The CarPro Radio Show kicks off with Nissan’s refreshed Pathfinder pitch—V6 power, a 9-speed automatic, up to 8 seats, and big hauling for family chaos. The bulk of the call-in advice focuses on shopping strategy and “keep it simple” vehicles: a Forerunner buyer wants low-tech reliability (no turbos, no big screens), while another manual-transmission seeker is pointed toward the Integra Type S or Toyota GR options. Jerry also tackles dealer bait-and-switch concerns after FTC warnings, plus towing guidance for an RV buyer (gas vs diesel).
“Up to 8 passengers” means the SUV can seat a lot of people. That’s useful for big families or carpooling.
Seating capacity is a key spec for family SUVs. Mentioning “room for up to 8 passengers” signals a layout designed for larger groups, which affects how the second and third rows are packaged.
"It's also available with 7-passenger seating and 2nd row captain's chairs."
“7-passenger seating” means there are seven seats inside. It’s usually a comfort-focused setup for families.
7-passenger seating indicates a configuration that typically uses a more spacious second row and may reduce the number of seats compared to an 8-seat layout. It’s often chosen for comfort and easier access to the third row.
"It's also available with 7-passenger seating and 2nd row captain's chairs."
Captain’s chairs are separate seats in the middle row, not one big bench. They’re usually more comfortable and easier to move around.
Captain’s chairs are individual, separated seats (instead of a bench) in the second row. They typically improve comfort and make it easier for passengers to get in and out of the third row.
"That's why we switched from Ford to Toyota in 2018. [245.0s] Well, you can't go wrong with the forerunner."
Toyota is known for emphasizing reliability and simpler powertrains in many models. The speaker credits Toyota (starting in 2018) with matching their preferences: fewer “tech” elements and a more straightforward ownership experience.
"And I would I would subscribe to you that I personally use auto trader. And you can set all kind of parameters there and then have it email you when one shows up that fits your parameters."
AutoTrader is a website where people list cars for sale. You can tell it what you want (like price and mileage), and it will email you when a car shows up that matches.
AutoTrader is an online marketplace where you can search for used and new vehicles. The key advantage mentioned is setting saved search parameters (like price, color, and mileage) so listings can be emailed when they match.
"And you can set all kind of parameters there and then have it email you when one shows up that fits your parameters. You can get as specific as color, as miles, as price, whatever you want."
A saved search is when you set rules for the kind of car you want. Then the site only shows (or emails) cars that fit those rules.
Saved search parameters are filters you set in a listing site to narrow down results. In this segment, the host highlights using filters like color, mileage, and price to find matches quickly.
"Do they do they require premium fuel or is it one of the one of those you can run regular?"
Premium fuel usually has a higher octane rating than regular. Whether an engine truly needs it depends on the vehicle’s compression ratio and knock-sensor tuning; some cars can run on regular without damage, but may reduce performance or efficiency.
"So the old GX's did take a drop in value. Interesting."
“Value drop” means the car is worth less now than it used to be. That’s normal as cars get older and new ones replace them.
When the host says older GX models “did take a drop in value,” they’re referencing depreciation—how a vehicle’s resale price changes as it ages and as newer models come out. Depreciation affects what you pay today and what you’ll likely get if you sell later.
"And get that V8. And I think you'll have a great vehicle."
A V8 is a type of engine with eight cylinders. It usually provides more pulling power, but it can use more fuel than smaller engines.
A V8 is an engine configuration with eight cylinders arranged in a “V” shape. In SUVs like the Lexus GX, choosing a V8 typically means stronger low-end torque and easier passing/towing compared with smaller engines, though it can cost more at the pump.
"Check out our treasure. You bet. And and I've got I've got great Lexus dealer in Austin."
Lexus is Toyota’s luxury car brand. Here, they’re talking about Lexus dealerships and the vehicles they can help you find.
Lexus is Toyota’s luxury brand, known for comfort-focused interiors and long-term ownership appeal. In this segment, the host is steering the buyer toward Lexus inventory and dealership resources in Texas.
"But it's so hard to find a manual transmission car. Yep. So that's what I want."
A manual transmission is a car where you change gears yourself using a clutch and a gear stick. Some people prefer it because it feels more connected and fun to drive.
A manual transmission (stick shift) uses a clutch pedal and gear lever, requiring the driver to select gears manually. Many buyers specifically seek manuals because they can be more engaging to drive and may offer different driving feel than automatics.
