March Madness, of course, just around the corner, and the weather is changing as we have certainly

experienced here with all the rain, thunderstorms, showers, and wind and cooler temps today.

And you get jacked out of an hour's sleep tonight.

Oh, I hate that part of it.

I do too.

I know that parts of, I think, is it British Columbia, or they're going to do it one more

time and then stay in daylight saving time and...

Why can't we do that?

I don't care which way you do it either.

Just pick one and stay with it.

Yeah, this thing.

And not every state's on board with it, too.

If everybody was doing it, they'd be fine, but a couple of states don't, and it's like,

I think the majority people are just kind of done.

I'm guessing anyway.

You're probably right.

I hear a lot about it, and the politicians, every election cycle promise they're going

to get rid of it.

What's their beef with it?

Why won't they do that?

I don't know.

I think it's because they can't agree on it.

Maybe it's that important clock and alarm clock lobby that's keeping that alive.

Of course, they can't agree on anything.

That's true, too.

That's a good point.

Well, I need some help.

My, and I've done it before, and you laughed at my fiat.

I did a fiat 500L.

I'm going to laugh at it again.

I can't help it.

It died.

You said, when the warranty goes out, get rid of it.

And you didn't.

2,000 miles.

And you didn't get rid of it.

No, I didn't.

I kept it.

And at 152,000 miles, the transmission started going wacky.

And so I have to, it's not, you know, safely drivable.

So now I'm looking for a used car.

And I was thinking I was hoping a Subaru or a Toyota, because my funds are limited just

like the guy that was buying something for his employee, I have 10 to 15,000 to work

with about, do you have any suggestions?

And I, and I really only want to go to a dealer that is going to be, you know, reasonable

and reputable and honest.

Where are you located, Lisa?

I'm located in Los Angeles, but I'm, yeah, OK, like I'm close by to anything,

whether it's in the South Bay area, like Carson, Gardena, I'm easily accessible to that.

you you can pick the price range.

And we're working on this search engine.

Right now, it really sucks because you got to pick a brand.

So if I were you first, I'd pick Toyota and set your limit on 12,000 or whatever, 10,000,

whatever it is and see what pulls up.

That's a tougher price range in California than it is in Texas.

Because everything's everything's higher where you are.

But that doesn't mean it can't be done.

Can you live like the discussion that he and I had, can you live with a sedan?

Yes, I can live with a sedan.

Look, after a fee, anything's going to be a step up, right?

I can live with that.

You know, of course, I would like, you know, small SUV or something,

but I can live with the sedan.

OK, I would I would focus on that because you're going to get so much more car

for the money than you will in an SUV.

And that's, you know, if you can get anything at 10 grand under 100,000

miles, except a fiat, then you're going to be you're going to have you're going to be OK.

You're going to want to look at the history report.

And if you're shopping my website, anything you find there will be

one of my dealers that'll supply you with a history report free of charge.

No, no problem.

So, you know, kind of like he and I talked, look at cars that aren't.

Uber popular, but that are good cars.

You heard me talk about Ford Fusion and Taurus and Chevy Malibu and Nissan Centra.

Those are great cars to look at and have got good histories,

but they don't have great resale value, and that is the perfect scenario.

You want a car that's been a good one, but you don't want one that everybody else wants

because that drives prices up, right? Right.

So what are you going to do with that?

What are you going to do with that boat anchor fiat?

Well, you know, I was I was going to do the donation thing to a charity,

or I was going to sell it to one of those places that, you know,

will trip the parts off of it.

Yeah, that's that's that's a good idea.

And I'd probably tell you to do the charity because they have

a lot of times they'll have mechanics that work on cars for free to help the charity.

And if they can end up, you know, if they end up with fixing it

and getting it running and doing OK, you know, it might bring

fifteen hundred bucks and that's good for the charity.

Plus, you get a nice you get a nice tax write off

and you're not going to get anything with one of the salvage yards.

They're going to want to look.

I've had I've seen those guys that say we buy junk cars

want to charge you to pick it up.

Not not give you anything, no, but they want to charge you for picking it up.

So I go the charity, right?

I think you're going to be fine.

And if you get just super interested in a particular car,

whether it be one of my dealers or not, if you want to run it past me,

just shoot me an email from the website and I'll tell you what I think.

All right, I don't know any.

And I sure don't want any relatives that are that way.

But I know they're out there somewhere.

