Welcome to Driving Well Awesome. My name is Warren. I'm Lane. And I'm Art. We're here. We're doing it. It's really happening. Thank you for joining us, everyone. We're live. And all. I just saw a bumper sticker on the way here that said tired of traffic. Question mark? More birth control. Oh, okay. Oh, okay. Yeah.
02:13
You know, but really, if you think about that, like a lot of the young kids aren't really driving. It's more e-bikes. And I was like, you know, I heard they're also not having sex either. We've been talking to.
02:23
That's what I heard, dude.
02:24
You've been asking kids?
02:25
Kids. I talk to a lot of little kids. I'm like, hey, I'm in sex. They're like, dude, I'm nine. I'm like, oh, okay.
02:32
Lane likes for the question.
02:34
I'm like, well, yeah. I'm like, so are you having sex?
02:41
Can we get in trouble for this?
02:48
Dude, there was a, the opposite. I saw, um, I don't know. I think it popped up on my feed like a few weeks ago. I sent it to our boy, Vandalay, because it was the weirdest thing I've ever seen.
02:57
It was, it was the opposite. And it was this couple who were saying that we need to populate, you know, that especially if you're an intellectual and you're a well to do family, like it is your duty.
03:09
The opposite of idiocracy.
03:12
It is the idiocracy.
03:14
And, um, it was, and they're like, you know, they're like wearing their, you know, round little Japanese hero Hito looking glasses, but they're very white. They're like from Brooklyn or something, you know, and they're wearing some elaborate guard outfit.
03:28
But it's a, it's legit. It looks like a skit, but then like you start looking and they're like, no, wait a minute. These people are 100% serious.
03:35
Like they're just the way they talk and the kids are all climbing all over them. And I think they have like 12 children or something crazy. Like, it's wild.
03:45
Cool though. You know, it's a fun times.
03:47
It is cool. Less traffic.
03:49
But yeah, e-bike situation in our town is bad news. It's super annoying.
03:54
I would imagine Santa Barbara, Santa Cruz, you know, are very probably high on the list.
04:02
Like, you know, downtown they pedestrianized like, you know, a lot of that like state street, like, which used to be like the go to spot back in the day.
04:10
And like it's sort of like at post COVID, like it's been sort of in recovery mode and they pedestrianize it to try to help, you know, bring people back.
04:18
And as you can imagine, now you have a, it's literally a street where people are walking and crossing the street constantly.
04:25
And then kids are ripping up and down like at full tilt and literally running into people occasionally killing people.
04:31
Like, and so they finally put stop signs where there used to be stop lights and like some kids obey that.
04:39
But it's it's they're trying to figure they're looking for solutions.
04:43
Because that can be even worse because a lot of times bicyclists will run stop signs.
04:49
So then if you're expecting people to stop, then they don't.
04:53
But yeah, I guess I was thinking about this after morning motors.
04:57
We were, well, before there was some guys getting ready for a ride, which on where we do morning motors is a very popular kind of launching off point for mountain biking and road biking and stuff.
05:06
Anyways, there was a group of like eight 50, 60 somethings all with e-bikes with throttles, you know.
05:15
And I'm like, well, what's the difference between that and a dirt bike?
05:17
Like, I mean, really you're, you're going to rip up a hill at 40.
05:21
I mean, you're getting, you're pedaling, you're like, it's pedal assist.
05:24
Some pedal assist and the bikes are like more manageable.
05:27
Like you can maneuver them easier to go down like a little trail or something.
05:30
And they're not loud.
05:31
That's that's a huge difference.
05:33
They're not loud, but they are very and they're not as fast, right?
05:37
But they can still rip up a trail down a hill.
05:39
They're as fast, probably.
05:41
They're fast enough to cause major injuries to people that they run into.
05:47
We're going to get off our old person soapboxer, but the,
05:52
but those kids are in the serons and stuff, which are gnarly.
05:56
They look like dirt bikes.
05:57
They do like 50 just throttle.
06:00
Like they just have pedals for show.
06:02
That's what, that's what Logan has for motor.
06:06
So we had, we had one, we had one at range and we took like the,
06:09
the governor, it has like a little, you just like switch two wires.
06:13
It only goes 30 from the factory.
06:15
And then you like literally just take these two wires and cross them
06:19
and it does 50 like the skyline.
06:23
What do you call it?
06:24
The boost limiter pill on that.
06:27
It tells you whatever it's having said all this.
06:30
I wonder how motivated we would have been to get our first really
06:35
crappy car at like not 16.
06:38
I can see 18, you know, like where you really like start to
06:42
want to be mobile, but like at 15 and you can actually get a
06:46
bike that'll go 30 miles with one charge and you can skip around
06:53
You never go to a gas station.
06:54
You never deal with an oil chain.
06:55
You can't heel toe downshift.
06:57
You can't rip up 152 at three in the morning.
07:00
And you can't sleep in it.
07:02
You can't smoke bowls with your friends in it.
07:04
You can't pass out in it after smoking bowls.
07:06
Dude, hot box, hot box, your e-bikes like you would line them up
07:09
and then you put a towel over you or like a freaking,
07:12
what do you call it?
07:14
Although you can't, you can't drive with friends in the car
07:18
now until you're like 30 anyways.
