GR yeah, 86 I guess verse a twin turbo turbo Supra.
So mark for yeah, okay, and the dude is like zero like quarter mile
the the GR the one like every time.
Whoa, so it just I put it's like putting things into perspective, right?
You're like, oh, like everyone talks about how slow the new Toyota, you know,
those little GRs are and stuff like that.
And then the Supra is like God, right?
I mean, it is part of the tuning is what makes that thing so crazy.
But yeah, like every every they did it two or three times or as best two out
of three or something and it smoked it both times and then on poles from like
highway. It was the Supra had it on a couple of those tests.
Okay, like but but it wasn't like crazy close, right? Yeah. Yeah, that's
surprising though. Yeah, you wouldn't think that but it's like you watch it
like and they do they'll do a lot of those like they did like we're like oh
those are fast cars right and then you see it or it's like a lot of they'll do
modded cars and the modded cars just won't put the power down.
Yeah, like it's smug by something very normal. Yeah, I remember when they did.
I think it was a top cure or car. Well years ago they did a MR to turbo versus
the MR spider at the time, right? Oh, just stock stock stock stock stock stock.
Yeah, and the MR to turbo is faster and yeah, there's a few of those where they
went back and forth with. I think that it was that concept though like at the
time like 350 Z versus yet whatever. I don't know if it was a 240 or 280 ZX or
whatever and so like they kind of compared those. That was a fun one.
That's cool. Oh yeah, speaking of the new Z. They also did the it was like the
new Z verse. It was all that kind of like John that cars and the Z was like
super slow.
That's is it automatic only? No, even though on paper it looked good.
You got a manual. The Z the only the the Nismo is automatic only, but they're
changing that and like that's what everyone said. Everyone's saying like the Nismo one was
the good one was awesome, but they hated that it was that was auto and
everyone that drove it like like Camisa and Farah and a bunch of people know
they're like, yeah, like this with a manual would be an awesome car and
the argument at the time was that the buy whoever's buying a Nismo product is
all about the performance and less about the engagement, which ended up being
the exact opposite.
They're all about the track times and all that stuff and that when they were
basically they kind of like they banked on that being the popular one and
unfortunately it didn't work out like that. It was definitely the opposite.
It's like people wanted the manual because it's the enthusiast like sort of like
niche product and so they're hoping now that they're going to sell well, but
it's going to be interesting to see the MR to MR to spiders or I'm sorry at the
MR to turbo such an interesting car. It's it's a shame they didn't they just
didn't do very well in the period. I think they were not quite competitive
enough and I don't really know what their Achilles heel is like reliability wise.
No, they're not. They're not reliable. Pretty good. Yeah, they're great. Yeah,
they're awesome cars. I think the main thing is just access right. So because
it's of the layout and you know that that's hard to get in and out is what
you're saying just to work on the engine like that's yeah, yeah, but it's outside
of that. It's just labor times right overall like yeah, that's right. It's
like a car. Imagine like a built by legends MR to turbo. Yeah, they're
they're very cool. Yeah, I've driven a turbo before and an NA one and they drive
great. They're obviously bit engine cars and I think you know, like a lot of mid
engine cars, they have a stigma with like the whole Snap Overseer bullshit, but
it's really about people not knowing what they're doing and blowing it, especially
when you're dealing with turbo lag in a mid engine car, which is tricky. So you have
to be aware of that. Great looking cars. I would yeah, built by legends. If you're
listening make MR to turbos. Alright, I think it's that time. What do you think?
Yeah, real quick, a couple updates before we jump in. So I did two things to my E
30 during the break. One of them I don't remember if I had mentioned this before.
