In terms of you and I, in terms of you and I doing deals on cars, we've had a 100% success rate.

And the D Max is again, I neglected to book it in for service. It's only been it's it's

approaching this year. I think it's slightly gone every

year, but only 11,000 cases and versus the 15 they recommend.

So yeah, you know, I should get it in.

It's just being lazy about it. Very, very good.

Edward Bunting. Our updates Well, the big news I

think is that the Honda Civic 2001 hatch has gone to a new home. I've had that car since January,

which he's a long time in the world of when you're meant to be dealing in cars, not just driving the cars or storing the cars. But yeah, it it ended up going

to a Rowan who's been on the podcast and went to his cousins daughter and he said oh's got this, this would be perfect for her. And he came around and said

yeah, great, I love it done so of course the road would be ran out three days before he came round.

I had to go get another one, which is just more hassle than else. But yeah, we made it work.

So I'm down to the Accord Euro at the moment, which I put in for Roddy that a new front discs were a little, you know, what, what, what, what under the pedal.

Unfortunately they could machine them.

They didn't have to replace them.

They said other than that, wiper blades and just two rear tyres.

I'll get some tyres on the weekend and she's good.

So yeah, that's that one thing. Here's a little tidbit.

Accord, you know, plastic mirror caps, they get chippy and scratched and these ones are just a bit peely and I was going to get them repainted but apparently, you know, most of them you can just sort of pop them off or you undo a couple of screws and the caps pop off and no drama.

And I should have clued on when my panel guy said, well, if you take the caps off or paint them for free.

And I was like, well, pretty good offer.

But then you investigate and taking caps off a euro, I don't know if you've tried that on your old one.

Metal needed to, but it's quite involved.

It's door trim off and you know, screws and bolts.

Like there's quite a lot to get those mirror caps off him seemingly harder than most other Japanese cars.

So I'm in two minds whether I just leave the damn things and sell it as is, or whether I stuff around with it and pull the caps off. Just tape it up and then get

them to paint on the car. I mean, they, they couldn't

theory. Yeah, in in theory they could,

you know. Yes, that's probably your

easiest option. That's the good thing is that

the the underneath mirror is black and the paint on it is black. So it's not that unsightly.

On a white car of silver car, you'd really know.

I just kind of a notice when you get closer and maybe I'll leave it. What else I've been doing.

I drove them down to the peninsula.

That's driving very well at the moment.

Not that it doesn't, but you know, I just feel it's feeling quite good. My mum got back in it.

I she came out when I was in the driveway and cause she used to drive her when she was 18. And so I you know, she said all

the me, you know something said and I said, well, why don't we take when you take for a burn mum, you know if your youth she goes yeah, OK, so. She will.

She jumped in and I jumped in and then we went for a Fang around some streets and she she said, well, haven't driven a manual in years and but you know, I came straight back.

You don't forget how to drive men.

So she can't. She's so familiar with too,

yeah. Exactly.

So she was enjoying that and she said I drove that to Warner Ball years ago and I said, yeah, I think he did, you know.

So it's, you know, it's had its fair share of Hwy Miles.

Well, a little bit. And then I came back and the

Scamp David Prince, which on a cold night is always fun singing along in the Scamp. So that's come back to town to

have a nice clean and a little tweak to the Carvey.

The cold running is not as nice as we would like, but our car be expert in the Honda Club tells me there's two jets as the cold jet and the hot jet or whatever. And he thinks the cold ones

probably jammed up or gummed up or whatever.

And it it would have never been off the car never been apart.

So I dare say with a good clean out and put back together, it's it's probably will be a lot better.

The other thing, Mr Rob Zadi, is, I think now what triggered this. I've always liked chimneys, but

in the last week I have gone on a very deep dive.

I'm looking. For him, you've gone Jimmy mad.

I'm reading Rd tests and I think it was because I, I thought, oh, how much are they now? You know, and I got online and

had A and you sold yours not that long ago, but I got online and had to look at and there's a shit load of chimneys out there.

And I think it's people like Rob that bought it, went uh, yeah, Nah or everyone who wants one's got one sort of thing.

They're still pricey. And so consequently, anyone

who's wanting to get one, like we're having a baby or we're doing highway now and this doesn't suit us, whatever.

And they, they're just sitting, you know, they're all in the 30s and they're all just sitting there.

And I think these things have to get cheaper.

Someone's gonna get desperate now when they're in the 30s, OK, it's a bit rich, you know, But when they're in the 20s or they get down to 21 or 18 or something like that, OK, now I'm interested. So I'm reading all the road

tests. I've gone deep diving.

I'm like, what colour would I get?

There's that site, Oz Gym near you, probably went there, Rob, where you can pull the stock of all the, all the stuff you can put on them. It's amazing.

Everyone's different with its accessories.

And I'm just like, I'm really liking this.

I mean, I always liked it wasn't, I didn't.

But I like it more when it's getting more attainable maybe.

I think the cheapest one out of interest in the country was 27 grand. It had done about 65 K and it

was in South Australia I think. And then there's, you know, up

into the 40s for super kitted out ones and whatever, but the majority are sort of 32 to 37, you know, in that bracket, which I mean, there's one there in yellow 3000K S on it.

Go wait 11 months. It's a brand new car, you know,

and that's sitting there at 3636 seven or something.

So you don't have to wait for that.

Like it's right there on a platter, you know, full new car, warranty, all that stuff. So stocks, I, I think they've

got stocks now, haven't they? Yes, I think so.

Maybe not of the Ford or Jimmy, the newer one, but of the previous one, yes. Anyway, I'll be I've I've been

obsessing a bit over that, but I haven't driven one.

I need I need to drive one. What?

A few people cancelled their two orders and are waiting for their 4 doors. OK, that makes.

Sense yeah, influx of the two door.

If you had little kids or something, totally, totally get it. Yeah, you can do everything and

anything to them, but don't touch them because the fuel economy just dives as soon as you put bigger wheels on it roof. Rack.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Now I and I don't need a roof

rack or anything. What I was more interested in

was there's internal shelf, shelf you can get up high to make use of that boot space. That's kind of cool.