"So I think 15 years old and regardless of all that, I need your guidance. I don't like driving an automatic. I like something big, but I want something with a manual transmission."
An automatic transmission shifts for you. The speaker doesn’t like that and prefers a more hands-on driving feel.
An automatic transmission changes gears without the driver operating a clutch or shift lever. The speaker contrasts it with a manual to explain what kind of driving experience they want.
That’s a Ford F-250 truck from 1997, and “4x4” means it can drive on all four wheels. Trucks like this are usually priced based on condition, mileage, and how useful the drivetrain is.
This is a 1997 Ford F-250 Super Duty pickup in a 4x4 configuration. The F-250 is a heavy-duty truck line, and the 4x4 drivetrain is a big factor in how it’s valued and marketed.
"And a crew cab with a six and a half foot bed with a camping shell..."
A crew cab is the truck version with four doors, so passengers can get in and out more easily. That usually makes it more desirable than a smaller-cab setup.
A “crew cab” is a truck body style with four full-size doors and more rear-seat space than a regular cab. It’s a major spec that affects buyer appeal and resale value because it’s more practical for families and work crews.
"That's a great consignment vehicle, Joe. That's one where you need somebody that understands what..."
Consignment means you let a dealer/specialist sell your truck for you. They handle the listing and selling, and you get paid based on an agreed price.
A “consignment vehicle” is sold by a dealer or specialist on the owner’s behalf, usually with an agreed price and commission. The benefit is that the seller can leverage the specialist’s pricing knowledge and marketing to reach the right buyers.
"If you'll go to my website, carpro.com, at the top of the page, click sell a car. And then there's one place that you can get a quick offer,"
They’re telling you to go to their website to sell your car. The site helps you get offers and understand what you’ll receive.
The host directs listeners to carpro.com to start the process of selling a car. It’s presented as a platform that can generate offers and guide you through selling.
"Then the other place is retail my ride. [1046.4s] That's what they do. [1047.6s] They put cars on consignment."
This sounds like a service that helps you sell your car for a higher price. They list it and market it, take a fee, and then pay you what’s left after the sale.
“Retail my ride” is described as a service that sells your car through consignment rather than buying it outright. The company markets the vehicle, takes a cut, and then pays you the difference after it sells.
"And then there's the 10 most stolen vehicles in the U.S., according to the NICB, the National Insurance Crime Bureau."
NICB is a U.S. organization that tracks car theft information. They publish data that helps show which cars and areas are most targeted.
NICB stands for the National Insurance Crime Bureau, which compiles vehicle theft data used by insurers and researchers. In this segment, it’s the source for the “top 10 most stolen vehicles” and theft concentration by metro and state.
"So next week in the newsletter, I've got Kelly Blue Books, best resale value award winners. [1311.3s] Oh, I like that."
Kelly Blue Book is a company that helps estimate car prices. They also publish lists about which cars keep their value best. People use it to help figure out what a used car might be worth.
Kelly Blue Book (KBB) is a well-known vehicle pricing and valuation company in the U.S. Their awards and lists are based on how well different vehicles retain value over time. Listeners often use KBB guidance to estimate what a car is worth and to compare models.
"Usually, they're plain Jane trucks.
[1386.4s] And if that's okay with you, yeah, you'll find them out there.
[1389.6s] Chevrolet still makes a regular cab.
[1391.5s] Ford makes a regular cab."
Chevrolet is a big U.S. truck maker. They still sell some two-door “regular cab” trucks, which are often used for work because they’re straightforward and cost less.
Chevrolet is one of the major U.S. truck brands that continues to offer regular-cab (two-door) pickup configurations. In fleet and work-truck markets, these simpler cab styles are popular because they’re practical and often cheaper.
"So is that like a fleet pickup?
[1400.0s] Usually.
[1401.5s] Yeah, usually, yes.
[1403.2s] But not always."
A “fleet pickup” is a truck bought for business use, not just personal driving. Companies often choose simpler two-door cab setups because they’re usually cheaper and easier to manage across many trucks.
A “fleet pickup” is a truck purchased and used by companies (like service contractors, utilities, or delivery operations) rather than individual retail buyers. Fleet vehicles are often ordered in simpler configurations—like regular cabs—because they reduce purchase price and keep maintenance and options standardized.
"Now, if you wanted more stuff on it
and you just wanted a regular cab, you can order it."
A “regular cab” is the basic pickup cab style with two doors. It usually has less room behind the front seats than bigger cab types.