07:25
I think it's a solid year.
07:29
Because I mean, I was breaking the law.
07:31
When I got my permit, I had kids and I had like my friends
07:34
That was the drive with your parents and shit my parents
07:37
but that's because in Watsonville, your kids,
07:39
your friends are having kids.
07:42
Kids killing kids just for the juice, you know, all that.
07:45
Let's see more birds control less traffic.
07:48
We're getting right back.
07:52
Thanks for that callback on that.
07:53
That's my pleasure.
07:55
Well, this is another episode here of the Drive On Awesome
07:58
I guess we could talk about like actual car stuff and
08:01
We had a morning motors.
08:03
Which was fantastic.
08:04
We, uh, it was also the hottest weekend of the year.
08:08
It's been toasty, man.
08:09
Oh, you just made that up.
08:10
I mean, I heard that, uh, San Francisco had had the
08:15
warmest day since October of 2024.
08:21
So that puts it in line for one of the hotter days.
08:24
You know, I'm not going to say we're, you know,
08:27
right on the record here.
08:28
But anyways, warm, warm day.
08:30
Thanks for writing a note, dude.
08:33
On your, uh, we are servicing the M3 at Beeline Motor Club.
08:36
I was going to actually come and talk to you after this,
08:39
but I was kind of in a rush, but yeah, it's in the,
08:45
I know I was in a rush to get up here and I didn't want
08:49
Um, the M3 is at Beeline, which I think we'll get
08:52
into as well as art's car.
08:54
The E30 made it all the way back.
08:56
I have so many questions about this.
08:58
Yeah, I was hearing there were rumors of an art
09:01
appearance at morning motors.
09:03
Someone came up to us.
09:06
I think Nick, Nick or someone said, uh, is art here.
09:09
And I was like, well, no, and I don't know if he was
09:15
It was the classic art move, right?
09:16
It was like, you're not sure it might show up.
09:18
It may, maybe like a walk up mid, mid meeting.
09:22
He told one person didn't tell anyone else.
09:25
And then I didn't know if it was like, is he,
09:28
Is the car showing up?
09:32
Is he having entourage with him?
09:34
I mean, could I, it could have helicopter onto the pump
09:36
track right there, you know, just all the dust kicking
09:39
That would have been sick.
09:40
Well, Nick say, and he went like, and he even went
09:44
like through extra steps to have the car ready for you
09:49
Oh, I missed that part.
09:51
I didn't hear about the GTI.
09:54
Can we get a nickname for the GTI that it's Florida
09:57
What do we call it?
10:02
Oh, because it's like the the dragons has, you know,
10:07
a little extra juice.
10:09
The dragons restrictor plate was reinstalled because
10:12
it's rocking California plates at the moment.
10:15
I know that is true.
10:16
The dragons restrictor plate was reinstalled.
10:19
Let's get into that.
10:21
I mean, we can talk about real quick.
10:22
I mean, before we get in our motors, we want,
10:24
but we, I was originally going to drive it up there
10:26
the night before so that I could be at morning
10:29
motors and you know the car.
10:30
I would show the car there hood up for lanes.
10:36
And so and then I was going to drive back home after
10:39
But unfortunately there were some commitments that
10:41
came up that kind of hampered my style or to
10:46
crap my solo man or it was a lacrosse game and
10:50
you know it was like the new dad's getting
10:52
together at the new school and like I was
10:55
I know what it was.
10:56
It was an e-bike polo dude.
10:58
But we have to set 25 on those because then he
11:04
So yeah, anyways, yeah, that's why he did.
11:06
We did talk about the car being prepped.
11:07
I was going to go up there regardless obviously,
11:09
but ended up being there a day late.
11:12
And so the car did drop the car off and I
11:16
brought back the golf GTI three thirty seven
11:21
edition mark for mark for sorry.
11:24
Well, everyone would know that Lane.
11:25
If it's a three thirty seven,
11:27
people don't all know what a three three seven
11:29
is all know what a mark for.
11:30
Are you kidding me?
11:31
If you listen to the show and you don't know
11:38
Let me riddle you this.
11:40
You have a you have a little hot hatch at
11:44
And I'm surprised you didn't just fly
11:47
Was that not an option?
11:48
We're not something you thought about.
11:49
Well, no, because on the timing of all
11:51
that it was going to be messy and so it
11:53
seems like more work.
11:55
I have come the day before.
11:56
Well, you know, you have to go all the way
11:59
Like, you know, it's you.
12:01
There's no Santa because then you have
12:06
If I did Sanjo, you know, I would
12:08
have had to go to Las Vegas or Denver
12:10
as my way over a nice little night.
12:13
It's only a four hour drive.
12:16
It's a four hour drive.
12:17
So it was like it all adds up to,
12:18
you know, whatever.
12:19
So but I didn't realize there's no
12:21
Santa's a little hot hatch.
12:24
So I drove that thing back and I had
12:26
no idea that this car was modified
12:28
because it looks like a stock mark
12:30
for silver three, three, seven as
12:32
they all were and real quick three,
12:34
three, seven is a limited edition.
12:35
They made 1500 of them slick top
12:39
Recaro interior, which is super cool.
12:42
And it has different interior trim as
12:44
a brushed aluminum.
