It was a little chilly over there.

But that's an occupational hazard of going there in the middle of winter, isn't it?

So we have no one else to blame but ourselves.

But we were in the air last week when you did your last podcast.

So that was a little bit tricky to actually phone in then.

In my car update, I'm flying an A380 currently.

Oh, wow.

I bought this book to read.

I saw it in a shop.

It's called Super Veloce.

And it's subtitled, How Italian Cars Conquered the World.

Did they conquer the world today?

I thought that's a special statement in itself.

I think that doesn't need to read.

And what have you found out so far about these Italian cars?

Well, it's actually really interesting.

It's a lot about the 20s and 30s.

And a lot of the people, a lot of the names that are chronicled in the stories are quite famous names, you know, that went on to become, there's a fellow called Lancia.

There's Pin and Farina actually.

They talk about Pin and Farina.

Interestingly, Farina was the surname and Pin in, the Pin in part is Italian for something like smallest or youngest, the youngest of seven kids.

So his nickname was Pin in.

So that's how it became Pin in Farina.

Oh, cool.

Yeah, so there's lots of little bits and pieces about that, but a lot about the Agnelli family and how fear it was formed and how they, the different successes in very early Formula One and how that sort of waxed and waned.

And I'm actually just up to the part where a young Enzo Ferrari, you know, who was working for out driving, I think for Alfa Romeo.

Alfa Romeo, yeah.

It's a little easy chapters to read, which suits me down to the ground.

It's very digestible.

It's quite digestible. Yes.

So the subtitle had, had, had piqued my interest.

So I thought I'll grab to read on the plane.

I had a customer come in last week at Super Cheap and he was after like, he was in like a mad rush.

He seemed like he was, you know, just like, oh, I'm going to do this.

I'm going to ask him for some seat covers.

And I'm like, oh, yeah, you know, what are they going on?

He's like, oh, they're going on a, on a Ford, what do you say?

A Ford Fusion.

I'm like, what?

Like a, like I'm on day.

Like, because that's what it is in America.

He's like, yes, it's an American, it's a lift and drop car.

I'm filming, I'm filming a movie.

And I'm like, this wouldn't be the one with Gerard Butler, by any chance, would it be?

He's like, yes.

And I'm like, is my friend's van this one?

And I showed him your van.

And he's like, oh, yes.

He's like, he's driving around with that with the bloody all the sign, the sign

written.

So he, so he knew your van.

Oh, there you go.

Small world.

Michael was it?

I think that's his name.

Yeah.

And he was like the, you know, he was the, the car kind of doer for that.

So the reason why he, he bought these seat covers, I kind of upsold him.

I'm like, well, it's a movie.

I'll, I'll, I'll sell you.

So I upsold him on the, the leather look because it's, you know, it'll also know

the, the cloth, but like the hardened cloth because he's like, I need to see

covers because there's glass.

The car has just been very common as T bone glass all over the seats.

And we don't want Gerard Butler's butt to split in with all glass.

I'm like, he's like, they're only going to be used once and thrown away.

I'm like, okay, well, take these ones.

So thought you might like that connection.

So they hide it for four days.

I'm surprised it made it to be fair.

The steering rack's been done.

They changed the diff and the twice and they changed the wheel bearings and they've.

I was going to say the sound techs probably might have sent it back to you and said,

no, the diff's a bit noisy, man.

We can't get the boom microphone to work in here.

Now with the barrier in there and the radio up, you can barely hear the diff now.

Oh yeah.

Okay.

Here we go.

How did this come about?

Like how did someone find your van out of all the vans?

I was hiring the car out for a little while because I wasn't using it in Turo.

It's a car share app.

And he picked it up through the car share app.

So I hired it out for the first movie, which it was, and it's been released.

It's called all her fault.

And it's got it like a, a, a millisecond snippet in the, in the clip.

And they paid me, I don't know, I think five or $600 on that one.

That's pretty good.

For four days.

You'll take that.

And they picked it up, towed it to the, the movie set.

