02:23
Next thing I know, I heard a rip.
02:25
My friend tried the splits and jeans, but not a drop was spilled.
02:28
Have a blast with Mountain Dew Baja Cabo Citrus.
02:31
A punch of tropical citrus flavor.
02:36
Welcome back to the Nevo EV News podcast.
02:38
If it's Tuesday, it must be Nevo EV News Day.
02:41
This week's podcast, we were traveling to Spain to test drive the all new and updated Toyota
02:46
2026 BZ, formerly known as the BZ Forex.
02:50
We also interviewed Eric from Toyota in Europe.
02:53
We went from Malaga to Barcelona to go and drive the Jeep Compass all electric.
02:59
And we also interviewed Fabio from Jeep Europe.
03:02
Last week I was driving the Volkswagen e-transporter, specifically the Pan Americana.
03:07
We had announcements from Porsche with their new Cayenne MG S6 coming to Ireland.
03:12
If you're looking for something a little bit bigger than the S5,
03:16
we're going to have no more rotating screens in future BYDs.
03:20
Maka GSE was on last week as well.
03:22
Unfortunately, I couldn't go to it, but I've got all the details.
03:25
We've announcements from Polestar.
03:26
They're going to be working on the five with Google Gemini.
03:31
We have two more leap motor dealers in Ireland and another BYD dealer.
03:36
Kia won the international event of the year with their PV5.
03:39
I'm attending an event on Thursday, the 27th, down in New Market in Cork
03:44
with their brand new X-Peng dealership.
03:46
Going to be down there for an EV educational event.
03:49
And we've got the winners of the Irish Car of the Year 2026
03:54
with the MMAI and in association with Continental Tires.
03:58
For those of you who don't know, my name is Derek Reilly
04:00
and on this podcast we chat about all things electric vehicles.
04:03
Neville is Ireland's only dedicated EV platform
04:05
and we'll be covering where we were this week,
04:07
what we've been driving and what we've been doing between the podcasts.
04:10

04:16
It really helps us out and it doesn't cost you anything.
04:19
So let's get stuck in.
04:21
Last week we put out two podcasts.
04:23
We had a dealership deep dive with Jonathan Mead
04:26
getting a great reaction and we also had a conversation
04:29
with the new Cooperancei at Ireland brand director,
04:32
Marce, Marce, Marce, Marcalino.
04:38
Getting great reaction to those.
04:39
So if you haven't already listened back, please do so
04:42
and you can follow us.
04:43
Hit the bell icon if you're on Spotify.
04:45

04:47
And the new episodes will pop up.
04:50
But as mentioned, if it's Tuesday, it should be EV.
04:52
Neville EV Newsday.
04:54
On Wednesday then we traveled to Malaga
04:58
with Toyota, with Lauren and Aiden from Toyota
05:00
with some other journalists.
05:02
And we were looking at the 2026BZ, or BZ,
05:06
which is the abbreviated new name for the BZ4X.
05:11
Really they've shortened the name,
05:12
but they've extended everything else.
05:14
So more range, more efficiency,
05:16
better and pretty much battery preconditioning,
05:20
all that kind of good stuff.
05:21
But before I get into my impressions
05:23
and the review is already up on the channel
05:25
since the end of last week.
05:26
So, and lots of people interested in it.
05:28
You can click the link in the description of the podcast
05:31
or go straight to the YouTube channel,
05:33
the Neville EV review.
05:35
Let's jump into a interview that we did
05:37
with Eric from Toyota in Europe.
05:40
As new to the podcast,
05:42
we are here sitting inside on Eric's advice.
05:46
We're going to have a new section
05:47
called In the Driver's Seat in the podcast series.
05:49
And I'm here with Eric.
05:51
Can you give me your full name and title, please?
05:53
So my name is Eric Gustafsson.
05:55
Project leader for product communications
05:57
at Toyota Motor Europe.
05:59
It's a long business card.
06:01
Well, we actually don't have business cards
06:02
any longer, so just an email signature.
06:05
I think it's okay then.
06:06
Eric, we're sitting in the new updated,
06:09
refreshed, I'm not sure what the exact terminology is,
06:15
Let's step back first of all
06:17
with regards to its predecessor.
06:20
So launched in 2021 and came to market in 2022.
06:24
I was watching your presentation last night,
06:28
And towards the end, it got very popular.
06:30
Yeah, it's had a bit of a bumpy start,
06:35
but at the end it gained market share and market share.
06:37
And finally we sold more than 150,000 units globally.
06:44
And before the production
06:46
ended of the first generation,
06:49
it was in a third sales position
06:52
on a pan European in its segment.
06:55
I always remember looking at the Nordic sales figures
06:58
and there was a great uptake towards the end again.
07:01
But that's the past.
07:02
We're now in the updated BZ4X,
07:05
BZ in some markets, North America, etc.
07:09
More range, more power, more efficiency.
07:12
A lot of things that people were looking for,
07:15
Toyota has listened and has stepped up to the plate.