Eternal side windows. Yeah.

All sorts of things for it it's. Fantastic.

There was even a little storage thing that that slots on top of the Speedo cluster, the twin binnacles, perfect to sit your phone in with your NAV going and, you know, put your keys in and stuff. There's a little one that goes

around the gear stick, a nice little cup holder slash storage combo. Robbie, not like he goes.

Yeah, we've got all of these. A lot of a few of them have bull

bars which look they look The AB bar looks very good but I don't know that you need it but it it looks cool.

But I'd I'd when they replaced the grill too.

And they've got a grill that says Suzuki.

Rahe, I actually prefer the original 1 to that one that says Suzuki but I have seen that. That's a retro thing because

originally. I know, I know.

I looked at it and went, actually, it's sort of like the look of the normal girl. Anyway, it's fun going down this

little, you know, excursion on all.

The tools. You can do.

Say two things to that One, you're talking about customising your car, which, shock and horror, never.

Happened. I just accept rising not

monopoly. It's easier accessories.

You, you. You were talking Turbo on the

phone the other day, Edward. Well, I, I watched a test, yes,

that guy in the UK late break show with, what's his name, Johnny Sutton. Yeah.

Him, yeah, he went and drove one from a company called Twisted and Twisted do Defenders. They make defenders amazing

modern, do whatever you want to a defender and they actually bought up, I think the guy from Twisted said 240 odd defenders, the last of the run. So they had stock to build these

bespoke machines for people with too much money in the UK.

The other card they've chosen to put their Twisted Magic on is the chimney. And this thing had a full

leather interior, Alcantara roof liner, if they'd turboed the original 1.5 engine, wheels, bars, you know, all that glam

stuff. And this guy, that John guy from

the Late Break show said, me and my wife have had a Jimmy for three years. We love it, blah, blah, blah.

But he went to drive his turbo wondering.

He said, OHS, this is this is what it needed.

You know, this thing is seriously fun now.

And you can buy that kit on this Ojibway side.

It's like 6-7 grand I think, plus fitting.

So it's not cheap. It's a big chunk of the price of

the car to do it, but if that was your thing and you loved it and it just wanted more power, well, and you were going to keep it, well, hey, yeah, it's not insane.

No. Says the car is pretty dangerous

with the stock motor in it. You try putting the power on and

doing a U turn, you'll overshoot the whole U turn oversteer.

It will just. Be yeah, just go straight it

sort of just now actually understand it's not overseas, but you'll understand that March will actually turn like door 180. Scary, scary catalogue.

You got to be real careful. The second thing I want to add

to that was obviously talking about modifying, but two Rob, you, you were like, well, it should be, you know, the one that the the new colour. So the colour was on sale.

You said it was in the 20s. They should be that price from

fat from new. And I think, I think you came to

that conclusion really early in your ownership, Rob, you're like. Well, they might be 28 grand.

That's what they meant to be. You know, if it didn't go

insane, they they would be 28 grand.

So when they get down to that 303132 and they will get into the high twos, you know, with minimal case on it, then you're like ohk, OK, like maybe maybe this is something you'd needs down the track. Hmm, maybe, maybe, maybe, but I

haven't driven 1 so. But then again, I get around in

the Scamp and the Mini and the Moke and I'm like, well, it's got to be better than that. And if I like that, well, I, I

should like it. This should think that Jimmy is

like a Bentley, you know? Really.

It's a Pentagon. And Bentayga and another

interesting thing on that I found out in my deep diving is they stopped selling the normal chimney three door in the UK with passenger seats in the back because it didn't meet some new Reg or whatever. So they had to bring it in as a

commercial vehicle, meaning no rear seats, you know, just flat floor in the back. So the only one you can buy now

is this commercial commercialised chimney rather than the passenger one. So they actually sold very

limited numbers of the passenger one because they couldn't get stocked like everyone else. And they're actually quite a

rare car. The one with the proper rear

seat. Everything in the UK.

Do they make a kit for the the the new commercial one that comes with seats and you just bolt and the seat?

From Honda City. Sure they do, but I didn't see

that. It's like Honda.

Honestly enough, enough crap for me.

That's all I'm doing. Actually, there's a few

companies bringing in the cage Jimmys under the new rags, so and then you can always tell them because they don't have the black wheel arches, don't have the arches they look.

Narrow. Track narrower to the car

regulations and they've got a 660CC engine rather than a 1500 so. If the 1.5 is underpowered, the

660 is. Getting interestingly, I think

that's one of the cars that is not going to be allowed in under the new regulations. Yeah, yeah.

That's a bit weird is. There and they're not I I looked

at them now if they were 21990 and the year of others are all 35. OK, maybe there's an argument

for someone to get, but they're not.

They're All in. All of those K ones with the

smaller motor is still well into the 30s.

And I just think, yeah, you wouldn't do it.

David Prince and I was an. Interstate for the weekend so I

haven't got. Didn't do a lot of power stuff.

I actually was a passenger for the rest of the weekend.

I did go to the Launceston Motor Museum which is actually pretty cool. Little Motor Museum had some

nice bits and pieces and then. That was fun.

But no, it wasn't a hugely car related weekend.

I did pick up today. I've had the responsibility of

selling a car for a friend as part of a deceased estate to actually it's a 78 Chrysler Scorpion.

So it's the first Scorpion that was actually called effectively it's called a Chrysler Sigma Scorpion.

So it's the two litre Astron Engine 4 optional Sigmas or the big block from the Sigmas. I think the early ones also came

in with the Saturn 1.6 as well. But so the two letter

restaurant. This thing is A1 owner car from

you. It's done 77,000 KS and it's a 5

speed manual tight tight is tight, but the keys just turned beautifully clicking the locks a bit like the scamp edge.

You know that that car, the locks on it are still, they're not all loose and floppy. They're.