“Regular cab” refers to a pickup truck cab configuration with two doors and typically less rear seating space than extended or crew cabs. It’s often chosen for a simpler, more compact truck layout and sometimes for better bed space.
"Okay, so it's Chevy and Ford,
are the two that you can order?"
“Ford” is another big U.S. truck brand. The caller can choose a Ford build instead of Chevy.
“Ford” refers to Ford Motor Company, another major U.S. automaker known for pickups and trucks. Here, it’s part of the ordering choice set—buyers can order either a Ford or Chevy configuration.
"Okay, so it's Chevy and Ford,
are the two that you can order?"
“Chevy” means Chevrolet, one of the big U.S. truck brands. They’re saying you can choose a Chevrolet option when ordering.
“Chevy” is the common name for Chevrolet, a major U.S. automaker and truck brand. In this context, it indicates the caller can choose a Chevrolet model/build when placing an order.

RV
"So I'm going to buy an RV, a small RV,
probably about 2,000 pounds most, or 2,500."
An RV is a vehicle you can live in while traveling—like a mobile home. Smaller RVs are usually easier to tow and park.
An RV (recreational vehicle) is a self-contained vehicle used for travel and camping, often including sleeping space, a small kitchen, and bathroom facilities. The caller is considering a smaller RV, which typically affects towing requirements, fuel economy, and how easy it is to park.
"And so I'm hearing both different ways about diesel or not diesel, what's best for traveling mountains and just all the conditions of the United States."
Diesel is a type of engine that often pulls heavy loads better because it makes strong pulling power at low speeds. It can cost more to buy and may cost more to maintain, so it’s not always worth it for everyone.
Diesel engines use compression ignition and typically provide strong low-end torque, which can help when towing heavy loads. The tradeoff is that diesel usually costs more upfront and can have higher maintenance costs depending on the vehicle and usage.
"you're still going to be good up to 9,000 pounds or more."
They’re saying that even if you later get a bigger trailer, you can still be okay up to around 9,000 pounds. The exact limit depends on the specific truck setup.
This is the upper towing weight example the speaker uses to reassure listeners that even if they upgrade trailers later, the recommended truck class/engine choices can still be adequate. As always, the real limit is the truck’s published tow rating for that exact configuration.
"We sold 80 plus cars on that Saturday and they sent four people in with hidden cameras."
They’re talking about people secretly recording what happened at the dealership. The goal is usually to see how the business really operates, without anyone knowing they’re being watched.
The speaker describes undercover “hidden cameras” used to observe dealership behavior. In car retail, this is often done to document sales practices, customer interactions, or compliance issues.
"It's a little more fuel efficient and nearly as expensive as a Suburban or a Grand Wagoneer."
The Grand Wagoneer is a more upscale, luxury-style big SUV. The speaker is comparing it to the Expedition in terms of cost and how it fits the buyer’s tastes.
The Jeep Grand Wagoneer is a luxury-oriented full-size SUV positioned against other high-end three-row models. The host compares its pricing and fuel efficiency expectations to the Expedition, and later ties it to the listener’s preferences.

Radio Show in Texas, he's a member of the Texas Radio Hall of Fame.
Along with fellow members, Dan Rather and George Carlin.
His co-host, Todd Chambliss, just became a member of Applebee's Hall of Fame for finishing
off 84 check-in nuggets without using a dipping sauce.
Now let's get to straight talk and honest answers about everything automotive on the
CarPro show.
Thank you so much for joining us.
Yes, this is the CarPro show and we are here at the end of March, into the first quarter,
into the month.
It's all coming to a head here in the next 10 days.
So if you've been thinking about making the move, I'm going to tell you now's the time
to do so.
Todd Chambliss is my trusty co-host.
I was waiting.
I said, where is he going?
I wasn't sure.
Often called the roadmaster in some areas.
And the Dallas for Ortho area, you are well known as the roadmaster.
That's what everybody calls me now.
And I'm going to go and just wear that with pride.
Just like an old Buick.
Exactly, runs like one too.
All right, I don't have any lines open right now, but when somebody hangs up, the number
is 800-926-7777.
Real quick, if you are not a newsletter subscriber, please give it a try.
I think you'll love it.
People, there's we, nobody ever leaves.
Everybody loves it.
They always question themselves, why didn't I get this sooner?
And I have got a barn butter coming for you next week.
Oh, do you?
That's a great information there.