07:20
We have our chief engineer,
07:21
Japanese chief engineer as well,
07:23
who explained the updates, general updates,
07:27
and he said that we really listen to customers.
07:30
We studied a lot of European BV drivers
07:34
to understand the needs and the very specific needs,
07:37
especially drivers in the northern Europe,
07:39
Norway, so Denmark, Sweden, part of it has.
07:44
And he went there a couple of times to drive up and north
07:48
in the cold, snowy Norway in the darkest, darkest months
07:51
and to really learn how it is,
07:53
how Norwegian BV drivers using their car.
07:57
And I identified three main areas.
08:01
Of course, the heart of the car BV is charging
08:04
and battery capacity, but also fun to drive
08:07
and then styling the sign.
08:10
So the battery isn't much bigger.
08:12
It's much more about the improvements in chemistry,
08:15
the improvements in efficiency
08:17
in the electric motor and charging speed like you say.
08:20
So it's perfecting an already existing recipe,
08:23
but doing an amazing job of an increase.
08:26
It's a comprehensive update.
08:28
We say that it's a new BV platform,
08:30
even if it's using similar components,
08:33
but more or less everything in the BV platform is new
08:36
or really, really updated.
08:38
He gave a great example
08:39
and you're talking about Norway
08:40
and Norway a big adopter for electric vehicles
08:42
and a huge EV market or BEV market.
08:45
And the original BZ Forex
08:47
had a charging curve of 10 to 80%
08:50
in about 50 or 60 minutes.
08:52
That was 60 minutes and...
08:54
At minus 10 degrees.
08:55
Sorry, that's just terrible.
08:56
At minus 10 degrees.
08:57
Then it's 60 minutes and the old one.
09:00
And then now with the efficiencies,
09:04
but you can precondition now
09:06
and you can do that manually
09:08
via the infotainment screen as well.
09:09
So you can override it and do it yourself.
09:11
And that brings it down to 30 minutes
09:12
and it's a huge difference.
09:13
Yeah, it's a big, big improvement of course
09:16
and it makes longer journeys much easier for sure.
09:20
So we have this preconditioning system
09:22
can be activated manually
09:24
by navigating to a fast charging station
09:26
or then via the multimedia system
09:28
just toggle the activation.
09:31
We've also improved the AC charging speeds
09:33
from 11 kilowatt to 22 kilowatt AC on the top trims.
09:36
And so again where you have that capability
09:38
in Ireland is one of those unique markets
09:40
where a lot of AC 22 kilowatts
09:42
are set up as public charging
09:44
over the last 10 years.
09:45
And so the real benefits
09:47
when you can go to the cinema
09:49
or you can go for dinner
09:50
and come out in your car is full.
09:54
It's a real nice to another lot of brands
09:56
have said, you know, we'll do 22.
09:58
So it's great to see Toyota doing that.
10:00
I think it's also making life easier
10:03
for customers from 10 to 80 percent.
10:06
It takes two hours, 20 minutes,
10:08
more or less with the 22 kilowatt chargers.
10:12
So of course that makes it easier
10:14
to have a fully fully short battery
10:16
more or less cinema movies
10:17
are getting longer and longer.
10:18
So it's definitely fitting
10:19
within that remit looking at.
10:21
So we talk about charging,
10:22
we talk about battery, the efficiencies there.
10:25
We it was an interesting
10:26
conversation over lunch.
10:27
One of the other journalists was asking you about
10:29
the semiconductor and how has that been improved
10:31
and silicon carbide is that all the rage now
10:35
all the kids are talking about it.
10:37
But it is about that efficiency
10:38
and the ability to get power through it faster.
10:42
Yeah, so the silicon carbide technology
10:44
in the in the semiconductors
10:45
is mainly giving higher possibility
10:48
to have a higher power output.
10:50
So the new all will drive system
10:52
has combined system output of 343 horsepower
10:56
and that's that's one of the key
10:58
to that is the silicon carbide semiconductors.
