I did finally get back to my Susan and say, hey,

give me my bloody paperwork.

They emailed that through.

Susan sends me the paperwork.

I'm 90% sure they didn't send me the paperwork that said they,

I did my alignment again,

but we'll work, we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

Or as the president of the committee says,

we'll fall off that bridge when we get to it.

I kind of understand it.

A lot of these bridges are ones that you have to fall off

for us and cross.

It's a bit grim, but, you know,

The weather hasn't been the best to be spending outside.

He color coded the bumpers and put a clock in it.

He even color coded the grill and the mudflap.

That car was all color coded.

But on an exec, like you get that on an SE.

Couldn't stretch the SE.

I don't know.

$400 for a clock though.

I think we paid $6 at the Wreckers.

Which was an awesome deal.

How good is the Wreckers in that way, by the way?

They're really good.

I sold the jazz to my mom's friend, you know, grandson.

The wasp went to its new owner.

I'm roosting around in that VRX with the hole in the muffler.

So I feel like a bad boy.

But it's because it's been so wet that all wheel drive in that has been fantastic.

I've just been taking corners and going on highways at 110 in the rain,

torrential and it just doesn't bat an eyelid that car.

So I'm very much enjoying that.

It does like to drink.

As I said last time, and as I got to the end of another tank,

I thought, I think I only filled that up two days ago.

But I did go up to the country and back like to my brothers,

but we're almost another tank full.

And I just thought this is a lot more than my Pajero even.

So that's that.

I bought a, you're all going to, I don't know what you're going to do.

I bought a Volkswagen.

He didn't learn his lesson the first time.

Like he's just...

Hang on.

I know there's been first and second.

I had the Passat wagon and now I bought a Polo.

I haven't had a Polo before.

Polo is somewhat safe.

Third time lucky, I'm hoping.

So in my defense gentlemen, it was...

which is the better of them because it's a wet clutch,

and she said, never had a problem with, it's been great.

I'm like, and she was an older conservative lady

who I purchased it from.

So I kind of had a level of,

I don't think she's a carie

and I don't think she's deceiving me deliberately here,

but, and it drives fine.

So I did test drive it.

You know, it wasn't like one that I bought from an auction

that you couldn't test drive.

So engine light.

Engine light, DSG behaving.

I thought, all right, let's, let's get you in and out.

You know, in and out.

Yeah.

So I bought that.

I feel like there was something else I was doing.

I've instigated, I sold the CRV.

Did I mention that?

Yeah.

I mean, I know that sold quite quickly,

sort of within a week or so.

So there's still demand.

Even as a car talk top tip,

even if you've got far too many kilometers

to even be humanly, you know, fathomable,

there's still a buyer out there.

I think the fact that you sold it with a road worthy.

How many commas were on the CRV?

Well, actually, just before we get to the big girl,

we talked about David's Odyssey that we bought back

the other week.

Obviously, well, I bought back the other week.

And then did he talk about how that broke down?

He did.

Yes.

So that was, that was an edit in the driver's seat,

rolled to the side of the freeway.

Oh, shit.

There's a truck coming.

And I've had another one of those situations yesterday

in the big girl.

So.

Oh, no.

I jumped in at yesterday lunch to take it down to one

of my mechanics to do a preventative timing chain

and tensioners because that, that V8 is known for

plastic tensioners being naughty after many years.

And I just wanted to, you know, put that to bed.

So we'll put a new unit and we'll put new tensioners

in it.

And then that's untouched for another 200,000

cape sort of thing.

So I was motoring along quite happily up punt road

up the big hill past the MCG on punt road.

And the thought occurred to me, oh, I've just got

club reg on this.

I must add that to my roadside assistance with

RACV total care because you can now have 15

club plated cars and two registered cars.

That's the new ruling.

So I'm not, I'm close, but I'm not at 15 club.

So I thought, I must add that because it would

be terrible if this thing broke while I didn't

have any roadside assistance.

30 seconds later, I pressed the hill where it

turns into Hodel Street.

I'm going down the hill.

It's like someone's turned it off.

I lost all power.

Oh dear.

I got gone.

So because I had a bit of momentum, I was

doing like sort of 60, 65.

So I slipped her into neutral.

I started thinking, where is my out here?

I was in the middle lane.

Thankfully no one was beside me.

So I got into the left lane, but I had no power

steering, not great brakes.

Obviously you lose all that.

So I thought, do I go, and it's amazing how

quick you sort of think in these situations.

I thought I can go straight ahead and then

I'm on the flat, but I'm blocking Hodel

Street.

No, there's a side street.

Take the side street.

So cruise, cruise, cruise, cruise,

rift it around into the side street,

pulled up alongside some parked cars.

I wasn't blocking the rest of the road.

That was my main concern.

And then whacked the hazard lights on and

thought, all right, you got no roadside.

What are you doing now, dickhead?

So, and you can't really push that car.

It's a big, heavy car.

So I rang my mate, the mechanic, who,

he wasn't far away.

He's only like two k's down the road.

I said, are you by chance free,

right now?