Well, the result of the automotive news auto sales survey they did,

as far as to how the U.S. auto market did in February,

it might be kind of good news for you, not that the mixed results of

some up some down is what we're looking for.

I'm sure all the folks out there selling cars and making cars

don't like that particular thing.

But with that going on, it certainly gives you a lot more incentives

and some higher trading values to with that type of thing going on.

Yeah, we've had a couple of months where the months were not as good

as the same months in twenty twenty five.

So if you if you look at January to January, February to February,

twenty six versus twenty five, we've been down.

The market's been down to three percent.

That is good news for you because it means that

the manufacturers are going to put on better incentives.

It means the dealers have become overstocked

because they ordered cars months in advance based on last

January and February sales and they were off.

So now they've got once you once you order a car from the factory,

you can't send them back.

It doesn't work that way.

You got to sell it or trade it.

You got to sell it. Yeah.

You got to do something with it.

So it's that that's the kind of things that bring prices down.

When the market's hot and manufacturers are selling cars as fast as they can

build them, it's hard to get a deal under those circumstances.

Oh, thank you so much.

Thanks for taking my call, gentlemen.

You bet. Hey, I had one fifty that unfortunately just got

totaled in an accident and been looking at trucks.

My brother just bought a brand new one fifty tremor

and he paid like eighty some thousand dollars for the truck.

It's got all kinds of crap on there that that I don't know that he's ever going to use.

Anyways, my question is years ago, I ran into an old buddy

that ordered a Ford Raptor, but he paid like half for it

because he ordered it without all the bells and whistles.

It didn't even have power windows.

Is that kind of stuff still still popular?

Do dealerships still do that?

Because all the trucks of the dealership now are like in the eighty plus

thousand dollar range. It's ridiculous.

Yeah. And you know why?

No, sir. The all the markup in a car is in the options.

It's not in the price.

It's not in the base price of the car.

There's very little markup for any car in the base price where they get you

is the markup in the individual line items and their packages.

So if you order a truck and you don't order all those things,

then, yeah, the price comes way down and it comes down quick.

Now, I I it didn't your friends.

It didn't come down in half.

I'm going to tell you that now.

No, I'm talking out of my rear end.

You're right. It came down significantly.

Yes. Yes. I'll buy that.

And and you're going to run into some dealers

that are not going to want to do that because it's going to burn an allocation

and they can order a loaded truck then and make, you know, a lot of money on it.

But if you hook up with the right guy,

then that's not going to be a problem.

And I'm going to tell you right now who I tell you to talk to

is Jorge, Jorge Lopez at Tom Ball Ford,

or he owns a Raptor himself.

He is Mr. Raptor.

He helps my listeners in California get Raptors.

He will do it for you if you just tell him I sent you.

Now, I really appreciate it because like the truck that my brother bought,

this tremor, I didn't realize that he has to pay a monthly fee

to use this thing called Blue Cruise, which is a high end cruise control

that he's never going to use anyway.

Yeah, it's insane.

And and that's the way that everything is going right now.

Subscriptions drive me crazy.

And in some of the car companies went a little bit nuts with it.

BMW wanted to charge and did charge for a while for heated seats.

You know, you know, the damn cars got them in there.

Well, I can eat a can of beans and take care of that myself.

There's that.

Hey, let me let me ask you this.

You guys were talking about electric vehicles earlier.

I have heard that electric vehicles because of their weight

that they're harder on tires.

Is that true? Yes.

And not only tires, but roads.

They're harder on the roads.

There are some I test.

I reviewed the Hummer SUV.

It weighed almost 10,000 pounds.

There's cases of these things cracking people's driveways.

Seriously.

And there's been a lot of cases, especially in California

in recent times, where parking garages have collapsed

and they think it's because of the extra weight of the batteries.

And it could well be.

I don't know. But yeah, talk to Jorge, you'll be in great hands.

Don't put too much stock in what you read online about cars or trucks.

Hey, Jerry, I'm so excited to be on your show.

So I've got a question.

I got a little dilemma.

I bought my son a 2023 Toyota Tundra

and it's got that engine that's being rehauled.

Yeah. Recalled.

And so kind of the challenge is

we haven't had, honestly, being transparent.

We haven't had any problems, but the engine's being recalled.

That affects the resale value and everything else.

