00:02
This is The CarPro Show, the home of straight talk and honest answers about everything automotive.
00:07
Jerry Reynolds is The CarPro, twice voted USA Today's dealer of the year when he ran his
00:12
ultra successful dealerships for over 30 years.
00:16
The other voice that you hear is co-host Todd Chambliss, who you probably recognize
00:20
from various commercials.
00:22
His most recent one was for the Easy Bake Oven half-cooked, 400 degree molten-centered chocolate
00:28
So, grab your engine and let's get started on The CarPro Show.
00:34
Break the whole thing.
00:37
Thank you for joining us here on The CarPro Show.
00:40
We're taking your calls and we're answering your car questions about anything except something
00:47
I just don't have the knowledge, but if you're thinking about taking advantage of the current
00:53
prices that are out there which are very good and the incentives as we head toward
00:58
the end of the month and the end of the third quarter, then let's figure it out together.
01:05
All you need to do is tell me what you're thinking about doing and I'll tell you if
01:10
I think that's a good idea or not.
01:13
I drive over 100 cars a year and review them and then we add another 50 or so from Amy
01:22
our executive producer who also does a review every week and between us we can figure out
01:29
what's best for you based on your situation.
01:32
I may have more questions for you than you have for me and if so, that's okay.
01:37
Right now, we've got a full board of callers holding.
01:42
We take the calls and the orders that they come in so when somebody hangs up or we go
01:48
to a break, call thechase.com, CarPRO Hotline at 800-926-7777-800-926-7777, easy bake, oven,
02:04
chocolate chip, molten cookies.
02:06
I didn't even know they still made those things until I got the commercial and cut it the
02:10
Well, how about that?
02:12
That's Todd Chambliss.
02:13
That's me and just excited to be here today as we mentioned before, just days away from
02:19
that the government rebate of $7,500 for the EVs and we've been talking a lot of EV talk
02:28
Another thing that was really popular on the newsletter is the how to deal with an insurance
02:33
You've had quite a few calls really in the last couple of weeks about that.
02:36
I have and it's something that people don't realize, I think, the two issues with insurance.
02:47
One is that and that people assume that they just have to take what the insurance company
02:54
If their car gets towed or if it gets stolen, they just got to take whatever they say and
03:01
You've got protection under the law and the law is the same in every state in that they
03:09
have to pay you replacement value.
03:11
Now a lot of the insurance companies come out and tell you, oh, well, our investigation
03:17
shows that your car is X amount of dollars.
03:22
I had an article in last week's newsletter a week ago yesterday that State Farm wasn't
03:30
They were pulling some fictitious number out of the air saying, well, car dealers negotiate
03:37
this much off their online prices.
03:43
It's true in some cases, but that's not what the law says.
03:47
The law says replacement value and that means what you would have to go out into the open
03:53
market and get and pay for a vehicle like the one you had.
03:58
This article walks you through how to do that.
04:02
They're a business, don't forget that, so yeah, they're doing coverage, but their job
04:08
is to pay you the least amount the fake can get away with.
04:11
I mean, from their perspective, I'm not talking generally, but.
04:14
They're not a 501c3.
04:16
They're there to make a profit and believe me, they do.
04:21
So I want you to be protected.
04:24
And that's what this article was all about at my website, carpro.com.
04:31
If you look at the top, there's it'll say your car buying resources, a lot of different
04:38
stuff there, but one of them is the FAQ page.
04:41
I've written over 100 articles that are there update them from time to time.
04:47
I just updated the insurance adjuster article and added some information because now they
04:52
got this third party arbitrator clause in everybody's insurance policy.
04:59
And I kind of walk you through that, but I tell you how to prove your case of what your
05:06
It's, I've seen it make more than a $5,000 difference when people follow my process.
05:17
That's a big chunk of money to leave on the table.
05:20
Let's go and talk to Rwanda and Houston.
05:32
My eyes aren't as good as they used to be.
05:34
What could I do for you kiddo?
05:37
Yes, I don't have a vehicle.
05:41
I'm an over the road truck driver and when I come home, I have to either depend on one
05:49
of my friends or family to take me where I need to go or use Uber.