And my new song, if you missed it in hour number one of the show, then it will be there
for you next week.
And already we've had just a gazillion phone calls from people saying they loved it.
Lots good feedback.
So thank you.
Thank you for that with everybody.
College station Texas, we go to Dave.
Dave, thank you for holding.
What can I do for you?
Hi, so my wife has a 2014 forerunner that I bought used for her in 2018, got a good deal
on it.
It's now got 225,000 miles on it, runs perfectly, never haven't had any problems with it in
very good shape, but it's reaching the point where I'm starting to think, it's got a lot
of miles and she drives alone a lot.
So I'm not in a hurry.
The car's fine and I don't want to pay a top dollar to buy that guy's 14,000 mile car
that talked earlier.
So I'm wondering how can I go about finding something that's a good deal over, you know,
over the next, you know, six months or so.
So because that's what I want.
I want to deal.
And about what year are you going to be looking at when you start looking?
About four years old.
I don't like turbos.
I don't like 10 speed automatics.
I don't like giant LCD screens.
That's why we switched from Ford to Toyota in 2018.
Well, you can't go wrong with the forerunner.
That's fact.
It's probably one of the, if not the most reliable SUVs ever made.
And look, it's there's no secret to the to the vehicle.
It's stayed the same for a very long time.
So the newer ones, as they aged and they kept coming, you know, it's it's not full
of, you know, it's not full of technology and it's a pretty simple vehicle.
And that's probably one of the reasons it goes so well.
So the way to get a deal on one is just keep looking.
And I would I would subscribe to you that I personally use auto trader.
And you can set all kind of parameters there and then have it email you
when one shows up that fits your parameters.
You can get as specific as color, as miles, as price, whatever you want.
You can get it there at auto trader.
The only thing I would tell you is don't limit your miles to 25 miles
from your zip code, open, open it up to 300 miles and and look when something
pops up and says, here you go, we found one that fits your criteria.
And then take a look at it.
You'll get a feel for pricing really quick.
Now, I will tell you that typically when a all new vehicle comes out
like the new forerunner, then the old ones drop in value.
We have seen the opposite of that so far.
Because people like people who know that old one, people that had that
particular era of a forerunner knows how good a vehicle they have.
And they want another one that they're like you in many ways.
They don't want to they want to go to a forerunner.
They don't want a turbo.
You know, they don't care about bells and whistles.
They're looking for good, solid transportation that is fun to drive
and it looks good.
It's exactly why people buy forers.
So if I were to get a Lexus, what's the last year of a V8 GX?
Oh, 20.
Twenty twenty one, I think now I'd have to look that up.
That's a great Google question.
Do they do they require premium fuel or is it one of the one of those
you can run regular?
It would. Yeah, it would do fine on regular.
Todd, you had you had a what year was your GX?
Do you remember?
Uh, so I think that yeah, it was a twenty twenty or twenty twenty one.
Either way, yeah, and it was the V8.
And yeah, yeah, I mean, it was a flawless vehicle.
When the best rides I've ever had in my life, I loved it.
It just I was ready for more bells and whistles.
And that was kind of the issue.
That was the issue, Dave.
Todd, Todd, the bells and whistles guy.
I like the gadgets.
He loves gadgets.
Let's see, you were looking for less screen and less stuff in there.
And this would be a perfect choice for you.
Yeah, the GX is is real basic.
I mean, it didn't change for over a decade.
It's a great choice.
And and that's one now that's a little opposite scenario
than what we talked about with the forerunner.
The new GX has been sold out essentially since the day it started.
So the old GX's did take a drop in value.
Interesting.
It is. Love and Alexis.
Well, let's get her one.
Oh, come on, let's do it.
She deserves it.
How long has she put up with you?
Thirty years.
Oh, well, a woman's a saint.
So there's that.
Let me talk to her.
He's not here.
Come on, come on.
Darn it.
I was fixing to cost you some money, pal.
And I'm telling you, I was going to cost you some serious.
Now, that's probably a great choice.
Give you something different.
And you'll you both would love the ride and drive the rides.
Great. I think the ride is far superior to the forerunner.
And get that V8.
And I think you'll have a great vehicle.
Check out our treasure.
You bet. And and I've got I've got great Lexus dealer in Austin.
I got two great ones in Dallas, Fort Worth.
I got a great one in Houston.
I got a great one in Lubbock.
So if you open up your search area,
maybe we'll get lucky and you'll get to deal with one of my dealers
that's got a bargain.