What's your opinion on, you know, if we get the engine replaced,

does the industry look at that like a really low mileage,

nice vehicle, or is it still going to affect the resale value?

If it affects the resale value at all, Mark, it'll make it go up, not down.

That's what I was hoping to hear.

You're getting you're getting a brand new engine and it's different.

This has been an interesting recall for me.

And I track recalls very closely.

I put them in the newsletter every single week.

And I get the word out on quicker than anybody.

And this recall is exactly what I thought Toyota would do.

In fact, I predicted it and most of my predictions are wrong.

But this one was right, that Toyota would do the right thing and replace

the entire engines.

If like most car companies, if the engine were repaired,

if if a technician tore the engine apart, fixed whatever the problem is

and put it all back together, that would hurt the resale value.

The fact that they're putting a brand new crate engine in it will actually help it.

How many miles are on it?

About 40. OK, does he like the truck?

40,000. Yeah, he loves it. OK.

Yeah, he loves it.

The only question we had was we had a neighbor that had another car.

It was no Toyota. It was another truck where they had it.

He had a diesel engine that was that they under a lemon law.

They just bought the car back from him.

Yeah. And so we initially looked into that and said,

hey, instead, can you just buy the car back from us?

No. And the the the initial pushback is we haven't had any problems.

So we have we didn't have problems.

It hasn't been sitting. What are they buying?

Yeah, so that wouldn't work.

Yeah, so they're probably not going to do that for us.

No, they're not.

No, you know, if they put a new engine in it, he's going to be in better

shape than he was when it's whether you're buying the lowest price car

We got sidetracked.

So what does she want?

Well, right now she currently has a GX470 and it's close to about 280,000 miles on it.

And she loves it.

And the car, it runs great.

We had to spend a little bit of money in the last couple of years getting some things fixed.

And...

What year is it?

Cosmetically, it's a 2005.

Okay, all right.

Got it.

2005, coming up on 300,000 miles.

It's time.

Yeah.

And so you get in it, it drives great.

And cosmetically it's falling apart.

We just want to get something a little bit newer.

So we're kind of looking toward the GX460s.

Yeah.

And my question is, I've heard just a little...

There's some certain year models that you might want to stay away from.

And I just wonder if you could kind of maybe clarify that a little bit.

Yeah, I would disagree with that on the GX, just because it's been so good.

2014 and to today, of course, the new one is a completely different vehicle.

But 2014 to 2023, that generation of them has been flawless.

Todd, you had one that fell into that.

Absolutely.

And what'd you think?

I liked it.

Boy, that was glowing.

You kind of have to pay for them in there, Todd.

Sorry I ask.

No, I know him.

And it didn't have enough technology.

Yeah, that was...

I was trying not to say something negative because there's such great vehicles.

And I will say this, and honestly, the best ride I've ever had of any vehicle so far that I've

owned is probably that one.

No question.

But I'm a tech guy.

I like gadgets and electronics.

And at that point, that was part of my problem.

But that's where you get a good vehicle, one that stays the same from 2014 to 2023.

Every little problem that was there got worked out along the road,

and usually within the first year or two.

So anything from 2014 on, Randy, I wouldn't be afraid of it all.

Okay.

Yeah, and Todd, my wife is kind of the opposite of you.

She's not a very high tech.

So it doesn't like all the gadgets, electronics, and all the bells and whistles stuff, right?

She just wants to have a car that's comfortable and dependable.

There is no doubt that that is exactly what that is.

It's both those things.

You just described the GX.

Yeah.

Okay.

And between the GX 460 and the 470, the ride's going to be pretty much the same.

It's going to be better.

Yes, sir.

That's good.

And it will be quieter inside than the early generations of the GX, which wasn't bad.

They got better.

They really made that...

When they made that transition in 2014, they took the luxury up a notch.

And that was good.

That was the right thing to do.

And I promise you, that's...

You're dead on with what you need to buy her and make her happy.

I did see just kind of looking that on the 460, there's a couple of different packages,

you know, like the luxury package.

And I mean, you have like the base package.

I think the luxury made the sports package.

I don't remember, to be honest with you, I've driven too many cars since then.

But, you know, when you're...

Sometimes when you're looking used, you've got to accept some things.

And as long as it's got a good history report and she likes the way it rides and drives,

then, you know, hey, she's going to be happy.

And you're going to be off the hook.

We have had a Lexus, which I absolutely love because they look good.