05:54
So I would, but I would like to be here on my own for when I'm home and I was wondering
05:59
if you could help me figure out which would be the best way of dealing with this either
06:06
rent lease or just fly that by a vehicle.
06:10
I'm only home maybe 45 days out of the year.
06:18
Did you say you're home 25 days?
06:23
OK, so you got a month and a half during the year.
06:27
So your car is going to be your car is going to be setting way more than it's going to be driven.
06:33
You know, I think I think Elise would probably be a waste of your money.
06:41
I think I think buying a used car.
06:45
And unfortunately, the market's high right now.
06:48
But if you could find a used car.
06:52
That's 10 years old and low mileage that you could pay $10,000 for.
06:58
And they're out there.
06:59
You just have to look for them and a good car that, you know, being it's going to be
07:06
setting most of the time, I'd probably try to stay with a Toyota or a Honda.
07:13
You know, Toyota Corolla, a low mileage Toyota Corolla or a Honda Civic ought to be around
07:18
10 grand with under 100,000 miles.
07:22
That's a car that'll last you for, you know, 10, 20 years.
07:27
No more miles than you're going to put on.
07:29
And I think there's no need in you buying something that's going to take a depreciation
07:35
hit and anything you buy that's newer than what we're talking about here is going to
07:42
depreciate and it's going to cost you money.
07:44
So I think that's a good strategy for you.
07:48
Look at my website, car pro dot com up at the top near the top.
07:55
You can pick a dealer or you can search for a car and it'll let you search in in price
08:02
ranges based on your zip code.
08:05
Look and see what my dealers have because if if you find something that one of my dealers
08:10
has, you can bet they've checked it out and it's going to be a good car.
08:14
That's the way to go.
08:15
Stay safe on the roads.
08:18
If you buy a car without calling Jerry Reynolds at the car pro show, you're just rolling the
08:25
Here's the number 1-800-926-7777.
08:41
And you're listening to the car pro show with Jerry Reynolds, the car pro.
08:45
Last week, I believe you got a caller asking about this tricolor chain.
08:51
They're called tricolor auto holdings, Dallas based, and apparently they file for chapter
08:56
seven and in the news article you have in the newsletter that came out Friday, you sort
09:01
of chronicle the whole thing, how they started and the timeline of collapse basically.
09:07
Yeah, I told the listener I'd research it because I didn't know at the time if they
09:11
were doing chapter seven or chapter 11 and we're going to restructure, but no, they're
09:17
liquidating and apparently there was some shenanigans going on.
09:21
This was a big chain of dealerships and they focused primarily on the Hispanic market.
09:28
And they would make loans for people who didn't have great credit and then they would
09:38
batch those loans and sell them to finance institutions, probably for pennies on the
09:46
dollar and they kept, I mean, I'm guessing, but it looked like when you get an operation
09:53
like that, they keep going in the hole as far as cash flow and I would imagine that's
10:00
what happened, but I don't know.
10:03
I mean, there's going to be a whole bunch of cars on the market, used cars on the market
10:11
and they weren't known for selling great cars.
10:16
I would never have recommended somebody go there.
10:19
So we're going to have to wait and see.
10:21
But 25, 25,000 creditors, too.
10:25
And lots of debt that they had to go and push somewhere.
10:29
There's going to be a bunch of people taking a loss on this deal.
10:34
Leonard and Lubbock, Texas, listening on KFYL.
10:40
What can I help you with?
10:44
Leonard, are you there?
10:51
Let's put Leonard back on hold.
11:00
What can I do for you?
11:02
I made to buy a used engine for a Ford Edge and wondered if you could tell me where I
11:12
could go to find a Ford engine.
11:19
And what year's your edge?
11:25
How many miles does it have on it?
11:28
The current current motor in it has a little over 200,000 miles on it.
11:35
OK, are you sure you want it?
11:38
You want to spend that kind of money on a 200,000 mile 15 year old vehicle?
11:45
I am trying to get the information to make the decision.
11:51
The body is very good.
11:52
OK, body are new tires, so exterior is great.
11:59
And I don't know what a new motor would cost to, you know, to keep compared with.
12:07
Well, a brand new one brand new will cost you more than 10 grand.
12:13
But you might go with a remanufactured engine that would be about half that.
12:21
And then I could probably make the case for it.
12:25
Edge was always a good vehicle.