Um, they'll not tell you to put it on a trade track.

And then they, um, drive up the driveway for that 30 sec, not even 30 second clip.

And then brought it back.

There you go.

So, and I took it off Turo because the car was breaking down and all that stuff all the time.

So, um, but he still remembered me.

So he called me, he goes, Hey, is your car still available?

We need it for this movie.

Okay.

Yeah.

Sure.

Yeah.

No problems.

And so I've said, oh, by the way, I've got a Mercedes and a 30 just like any car.

That's awesome.

Love it.

Um, so what did you say the, the name of the first movie was?

Oh, well, you better not say that too loud.

Um, let's, uh, we married man's favorite film.

Oh, it's got a lot of, it starts off real slow.

It's eight, an eight part series or whatever you want to call it.

Mini series.

And, um, it's about a lady dropping off her kid at a, one of the mother's houses from

school.

Um, but the kid goes missing.

All right.

No balls from there.

I thought it was going to be the guy says, this is all your fault.

And then, uh, the scene is the van moving all his things out of the house.

The husband was the wife for the whole short series that one.

But at the end you find out, I won't, no, I won't, I won't, you have to,

you have to watch your late all slow episodes.

It minds in the fourth, I think episode.

All right.

Okay.

So, you know, it's possible to the fourth episode, just see where your van is.

Oh, there's Rob's van.

Yeah.

But this one, they've got a big sunlight dish on it.

They put some roller, um, some not roller roof racks, um, some rhino roof racks on it.

Um, and he said, you can keep those.

They're about like five or 600 bucks a set.

I said, I'll take that.

So yeah, it's good.

We'll start, we'll start with you, Rob.

Updates with you.

So obviously, obviously your van is a, is a movie star.

Yeah.

So the, the van's a movie star, a booked, um, big swapping cars around and driving cars,

just getting involved.

The battery's gone flat on the XR six.

Harley's taking his, uh, Amrock in for the head, head unit to be displayed, uh, changed

because it, it seizes up and HVAC doesn't work and all that sort of stuff on the Amrock.

Then I'm taking his C 63 in for a service tomorrow.

Just you're swapping cars around, cleaning the cars up, nothing major on any of the cars.

Yeah.

So cars went to a car show on Sunday.

Which one?

Took the Mustang.

The one at Pescoval was, um, at the cricket club.

I can't remember the name of it.

It's something Pescoval, a rod and bike show.

Okay.

And, um, it was a big turnout.

A lot of cars, some nice cars too.

So the entry was $30.

My mate Charlie with his GT Shelby replica, um, won the, the best modern car at show.

Um, so they'll, they'll fire us in the Mustang group that went and displayed our cars.

So that was good.

Um, beautiful day Sunday sitting there and just, um, underneath a tree watching people

go by and asking questions, you know, about the cars and whatnot.

So a lot of interest even, you know, that they mustangs, but there's still a lot of interest.

It's amazing.

Yeah.

So the Mustang needs a service as well.

So that I'll book that in tomorrow as well.

SEC, no progress on that one.

Chancellor here to defend him this time.

Well, anyway, that, that's something I need to talk to him about when he comes back from

his holidays.

I drove the E 30 last week, took that for a spin, but it didn't drive the 300 SC.

I haven't driven that for a couple of months now.

So I need to get that going as well.

Yeah.

So that's, that's pretty much it with the cars.

Drags are good on the weekend.

Um, on Friday night.

Yeah.

Uh, uh, Rob, Scotty, though.

Um, a couple of things.

I finally service the blade.

So I did that oil change and filter nice and easy to do.

Before you continue, Jim, I think it's got a question.

Did you watch?

Oh, sorry.

I guess did you watch the blade?

No, I still haven't.

It's good.

He's just going to ask that question every week now, right?

It does need a wash.

Um, had the mechanic come around on Sunday to take a look at a couple of things with

the handbrake and all that.

I found out where that metal, there was a metal noise that kept happening that I'd hear

inside the cabin.