He goes, yeah, I'll run down.

So he runs down, checks a few things,

got no spark.

And he goes, that's really unusual.

The distributors on these don't normally play up.

And I said, look, it should have fuel.

I've done the sender.

It had a quarter of a tank.

Like that was accurate as far as I could tell.

But just crank, crank, crank, crank, crank,

nothing, not even a splutter.

So it's something, something's gone.

Anyway, as I was arranging a tow truck,

he comes back.

He said, I think it's this module thing.

And he found a spare one in the workshop.

Plugged in the module form.

She's back to life.

Followed him.

I mean, one of those workshop.

And I sort of got out of that, you know, quite nicely.

So I was like, oh, well, I just add a module to the bill.

And I'll get an Uber back home and we'll pretend that never

happened.

Was that a fuel pump module?

No.

When you're looking at the engine bay,

there are a few pumps.

He checked the pumps.

They were, they were pumping there down the back behind the

rear wheel arch.

It was this little silver box that's on the passenger side

of the engine bay.

And my friend said, oh, it might be a,

like an amplifier for the spark or something like that.

But that was obviously whatever internal

and that's just gone boom fritz.

He said that he has those rebuilt, you know,

or you can have them rebuilt.

So he's going to send that off and get it,

get it rebuilt.

And then at least I know it's sort of good.

Yeah.

So that's the big girl.

But once I, once I get that back,

I'll be far on the other thing it's in for is it developed

a noisy lifter, we think.

And that's, it's quite bad.

Like when it's running that driver's side cylinder bank

is, you know, you can really hear it.

So he said, I'll sort that out either with a new one

or a good second handy and hopefully home down to where

it is.

So look, it'll be in there for a bit of surgery.

But once she's out gentlemen,

I will be driving that more.

Hmm.

Beacuse.

I do quite like, well, you drive it.

It drives beautifully.

And it was really nice.

And it wasn't making the lifter noise back then.

So that's a new development.

But I'm confident that he can sort it out.

They are known for being a bit noisy in the lifter

occasionally.

So I'm, I'm sort of, um, yeah, I'm okay with it.

Uh, service month has begun the MX fives in getting new rear

brake pads and just oil filter coolant brake fluid

every couple of years.

I've, I'm sort of on the brake fluid year now.

So just give that a flush and keep it nice and fresh in it.

Hmm.

Uh, the 300 coupe is with me.

That'll go in next.

That has an oil leak from somewhere.

So I'll get that maybe investigated.

You know, we'll just churn through them all.

Hmm.

Then doesn't my bank account love service?

Nothing really to do with actual cars, but I did make a stop

off at BW, um, my area and got some new Hot Wheels cars

that just come out.

Um, I've got them up behind me.

And a things that CL pay 63 AMG.

Yeah.

So I grabbed those.

That's fantastic.

We all like a model car.

Then I, cause I had a one year old birthday and I forgot

to grab a birthday card.

I grabbed the present and I thought it's birthday card

to go with it.

So I had to go out again.

This time I went to target instead.

And I'll pick something again for myself.

Oh, this is the Hot Wheels Silver Series box.

And kind of see inside it.

It's hard to see because the light kind of blocks everything.

So, with the small things first,

Cyril, my KB laser got towed to the mechanic today to see

if he is a candidate for club plates

or if I'm going to sort of just get rid of him

and go on with my other projects.

Second thing was that on Sunday,

caught up with my AJ to go to Sand Down Historics.

Fortunately, the weather actually was all right

while we were there.

But it wasn't as bad as it had been on Saturday or today.

It was nice in the sun, Jim.

I got sunburned surprisingly.

Yeah.

I think I did a little bit too, actually.

Yeah, it was actually quite good.

It was weird.

Yeah.

They had 100th anniversary of Ford in Australia as well,

so they had a few decent things on display there and stuff.

But yeah, that was really quite enjoyable.

And then on the way home from that,

as I was passing Phillip Island Circuit,

I clocked $500,000 in my car.

Woo!

Pressure.

Oh, yeah.

Big milestone.

What was on that car when you bought it, Jim?

So I bought it January 13th, 2019, with $193,000.

Oh, my God!

Whoa.

It was just like $100,000.

How many?

$193,000 and $365,000.

Yeah.

So, yeah.

I mean, that wasn't a super low mile or even...

$320,000.

Yeah.

So what was funny was after I took a picture of it,

the next day on Facebook, I got like, you know,

that sort of reminder, two years ago,

I hit $400,000 in the same day.

Oh, my God.

$100,000 in two years down to the day,

which I thought was quite well timed.

That's impressive.

That's very good.

How many tanks of fuel are you putting in that a week?

Two to two and a half at the moment.

So, yeah, it's a lot.

And I only go to one particular petrol station.

Sorry, it's not one particular brand,

but usually preferably only one particular petrol station,

one particular petrol pump.

The lady there said to me one time,

why don't you come in and then go all the way around?

And then I said, I do realise how weird it looks,

but for some reason, and I don't know why,

I always get longer range out of that petrol pump

that I do out of basically any other.

