00:31
All right, happy new year. We're back. We're coming in hot with it's a whole new year.
00:35
2026. You and I barely had time off. We had a little bit of time away from the madness.
00:40
I don't know if it was time off. It was just time away from the madness.
00:44
Yeah, it wasn't really vacation. It was just time away. That's a good way of putting it.
00:47
We both got colds, so we're still recovering from that. So I apologize if the voice is a
00:51
little weird or we cough or something. But anyway, we're thrilled to be back because we've
00:54
actually missed talking to you guys. We skipped last week. We're back with a vengeance. It's
00:58
very exciting. All of you right. Notice that was a diehard reference from my diehard shirt
01:02
the last time. Awesome. It's okay. We have so many things to talk about because we've got dates
01:06
to release on stuff going on in 2026. But if you haven't seen it yet, please go to our original
01:11
channel right here and watch our Beartooth piece, which is listed as how to test drive
01:17
mini cars on a great road. That was our road trip from Beartooth in September into September.
01:22
It just came out essentially the first of January and many of you were talking about
01:25
many of you were on the trip and are talking about it further. It was just
01:29
that is the right time capsule of what it's like to do that trip.
01:33
It was pretty awesome. And thanks to Powerstop for coming alongside us for that video
01:36
because they wanted us to produce a video that is a day in the life. What is a trip like go on
01:42
the trip with us. And so that was the entire intent of the video is to take you along with us.
01:46
And then we got some cool test drives. While we were on the road, we drove some attendees,
01:52
some drivers cars and found a hidden gem in that WRX wagon, which is very awesome. So if you
01:58
haven't seen that, definitely check that out. That's our latest video. It's just a cool way
02:02
to share. Like you said, just day in the life. It turned out exactly the kind of tone we're
02:06
going for, which is you do get the feel of what those trips like, which are really special.
02:10
We got a lot more trips coming this year. We should dive in with news. Have you noticed that
02:14
Dodge has just decided they should just do what they do well? I think it's awesome. I'm so glad
02:20
they did. And I love this piece of news because of your 8% love for the truck. Probably more than
02:28
that, actually. Honestly, it's probably more than that. I don't need to pick up. It's not secret love.
02:32
I don't need to pick up. If I was going to pick up, it would be the Ram TRX and it's back. I'm
02:36
showing it in green here. It's back. It's now listed as the Ram SRT TRX. It's the first time
02:41
they put an SRT badge on since I don't care. It doesn't matter. The point is the supercharged
02:46
Hemi with the supercharger wine is back, but they didn't leave it alone. It was like 707
02:51
horsepower. Now it's 777. It's the perfect number. 777 horsepower. It's the perfect number.
02:58
You know it. The perfect number, man. That's what we've got. We got to call out the raptor.
03:02
I mean, okay, whatever. What this means that what Dodge does well, they're going to do it again.
03:07
Yes. That's why their sales disappeared because they didn't sell what the people wanted.
03:12
That's the whole point, car companies. Make what people want to buy.
03:16
Don't stop making that. The old charger and challenger were huge sales and then they just
03:21
stopped making it. Guess what happened? It's the struggle against regulation and them trying to
03:28
balance what the governments are saying they have to do and what their customers are saying they
03:33
want to buy. And I actually think that dichotomy, that struggle is nowhere more apparent than Dodge.
03:42
Yeah. I blame the prior CEO, Carlos Tavares too, because he wanted to get away from that Hemi.
03:47
I realize. I realize. Yes. Just regulation. Well, but, but he's saying this is where the world's
03:52
going. And I think if I get different, you know, had been like, our audience will not go with us.
03:57
So we're going to keep selling these until you force us not to. Yeah. That would have been a
04:00
bolder move. It's not what happened. But I mean, we talked about this a lot. Every car brand is
04:05
pivoting right now, but Dodge was hurt more than most. And here it comes. The Hemi supercharged
04:12
in the truck. You don't need, I don't need it. It's super awesome. It's even more now. But I do.
04:16
Here's the thing. This is going to be a $100,000 truck. I have, I have a counterpoint. As much
04:21
as I love this truck, I have a counterpoint. We're in the world of $100,000 pickup trucks now.
04:24
With, with 777 horsepower. I mean, this is insane. Yes. I actually think the RHO
04:30
becomes a killer deal as a result of this. I agree. And I would pick an RHO. Yeah. Since I
04:35
don't need this truck anyway, I would take an RHO because it's, it's less price is like,
04:38
it's like 70 something thousand dollars. And it also means resale on those is going to plummet.
04:44
So if you want to deal on essentially a TRX or the being a TRX, you'll buy the RHO
04:48
and get slightly better gas mileage. Instead of getting like six, you'll get like 10.
04:52
That's going to be awesome. Terrible on this thing. But this is what customers want. They made
04:57
it more even better. Apparently the transmission is improved as well. Which is nice to hear.
05:03
6.2 liter supercharged Hemi V8, 680 pound feet of torque. That torque flight eight speed auto,
05:10
like I said, that's been updated and improved zero to 60 in three and a half seconds.
05:15
You needed your truck. This is a house. It's a house. Get to 60 miles an hour. It's a house.
05:19
35s, 35 inch tires, Bilstein Blackhawk E2 adaptive shocks with ram active terrain dynamics and 14
05:26
inches of maximum suspension travel. And it arrives the second half of 2026. And then
05:32
commemorating the return of this TRX customers can option their TRX as a blood sport night
05:36
edition. It's actually bloodshot, but I like blood sport better because that just sounds cooler.
05:42
It's a black truck with a bunch of red splash on it. And frankly, this nice green is better.
05:48
The green is actually pretty nice. I don't need, I don't need the blood splatter graphics. It looks
05:53
fine. Blood splatter. Hey, that's what should have been. That's even better. That's what they
05:56
wanted. You know what they wanted to call it on a lawyer stepped in. That's what they wanted to call
05:59
it. Blood splatter TRX. They wanted to call it that. I guarantee you. That's excellent. And some
06:04
lawyer went, can't do that, but you could do this. They sent alternatives. They sent them back a
06:08
memo with one of these three is allowed, but blood splatter is not. I promise you. We're not done
06:13
talking about the new trucks from Ram. I mean, good job, Stellanus. You did something right.
06:18
Good job for acknowledging for all the missteps that they've had lately. This is right. They've
06:24
brought back the power wagon too. And for the first time have now put the 6.7 liter inline
06:29
six Cummins turbo diesel in the power wagon. Read recently that there was a fight, the internal
06:36
battle as to allowing the winch to be installed on this, but it would block the cooling. And so
06:42
they deleted the winch in the name of torque and towing capacity, almost 20,000 pounds of towing
06:48
capacity in a diesel truck with more than 1000 pound feet of torque, 1000 pound feet diesel.
06:56
And here it is pulling five UTVs with no issues because that's what you want to do with your
07:01
power wagon is tow stuff as a diesel. It's saying here 31 gallon fuel tank, potentially
07:06
potentially 600 miles of range. Yes, it's a diesel. Yes. Diesel's are back everyone with
07:12
lots of power. I guess. Yeah. I mean, not at Volkswagen. They don't know what that word means.
07:17
Except I did read the ID buzz was going away. And then coming back, I read both over the
07:21
holiday. I read both one day. I read going away next day. I read coming back in. So they're going.
07:26
Here's the thing. It's going away for at least a year, but it's supposedly coming back in the US
07:29
only. There won't be 26 models. There'll be 27, which means you can't buy one. No one's buying
07:34
them. You can't buy one for the next nine months is what that pretty much means. They should bring
07:37
the buzz back with a diesel. There you go. Just in a thick twist of irony. The ID blah.
07:43
Yeah, it's just the blah. Yeah, the diesel. Yeah, there you go. Ram's proving diesel is back.
07:48
So I love to see it. Other things that are pending. We don't know if this is going to
07:51
happen yet, but I'm going to talk about it anyway, because there is a bill out there in Arizona
07:57
to make rural highways in Arizona speed limit free during the daylight hours. I did see this.
08:04
Now, again, it's just a proposal. It's a bill that hasn't been signed. It isn't happening yet,
08:09
but the reality is, if you're not in a major metropolitan area and you're in a state like
08:14
Arizona, Utah, Texas, Montana, who did this before. Why are we slowing down at all? I mean,
08:22
it's kind of what it is in central and southern Utah anyway right now. Go the speed you would
08:26
like to go. I mean, don't be stupid. But the reality is it should say that on the signs.
08:30
Seriously, it just should say speed limit, be considerate or something.
08:35
But I mean, the reality is if you have a tiny little car with the lowest horsepower on the road,
08:41
you'd be amazed how fast that thing can go. Over 100 miles an hour in an Econobox doable.
08:47
But the space is so great. The roads are so open and free.
08:52
It's a two lane road. There's nothing to hit.
08:54
There's nothing out there. You might as well go faster and pay attention more instead of slowly
08:58
and looking at your phone and do anything else. If you're going quickly, well now you're paying
09:02
attention and driving. So I would think safety would go up, but it's theory.
09:07
Yes. Well, and the other thing is anytime, and I'm sure we'll get letters about this,
09:10
anytime people talk about raising speed limits, there are those that talk about how speed kills.
