Whatever they're coming Wednesday, so I just I have enough stuff to do to I just had to shift gears and started working on the
Actually started metal finishing out the hood because it was never I got the
The welds kind of finished out a little bit and stretch back out, but never really actually finished
So now I got the hood
All the high spots shrunk down and that's actually looking like there'll be very very minimal mud in it
which is kind of a goal so
Then I got up the rear valence as well because it so the quarter panels in the back drop down on the on the 66
To match the the rockers that we extended down and then so when you look at it from the back of the car
then it almost looks like
This big weird wedgy thing because it's the quarter panels coming up so extended down the corners of the
rear valence to kind of start at this
Swooping fashion that we're kind of it's gonna kind of come around to the quarter panel
So from the back, it's gonna look really aesthetically pleasing the whole idea is like from any angle
You're not seeing a bad
Like a bad line on the car
So you like that's why at night when you're walking around the car and channel
I'm trying to visualize a bad angle and if I can find one that's that's usually the problem
not that that we're trying to
like spend all the time changing everything about the car, but if we're going to be doing something and
Fabricating something I'd rather it be like makes sense and flow and have a purpose, you know

But it was just making like a simple little curve, but sometimes it's standing back and doing a couple tape lines getting the right curve down, you know

It was actually pretty tricky welding that in because I didn't want that because that outside lip where it gets welded to the outside of the quarter panel
You can't really get in there to finish it out with any sort like with anything, you know, so you don't really want it to
Shrink up too much and warp too much when you're welding it in
So I made a piece of flat bar steel that kind of followed that curvature and retained the
It really worked really well
It it almost it wasn't wrapped against the backside of the weld
So it didn't the heat soak the weld too bad
But it did take the heat away from right next to the weld so it wouldn't really warp or anything
You never really got really
Wavy or anything so it it helps that the scoops were made out of 18 gauge
So they're really in comparison to the quarter panel very thick
So it helped keep everything a little more sturdy, but yeah, I think it turned out really awesome
But it's welded on the inside of the wheel opening too. I do want to do some sort of
Vent or something so potentially rocks or something wouldn't come back through
And I don't necessarily know that I don't necessarily know that seeing the tire through that is aesthetically pleasing
So I have an idea for some vents that I kind of came up with I kind of had a had a vision on Friday
That it'd be nice to it'd be cool to have like a
Almost like louver vents that comes to like straight down like this
So when you're looking in there like like this kind of almost I don't know if that makes sense, but
I have an idea so
Kind of yeah, yeah, yeah, like yeah, you're right, right, but yeah, I don't know we'll see I
Gotta you know get the car welder the other first before we start thinking about that kind of shit, but
In the wheel arch it hooks off to the side a little bit so it diverts the air to the side and then there's no straight through
It's straight through so the whole idea was to keep that
The panel that continues in the middle of the door that I replaced that that goes all the way through like that that
Plane is like that'll be bodywork like it's one straight plane that'll go all the way through to the scoop
So it doesn't really it just like the it's almost like the continuation of from the front of the of the
Wheel the front wheel opening like the inside of those two body lines
It's just a continuation of that going through that that side scoop
So it's once it's all bodyworked in it'll look really fucking cool like and
The scoop almost looks double as thick because of the reflection of the panel behind it
So it's like it almost it's gives it a weird like it almost from the side looks factory because the line is just the same
But then once you start turning and you're seeing the depth change. It's really really cool
Well that's it wanted they wanted those scoops like the side scoops
The Shelby style that kind of stick out and they look like
To me they just once they start putting all these scoops on the side of the car that stick out it looks really like really I

So we kind of essentially wide-bodied a
Geometro in the back. So we did you know, we body worked it all in
You know, we made I made some sheet metal that would cover the flares and or that would cover the wheel openings that basically essentially made flares
On the back of this metro and body worked them all in so it was all part of the class
It's like so you're learning a lot of different aspects. There's people welding
There's people doing bodywork is people priming and painting. So that's pretty cool

Shaping up pretty decent and just trying to get everything that I fabricated a long time ago welded in so
Don't know if it's getting the vision down, you know a complete vision down all the way around the car making sure things are
the same side same same size
side to side and then actually installing it as a whole another thing so
It's not just a quarter bottoms
It's the in it's the drop-off in the quarter you got a drop down to so everything so the quarter panel seals off so it's I
Mean it's a some of it's easier just to cut cut the panel and make a new flat panel that goes in in its place
You know easy as that, but it's still some it sells time

I think to me the first side you're always
Your I have a lot more anxiety going through it because you're trying to figure it out a little more of the second side seemingly
It either goes two ways it goes really really smooth and a lot faster

It's getting that torch in that in that scoop in inside because it's the inside edge that I had to weld together
So it was a pretty challenging and it was the first time ever actually
Successfully take welded with my left hand and my torch in my left hand so that was interesting

I'm so used to not having a pedal. I don't think introducing it wouldn't make things easier for me

You needed to let it stop you need to stop and let it cool down

Most of the time like if a friend's welding on something he can send me a picture of it now and I could be like

I can get the sheet metal to stick to one another and have good penetration and be able to hammer it out
And that's kind of what it's all about here
But you know efficiency at being being able to not have throw a bunch of filler out in it and then grinding it all back out
That's just being efficient that way is giving better at that
You still need some filler rod to be able to get that
You're not you're never gonna fuse the two panels together and they're not be avoid to some extent

Shrinking reasons just to keep the shrink as even as possible
But yeah, definitely different angles of this of of TIG welding for sure
It's okay. It kind of just forced me into having to be a better welder
I mean every time I pick it up it's seeming I I can actually pick it up and I'm not all tense
So I can actually like I feel like I'm better at it now because I'm not like

for me
Because because I'm if everything is so really small and tiny that you know the welds are pretty pretty small
When you're just but welding sheet metal
Sometimes it's seeing
the line of if your panels are like
Tack tack together and really really tight and all you see is this really really tiny line that you're supposed to weld up
It's hard to see sometimes I
Have the side of the metal I
Mean sometimes it's you want you know like accidentally walk off a little bit because you're like
It's a man it like there was just like a something in the metal that you saw and he just like caught your eye and you went that way
But yeah, it happens I
Mean so sometimes I try not to clean the metal up too much so I can tell the difference between
You know it's flat, but it's not like clean like clean enough to weld
But not like a sanded finish all the way across so you your eye loses it
But that's just a struggle for me