So I removed the center console piece and you can see where the handbrake cable is and

there's a bracket and it's all loose.

So it was sitting there and banging.

So we're like, oh, cool.

You know, we can tighten it from the wheel.

So we go back and take the wheel off ready to do it properly.

And there's nothing there.

The handbrake cable is just zip tied up.

Oh dear.

Um, so there's no bracket or anything with these aftermarket brakes to attach the

handbrake or anything for it, which isn't really massive drama because I've got the

stock brakes anyway.

So I'll just wear out these pads that are on this one and then I can just swap the

rears over to the stock ones and get a handbrake back again.

So I mean, I've had it for a while now without a handbrake a little bit longer.

It's not going to do anything.

Can't get cruise control to work on it.

That's not good for Japanese Scotty.

Pardon?

That's unusual being Japanese.

Why would that not work?

Yeah, I mean, you can do it on the series ones.

You can do it on the blades that come with the 2.4 leader in it, but for some reason

the series two, I don't know.

It's missing something, maybe a module or it's missing something.

Why doesn't the cruise just work?

Why is it missing something?

It doesn't have one.

It doesn't have cruise.

No, it was an optional extra in series twos.

Oh, right.

Wow.

Yeah.

And the way that a lot of people do it is there's a pin in the ECU and all you do is

get a wire and run it into the Fox Spring and then you buy the, obviously the clues,

the clues, the cruise control stalk, hook that up, plug it in, boom,

bodge your uncle and it works.

Mine, when I have a look at the ECU, I've already got a wire going into that pin.

So it's already taken up and then I go and have a look under the dash.

I'm like, okay, everything seems fine.

Hook it up.

Nothing.

He hooked up.

He's computed to it and there's no mention of cruise control or anything on there as

a module.

There's nothing coming up.

There's no fuses whatsoever for it.

We searched everything, searched through the books.

It doesn't even have a fuse.

Nothing listed for it.

So went, okay, that's a bugger.

Needs a new front brake pads.

I put the order in for those and it's another wait time on those ones too.

About one and a half months.

Yeah, they've got to be made.

Oh my God.

Which is odd because these brake pads aren't specific.

They're not specific for the blade.

They're just part of the brand endless.

So it's just for their four-pot brake system, which you can buy for like Subaru Liberties

and things like that.

They use the same brake upgrade system and I don't know, can't get them.

They're all saying that there's a bit of a delay on those ones.

So they asked me, did I want to go ahead?

I was like, yeah, I don't really have any other options.

So I'll have to wait about one and a half months on those

and slowly bed them in because I just wanted to get to sit right

because I don't want to get new rotors or anything at the moment.

There's no lip or anything on the rotors.

Just the front rotors have got, what would you call it?

I called it the right name last time.

I can't remember what it is now.

Just some marks, some little dots, the marks and stuff on them.

Might be worth getting a machine or something, sorry.

I'm not sure if they have a machine in them that well.

They're cross drilled.

No, not cross drilled.

They're slotted.

It's still a skim the surface.

If they're using the lathe, not the actual brake machine,

but what they often do is they put them on the same machine

that they do for flywheels and they give them a light skim.

So that is a possibility.

Just do it myself.

Pitting, that's the word.

Yes, that's the word I was using last time.

The proper scientific word.

Yeah, it's got a bit of that in there.

It still stops fine.

To get new ones of those is going to cost me quite a bit.

Those are a lot cheaper.

And yeah, as I said, there's no lip on it,

so it's still got a bit of life left into it.

I assume it's just been sitting around

and it's just started to pit from the ocean.

Maybe snow.

God knows where it's been sitting.

I can see underneath there's some of the screws

that have got a bit of surface rust and stuff on them

that we don't get here.

So you just kind of notice that now.

I can't remember.

Does that car have a dealer sticker on the tailgate

or the back window or anything?

You sometimes see that on those imports like...

Yeah, it might.

Or circuit toy or pet or those sorts of things.