Just know very. Tight.

It's such an original lovely old car and I thought, look, it has been resprayed. I can see some, see some.

No, it hasn't been resprayed. It's actually Polish in the

rubbers. Like I went around the windows

and with the toothbrush and just all, all, all comes out.

And I realised because he polished it so much that it's actually got residue in the rubbers.

But I drive that, drove that back today and I'm actually showing it tomorrow to two guys that I'm pretty sure that they're in a club. But I met them both at Sakura

Picnic. Actually, I met them at Classic

Japan in December and told them about this car and they said I would love to see it, you know, and then they've, I've kept them up to date because I haven't had access to it for a while.

It's being jammed in a garage with hundreds of other things around it. But I finally liberated it and

it's, it's just, the paint is just beautiful.

It's, it's a really lovely, genuine survivor car.

Drive. I've never driven one before, so

someone else asked me that today and I I said to them I've it's probably I don't think the two letter Astron was the most the smoothest or most refined 2 litre engine in the world, even with its balance shafts and it's there's some other catch cry in the. In the brochure.

Brochure trying to remember and it's a bit more in the.

Series must have been all the all the the champagne bottles being broken and. Yes, yeah, Well that was the

sedan anyway. Yeah, I'm allowed a nice, nice,

nice correlation and it's a little Willy in the steering.

It's funny because the vast, vast majority of my cars are front will drive this is rear wheel drive obviously and instantly can tell the difference.

Got a lovely gearbox. I mean the gearbox is beautiful

in it and and lovely and notchy and just really tight and yeah bit bit bully in the front end. You certainly had the sensation

that that Caribbean pushed rather than pulled along the road. So, but never having driven

another one, I presume it it drives fine but.

Yeah, it's not a Honda yes well, so is it because they're they're all fully imported, aren't they the the yeah, yeah, yeah.

And can you tell, I mean, I know if you worked on many like Aussie, Aussie made signs or anything, but how do they how do they feel comparison if? You look beautifully,

beautifully screwed together. Is not a rattle in it.

I mean, it's partly because it's so low mileage.

It's got nice, it's got some Yokohama Dr tyres on it which aren't that old. He replaced all of them even on

the even on the brand new alloy that I don't think it's ever been on the car in the boot, but he created a new new type, put on that as well. It's got the maddest service

history with all his little notes and intonations about how that morning's cold start went and you know how to get up to temperature. And I'm talking like pages and

pages and pages. It sounds to me like your Uncle

Ed with the Terrago. Yes, every every item replaced

or repaired. Was a noted yes, yes, and I've

got receipts and also there were three bags in the back of it with everything from new centre caps for the alloy wheels that it doesn't actually need, is it? There's a couple of brand new

badges for it that he must have sourced it sometime.

There's dozens of brand new old stock parts that he's obviously bought in case he needs them, so they're all in bags in the boots so. It's one thing to have a low

mileage car, but normally what happens with a a retirement car like that is it gets bashed into things.

And even though it's low mileage, there's this rectification that has to happen for the likes of us who buy them. And you've got to put tyres and

you've got to redo the bumpers because it's backed into every corner. And you know, the bones of the

car are good, but they need quite a bit to bring them back.

And this things often been let go at large intervals and whatever. But that car, you know, it

really had been kept up. Amazing.

And that in itself, even for a low mileage car, that is rare.

It's gotta be the best one in the country, like surely.

I I would say without doubt, I can't imagine another one that has been maintained for as long, as meticulously as this has been maintained. Yeah.

Well, yeah, I'm pretty sure they'll they'll be a full not.

To buy that car, if that was. I mean, if it was a Honda or the

other car that got is a Honda, that's how I got to know these people. And that's an 85 Accord with

103,000 K so. That was the daily driver.

That must be, must have been, but it's interesting his wife never driven the Scorpion because it didn't have power steering. So it was, you know, too heavy

for her to drive, He thought so. He's own.

He's the only one, I think that's probably ever driven it other than mechanics. One driver.

Yeah. Yeah.

Alright, So what is that gonna be worth like that would be such a hard kind of put a price tag on because.

Well, it is. It is.

Yeah, then you gotta look at scorpions.

Like scorpions are, yes, they're kind of cool niche Japanese collectible. They're they're not nothing, but

they're not. You know that's right.

They're not in the realms of a Commodore in the same condition or you know. Or even a like a, I don't know,

260Z or a yeah, yeah, you know, or a sleeker or something like that, you know. They never had that following in

the same way, like they were still a bit daggy for a year.

I just gotta find that daggy person that, yeah.

Exactly right, but if it was a Renault 16 I'd be owning no I.

Know that's the thing if it was anything else, you know, and, but, and that's the key to a car like this, I think is finding the person for the car, you know, like there's, there's going to be someone and fingers crossed.

I think I've spoken to these two guys a number of Times Now and they're both very keen and you'll probably end up like a lot of the car club that had multiple owners, you know that.

I wouldn't know about that, David.

Like it's, it just seems like that's such a such a rare and unique car. Like there, you know, I don't

think I can't realise I've actually seen a nice.

I mean, occasionally you see the later models, the sort of square or blocky ones. Yeah, and they had the 2.6 in

them. Big block.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. But yeah, it is years and years

and years and years since I've seen it first.

Actually love to see it in person, I think that'd be really cool. Well, Harry.

Yeah, Scooby Doo placed with. You, yeah, not too much other

than just giving the car a clean the blade gotta wash.

What I notice with hash hatchbacks is at the back of it, it collects dirt all the time and you get it on the rear windscreen. It's just always dirt, just

dirt. Even when you just finish

cleaning it and you go for a drive and you realise there's already bits of dirty water marks that have appeared there.

So because that's the life of a hatchback.

Not used to it, but that's. Yeah, welcome to Hatch Life

asking. Yeah, it's pretty annoying,

especially on a white car. Stands out a bit long.

That's annoying really. Bought anything.