Sometimes after a car sits in inventory for 60 days,
dealers have a rule that they have to go to auction.
And so toward the end of that 60 day period,
they drop the price dramatically.
That's another thing that auto trainer will tell you is if there's a price drop.
Good to talk to you.
You don't have to go it alone when you buy your next vehicle.
The car pro will help you for free.
Free. Call the chase dot com car pro listener line now at 1-800-926-7777.
Recently in the car pro newsletter,
Jerry wrote an article about some of the car dealer advertising laws
and the bait and switch pricing schemes and all that kind of thing.
And it was very informative.
And it's kind of funny how interesting how you wrote that.
And that was not that long ago, like in the last month.
Right. It was two weeks.
Two weeks ago.
And now here's the news that you shared in the newsletter
that the Federal Trade Commission has sent warning letters
to 97 dealer groups about the same thing.
That's a lot of dealers too.
97 dealer groups that could be hundreds of dealers.
So are these are these linked?
Do you think the FTC has been listening to the car pro show?
Well, I don't know.
I reached out to them and offered help to them.
And then this came out.
Could be a little connection.
Well, but that's given the government a lot of credit for moving quickly.
Well, there's that, although, you know, it's if there's some fraud
or whatever going on there, they're looking to find it.
So here's the thing.
Don't make Jerry mad.
And don't certainly don't go and try to go and mess with his listeners either.
No.
Because that's where he gets into, you know, full pit bull mode
and he starts taking care of business.
But I get mad at dealers that advertise deceptively
because people fall for it.
And in the good dealers like on our show, don't get a chance to sell that car.
And people.
Good grief.
They get in there and they don't find out for a long time that it's a bad deal
or that they're not getting the price that they think they're getting.
And then it's too late.
They don't want to start over somewhere else.
So they buy the car and reward bad behavior.
Exactly.
It's too deep in the deal and you just worn out and you're just ready to get it over.
Yeah.
Yeah.
That's sad.
Let's go to Houston Nawaz.
Welcome.
Hi.
What can I do for you?
How are you?
Can you hear me?
Okay.
Yes, sir.
I hear you just fine, my friend.
What can I help you with?
So I spoke to you about five weeks ago and I found out that I have salvaged
a title on my Civic anyway, regardless of that, I'm getting rid of it.
But it's so hard to find a manual transmission car.
Yep.
So that's what I want.
Or a truck.
In fact, a truck is even tougher.
But long story short is I learned how to drive on this.
You're going to laugh at this.
I don't know if you know what this car is.
A Mazda B2000.
Oh, yeah.
That was one ugly car, man.
Wow.
But you know what, it ran like the wind.
It was a four speed and I woke up in the morning and I illegally drove to the DPS
and got my driver's license.
So I think 15 years old and regardless of all that, I need your guidance.
I don't like driving an automatic.
I like something big, but I want something with a manual transmission.
Any guidance you have for me?
Are you just performance mean anything to you?
No, sir.
I'm not looking for performance.
I'm looking for just that thing we had in the 70s, you know, in the 80s where, you know,
a manual shift just meant driving.
So I don't know if that makes sense to you.
And I apologize.
You hear some horns honking.
I'm sitting in the Bucky's parking lot in Maryland.
Bucky's my favorite place.
Look at the Acura Integra and the Type S.
It's not, I wouldn't put it in the performance category.
It's not an economy car by any stretch, but it's probably the biggest
without going to a BMW M4, which is a performance car.
No, I understand that.
I don't appreciate the German cars.
I'm not looking for performance.
I'm just looking for a nice, smooth manual transmission to enjoy just driving to work,
getting home, you know, just it's so hard to find.
I know.
Two choices, the Integra and the Toyota GR.
It's available in the Supra.
It's available in a manual this year.
And if you want to go with an enjoyable SUV,
you can get the Ford Bronco in a manual.
It's fun to drive.
It's a fun one.
Is it naturally aspirated?
I don't like the almost turbo non-engine.
No, it's not.
It's a 2.3.
It's a 2.3 liter four cylinder turbo, but it's a good one.
I wouldn't be worried about that.
But those are the only things that come to mind, my friend.
I wish I had a magic answer for you, but that's it.
I appreciate the call.
And we go to Joe in Stafford, Texas.
Joe, welcome.
What can I do for you?
Good afternoon, Jerry.
Pleasure to talk to you.
Thank you, sir.