12:45
They have different, like, you know,
12:46
nicer door panels, door cards
12:48
as the VW guys say it's got the
12:50
BBS shot peen finish wheels.
12:52
I think they're 18s.
12:53
They look like BBS RC's, but I don't
12:55
know what model they are and bigger
12:58
And I think that's LSD,
13:00
no LSD and same power,
13:03
but it has a six speed.
13:05
So it is geared differently.
13:07
And yeah, that's a pretty cool
13:10
It's a cool car as it is, right?
13:12
I think what did that 1.8 T make?
13:13
Like, I think it was 180 horsepower
13:16
It wasn't the 25 model.
13:18
And so I got into it.
13:20
Everything looks normal.
13:21
You know, it looks completely stock
13:23
inside, except for a boost gauge.
13:25
And I was like, is that I don't know.
13:26
I was wondering is the boost gauge
13:28
part of this three, three, seven
13:29
package because it looks really
13:31
It's like integrated beautifully on
13:33
Anyways, beautifully.
13:34
So I didn't really get on it
13:37
until I was kind of near
13:40
Watsonville area back there in
13:43
And I was like very impressed
13:45
because it absolutely rips.
13:47
I mean, Nick mentioned that
13:49
it's around 300 horsepower.
13:51
And it feels every bit of it.
13:53
I don't know how much torque.
13:54
It feels super torquey and it's
13:57
It's like a, he has a hybrid
13:58
KO4 in there, a single turbo.
13:59
So like it really, really lags
14:01
and then just gives you all the
14:03
power and it rips all the way
14:04
to red line, which is really
14:06
It doesn't drop off because
14:07
he's got it breathing really
14:09
And it's got all the
14:10
supporting mods, right?
14:11
So is it putting down that
14:13
That's my question, dude.
14:14
So putting down the hatch.
14:17
No, Lane, Lane, dude.
14:19
So this is the classic thing
14:21
that I always talk about.
14:22
Like one of the biggest reasons
14:23
I hate front wheel drive cars
14:26
And this car dances
14:28
all over the fucking place.
14:30
It's like, and it's like, it's
14:32
kind of fun in a way that,
14:34
you know, it's like you have
14:35
to man handle it and it's like
14:37
trying to pull you out of the
14:38
fucking road and it handles
14:41
It's got a huge rear sway bar
14:42
on it and like, you know,
14:43
the suspension is all fresh.
14:44
It's got conies on it and
14:47
But if you're coming around
14:49
turn like I was over there in
14:51
Elkhorn, you know, and
14:54
you're not only is the rear
14:56
like wanting to rotate as soon
14:57
as you lift off the rear is
14:59
You go back on it and instead
15:00
of ripping into the turn that
15:01
you want, like now the car's
15:03
trying to go off the fucking
15:05
So yeah, and it has a lot of
15:08
So it's like dancing around
15:10
And I actually asked Nick,
15:11
I'm like, what's the diff
15:13
He's like at stock.
15:14
I'm like, yeah, NLST in
15:15
you know, would plant it and
15:17
help eliminate it, pull it
15:20
So but it's a lot of fun.
15:21
It sounds really good to
15:23
I don't know what his intake
15:24
and exhaust setup is, but it's
15:26
It's all not custom, but it's
15:27
modified and it sounds almost
15:29
like a five cylinder.
15:30
It's got like a little howl
15:33
But yeah, I was really
15:36
way, way faster than I
15:37
expected, you know, especially
15:38
getting into a car that you
15:39
expect a certain thing.
15:40
And it's like, I think it
15:42
was acceleration wise.
15:43
It's it was as fast as my
15:45
You know, I think it's
15:46
no power to wait here.
15:48
I mean, those are yeah, that's
15:50
a very capable car.
15:52
Yeah, I drove it several years
15:53
ago from I drove it like
15:57
down 84 from Alice's
15:59
and I was very, very
16:02
I was like, damn this thing.
16:04
Like this thing is very fast.
16:07
I've been, I was toying
16:08
around with getting a four door
16:09
GTI for a while there and I
16:11
probably still should, but
16:12
I'm just too lazy and just
16:13
drive my truck everywhere.
16:14
But that was because
16:16
Andrew sat in the back, you
16:18
know, and it was like a pain
16:19
in the ass to get him in and
16:20
out of a back seat kind of
16:21
situation with his friends
16:23
Now it's he's pretty much
16:26
Very excited about it, by the
16:29
I'm three right in the
16:31
It's been pretty fun.
16:32
But that would be an option
16:33
now as a two door GTI.
16:35
It's having technical
16:37
Yeah, so there's a lot of
16:39
options with that, you know,
16:40
the last of those, the golf
16:42
R's like chef Malone had.
16:45
That is mark five five
16:46
style, which are kind of cool
16:49
And it's like, or do you have
16:50
a mark five or mark six?
16:51
He had a mark six, huh?
16:54
Yeah, but they made the two
16:56
They made the two door and
16:57
it's sort of like what a
17:00
And we always poo poo the
17:01
four door, you know, when
17:02
they were kind of introduced
17:03
or like it's not a real
17:05
But in practical use, it's
17:08
Everyone that has a mark
17:11
But they like worked the
17:13
looks out where they look
17:14
pretty good with a four
17:15
door, a four door too.
