It's fast, but like for the for what it's competing against,

I don't think they've done it now.

Because they said, if I remember right,

they was going against the Porsche Taycan, right?

And pretty sure off the top of my head, like their top ones are fast.

I mean, look, I'm only saying fast purely because this is performance

and they're totally calling that out.

But the talk is quite impressive.

It's insane, honestly. Yeah.

And look, honestly, I quite like the look of this car.

I don't like the price, but I like the look of this car.

It's a sedan for a start.

But in all seriousness, like, even though it's ridiculously expensive,

obviously, they're not trying to sell bulklet of these.

Even though, like you're talking about 200 and just under 210,000,

it's still, I think about forty odd thousand dollars cheaper

than the one of the mid-spec or entry-level Porsche Taycans.

So like as a package, it's still quite amazing in all seriousness.

I think it's priced at least 50,000 more than what it should be

because, you know, you look at the

by the time this car comes out, there'll be five other cars.

I think we might even be able to buy the P7 in Australia,

given what they've just announced in Europe two days ago or yesterday.

It's it's a very cool looking car.

Don't get me wrong, but I think by the time this comes out,

it will be unfortunately little too late.

Yep, I think the P7 is definitely, you know, the one to to get potentially.

I mean, if you want a better price, obviously,

I don't know how much you reckon there is one one 10 for that one 20.

P7. Yeah, I'd say 75.

It's 40,000. It starts at 40,000 US dollars in China.

Let's say we put the conversion on 60.

Put the dealer tax on shipping all the rest.

It'll start at 75, and I think it will pop out at 90.

At this rate, if all the Chinese top spec cars coming

at 90 K or under 100, they will be selling a lot.

So yeah, they were talking about the fact that they were kind of referring

hinting at the fact that it's going to replace the Tesla Model S, right?

Because you can't buy a new Tesla Model S.

So it's kind of the halo saloon sedan car, right?

So Paul starts playing in the space.

P7 is going to play in the space.

Yeah, I mean, you're right, guys.

This is not going to sell a lot of these Paul Star Fives.

It's the kind of the hero car now.

And you know, it's for hero cars.

It's pretty good.

But a quick question, for the price of one of these,

you can buy two used take-hands.

So one for you, Tom, one for your Roland.

And, you know, I think once you've driven it,

we can we can give it away as well.

Yeah, look, I think I was like, yeah, well,

the Polestar software, arguably,

probably is a bit better than the Titans.

What do you reckon? Yeah, yeah.

So it's got that, I guess.

will be able to hopefully do a test drive

in the not too distant future to give out educated thoughts.

Great offering for 50 odd grand, speaking from experience.

Yeah, William, that's the thing with luxury cars, right?

You know, as soon as you drive out of the dealership, boom.

That's like 50 percent.

Probably, probably more.

Is that too harsh, 50 percent?

Maybe not so much.

I think especially if, unfortunately, as you know,

we're all hearing this right globally,

there's a lot of rumours and sort of industry knowledge

around potential future for Polestar as well.

So we don't want a fiscal type of a moment

where customers start paying this sort of money

and then there's no support, which I'm sure

geely holding is not going to, you know, let that happen.

But just with sort of thinking about,

there's a lot of competition coming.

But as said, as soon as you drive anything,

that's over 150 grand.

You basically are losing money every second.

Question for us, guys, from Andrew.

Question for the panel, 7X.

Zika 7X is 800 volts, that's correct.

On Tesla V3, the car uses a DC-DC boost,

does a pack-side cap about 100 amps,

limited to 60, 70 kilowatts.

Yeah, look, there will be a bottleneck

for 800 volt cars at the moment.

The most I've ever seen any car 800 volts on a DC,

on a Tesla V3, V4 is about 100 kilowatts.

So I think this has been tested in Europe

with Beyond Ireland.

He could test it, but you know,

it'd be good to see that in Australia as well.