Few things that I'm looking at that I'm still just watching and waiting. Just an exhaust that seemed

Japan just been watching kind of think it's gonna sell anytime soon. So I'm in no rush, which is good

so. You can you can put it in the

back of the inmate. Sneaking in the back and I if

it's not, should be gone by then.

Hopefully when I head up to Japan.

The licence gone to its new home in Geelong.

On the way I was coming back from Geelong to pick up the laser and I saw the most Immaculate Sr laser, a red one.

I see them everywhere now. Everywhere.

They're free, lovely girls are in the car while they're driving heading towards Melbourne. But the car was Immaculate.

It was slightly lowered with nice wheels on it, a nice double din radio in. It was unwell done real well.

Anyway that was that. So we picked that up, got the

cars the the E4 30 I think it is that we've got and Harley C36O, sorry, E36 AMG is getting all little touch up done to it where all the paints been peeling on the roof rails and and all the bumper bars are being touched up, the roofs being repainted on the 4:30. So all that's actually happening

now, believe it or not, getting a spray booth set up at the workshop. That's awesome.

You wanna do my accord mirrors? No.

Not yet well. What you what you supposed it

was like taking him off and all done for you for free?

Yeah. Take them off and I'll do them

for free. Yeah, I could do a bodge job,

but if you want something half done.

OK, so the cars are being sprayed by the spray paint who's operating out of the the workshop shop.

So he's doing that for me. He's going to start on the 380

SEC, get that out of the way. So things are starting to

happen. So he's actually been doing work

on the cars. He's high field the the 4:30.

So he's blocked that back as well.

So I'm pretty happy things are happening.

Expertly chance. Even I gotta get the free merks

out of the way and then it'll be the PC-76.

I don't so the signals in car sales.

Went there. What was it like?

Yeah, it was a quite a bit of newer stuff.

So this is through collecting cars.

They had like a worldwide, you know, in every major City car meet sort of thing all in the same day.

And a lot of Porsches, a lot of Mustangs, quite a bit of newer stuff that I went, yeah, it doesn't really excite me.

Some there was in some interesting things, some old Beamers and America, bit of American stuff, but not that many cars. Like when you've been to

highball and you get 3-4 hundred was nothing like that.

Like there might have been 1022, there might have been 100 cars, maybe, you know, it wasn't it wasn't insane, but it's the first one they've done. So.

OK, fair enough. And he was in the middle of

Calder race track. It was freezing cold and bit

rainy. And yeah, just highball to me.

Highballs got more variety, more mixture.

It's closer. Like I was the only mini there.

There was no, no other. There wasn't heaps of old

British stuff or anything like that.

Yeah. So I didn't love it.

I've I've been to better. Rob's been to better.

There's really not much else happening.

What about you, Matthew? Dropped the laser off on

Saturday to get repaired. Laser.

So, so I need to make some competition for Rob's laser.

So I, I said, I said to them, what's it gonna take to do the roof? And then they gave me a, you

know, a reasonable quote to like, it's a bit of a pain because they gotta drop the roof liner to get rid of the to take the roof rails off. If they try to take it from the

top, they'll crack and break. And they're like, they're too,

too kind of hard to get. They're kind of made of

unobtainium, so. Can you take it off quite easily

without pulling the whole entire roof liner off?

I've pulled it out off before so you can't do it.

You can't do it. So he's they're like, oh, you

know, we'll see what we can do. So they're gonna take that off,

gonna paint the roof while it's there.

Um, the guy paid me that paid me cash for the, for the, for the repair. So, so that, that is getting,

getting done. It's gonna go to the recker and

grab a tail light because he's liked me.

If you can grab a tail light cheaper it would be cheaper than what I get it for. And those tail lights are the

same as the normal laser, yeah. Correct.

Yeah, but. Like in the SR2 light.

So I'm going to go to the records probably tomorrow after work and go grab one from the old pick apart, see if they got any there that are good because they're getting are harder to get, especially like the KN ones out there, at least series.

They're slightly different. So a lot of ones that are

wrecked that got the KN ones and and the KQ ones are a little bit more a little bit more difficult to find.

I've been I drove the Fiesta all weekend and, you know, drove the cruise today. Yes, I drove a cruise.

I know that's that's blasphemy, but.

done? Fiesta goes in on Monday for a

service. Typhoon goes in the following

Tuesday for a just to check on that few bushes at Harkon.

happening is once I pick up my scamp, I'm dropping off the MR2 to get the rear main done because that is leaking all over my parents driveway and they are not happy.

So and it got me thinking of like, you know, there were so many cars I thought were super cool when I was a kid.

Kitty dream cars as as I as I, as I would call him.

I'd love to know what your ones were when you were like, you know, 1012, you know, early, early high school years.

And if they if they come to the same male or have they have you or have you completely, you know, shifted, shifted directions to be like, oh, don't leave.

I can't believe I like those. There is the picture of me.

I'll just put it there if you guys can see it too well.

It's an orange type for like a Peach colour.

No, it's a, it's, it's, it's a bad, bad line.

It's actually rapid yellow. Yellow.

Can. But yeah, there's maybe a little

Ford bag, you know, 4 Chevy. Lost 3 little shoe bag.

And my pop, my am I popping hot jumper?

Because that was all the rage. And you long denim shorts.

Long denim shorts. Yep, the so they were.

Perfect early 2000s. Trip and that was that was the

drip in 2004. Maybe that was the drip, that's

what you needed to have. And, and I beg my dad all year

to go see that car because, you know, just coming out.

And, but I, I, it was on, it was on my list of, you know, dream cards as as a, as a kid. And I was thinking, what were

some of my other dream cars as a kid?

And I and I had I had a few that that came up to mind 993 Porsche 9/11 Turbo because I used to play a lot of need for Speed, high stakes that was. Nice.

That was that was that was a cool car 50 because I thought that I had a little matchbox of I thought that was super cool.

And MR2 like what I own now, which is pretty cool.