11:00
Now we don't get exciting
11:02
if you're listening to this
11:02
in the Irish market
11:03
we'll be just getting front wheel drive
11:04
at the moment and so all will drive
11:07
potentially and down the line
11:09
in the future and design wise
11:12
you're again perfecting on an existing
11:13
it's not a huge departure
11:15
from where we've come from
11:17
we have the hammerhead design
11:18
at the front we have those wheel arches
11:20
in two tone in the European market
11:22
body colored for those American listeners
11:26
and so exterior it's recognizable
11:28
and it's falling into that
11:30
be family that we saw a kinchiki forum
11:33
in back in February in Brussels
11:36
which I recently had up the channel
11:38
and urban cruiser as well
11:39
so people are starting to see a lot
11:41
more electric Toyota's coming
11:45
we are extending the BV family
11:47
for short and now we soon gonna have
11:50
a model in each segment
11:52
starting from the BSV
11:56
visa for X and then soon to come
11:58
also the visa for X touring
11:59
which is an extended longer version
12:02
really looking forward to that
12:07
where you've gone into the Lexus
12:10
your siblings part spin
12:12
and said we like that screen
12:13
we like this we like that
12:14
and so it's there's a real
12:18
with regards to texture quality
12:22
materials used as well
12:24
thank God the glass black plastic
12:26
is has been minimized
12:27
think that's that's another area
12:29
we really listen to customers
12:32
yeah listen to to to everyone
12:34
media as well of course
12:35
and to made a completely new interior
12:37
so have this horizontal dashboard
12:40
with a large 14 inch screen
12:43
bit of a we call it a digital island
12:45
in the center console
12:46
which we have been lowered
12:47
but also made a bit wider
12:48
to have a bit of more cabin feeling
12:51
but but in the overall a bit more
12:53
spaciousness feeling
12:57
yeah to ease it up a bit
12:58
less glossy piano black surfaces
13:01
dual wireless charging pad here
13:02
looking at us but also usb ports
13:04
for the rear passengers
13:07
thinking about use cases
13:08
laptops tablets power hungry devices
13:12
the day of a 5 watt
13:13
or 10 watt or 15 watt
13:15
is starting to really be
13:16
old news and old technology
13:18
so you really have to understand
13:19
the use cases that the customers
13:20
are going to be in the vehicle for
13:24
we know that people are spending
13:25
a lot of time in the car
13:26
and they are going somewhere
13:28
and they need to charge things
13:29
so so we really want
13:31
to make it as easy as possible
13:35
and and yeah make the life you see
13:37
different variations in different markets
13:39
we have a standard battery
13:40
a long range battery
13:42
we're getting in Ireland
13:44
I think they're keeping it nice and simple
13:46
front wheel drive long range battery
13:47
for those of you listening in the Irish market
13:49
but then we also have the all wheel drive
13:51
that we alluded to earlier on
13:53
towing capacity gone from 750 kgs
13:58
horsepower up to 300 and
14:03
Unfortunately for Ireland
14:07
on the towing capacity
14:08
is only for the all wheel drive
14:10
but again looking at the markets
14:13
looking at the use cases
14:13
and people that go all wheel drive
14:15
they want to tow heavy as well
14:17
and so all of those opportunities are there
14:20
Eric big years are coming up
14:23
Nevo is an electric vehicle
14:27
and Toyota for a while
14:29
was just the BZ for exit
14:30
back in the beginning
14:31
and some plug-in versions
14:32
but now getting more and more serious
14:34
and really looking at the multi fuel pathways
14:38
you're one of the strongest points
14:39
that we found on the website
14:41
and also when we're chatting to people
14:42
and even at our recent show in Dublin
14:44
was your battery warranty
14:45
you're nearly 30 years
14:47
in the putting batteries in vehicles
14:49
but the number is phenomenal
14:51
it's a big number that you're standing behind
14:52
with regards to the number of kilometers
14:54
that you're willing to stand up
14:56
we have a battery care package
14:59
so as long as the car shows up
15:02
at the authorized workshop
15:04
annually for a battery health care inspection
15:07
or battery inspection
15:09
we promise the car will retain
15:11
70% of the battery capacity
15:15
or 1 million kilometers driven
15:17
and you're not hiding that fact
15:18
either also on the driver display
15:21
a display showing the state of health report
15:25
that's for the first time in Toyota
15:28
we offer the driver
15:29
so you can just access the combi meter
15:31
and then see the state of health
15:34
the remaining capacity
15:35
off the battery in the vehicle
15:37
in the other direction
15:39
thank you so much for your time
15:40
we will be coming back to Toyota even more
15:42
we've got the touring coming in 2026
15:45
Urban Cruiser has not been decided yet for Ireland
15:47
at the moment it's a no
15:48
but we have it up on the channel
15:50
if you're interested in seeing more of it
15:53
Anything, any final words on the BZ
15:57
lots of different variations on it
15:59
from you Eric before we sign off
16:01
I think we covered most of it
16:02
it's a nice new comprehensive update
16:06
and just got better
16:08
thank you so much for your time
16:31
Ahorra aún más en tus favoritos

17:08
thanks to Eric for his time
17:09