Yeah, I know what you mean.

If not, I might have it in the booklets and stuff

to see where in Japan it came from.

I was going to say to you, Scotty,

you can buy an aftermarket cruise control and get it fitted.

That is a positive.

I know it's probably easier to make it all fit in

with all the genuine stuff,

but I guess if it doesn't have it, it doesn't have it.

So it'll be a pain in the arse.

Yeah, well, not too fast.

Just if it was that easy to fix it, then it would be awesome.

It's just, you know, if I was going back,

if it doesn't have the handbrake or anything attached

and I bought it like that,

I'm trying to get the road worthy properly in the first place.

And the place that did it is fairly well known.

Not a metal cable tie, is it?

Metal cable tie on it.

I'm not quite sure.

He looked underneath and saw it.

There was just cable tied up.

Yeah, it's not ideal.

I wouldn't be happy with that, Scotty.

But yeah, I mean, usually,

you've got to have a working handbrake for a road worthy.

Absolutely.

Unless the person I bought it from

had put the stocks back on it and then got the road worthy

and then swapped it back out, I don't know.

Interesting.

I know, but yeah, fairly interesting,

especially where it came from

and the place that did the compliance and the road worthy.

So, yeah.

Oh yeah, and I got my little switch

for the traction control came into.

Oh, cool, nice.

So, it's just a nice little simple plug in the back

and there's already got the four wires hanging out of it.

So, I don't need to really try and plug them in or anything.

Just got to put them on and heat shrink them and hook it up.

So, Jim.

A few things.

We'll cover a bit later, obviously,

but had a fantastic day and Friday catching up with Matty J

before we get to the drags later on.

Had a really, really enjoyable time.

We seem to be being stalked by Mazda 2s

that were green for some reason.

It was a bit strange.

It was like 10 second gen ones.

We saw 10.

That's not exaggeration.

We saw two on the back of a tow truck.

The same tow truck.

Same tow truck, yeah.

And then on the way home,

I passed a dealership that had a green one.

So, like, might want to take it for a test drive

just to end the day.

So, that was rather funny.

What else is there?

Oh, I've taken a few different cars for a test drive like this.

So, I've test driven that Baby Mahindra,

New Camry, BYD, Seal and Octavia RS Wagon.

So, they were all quite interesting

and different experiences.

What do you think of the Mahindra?

Okay, so, I got into a demonstration

which had, I think, it was five and a half thousand Ks on it.

And it was the up spec one.

So, it's not the cheap one at 24K.

I think it's 27, I think.

So, it has, like, a full length moonroof

and everything else.

Positives first.

In the front and the back, there's a lot of room

for passengers, lots of headroom, legroom,

good visibility out of the car, whatever.

About all of the positives, I think.

So, where it was, it was near the M1.

So, I pulled out, hopped onto there

and that's what I was pulling on.

And I've never had this experience before

and it wasn't windy.

I feel as though because the wheelbase is so short

it felt very unsettled at the highway speed,

like very much like it'd be very easy to over-correct

and sort of lose it.

So, that was a bit disconcerting.

It is obviously the three-cylinder turbo.

But what was, all of this concerning was, like,

moving off from a standing, like, so when you came to a stop

it was acting as though it wanted to stall all the time.

The driver's seat also squeaked

and clicked into place, like, when you were accelerating

and braking.

And the so-called leather seats as well

feel like you're sitting on glue

and I think that probably made the seat squeak worse

because trying to get in and out

it was just like you'd just stick to the seat

and couldn't budge, it was interesting.

The other thing which I think is probably

a car safety thing more than anything else

but the load lip for the hatch is very, very high.

So, even for me, and I'm not ultra-short, not ultra-tall

if you're lifting luggage in to go to the airport

or to put the pram in the back or the golf clubs in the back

it's quite, like, it's quite a high load lip

before it goes down to the floor.

So, it would, yeah,

it could be a case of being much better to buy

a good used car rather than one of those.

It'd be interesting to see what they're like as a manual

but they're cheap for a reason, I think, is my summary.