So like I thought like they were some really cool, cool cars when I thought when I was a kid, like that'd be so cool to own one day. Little do I know about the

little did I know about the BMW would be a nightmare.

And yeah, as a kid. But the rest of them are, you

know, I've been quite, quite, quite, you know, still haven't really changed, to be fair. So I wanted to ask you guys, as

a kid, looking back as you do on your show, Edward Bunting and David Prince, let me take you back to your first year.

You know, as you always say. Is coming.

Early goes coming, but we we we go back to our earliest car kind of crushes. We'll call the car crush

exactly. It's like when you have the 1st,

the 1st crush of of that that person that you know that you're like, well, you know, this is this.

I realised that I can now my my my voice has gotten deeper moments in life. What were those cars for you and

are they still the same today? Like or have you just been like?

I cannot believe I I really like those things.

What was I thinking? I reckon I've owned all of them

except one. The Pagoda.

I know. Yeah, not all of them.

Not a motor show talking about the show, I can tell you two or three that I was into one was your model MR2 nineteen 87.

I remember standing next to that of the motor show.

I walked past it with my dad and I said, oh, look at the new MR2 that's high. The motors in the back, you

know, are there you go 2 setups, tiny, impractical, you know, like he's he's a very practical man when it comes to cars, which was a real frustration for me as a kid who just wanted a son of a spoiler and alloy wheels or, you know, something remotely kind of cool. And I just knew that that would

never happen for us because he was just Mr Practical, still is.

Is is is a pragmatic man your father, isn't he?

Yeah, yeah, yeah. You know, frivolous cars don't

excite him in any way. Having said that, he has had an

S class and and have been a couple of BMW's and then but this is all my doing, you know, this is, this is later on, you know, and, and he really liked that W 220 S class I had.

He nearly bought that off me but just couldn't justify it.

Anyway, so that was one. The other one was in 1991.

I remember the motor show I, my favourite car the whole show was a Honda CRX which was the last of that second Gen CRX, the real sort of wedgy one. It was in that accuri, you know,

marine sort of blue colour, a Haitian green.

It was in that colour. It had the black and white

stripy seats down the middle. And I just went that he's a, I

gravitated towards that small sporty fun stuff.

And another one, this is a more mundane one.

I remember in year seven writing in my journal, which I've still got somewhere and I was like, I always write about cars because as you know, like you got obsessed and, and one of the cars I wanted was an MX5, the 1st Gen MX5, because our year 7 coordinator had one in red brand new 1990, you know, NA MX5.

So I've got that ticked that one and the other one which I've never owned was a Mazda 121 Bubble.

I thought the Bubble 1-2 ones were really cool and I've never owned one of those, which is maybe yeah, composing yet, yet there's probably still. One, I don't think it's

necessary. I don't like this.

Then then they're not good time. They're a great car.

Well. If you've been passed on the

freeway by tracking one of those again, they're not a good time, I think. I come from the world of scamps

and mokes. Allen no, I know.

I feel like you're already taking enough risks.

You can probably avoid that one. Exactly.

So I don't know. There are a couple of motor show

hotties that I remember twirling around going.

I like those Barry and the Porsches, you know, It wasn't.

I could walk passing yards. It's exotic.

But it didn't. It was so unattainable to me

that I didn't sort of resonate with.

It. Yeah, which is still the case.

I don't resonate with super expensive stuff.

It's. Totally the same.

Yeah, I don't know. I just find it like it's it's

irrelevant. My dad was like, oh, you want to

buy a car? You, you know, remember that

motor show you took me to? We went to the Mercedes Benz

section first because he's like Mercedes Benz #1 and I was just like, I was a bit like, I was like, can we just get to the fun stuff now? Like, yeah.

And then. And I just remember him being

that was born in one of the many moments he was disappointed me as as a child. Sorry, which?

Which is which? Which?

I mean to be fair, not much has changed.

It's the same media. It's.

The same he's like, what do you want for it?

Why, Why what 4th and I'm like, oh, but dad, it's it's turbocharged. And anyway, then he then he saw,

you know, my my lacking of, of weird, weird and wonderful things. But yeah, it's funny how like

like a lot of the cars that I've yearned to have I've just been very simple cars. Then you know, like a lot of you

got the guys on on this show, so you so you said the MR2 and the.

2121 bubbles CRX MX5 first Gen I lost it after that.

I lost it after Mercedes W108 that I I did buy one when I was 19. That was my first ever bends and

I still have a real love of that shape.

Yeah, beautiful, Kyle. Um, mugs, of course, minis and

mugs, but tick tick, got that. I actually did send in a couple

of photos on the weekend because I was in Launceston.

There was a Thomas the Tank mockup being driven around the park, and it's actually a thinly veiled abomination of a Moke.

You could quite, quite easily see.

I said to the guy, pretty cool mode.

He said, ohhhhh, yeah, it's, it's it's really good, you know?

Yeah, yeah. Yeah, I get into it.

God damn train. Very cool set of alloy wheels on

it though, I did notice that. You're stickler for a wheel,

David Prince. I am I.

Am what about you, Rob's when you were a kid, you know, And then would you, would you say, oh, what was I thinking?

Or would you be like, yeah, it's done now?

It's a hard one because I didn't really like some a lot of the cars and, he said. And even the light 60s really.

But my parents and the families always had Falcons.

So as a kid where I remember riding in the back of a XP station waggon or XM sedan or or sort of nice seat belt sitting in the middle of salmon, now air conditioning running at you your. Backside as well as me.

You were that kid as well. That's what resonates with me

even though we dare noise to go to motor shows, but all it really stands out. I really I remember the the

Mercedes of W 116 there. You know that 560 SL's and stuff

like that, you know it is. So I thought I would never be

able to afford or never have. And by the time I was 18, I

could actually, we could afford one.

Yeah. So it was good to actually own a

car that I saw at the Motor Show 10 years earlier, you know, even a 5S CF 380, there was no chance in a world that I could ever, ever have one of those. Until now.

Yeah. That's I.