and thanks to Lauren and Aiden also
17:12
for the invite to go over and have a look around
17:14
and drive of the BZ
17:17
full review up in the channel
17:18
and link is already in the description of the podcast as well
17:20
so if you want to see what my thoughts were
17:22
with regards to driving, space, shape, the whole lot of it
17:26
Toyota are doing something interesting
17:27
and where they're saying
17:29
if you want more range
17:30
you don't need the space
17:31
they have the CHR plus
17:33
again review up in the channel
17:35
and also a previous podcast
17:37
from a couple of weeks ago
17:38
we met the engineers
17:40
but then if you want a bigger car
17:41
it's slightly less range
17:47
something for the BZ
17:48
so really we're probably around the 500
17:53
so bigger car, slightly smaller range
17:55
one at the same price
17:56
as a slightly smaller car
17:58
so C segment and D segment
18:00
so thank you to Toyota
18:03
next I took a flight
18:05
I tried to get a train
18:06
but it wasn't going to work out
18:07
so I had to take a flight from Malaga
18:08
and the south of Spain
18:12
and we were with Jeep
18:14
I met up with Kieran from Jeep Ireland
18:19
bit of grub straight to bed
18:20
and up the next morning
18:21
to go down to the port
18:23
to have a look at the all new Jeep Compass
18:25
and a little sneak peek of the Jeep Recon
18:31
I will jump into the interview with Fabio first
18:35
and give you my impressions after that then
18:38
we're here on the port in Barcelona
18:40
and with Fabio from Jeep
18:42
Fabio can you give me your full name and title please
18:45
Fabio Catone, head of Jeep
18:47
in the largest Europe
18:48
I like this in large Europe
18:49
I need to research more what this means
18:51
but this is not what this podcast is about
18:54
we are here at the launch of Jeep Compass
18:56
and we will get to that
18:57
towards the end of the podcast
18:58
but at the start of your presentation
19:01
Fabio you talked about Jeep in total
19:03
can you give us an overview
19:04
of where you stand in the market at the moment
19:07
Jeep is a brand like no others
19:11
there is only one is one of our claims
19:14
because for us Jeep is a DSV brand
19:22
with a distinctive positioning
19:27
freedom, adventure, authenticity and passion
19:29
are our values since 1941
19:34
and the Jeep is one of the few brands
19:36
to have those values all around the globe
19:39
with a unique product formula
19:42
in which this end to function
19:44
robustness and durability
19:46
are at the service of the capability
19:49
we want to be the best in class
19:51
in capability in every segment
19:53
where capability means
19:55
to have a common obstacle
19:58
as well in the everyday life
20:03
well rehearsed after five days of giving the presentation
20:08
I know a lot of people will say
20:10
when they think of SUV
20:11
they use the word Jeep
20:13
and so it's become its own
20:16
whatever is like Hoover
20:18
or other brand names
20:21
have become synonymous within the industry
20:23
market share is very important
20:25
it's been tough market
20:28
but Jeep is holding its own
20:29
and increasing in certain markets
20:32
the scenario is becoming
20:39
but Jeep as a remain stable
20:45
on the passenger car market share
20:48
even if we are changing
20:52
because we introduced in 2023
20:55
now we are introducing the new compass
21:00
Vagonia SNR Econ Europe
21:03
so even if we are changing
21:06
our market share was stable
21:09
for sure we want to increase next year
21:11
you give some examples of Poland
21:13
with some really double digit market share
21:15
but you left the best to last
21:17
with United Kingdom
21:18
coming in with over
21:26
the sales more than doubled
21:29
and now there is another 41%
21:35
and so I with the word to stop
21:37
because now we are launching the new compass
21:39
that has to be the second pillar
21:46
it's been a huge success across Europe
21:49
but living to the ideals of Jeep
21:53
off-road ruggedness
21:54
yes two wheel drive
21:55
but still I remember
21:56
when I was at the launch
21:57
in the airport car park
21:58
there was the terrain exercise
22:01
which was really interesting
22:03
going into the C segment
22:05
and we will come back to compass
22:07
again I keep on teasing compass
22:08
but I want to just focus on D segment
22:12
so you've gone two different
22:16
for the more adventures
22:24
one moment to the product formula
22:27
those are not only words
22:29
so the geometry of the vehicle
22:32
the 360 degree protection
22:39
that we have in every car
22:45
and every day capable
22:48
it's a it's like that for a ranger
22:50
it's like that for the new compass
22:53
and now with the recon
22:59
let's say some different choices
23:04
as a still a good mix
23:06
of pure thermal engines
23:08
and so for the avengers
23:14
the pure thermal engines
23:17
does not exist anymore
23:23
while in the this segment
23:30
we think that it will go to 50%
23:33
and so for this reason
23:35
we will introduce in Europe
23:37
recon and wagoner s
23:42
I had a look at recon
23:43
straight from the LA auto show
23:45
here on the side of the port
23:46
and alessandro your colleague
23:48
talked me through a beautiful looking car
23:50
this was the US trim
23:51
so we won't get this exact model
23:54
but it will be very close to this
23:56
with some changes around the bumpers
23:59
and the wheel sizes
24:00
and the height etc.