09:16
Okay. The faster you go, the more dangerous the crash. Agreed. But if you look at the
09:22
all the stats, speed is a factor in many accidents, but it's not even like it's a factor in
09:28
more than half. If I remember correctly, and I could be wrong, I remember correctly,
09:32
the stat is something like 25 or 30% of accidents is how it's listed.
09:36
But that means the reverse stat is the majority of accidents, speed was not the problem.
09:41
If you flip this, if you're right, it's a factor in many other things as part of that,
09:45
you know, whatever. How about paying attention? And I don't think to your point,
09:48
the person doing triple digits is looking at their phone.
09:52
I don't think so either. So I just, there's semi trucks doing 90 plus out there
09:58
and to get around them. I've experienced this in Utah, you have to.
10:01
In central Utah on interstate 15 going south, you want to get past a trucker that's going
10:07
almost 100. Welcome to 120 to get around quickly and out of their way.
10:11
Because 15 through Utah is posted 85, which means because we all follow the,
10:16
this is what we've heard rules, that means that if you're going 94 and below,
10:20
you won't get pulled over. So everybody's doing around 90. Everybody.
10:23
Every guy pulling his boat to the lake is doing 90. Yeah.
10:32
And to your point, the semi, he just passes doing every bit of 80, 85.
10:35
Absolutely. So if you are a car, try to get around these guys, you are well into triples,
10:41
but it's a freeway. The roads design, the car can handle it. I am all for this. I will be,
10:46
I will, I'm going to put it out there now. I'll be shocked if this passes, but I'm all for it.
10:51
Yeah, I agree. I mean, we need clearly the new Ram TRX, SRT TRX to go fast.
10:57
I noticed that they did not increase their top speed. It's still 118 miles an hour,
11:01
which we determined was true. Yes. When we did that, actually, we were in the middle of nowhere
11:05
and we tested both the zero to 60, actually all three, the zero to 60, the jump detection
11:11
and the top speed. All of those could be verified in the middle of nowhere.
11:16
Yeah. Probably because aerodynamics and actually weight does come into play at that point.
11:21
118 miles an hour in that brick is astonishing. It really is.

12:48
We have a unique topic Tuesday. I wasn't sure about this at first. And the more I dug in,
12:53
I have many thoughts on this now. Oh, you do? Yeah, I really unpacked this.
12:58
Adam wrote in and said, he's curious to hear our thoughts on the following. This is a three-part
13:02
question. What car would we like to experience for one night, what car we like to experience for
13:09
one day, and what car we like to experience for one week? And the key is, as soon as that
13:14
indecent proposal. Yeah, as soon as that, that's very funny. As soon as that time period is over,
13:20
we can never drive or purchase that car again. This is a one-time shot indecent proposal. It's
13:25
very funny. One-time shot at this car. Exactly right. So one night, one day, one week, I really
13:31
like this. It's cool. Adam, thank you for writing. Really appreciate it. Yeah, I'm intrigued by this.
13:36
He doesn't think there would be a car that he would like to drive again. His choices in order
13:42
would be the Hennessey Venom, Lamborghini Yalpa, and the Lamborghini LM002. He wants to know our
13:50
thoughts. Yeah, one night, one day, and one week. And then you can never drive or own them ever again.
13:58
It's going down in your life. You will never come back. You have that experience and we're done.
14:01
Mm-hmm. I started with the one night. I want to see this. I want to know.
14:05
And I thought it would be some sort of Lamborghini because I would drive the Lamborghini at night
14:10
like the new Ruelto. Okay. I drive it at night so nobody would recognize me. And I wouldn't
14:15
experience the embarrassment and shame of driving a Lamborghini around. I could just
14:18
like drive it secretly and not have anybody know that I'm driving it. I should acknowledge for those
14:22
of you watching and listening, Paul is very concerned about the fact that Lamborghini's have,
14:26
and rightfully concerned, Lamborghini's become YouTuber cars. They're for Saudi Sheik's
14:31
and YouTubers. That's it. And the Saudi Sheik's don't drive them. The YouTubers drive them too
14:35
much. Yes. And that's what the brand has become known for. And so Paul is very concerned about
14:39
the fact that we release videos on YouTube. But what if we end up driving a Lamborghini?
14:43
I don't know. I just feel like there's a stigma attached to it that isn't good.
14:47
And like you and I keep talking about the era of supercar ownership is sort of like
14:52
a jillion people have all these expensive supercars. It feels weird. Yeah, it does.
14:56
Like we're over it and watching people crash their supercars or brag that they got some
15:01
sort of supercar. But I still want to drive them. So the Lamborghini, I thought, well,
15:05
yeah, maybe at night in secret. So nobody knows that I'm, you know, actually want to
15:09
like what if I like it? I don't want anybody to know. Funny, funny. Okay. But I left that behind.
15:14
I actually decided and it's a little tough because all my choices are supercars actually.
15:21
Okay. All right. And I decided on the Aston Martin Valkyrie, which was first revealed in 2018.
15:27
This is kind of an old car. That's crazy. It's that long ago. Can you believe that? Yeah.
15:30
But I'm intrigued by this F1 style thinking like the Mercedes AMG1 and the Valkyrie, you know,
15:37
stick an F1 engine in a road car. Let's see what she can do. And it's all about aerodynamics.
15:41
But the bubble cockpit of this really intrigues me. Yeah. I don't know that I want to spend
15:46
a lot of time with this. I do want to experience it. And I'm fine to never drive it again or own it
15:52
because it seems really cramped and you have to really overlook a lot of things,
15:57
even more so than old 80s and 90s supercar in the show. It comes with headphones.
16:01
Sound cancelling headphones you talk to your passenger. Yes. But you know, the
16:04
cramp, I don't know how big it is. I don't know if I'd fit. I don't know if I'd enjoy it. I think
16:09
probably not that much. Interesting. But I want to experience it. And what a stealth, cool, interesting
16:14
drive around like when Adam, when does the time period start? Is it like evening so I could
16:20
take it to dinner? Like, what are we talking for night? I think it's great. Let's let's
16:23
let's let's assume could I start at like 6 p.m. 6 p.m. till dawn? Because then we have an evening
16:28
with it, you know, maybe it's still light out, you know, I'll take a long summer day to do all
16:31
this. So drop it off at 6 p.m. And there are some the trucks coming back at six in the morning.
16:35
Let's just assume that. Okay, six, 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Yep. Okay, see that way I can drive it to dinner,
16:40
show it off and make everybody think that I own it even though I really don't and I'll never be
16:45
able to drive it again. But I don't know that it's something that I want to do really high speed
16:50
in. I just want to experience it in normal speeds and definitely drive it quickly somewhere, you
16:55
know, out in the open road. Well, in Arizona, once they delete this, apparently, yes, or something.
16:59
Yes. So that is my one night. It's like a one night stand with a car. It is weird. It is for
17:07
sure. That's what it is. Yeah, it's indecent proposal. I love that you said that because
17:11
that's exactly what this is. That's what I was thinking about. Yeah, except you want to pay the
17:14
million dollars. But anyway, you don't have to pay anything, but you can't own it or buy it.
17:18
Anyway, all right. So moving on to the one day and that would be a Ferrari F40 for me. I want
17:24
to experience this. I don't know that I ever really want to own this car. I mean, I think I do,
17:29
but I don't know. I mean, these take a lot of care and feeding. True. Yeah. Do they not? I mean,
17:36
we've seen people driving around and that's good. They made actually quite a few more than
17:40
anybody ever thought. So there's actually weirdly a lot of F40s floating around.
17:45
There's probably a lot for sale. That's crazy because we see them kind of, I mean,
17:48
they show up at cars and coffee. They're in every car museum I've ever been to. Yeah,
17:51
they're always, you can always find an F40 for sale. Yeah, fair. And they're all, what are these,
17:57
three million dollars, 1.5, I don't know. They're a lot. Yeah, they are. But I don't know that I
18:01
really want to own an F40, but I sure want to experience it and I want to drive it in the daytime.
18:06
What a monster. What a cool thing. I want to have someone track. I want to have it on a
18:09
Canyon Drive. I want to have a full day. So our day starts at what? 6 a.m.? Because that's when
18:15
the track goes hot at 8. Well, so I'd need it at 6. Drive to the track. Breakfast. Yeah,
18:19
track goes hot at 8. Because the night is 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Then right at 6 a.m. is day times
18:26
6 to 6 p.m. for the day. This is good. You could even do a dawn till dusk. We could even go that
18:32
far in the summertime. You could do, this one I'll give you like 6, 7 a.m. until like 8 or 9
18:36
at night. So it doesn't have to be in the summertime. Concurrent. I don't think so. We don't have to
18:40
look at the rules. Who cares? Who cares? Okay, I like that. So yeah, F40. I want to try this thing
18:45
out. I want to experience it in daytime. I want a full 24 hours, I'll say. I like that. And that
18:50
way I can kind of experience all aspects of this from some track time to some Canyon driving,
18:55
like I said, and just puttering around town and just kind of feeling like, wow, an F40,
19:00
it's a 40-year-old car, a 40-plus-year-old car. And just kind of experience all that goes with a
19:06
that goes with a Ferrari F40. And then moving on to one week. I am so intrigued by the Gordon
19:13
Murray S1 Le Mans, the ones that were, he said only five were being built and one owner bought
19:19
four of them, re-bought all five and then decided he didn't need the fifth or something and jettison
19:24
that. He realized he already had cars in every one of his other houses. Only four of his houses
19:28
had garage space left. I'm sure it's what the thinking was. Yeah. Whoever got that last slot,
19:32
it was 20 million. I think it was auctioned for 20 million. That's a lot of money. But I want to
19:38
experience this car and you'll notice this one also comes with headphones. So it's probably pretty
19:42
loud. I want to take time to get to know this car. But it's also a car that you have to be
19:50
extremely wealthy to just deal with. It can't sit and the owners that own these probably won't let
19:56
them sit. Any of the Gordon Murray, the T33, the T50s, I doubt they'll let them sit because they
20:00
know Gordon drives his stuff unlike a lot of other collectors that just amass the collection. I hope
20:07
they get driven. I can't imagine that they will, but I hope they will. I would think so. Full week
20:11
with this would seem really exciting. And I feel like I would feel fulfilled. Spending
20:17
entire week with this and you'll notice they're all supercars. All three of my choices are supercars
20:22
knowing that I don't want to own them or be able to buy them anything. I'm okay with that.