Jim, are you becoming a dealership pest?

Probably. I mean, like, I quite like sort of,

when I need, like, a bit of a break mentally,

I just sort of go and think,

I'll just go and test drive this or test drive that.

I like it, Jim. I like it.

You're going to get known around town as the serial test driver.

Well, I'm trying to spread out where I go

so that it doesn't really get around.

I did the mehindra and then because I needed to recover

a test drive of the new Camry

and just the sound of the door hinge made

was enough to fix how I was feeling.

So much better.

The only, my gripe with it, with the new Camry though,

the center console, the button that you use to open it

is right, it meets piano, gloss black plastic

near the gear lever, so that will scratch up

like nothing else quickly.

But, yeah, the transition from petrol to electric,

you know, if you're a car person you can tell

but for the average punter you can't tell, it's very, very good.

They do get that right to it, they do a good job.

In that spec it is very much like a taxi spec,

but, you know, it's a little good car.

BYDC, I think, was also interesting,

as in the bones are quite good.

I found, to me, there wasn't a lot of room,

I felt quite cramped inside.

It has got the full length moonroof,

which I think is a bit of a con, but anyway.

And also personal taste, but we live in Australia,

so why do you want a black car with black leather seats

and black roof lining?

I don't get it, I mean, unless you like melting,

I personally don't, but, you know, each to their own.

Has all the cameras in the world that you could see,

that you would need, including a camera

that actually shows you what's underneath the car?

It's a choice, yeah, I know.

I was a bit like, okay, I guess,

so when you run over someone you don't like,

you can just make sure that they actually aren't moving.

To make sure you've killed them.

To make sure that they're not moving anyone,

you have actually killed them,

potentially, I'm not sure.

And I think it's a bit of a thing

with the current sort of group of Triumph cars

that we're getting, is just that they seem

to like a very soft suspension tune.

And it's quite pillowy and bit wallowy and whatever.

And so it does absorb stuff, but when it sort of,

you know, goes over a speedhub and it's like,

after a while it's like, yeah,

and I just feel sick driving to work in this.

So, but the burns are good,

it's better than other ones I've driven.

But by far the most enjoyable was the,

I would only go to go and try and test drive

the base model Octavia wagon

because I wanted to see what that was price point

for the Camry.

But the only ones they had were fenced in

by about four different layers of chemiques

in each direction.

So they had a Octavia RS that was much easier to get to.

The salesperson I spoke to was quite funny.

He had to keep checking his stuff because he said,

I've only been here for a week

because up until last week I was with JLR

and I went, oh, they're actually going up in the world.

That's good.

So I would say the Octavia is sort of like

when you go to a party and the very attractive person

walks in that consumes all of your attention,

but you're also aware that their reputation precedes them.

So perhaps you should engage with that.

Yeah, thoroughly enjoyed that play a little bit too much.

And then the other update, I guess I'll finish on too,

is that I did think I bought a magnet,

but I'm thinking that was a rather pleasant dream

at this point because I still haven't got it.

So yeah.

Yeah.

I wasn't game enough to ask you yesterday.

I knew it was a touchy subject, but not ideal.

I've said that to me, I think 10 days now.

And it's like, OK.

That's really awkward.

Well, the latest quick update was that when I was going

to go and see Maddie, my plan was go and see my fruit bit,

go back and pick up the magnet and then, you know,

do something in the evening and whatever,

because it's 7.20 in the morning.

They phoned me to say that the car was all ready to go

through roadworthy and everything done,

and it should be done by early afternoon, I thought.

Finally, hour later, they rang me and they said,

so the second start motor that we put in this morning

when we went to move it, it started smoking.

It's not ideal.

It's very bad for you.

Yeah, it picked up a bad habit.

Yes.

So then it was, I will have it ready on Monday.

And then it was, oh, it's arriving today.

And then today it was, oh, well, it should be ready tomorrow.

And the Civic's going in for a transmission service on Thursday.