17:17
Where I think mark threes
17:18
looked kind of goofy as
17:20
It was something about that
17:21
that like rear of the
17:23
butt of it was to like
17:25
not it was too organic
17:27
where now they've kind of
17:28
squared it off and you
17:29
have that like the door
17:30
shut line is better.
17:31
The hatch shut line.
17:32
So yeah, they figured it
17:35
But I don't know if I
17:37
Um, why would that be
17:42
Anyhow, we'll let them work
17:45
You should log off and log
17:47
Maybe power on and off.
17:49
Hey, art, turn it off
17:51
and then turn it on again.
17:53
Um, anyhow, so we can talk
17:56
about morning motor as well.
17:58
Art is refiguring his
18:00
configuring morning
18:06
We had a really good
18:08
Um, we had, uh, a little
18:10
pre-hang at cat and cloud.
18:12
Of course, our friends at
18:13
cat and cloud, which was
18:15
Um, I met up with, uh, Pete
18:17
and Pete, Peter B, Peter C.
18:20
No drew sadly drew your
18:23
Um, but he had obligations
18:25
and, uh, that was a nice
18:27
hang and then into morning
18:30
Like I said before, very
18:32
So it meant for the
18:33
warmest ever warmest ever
18:36
And, uh, everyone was out
18:39
Uh, and then some good
18:42
Dude, it was like, I
18:43
thought it was a great
18:45
It was very eclectic.
18:48
And, you know, sometimes
18:49
you get overwhelmed with
18:50
certain groups of cars,
18:51
modern stuff, et cetera.
18:53
And, uh, it kind of had
18:54
a little bit of everything,
18:55
some familiar faces,
18:57
some people we haven't
18:59
And then, uh, B line
19:01
They got a new tent,
19:02
which I'm sure you were
19:04
I was responsible for that.
19:09
Hey, he's just jumping in it.
19:11
We're, uh, we're talking
19:13
So you can just, you know,
19:14
collect your thoughts.
19:16
You know, you want to add
19:19
Um, anyways, B line
19:20
stepped it up newer, uh,
19:24
space, as they say.
19:32
Did you have, did you
19:33
look at cars at all?
19:34
Or you just kind of
19:35
talked to folks because that's
19:36
what you end up kind of
19:37
a lot of standing around
19:39
I did look at a car that I
19:41
Oh, that thing is really cool.
19:43
I mean, I've already known
19:45
about it and I've meant to
19:46
like go look at it before
19:48
a buddy Mitch brought a 6.9
19:51
Mercedes W 116S class in
19:54
brown metallic over
20:00
It's a Euro spec 6.9.
20:08
yeah, it's a car that he's,
20:09
he's a dealer and he's,
20:10
you know, ultimately going
20:12
Uh, it is not perfect,
20:15
It has a lot of like paint.
20:16
It's like perfectly
20:18
And I would probably fix
20:19
like there's a dent on the
20:23
in a corner and you'd
20:25
professionally fixed.
20:27
it would need to be
20:29
And I would probably have
20:30
that done because the car
20:32
And I think that's okay
20:33
because the paint is,
20:34
it's been repainted ones for
20:36
And it has some like
20:37
little blemishes here and
20:39
Yeah, you're right.
20:40
That, that's the one thing,
20:41
but it's got it's on the
20:45
It's on chrome centros
20:47
it has like the cheesy
20:48
80s wood steering wheel
20:50
it's a sport line wheel
20:51
from like the Mercedes
20:52
aftermarket magazine.
20:54
That would go immediately.
20:59
Just not right for the
21:01
It was added later,
21:02
but the scary cars,
21:07
and they can be really
21:09
but this one looks like
21:16
I don't think it's just
21:19
there's a conversation to
21:24
but it's another car
21:25
that I've looked at
21:29
So it's got the good
21:34
And it has more power
21:35
because it's a euro.
21:38
that's the most powerful motor.
21:39
Like that was the best car
21:40
that Mercedes could build
21:43
it wasn't the fastest car
21:47
Certainly the most powerful.
21:55
Warren showed it to me.
21:56
I think he had just
21:57
received the pictures
21:58
and we're up in Seattle.
22:01
I didn't know that you hadn't
22:04
did he throw a number at you
22:05
yet or are you still
22:06
need to talk to me?
22:07
I know what he bought it for.
22:12
if I just throw on this
22:15
not even bring a trailer,
22:16
but like this other like
22:18
like he could just be done
22:19
with it and it's gone
22:20
and make some money.
22:22
usually how he does it.
22:24
he's selling 200 cars a
22:28
But I could talk to him.
22:29
Like the type to just throw
22:30
the keys and be like,
22:35
see if it's a fit one cool
22:37
which I forgot about
22:38
and I have seen this
22:40
I think they might have done
22:42
but power rear bench,
22:43
the whole bench slides
22:47
angles down a little
22:49
Silent power operation.
22:52
That sketch because
22:53
you know how like a lot
22:54
of the locks and stuff
22:55
are hydraulic, right?
22:56
Just little diaphragms
22:57
that they have been
22:58
I think in the 116,
23:01
And it's got a control box
23:02
in the engine bay that
23:06
that's a good question.