And she was like, okay, you do whatever.

And I don't usually use the points and stuff,

but she's like, oh, you use them eventually.

And I said to her, yeah,

I'll wait until I'm really broke

and they'll use all the points.

And then you can just take a few.

So, Chad, this car,

so have you become quite good friends

with the people at the servo?

Yeah, well, one of the people there,

I went to school with her son,

so that helps, but the other ones,

it's like, oh, yes, it's you again.

That's quite funny.

What was actually quite good was

when I had to go to a different one,

and one of those really big ones on the highway,

and the person said to me,

instead of going, what number are you?

She said the EK, and I'm like, yes,

but also how did you know?

And she goes, I used to have one.

So that was good.

So, but no, I think it's a decent amount.

It would have been higher,

but we had COVID, of course.

So that's down.

Put a dampener on your mileage, that damp.

It really, really did.

We really should be at 750 by now, boys.

It was very hard going from like 1,000 Ks a week to five.

I did not know what to do with myself.

But yeah, no, it's good.

And I've kind of,

I've ordered some,

my aunt would call it nerdy merch for Classic Japan.

every time that she, and also when I mentioned

the milestone people at work,

a few were nice, but most important was kind of weird,

including my aunt.

So I just call her Kluge Mum now,

and she doesn't know what to say in response.

I do like politics and like today's 50th anniversary

of Goff Whitlam's dismissal.

So I find that interesting.

My really daggy music taste as well.

And then just generally complain about other Honda drivers.

I do feel as though owning five.

I can wind about other Honda drivers completely guilt-free.

And of course, trying to avoid all Victoria's potholes

And also people who seem to not know what a brake pedal is

when they're approaching intersection as well.

But that's always good.

I, as I have said to many and a few people,

I have promised myself when I get to a million Ks,

I am manual swapping my car because I'm sick to death of a CVT.

Yeah.

About half a million manual, half a million auto.

Yeah.

Sort of a, you know.

That's a good, that's fair.

I'm about that, Chad.

I'm about that.

You probably pick one up for 50 bucks.

Yeah.

Probably.

I just want to say, Jim, I commend you on,

on surviving a CVT for 320,000 kilometers.

Really?

Although the good thing is so in a way,

and I don't mean this in a disparaging way,

but getting into like first gen magnets with carburetors

and stuff.

And for most people, you know,

it's got to change in acceleration times.

Whereas to me, it was quite familiar.

Yeah.

What year was the Civic, Jim?

98.

98 CVT technology is the same as a four speed auto

from the late 80s.

Yeah.

That's crazy.

Although, although I will say,

I cannot handle the pretend steps in modern CVTs

because at least money isn't pretentious.

It doesn't pretend it's an automatic.

It's just, it's better to have it just one sad gear

instead.

Exactly.

And you have to, you have to plan every manoeuvre

like there's a hill.

Accelerate now.

Build it up.

Oh yeah.

We've made it.

As opposed to things breaking in front of me.

Now I'm stuffed.

So Jim, in other words,

no amount of VTEC that car has will help you with,

when the car would just sit at constantly at 8,500 RPM.

Pretty much.

Like, and also true, I think because it is quite,

it's done quite a bit of driving now is that

it needs to be prodded quite a bit before it's like,

oh, you've got to actually do something.

So that's always fun too.

I am used to it now, but ordering you,

definitely would have gone with the manual.

Although I guess one of the small things I can sort of say

to people is, like to other EK owners is,

well, mine came from factory with a centre console

and the cup holders.

I didn't have to have mine 3D printed.

That is also true.

That is very true.

And I guess, you know, like new cars are expensive,

but when I looked it up,

my car would have cost $60,000 in today's money.

Jesus Christ.

It was the same price as a V6 Camry Auto

and a manual T e Sports V6 Magna, I think.

What the hell?

It was expensive.

I actually went just up the cable for the weekend

trial bike riding and when I came back,

I went to touch a diff and a diff was pretty hot.

So I need to work out exactly because they're supposed to run

between 100 and 20 and 170 Fahrenheit at that sort of maximum.

So I need to maybe run a proper thermo type gauge on it

to see what it's actually running at,

to see how hot it's running.

It is running hot.

I think hotter than normal.

Maybe run it up and down some very steep hills.

Maybe hot enough.

Just wait for it to seize up.

But if that replaced bearings on it after it replaced the diff,

something seriously has gone wrong with the bearings beforehand.

Obviously, they've changed the diff but put the drive shaft

or axles back in with the old bearings

when they shouldn't have.

Then they replaced the bearings on it

and they did put new steering rack in it

because the steering was squeaky.

So it's just one thing after another.

It's a comedy of, I don't know, replacements really.

But we'll see what happens.

I'll just drive it.

I put the wall back up so I wouldn't hear the noise

and it isn't as loud,

but you can still hear it at a certain...

When you decelerate between 90 and 80 kilometers an hour,

you can actually hear it whining as you let off the throttle.

When the market kind of reaches this little balance points to me. Yeah, that's where the price will settle up

But my friends and I always joke that every car's gone up except my friend