It's been a while. Maybe I did initially, but the the tack on my gauge cluster
hasn't worked since the swap. And so we thought maybe it had to do with the gauge
cluster itself because of like, you know, the the circuit traces and like the
soldering over year over the years kind of cracks and stuff. Mine worked before
the swap, but I did swap the gauges and stuff. And maybe we thought that in that
process, I maybe mess with, you know, I cracked the solder and stuff and it wasn't
actually, you know, delivering the juice to the tack. And so I got a whole, a brand
new, not brand new, but a rebuilt cluster from a very reputable source, all brand
new gears internally retraced, like, you know, super like dialed, like it basically
as fresh as a as an E 30 clusters you can get. Unfortunately, very expensive, brand
new SI, you know, SI board with like new batteries, all of it, LED lights. I finally
got around to installing it, nothing. So I went through the motions, you know, it's
not super involving, but it's sensitive stuff. You're dealing with pulling off
little panels and clips and screws that shit that break and tab. So I was very, very
careful and managed to keep everything intact, not damage anything. So I disassembled
it again. And I'm like, what the hell's going on? And so I, I, I swapped the SI
board from the original one again, and then I swapped it back out. I plugged it back
in nothing. And so I decided to make a post on the Facebook group that exists for
E 30 or K swapped E 30s, which is great. And that is what I use Facebook almost
exclusively now, except for some Facebook marketplace searches. And immediately within
15 minutes, a guy responded, he's like, did you connect the black wire from the
K power industries harness to the main harness? There is a black wire that comes
off of it that connects to this particular plug that goes to the back of the gauge
cluster. And I'm like, uh, well, I didn't perform the swap. Uh, and the, the shop
that did it went, you know, basically and followed the directions that were provided
and, uh, and I'll double check. So, you know, to, to, to, uh, uh, be lines credit,
they followed the exact instructions that they were handed. I went over that exact
same document and there's nothing about this wire to the tack and I'm like, what
the fuck's going on? So, um, I asked him, like, where is it? And he's like, well,
it's this and there's this pin. And then I went and did some more research and I
found the fucking wire. There's a black wire that's just dangling off. It's not
like it's not in any plug and it comes off of the K power industries jumper
harness that then gets plugged into a little plug that is zip tied. So you
drop, you have to remove the, the, the whole, um, glove box, you drop it off,
you remove it and then you pull the panel off. There's these covers that like,
you know, block all the wiring and shit and these see you up there. So it's like
tucked in there. I find the plug. Um, I'm like, all right, I have everything
disassembled. I have the cluster, half a disassembled. Everything's like off the
car, but I'm like, I'm in the garage. It's like 12, 30 a.m. I'm here. I have to
fire this fucking thing up and see if it works in the garage of the middle
night. Um, I plug the wire in, fired up works immediately. Wow. So, so wait, do
you, you had your original cluster figured out and you bought a new cluster? Yes.
So you have two clusters now. Yes.
Well, you could fix it. At least it worked, right? Yeah. You're already in
the mindset that you had to buy a new one. This is like classes. This is swap shit,
right? Like when you're doing this kind of stuff and the, the shady thing is that
I, I, I'm annoyed because, you know, I went, not only did I spend a bunch of
money on this stuff, but I spent a ton of time on it and like, you know, having
to do all this bullshit and it is something that should be in the instructions.
It's so simple. It's like, it's literally a wire that's right there that they
provide on their harness and there's this plug that you have to connect to
basically, you know, it goes from the jumper harness on the Cape, our industries
jumper harness to the main harness under the dash and yeah, it was missing in
the instructions. So, um, but I'm still not awesome. Did you, did you then reach
out to Cape ours and be like, no, I haven't. I want to, I will. I mean, I'll
mention it. Like it's definitely something they need to update their
instructions because like, I mean, how are you supposed to know that? Like, uh,
no, yeah, it's crazy. So anyways, I'm happy that I have a functional tack
finally. It's like, I've been using the, the Honda out of Cape pro app, which is,
I had my phone on, on a, on a mount and it's cool. Like I mentioned it before,
it's like, you can choose the S 2000 gauge cluster, which is what I was using
and, or the tack rather, but, but yeah, so huge went on that. It's all back
together, buttoned up and I went and test drove it and drove it around a bit
and then that was fun. Other update real quick. Um, there is a mount on the exhaust
that is hard mounted to the transmission subframe based on this custom exhaust
that they made. And that was the only way they could really make it work. Um,
and it was really bothering me because it was so damn busy the way that it
transferred, you know, the like vibration to the cab or the cabin rather.
And, um, why I had the car, um, when I was up there in San Mateo, I stopped
by our buddy, um, Andrew's shop in San Carlos and he, he's like, yeah, let's
throw it on the rack and see what we can do. And so we made a better version of
it that has rubber now, like basically to dampen, um, some vibration between
the, the body and the exhaust. Nice. And, um, it's massive. Like it's, it's crazy.