20:29
And then letting it go and having satisfied a full week with that car. I think I could do that.
20:36
I could live with this for a week. I'm so intrigued with this thing. I think it's so superb and it's
20:40
probably everything that we think the pure driving magic from Gordon Murray is buried into this car.
20:47
I think that's for sure. Good. Good. Good. As always, Paul and I do not discuss,
20:52
but you'll see that we've met each other. We know each other. So there'll be some overlap
20:55
here a little bit, not directly, but you'll see where this goes. When I think about one night,
21:00
that's date night. New Year's Eve just finished. I think about the fact that New Year's Eve is that
21:05
like eternal night where stuff keeps going on. I picked the extended wheelbase Rolls Royce Phantom
21:11
for one night. I don't need to own this car. I'll be honest, I don't even need to drive this car.
21:16
But your wife would like riding in the backseat like she did with the G90. Would you drive her
21:20
around? I might ride in the backseat. I might get somebody to drive. I don't care. Drive it,
21:24
ride it, don't care. The reality is if we're talking about one night, 6 p.m., 6 a.m.,
21:28
this is a long date night in some crazy city. I'm going to pick Vegas even though it's not
21:32
the right one. Maybe Abu Dhabi. Here we go. Maybe something like that. You're just going and you
21:40
have a super long date night and this is your transit from place to place to place. You can't
21:46
do better. You can't do more luxurious. The extended wheelbase has got like more than airline quality
21:51
back seating as far as the legroom. I don't need to own this half million dollar car.
21:57
I don't even necessarily need to drive it. I would, but I'd be perfectly happy sitting in the back
22:02
with my wife. This is the one night car. The half million dollar Rolls Royce extended wheelbase.
22:09
It's good. Yeah. Talk about a car you don't want to ever own. Yes. I mean,
22:13
but experience. I have no need for it. There's no part of my life. Look, here's a crazy thing.
22:18
I need a Ram TRX more than I need something like this.
22:22
And I don't need a Ram TRX. Need. I know. That's what I'm saying. I've stretched need,
22:26
real, said you look through it. It's transparent now. That's been stretched as far as it goes.
22:30
So there you go. So then that means one day. What's a car I drive for one day and thoroughly
22:36
enjoy. And I even thought about where I picked the Fright F 50 50 the F 50 as I'm showing it. I
22:44
am showing the open top F 50. Yeah. I'm imagining a one day, perfect day road trip. Is it PCH?
22:52
Is it bare tooth pass? What is it? And all that I have to do that day is just drive this car
22:57
on an amazing scenic road. I'm not worried about tracking this. Just an amazing scenic road.
23:04
Scenery all around. No top. Here's the thing. I don't want to drive no top for a week, but a day
23:10
on a gorgeous day on a perfect road with a V 12 screaming behind. I think these F 50s are overlooked
23:17
because the F 40s are so iconic. I don't have very many of these either. What about in Italy?
23:23
What about a day with this? Sure, some perfect roads in Italy. Stop for lunch. I mean, the Italians
23:28
would celebrate. Of course. Yes. But that's what I'm saying. Instant rocks. It'd be about
23:32
putting car with right road itineraries key here. One day point to point road trip down
23:39
fantastic roads. Open top all day. Start early. Stop for a nice lunch. Go till the end of the day
23:45
when the truck picks it up. One day for our F 50. That's good because I also kept thinking
23:51
a one day perfect road experience. You got to have an open top. Well, true. And I'm not even a guy
23:57
that like I must have a convertible, but for that kind of experience. Yes. Yes. We're going to do it.
24:01
Put on the sunscreen. Here we go. Okay. V 12 phenomenal. And I think after that point, I'd be
24:07
like, you won't get a better experience version of this car. The F 50 done perfectly. Don't need to
24:13
track it. Call it a day. And it's a superb. I think you're right. These are overlooked. I mean,
24:18
they are they are worth a fortune because there's very few of them and they never come up for sale.
24:22
But I do think in kind of like enthusiast think. Yeah, everybody goes F 40,
24:27
query GT. People don't think F 50. I think they're really cool. So anyway, F 50 is on that list.
24:33
And then my one week is where we get the closest. But I went original McLaren F 1.
24:39
Because these are so expensive to buy if you can even find one for sale.
24:43
Then all you hear if you ever read an article about the McLaren F 1, two things come up.
24:48
Best driver's car ever. And can you believe how much insert part here costs for McLaren F 1?
24:55
It doesn't matter what it is. windshield, windshield wiper, side mirror, somebody to
24:59
code it. It's it's tens of thousands of dollars to do anything to this car. I lose a gold plated
25:05
wrench somehow. Who knows. So the idea of owning this or even buying it is horrific. But you know
25:11
those those weird auto journalists things that happen, where somebody gets given a car out of
25:15
a collection to just go experience. Okay, that's the experience with this car. I want to put at
25:21
least 2000 miles on in a week. Yeah, I want to have at least one track day. Yeah. And I want to do
25:26
a link up of great roads. And I'm going to live with it every day. Like get up this morning.
25:30
What am I doing? I'm getting in this car. I'm driving it till lunch. I'm driving it further
25:32
till dinner. I'm going to sleep tomorrow, rinse and repeat, create a fantastic road trip. Yes,
25:39
at least one track day. But the point here is not track day. The point of that the reason for
25:42
track day is to really just to experience experience on a track. But I want to live with it. Yeah.
25:47
And I want to live with it on great roads and do miles because that's nothing these cars don't
25:53
typically do miles. They can they're worth so much now that they've reached a place I love this
25:59
as a collector car this has reached a place where miles don't matter insane. That is so rare in car
26:06
collected that a car doesn't matter if it gets more miles. They're so beloved and so rare.
26:13
I want one of these 2000 miles in a week. I want to experience it. And then I realized because
26:18
it's so expensive to buy, own, maintain everything and the keys back. You can have it back that have
26:24
fun with the maintenance in the upkeep with that. I won't get a better F one experience than that
26:28
week. That's really good. And you tell me I can never drive again. I'm sure I'd be bummed. But
26:33
what an experience. Okay, so for the night category, we've got all named after movies that
26:38
is indecent proposal. We're nicely done proposal with ours. Yep. For the day, it's from dawn till
26:44
dusk. Well, does till dawn, but you know, there was a dust till dawn movie anyway. Quentin Tarantino.
26:49
So what is for the week? What do we name them the movie for the week? We'll just call it 168
26:54
hours. That hasn't been a movie, but it's but it's a concept. So we'll just call it 168 hours.
26:58
It's been 48 hours. There's been a bunch of different like it. Okay, good. Now we've got it.
27:04
We've got our names. Okay, so Adam, after we get done with these experiences, can we swap then?
27:11
Can we do it? That's funny. I like it. It's good. Then you know, he gets to drive the three I chose
27:18
and that's very good. And then we've really, you just want to double up on the F one experience.
27:23
That's kind of what I'm thinking. Because I want to drive that too. But you know,
27:26
the S one is sort of all the improvements that are, you know, were necessary for some reason.