24:02
I think it looks beautiful
24:03
we had the opportunity
24:06
let's say in the same day
24:07
over the official reveal
24:13
we will work on the european specs
24:17
so the main event is the compass
24:21
I had it in the green
24:22
that you won't miss in a car park
24:25
I was driving along the port here
24:26
and I saw a Lamborghini
24:28
so it's in good company
24:33
first generation launched in 2006
24:35
second generation in 2016
24:37
2.5 million global sales
24:40
so an important vehicle
24:42
and now going to be
24:44
in multi fuel as well
24:47
let's say the four pillars
24:48
of this new generations
24:53
because we did improve the geometry
24:55
and the improved the technical features
24:59
the second is more space
25:01
this was a specific request
25:04
of other our clients
25:05
but also of our rejectos
25:08
because for this third generation
25:10
we did a lot of clinics
25:12
to understand how to design
25:16
so we have more space
25:19
15 millimeters longer
25:21
than the actual generations
25:23
so we have more space
25:27
a trunk that now is
25:32
more than the previous generation
25:34
and also more space
25:37
because we have a storage of
25:40
while the previous generation
25:43
then we have a lot of technology
25:49
a standard of Arnold range
25:59
and then smart phone
26:05
we have as you said
26:06
the freedom of choice
26:07
in terms of engines
26:16
that we call a standard range
26:18
500 kilometers of autonomy
26:20
another that is long range
26:25
and the standing 4x4
26:27
you are sharing this platform
26:28
with your Stellantis cousins
26:38
gives you extra leg room
26:39
and as well we talked about it
26:45
and that extra capacity
26:51
sprinkled some Jeep
26:52
magic in that as well
26:53
so with the 4xE model
26:55
you have a specific electric motor
26:57
that's only going to be
26:58
on the Jeep versions
27:00
yes compared to the
27:01
dawn of the platform
27:23
that is able to give
27:35
a slope of 20 degrees
27:37
without no traction
27:42
real Jeep ingenuity
27:43
that 14 to 1 ratio reduction
27:46
and been able to utilize that
27:48
and the fact that it's unique to Jeep as well
27:50
we won't see this on Peugeot
27:51
we won't see this on Citroen
27:53
it's going to be something that's
28:00
attack angles and departure angles
28:02
and pitch at 16 degrees in the middle
28:04
so you've really thought about this
28:08
because it has that instantaneous torque
28:10
people think it will go 4x4 anyway
28:14
you've made sure it does it
28:18
let's say confuse the off-road
28:23
it's only a part of the equation of the vehicle
28:28
needs to have the full off-road equation
28:32
with the protection
28:38
for the others, etc.
28:40
that is in the upper part of the bumper
28:43
and is much more protected
28:45
this is a part that costs a lot
28:48
and we are protecting it
28:51
because we want this Jeep
28:54
not only for our cities
28:56
but also for the off-roads
29:00
I like the fact and we saw it on Jeep Avenger
29:02
we've got that 360 degree
29:06
so you've got that protective shield
29:12
rim that goes around
29:14
if somebody scratches it
29:17
but also it doesn't look
29:19
it can stay scratched for a bit longer
29:21
so you're really thinking about the practicality
29:23
because these vehicles are going to be
29:25
off-road, on-road, urban environments
29:30
for the residual value of the vehicles
29:33
let's say in the future you want to resell
29:37
the car appears much better
29:42
that are with the injected
29:47
so when you scratch
29:48
you don't see the scratch
29:50
it's really really smart thinking
29:52
and not saying that drivers are getting
29:55
but the environments may be getting more aggressive
29:58
exciting times ahead for Jeep
30:00
what are you looking forward to now
30:01
that Compass has launched
30:03
what's next on the road map
30:04
that you can talk about
30:08
Compass, Vagoni Res
30:14
they will come more or less in
30:16
one year, one and a half year time
30:19
and then we will see in the future
30:21
but for sure that we will not change
30:25
and the way the product formula
30:34
it's really really good
30:36
I'm delighted to see it here
30:38
and to see what it's going to be like
30:39
the fact that you can
30:40
remove some of the glass
30:44
like it's phenomenal
30:45
I come from the west of Ireland
30:47
so I'm not sure how often this will happen
30:48
with the weather that we get there
30:49
but on a day like today
30:56
I saw the wagon here last year
30:58
so I'm looking forward to seeing
30:59
what Jeep will have there
31:01
Fabio, thank you so much for your time
31:26
El diario es fácil con ahorros y recompensas
31:31
Los ahorros pueden variar por estado
31:33
aplican resecciones de combustible
31:34
Ve los detalles en el sitio
31:37
but this traffic is awful
31:39
Um, can we stop at a bathroom?