How it's like a game changer amount of like different. So different. And, um,
I remember, uh, one of the, one of the rallies, I don't know if it was the
first one or the second or the most recent one, um, Matt hushy pushy sat in
the passenger seat and when we got out of the car, uh, he's like, dude, like I
still feel like I'm vibrating, like I'm buzzing because of like all the vibration
under the car. Um, and now like, you know, with this setup, which is not a
permanent fix, it's like we're going to, I need to go to an exhaust shop and
basically have a make a permanent version of what we put together. Um, but
it's like, it's, it's unbelievable how much of a difference it made. Like it
from an NVH standpoint, like it's way more tolerable and like it also changed
the sound of the exhaust a little bit because I feel like it's damping, you
know, like the, the vibration. So the resonance is something happened there.
So it's still a little tinny and all that, but it's like, it's better. Um,
so that's just somewhere refined experience, right? Exactly. And that,
and that's where I'm out with this car, you know, now, now it's all just
refining, refining, you know, like, you know, a bunch of little details there.
Um, and I think, oh, one update real quick too before we jump into questions.
I, uh, I also learned that, um, that the transmission
has an issue where not, not, not, not this specific one, the one that's in my
car, but the get track 260, the way that the, the way that the bearings are in
this transmission, um, the four cylinder at lower RPM between like
1500 and like 2,500. Um, it, it, it's unbalanced, right? It's like balanced
in a way that it actually like vibrates and makes this weird whirring sound
through the transmission and it sounds like it's like a bad input shaft bearing
and I noticed that and I, I brought it up to, to, I think it was to Nick and Nick
said, yeah, do we got to go like metric mechanic at this point, like basically
and redo the whole tranny and I'm like, oh really? I'm like, fuck, well that,
like, I don't know, that sucks. But I went and did some more research on,
on, on this, um, uh, Facebook group and they said, yeah, it's like,
basically it's, it's, it's something you can't fix. Like it's, it has to do with
the four cylinder being attached to this transmission that was attached to a very
smooth balanced inline six and that didn't, it doesn't make that noise.
It doesn't resonate like that. And so with the four cylinder at a very
specific RPM, the whole transmission just basically sounds like it's rattling
apart. It sounds so shitty and the solution is S 2000 transmission.
So, um, that's the next iteration of this speaking of refinement, right? So
be cool. Six feet. Do it in like one of the best shifters in the world.
Like those, like those got to be expensive. Um, yes. And it's also,
it had, I just had a new drive shaft put in here that's reinforced. That's
like all this. So, so now we're going down that path. It's like,
now we're dealing with a whole other iteration of this, uh, the drive
train, you know, basically having to be redone. So that's going to be the next
thing that I'll do to this car. Um, and unfortunately it's, it's a must. Like,
I mean, if I want to like enjoy the car without it having, you know, this gnarly
ass like noise and I was talking to Camisa about it cause why I chatted with him
about doing a video, um, and talking about like sort of this Rad mod concept
and having it be like a Radwood era, like themed, like sort of like, um, show
and cause he's doing a whole new series that hasn't been released yet, but where
it could fit. And basically this gets up, it gets compared to like a E30 M3
Sport Evo. And so like it's kind of like a, it's like a, um, kind of like a
build your car versus buy the thing, you know, and so, you know, 250 grand
versus whatever this is, uh, and, and, you know, and, and, and having that
experience and, and comparing them. And, uh, I told them like, I, I don't want to
hand the keys over to him right now because he's, he's so fucking sensitive
with like, with shit like this and this would drive him insane. Like he probably
will just like step out of the car, the trans, the transmission. Yeah. Cause it's
so noisy and gross. Like I'll, I'll send you, I don't know if I can capture it on
the phone, but like what basically every time you come to a stop, it's like,
it's like, we got to have, we got to, we have to both drive it, even if it's
just like around the block, dude, cause I feel like it'll give us a good sense of
like everything. Well that, I think it'll be a before after compared to, but just
or if you drive it and want to enjoy it and keep it up there for a few days,
whatever, just keep that in mind. It's like, that's something that is annoying.
Yes. It sounds shitty, but you know, I think what I'm getting at is that it's
probably you're making a little bit of a molehill out of a, what am I trying to
say, Lane?