They're reliable from 1999 to 2011, the ES and the RX.

But my husband wants a sedan probably used, unless I could talk him into something newer,

the sedan.

And we like the ES, but now that we're older, we want more safety features.

And we've had our cars go like 250 to 300,000.

So they're reliable.

They look good, blah, blah, blah.

But we hate, I personally, has nothing to do with the drive.

The grill that they've put on all these...

What happened?

You're not alone.

The good news is when you're behind the wheel, you can't see it.

Yeah, right.

But, you know, I mean, yeah, I mean, I like even the...

You know, when I'm just looking at cars and don't really know what they are,

if they're not a T or an L or, you know, it's like, oh, I like that.

Gee, that's a Porsche.

Oh, I like that.

That's a Mercedes, but a lot of those are not reliable, you know,

once they need some kind of mechanical, reliable safety features.

Yeah, go ahead.

Look, there's still, there's some Lexus GS's out there,

which was the next step up from the ES.

Super safe, really good cars.

I don't know why they discontinued it.

But if you can find one of those, they're going to be really good buys

because they have been discontinued.

I would tell you too, and this is, this, don't let this shock you

because we're almost out of time here, but look at the Genesis G80.

And I'll put that car up against anything on the road.

It's fantastic.

I just got something real quick.

I know I've never owned an EV and don't understand the nuances.

I have one.

I know you do.

And that's why I'm going to ask you, and you even wrote the article about this,

the level two home charger that Toyota and Lexus are kind of

streamlining to get to easier and make it easier for you to get one.

Found that interesting.

I had to go look at the levels and like, why couldn't you get a level three?

Well, dummy, that's what the charging stations are for.

You couldn't get that infrastructure for your home.

Oh, you could.

This is going to cost you around 150 grand.

Oh, never mind.

Hopefully the level two is a little bit less than that.

I would imagine.

Yeah.

Those are affordable.

I guess they're making it now where it's a lot easier to get one.

So I guess in the past, was it difficult maybe since you know the business,

was it difficult for you to get that installed and done or was that?

No, it wasn't anything.

Okay.

Depending on where your closest 240 volt outlet is,

I put my level two charger in the garage.

It was near my junction box.

Okay, right.

So there was 240 running there.

Total installation cost was less than 500 bucks.

That's crazy.

Yeah.

But I mean, look at what the benefit from it.

You leave it charged all night long.

You got a full amount there when you're ready to leave the next day.

That's right.

I liked it.

Good afternoon, Jerry.

Hey, buddy.

I have a real quick, have a real quick question.

And I'm about 12 cars into using your process between friends and family.

Well, thank you, sir.

Have a, my wife has a CX-9 with a turbo and a leg quick.

I've got a CX-50 with a turbo and also on the auto.

She wants my CX-50.

So instead of me buying another CX-50,

I'd like to move up the food chain a little bit.

Two-wheel SUV.

Like to lease and probably keep it around 60K budget-wise.

All right.

I would, oh, you're right.

You're right at a Porsche Macan, which is a really fun to drive SUV.

It's confusing, Dan, because when you start talking prices, but then you talk leases,

a certain SUVs with a $70,000 sticker price will have the same lease payment as others

with a $60,000 sticker price.

So, okay.

I was looking at like X1s, X3s, or A5s, etc.

Yeah.

I was thinking X3 for sure.

Macan, I was thinking Mercedes GLA is a fun to drive one.

It feels really zippy.

It'll fit in the price range.

A Lexus RX F Sport will be the best lease payment

because the resale value is so good.

So, there's stuff out there.

It's just what I want to caution you about is doing your homework because you're leasing.

Look at the payments and see, forget the price.

Look at the best payment that you can get, and then we'll go from there.

Does that make sense?

Yes.

To be honest, if the CX-5 did sure he'd come out with a turbo, I'd be by his.

Yeah.

If he didn't.

So, yeah.

No, and I don't know that they ever will.

As they move up the line, you've got the CX-70, which also doesn't have a third row seat,

but it's got a ton of cargo area.

Then you've got the 90 with Mazda, and that thing is just, that's their top seller.

Everybody loves that one, but I wouldn't call it an overly,

it doesn't fit the category of a BMW or an Audi.

So, if you're wanting to go upscale, I think you've got some good choices there,

but you're going to have to do some real, real good homework.

It's not all about cars and trucks.

It's about what suits how you drive.