12:28
You know, when you go to spend in five thousand dollars on a 200,000 mile unit,
12:35
that that doesn't sound like it would make a lot of sense.
12:38
But the reality is, if you went out to replace that edge with something with lower miles,
12:45
you're going to spend, you know, $12,000 or more.
12:49
There is there is a place there in Lubbock.
12:53
And I used to sell them parts when I when I had my four dealership,
12:57
because I had a huge parts department and we made a we made a daily run to Lubbock every day.
13:05
Birdsong Automotive, they're there in Lubbock and they sell Jasper engines.
13:12
Jasper is a remanufacturer and they make a good engine
13:17
with a good warranty, talk to them and let's see what Birdsong can do for you.
13:23
Maybe they can help and then you can make a good decision on whether you want to sink
13:28
that kind of money into it or not with the used car market the way it is right now.
13:33
If you can, I don't think that's a bad idea.
13:36
If you can get out for five grand or more with a with an engine with a warranty,
13:42
that edge will probably go another 100,000 miles without any major issues.
13:48
And if so, that's going to be the cheapest driving that you could look at in the future.
13:54
So give that a try.
13:55
I hope it works out for you and let them know if you want to that I sent you.
14:00
I don't know that I still know anybody there, but hey, maybe they listen to the show.
14:05
Who knows? I appreciate the call, my friend. Good luck to you.
14:08
I hope that works out the chase dot com car pro hotline 809 to 677 77.
14:17
Most people talk a lot about cars, but know very little about them.
14:21
Get the answers you need from the car pro show on 809 to 677 77.
14:38
Matthew and Houston, you're up next on the car pro show. Hello, Matthew. Thank you for holding.
14:44
Hello, very appreciate all of a couple of quick questions about something to do with your insurance situation.
14:51
Yeah, run into last week by state farm driver, the one we need to take my
14:57
2025 Tesla to a state farm shop.
15:01
No, no, no, I'm not going to put third party parts or or Taiwanese parts on the car.
15:06
So I took it to another shop, but they are now telling me
15:10
and they can't get the parts that they have to.
15:14
They cannot give me more than until October 2nd on my rental car.
15:19
Yeah, it's your language or working around that in any way.
15:22
Not that I know of.
15:25
I've run into this before and let me let me just tell you, and I'm I'm not a big state farm fan, but
15:36
They're not going to recommend a bad body shop because they don't want the liability of that.
15:42
So they do negotiate the labor rates with shops to get out as cheap as they can.
15:49
I don't I don't really blame them for that, but they're not going to send you to a bad shop.
15:54
I think you'll probably be OK on that part of it.
15:59
You know, I picked a really good shop here that works on all kind of buying in cars.
16:04
And yeah, and I've seen I've seen people pay some money out of their pocket to use the shop they want.
16:09
And it just depends on how passionate about that you are.
16:13
That's what I'll do because I don't like the other shops that are on the list.
16:17
They are like they're like the the wallmarks of of body shops and things.
16:25
Yeah, one thing about your your dv.
16:28
It's a new car, six months old, so I've got a dv claim.
16:32
This lady ran into me doing 50 miles an hour when I stopped.
16:36
Car held up great, but it's got a lot of damage to it.
16:39
They are not going to settle it, but now I'm going to have a dv situation.
16:44
In the short cut, what would you the short cut or the click notes of the dv
16:49
Tiger dv or whoever I use.
16:52
What should I do and not do there?
16:54
I did read your article, but I want to make sure that I do the right things as I talk to them
17:01
Yeah, I think you'd give me counsel once the tiger has done a good job for my listeners.
17:05
They've Tiger dv has done great.
17:09
They're real aggressive.
17:11
I think it's it's well worth the three hundred and fifty or whatever they pay or whatever they charge.
17:17
I'd go with them if you don't know much about leasing a vehicle.
17:20
Jerry Reynolds, the car pro can help you call the car pro show at one eight hundred nine two six seventy seven seventy seven.
17:39
And welcome back to the car pro show and is Jerry Reynolds, the car pro and I'm Todd
17:44
Chambliss every single week.
17:46
Jerry, pours, do you pour your heart out what you say?
17:49
That's probably true.
17:50
I work really hard.