So I'm going to see how much longer this keeps dragging out.

I think at this time I might just wait until make the 45 maybe.

That's a fair way.

Yeah.

Well, this point feels like it might be coming closer to them,

I think.

So yeah, but anyway, hopefully next week I'll have a more

positive update.

And then of course the other thing too was last night went out

with Ed, David, Andrew Wigglesworth, Nick and Rowan,

and had a fantastic time at Mornington and then went

for a lovely drive as well.

Took some fantastic pictures.

So yeah, other than the motor, it's been pretty good.

Nice, lovely.

The mechanic being contacting you?

Or you contacting them?

Most of the time it's been me contacting them.

It's always the way.

The other thing I have to say too is that the mechanic sort of said

to me on Monday, I'm getting a really bad vibe about your car.

And I sort of resisted the urge to try and strangle by remote control.

But yeah, that was rather interesting.

What?

Yeah.

I used to rock up in person.

Yeah.

See, I would do that, but because they're an hour and three quarters.

Yeah, that's fair.

It's a bit like, yeah, but yeah.

I used to leave work because I won't go into full detail,

but I mean, he had it for well over a year.

It's been sitting there, well over a year sitting there for.

And it was a small garage and I'd just swing around after work

and stuff and just check and just stand and get in his way.

And it's the only way I could get a response or else he just wouldn't

message me, wouldn't get anything.

Wow.

That's a really ineffective way to run a business.

It's really, yeah.

Doesn't have a workshop anymore.

That makes sense.

The word vibe should never be mentioned by mechanic.

These things are put together with screws and oil and gaskets.

Vibe doesn't come into it for me.

So, you know, if you're, if you're doing stuff by feel or by vibe.

Yep.

I don't buy it.

Anyway, that's just.

He starts checking its horoscopes and stuff.

Yeah, exactly.

I'll say, Jim, your car is a tourist.

You know,

stubborn.

It's very.

Please tell me it's.

It's a touring car.

Car updates with me.

Phew.

The Pajero has been given some love by Matthew J and myself,

but mainly Matthew J.

We did the clay bar.

We did the Polish.

I used far too much Polish and so clogged up the thing and Matty was

like, no, you don't need that much.

So he had to fix my wrongdoings.

So he does all the work.

I know.

I used to do that with mom.

We did that.

And then we had to have a break because some days in between,

before we did the ceramic coat ourselves,

which is surprisingly easy.

Once you do the prep work correctly to put the ceramic coat on,

that's not a hard thing.

So we did two coats on the bonnet and one coat everywhere else.

And ooh, Simpsons, very happy.

He's very, he's shining and gleaming and silky smooth.

So that was fun.

What else?

The big girl to rewind a little bit.

A friend of mine is going up to the 50th anniversary in Canberra

this week, coming weekend of the W123 Mercedes Benz.

He is in Australia.

National gathering in Canberra.

He's got two, a 240 diesel sedan and a 280 TE wagon.

Ideally, he would take the sedan with his wife and me

and our friend Tommy, we're going to take up the wagon.

But I said, well, if I'm going to drive this wagon,

can I sort of, you know, give it a bit of a going over?

So he basically, yeah, loaned it to me for the last week.

So I've been fanging it around everywhere.

And at first I thought it was okay, you know, good oil pressure,

temp's okay, gearbox changes all right.

You know, this wagon will make it to Canberra.

But it's got this intermittent sort of stuttery problem where it

feels like it's not getting enough fuel, like bleh, bleh, bleh,

you know, and it sort of half turns itself off.

And it seems to be really random.

I can't quite work out whether it's hot, cold pattern, you know,

of it.

So that and the fact it's got no aircon that's going to be

really hot this week and weekend.

I sort of said to him, yeah, no, I'm not taking it.

You can have it back.

So hence and when I thought, well, the car to take would be

the big girl, you know, an interstate sort of road trip,

but that needs tires because it got flat spots on them.

And I didn't want to, I didn't want a vibration at a hundred.