I've got a 1997 F-250 4x4 with a 7.3.
Oh, nice.
And a crew cab with a six and a half foot bed with a camping
shell that's all white with a brush guard and a heavy duty
bumper and step bumpers.
Anyway, long story short, I can't get anybody to give me a
decent price on what it's actually worth.
Well, I got 256,000 miles off.
Which is nothing for that engine.
I mean, greatest diesel ever made.
Ford almost put me out of business in 2003
when they went to the sixth leader.
God, I lost so many customers over that.
That's a great consignment.
That's a great consignment vehicle, Joe.
That's one where you need somebody that understands what
you got and will ask the money for it and knows where to market it.
And that's what this company that I use, that's part of my show,
does the best.
They'll know exactly what to do with that.
If you'll go to my website, carpro.com, at the top of the page, click sell a car.
And then there's one place that you can get a quick offer,
which is going to be in line probably with every other offer you've had on it.
Then the other place is retail my ride.
That's what they do.
They put cars on consignment.
They market them.
They'll take a little cut off the top.
They'll cut you a check for the difference.
You'll know up front when they sell it what you're going to get.
And they won't accept a deal on it unless you okay at first.
So there's no risk in it whatsoever.
But it's a way, if you're not in a hurry, to get the most money for your car.
And you've got the perfect vehicle for that.
They'll understand what you have.
And some of the young people in the car business, dealerships,
they're just seeing a 97 Ford.
They're not seeing the best diesel engine ever made.
And one of the best trucks ever made.
Do that.
That'll get you the most money.
Hey, Donald.
Really flying on that treadmill.
I'm trying to run as fast as T-Mobile 5G home internet, Zach.
Well, you better pick it up.
Because now T-Mobile has the fastest 5G home internet according to Eucla speed test.
Really?
How's this?
T-Mobile's faster than that, bud.
Speed up.
Plus, they've got a five-year price guarantee.
Come on.
Faster.
How could I go any faster?
Channel the speed of T-Mobile 5G home internet.
Think 100 meter dash fast.
Think drag racing fast.
Think speed skating fast.
Now let's bump up your speed notch.
Hey, whoa, whoa.
That's too fast.
You'll be all right.
Just walk it off.

Well, new data and in some lists to consider from the newsletter from this week
that Jerry's put together.
First of all, there's a list of the fastest and slowest selling used cars.
According to new data from IC cars, they took a one to five year
used car sales and did all the comparisons there.
You can go and check that list out, of course, in the newsletter.
They do good work there.
That's you use them pretty often too.
I do.
I love what they do.
And I was kind of surprised by the slowest selling used car for February
for a Volvo CX-60 hybrid.
Yeah.
Okay.
Is there something up with that?
A lot of people, I mean, Volvos, you know, I like them, but...
I think they're cool, but...
A lot of people don't.
And then there's the 10 most stolen vehicles in the U.S., according to the NICB,
the National Insurance Crime Bureau.
There's the top 10 metro areas by total vehicle thefts as well.
I guess I'm not surprised by that.
L.A., New York, Chicago, and Houston, number four.
DFW and the top 10, number six.
And then there's the top 10 states by total vehicle thefts.
Other things to look at too.
Some interesting reading there.
If you like seeing some data from lists, this is a chock full of them.
A couple of good stories there.
And of course, always find stuff like that in the newsletter,
which you should be connecting with every single week.
If you do not, go to carpro.com at the bottom.

I'm big on resale value.
So next week in the newsletter, I've got Kelly Blue Books,
best resale value award winners.
Oh, I like that.
That's going to be a big one.
That's the one I look forward to every year.
Okay.
Mary in Houston, Texas.
Welcome to the Car Pro Show.
How can I help you, Mary?
Mary's in the car there.
Mary, are you there?
Hello?
Yes, Mary.
What can I do for you?
I'm looking for a pickup with three doors instead of four.
We don't need that many doors.
And I don't know if they ever make it anymore.
No, they don't.
They're all four doors now.
Now, some of the trucks have two regular doors
and two smaller doors.
But the three-door Ford used to build one.
It was called a Super Cab.
And you could open the back door on the driver's side.
And it was a little small door.
But no, there's no three doors anymore.
You're going to have to get that extra door
and just not use it.
Okay, what about a two-door pickup?
Yeah, there's two-door pickup still.
There's regular cab trucks out there.
Usually, they're plain Jane trucks.