23:07
Like I don't know what
23:09
It's probably silent.
23:11
Just such a weird feature
23:14
I didn't know you had like,
23:15
I didn't know he had,
23:16
you had talked to him
23:18
I know your friends
23:20
But he was showing me
23:28
like he has these things.
23:29
That's just my daily driver.
23:33
he hasn't drive like far.
23:34
Like this would be such
23:35
a rad little like great.
23:36
I know I need to like
23:37
talk to my Katadi because
23:38
he owned one for a while
23:39
and and rehabbed one.
23:41
And I think that'd be
23:42
a good reality check
23:43
because all I know about
23:44
them is that they're,
23:49
Mercedes Pullman style
23:52
Those are those are
23:53
hydraulic window operation
23:56
hydraulic like locks
23:57
and really sketchy.
23:59
And then on top of all
24:01
the trim and, you know,
24:02
rust and all that stuff.
24:03
I mean, the good thing about
24:04
this car does look like
24:05
it's just been someone,
24:06
it was someone's like car
24:08
and they really kept it nice.
24:10
Like it's a nice driver.
24:12
It's got an interesting
24:14
As opposed to like car
24:15
that's just been sitting
24:16
for years and rotting out.
24:17
Like everything looked
24:18
pretty not good on it.
24:20
That interior looked,
24:21
it looked like it was
24:22
in a garage and just
24:24
Interior looks great.
24:25
So killer on those.
24:26
It's a really cool little
24:27
tiny, perfect dashboard.
24:29
It's the classic low sill.
24:31
you sit up a little high.
24:32
It's got a lot of presence.
24:35
It's a, it's a great car.
24:38
stay tuned to the driving awesome
24:40
It's also a good place
24:42
And I feel like if,
24:43
if you do still want,
24:45
to go after that our 107
24:47
this is a car that could be
24:48
traded towards that or,
24:51
it can sell and buy.
24:53
I think you'll do well there
24:57
but I feel like they're,
24:58
they're everywhere.
24:59
Like they're way more common.
25:00
This is actually like a pretty
25:03
And I have a notification
25:04
on bring a trailer for all
25:05
the 107s being listed.
25:07
It's like three a week
25:08
or something that get posted
25:09
and sometimes more.
25:10
So a lot of those are like
25:12
really low mileage,
25:13
like collector grade examples
25:15
But what I'm looking for
25:21
That's what I'm kind of
25:23
That we don't have a.
25:26
Now it's going to affect
25:27
any values or change anything.
25:29
It's completely dead,
25:30
completely dead as far as I know.
25:32
I don't even think it's like.
25:34
I watched the YouTube video about it.
25:36
Apparently it's not dead,
25:38
but it's like sitting in purgatory
25:39
forever where laws just go to die
25:41
and like whether or not it gets
25:43
pulled back out is the question.
25:47
but as of right now,
25:48
it's not going anywhere.
25:52
I had no hopes to be honest,
25:54
it was one of those like where you,
25:55
you buy a lottery ticket
25:56
and you're like, well,
25:57
maybe I didn't have hopes,
26:01
but then it had a little steam.
26:04
but I never really,
26:05
I never thought it was going to happen.
26:08
but you weren't dreaming.
26:11
but I wasn't steaming.
26:16
perfect car by the way,
26:17
a 1980 Mercedes to have that
26:22
like all of a sudden it's 6.9.
26:25
Just a rat's nest of air.
26:31
big exhaust catalytic converters
26:35
At least it's cats.
26:38
That car is super cool though.
26:40
That was definitely a standout.
26:42
Did you just talk to people?
26:43
I saw you taking pictures.
26:44
I took some photos,
26:45
but that was definitely a standout, dude.
26:49
there's a lot of stuff I saw.
26:51
There was a nice Porsche speedster.
26:53
Dude, there was two.
26:55
Two real speedsters.
26:59
There was a cool synchro vanagin double cab.
27:04
There was that dude
27:05
that always does those crazy builds.
27:07
He had that Volkswagen bus
27:09
with the Subaru engine
27:10
with a little turbo on it.
27:12
And it was dropped to the floor.
27:13
Dropped to the ground.
27:15
I think it was on air.
27:18
it was not going in and out of the driveway.
27:21
he wasn't using it.
27:23
that also has that like crazy T-bird.
27:27
he does these crazy builds.
27:29
Reuben was there in his dialed Evo,
27:32
which I don't know,
27:33
Evo 75 or whatever they're called.
27:40
Can we just come up with a new name?
27:42
Once he gets to like,
27:43
what are we going to do?
27:45
I mean, they're done.
27:46
It only went to 10.
27:49
Now they're like a hatchback.
27:50
Now they're like a,
27:51
I mean, now they're like an SUV or something.
27:54
He said it's very dialed.
27:56
Evo 9s are super rad.
27:58
It's like that and a five are my favorite.
28:00
Those are really good.
28:01
What about the nine?
28:04
What about the eight?
28:10
they have that really weird soft front end
28:11
with like the curvy headlights.
28:13
and like the five is like aggressive,
28:17
Which was the mirage,
28:18
the five or the four?
28:21
they're all based on.
28:22
I mean, it's the same thing,
28:23
but the one that you're talking about.