27:32
I don't know. And the old one, I don't know. So if we can then swap and then we could thoroughly
27:37
ring out everything, I'd be pleased. Looking to create the bath you've always dreamed of

29:10

right now that is the best discounts of the calendar year if you want to drive with hooked
29:25
on driving this year and you do because we got track days all over amazing we were just looking

on our schedule for the year I'm very surprising ourselves yeah with how many track days are
29:34
nationwide with hooked on driving and we're going back to coda many other places that's coming up
29:38
but pre grid pass is the best way to get discounts you're pre buying think of it like a ski pass
29:42
you're pre buying the year to come that is only available to January 15th so keep that in mind
29:47
it's going to end very soon that exists but that's not an event that can be for any event in the
29:51
region where you buy it but events you have your calendar out not if you're driving everywhere else
29:56
it's good we're going back to the west coast we haven't been to the west coast for an adventure in a

31:24
to be some really cool tourist stuff going on also two days on spa and an actual track day
31:30
not a public session a track day on the ring and i'm telling you there is no better way to do the
31:35
ring than a track day august second through eighth it's going to be priced some of the years past
31:40
but a little bit extended trip and i'm very very excited about that when we're going to take
31:44

for our car debate number one zindrick is in iowa he's 24 years old and he's got the car bug bad
34:58
well you're in the right place yes you are he's been listening to the podcast since he was a
35:02
freshman in high school zindrick thank you so much that's really cool it's been watching our video
35:06
since he was in middle school it's been a little while year two i i just came across okay we just
35:11
released this piece with our bare tooth pass trip and you make a mention in there of of your original
35:17
outy wagon so in in my way it was i do for editing and chance even made a note he's like we gotta find
35:23
the original thing so i went back and i found that original video oh my gosh and i watched it
35:28
oh my gosh we've been doing this a long time yes let's do it for a long time okay we have been
35:34
doing this almost like here here's the crazy thing that was made 20 years ago this year
35:39
but it wasn't on youtube until oh seven right later yeah so seven but 20 years ago this year
35:45
it wasn't in january but 20 years ago this year in los angeles we filmed our own cars
35:50
20 years two decades a long time that means insane you could have been watching us since
35:56
elementary school and be 24 but anyway thank you so much for being with us for this long
36:02
it's really awesome we love that it's really great we don't do math not we're not it's always
36:05
grinding yeah because we round up when we're spending your money and uh yeah no math allowed
36:10
but zindrick thank you so much he definitely wants to attend a hooked on driving track day
36:14
sometime good and whenever he can get his car to a nearby surrounding state zindrick comes from
36:20
a long history of a gm family his dad has worked at chevy dealerships for the last 27 years or a
36:26
chevy dealership wow last 20 27 years and still ongoing because of this zindrick's car history
36:33
includes thus far let me guess some chevys a few chevys one or two got it okay o2 chevy trail
36:39
blazer with the ltz package heated seats in a bowster that shook all the crappy plastic
36:44
it's good you like that okay 2018 silverado that was his high school truck with a fatherly
36:50
employee discount on a lease they paid so super cheap and he was fully spoiled for three years in
36:54
high school he took care of the truck and learned the dynamics of car control with an extended bed
36:59
in the winter time so i could imagine yes sure you drift that back just keeps coming around
37:03
here comes here it comes here it comes yep 2021 silverado half ton 3.0 duramax he loved the diesel
37:09
and if you were in the market for a truck he would get it again have you heard about the new ram
37:13
trx or the power wagon as well yes so what else he says this is where it takes a turn he had an
37:19
08 Subaru outback five speed uh-oh he's still gotten his 2012 Subaru wrx hatch that's still in
37:25
his fleet and he currently dailies a 2024 chevy equinox so a pretty brand new equinox despite his
37:32
father's reluctance to anything without a gm badge who else what other fathers i this feels
37:39
quite familiar to me man zindrick i'm right there with you man because this is my experience growing
37:42
up my dad didn't work for gm but somehow that's what we bought his gm branded cars anyway onward
37:47
four years ago zindrick had the opportunity to buy his first manual transmission because he wanted
37:51
to learn so desperately and is hurting his soul not to shift gears himself okay that outback
37:55
taught him a lot about how to work on cars but after a year he had the opportunity to buy an
38:00
attainable dream car which was the 2012 wrx hatchback in dark gray metallic mostly stock aside from
38:06
a tune and taken exhaust but had oiling issues in the oil pickup and rod bearing failure so we spent
38:12
the better half of a month rebuilding the engine forged internals other upgrades and now it makes
38:18
350 wheel horsepower on e85 that's a lot zindrick is your dad listening i think at this point he
38:25
might be listening i'm just going to say something real quickly uh see this has been my dad's struggle
38:30
with non-gm vehicles because the gm vehicles have been good to him by and large and so it puts this
38:36
incredible burden on the first non-gm badge thing you buy in your case you bought an outback and it
38:42
was terrible and i guarantee you dad who might now be listening was like yep if that happens you
38:47
don't buy a gm then you got another super who a wrx it it blew its engine rod bearings etc you have
38:53
to do a whole new engine on that i guarantee dad is shaking his head again see this proves it you're
38:59
right you know it this was the whole struggle with getting my dad out of a gm they have a hunday
39:05
sonata now which they love by the way and i still can't believe they bought that car and i've been
39:11
telling him for 15 years and every time they would buy another car be like have you considered these
39:15
other alternatives that were better than the gm thing he was looking at and they always bought the
39:18
gm product i would also say this the the subarus of the early 2000s you've had all of the super
39:26
issues congratulations you've experienced them all they have gotten a little bit better but here's
39:30
the thing i still wouldn't hold up subruin be like well this is what japanese reliability is supposed
39:35
to be i wouldn't pick subru agreed especially from that era yes exactly so that's the thing there's a
39:48
brand you like and no matter what you have to do to that car it's fine it's fine it's fine but if you
39:55
got another brand you're not sure about it it had the same problems it's unacceptable
40:01
but we give a bit of a free pass to the brands we like true but counterpoint your parents had
40:05
was it a trailblazer equinox and the engine blew equinox it was terrible equinox yes i forget what
40:10
year it was but it was it was not a newer one it was what 10 years old uh well they got one like
40:15
it was probably 10 years they got one it was it was like a 2010 or 2012 and they got a couple years
40:20
old when they got okay so it was used and they drove it for a while and then that engine blowing
40:25
caused them to leave gm to get the Hyundai which i'm glad they have and they're having a good experience
40:30
yeah yeah it's it yeah i mean any car brand has pros and cons yeah any car brand has those known
40:38
issues and you can also have cars that are the exceptions to the rule i'm on my second high
40:44
mile mini and i am not saying that minis are just big reliable cars but i had my second one now
40:49
with super high miles well taken care of that seems to run in spite of its reputation it's
40:55
possible well this equinox is the work car for zindrick he drives a lot for work like a thousand
41:01
miles a week whoa he bought the car in may of 2025 because he figured that getting something new
41:07
with a few miles would last the longest and he'd be able to give it a you know have a long highway
41:12
life with it he said it was an insanely good deal it was a salvage title that was probably not
41:17
supposed to be a friend of his bought it off of copart was 7 000 miles on it put a new bumper on it
41:23
and it was good to go wow no structural damage he paid 16 500 for it and so far it served him well
41:30
the problem is that zindrick hates it we understand this is a daily work car and doesn't need to be
41:36
faster sporty yes zindrick we definitely understand but it's uh it's got that 1.5 liter four cylinder
41:41
it's coarse a tiny turbo that only has power below 3 500 rpm on top of that the transmission sucks
41:49
zindrick feel about it zindrick he writes that he'd rather have a cvt than this terrible six speed
41:54
wow okay i don't think you do but i get the idea i mean that's hyperbole for how bad it is has
42:00
selectable all-wheel drive for harsh iowa winters but doesn't get great gas mileage he averages 27
42:06
mpg which is less than expected but he's on interstates you know going freeway speeds the seats
42:12
are also terrible not only that which only is the engine bad but here we're digging in because seats
42:17
are the thing that's driving him crazy the most he says the six foot one his legs are fairly long so
42:22
they're hanging out too far below the edge of the seat at bottom isn't long enough yep so his
42:27
knees are hanging in space and he realizes that makes his his whole thighs tense up i mean this is
42:32
a common problem we're tall guys we've had it too and that makes his lower back tense up again
42:36
thousand miles a week at the end of the week he just hurts i bet you zindrick if the seats were
42:42
perfect you'd keep driving this without complaint he'd be willing to overlook yeah yeah but the
42:47
seats are the thing that's making you physically hurt with that amount of mileage and you're 24
42:53
when okay if you get out of a car at 84 i'll give you 64 and you go my back hurts okay
42:59
yeah the car 24 in your back hurts those seats aren't good enough that's a problem he spends over
43:05
five hours a day in the car so his hamstrings get really tight yeah tightens up his lower back and so
43:10
he's beat by the end of the week i get it i totally get it your car is beating you up yeah it is for
43:15
sure it doesn't make sense for him to get rid of this car now having only 26 000 miles on it
43:20
but if he wants to get the most out of his money it only makes sense to keep it he gets paid 70
43:24
cents per mile when he's driving it for work which rounds out to between 500 to 800 dollars
43:29
per week in reimbursements wow okay so you get the idea this is where he's going
43:34
with the budget that he's got for the car but for his monthly car payment which would be a lot
43:41
his car loan only has 12 000 left on it he regularly makes extra payments so it should
43:46
be paid off in about a year or less and it would benefit him greatly to just keep driving until
43:50
the wheels fall off but you know what the logic zindrick it's gone past any financial logic or
43:57
just keep it because you got it kind of logic this is affecting your health i agree i agree