Am I making a bag out of the sows ear or was that you got two birds in one
hand and no, I don't know. Anyways, I want to drive it. I want to come down a
mountain. You're saying is that it's like it's probably not that big of a deal,
but like making it a bigger deal than it is. Well, no, I think you're incredibly
sensitive to it, which is, which makes sense, but I think that if someone like
myself were to drive it, I go, that's not so bad. Like you're like, it's like a
race car. Yeah, yeah, it's like these are not refined things that need to be
although, but I think he does want it to be a refined thing. No, I want to be
like a stock car. I encourage you to go down that road. If you want to and which
I'm glad to hear you're want to invest in it and like make it right, which is
killer, but what I'm saying is that I think I can overlook. Yeah. Well, I
appreciate that man makes me feel better. You know, it makes me more willing to
get over them keys, but I think I'd be really critical of it and I try to
talk shit about it till the end of my life probably lanes a different story. I
will give that. Yeah. And it also has to do like the shifter is, you know, as you
know, these 30 get track 260s, like they're kind of shitty, like they're kind of
whatever. It's sort of nine 15 ish, like where you have to, you know, it's floppy.
Yeah. You have to be like, and this is a fresh, like all of it is fresh, right?
Like, I mean, I had him rebuild all the bush. I mean, all of the bushings are
fresh. It's like, then it has a Z three short shifter in it and it's still kind
of like meh. It's like, it's basically like an okay nine 15, you know, where
an okay nine 15 is yes, you have to know how to drive it in and you have to
basically be patient with it. And it's like, when you go first, second, third,
you put it into third. It doesn't just slot in and want to go there naturally.
Right. So like, like, I know how to drive it and it's all that, but it's not
like a pleasant experience. And that's what I'm going for. Right. It's like,
that's where we're talking about this refinement shit. Like I'm working on
getting there because I'm building a very specific experience with this car.
And like we're almost there. Unfortunately, this is going to be a hefty one,
but and it is, it is something that's already been done, which is helpful,
but unfortunately, not a ton of people. So I'll have to lean heavily on like a
couple guys on this fucking. Yeah, yeah, Facebook open the whole time. Yeah.
Well, that's cool. I like before we get into whatever the trivia. I do want to
recommend two things real quick. I want to recommend the red flags podcast with
David Colhart, ranking F one world champions. Oh, cool. Which is kind of
cool. He does like a break. They do a bracket style. This is those guys that
they did the podcast with Gunther Steiner. Okay. I don't know if you've seen
that like the I watched on YouTube, but yeah, it's like, it's cool. It's just
if you're missing up one to it's kind of fun little watch. David Colhart is a
very it's funny how by the end I'm like, dude, David Colhart hates short people.
Oh, really? He literally he mentions like like the short man complex like ten
times. He mentions like how short Alonzo is ten times. He mentions Prost and
how Prost had an advantage over everyone he raced against because back then they
didn't change. Basically he's saying they didn't do now like weight is calculated
your weight. Yeah, but he's like doing he was raising against Mansell. He had a
six, ten second advanced six tenths of a second advantage over him per lap. So
he's like it's a complex that he has because he's because he had to live
through it because he's a big dude and he's like I could never get to that
weight. He's like and I was ten kg lower than I am now and now I'm at my healthy
weight, right? He's like, you know, so he's very like it's always talking about
these guys that are too short and and that was like why Prost didn't go as far
as like he would have was because of with him with his rankings because he like
docked him mostly raced in the era where basically he had an advantage because
he said like a Mansell was 20 kg heavier, which is like and he says it's
three tenths of a second per 10 kgs. So anyways, that was a that was a fun
listen or watch and then Lawrence Beretto from F1, you know, Lawrence Beretto.
He has a new like series and I think only the first ones come out so far and it
is available on YouTube, but it's through F1 and it's off the grid and the first
one was with Oscar Piastri and it's in Monaco and then kind of like just like
long form interview. That's pretty good. Okay, so like like like beyond the grid,
but yeah, but like in person driving around as McLaren talking, okay, you know
through the streets of Monaco, hiking up to the top, the overlook, more like yeah
more like yeah, more yeah, interesting hanging out. Oh sweet. Yeah, yeah, check

Yeah, so we're talking Oldsmobile here, not Chrysler, and what cars superseded
this wagon? Basically, they killed the wagon in favor of two new models.
I thought I thought you were just talking about like the general automotive
world and the minivan being Chrysler. You know, that's what I thought.