Yeah, they, they were another league and they always impressed, you know, like the the Benzes and like 300 E, 300 CE, those SEC's, the 11, the even the 126 S class.

I just remember going, oh, that is money.

You know, you had that even a second hand one of that that was five years old, six year old, that was still money because they just didn't date in the same way as other cars.

So they because they ran their models for a long time and it's it was still very respectable to be driving one of those even with a few years and caves under its belt.

Look, I got you a quick story. I got pulled up by the police

when I was 18 driving from Sunshine into the city down Footscray Rd, I think O'Donnell Road.

And I got pulled over and the police officer goes, who's car is it? What do you mean?

It's my car. And this car that I was driving

was a A280SE manual right import from Singapore, but sprayed Pearl white or put the AMG wheels on it and I put the AMG front spoiler on it. And so at 88 here I am driving

this W 116. And it was like a car that you

wouldn't know one back in those days, would you know, would be driving a car like that. Writing is old.

But how? How old was that car when you

had it? So that was a 75, maybe 76.

Needs and what year was this when you got pulled over?

8283. And that was a six year old S

class 7 year old. I hate your oldest boy.

Yeah. So I mean, now that's like a

what are we talking 2015 ish explants?

Yeah. And what's the 2015 S class

worth now? Is it 30 grand?

If that, yeah. No, yeah, 25, you know, like

it's not it's not insane money, but it you know, 2015 S class is still a bling car. Yeah, yeah.

But back then was only one generation old.

Is the 116? Yeah.

Yeah, yeah. You see, so was it.

No. Really dated.

Yeah, that's right. And what did you say my car and

then use your right. So yeah, it was an ex's I

remember going to matter shows. Yeah, yeah, the the earlier the

XC Falcons and then going into the Statesman and stuff like that. None of those cars really appeal

to me. I, I just don't know why it

just, you know, and then I've got this thing with my dad, you know, like we got into the 76ers and, and I know he makes that XD's exes, scorpions statemens. And every time, like I said, we

went somewhere. Guess which car will go on in

the P-76? Can I just ask, Rob, did you get

into P-76 after the 116 Mercedes?

Same time, same time? Cause that's quite a comparison.

Like one of the few cars of the year and one of the worst build of the year. So the P-76 was my daily and and

the work was my weekend car. Beautiful.

Wow. And but that wouldn't take the

Merc to Queensland or Alice Springs.

That was in the P-76. Shine would have been real comfy

in the bend. Couldn't do it.

Yeah, bulldozed back Rd. Swash wise, yeah, couldn't do it

for it. 376 doesn't matter. Doesn't matter. 1300 dollars

$1300 car back when I bought the P-76.

Yeah. That only had like 60,000 K on

it when I bought it. We didn't end up with that after

like before you took it off the road.

Or no, probably 200,000. Yeah.

And it was last time. You have a cars in between.

I had probably three or four, like 2 Targa Florio's.

One got smashed, I've got another one.

And then always had that blue P-76.

Then I built an Aspen green 6 cylinder P-76 from a family friend that I bought. I bought off them and their

family owned AP 76 dealership in Hamilton.

So I've got these new old stock parts with it as well.

So I fixed that car up, drove that.

Yeah. So my wife was driving one piece

and it's P-76, I was driving the other.

For a while. Yes, I brought the kids home

from hospital in the P-76. I yeah, it's a lot of memories.

A lot of memories. Percent.

What about you, David? Yeah, it's as it's mutual friend

of ours, Benny Versity has a YouTube channel called the Motorists and he animate ended up testing a Countach and a Testarossa because they were the cars that they had on the walls when they were kids, you know, like and they each tried to convince each other was the best, but that wasn't me.

I think I always loved a bit of an underdog and the first car that I can remember falling in love with and aspiring to own was a Volkswagen Beetle because of the love bug.

Angle back here. And I still did this day, would

live in a fire station tomorrow, given half a chance because I reckon I have all that parking downstairs and Loving Point is upstairs. And the slightly poetry.

And a pole, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Yeah, if you had one of The Beatles like Herbie with the folding Webasto roof, you could, yes, just almost straight in.

I think and as my kids identified, it's probably one of the first cars that kids identify because it looks like keep drawing of a car. So yeah, but I've got into

little cars pretty early. I can remember as a kid going

into there was a Honda dealer actually in the next suburb to where I grew up and I can remember looking at them through the window of the dealership. I can remember when the Civics

came out my I went up, I rode my bike up and got a brochure telling them my mom wanted to buy one and could I get the brochure. She didn't even have a licence,

but still with the brochure. Know that.

He didn't know that. That's right.

That was Rod Murphy from who owned Esquire Motors.

And I've still got his handwriting and these cards stapled to the thing. And I went on to know him in the

trade, you know, like his. Like.

Have that story. Yeah.

Sorry, did you ever tell him that story?

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, that's cool.

Yeah, he was a good guy and and yeah, so that was the because I quite like the four door Civic. I love the three door Civic.

But when the four door came out, I thought, oh, look at that sensible, practical and Anna waggon as well.

I mean, my goodness, I think for everybody.

So yeah, but motor show, I can remember a few significant cars and they're not the ones you mentioned.

I remember the the one and only time my wife came with me.

That motor Shoshi BMW just released the the V12 seven series. That would have been 80. 3288.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. And she looked and she said, why

would you call a car 75 oil? Because it uses that much per

100. It was probably preemptive,

wasn't it? It was like it, like a

prediction. But a couple of years before

that I remember going seeing on the Mazda stand up high.

It would must have been 83 I think because it was the very first 929 hard top in bright yellow with the the sort of semi pop up headlights and very very sweepy style.

It looked like something from out of space.

I mean, that was sort of Mazda's answer to the vortex or sort of thing. What's that about?

I remember that standing out of all the cars in the motor show.

It pretty sad really. I suppose if I can remember

that, not sad. But now I went every year,

probably like you, Rob, I went. I think 72 was the first year

because they had the blue denim edition Renault twelves on display. I couldn't remember.