44:03
that's a problem and any car you spend a lot of time in and it's affecting your physical nature
44:09
your body which affects your outlook towards your job towards life that's a problem and that right
44:15
there any of this smart financial moves doesn't matter to me anymore what matters is your health
44:21
your back your hamstrings your physical makeup your car is beating you up buddy that can't be and
44:27
for that reason i think you should invest in something else and you've got quite a healthy
44:32
budget to be able to do so because you drive a lot so get something newer more modern yep and well i mean
44:38
it's a 2024 but still something really decent something correct for what he needs even if it's
44:44
not the right because you're right zindrick the right financial thing is you got this for a deal
44:48
it's not worth anything you're paying it off quickly the financial side is stay right where you are
44:53
yes but you are a road warrior and that changes the calculation if you were if you were driving
44:58
let's just put it this way if you were driving 20 miles a day 10 miles to the office 10 miles back
45:03
five days a week okay keep it maybe but yeah thousand miles a week yeah wow all right
45:11
i've said for a lot of years by the way that the hybrid commuters should have the best seats
45:18
i understand like the price yeah yeah for sure yes yes they're driven so frequently and they
45:22
they last so long in the highway those should have incredibly ergonomic seats i agree i understand
45:28
the point of seats are where you take the money out of you throw in cheap foam and cheap materials
45:32
and it brings the cost down and all that stuff but at least the driver's seat i agree at least
45:38
it's this ergonomic masterpiece that you never want to get out of that should be in the Prius and
45:45
the what other long distance commuter hybrid whatever's i wonder like a gr corolla seat or
45:51
you know what the supraseat because it's a bmw seat in a Prius can you imagine the supraseat
45:58
in a Prius that's not really what i want for you zindrick but i was just thinking we're talking
46:01
about good seats in a Prius because bmw and volvo make the best seats i'm just imagining a world
46:06
where a supra has the performance mods you and i talked about and so the prius performance mods
46:12
we talked about at a supra seat at least the option okay maybe you know you don't spec it that way
46:18
but you could have at least the option i want the the good ergonomic seat or the two front seats or
46:23
whatever that makes sense to me so now zindrick has not done any driving homework yet but he knows
46:29
that we're tall we're six foot three zindrick is six foot one and so if he were to get a different
46:33
car once the equinox is paid off by the way i think you should just get out of it right now i think
46:39
it makes sense to get out of it yeah by virtue of you writing to us you're ready to get rid of it
46:44
you're right you're not waiting to pay it off and then we'll see and it'll take some time and then
46:48
you're like well i'm driving a paid off vehicle so it makes sense financially hang on to it screw
46:52
all that get rid of it dump it get rid of it now you make too much yeah on a weekly basis you can
46:58
afford a nice payment a nice monthly payment for something good and you'll instantly be happy
47:04
in your commuting your outlook will be better your friends will say why wow you're not as grumpy as
47:09
you were 70 cents per mile and what you do for a living is drive that's crazy yeah he needs a big
47:15
trunk or a hatch he carries a large 40 to 50 pound pelican case for work i wonder what he does i
47:21
wonder what he does too i wonder that same thing yeah he's an assassin no i'm sorry that's that's
47:25
terrible moving on yeah the guns don't weigh that much but anyway moving on it's a lot a lot of
47:29
firepower yeah exactly anyway he would like that to be able to fit vertically in the car as you be
47:34
our wagon if you were to get a sedan he wants the load floor to be similar to the lucid air where
47:39
there's no relip on the trunk and you can slide things in and out that's tough seats that fit him
47:45
long range he doesn't care really about fuel economy it needs to be decent but he wants to
47:50
go over 500 miles on a tank of fuel understand front or all-wheel drive for iowinners decently
47:55
nice interior he says the equinox is acceptable heated seats are steering wheel yeah but zindrick
47:59
practically every car has that stuff yeah he doesn't like the stereo the speakers are horrible are
48:04
they rattling the cheap plastic in the equinox too yeah probably i think they are he said he
48:08
spent three years installing professional home theaters so he appreciates and needs good sounding
48:13
audio you are also in a different category than most people zinrich because you require that plus
48:18
you spend so much time in there he wants remote start because the subi stays inside where the work
48:23
car is outside i got a $50,000 budget or anything that yields less than $400 per month payment
48:28
since the car pays for itself with the 70 cents per mile that's crazy all right good he doesn't
48:33
have a preference on body style or brand he loves all cars he just likes them to be good ones
48:38
and we can all agree the equinox is not great it's not great yeah he would like to get as much use
48:44
out of it as possible and keeping it with the dies yes girl that you're getting something new
48:49
he said he also did rebuild a subaru yeah you did after two of them broke so he's no stranger
48:53
mechanical services he has a few things he's already looked at he says volvos loves the v60 cross
48:58
country as an option the mazda cx-5 hybrid the honda crv i want to run back through these after
49:03
we list them the subaru outback again the new rav 4 maybe the gr trim the outie a4 all road or
49:10
anything on the genesis products now he hasn't driven any of things i've just listed those are
49:13
just the things on his short list he's hoping we can guide him where did you go i like your
49:19
suggestions about the suvs and i've got some sedan choices for you i want you to consider them
49:25
even though it requires a larger lift over because very few cars have that flat load floor suv style
49:32
in a sedan like you know very true yeah zindrick you already suggested these and i started with
49:38
this comparison that we just recently did when toyota launched the new rav 4 we appreciated
49:44
elements of both so that was the honda crv hybrid up against the new toyota rav 4 hybrid that only
49:50
comes as a hybrid you suggested the gr version the gr sport you don't need that because you don't need
49:56
any ph ev capability your your requirements are just get on the road and go forever so you don't
50:02
need any ev capability for a short short range i am leaning towards the rav 4 i do like how it
50:09
drives i think it's a sensible smart excellent choice the crv is also a great choice the fuel
50:15
economy is fine the seats are decent here's that new uh that new rav 4 i think the styling is
50:21
on point it's smart it's a it's a good choice and it's gonna be easy within your budget
50:26
but i want to focus on the wildcards because i want you to have fun too
50:32
okay even though i know see i'm struggling yeah all of the all the driving he's doing is highway
50:38
miles it's just straight it's not flat just be comfortable enjoy the stereo so the argument
50:43
really can't be made for the wildcards but i want you to look forward to your car it has to be great
50:47
seats and these two that i'm suggesting starting with the honda civic si we've really liked it
50:55
it's a huge car inside it seems like an economy car it's a big car now it is and the trunk is
51:00
enormous i don't know if the pelican case can stand upright like it would in an suv or the lucid
51:05
air it's hard to say yeah but if it can lay flat the trunk is enormous it's a lot of fun to drive
51:11
you didn't specify whether you wanted manual or automatic even though i'm sure you'd be okay with
51:16
both but sometimes the manual transmission version of cars actually gets better fuel economy sure
51:21
than the automatic so here we go a 200 horsepower civic si i think you'd have a lot of fun and front
51:27
wheel drive i think it'd just be a great choice the seats are really good i've always kind of
51:32
wondered about the type r seats in the civic si and what that would be like better better even better
51:39
yes so speaking of which why not the integra type s that's very good it's very good they're 52 000
51:46
dollars new but slightly used you can probably keep it under 50 and your car payments would be
51:50
aligned to i mean you'll you'll end up making money on a monthly basis for your car because
51:56
you're gonna just gonna be putting miles on it but here we go manual transmission so it's going
52:00
to be interesting and enjoyable to drive right up until you put it in sixth gear and then you
52:05
know you're on the highway and then you'll get to shifting more but still good seats good space
52:09
that's a great choice i like that a lot yeah and i think it's a car that you're gonna want to look
52:13
forward to and the reason i chose this was because you suggested hatch and there's a slight lip it's
52:18
not far but it's about the same as most suvs if not slightly lower but there is that slight lift
52:25
over yeah and because it's a hatch i think you'd have plenty of space but you'd look forward to
52:29
driving this thing and it's a hana things gonna run i think you love driving the type s and you'd
52:36
have a lot of fun doing so so seats are quite excellent in this and we just every time we've
52:41
driven it and this was part of our bear tooth film it was it was great that we reviewed and
52:45
what a special car so i think rudy and mylena brought this they might have had the the best
52:50
actual road trip car yeah outside of the fun on bear tooth yeah it was really good it's just
52:55
comfortable it's a sensible choice it's got power it's engaging it's sporty it's even interesting
53:01
on the freeway yeah agreed you're just hanging out and that's you know what you're doing the stereo
53:06
is good i mean it's an accurate so it's another jump in luxury and i think you need to really take
53:11
a look at this integra otherwise i do like all of your suv choices but now's the time to start
53:17
doing homework and seats have got to be really high on your list so i i come back to that volvo
53:21
wagon and that's pretty excellent it's interesting you say that because i we've talked about this a
53:27
lot seats come down to two brands and we recommend a car from each of them volvo is the first one
53:32
you've already brought up volvo but i think the answer for you look you're coming out of an suv
53:37
the volvo xc 60 it's roughly the same size as you equinox you can get one a year or two old
53:43
and probably be well under your budget these get similar gas mileage maybe even a little bit better
53:47
what you're getting now but the seats are revolutionary to what you have now what you're
53:52
looking for is those seats that have got the thigh extension on on the front it tucks out underneath
53:57
your knees and then also the whole seat also holds you in a good place while you have that thigh
54:03
bolstering that you're looking for volvo kills it you would be so hard pressed to find any brand
54:08
that has better seats than volvo xc 60 you get all the benefits the suv are working for your commute
54:14