And Chrysler Oldsmobile Oldsmobile specifically. Okay, so they killed
off the wagon and replaced it with X model in the Oldsmobile lineup and
minivan and a midsize SUV. This is a 1991. It's an Oldsmobile silhouette,
maybe. Yes. Is that what it's called? Silhouette. And then that's the minivan
and then the SUV. Who fucking bravado? Dude, between you guys, Oldsmobile
experts over here. We're dialed, dude. We also know what 1991 silhouette
and bravado. What awful names to silhouette. They produced over a 21 year
run of the custom Cruiser. 451,000 were built. We don't see them very often
anymore. I don't think they really survived around here. They were never sold
here really. I'm pretty proud of my Oldsmobile knowledge. Recently,
someone mentioned like, oh, there was this Oldsmobile down the street for me
and it's like that wedgie, but it's like nineties. But I'm like, is it an
allero? Yeah, an allero. I'm like she see wedgie. That's opposite. I was like
I think. Am I am I right in the cattle? The sorry the Oldsmobile silhouette
was. I think it was the one in get short. Get shorty where he says it's a
Cadillac of minivans. Oh, that right where he like remember. What's his name?

me your comment about VHS and movies. I was talking about my 10 year old about
how cool it was on a Friday evening because it was Friday. This was this
past Friday when it was raining to go to the movie store and and effectively,
you know, check out a movie like you do at the library because we do that at
the library still and so explaining to her that process of like getting
excited, going to the store, going up and down the aisles, finding the movie
and then finding out that it's not in stock and being super pissed. No,
no, but going to the return rack and saying did it come back and they
that did nice. Did he grab that or and then all of it the whole process
this right and then on the way home like we. I'm sorry on the way home that
day we were coming home from somewhere and it was raining and the whole
conversation started because I saw a pizza delivery guy with this sign on
the roof and I was telling her how like Friday night pizza delivery movie is
like as cool as it got for us right like and and she was just like really good
well. It was also an event. It was just an event in itself. Sometimes you leave
without a movie because you're like couldn't decide, but you were there for
an hour. You got frozen yogurt next door. It was like a whole thing or you
would get one. What we would do a lot. You get like one new release and then
you get the three for one all right older movies and you're like you kind
of gamble you like you do like one. You think you'd like maybe like you kind
of gamble with a couple of those and because maybe you start one of them and
it sucks. You have no way I really know it. Well, you also get one that you've
seen 50 times just to be safe. Exactly. You got to get rad or you know never
ending story or whatever. Yeah, you get that little safety net one. Yeah, I
was and you'd see people in your class there. You'd see people you know you'd
like my buddy Chris worked there at blockbuster on 41st and that was a big
that was a big deal is like seeing him and as a has a job in high school and
how about this? We should we throw a little quote on we someone should
make a very accurate blockbuster or video store simulator where you walk
your avatar through the aisles and you have to look for the title that you
want to watch. Sounds horrible. One title one row is HBO Max one rows
Netflix, but you got to find it and maybe just by random it's checked out or
no one rewound it. So you got to like when you hit play, it's like sorry. You
got to rewind. All right, we're getting to end the weeds. This is kind of like
that. The camera was talking about on the one where you have to send the
this is just like instead of scrolling on a crappy interface on Netflix, you're
like walking down. You're walking down this cool little video store and there's
some weird posters on the wall and like some nerdy guy putting, you know,
licorice back on the shelf and arts and I remember I remember like seeing
some like hot chick or that you like never talked to or whatever. You're like,
oh, do that girl's here. Like I'm like, you know, it's like, oh, you see your own
the aisle over there. Yeah, yeah, you mean any other dad was the one right there
kind of near your house lane and that little strip mall next to the dog wash
place. Oh yeah, that was the video video. It was video video. So yeah, video
videos. So I remember going there and I was one of the guys who cut up my
blockbuster card and and they would if you cut up your blockbuster card, oh
yeah, they would thumb tack it to this wall and they would give you a free
movie rental and a membership like because they wanted your so I was I was
like fuck the corporation, your warrants friend over there. Oh yeah, I like
video video is rad. It had a little back entrance and they also had a big
foreign section, which I was super into. So yeah, can each one East Cliff
video shout out East Cliff video killer. Yeah East Coast was cool. That's my
spot very. We had a section at East Cliff. Yeah, we had three just in this
like little midtown neighborhood. It's crazy like next. There was one next
to whatever the store that just got demolished and then there was and then
there was blockbuster and then there was the one next to where Whole Foods is
now as well. We used to walk the video store hill both ways to school and