And if that's okay with you, yeah, you'll find them out there.
Chevrolet still makes a regular cab.
Ford makes a regular cab.
You can get a two-door.
So is that like a fleet pickup?
Usually.
Yeah, usually, yes.
But not always.
Now, if you wanted more stuff on it
and you just wanted a regular cab, you can order it.
And it'll take a little while to get it.
But you can get exactly what you want that way.
It sounds like that would be the best thing for you,
to be honest with you.
Okay, so it's Chevy and Ford,
are the two that you can order?
Yeah, you can order either one.
What part of Houston are you in?
Well, thank you so much.
All right, Mary, thanks for calling.
I appreciate you.
And anytime, let me know if I can help you.
Kevin, Kema, Texas, welcome.
What can I do for you, man?
Yeah, hey, Jerry, how are you?
I'm doing fine.
Thank you.
Good.
I'll answer my own question.
Hey, so what I'm going to do is I am retired,
just recently retired, and I plan on traveling the country for a while.
So I'm going to buy an RV, a small RV,
probably about 2,000 pounds most, I guess, or 2,500.
And I'm just wondering, I'm not a car guy,
so I'm not very good at this.
And so I'm hearing both different ways about diesel
or not diesel, what's best for traveling mountains
and just all the conditions of the United States.
Yeah, and you'll talk to a lot of different people
that will give you different answers.
For me, unless you're getting up into a large trailer,
the extra cost of a diesel and the extra maintenance
that's got to be done is not worth it.
So I would go, if I were you, tell me again,
how big you think the trailer's going to be?
I'm just looking at something small.
So I've looked at 21, 20 feet, 24 feet.
I'm trying to say smaller, 2,000 pounds, 2,500 pounds.
No, they're going to be a lot more than that, buddy.
If you go 21 to 24 feet, you're going to be up in the
5,000 pound range, which is okay.
Any truck will do that nowadays.
Any truck will do that.
They're all now gasoline engines.
They're rated for anywhere from 9,000 to 13,000 pounds.
And you can't go back too far
because there's been a huge change in the past five years
on what trucks will tow.
So for instance, you're looking for a used truck.
You go back to a 21 or a 22 model.
F-150, Silverado, Sierra, Tundra, Ram, it don't matter.
A small V8 will tow easily 7,500 pounds.
And it'll do it in the mountains as well.
So you're going to spend, if you look at a half ton diesel,
a half ton gas engine, and then you look at a three-quarter ton diesel engine,
you're talking about a difference there of $10,000 or so.
And it's just overkill.
Will that diesel last longer?
Yeah, it will.
But do you need it?
No, you don't.
I personally, for towing, I like the 3.5 liter EcoBoost.
Engine from Ford.
Twin turbos, so you got the power when you're going up a mountain,
but you're not using gas, you're not using great amounts of gas when you're towing regularly.
Now, with that said, no truck gets good gas mileage when you're towing 5,000 or 6,000 pounds.
But it's better than most.
So I'd look at the 3.5 EcoBoost from Ford or the 5.3 from General Motors,
the 5.7 Hemi from Aram, and in the Tundra, the 5.7 V8.
Any of those used will do a great job.
Even if you trade the trailer later, if you go bigger, and a lot of people do,
you're still going to be good up to 9,000 pounds or more.
I don't know, okay, I see, I see.
I'm going to stay, I just want to stay with Ford.
I'm a Ford guy.
Okay.
So I've got an F-150 right now.
And I can probably even use that, but it's getting a little bit older.
I'm just going to give that to a friend of mine and just get something used.
Actually, I was listening to what you were saying to Joe just before me about how great
that truck is that he had.
What year was that?
97?
97, yeah, so that's not going to be good.
It's a three-quarter ton.
This is a three-quarter ton diesel.
You're going to seriously hurt your ride quality when you go to a three-quarter ton.
So when you're not towing, you're going to be miserable.
So if you like Fords, get a 3.5 EcoBoost.
I would not get to 2.7.
I would get to 3.5.
And I got great Ford dealers there near you at my website, my friends.

So entertainment rating this week in the newsletter from Jerry and his stories.
They're called true stories from a former car dealer.
And this is number five, the time that Jerry goes into work on a Monday, gets a fax back
when he got faxes and had a letterhead from NBC, a Peacock logo.
It was from Dateline NBC, which you never want to receive.
No, not in the car business.
They had sent people to go to your dealership and to basically kind of
view and investigate the way you did business.
