All right, thank you so much for joining us on the CarPro Show. Jerry Reynolds, he is taking a holiday. So in today, Steve Dean and Laura Reynolds, we are taking your calls at 800-926-7777, and we promise Jerry we're not going to burn it down today. So let's go ahead and talk to Ruben in California. Ruben, what's your question for Steve Dean?

So I have a 27 Honda CRRV EXL with a 1.5 turbo engine, and you know, driving home from work, you know, my panel lit up that, you know, I was overheating.

And so I took my car to the mechanic to find out that it looks like the head gasket had leaked and possibly damaged cylinders 2 and 3, you know, to my surprise.

So I actually also took it to the dealer who confirmed the same thing. And from the dealer, it's made it repairs just to replace the, you know, the head gasket kits like 6500 bucks, but the recommendation is to replace the motor, depending on, you know, the miles on the motor might be a little less, might be a little more.

So I engage my own mechanic to go ahead and, you know, replace the motor, but once I replace the motor, it's like, you know, do I want to keep, you know, that CRV, I was very disappointed, you know, I've had the car eight years, 80,000 miles, you know, I've had many Honda that, you know, I've driven into the ground like 200,000 miles.

So, you know, it's like, do I invest, keep on investing on them? Honda, even though I had many Honda's and I love Honda.

Well, are you having the motor replaced as we speak or being done? Yes, we speak.

Okay. Are they replacing it with a comparable motor with the comparable mileage?

So the 80,000 ever right now, I believe he found the motor is like 55,000.

Okay. Make sure that you keep that documented so that when you do go to trade it or sell it or whatever, but at this point, you're investing the money in it, I would keep driving it until you start having any other issues with it at least.

I mean, you've invested the money in it to replace the motor. If you don't not comfortable with it at that point, then trade it in. If you're okay and you've already put 80,000 miles on the body and transmission, I just keep driving it.

Unless you just simply want to trade in for something new.

Yeah, my concern was, you know, is this going to happen again? Because I was doing a little research to find out that Honda's CRV, at least the 27, 2017, 18 is the known issue.

And you know, I did a little homework and I saw that there is some kind of a lawsuit that they filed in July against Honda in regards to the CRV.

Okay. Well, again, you're not going to hurt the value or improve it that drastically based on the year and the mileage on it. It's really going to be a preference.

If you've got a 55,000 mile motor in it and your mechanic tells you the motor is sound, then you've at least bought yourself some time to think about what you want to do with it.

Yeah, that's like I said, I love Honda. I love the CRV. It's like, would I consider, you know, the newer CRV?

Is there something comparable? I should be looking at, you know, like the road or, you know, the rev.

Well, the 25 rev four has some great reviews. I mean, as far as reliability, reputation, it has, you know, no widespread failures of any kind.

So the quality of the vehicles are just getting better, better, every year.

And you think those of the newer Honda CRVs would be just as good?

I certainly do. Honda makes a great product and the CRV is a great vehicle.

Yeah, like I said, I was just just disappointed that 80,000 that, you know, that happened.

I can understand that and I certainly feel your pain on something like that.

But if you can drive a vehicle for 80,000 miles before you have any kind of issues with it, I think you're doing pretty good.

All we can do is our best to maintain the vehicles and make sure they're serviced.

Yes, I'm thinking of purchasing a vehicle between these two. It's a Chevy equinox. I'd like to know if they have any problems.

And also the Ford 150 pickup, the V6, the transmission. I heard that transmission problems are between 120 to 150,000 miles.

Okay. Well, let's start with the equinox.

Chevy done a good job. Chevy done a good job on the equinox. I think something along those lines is going to be a Buick enclave.

I've had the opportunity to drive the enclave and actually was a very nice vehicle. I was very impressed with it.

And having driven probably somewhere around 3,000 cars over the last 40 years, it takes a lot to impress me when it comes to the A-car.

As far as the F-150, that's a pretty big swing between the equinox and the F-150. If I may ask, what is the difference that you're looking at there?

Well, it's the visibility then plus, it's just basically the V6 of 3.3, the 150.

And I like the way it looks and it looks like it's easy to handle.

I would not have issue with that as long as you're not hauling anything. Are you going to be pulling anything with it or have a trailer or anything that, I mean, any bigger that you wouldn't hook to the equinox?

No, no. I'm just small things, which I'm already retired. I'm going to be 70 next year and I just want to keep active.

So just things around, there's maybe gravel or small things maybe falling 100 pounds or 200 pounds.

Well, congratulations on retirement and me personally, I'm not quite there yet, but I would probably, if I'm going to do little handy jobs here in there, that truck would probably come in pretty handy for me.

Okay, and a reliability with transmission?

I think you're fine there. I haven't read anything on any kind of major issues with it.

Okay, and how about the EcoBoost?

EcoBoost has been out for some time now. I believe it came out. I want to say probably about 15 years ago, and they've just done nothing but improve it every year.

Doesn't bother me a bit.

Hey, Vincent.