31:42
And keep having stomach issues after eating
31:44
like diarrhea, gas and bloating
31:46
abdominal pain and sometimes oily stools
31:49
Those stomach issues may actually be a pancreas issue
31:52
called Xocrine pancreatic insufficiency
31:55
Creon pancrelaipase
31:57
may help manage EPI
31:59
Creon is a prescription medicine used to treat people
32:01
who can't digest food normally
32:02
because their pancreas doesn't make enough enzymes
32:05
Creon may increase your chance of fibrosin
32:06
colonopathy or rare bowel disorder
32:08
Tell your doctor if you have a history of intestinal blockage
32:10
or scarring or thickening of your bowel wall
32:11
if you are allergic to pork
32:12
or if you have gout, kidney problems
32:14
or worsening of painful swollen joints
32:15
Call your doctor if you have any unusual
32:17
or severe gastrointestinal symptoms
32:18
or allergic reactions
32:19
Take Creon as directed by your doctor
32:20
and always with food
32:21
Do not chew capsule assist
32:22
may cause mouth irritation
32:23
Other side effects may include
32:24
blood sugar changes, gases
32:25
and a sore throat and cough
32:26
These are not all the side effects of Creon
32:29
or visit creoninfo.com to learn more
32:31
That's C-R-E-O-N-INFO.com
32:33
I'm asking my doctor about EPI
32:35
and if Creon could help
32:39
Thanks to Kieran in Jeep Ireland
32:41
as well as Fabio for their time for that interview
32:44
The Jeep Compass review is up on the channel
32:47
I'm recording this at the weekend
32:48
before Tuesday, Newsday
32:50
because I'm traveling with BMW
32:52
to the I-X3 International Drive
32:55
So I'll be on that drive
32:56
as this is going out on Tuesday morning
32:58
But the Jeep Compass review came out
33:00
late Sunday night, early Monday morning
33:02
when the embargo lifted
33:04
And yeah, I like it
33:06
It's on that STLA medium platform
33:08
up against some of its siblings
33:10
in regards to the Grandland
33:13
and the 5008 from Peugeot
33:15
as well as then Leap Motor C10
33:17
So it is plenty competition
33:19
inside its own stable
33:20
Never mind even looking out at
33:22
your Volkswagen Group, Å koda's
33:23
and Kia, Hyundai, etc.
33:27
It's in tough competition
33:28
but I like the look of it
33:30
I think it's enough Jeep for people
33:32
and the fact that you
33:32
if you want that 4x4
33:34
the 4XE designation
33:38
and that 3,100 Nm of torque
33:41
with that 14 to 1 reducer
33:45
What they're saying
33:46
looking forward to test driving it
33:48
and seeing what it's actually like
33:49
but I'm looking forward to spending
33:51
a bit more time with the Compass as well
33:52
I didn't get a lot of time on this press trip
33:55
I think it's a great size
33:58
and has the looks as well
34:00
So even if the highlighter green
34:01
isn't to your standard
34:04
there's some nice blues
34:05
and browns in there as well
34:06
So that was the home late on Friday night
34:11
and trying to enjoy a bit of the weekend
34:12
as I'm recording a podcast here
34:14
Next up during the week
34:16
when I was in Ireland
34:17
the Volkswagen E-Transporter
34:19
specifically the Panamericana one
34:21
which is their top trim
34:22
comes in two different trims
34:25
comes in a single battery size
34:29
giving you a WLTP of 320 km
34:32
and it also has two electric motors option
34:35
a 136 PS and a 218er
34:42
over 130 and then over 200 PS
34:45
and so that video will be coming to the channel
34:47
over a couple of days
34:48
So a big electric van
34:52
playlist on that channel
34:53
So if you're interested in more electric fans
34:55
and if you're listening to this podcast
34:57
because you are a fleet manager
34:59
and you're interested in finding out more
35:01
there's definitely some plenty content
35:02
up there on the channel
35:04
and we'll be coming back to electric fans
35:06
towards the end of this podcast
35:09
Moving from the Jeep
35:11
to the Porsche Cayenne
35:13
was announced during the week
35:14
we've been teased as the Goobit
35:15
over the last 6, 12, 18 months
35:18
and so now it's finally arrived
35:23
Porsche really giving that
35:24
focus on what it is to be a Porsche
35:29
and so this will be the new
35:33
but you will still be to get the previous version
35:36
and so it comes in two variants
35:38
the electric and the turbo electric
35:39
even though there isn't a turbo on it
35:41
it has up to 850 kW
35:49
and a 400 kW charging power
35:53
that's at 400 volts folks
35:54
that's 400 kW charging power
35:57
they aren't in the country
35:58
there's the 320 I think
36:00
maybe 350 is what we have
36:01
at the moment without honesty
36:04
but I don't think there's anywhere giving
36:08
up to 642 km of range
36:11
this is the most powerful production Porsche of all time
36:14
so yes there will be the Porsche fans out there
36:17
the badge wearing brigade
36:19
but if you're looking for the most powerful
36:21
and I had a bit of this when we went to the supercar
36:23
we kind of done drum
36:24
and I was there with that Maserati
36:29
and the Gran Turismo
36:33
it doesn't have the emotion of the noise
36:36
but if you're looking for straight line power
36:38
usually the electric is the one that's always going to win
36:48
from Cayenne since 2002
36:51
so it's 23 years old
36:52
nearly 24 years old
36:54
and so really it was the saving of Porsche
36:56
that SUV side of the house
36:59
because I was bought the market once