I'm thinking Roland and Riz probably, again,

probably max 100 kilowatts for that 7X.

Yeah, I can't see it anymore than that.

Will there be a Volvo equivalent but cheaper?

Hmm, have you heard anything, Riz?

Volvo P7, EP or P5?

Well, the Volvo ES90 is coming out.

We're only getting a single motor version,

but there's a twin motor one in Europe.

Maybe that could sort of form the back in the day,

though, all the top spec ones were the Polestar editions,

but this already is the Polestar,

so I think we're gonna get just,

maybe a twin motor one,

but that's Europe only at the moment,

as far as I can see.

Okay.

All right, moving right along.

So Roland, Mr. ADR King,

has hosted BYD Ato2 ADR Confirmed for Australia,

which is great news.

So good to talk about something a bit more affordable.

Fingers crossed, 4.3 meters.

So it's a very good city size car for sure.

It doesn't look like a tiny car as well,

but it is actually quite small.

And I think for the ones that do care,

at least it has towing 750 kilograms towing,

so that's also a win.

Look, it's not fast,

but I don't think it's meant to be fast anyway, so.

And there's two variants.

I couldn't really work out any differences.

One of them said 16-inch wheels,

other one with optional 17,

the other one just said 16 and 17.

So perhaps just something put in error

when they submitted the files,

but I'm just thinking maybe it's got sunroof

or something nicer inside that makes it heavier,

but there wasn't too much of a weight difference,

but definitely one is a little heavier.

Yeah, 15-55, 15-90, yeah, 35 kilos, yep.

I mean, I expect one to be like the essentials variant,

right, like the Dolphin and the Ato3.

So one sort of essentials,

one versus the extended or standard versions, yeah,

reasonable guess.

Price-wise.

Roland, what do you reckon?

So what do I say, 45 kilos?

I'm gonna hope the first number starts with a three.

Has to be,

if they're really, really aggressive,

34, 9, 9, or 34, 8, 8, 8, sorry.

Yeah, I agree with that.

I mean, it looks like a Dolphin

and the other three had a baby.

And if the Dolphin's 29, Ato's 39,

it's got to be 35, 34, 35, yep.

Yeah.

Did you get a chance to drive this one, Tom,

last year when you were there?

No, no, I didn't.

I don't think it was,

I mean, I think we saw it in Shanghai, I think,

at the Audition.

Yeah, I don't think it was released at that time, yeah.

Yeah.

I mean, I expect to drive very similar to Ato3 or Dolphin.

I think it drives,

oh, I had a quick run around in a car park in May

and yet it drives better than a Dolphin

and it's very spacious and quite good on the inside,

like most BYU products,

but I think it's a, compared to an Ato,

it's one generation ahead.

So I think, yeah, if they can price it at that,

it would sell well.

What the disappointment has been with the Dolphin

is it's such a, at that essential price,

it's been very, very good,

but only August is when we started to see the sales

start to prime a bit,

which was I think 400 and something units.

So hopefully we already can put a bit more effort

into marketing some of these more cheaper

and more affordable models.

This, the Dolphin, and even Ato3 Essential,

which I know it's a bit of a dated product now,

but yeah, I think they've got a pretty solid lineup.

Don't forget the Seagull or the Dolphin Surf.

So we can only hope the next one to announce is the Seagull.

to what we'll get here.

30,000 will sell well if it's even somewhere near that figure

because I was looking 4.3 meters, you've got EV3

and Z-Correx says like, I guess two cars

off the top of my head at that size.

And they're just four in line, $50,000.

You've got MG4, that's 4.2,

Bobo EX30, 4.2, Insta-4, S5,

yep, 4.5 I think it is, isn't it?

Yep, yep, yeah, this will do well.

I mean, you know, BYD, can't go too wrong.

There's another rear three-quarter shot there.

Not a bad style as well.

And that's the interior.

So it's from a cluster built into the dash

and then I see my rotating screen, trademark BYD.