Yes, yes, I'm here. I'm sorry, I thought you guys forgot me. My son has a 2011 Mustang, and it doesn't work right now.

They had blew up or something, and he wants to replace it with something similar. It's a Shelby GT500, and we're just trying to figure out a good reliable year back in the early 2010s to 2015 or whatever that body style was.

Well, Vincent, I'm going to tell you, I've been doing this a long, long time, and I am not an expert, but I'm very familiar with the Shelby GT and what a fantastic vehicle.

I don't know what's out there that's going to be in that year range, and I guess the power that that Shelby's going to be.

Personally, I'd be looking at another Shelby. In 2011 model, if you wanted something comparable, I say comparable, but I would think the Nissan GT-R has been one of my favorites when it first rolled out.

I mean, when it first rolled out with the amount of horsepower and the torque that that vehicle had was absolutely incredible.

That would be my choice if I was going to do it.

Okay, I got another question concerning the 2011 Mustang.

A spark plug popped out and a cylinder head kind of like broke and Ford put a sleeve to repair it.

And they said, sorry, this isn't the best thing we need a new head, but they don't make those heads anymore.

And the exact same thing happened again a few months later, and Ford doesn't want to take care of it.

Who would I contact to take care of that? Do you have any idea if I may go to corporate?

Yes, you probably need to go to corporate on that. If it's how long ago did they do that repair?

Probably within the last year.

Because typically, when they do repair, even if it's something along those lines, usually there is a parts warranty for 12 months.

Maybe not so much the labor, but there's usually a parts warranty for 12 months.

And maybe reach out to corporate direct and see what kind of customer good will they would offer.

Well, yeah, I mean, they told them it was a band-aid, it wasn't the right way to do it.

And that's all they could do.

And yeah, so yeah, we knew a performance car wasn't going to handle a band-aid like that.

Sure, I drive a 2023 Tesla Model Y.

We got about 47,000 miles on it right now.

I know the warranty is fixing to come off.

So I'm looking for an extended warranty company that covers the batteries.

Because everybody else has cut everybody else's cover and everything else other than the battery.

I would probably...

Pretty good for me to see if anything.

Well, I would probably recommend looking at the Tesla warranty.

You know, obviously Tesla has been out for a while now.

And I just don't know about other companies and what their kind of coverages are going to be.

An opinion as an accurate RDX.

And also the ADX. The ADX came out this year with an interest in an RDX.

The opinion reliability practical for senior woman longevity.

Any information that you can provide in helping make a decision on one?

The ADX is a great vehicle and there's a good balance between the power and the comfort in the car.

I don't think you can go wrong with that.

Why ADC are just out of curiosity? Are you a long time owner of an ADC?

No sir. I've had four Chevrolet cobalt disaster.

Four Chevrolet Toyota dots and it's time now Nissan. Right now I currently have a Honda HRV.

I saw a person with an RDX and that is just something that really impressed me.

I wanted your feedback and input on the RDX and to the quality of it and reliability of it.

How expensive is it to maintain compared to a Honda HRV or HRV?

I have an HRV right now. So what would the maintenance and well just the maintenance on an RDX?

You're going to be very comparable to your Honda. I would not have that as a concern at all. You're going to be very, very comparable.

Welcome to the car pro show. Jerry Reynolds is enjoying the holidays. Steve Dean is going to be in answering your questions. I shouldn't say he's going to be in. Steve Dean is here to answer your questions.

800 926 77 77. So let's go to Dallas, Texas and talk to Robert. Robert, what's your question for Steve?

Oh, yes, I'm sorry. He said it in a few minutes. I do it in question. I listen to Jerry quite often and I would end up using his program.

The original order 2012 Chevy cruise. We're on 175,000 looking to replace. Like so listen to Jerry show. I know it's a primary time of the year to do.

And I saw little deal did he on one of the little internet things say the absolute kill time is if you can wait till after Christmas and before New Year's, that's when they're the most hungry. I was one is his version of that.

And then just a basic model quiz between what I'm looking at is between say a trailblazer blazer equinox recommendation.

Robert, I'll be real honest with you. The car dealers and I guess the factories altogether in the past six months have been not experienced in the year that they were expecting November.

November is very, very soft form. Probably average deal was off somewhere between 20 and 30% and December started off here. The December has started off soft as well.

You literally could not pick a better time of the year to buy a car right now. You don't have to wait till the last week before after Christmas and all that dealers are typically very, very busy that last week

because everybody's trying to take tax advantages and just pull the trigger and all that. If you literally went out today, you would not hurt yourself because dealers are making some tremendous deals incentives or in some cases absolutely crazy on some of these models.

I saw that there's a lot of work. I might have been at home, but I looked at the dealerships like classic and sand packed Chevrolet. I saw that as yeah, I hear what you're saying. That's why I'm sitting there going, why would you want to work the last week? It looks like it's going on.

Robert, what is your zip code where you live? I'm right in between thousand four worth at seven five zero five one.