is this fun to drive no but in some of the trims we've been pleasantly surprised by it there's
54:21
fun to drive and enjoyable sometimes they align but they can be separate that's a great way to
54:27
put it still enjoyable it's an enjoyable place to be when you have corners and that kind of stuff
54:31
you don't think well my gosh what's happening to this vehicle this is by far my favorite obvious
54:36
choice for you great stereo good interior i think you cannot go wrong with the volvo xc 60
54:42
specifically suv yes you talked about the wagon you'd like it but these are out there you could
54:47
find a deal this is the place to go for volvo while i'm here though i can't ignore the bmw x3
54:54
this is going to do all the things the volvo is doing uh i think it's a contest who does better
54:59
seats volvo or bmw it's funny that you're suggesting both of those yeah it might be come down to
55:04
personal body type you need to try to see if you can get in even if you can't drive the cars i'm
55:08
talking about the seats i'm talking about getting to some modern volvo seats some modern bmw seats
55:14
which ones work better for you this is the equinox competitor from bmw
55:20
obviously new at a higher price point significantly higher kind of damning with fame pray i'm talking
55:24
that's not a compliment i'm talking size it's the equinox of anything no that's all bad no but
55:29
find one get a deal on it get one a year or two old i think this would be great for you now do you
55:34
want to throw a bunch of miles at a bmw i mean the same thing questions i guess about a volvo
55:38
any of these but i think this would be great we're talking highway miles good stereo great seats
55:44
x3 i have one more a little more wild card because i went away from suv it doesn't have a hatch
55:50
but you're wanting something i guess i'll call it fun as a plus wouldn't it be cool if it was also
55:57
fun okay that's kind of in that category but what you really need is really good seats able to saw
56:03
miles yeah really great stereo yeah yeah you've got bad winners so front wheel drive at least but
56:10
maybe all wheel drive decent sized trunk my wild card is my favorite the tlx type s the big
56:20
accurate our problem with this is it's not big enough in the back seats but that doesn't matter
56:25
for you it's got a big trunk i said the last time we reviewed this i want to take space away from
56:31
the trunk to give it back to the back seats but for zendrick the trunks the bonus yeah the trunk
56:37
is big it's a sedan not a hatch but the trunk is big i bet you fit this case i don't know what this
56:41
case is i don't know what kind of assassin you are but i bet it would fit the fifth throwing stars
56:45
and grenades and there like what's in there there's something going on there he's a traveling
56:48
salesman quote unquote anyway sure that's what these have great seats yeah and a superb stereo
56:56
and if the road turns fun this is a phenomenal sport sedan but still amazing for sawing away
57:04
just drive cross country in a straight line tlx type s fine perfectly happy but if the road
57:09
turns interesting you just keep going i love my car these get overlooked and part of the music
57:14
overlooked is i think there's a lot of other things that do sedan better but sports sedan
57:22
this is up there if you're not worried about back seat space you're just you just you want to get
57:27
i'm going to saw miles be comfortable hey the stereo is cool there's a lot of stuff in the trunk
57:30
that's zendrick's situation tlx type x type s my friend i think this does it i like the other two
57:37
they're good suvs but this is the dynamics you're hoping for and the things you need i hope that works
57:46
reddit is back for a historically hideous season it's our 100th ugly house this place is mayhem
57:54
that is impressive and if these walls could talk do you cry a lot i do they'd have a lot to say
58:02
what in god's name is this pit don't get too close you know if you see the show i'm scaredy
58:08
hat ugliest house in america season premiere wednesday at eight on hg tv car debate number two
58:15
comes to us from jeff f who is waiting to get less upside down in the current car that he drives
58:21
that's the wrong calculation uh-oh waiting so i'm less upside down i just i just want to hurt less
58:27
it's really i'm just i'm hurting i want to hurt less yeah which is a 2020 Porsche tycon turbo s
58:35
as his daily he got it in august 2023 and he loves it i can see why okay it's been a fantastic car
58:44
that's good to know but he's upside down and waiting to get less upside down before he gets
58:49
out of it and into a new daily jeff is an enthusiast a huge enthusiast he's had a 2001 bmw m5 so the
58:56
vaunted e39 okay and a 2016 m5 he's itching so bad to get into a new car because it's been a while
59:03
and he wants something with an engine again his top picks are a 2018 to 2020 f90 bmw m5
59:13
and a 2017 and newer panamera turbo okay back to panamera yep however the 2014 to 2016 outie rs7
59:22
the 2013 Bentley continental gt whoa astin martin rapide okay maserati grand tarismo sport are all
59:30
in the running but the m5 and the panamera are his number one and number two boy do i have
59:36
suggestions for you yeah i do too jeff get ready to be sold a car
59:43
good you sound more like a bmw kind of a guy and so i am going to start off my recommendations
59:49
with the brand new 2025 and newer bmw m5 touring with 717 horsepower it is a ph ev
59:59
it has a zero to 60 of three three and a half seconds and bmw has been surprised by the amount
00:04
of uptake these sales success that this has been it's another m5 yeah so i suppose that's a
00:11
strike against it i just i want to drive this thing i can't wait yeah we've got it on our list
00:15
it's on our shortlist this year we're going to get in it soon yeah i'm really excited because
00:17
i want to feel what suv weight combined with bmw driving goodness in a sedan is like
00:26
bmw decided physics don't matter and they threw out all their scales i have no idea yeah it could be
00:30
like weight doesn't matter anymore physics are irrelevant or we can oh you know there's
00:35
shortcomings or whatever i don't know but this as a daily i mean everybody would swoon oh you
00:42
got the new m5 touring oh you're driving to lunch right so there's a lot of that and i went shopping
00:47
and i found you one these started 121 thousand dollars but the problem is none of them are that
00:52
price because you're gonna option them out and so lotus of dalas which i discovered has a really
00:57
incredible inventory because there's probably a lot of wealthy individuals in dalas who go through
01:01
cars yes am i wrong oh there are a lot of turnover i mean frankly dalas is not the place to drive a
01:07
lotus but okay i you know you have money in their phenomenal cars so i get it it's just the only
01:12
only explain it only curves are your overpasses that's the only curves you're getting that explains
01:17
it because lotus of dalas has an incredible inventory of non-lotus cars that are practically new
01:22
and desirable juicy yes yeah i want those cars and here it is a brand new 2025 m5 touring
01:30
in that marina bay blue and it is 141 thousand dollars but look at this thing i mean how do you
01:37
not just instantly want this the front end corrects me a little bit but anyway we'll see when we
01:41
go yeah yeah that keeps me from wanting him instantly but moving on i suppose i mean it's
01:45
not as bad as the full-on beaver teeth that went way it's not as bad that's what was just stated
01:52
not as bad move on yes sorry but what i'm actually going to suggest for you is uh now less of a wild
01:59
card as i'm talking my way there jeff a 2024 and newer cadillac ct-5 blackwing manual or automatic
02:07
with a 6.2 liter lt-4 supercharged v8 making 668 horsepower and 659 pound feet of torque
02:15
marshal goldman in cleveland ohio has a 2024 with 7500 miles for 107 900 dollars and i am
02:23
extrapolating your budget because you did not offer us a budget but by virtue you know when you
02:27
suggest a Bentley as part of your or an aston martin rep here i'm just going to extrapolate
02:30
okay 100 grand plus is what we're looking at yep so here we go the 2025 and 2026 models have an
02:37
entirely updated instrument panel check this out they're now at a 33 inch led touchscreen all the
02:44
way whereas the prior model years they do look already a little bit dated the 2024s and older so
02:50
again manual or automatic gigantic engine the stance of this thing and the so right the best news of all
02:57
is it gets terrible gas mileage but wait there's more or in this case less less gas mileage yes
03:04
they claim 13 mpg for this bad boy yes but you know what that's what we want it's quite efficient
03:11
next to the trx in your garage well that's true car you take the trx when you really want to burn
03:16
gas in the end the ct-5 when you want to burn less gas and take the fam i mean zindrick you have no
03:20
idea how badly i wanted to recommend this for you and that's funny you know it's very funny you'd
03:25
be paying for you know a lot of car and then but you'd be like oh a thousand miles a week at a ct-5
03:30
black wig while he pretty much just buys stock in whatever company's gonna buy gas from exactly
03:34
right yeah for sure but jeff this is your car because i know your european car and all your
03:40
suggestions are euro cars we have not driven the ct-5 black wing yet we're looking forward to doing
03:46
so but if the ct-4 v black wing which we have driven is any indication yeah as a taste to what
03:52
this car and what we have heard about how good this car is and the fact that the ct-5 is going to
03:58
continue apparently but they're sort of like on their last legs like this recipe will never be
04:03
had again i want you to have an open mind just put it any gm or cadillac or american car biases
04:10
aside right now and go at least drive one that's good dance of these things it's so menacing it's
04:17
so mean-looking so cool and it's such a different choice because i read all of your your choices here
04:25
it's going through everything and it just felt like churn
04:29
interesting okay just felt like well i gotta try that bw in that instant when you know that
04:32
mercedes and that hot new thing and why just i just gotta try them all and we're just going
04:36
through cars and they're all fine and good but nothing really like have to be here a while i
04:40
really want this car and i finally yeah i think that's what might happen with the cadillac
04:45
and put all your well i'm driving a cadillac and just put all of the cliches and all of the past
04:51
just put it all aside and go drive one of these things because we see them at track days the
04:56
cadillac vclub is quite proud we're very glad to have them as part of hooked on driving they come
05:01
to a lot of hooked on driving events they show up in mass all the vclub owners are just astounded
05:07
by their cars and they're quite capable for track use as big and heavy as these are you're right
05:13
they're designed for track use how much more fun will you have on the road the sound i mean you
05:18
something with an engine 6.2 liter supercharged v8 has a sound this is an engine gm does know
05:24
how to build engines yes they do yeah they know how to do dynamics they know dynamics that's the
05:28
reality i love it that's good that's good stuff blackwing i love it all right so jeff i'm going
05:35
to run through the cars you've listed and i'm going to give you pros and cons and i'm going to