Cool, there you go.

That's Ato2 looking forward to seeing that on our road,

surely?

Actually, one car that's a bit of a cracker

of a deal at the moment,

I think they've got a special coming up,

is the Chariomota E5, the Forgotten E5,

$34,990 with $2,000 off over four days or something.

That for cars with I think 60 kilowatt hour battery pack,

400 and something kilometers of WLTP range,

that's a lot of car under 40 grand.

And it's got a BYD blade battery, LFP,

so yeah, great underpinnings, yeah.

That is a good deal actually.

It's not the most inspiring car,

but for that price, hey, I can forgive a lot.

So that's pretty good.

I think we're probably gonna reach

end of year kind of specials guys, right?

We're sort of heading into mid-summer,

sorry, mid-summer, mid-September.

Surely they'll be on the car soon.

Let's see who gets in first,

trying to clear all their 20-25 stock.

The LeapMota, I must say, look, it's not,

I don't often want to promote hybrids and things,

but the LeapMota, we had the RE-EV this week

and it's not bad for that price.

The engine only powers the battery,

it doesn't power the wheels,

so essentially think of an EV with a generator at the back.

I think that's a pretty good deal.

If you're a Costco member, 22,000 bucks off, I think it is.

Now this is a good price like 89,400 before on roads.

German made mustn't forget that as well.

And it's I think it's over a hundred.

And that if you add the seats, I remember this, if you add

the seats, you'll push it over the luxury car tax

threshold, which means you'll be disqualified from FBT

exemptions as well.

I personally think the connotation behind European

people, at least from my field, is that the

Chinese cars that are coming here are pretty much

borderline, you know, taking it.

It's having driven a lot of VW cars now, not

catch up, but the software for a start,

If this had been built in Shanghai, would

under 90 grand, do you think, without

that German tax?

Well, we don't, so just for our viewers

and listeners, the, you know, have we

discussed why this is built in Germany?

Someone did say my comments is because

they're not building enough cars over

there.

They need to supply us, which I don't

know, I'm plausible.

That could be one.

Yeah.

Remember, Shanghai is really busy

wrapping up Model YL and they're

also busy getting that model, the

affordable model production line

sort of, you know, getting started as

well.

So they've got enough on their plate

on that front and also that I guess

Germany supplying cars now to fill

partially the production sort of gap

to Canada to the UK.

And I guess now here as well.

How much is the Model 3 performance

just out of interest?

87 drive away.

Yeah.

For Australia, 87 drive away, which

is why I originally thought based on

the percentage difference between

Europe and Australia, I was

generally thinking this Model Y,

based on the 40 something percent

difference of me working it out,

that the Model Y drive away would

be around 88, 89.

Right.

But this is the base price plus

the driveway cost, which you see

down the bottom left 96.

I guess if I...

So what's the difference right in

this car?

Upgradable dampers.

Apparently they've done quite a lot

and that's if what they had in

the Model 3 performance and how

much it changed that car from

experience and how bumpy some of the

earlier performances were.

It's that suspension is pretty

cool.

What it can do, make it as

softer than a rear-wheel drive on

the road, but then as soon as you

push it, you know, pretty well

planted on the road.

Not saying that people who buy

Model Y performances will be

taking every corner like they're

taking an Apex on a racetrack,

at the amazing rate of

30 kilowatts.

Better than nothing.

We got it.

But I guess in saying that

I'm not having a dig at the car.

I did go charge there with

like 80% or thereabouts.

So I knew that it was

not going to charge fast.

And the instance max rate

is only 120 kilowatts.

But it opened

and I was dedicated to

make sure everyone knows

whether or not it works or not.

So I was like,

let's go try anyway.

Brilliant.

I would enjoy it because like

the power is just like

I mean, look, summary,

basically the article was about,

it kind of got a bit confused.