What is in you're thinking about Chevy? Yeah, I've passed with you this specific day recalls on these things and all these engine problems is forward and key and Hyundai are having at 71 years of age.

Even though I'm still working, this will be my last purchase vehicle and I don't want any of those kind of heartaches.

I want to know it's something and I've been a Chevy man my whole life and my other vehicle is an original owner 1993 Silverado pickup.

Well, 200,000 miles is still part like a kitten, so I kind of stay with the people who got me there usually.

Well, I'll tell you right there in grapevine is our good friend Jason Troutman. He's one of our corporate dealers. Yes, and he will take great care of you.

And last question, I know you have a hundred people calling you a red jury's little ditty about it.

I have enough for this, but it almost looks like it's more of a spike in the face to go in there and tell him you want to pay cash versus taking the three bates and the offers and the wonderful interest going on.

And then maybe they'll come down the road. Is that pretty much all true? That is very true. I've been in this industry for 40 years and people tend to think they go into the dealership and it's an advantage when they say, hey, I'm paying cash.

No, it's not advantage for the dealer because if you finance through the dealer or through the manufacturer, then they get paid a flat, you know, dollar amount or percentage on it.

And typically there is competitive. If not more competitive people's own banks and credit unions anyway. So if you're going to finance, but tell them you're going to pay cash, you're not creating any advantage for them.

So they're not going to be excited about it, but you know, that's part of life.

Well, one of your deals also said that some of these people have a minimum six month. If you wanted to try to pay it off early, you get a penalty. If you try to pay it off early, that hold true also.

No, that is not correct. Almost every contract known to man nowadays is a simple interest contract. No one can force you to stay in at any length of time. So if you did go into a dealership and you took advantage of the special finance rate,

because they give you an additional rebate or whatever, there is absolutely nothing that forces you to keep that contract in effect for six months. You could literally pay it off in 30, 60, 90 days. It doesn't matter. No one can restrict you.

Yeah, I know there's a lot of stuff on the internet that's very iffy that you read sometimes as well. I always try to rely on Larry's FAQ page.

Yeah, because what happens is if it's done within a certain period of time, then they can charge the dealer back whatever fee that they paid them for sending them the contract.

So if you kept it 90 days.

I'm looking along the lines of the trailblazer Blazer Equinox. The only thing I'm looking at what I'm reading about the tracks and the trailblazer is that they're evidently built for GM and Korea and their three cylinders.

I would have to do the research on that one for you before I commit to that.

Yeah, in other words, they say if you can be happy, not with the acceleration performance and love the gas mileage, the tracks trailblazer are your keys. And if you move more up into the Blazer Equinox deal, you're back into a four cylinder turbo with a regular automatic and then not CVT trans.

And actually, they have a little higher ground clearance and 90 degree opening doors, which at getting later on in life, I'm fixing to be 72. I'm figuring that's going to be a help for me too.

So that's where my eyes have been looking pretty much. And like I say, I will use Jerry's program probably grapevine's closer to me. Yes, like you said, zip wise.

I've never used this program, but I hear so many wonderful stories of people who did. So that seems to be the way to go.

That sounds great. Yeah, I don't think you can go wrong there, Robert. And I'm a fan of the Equinox as well.

My question is we're looking at a Lexus NX450 plug-in hybrid from my granddaughter and we're wondering whether it would be wise to buy a new one or look for a certified pre-owned vehicle.

Good morning, Dennis. How old is your granddaughter?

She's 25 years old and she's coming out of a cheap Cherokee that she bought new in 2014. It's been a great car. We've got about 88,000 miles on it and we're actually going to sell it ourselves.

Is she making a big leap? I mean, this is a big jump for her. Yes it is. We're just wondering what the right choice might be.

Well, I'll tell you my daughter has an RX and she enjoys it very much. My wife is actually looking at that as well. On the Lexus NX450 hybrid, great vehicle. I do like hybrids.

Most importantly, is do you need to adopt a grandson? No, it's a great choice.

I've got nine grandkids. I'm not sure I got room for another one. Congratulations. I promise you I'll be the lowest maintenance one.

The NX450 is a great choice, Dennis.

Okay, great. So you recommend buying a new one over a certified pre-owned. We found that the certified pre-owned are very close to what we can get working through a car pro dealer here in California.

They're very close and priced, so it might make sense just to buy a new one. Just out of curiosity, Dennis. Can you give me yours up code real quick?

Sure. It's 92821 and we have been dealing with Lexus of Newport Beach.

So you've been dealing with Chris Clark over there? We sure have. He's a great guy. He's a great car pro dealer.

You can't go wrong there. In the certified pre-owned, don't be shy of that at all. Lexus does a very extensive certification process and their warranty is darn near what the new car warranty would be.

So you can't go wrong with the certified pre-owned if you're trying to, you know, kind of, I guess budget for a little less expense.

Yeah, we found that they're about, you know, three, four, five thousand dollars less for a certified pre-owned but, you know, there's nothing like that new car smell.

I know it. I like the way you think. Chris Clark will take great care of you there in Newport.