17:52
The newsletter we're talking about.
17:53
I mean, generally you do.
17:55
But the newsletter, I mean, I see you on Thursdays and we do a lot of commercials for a lot of different dealers and dealerships all over the country.
18:03
And you normally tell me some of the things you're you're working on didn't have a chance to see you this week.
18:08
But I wanted to comment.
18:11
You mentioned this at the end of last hour, the article that the end closing comments you did regarding Charlie Kirk.
18:18
I thought were thoughtful and thought were were well put and with the funeral being tomorrow and and the country still kind of divided it on fire.
18:30
I thought they were meaningful and regardless of where you stand with it, I thought it was well done.
18:36
And I wanted to thank you for writing that wasn't political.
18:39
No, no, it was my wish that obviously I didn't know Charlie Kirk either.
18:47
No, no, never met the man.
18:49
But, you know, I'd listen to a lot more so after, you know, his death of things he said.
18:57
And, you know, I didn't agree with everything, obviously.
19:01
I don't I don't agree with everything you say.
19:05
But you're quick to tell me that too.
19:09
But what I wanted to talk about was, you know, taking this opportunity for everybody.
19:18
Calm down and let's try to get along.
19:21
Yeah, we don't have to.
19:22
We don't have to see things the same to be agreeable with each other.
19:29
I have a lot of friends who think way different than I do.
19:35
But they're still friends.
19:36
But they're still friends.
19:37
And I know who to talk to, you know, who's on certain subjects.
19:44
I can't I can't talk politics with some relatives.
19:53
But there are other things to talk about.
19:55
And you just know they're not going to see eye to eye there.
19:58
So we're just not going to go there with that particular subject.
20:00
They're not going to make me see.
20:02
They're going to make me think the way they think.
20:05
And I'm not going to make them think the way that I think.
20:09
And so once you realize that and you get past that and and then look at the person.
20:16
And I really kind of think after doing some studying that was kind of this
20:22
teachings of Charlie Kirk was we can have a meaningful discussion and debate.
20:29
It doesn't have to be mean.
20:30
It doesn't have to be nasty and doesn't have to get violent either.
20:33
It definitely doesn't. Yeah.
20:35
So that's what that was about.
20:38
If if you didn't take the time, if you're a newsletter subscriber
20:41
and you didn't take the time to read, it was at the very bottom of the page.
20:45
It's my closing message from yesterday's newsletter.
20:49
You can subscribe today and you'll get it immediately and you can take a look
20:55
and see what you think.
20:56
I hope it did some good.
20:58
I had a lot of good feedback on it.
21:00
I expected some people to really take me to task on it.
21:05
Have they so far? No, good. Not a one.
21:08
I'm glad to hear that.
21:09
And that has been a very nice surprise.
21:12
Let's go to Tony in Crosby, Texas in the Houston area.
21:17
Tony, welcome. What can I help you with?
21:21
Yeah, I've got a 16 forerunner, bought it brand new.
21:25
And it's got like it's been a great card and no problems.
21:28
Oh, yeah, those are great 25.
21:32
Yeah, it's really good car for my wife's car and she wants a new one.
21:37
But I've heard some bad things about the 25 forerunner with the four cylinder
21:42
motor in it. They don't have the six cylinder anymore.
21:46
When you say you've heard some things, are you telling me that you've been online reading?
21:54
Yeah, that's what my wife has done.
21:56
Yeah, yeah, that's what I was afraid of.
22:00
You you and plus the four cylinder, it's not it's, you know,
22:04
they don't have the six cylinder in that vehicle anymore.
22:07
I understand. But we're talking about Toyota.
22:10
We're talking about the number one automaker in the world.
22:15
And they don't take risk.
22:17
They're the most conservative automaker anywhere.
22:21
They do not take risk before they come out with a new engine.
22:26
They have tested millions and millions of miles.
22:31
I wouldn't be afraid of any Toyota or Lexus that they come out with.
22:37
So if a vehicle comes out, just because it's a four cylinder,
22:42
but it gets better gas mileage and it's got more acceleration,
22:46
what's the downside?
22:50
Yeah, I don't do. I don't know this one.
22:53
I don't know. I just.
22:55
Well, you mentioned the Lexus just a second ago.
22:59
What about that five fifty?