So I booked it in tomorrow morning to get four new boots.

No one really makes 205 70 14s anymore.

They're a sort of a wide 14.

Nexon do them.

Handcooked do them.

That's, that's kind of it.

Your Michelin's and your Continental's and they just don't make them anymore.

So I was like, all right, give me a hand cooks.

I'm having to pay more than I wanted, but that'll sort it.

My Lexus is currently having a couple of touch ups in the panel shop from where

the old lady had scraped a few things on the bumpers and whatnot.

And once that's back, that'll get advertised.

Well, as I said, everything started, which was a good sign.

Actually, I haven't tried the Civic Grand Prix yet,

but that will get started next day or two.

But the good thing was, the great thing I heard this week is that I gave my,

I think I mentioned before my son is restoring an N360 scamp that I gave him

as a housewarming present when he bought his house.

And it's coming up a treat.

But when I, just before we went away was the classic Japan event that I took

the scamp to down at Cruden Farm and his place is not far from there.

And he said, well, how about you?

I have the scamp on your way because in putting the one that he's got back together,

he said it'd be really handy to have one there to check things of how they were

because mine's very original.

So he's had a great time putting his back together.

But he told me the other day he's actually re-bushed the gear shift,

which hasn't been done in 30 years and desperately needed it.

And also done the engine mount, which he had to spare one of those.

So I'm very much looking forward to getting to drive that.

We've got a big beginning of the year barbecue for the Honda Car Club tomorrow night.

And a friend of mine is bringing my LN, the panel van version of the scamp that I have.

I haven't driven that for some time.

But he's bringing that along and then dropping it at my place afterwards

so that I can get the I've got new tie rods for the steering rack,

which it's all he needs.

And because of the lack of use over the last couple of years,

it's been started and run, but not sort of driven much.

It was the last time it was going to be driven.

It had a massive hole in the exhaust,

which was just through starting it and not drying it out,

you know, not running it long enough.

So at the same time, the workshop that I use in Burwood nearby

have been looking for the tiniest little muffler they could find to fit to that.

So there's a chance that'll be finding a new home.

So, yeah, those sort of things will bring it up to the condition it should be

and hopefully get a road with it pretty easily that way with those.

Like, as you mentioned, I took the end one for a lovely drive last night down the peninsula.

That bit of road between Mount Martha and Dramana around the around the edge of the water

is just such a cracking bit of road.

It's always I had some great drives around there.

And last night was no exception.

But it was actually cool to see all the different cars going and having a run.

It was good to see Scotty in real life, Jim in real life,

Edward in real life, Rob in real life, Chad was there as well.

Some of my mates from work came along as well,

not from teaching, but from super cheap.

It was a great night.

that that's a road legal car that they can sell.

But seeing all the different cars there,

I think was a real highlight for me on the night.

Not only was there a van and there were statesmen,

there was a few statesmen actually,

but there was something for everybody, I think.

And that's what made it a real fun night.

There was Japanese stuff, there was Aussie stuff,

So it had a bit of an interesting flavour of vehicles.

it was his first time out at the drags.

Um, like he's been to watch the drags numerous times,

but the first time, you know, he's done it in a legal, um,

in a legal venue.

And, you know, the, the, his first run, he got a 13,

but he missed two years, you know, and, um, you know, he's,

I was like, oh, you know, he like lost to a yellow VN.

And then Ed was like, oh, what a piece of shit.

Lost to a VN.

Yeah.

Um, but then his next, his next run, he raced, uh, it wasn't,

it wasn't in five, um, competition or drive thing and extra,

whatever they called it.

And so it made him down in the end.

And that was a really cool chase, actually.

So just asking him, you guys, um, have, have actually, um,

done a quarter mile down, down a drag race track.

I've done it.

Oh, David, you've done a quarter mile drag.

I have, I have in the Dutton rally in 1995,

there was a mile sprint and I was in the scam.

And I came last.

I think we've, I've measured the scamp by calendar rather than

it was a, it was a shame actually, because in that,

that really dragged our school down.