05:39
land on a wild card i'm quite proud of first off let me start with where you are right now you have
05:44
a ticon turbo s from 2020 now look these up this msrp on this car was north of 200 000 dollars
05:54
were they that much they were more than 200 grand depending upon how crazy you got with the checkbox
05:58
is that means you could get well north of 200 000 when you bought it based on what how fast these
06:04
are dropping it probably cost you somewhere around 100 grand it was probably 50 off when you bought
06:10
it or close and right now that 2020 is worth 80 i mean on one hand looking up on not only on the
06:20
other end if you've got 80 000 dollars you're on the tempest right now you'd get a ticon turbo s
06:24
this is a blindingly fast car with also let me put this out there surprisingly small back seats
06:31
so what i'm hearing from jeff is you have a four-door car you don't need four doors four
06:35
seats but you have a four-door car also evidenced by some of the other things on your list but
06:39
i wanted to put us in price perspective here you want to be less upside down but everything on
06:44
your list is going to depreciate like a stone it's just going to fall right out of the back of the
06:48
world anyway so ticon turbo s roughly 100 100 grand to play with you've said new m5 or newer m5
06:56
but haven't we done the m5 jeff we've owned the m5 many times only and i and i think this new m5
07:02
i'm looking forward to driving it bmw has figured out how to make dynamics exist and be wonderful
07:08
and weight doesn't matter they figured it out i don't know how they've done it but they've just
07:12
thrown out all their scales and gone we've got this solved so i'm sure this drives well but this
07:17
is going to drive big after your ticon true really big and you've done m5 so no m5 that brings us the
07:24
panamera i think you would love this i think this would also feel big compared to your ticon
07:29
it actually unless you get the big turbo s might feel slow because the ticon is electric power now
07:36
the e-hybrid version of the turbo would help you here this is crazy i mean does of course it feels
07:41
low i'm in crazy town right now but i actually love the dynamics of the panamera very much
07:46
i think if it's this or m5 it's this panamera is the better choice now i also feel like there may
07:52
be times though when it feels familiar enough to the ticon you wish you were still in the ticon
07:59
now these are actually depreciating better than the ticons because ticons are just whistling
08:06
they're dropping so fast these are hanging on to value better okay so if you're worried about
08:12
hurting less this is your play okay so that's the thing there so panamera the audi rs7 is
08:18
very cool except for the fact that the panamera exists these are awesome and aren't these dropping
08:23
like stones they are dropping like so there's deals on these like crazy but i the and i like
08:28
the seven of the outies very much from a to s to rs7 the the sevens of outies are great
08:35
except for the fact the panamera exists that's its real problem because the panamera i think
08:41
looks better drives better so there you go so that's that's a tough one for me to say yeah
08:46
the aston martin repeat this is a fascinating choice for you to bring up v12 four door four
08:52
seats four very small back seats by the way but that is clearly isn't a problem i think you're
08:57
gonna love the engine and not the rest of the car i think the rest of the car is gonna feel big
09:04
and old old which is my also my concern with the bentley which is a serious curveball 2013
09:10
bentley you're buying a 12 to 13 year old car and i think you're going to feel like
09:17
shouldn't this be better and and these look these bitley continental gts are overlooked a lot on
09:23
the used market there's a lot of car available right now for a used bentley continental gt and i
09:29
think in general they're a fantastic place to be but this is big it's heavy and you're talking about
09:35
a 12 year old car i think those are the things are going to disappoint you as you're going to wish it
09:41
was more modern yeah yeah but this is the price you had to go to to get to this which brings me
09:47
all the way around to my wild card i'm thinking depreciation is something he isn't scared of
09:54
he just wants to hurt a little less okay we need to get the new maserati grand tarismo
10:04
the modena the modena is a hundred grand you can find modenas right now for 80 now that is the
10:10
lesser powerful one this trafeo the good one that you want this is all-wheel drive 500 horsepower
10:17
you can find them right now jeff for 150 grand are they really are they really the list price
10:23
was 250 270 150 grand now that means look these are probably going to depreciate not i don't think
10:30
they're going to depreciate as bad as the tycon but they're going to be able to see it from there
10:33
okay they're still going to depreciate bad this intrigues me but these this lives rent free in
10:40
my brain this car because i don't need a car like this at all but talking about a four-door car
10:49
that's all-wheel drive imagine this as the car in the back of garage you can use no matter what the
10:55
weather is i drove this down some of the best roads in california at serious speed and couldn't
11:02
believe how casual it was still enjoyable but just casual it was just no big deal powerful agile
11:12
great breaks i came around a corner and there was like the guy like trimming trimming the
11:17
shrubbery unannounced around the corner chances with me coming down from good vibes at speed
11:23
talking going fast came around a corner here was a tractor like tractor oh got on the binders i mean
11:30
it was it was scary but got on the binders and it was just like down okay and then trundle
11:34
around him and then we were gone again and i and i don't wish that moment on anybody i don't but
11:38
this has got great breaks great handling they look good people will think you spent a quarter
11:43
million dollars you won't have even spent half that and it's so sexy they're so the proportions
11:50
are so beautiful styling there's a lot of space in the market you're shopping in and they're all
11:56
wheel drive exactly i think this is the play you're going to get a great sounding engine an actual
12:01
engine a brand you haven't had before a new experience this is why it's my wild card because
12:08
i think it's a little more than you want to spend and i think it's my other issue my issue here is
12:12
i really think it's going to depreciate more than you'd like it to because you got a depreciation
12:16
but i do think it's going to depreciate better than a tycon todd has recommended a maserati
12:21
everybody i have noted i have on today's there is whatever day this is there it is uh-huh that
12:26
happened noting that maserati got recommended not by you just say you wore the shirt i wore the
12:32
i did the recommendation which actually surprised me we do not share i didn't know that was coming
12:36
that's fantastic so you've got a shopping list one heck of a driving homework list jeff i'm so
12:46
excited i'm kind of jealous that you get to go drive all these windows grand therese mozer 40 grand
12:53
you and i are going to be figuring out what series we can do to just randomly buy one yes
12:58
and how bad and how bad will they be i don't know at a hundred grand that is a steal i mean
13:06
it all it's such a weird thing to say a hundred i mean for that hundred thousand dollars is a lot
13:10
of money it's a lot of money but that's for that car it's a steal we were a lot of car i was shocked
13:14
by this car how i agree fantastic the feedback was and how well it drove but then we were like yeah
13:21
this is not a 205 or 215 thousand dollar cars not at all not at all but i think it is by far the best
13:27
car maserati has sold in a while and because of what it is the list price is over 200 grand
13:34
and none of them are selling for that and use they're already down again 100 to 150 and the bottom
13:39
of the moderners is like 80 already because not even a year old and those aren't slow no not at all
13:45
not at all it's like 450 horsepower something right which is still yeah fine you'll be all right yeah
13:51
80 grand oh my gosh you don't need one and yet you do i understand i'm with you wow jeff thank you
13:57
for writing zindrick thank you for writing maybe zindrick maserati gt that's a terrible idea but then
14:06
his gm loving father it's just like talking to him about the maintenance on his maserati
14:12
could you imagine could you imagine that dinner conversation yeah i mean talk about causing your
14:17
here's the plumb and value can can zindrick buy the maserati and then take it to the gm dealer
14:22
where his dad works for service just to have the whole world just kind of blow up on itself
14:27
that's just hey guys can you work on this for me anyway thank you both for writing right to us
14:32
everydaydriver tv at gmail.com topic tuesday's car conclusions and car debates you guys are doing
14:38
great on car conclusions unfortunately we will not get to car conclusions today we're just going to
14:42
jump right into social media questions thank you guys for all the questions and comments
14:46
that you've added to both instagram and facebook we really appreciate it but yeah we've got a ton
14:50
there's been a lot of buying of cars and you guys are doing great so i keep it up i encourage you
14:54
please keep sending all like i said there's a call to action for your car conclusions your car
14:59
debates and especially topic tuesday's it's great stuff yeah keep it coming uh where are you at on
15:03
on questions dive right well absek i i want to talk to you real quick and say you're asking about
15:08
are we coming back to the bay area anytime soon did you hear the announcement yes you actually
15:14
joined us in 2017 2017 we did one of our very first ever adventures and our demeanor was really
15:20
like will anyone come and then it was more cars that we could fit anywhere we tried to park which
15:24
is awesome yeah so we're going to limit this to probably about 20 cars or so it's going to be
15:28
great driving again that is going to be the middle of may of this year registration is
15:32
going to come online pretty soon i'm very excited about that it's going to be a couple of days of
15:37
driving in the carmel monoray area and then there's a two-day laguna seca track day on the back
15:42
so you can do the adventure with us then have the track day that is coming so i hope you notice
15:46
that because we are coming back that was first thing i wanted to mention that was 2017 was
15:50
last year in that area for an adventure i'm really excited to be back wow on instagram travel.eating
15:55
asks how best to keep your nice car clean and protected if you don't have a garage a carport
16:01
or any sort of roof over it and you don't like or trust car covers see car covers is my go to
16:08
answer here and you're going to have to keep it washed you're going to have to get the monthly
16:12
subscription to your local car wash hopefully it's not the scratchy brushy kind but the spray only
16:17
but travel.eating this is david on instagram i think you might not be aware of car cover
16:26
technique and that matters it sounds anal and crazy but it does matter you don't just slide
16:32
the car cover off and wad it up and bunch it in the trunk there is a technique that keeps it nice
16:36
and keeps the outside on the outside and the inside clean and dry and that is when the car
16:41