23:01
Yeah, I've reviewed it.
23:04
He likes that vehicle now.
23:06
Yeah, I don't blame her.
23:08
Seems like everybody loves that one, Tony.
23:11
They've been short in supply since they came out well over a year ago.
23:16
I thought it was great.
23:18
I I reviewed the four runner to him, by the way, and I've got a really heavy foot.
23:23
I'm known for my heavy foot and the four cylinder and the four runner
23:27
had plenty of power for me.
23:29
But the GX, you know, if you're going to spend
23:35
eight thousand dollars for a vehicle, I don't know that there's anything
23:38
better out there than the GX.
23:40
And I'm looking at comfort and reliability and long term durability.
23:46
Those are things that would make me consider the GX myself
23:51
as a vehicle for me to buy or lease.
23:55
I'd probably lease it, but whatever.
23:58
I you know, if getting one with the GX is the biggest problem.
24:06
I'm surprised she hadn't.
24:08
I'm surprised she hadn't looked at the Toyota Land Cruiser if she likes the GX.
24:16
Yeah, I don't know if you had mentioned that to me.
24:19
Well, let me put your mind at ease.
24:22
I wouldn't be worried.
24:25
The GX is in very high demand from what I'm seeing.
24:31
That that's a very that tells you a lot about a car when there's that many people that want it.
24:37
Right. The best thing to do.
24:40
Has it covered also effective production of a lot of for a lot of automakers?
24:46
Covid or they all call it.
24:47
Oh, no, they've been they've been caught up for years.
24:51
The microchip shortage that came after Covid was a bigger issue than Covid.
24:57
But now we're just dealing with supply and demand.
25:01
We're dealing with more people want to buy the GX and then they can possibly build.
25:06
So the smart thing to do and the only thing to do really is get your name
25:13
on one that a dealer has ordered that's coming into inventory.
25:18
If you're waiting to see one sitting there for sale.
25:23
That could be years from now.
25:26
So you tell the dealer and I've got a great one in Clear Lake.
25:32
Gentlemen, their name Fred Forsey, been with me a long time.
25:37
You tell him what you want, he'll put your name on one that's coming in.
25:41
And when it gets there, he'll call you and say, Hey,
25:45
your vehicles here come up and look at it.
25:47
And if you want it, take it fine.
25:49
If not, there'll be 10 people behind you with their hand in the air.
25:55
All right. Oh, so that doesn't obligate you to it?
26:00
OK, they don't have the name of that dealer in Clear Lake.
26:03
Lexus of Clear Lake.
26:07
I was going to ask Fred Fred for Fred Forsey.
26:10
And I'm sorry, guys, we're out of time, but thanks for calling.
26:16

26:50
Jerry puts a lot of time every single week into it.
26:53
This week was full of great stuff, a lot of legal stuff, good reviews.
26:58
Next week, what's going on in the newsletter?
26:59
What have you already got cooking for next week?
27:01
Well, I've got the why the end of the month
27:04
in the end of the third quarter is important if you're in the market
27:08
OK for a new car, everything in September 30th
27:13
in the month into quarter into the federal rebates on electric cars.
27:18
I tell you which automakers still offer European deliveries of your new car.
27:25
Really? There used to be a bunch of them.
27:28
I didn't know that.
27:29
Yeah, they'd fly you over.
27:31
Some of the car companies would pay to fly you over and back.
27:38
Get your new vehicle, drive it for up to a month.
27:43
While you're there and then ship the car back to you.
27:46
That's crazy. Now, these can be cheap cars.
27:49
Oh, we're talking about Volvo, BMW, Porsche, OK, well, Mercedes crazy.
27:54
But not, you know, we're not talking Rolls Royce or Bentley.
27:57
Right, right. So that's cool, actually.
28:00
I don't know even what made me think of that.
28:03
I wrote an article years ago on the ones that did European deliveries.
28:07
OK. And it dawned on me.
28:09
I hadn't updated that in years, so I went and had to research
28:13
and find out which ones still did it.
28:15
Are you thinking of making the purchase yourself?
28:19
But maybe you were. No, but but thank you. OK.
28:23
So in the other one that I wrote,
28:27
it made me sad. Really?