I think it mixed up FSD's tech,

which I had the fortunate chance to drive

last week or two weeks ago

with basic autopilot

and then confusing FSD with full autonomy,

which obviously is not.

Tesla makes it very clear in the disclaimer

when you click through the yes, I agree, I agree.

Roland, what do you think

when you read this article?

What were your initial thoughts?

The news being the news wanting to create tricks,

but they haven't even got the story right.

Like, at least sometimes when they give,

when they try to get quick bait,

you know, they've got the story half right,

but this is just, I don't even know.

I don't even look at who wrote it,

but it was one of those,

had a quick skim and then I was like,

this is going to blow up for the wrong reasons.

I know, right?

Yeah, the facts were kind of half right,

but not quite, yeah.

For context, yes, we went through this

Tesla self-driving video in fast forward

that Tesla released like what, two months ago,

we shared on the stream as well.

I think that's what they were referring to.

Riz, you're going to say something?

Yeah, I guess, firstly,

for, you know, the benefit of our viewers

and audience and obviously it's something

that's made quite a few headlines this week.

We're covering it.

We wouldn't give it as much airtime purely

because as Roland said, the facts are just not there.

Secondly, Tesla at no stage has ever said

they were testing an autonomous vehicle.

They've got a driver there,

he's got his hands close enough.

I see people doing things they shouldn't be doing

with cars that have no level of any autonomy,

you know, basically controlling the steering wheel

with their legs while doing a whole lot

of other things that they shouldn't be doing.

All in all, it's a bit of a drama.

You know, it looks like Jason Ohm,

who is clearly an automotive and autonomous vehicle expert

who has written this article,

I think needs to talk to a variety of people.

You know, like Roland, I skimmed through it.

My thoughts are, if they're going to get a professor

to talk about Victorian issues,

why do they have to go to Queensland?

Find the professor there.

And secondly, if the Victorian government had any clues

such as the Victorian EV tax,

where I had multiple electric cars

and they only taxed one of them,

another one that didn't even know existed,

when both of them were Teslas,

what help have they got,

even if this thing was illegal in Victoria

of, you know, giving permits or not giving permits?

Obviously Tesla has applied to everything they need

to ensure these videos and these demos are done

so they can show progress.

And they will abide by all laws and rules

because it's too risky not to,

especially when, you know, everyone's watching you

all the time.

I mean, there's no permit required.

Everyone knows, people in the know

know that Teslas FSD,

even the one that I tested with Joy,

is still level two.

It's not anywhere, any more than that.

So level two is already approved

and available to be used

by pretty much every Tesla owner.

Every other vehicle we've tested

has some sort of auto steer

and lane keeping function as well.

So it's not really new tech from that point of view.

So it's still level two.

It's still able to be driven

pretty much in all Australian jurisdictions.

It's an interesting article.

I think they're scrambling their facts

for some sensation unfortunately.

I think speaking of funny things you've seen

and other people do, I think one of my favorite pictures

ever since mobile speed cameras

or mobile phone cameras

called New South Wales,

is the picture of someone

basically texting, or the driver's texting

and the passengers steering the wheel.

That's the kind of idiocy you see

on Australian roads.

I'm involved with AEVA down in Melbourne

and it's

the conference has been done

annually for I don't know how many years

but I've been to at least three or four of them.

Canberra,

Tom I think you and I went together.

We did a road trip in a Polestar 2

and then there was Perth

and Hobart last year.

We saw Charles and others down there as well

which is great.

This year it's in Victoria in Melbourne

and we are doing it

a day before

so everything electric in Melbourne

starts I think on the 14th to the 16th.

This is being held on the 13th

at a venue

not far from the showgrounds

where everything electric would be.

Lots of industry

insights and other things going to be shared.

The program is up already

if anyone's interested or

if anyone knows people that are within the industry

or are looking at the EV space

it would be great for them to

just come and attend

and there's a lot of

insights and knowledge shared

that I guess you won't really find anywhere else.