Oht. Lavender colour.

Yeah, Lavender, Yes, yeah, yeah. But it.

Was what I would give to go back to one of those motor shows.

I'd just go in with a chequebook.

I'd want everything. But yeah, I was always little

little weed cases, although I did I was riding the plastic models too. And I, I when I think now, I

probably still got some of them. In fact, I do have some of them.

Who? I'm kidding, I know.

I've got some of them. One of them was a. 300 CE, so

I've got a white 300CE with burgundy interior that I made.

I've got a first Gen I had to. I was amazed when the Tamia Eric

Seven came out, the series one lovely minty green colour.

So it's a Savannah RX7. I've got that kit built up,

assorted Hondas. I've got a really cool little

Suzuki. I think the kid was called a

Suzuki Samurai, but it's what we had as the Sierra here 80s, I think. Um, yeah.

So I mean, that's probably how I I I do remember 9 to 8 kit 2 that I painted for some reason in mission, like a dark brown.

Suits the 90. Came and they came.

Out and had to be regional, of course.

I mean of course I would have ended the colour that didn't come in back. Come on, I'm not an animal.

But no, I had this model and it was like it was a decent, you know, probably 118th or something like that.

So bigger than normal and quite an involved kid, I remember.

And I've had the brown, but that one's long since gone to God, sadly, the way that one is. But I'm gonna show you my 300 CE

next time you're over, Edward, because it's.

I would like to see that. Yeah.

It's just made me think because I've I've got a huge collection of die cast cars, but not much of those DIY models make.

It's the only two I made as a kid.

One a Volkswagen Combi van Matthew split barn door Combi, which I still have that was green.

And I did a Mini because I wanted to do it like my grandmother one, which I still have.

Number plates cut out a bit. I don't know if we did the

plate, maybe I did. You have to go and dig it out,

but I'll it came in plain white, which is the plastic on the kit.

And so I look at that and I just did the seats red because I wanted it to be the same. They're the only two I have,

combi and a mini. One of the little Airfix models

in the plastic bag with the with the.

It's like a Tamayo one I think. Ohk OK, OK.

Yeah, yeah. The plastic, you know, you put

the wheels on yourself. And I remember it being fiddly

and painstaking as a kid to do that, and I wasn't that happy with the result, you know, Like, I'd gone over the lines a bit here and there. And that's I think why I got

into diecast, because it was all done for me.

Yeah. There you go.

Very good. Well, you, Scotty.

Mines interesting because back when I was fairly young I I liked cars but I was really really into the fighter jets.

Hmm. I think as my uncle was in the

Air Force, so you know, I got to see all the roulettes and jet fighters and everything like that.

So that was really, really cool and I was really hooked on that.

But I still bit of cars because my uncle again also was into cars too and from cars that he's owned he's had a SLR 5000 ohm.

Well, hmm, back in the day. I'm currently doing up a a

Tirana now that he's been working.

On for a while. But to start it off, when I was

young, I one of my first toy cars I've got right here.

Oh see, is that an R129SL? Yeah, and.

Oooh, Roof in the book no. That's actually so cool.

Yeah. The roof comes on and off like

that just from underneath. OK.

There's like one of the first ones I always wanted was like, yeah, you know, so cool. Well, in Immaculate condition,

she's gotta you're very. Welcome.

Too bad. Yeah, it's pretty good for how

old it is. That's where it all kind of

started. And have tonnes of Hot Wheels

cars and I line them up and I think what I always did, I'd set up a racing truck. I had like wooden, wooden blocks

and I'd set up the racing track. And if you remember also back

then with the V8 Supercars, it might have 10.

If you spend a certain amount, you're able to get one of the little, little cars too. So I have one of one of those as

well, and I don't have that with a.

Back then it was the DTM Touring cars, I can't remember which one, but it was a purple one and I'd have them and they'd be racing around the track and the big thing I'd always finish with is there's a big crash, one finishes the race.

There was always a massive crash and I'd use my ambulance car, my fire truck car, all there parked around and fixing up the damage.

Yeah, well, I always wanted one of those might attend.

Yeah, because you could, if you bought enough you they'd give you one right at the. Yeah, the other thing, and I've

always like to my dad can can we can we go there?

He's like, now we're going to Bunnings is cheaper.

And so I was like, I'd never got to go.

Like I know he'd be sitting at Bunnings with little trolley with the little flag like pissed off my arm.

It's always. Tell you, I'll take you to the

paint sampler and you get some of those coloured cards and that will make it up to. You How do they get up here?

We didn't have a Bunnings here to begin with.

It was just might attend so they would go there and I was like, yes, excellent. Dad, Dad, dad.

As I was school one of those, it was the the one that looked like the L, the El, the El El one from back then.

So you know, back in the 90s and that started to move towards I think my first favourite car that I always wanted to actually had a poster of was the HSV GTS coupe on the yellow in the yellow have written it 300 kilowatts.

Like back then I was like, Oh my God, you know, 300 kilowatts and something that came from Australia too.

You. I was just gobsmacked and it was

just, yeah, one of the greatest cars I I'd ever seen.

I was beside a Monaro and trafficked the other day.

It was Immaculate. Got it and it was that.

It was almost disseminate sort of colour.

It was like an orange but a sort of Reddy orange.

I can't remember the name of it but she was a nice colour.

Look great. It's still a good looking thing.

I really like them. I think they, they, they, they,

they nailed that car. Absolutely.

That big time? Yep.

So there was that one that's really started to get me going back into cars a lot more again. And I think what was interesting

is a lot of people were sticking to certain kinds of cars.

You know, it's Holden only, it's for only, no, it's imports only and stuff. But I was just, I was just

dabbling. It of everything.

Yeah, I was like someone, you know, walking down the aisle in Coles, just go have some of that, some of that.

That. They're just dabbling along,

grabbing all these little bits of cars that I liked.

