah warwick blue exterior with blue interior highway headlights
power antenna rally two wheels uh that's about it i don't know if you can get it from that
you said this was early 90s it's been in stored in a garage since the mid late 90s oh okay i
apologize i thought you meant the car was that and then your specs made absolutely no sense whatsoever
all right a rally two is this Pontiac vinyl top is probably a Le Mans so it's probably a 71 Le Mans
or GTO so very close i'll give it 70 Le Mans or GTO 69 GTO okay yeah i i was i was even the right
body style at that point yeah i just i there's no way to get the exact year but yep that was
too many games what's the second car in the end see i wouldn't have uh i wouldn't have got it from
that but you're better at this than me the second one is excuse me 68 point a gt hard top
so guys someone both of these have this garage i like how it
starts starts off so promising but that's gonna be a nice garage find car and then it's like
needs quarters needs floors needs rock it's like okay the second car looks really good
running driving matching numbers four barrel april gold vinyl top april gold interior
his and her her shifter highway headlights power antenna original rally two wheels
runs excellent we'll need some mechanical bodywork to make perfect
yeah the highway headlights was also the other clue that made it not a not a firebird but i mean
a running driving gto and that other gto together 25 grand i shouldn't sound too bad
the one that's you'd prescribed to me is worth about three so oh yeah
yeah well the other ones really good pictures and yeah you're right yeah i'm looking at the
pictures now of it yeah it's absolutely worth three grand yeah just based on the description of
it having rust in the roof needing quarters and floors and trunk floors and rockers and whatever
else he said but even the running one he's about yeah no i listen if the running one's a nice car
then yeah no 20 is about right no he's about he needs to be about half price
yeah so real real nice ones are obviously worth a ton of money still you know you're still probably
probably somewhere in the low 30s i'd guess for a for a decent like cruise night level driver
but depending on options and obviously automatic kind of hurts them but i don't know i like that
body style of all for all the manufacturers buick poniek chevy olsenfield like that like 68 to 72
kind of body style is real nice cars a body i think they're called yeah stupid brain
dominating my boots all right ready this one's gonna be a while because even i didn't know this
was the thing so you're in trouble blank blank like indoor storage since 1998
1.8 liter twin carbureted engine not twin cam twin car twin carbureted engine
no rust arizona storage would anyone like to buy this car is complete and all original it's been
sitting in storage inside at our dealership since 1999 last started in 1999 it will probably
need the dual carburetors rebuilt and a fuel pump but it did run and drive fine when it was last
parked quotations in 1999 this blank has 146,629 original miles miles with a clean title these
models were part of the 83 to 87 second generation with a four speed automatic or five speed manual
this has the five speed it has factory power operated tinted glass moon roof with a sunshade
factory air condition brand new tires with no miles on them up about 20 years old if you're
interested you're welcome to stop in at our dealership phoenix corvette center and make an offer
this blank is a true survivor was one of the last second generation cars be produced before the
maker switch to the third generation so we're talking about a car built from 83 to 87 with a
1.8 liter twin carb engine so it's built from 83 to 87 and then parked in 1999 it was only like
20 years old if that 10 years old and yeah about 13 years old