So it started this whole chain of activities where you called everybody into a meeting room
and you started talking about what happened.
It's an entertaining, it has a good ending to it.
But it's a, but I'm sure it's probably a white knuckle ride for you to even remember that.
Whoa, that's because if they put you on TV in a situation where there's any,
they went into a bunch of dealerships in different parts of the country.
They were there on Saturday.
I got the fax on Monday.
We sold 80 plus cars on that Saturday and they sent four people in with hidden cameras.
Oh man.
Something's gonna go wrong.
Something will go wrong.
Fortunately, you came out smelling okay like a rose,
but a whole lot of effort went into getting to that point.
You see these gray hairs?
I can thank NBC for some of those.
Bobby, New Braunfels, Texas.
Bobby, what's going on?
Man, not a lot.
Thank you for taking my phone call.
You're a bad pal.
Thanks for holding it.
Story.
Yeah, listening to that story gives me anxiety.
It makes my stomach hurt.
Telling you.
Real quick question for you.
So my wife has a 23 suburban and I bought it brand new and we've had several electrical
problems with that car since and I just got it back from the dealership and they said they
got it all fixed, but she's basically saying she doesn't like it anymore, doesn't trust it,
and doesn't really want to go back to another suburban or I was thinking a GMC.
She drove a Wagoneer and when she'd gone on a trip in Colorado and said she really likes that.
So we were looking to get that, but then I've had some friends say that's not a good vehicle.
It's got problems.
So we have four kids and we have horses and so she wants to be able to pull a horse trailer
and then needs full drive because we, you know, there's some gravel roads that get a little muddy
sometimes.
So what is your thought?
What are your thoughts on the Wagoneer, the Grand Wagoneer, whatever it is?
And you have any other options?
You know, it's probably, when I reviewed it, it was probably one of the most enjoyable
large SUVs that I've ever driven.
I loved it.
There have been some issues.
I won't lie to you.
I won't, I mean, I don't know who told you that, but they were right.
There's been some things that were wrong with the early models.
I haven't heard anything with newer ones like the 2025s or even if the 2026s are out yet,
I think they are, but I haven't heard anything lately about problems, which makes me think
that they probably got them fixed and handled.
But it's one of the absolute most enjoyable vehicles I've driven.
Has she, as she looked at the new Ford Expedition yet?
No.
She really should.
I wasn't a huge fan of those in the past, but boy, when the 2025 came out,
they got my attention.
And you can read my review.
If you'll put Expedition in the search box at the top, it'll pull up my review.
It's a great SUV and I've heard of zero quality problems with that.
If you get the extended version, it's going to be about the same size as the Suburban.
It's a little more fuel efficient and nearly as expensive as a Suburban or a Grand Wagoneer.
So let me tell you, I would roll the dice on the Wagoneer if she really loves it,
but I would have her look at the Expedition and see what she thinks.
If she loves that Grand Wagoneer, she may not like the Ford.
But either way, I'd go with it with the Wagoneer.
I'm not scared of it.
It's not all about cars and trucks.
It's about what suits how you drive.

Colleen, you got the last word this hour.
What could I do for you?
Hello.
First of all, I'm talking about my 2014 Kia Soul.
I bought it new, but one thing I need to mention, I'm 88 years old.
The only thing I wish I had are the bells and whistles.
I do not have a backup camera or anything of that nature,
but I absolutely still love my car, feel comfortable in it.
Do not enjoy getting into my husband's 26 Honda.
I just feel like a whole different ball game and I like mine.
I'm wanting to know what advice you would have
about adding some kind of a package.
I don't really know what I'm talking about
to give me a backup camera and stuff.
Yeah, Colleen, when you go to adding things like that, it's never very good.
A backup camera is no good if the picture is really grainy
and that sort of thing.
You can't really see out of it very well.
I can't recommend that.
There's been so many safety features that have come out since 2014.
I think you'd be better off moving up maybe to a 2020 Kia Soul,
maybe a 2021 with low miles.
They're super cheap because the car's been discontinued,
but that doesn't matter.
There'll still be plenty of parts around.
I think when you go to adding things that are safety related like that,
you need blind spot monitoring to help you.
You need sensors in the bumpers to tell you
when you're getting too close to something.
You really need to trade to a newer vehicle, kiddo.
I just can't recommend anything else.
So look around.
Get a 2021, 2022 or maybe a new one.
They're cheap too.
I appreciate the call.