28:26
the four is what we got as the mirage here.
28:29
Like we got the front end looks the same.
28:32
And which one is the Tommy Mackinen?
28:36
It's I think it's a sorry in the half.
28:46
Like it has like the really big fog lights and the six is
28:49
Like it's got like a the details.
28:56
I'm looking at the photos and.
28:58
I'm saying that I finally I'm getting a good look at the
29:01
steering wheel and I agree with Warren like no,
29:11
I would change it first thing.
29:12
I'm just saying it was definitely one of those things.
29:17
I'm going to replace it.
29:18
It was like the coolest thing,
29:19
but that was in auto motion magazine.
29:22
That was in the auto motion catalog for Mercedes.
29:24
That's supposed to be in a 300 CE.
29:27
Like lowered with Ram.
29:30
A VIP style or whatever.
29:32
That ain't for a six point nine.
29:33
You could display it on the bench seat,
29:36
just like in a case.
29:41
The six point nine would look like if you're going to do
29:43
something like that.
29:50
Or even like if they made a big AMG wheel,
29:52
I had a little patina to it.
30:03
there was just a bunch of cool.
30:04
Like it was just very like a lot of the lineups you saw
30:10
There was like a hot rod and then it was next to a
30:13
like a Volkswagen Jetta next to a,
30:19
something like that.
30:20
So it was a good turnout.
30:23
356 guys like to stick together, dude.
30:26
And the Alpha guys.
30:31
how have you not mentioned that your favorite car was
30:36
Z eight was there next to a Viper.
30:38
Pretty good pairing.
30:39
Quite a few people asked me about the Z eight,
30:46
Lane's a notoriously a fan.
30:52
I think that it's like often compared to like,
30:59
it's like a German Viper type car.
31:01
So it's kind of an interesting pairing.
31:03
I think they cruise together too.
31:07
He was a young guy on the Z eight.
31:09
It was not a typical demo for that car.
31:17
And then we received a gift.
31:21
Oh, and you got one too, dude.
31:23
I would have known you were coming.
31:24
I would have left it for you.
31:29
our friends from rallies and just life itself,
31:32
made an appearance at morning motors.
31:34
They came all the way down from the East Bay.
31:36
Banned in their children.
31:37
Banned in their children.
31:38
I don't know if they survived,
31:39
but that's not important here.
31:43
I have a gift for you.
31:44
And I was like, oh cool.
31:45
And so we walked over to her car
31:47
and out comes a board game.
31:49
And I don't know anything about a car board game.
31:52
Well, it's a guess who the classic guess who board game with all the faces
31:58
customized to driving while awesome community members.
32:04
And there's like one of these games.
32:05
So each game has two, two of the boards.
32:08
So you'd play with the flippie Lynn face to face.
32:10
And she made three sets, one for each of us.
32:15
And like how many pictures it was like,
32:19
I mean, it's probably like 30, 40 photos per board,
32:23
but more than that,
32:24
because it's like different pictures of each person.
32:28
And she said that it took her an insane amount of time
32:30
stocking everyone online.
32:33
It's pictures of Peter B and Drew and you know,
32:39
even some infamous people that we run across.
32:44
Like what's his name?
32:47
I travel guy, but no, it's not him.
32:50
It's like, well, it says I travel
32:53
and it's like a random picture of a dude.
32:56
That's so cool, man.
32:57
It's pretty unbelievable.
32:59
If you're listening, you're amazing.
33:03
And Jay had nothing to do with it.
33:04
So he just sat there and smile and nodded.
33:07
I'm sure he's like, are you going to make dinner
33:09
or work on the guess your game?
33:10
And she's like, well, you know my choice.
33:12
She's like, you make dinner bitch.
33:16
And we had a little after hang at a humble sea
33:20
and then lunch at the barbecue spot.
33:22
It was just a great little hang.
33:24
It was a good, good day for sure.
33:27
It was a nice day too.
33:28
Oh, and I got another gift too.
33:30
Rob Saldessie gave me a, um, this little like,
33:35
it's this little framed like tiny dude, like,
33:38
like five by seven framed in glass,
33:42
like a, like a real frame of a portion,
33:47
And it's all made out of like watch parts.
33:51
It's like the face of a watch for like the rules.
33:54
Like the hands of the watch to make like the lines
34:00
That's a good gift for Lane.
34:02
And I don't know where he said he got it from like a custom,
34:04
like one of it, you know, he installs like blinds and shades
34:09
And he got it from someone and he's had it forever to give
34:14
So it was like an art piece that was someone had like
34:22
I wonder, yeah, if it's like buying a special artist
34:24
or just some tweaker.
34:26
It's Barrett Jackson 1974.
34:30
It was right next to the Navajo blankets and the patio
34:37
It's like small and almost like classy in a way.
34:45
What else is going on?
34:48
So you're my car up there.
34:49
Is it what do you see?
34:50
What do you see if you look over that wall there?
34:56
Oh, just collecting dust.
34:58
No, it's like collecting dust.
34:59
It's just chilling.
35:00
It's right in front of this.
35:03
Yesterday I saw it in front of like the main place.
35:05
And then today it's cool.
35:07
Yeah, they're on it.