28:30
Ford is moving its world headquarters,
28:33
which means they're tearing down the building that I spent a lot of time in.
28:37
When I was the National Leader Council chairman iconic.
28:41
The it was it's been called the Glass House forever.
28:47
And if it's an icon in Dearborn and they're tearing it down.
28:53
Turn it down. Wow. Sad.
28:56
Is there a reason why?
28:57
Well, they think, you know, a new building is cool.
29:01
Going to sell more cars.
29:02
OK, well, it might, but I don't know.
29:06
Eric in Huntington Beach, California.
29:08
Welcome and thank you for holding, Eric.
29:10
What could I help you with, sir?
29:13
Hey, it's great talking to you, Jerry, and welcome aboard Todd.
29:17
Thank you very much, sir. Appreciate that. Yes, sir.
29:22
So my wife is retiring mid next year,
29:25
and she has her eye on a BZX4.
29:32
And we're wondering I'm wondering
29:35
is there a comparable EV to that?
29:40
We haven't driven them and we haven't, you know, checked it out.
29:45
She just likes the looks of it. Yeah. Yeah, there is.
29:49
There's there's I like it, too.
29:51
We reviewed it. I think Amy did the review.
29:55
And it's a nice EV Subaru and.
30:02
Toyota went together on this project,
30:04
so there's a Subaru counterpart to this.
30:11
Yeah, I knew you were going to ask me that.
30:17
I never got over the before BZ4X name.
30:22
I just thought that was horrible.
30:26
Well, they have an explanation for it.
30:29
They give, you know, the B and the Z
30:31
and the four and the X stand for something.
30:34
But yeah, but it's like the looks of it on the road.
30:37
I don't see a lot of them.
30:40
It's it's the Subaru Soul Terra.
30:43
And I don't think that we have reviewed it,
30:47
but we did have the BZ, which, by the way, they're changing that name.
30:51
Next year, I had that story in the newsletter a few weeks ago.
30:55
And I think it was because I made such fun of them on the radio.
30:59
But whatever, it's a great EV.
31:02
If you guys are going to get one, for God's sakes, do it by September 30th.
31:07
But Toyota did a really nice job with this, like all EVs.
31:11
It hadn't been a big seller, but it's a dog on good electric.
31:16
Most people don't have a clue about the residual value of their vehicle.
31:19
But Jerry Reynolds, the car pro can explain it to you.
31:22
Call the car pro show at 1 800 926 77 77.
31:38
Eric and Huntington Beach, we ran out of time.
31:41
I apologize to you, sir.
31:42
But I do have Cape Toyota in Long Beach and I've got Toyota Pasadena.
31:48
And both of those are great dealerships.
31:51
And they're both at my website.
31:55
Under you put your zip code in, it'll pull up the one closest to you.
31:59
But they're both really good folks.
32:00
And they'll fix you up on that B.R.B.Z.
32:03
for our B.R.5 for whatever it is.
32:07
Good car, bad name.
32:10
And a hot sports opinion from one Jerry Reynolds.
32:13
How about some happy listener comments?
32:16
Van Der Griff, Honda, Wesley Cammer in the Dallas, Fort Worth area took care of Melanie.
32:21
Looking for a Honda Odyssey said it was wonderful.
32:24
The moment that she contacted them to drive it away in a brand new vehicle,
32:29
the service was exceptional when above and beyond to beat my credit union rate.
32:33
That happened to me, by the way, I got a pre pre approval,
32:37
walked in with a piece of paper thinking I was a big shot.
32:39
They said, oh, we can beat that to Sam Pack Ford right there in Carrollton.
32:44
And they added extended coverage, no extra cost in and out in record time.
32:49
Wesley Cammer does it right over there, doesn't he?
32:51
And Toyota Pasadena, another great comment for Sandra Bruni.
32:55
Oh, my goodness, it's every week.
32:58
Harold went there looking for a RAV4 plug in hybrid.
33:01
It says the team, Sandra and the team were friendly, not pushy, very helpful,
33:06
negotiated for a reasonable trade in value for my old car out in just a few hours
33:11
with the brand new car, test driving and getting all the instructions there at the dealership.
33:17
And Sandra is the best at Toyota Pasadena.
33:19
She is. She is awesome.
33:21
I just think the world of her.
33:24