covers on the car you roll up both ends to the middle so you're making uh i guess a burrito
16:48
or a chimichanga okay start the front and rear and they he's about food so keep going yeah you
16:53
roll that's right that's a good point travel.eating yeah so you roll everything to the middle you
16:57
you know flop it over and you want to do sides is that a front back no no no no no okay all right
17:02
roll to the front back and so it's draped over the car side to side front and back at the middle
17:07
of the car and then you flop the sides over onto the top and then once more so it's on the roof
17:12
and then that is clean and dry and you stick it in the trunk then when you're ready to go and
17:17
reverse the car cover reverse so you flop the sides down and roll the ends over the backs
17:22
i like it so yes think about food and that way it keeps again car covers are big and messy and
17:27
they're tough to deal with but not if you've got the technique down and that is so crucial
17:31
to keeping the car cover nice and the paint nice so it's not that thin layer of dust not
17:37
constantly scratching the inside know that about car covers important and that changes the game and
17:43
that way i think you'll be happy but technique is so important. The Bruce B says how far in
17:49
advance do manufacturers put press trips on our calendar and are there any trips we're looking
17:53
forward to the most this year Bruce i'm going to spear off of your question in just a second but
17:58
the thing is manufacturers press trips you just never know you know that that car is coming
18:04
you know there's going to be a trip but then they just the email pops up some some manufacturers
18:11
are like save the date like way ahead of time but most of the time it's just like bing in box
18:16
and it's only a few weeks away i'm always surprised by that now Paul and i don't get invited to a lot
18:21
of manufacturer press trips we don't do that and and partially we've created that for ourselves
18:26
because we really want to have time with the car we want to shoot it our way ideally get a comparison
18:30
going these are not things that those manufactured press trips are set up for so we don't do very
18:35
many we're always truly we're always surprised when we're invited we're like oh look at that
18:41
and so we we never here's the thing we never plan our calendar year around manufacturer
18:46
press trips we just plan our year and and we've missed out on various ones over the years because
18:49
we had a big trip planned and then theirs pops up and we go oh we can't go because we're wherever
18:55
that's happened many many times so we can't plan for that we have all the trips this year Bruce
19:00
that we've already talked about plus a couple others we haven't brought up yet we've got some
19:03
good filming trips going on i cannot wait to share some of the big stuff we have coming this year
19:07
we need you guys watching truly we need you watching because that's going to benefit us
19:12
not only an audience but also in uh sponsors so i'm just going to put it out there right now
19:17
if you want to support the show and the biggest stuff we're doing the best thing to do is patreon.com
19:21
we would greatly love your support there you can link there right from our website that is the best
19:25
way to support us but uh i think if we do what we want a couple of our biggest things ever going
19:31
to come out of 2026 we'll see that's the intention over on facebook linus yates watched the bear
19:37
tooth piece last night he said real diversity of cars and everyone a good car his question for us
19:41
is how do you handle how do we handle that big of a group without having incidents linus there's
19:47
always incidents we've experienced them on almost all of our trips there's incidents things can happen
19:52
from you name it and we want everybody to be aware of it we have a driver's meeting before
19:58
we set out each day and we cover all of that and we talk about here's the potential here's what to
20:04
look for but the biggest thing is the mindset for every one of those drivers because it's not just
20:10
all of us driving happily along as individual drivers like we usually do it's a collective we
20:16
are now a group we are now moving together and drive in such a way that it makes it easy to drive
20:22
together we're friends here we're helping each other do passing and calling out on radios if we
20:28
need to get around something hey something ahead is in the road we're informing people behind us
20:32
we are now thinking collectively as a group moving through time rather than just hey we're driving
20:38
along well there's going to be people cutting off people coming in here hey i want to get around that
20:42
hey as traffic clear can you look ahead for me we're constantly talking to each other reporting
20:46
and that helps the entire group actually move hey the turnoff is a quarter mile somebody will hang
20:51
back and you'll see the turn signal or the rear of a car oh that's my turnoff right there you know
20:57
cars get separated so there's the pack of three or a pack of five somebody will wait at that turnout
21:01
because it's hidden maybe that turnoff or that road is yeah you know we don't want people to
21:07
miss it so we're always thinking about you know everybody's together we're all this one big group
21:12
and thinking and driving in such a way that it can minimize any incidents yeah not saying it doesn't
21:17
happen but we've had mechanical issues we've had other issues we definitely have stuff happen
21:22
but it's thank you thankfully it's been minimal when we've had things happen and it is the the
21:27
exception not the rule and you're right it comes down to that collective thinking that's a very big
21:30
point bradley j says there are rumors of a c8 grand sport i've heard these rumors too what
21:38
does chevy need to do to ensure it's a successful execute execution of the grand sport trim
21:43
gave this some thought because in the c7 specifically and and also in the c6 but the c7 specifically
21:50
it is kind of the one you want the grand sport was all said and done the grand sport was the one
21:55
you wanted it was a good trim in the c6 too but in the c7 i think it is the trim to buy so how do
22:02
they make it matter we've heard a couple other rumors one of the other rumors we've heard and
22:07
you may have seen photos is gm completely redesigning the center console and the possibility of a
22:13
manual transmission okay the grand sport will work if these are all rumors i've heard there is a
22:23
slightly different engine configuration than they offer everywhere else because they have the the
22:28
base engine they have the crazy zero six engine they have that with turbos for the for the zr1
22:34
they have the the all-wheel drive e-ray so what engine variant is in the grand sport that will
22:41
be something to differentiate it but i think if they have an engine variant especially if it's
22:45
naturally aspirated like a variant of the original naturally aspirated engine would be really cool
22:51
even if it's detuned like what about a detuned version of the z06 motor still has that scream
22:56
but might be a little bit less high strong i mean you'd think they just put the stingray
22:59
engine that naturally aspirated stingray engine maybe which is also really good who knows or maybe
23:04
that with more power and then manual transmission it's got to have a unique engine and manual i
23:09
think and the other thing is i think the grand sport might be the trim to get a manual because
23:14
if you're buying the grand sport you've looked past all-wheel drive in the e-ray
23:20
track car on the z06 or world beater on the zr1 you just want a vet you can use
23:29
you're not chasing tents so why not have a manual in that one since everybody's been crying for
23:36
the manual since the beginning if they can figure out a manual in this car that's where it goes is
23:40
grand sport i don't know if that's possible but i've seen look i've seen the spy photos you probably
23:45
have to chevy's working on a manual for the c8 maybe i think it's probably more development about
23:50
the c9 personally and they keep talking about while they're doing this engine variant who knows
23:55
but different engine manual transmission that's a grand sport i think i'd get behind i love the
24:00
magnetic ride yeah it's a big part of the for vets yes identity yes but i want corvette to take
24:07
about 400 pounds out of a grand sport and to do that they'd have to go to a traditional suspension
24:12
so maybe they could tune it in such a way so it doesn't have magnet ride so you're losing out on
24:18
that goodness maybe but you said it's not they're not we're not going after track use yeah but it
24:22
is let's make one suspension and i'd almost err on the side of less weight than continue with
24:27
magnet ride if that can if we can take like 350 300 pounds out of it i don't know that's hard
24:33
that's hard with that car but i do see where you're at okay i'll go real fast for our last
24:37
question kirk mayer has said we've talked about portion toyota collaborating for a new mr2 and
24:41
boxter yes we've also talked about toyota and collaborating with gm for a new fiero yes mr2
24:48
let's do that who could honda work with to create an s2000 and sister car i thought let's keep it
24:53
japanese maybe mazda but you remember honda nissan we're gonna honda was gonna buy nissan or something
25:00
was going to happen and nissan needs a cool new sports car desperately something light
25:04
something cool they could share manufacturing nissan nissan has manufacturing access manufacturing
25:10
capability you just give me a brainwave and that is kind of like okay supra was the hard top z4
25:16
bmw sold the convertible and toyota sold the hard top supra what if honda and nissan get together
25:24
the hard top is the new 240 oh and the convertible is the new s 3000 only available at honda that's
25:31
it you could even differentiate it further and say the honda comes manual and the 240 comes auto
25:39
that's really interesting because then it would be lighter smaller and below
25:43
hopefully the z car it'd be in the 40 000 price range and not the 50 to 60 both companies could
25:49
benefit because honda could say hey the s2000's back nissan's like finally we have good fun
25:53
sports car product again exactly smaller lighter than the z and then also it helped keep the s2000
25:59
price s 3000 whatever it's going to be competitive with the miata and not up with the supra i like that
26:07
well i think we've solved that tune in next time when we solve world peace right with these are the
26:14
two guys these are the two guys you want at the front line of that conversation all right everybody
26:18
we're gonna get together what we'll do we'll just take everybody on a drive here's your cars here's
26:23
your radio yes at lunch we're going to solve the relationships we're right now we're going to work
26:27
together we're going to do passing we're going to do bare tooth pass exactly pizza for lunch it's
26:31
going to be awesome y'all come could be yeah it's going to be perfectly great yeah thank you for
26:35
watching thank you for listening pass the podcast on to somebody you know would love it benefit
26:38
keep writing to us all those great emails topic tuesday's car conclusions car debates and we're
26:43
looking forward to 2026 we're off and running we've got a huge year ahead of us we're thankful that
26:49
you're with us keep watching keep listening and more to come until next time cheers everyone