35:09
I spoke with Reese yesterday and he was kind of going
35:11
through the checklist of stuff and they had it
35:13
on the lift already once.
35:14
So yeah, they're basically going through the motions
35:17
and you all repeat it for those who haven't heard.
35:20
But so we're quieting it down.
35:22
They're doing some exhaust work.
35:24
They're having the throttle position sensor recalibrated
35:27
because it's screwed up right now.
35:29
It thinks that 4% open is zero and that's where it starts.
35:33
So you have nothing and then you have, you know,
35:36
where the throttle is actually physically open
35:38
and then it thinks that zero,
35:40
which makes for a really jerky driving experience.
35:44
At least, you know,
35:45
not when you're in steady state on the freeway,
35:47
but just to get around town.
35:49
Very fun time by the way in traffic.
35:51
I was just going to ask you how did that work out?
35:55
So the worst, dude, that must be,
35:57
were you just letting your clutch out?
35:59
So what I do is I go,
36:01
I blip the throttle with the clutch in and then I let out
36:04
right a little bit beyond the 4% and then I feather it.
36:08
Like it's the whole thing.
36:09
The best part of the entire trip was going up Salinas Road
36:13
that up to the stop sign and there was like,
36:17
12 cars in line, dude.
36:19
And I was all fucking big.
36:22
Those are the times you're like,
36:24
I don't know if I can do this.
36:26
I'm going to pass everyone on the shoulder
36:28
and just be the most illegal dude ever.
36:31
I actually thought of doing that and going down the hill
36:33
and coming back around because it was not good.
36:35
And I will admit, so for the future owner of this vehicle,
36:39
because you know this is my forever car
36:41
that I'll eventually sell.
36:43
I did smell some clutch.
36:45
It's a newer clutch.
36:47
That's a service item.
36:50
So yeah, we're going back to the...
36:52
So we are the throttle position sensor.
36:55
We talked about this before, but is that it like went out of spec
37:00
because it was fine before or how does that?
37:04
So it went out of spec because I disassembled the throttle body
37:06
to fix an issue with the throttle plate.
37:09
So this is a throttle body that was made by K-Power Industries
37:13
specifically for these swaps
37:15
because the orientation is different than like the
37:17
front-wheel drive setup.
37:19
So anyways, it's a known issue now that you have to dremel
37:24
around the throttle plate a little bit on the throttle body
37:27
and actually the throttle plate itself,
37:29
you have to machine a little tiny bit like sand
37:32
like half of a millimeter off all the way around
37:35
because it was binding on the throttle body itself.
37:39
And so anyways, I did all of that
37:42
and so I had to take it all apart.
37:44
And then when I put it back together,
37:45
I recalibrated the TPS with the resistance necessary
37:50
But the issue is that now it's out of spec with the Hawn data
37:55
because it's running a piggyback system.
37:57
Like it's kind of like a standalone.
37:59
And so it needs to be recalibrated to where zero is
38:03
because it doesn't know where that is.
38:05
So that's what needs to be done.
38:06
There is a process.
38:07
It's not very difficult.
38:09
Like it's just, you literally, you close the throttle plate,
38:12
you tell the, you're on the software,
38:14
you tell it, this is what closed is,
38:16
you go open throttle all the way, you save that.
38:18
This is what open is and you upload the file to the ECU
38:22
So that's what needs to be done.
38:24
And they have the software there to do it.
38:28
And I'm getting the front end alignment double checked again
38:31
because when I was under it,
38:33
oh, I did something the other day.
38:35
When I was under it,
38:36
I saw that one of the nuts on the,
38:38
on the tie rods was actually not, you know,
38:42
they did all the paint markings on all of the suspension pieces
38:45
and it was off by about like a quarter inch.
38:48
So I don't know what happened there.
38:50
So I want them to double check that.
38:52
And then I bled my steering rack because they had,
38:56
they had left a little bit of fluid in it
38:58
to like sort of lubricate it
38:59
because it has a power steering delete setup.
39:01
And I was reading how you want like nothing in there
39:04
because like it doesn't like, you know,
39:06
the power steering fluid wasn't was lubricating the rack.
39:09
That was for, you know, to build pressure to actually assist.
39:13
So you leave like, you know, a tiny amount of fluid in there
39:16
and I bled it, I put it all back together
39:19
and it's so nice dude.
39:22
And this is with a 350.
39:24
So like the 350 millimeter steering wheel,
39:26
which is, you know, a little small.
39:28
I think I'm going to go to like a 370 or 375.
39:31
And my guy right there.
39:33
And then right there.
39:35
Now I also fix the driving around a tight parking lot
39:38
or parallel parking because that's where it sucks.
39:40
But driving around and like ripping around the hills,
39:42
it was, it was perfect.
39:44
So it was like pressurized before and making it too.
39:48
So it was, I was fighting it.
39:50
And so I noticed the reason that I actually was convinced
39:53
that this was the issue is because when you went like
39:55
beyond 90 degrees of turn,
39:57
it would build a ton of resistance.
39:59
And it was actually back.
40:02
It was like putting in and I was like forcing through that.
40:07
I'm happy because I don't have to deal with the power steering system.
40:09
I was looking at the electric one and it's like,
40:11
it's very expensive.