And then I landed on the on the skyline and something, something clicked in my head and it just brought back some memories of my parents when they had one. I was like, I completely forgot

all about it. Like, I didn't even know they

had one. Yeah.

I mean, it was just everything was just coming back to me.

I was like, wait a minute, I had some along the family, one of the relatives, he imported an R33.

I was like, I remember an R33 back in the day when I was really little and brought one of those in.

I was like, holy crap, you know, it's all this stuff.

So coming back, like, you know, I really like the tail lights.

And then it was just all about the forums and I'm on the Skyline forums and I'm reading this and that and just, you know, this is before the games is before Fast and Furious existed and everything. I'm just, you know, this would

be a great car to own and that's, you know, eventually I I got into and I've owned them all the way through.

So I think it's good to be able to have a car that you really enjoy, but is something that is achievable.

You know, you're able to actually get your hands on and not just something that's out there and you know, you can't, it's just unobtainable in prices.

I mean, I guess those skylines are now unobtainable, but you know, for back then you just need that car that you're not too scared to drive, but it's something that you would enjoy.

You don't need to have a massive dream on something.

This is just a basic skyline. How back in the day you could

pick up an R33 manual for like 7 grand and just crash it to pieces if you wanted to. Yeah.

And I thought, yeah, you know, they're not bad as long as I didn't have the wanky body kits and stuff.

I kind of like it said. And now we're just start pouring

in. I remember ones coming in with

all kinds of weird colours, but obviously they repainted them in these silly colours and things. But it just gets you hooked and

you start watching things. But mind you, yeah I'm into the

import scene and stuff but I still love old Aussie muscle cause I lean towards the XY's. Love the shape of those nice

boxy looks. The 80s, big, big cars and stuff

from the 80s, Yeah, I think it's just not being overly, overly picky and sticking to one manufacturer.

You just, you just dabble, you know, you grab bits and pieces from what you like and that kind of broadens your horizons.

And then you're able to chat to so many different people, not observe and learn new things about different cars.

I think that's what I love. Yeah.

Lots of people with a car I've never heard of just saying that's cool, what is it? And they love to talk about it.

And off you go and you get to learn about you're like, oh, that's so cool. That's my love of cars anyway.

I think it's the communication and learning new things.

Yeah, that's a good way of looking at it below.

When you when you were a kid, what, what were your things you like? Well, I'd love a bit of that.

OK, it's always goofy. What do you think about it?

Because some of them aren't as cool as, you know, we made them out to be. I remember when I was very young

in New Zealand, I ended up convincing my parents to get me some kind of hot wheel set, a number of like Hot Wheels cars and other off brand model cars. But I actually got an official

hot wheel set. And it it, it was like a little

track. You'd basically clamp it onto

like a dining table or something and come down to a loop and then do the jump. And that came with a Porsche

box. True belief and this is again

the same time I also had the the PlayStation with Porsche challenge yeah and again the game where you can only choose a Porsche Boxster or a Porsche Boxster or another Porsche Boxster. They let you pick the colour at

least so I guess both of those things kind of made me really love the idea of Porsche Boxster.

I was like, I'm gonna own this car when I'm older, you know, it's gonna be, it's gonna be my car.

And my uncle, who was, you know, again, only about nine years older than me, knew a bit more about cars.

And he was he was talking the whole time.

He was like, all the porch box is so crap.

Like no one likes these cars. Don't even have the car in Gran

Turismo. You know, that's, that's how bad

the car is. Only I believed him.

Turns out there was actually a contractual obligation between EA and Porsche which allowed their games to exclude have exclusivity over Porsche cars. But you know, obviously he

neglected to mention that part because I don't think he knew it either. No, because that's where when he

had roofs in. Yeah, in.

I was like, I'll show you, you know?

And now again, as an adult, I'm like, yeah, look, Porsche boxers, They, you know, a lot of them, especially the early 2000s bottles, They're pretty well priced these days.

You can get into one like a manual for less than 20 grand.

You. Absolutely.

Can with reasonable case but it's just do I necessarily want that? No, I think I'll do it out

personally, but at least at the time I thought it was pretty cool. The other one was the R31

of 2020 and it's still kind of in the family.

And also now got the new STI, which is it's still got, you know, the original DNA. It's a considerably changed,

it's bigger and stuff, but it's still got that like original fuel. And so, you know, that's

probably one of my more like I had that card as a kid and I feel like I definitely did achieve my dream.

fixes we did to that car. But the when mom brought the

mark home for, you know, for a day or to pick us up from school when the when the boss is like, I'll take my car to go to go do the banking and stuff and you know, you can pick your kids up in it. I was like, well, look at us in

the in the, in the, in the Benz. I was like, well, that's a

that's a bit spesh. So that was that was in the 90s.

That was really, I always remember that the 90s, early 2000s, that was that was really, really cool.

And and then he, he also had a Porsche 928, which I which was like a like a 928 SI got like a. Light on.

No, it wasn't brown. It was, it was, it was like a

grey. He still got that car.

Actually I drive past his workshop now and it's just parked there so. He's been through the worst

because that they they, you could not sell them.

Probably 10-15 years ago they were worth nothing, but they've come back up. I think he's still worked thing

because the transmission broke, but and then I think I think mum, mum left that place when the transmission broke and it's quite literally stayed in the same spot since I was just a degrading and just sitting. There.

Maybe so yeah, so the other one seen a lot better days.

But yeah, the MR2 again was seeing one of the kids were like just to see one drop pass. I was just was enamoured by 1

yeah, it's a small, small Japanese stuff and and and interesting, interesting little cars.

I always had a, you know, a knack for and um, yeah, just hit the spot and then they'll look how sick and twisted I've become. But anyway, that's, that's, but

It's it's yeah, like it everywhere.

Rebuilt the motor quite literally two years later, the mechanic was like, he's like, yeah, I'm glad you didn't sell it because now it's a lot worth a lot more money.

And it's just, it's just growing, growing, growing each sheet every year. But it was a lovely example,