It hadn't been for the quarter mile.

We ended up outright out like 16th out of 175 cars for the

event, for the whole event.

If we hadn't been second or third or fourth last or whatever

it was for that event, we, I ring would have been the top five.

Tell me David, did you at least,

Amazingly good.

Yeah, it was, it was more because a lot of it was navigational

sort of stuff.

Carter sort of stuff.

And Murray Atkinson, the mate that I did it with was the

current Victoria Modicana champion at the time.

So he could certainly drive very, very well in the

Modicana stages, but, and we just nailed the navigation

like every stage sort of thing.

We were always in the top two or three for the navigation.

So, but yeah, because we were so soft,

the quarter mile, it just dragged us down to the 16th.

Tell me David, did you at least drop the clutch a little bit?

You know, try to.

Actually, I footage of it somewhere.

I'll try and find it because I've got,

they team, they, they paired you up with two cars.

There were, you know, two cars for each, each drag.

It was at the Aerodrome at Ballarat,

Ballarat, yeah, Ballarat Aerodrome on the runway there.

And I was with an SL Benz actually, I think.

And I think from everywhere, we had the leap on it.

Like off the line, you know, it didn't end well.

The last time I was at the drags, like with, with the laser,

it was the one and only time I went to the Drazen in that car

was I like, I was racing my mate.

Well, the reason we went there is because a few of our mates

from high school used to race their Commodores and Falcons

and things about, you know, and they're like,

and my mate Adam, and he's come on the show,

he's got a, he's got a 265 Hemi Charger.

He's, he's like, we should do this.

And then all the boys like, yeah, why don't you guys race

your crappy little nuggets against each other

and see how the big boys play.

I'm like, all right.

So, so, so we went down and he was in his Astra SRI 2.2

and I had my little laser and, and we lined up,

we had a couple of races.

He beat me.

He had obviously more power and, you know, more torque.

I didn't mean to buy much though.

Like he was, he probably had me buy about a car.

But anyway, the last run of the night,

I got lined up against a VG Commodore

and this thing was a monster.

And it, it just launched like you wouldn't believe

and it was gone.

And my cousin was filming from the, from the,

from the grandstands.

And the, the, and the answer was like,

there goes the Commodore.

It's a, you know, 11 or whatever it was.

And he just pauses.

And the laser goes by.

He's like, and the laser comes through.

It was quite like an extensive pause,

which was, which was quite funny.

But I'll tell you what though,

when you line up and you stage up,

like your heart starts to run a little bit.

Like you, you feel, you, it's, it's, it's exciting.

Like you feel a bit of adrenaline getting through.

You're like, okay, you know, I've staged up and, you know,

the first stage, second stage.

And then, and then you're, you know, you're putting,

you're putting to gear and, you know,

it gets you going and like delay is not a fast car by,

by any stretch of the means, but you know, it's,

I still was like, you can come to the end of the run

and your heart's beating, you know, you know,

adrenaline's pumping and it's, it's a cool thing.

I think everybody should do it at least once, you know,

it's, it's definitely, yeah, it was, it was very fun.

But yeah, I was, I was super proud of my brother.

He, he took his F six out.

It's super hard to get any really good times in a manual

transmission car and he managed to do an 11,

it was an 11, 9, 11, 8, which is quite remarkable for,

you know, for a manual transmission car.

So he's, he's, he reckons he's got more in it.

He's got to do a few, a few more tweaks,

but he wants to go back and give it a call.

It's easily, it's easily got more in it.

When he gets that launch down pat,

that'll knock the times down heaps.

Absolutely.

He's like to me, it's the launch that kills him because like

the way he mowed down that M5 was ridiculous.

He was saying he had a lot of traction,

but to me it looked like he was actually spinning quite a bit.

He did.

It looked like he was spinning, I think.

And, but also I don't think he, he's,

he's like, I didn't really dump the clutch.

I just kind of feathered it and then kind of he's off the power