37:03
36% of its sports cars
37:06
sold globally or electric
37:09
and so looking forward to seeing a bit more of this Cayenne
37:14
and as we mentioned 0 to 102.5 seconds 0 to 200
37:18
which not too many brands
37:19
we'll be talking about in 7.4 seconds
37:22
so this goes faster 0 to 200
37:24
and then some brands will do in 0 to 100
37:30
looks are being divisive
37:32
for sure the rear end
37:33
front is very much Porsche
37:35
but the rear end is definitely something different
37:38
but yeah we got to we got to see it during the week
37:41
and there'll be a link to the Porsche Newsroom
37:44
on the description in the podcast
37:46
something a bit more affordable
37:50
and this one is falling in between
37:52
kind of two stools S5, C second SUV
37:55
this kind of straddle in between C and D
38:00
but a nice step up in size
38:02
77 kilowatt hour battery
38:04
comes in a rear wheel drive
38:06
but also comes in a
38:12
in the United Kingdom market
38:14
we have been confirmed that it has come to Ireland
38:16
but we just don't have any prices or anything like that yet
38:20
very similar styling to the S6
38:22
head up display this time
38:34
slightly bumped up as the way to describe it
38:36
so yeah if you felt that the S5 was a bit too small for you
38:38
this one might be for you
38:40
WLTP around about that 525-30 km
38:50
two trims fast charging
38:56
is about 38 minutes
39:00
so that charging curve
39:04
that's still decent at 150 kilowatts
39:08
looking forward to seeing this
39:10
and interesting that it has that all wheel drive version
39:16
and all the malcons and the ADAS
39:20
but you can have MG pilot custom
39:22
so you can remove some of that ADAS stuff if you want so
39:28
just arrived a small but late for the Nevo Electric Vehicle Show
39:36
has announced that it will be
39:38
removing the rotating screens
39:44
it was a talking point every time
39:46
that BYD launched another car
39:48
but the utilization of it number one
39:50
they could see that it wasn't being as utilized as much
39:52
I liked it in native satan ad mode
39:56
they could see that people weren't really
39:58
and when you were phone mirroring Apple
40:00
CarPlayer Android Auto
40:06
and so at the said right we're going to lock it down
40:08
so I think the new BYD Auto 2
40:12
and so moving forward and that will just bring in a bit more
40:16
the ecosystems of phone mirroring etc
40:20
spinning with screens
40:22
we're not going to be getting them moving forward
40:24
are the reports that we're seeing and a bit more integration
40:26
also BYD looking to double
40:28
its footprint in Europe next year
40:30
going from 500 dealerships
40:32
to a thousand dealerships
40:34
so big stuff coming from BYD
40:36
one of the press trips I couldn't make last week
40:42
and unfortunately it was
40:44
clashed with the Toyota event
40:46
which I'd already agreed to
40:50
born from the rally
40:52
perfected for the road is what they're actually saying
40:54
so it has 281 horsepower
41:02
torque 0-105.9 seconds
41:06
the steering has been motorsport tuned
41:08
it has a torsion limited slip diff
41:14
special 20 inch wheels
41:18
lime green, highlighter yellow
41:20
front calipers and it has
41:22
a slightly different front and rear grill enhancements
41:30
it's motorsport DNA
41:32
so great to see it saw it on the
41:36
I was good and I couldn't see it
41:38
but Justin Delaney was there
41:40
and I was following him and all the bits and pieces
41:42
that he was putting out so yeah
41:46
I've always liked the Maka and I'm looking forward to
41:48
seeing what this GSE brings to the table
41:50
Polestar announcing
41:52
that they're going to be working closer
41:54
even closer with Google
41:56
and it is with regards to their
41:58
integration of the Polestar 5
42:02
so that's the advanced AI voice assistant
42:04
so it's not just about opening the windows
42:06
or navigating to the nearest supermarket
42:08
it's very much having conversations
42:10
and they've got use cases where
42:14
let's talk where they can
42:16
enable, you can brainstorm
42:18
follow up questions
42:20
asked about new learning opportunities
42:22
and so moving forward
42:24
after the Polestar 5 launch
42:34
will have Google Gemini replacing the
42:40
podcast description if you'd like to find out more
42:42
Leap motor, rock and roll
42:44
and there are two more dealerships announced
42:46
we had Bright Motor Group announced on the 10th of November
42:48
so that's the Dublin area
42:50
starting to be covered and then
42:52
moving slightly out into Kildare
42:56
who we worked with at some of our regional events
42:58
are also going to be taking on
43:00
as a Leap Motor dealer
43:02
or have been announced as a Leap Motor dealer
43:04
so that geographical coverage
43:06
is getting stronger
43:08
so congrats to the Leap Motors team
43:10
and congrats to the two new dealer appointments
43:12
speaking of more dealer appointments
43:14
we have BYD announcing Finlay
43:20
I think the first BYD dealer in Kildare as well
43:22
so congrats to Finlay
43:24
and in the Kildare region as well
43:30
I'd say it with the announcement of their
43:32
Van of the Year on the PV5
43:34
which we've had on the channel
43:36
we also had the show in passenger version
43:38
and the cargo version is the one that's after winning
43:42
so link in the description to my video
43:44
very capable ground up EV
43:46
dedicated commercial vehicle
43:48
and built on that EGMPS platform
43:50
so congrats to the Kia team
43:52
and the Van of the Year title
43:54
which will give great confidence
44:00
with regards to a new product to market
44:02
and first time bringing commercial vehicles
44:04
to my knowledge into the European market
44:06
maybe years and years ago
44:08
but this is something totally new for Kia
44:12
I am going to be a new market
44:14
a new market in Cork
44:16
on this Thursday night, the 27th
44:18
Thursday evening with new market motors
44:20
and they are going to be launching
44:24
and they're having an EV weekend
44:26
but as part of that
44:28
there's going to be an EV education
44:30
event that I'm going to be hosting
44:32
so thanks to new market
44:34
and if you want to follow them on socials
44:36
you'll see some of the RSVP links
44:38
so if you're in that new market area in Cork
44:40
or geographically in that area
44:42
you can go to an evening of a launch
44:44
of the new X-Ping dealership
44:46
starting off obviously with the G6
44:50
I had a look at the P9
44:56
however you pronounce it
44:58
playlist on the YouTube channel
45:00
let's get stronger and stronger
45:02
so if you're interested in seeing what
45:04
where the future of that brand is going
45:06
we're going to be chatting about that on the night
45:08
and I've got some media interviews leading up to the event as well
45:10
me on Monday morning when I land in Spain
45:12
doing some interviews there
45:14
ahead of that event on Thursday
45:16
last but by no means least
45:20
the Motoring Media Association of Ireland
45:22
a proud member of Car of the Year awards
45:24
happened a couple of weeks ago
45:26
and I put out a couple of interview podcasts
45:28
since but it is time to cover
45:30
the runners and riders and winners
45:32
of the 2026 Car of the Year
45:34
in association with Continental Tires
45:36
and in the Irish Small
45:38
Car of the Year category
45:40
the Hyundai Insta was the winner there
45:42
amazing car, great to see it
45:44
you can see all the different colours
45:46
that are happening and some of the dealers around the country
45:48
lots of stock available
45:50
and so if you're interested in some real quality
45:54
small car, Insta is hard to beat
45:56
Compact Car of the Year
46:00
won recent European Car of the Year
46:06
we had the Roland Garrus edition
46:08
that was on the channel there recently
46:10
and also at the show a couple of weeks ago
46:12
so if you're interested in looking for something a little bit special
46:14
in the Renault 5 side of the house
46:16
look at that Roland Garrus edition
46:18
so that was the Irish Compact Car of the Year
46:20
the Irish Medium Car
46:22
slash crossover of the year went to the Kia EV3
46:24
another phenomenal car
46:26
and again all of these have
46:28
reviews up on the channel so
46:30
make sure you have subscribed
46:32
and if you're looking for more information on this
46:34
Large Car SUV of the Year
46:36
went to the BYDC Line 7
46:40
and the Irish 7 Seater of the Year
46:42
went to the Hyundai IONIQ 9
46:44
so that was 2 for Hyundai
46:46
the Irish Premium Car of the Year
46:48
went to another 7 Seater
46:50
which was the Volvo EX90
46:52
review coming to the channel soon
46:56
Performance Car of the Year
46:58
went to the MG Cyberstar
47:00
again a couple of videos up on the channel
47:02
and great to see that car getting
47:04
the recognition it deserves
47:06
and fair play to MG for putting out
47:08
something as stylish as that
47:10
saw one on the road recently it was so good looking
47:12
it was like grey metallic grey
47:14
with some red highlights
47:16
and then what happens is all of those winners
47:18
get put into a ballot paper
47:24
I'm not a juror of the Irish Car of the Year
47:26
I'm a member but I don't judge
47:28
because some of the categories have
47:30
combustion engines in them
47:34
compare one versus the other
47:36
because I haven't driven the combustion
47:40
and the overall winner then was
47:44
Irish Car of the Year 2026
47:46
so that's back to back scenic last year
47:48
and then Renault 5 this year
47:50
they've got the Renault 4
47:52
coming into the portfolio
47:54
and so it'll be interesting
47:56
they'll hardly make it 3 in a row
48:00
so congratulations to the Renault team
48:02
and Renault Ireland
48:04
and Renault 5 is well deserved
48:06
with the Irish Car of the Year
48:08
so it's been a long episode folks
48:10
over 40 minutes hopefully you've enjoyed it
48:12
we've got back straight into a thickened tin
48:14
with regards to the show and I was done
48:16
and we will be coming out soon
48:18
with dates for next year as well as our regional
48:20
test drive events so
48:22
make sure you're following Nebo on socials
48:24
or if you haven't already signed up to the newsletter
48:26
if you haven't already left a comment
48:28
or a rating on Apple Podcast
48:30
or Spotify for this show
48:32
it really helps the algorithm
48:34
it's all about the interaction
48:36
and it is going to be able to
48:38
disseminate it and show it up
48:40
on other people's feeds
48:42
but I look forward to chatting to you next week
48:48
I think it's under embargo for a little while
48:50
so I might not be able to talk about it next week
48:54
I'll talk about the new market
48:56
xPang event as well
48:58
thanks very much for your time
49:00
and we'll chat to you next week on the Nebo
49:26