40:12
You know, so I mean,
40:13
bare minimum I was looking at, you know,
40:15
with the labor and everything about 3,500 bucks to get it dialed.
40:18
So, so that's nice.
40:19
That can go into something else.
40:21
So just like little stuff like that.
40:23
And, and yeah, I'm going to,
40:25
I did confirm that the motor mounts are poly.
40:27
The transmissions are rubber.
40:29
So we're going to change the polyurethane mounts to rubber
40:32
because it is buzzy as hell.
40:34
And then it should be good dude.
40:36
That's a, that's a nice list.
40:39
I'm glad you got it up here.
40:40
I was obviously noting the timeline here is getting much shorter.
40:45
We're one month out on this year rally.
40:48
And it's going to sneak up on us because you also need to like,
40:52
I don't know, get up to the car and drive it around.
40:54
Make sure it's good.
40:55
There's just, it takes time.
40:57
And this is, you know,
40:58
when I have the car now I have the, the GTI.
41:00
So I'll just drive straight there if need be, you know,
41:02
and that way like I'm not flying and then having to do a
41:04
whole thing and they're not driving it out to me.
41:05
So yeah, I'm excited.
41:07
It's a, it's, it's almost there.
41:09
And I also like as we were walking through some of these things,
41:12
like we checked off things that, you know, like,
41:14
Oh, the transmission mounts don't need to replace.
41:18
No power steering work.
41:20
So it's, it'll be a lot easier to get it out the door.
41:25
I mean, it sounds like already that power steering thing.
41:31
I like to drive it too.
41:32
I mean, I had to drive it on our last rally because it was
41:34
obviously in like still test and tune mode, but yeah.
41:38
So it'll be, it'll be great.
41:40
It would have been nice to have that AB comparison.
41:42
I mean, you could probably drive it right now.
41:44
Oh, like before the,
41:48
Get a little shitty.
41:49
Well, wait till the throttle.
41:51
Once they get the throttle position stuff fixed.
41:54
into the exhaust is a stock,
41:55
drive it with the current stocks or not stock,
41:57
but with the current exhaust,
42:00
I was behind you for a minute on the last rally.
42:04
I did drop off my car as well today.
42:06
So the M three is getting AC service.
42:10
The air conditioning is no longer cold,
42:12
which is a bummer and very needed in my opinion.
42:16
So I'll put some dye in there and recharge it and see what
42:20
It could be fine and last for another couple of years
42:22
or it might have a leak.
42:24
Probably needs everything.
42:29
And it's original and the 95s have a unique compressor system.
42:33
The hoses are backordered.
42:37
So that's the main thing.
42:40
Yearly oil change because it hasn't had one for a year.
42:44
And then a couple of other little tiny things,
42:49
but that's the main,
42:50
main deal, AC service and get the oil changed and give it a
42:53
once over because I do not have a lift at my house.
42:56
So getting eyes on things and just making sure it's all good
43:03
I have no issues with it.
43:04
I don't drive it enough.
43:05
You've been on any drives lately?
43:08
I took Andrew to lunch up to a summit store.
43:10
This is like, I don't know during his summer break.
43:13
And that's like the most drive I've done with it.
43:17
Other than like little morning motors or like,
43:20
here and back West Cliff stuff, you know,
43:22
but no, it's neglected, neglected.
43:25
I think we have a drive scheduled for possibly Thursday
43:30
Are you going to be on that?
43:34
he's so happy with this target,
43:36
he's so stoked on it,
43:37
which was great to hear.
43:38
And then I'm going to try to make that fricking 6 30 start.
43:42
Jesus Christ, dude.
43:43
I'll see if I can hold that.
43:46
then you can still work.
43:49
It's kind of nice to do that kind of stuff.
43:53
You just can't drop off kids.
43:54
So that's like the hard part.
43:59
I still need to get B line.
44:01
I could do it myself too, I guess,
44:02
but I'm going to have B line slap pads on it.
44:05
They already had ordered the pads and have them.
44:08
And then they already changed the oil,
44:10
but I need also my car has a little bit of like an issue.
44:15
I don't know what it is.
44:19
it has a little bit of like a,
44:25
When did this start?
44:28
like on couple of drives ago,
44:33
a month ago or something like that.
44:36
It might only be when it's kind of warm.
44:42
I definitely noticed it.
44:44
I feel like it's like,
44:45
when it's warm and it's like,
44:48
you feel it the most in like,
44:51
it's not when you're like steady state,
44:53
just driving the car,
44:54
but it's like first,
44:57
That's like a timing thing or something or ignition
45:03
I have no idea, dude.
45:05
it could just be a,
45:06
it could just be the plugs are fouled up or something like that.
45:13
a new bottom end or something.
45:15
Is it a crankshaft related?
45:19
maybe just a crankshaft.
45:20
Let's throw one at it.
45:25
it just has that little,
45:26
I guess it's like a,
45:27
it's not wanting to like,
45:28
zing all the way there.
45:32
and then it kind of goes,
45:33
but it's like slow to climb that last thousand RPM.
45:40
a million things, right?
45:41
I've been injectors been refreshed.
45:47
I think it'd be injectors,
45:50
Is it annoying enough to have to like deal with it?
45:53
It's not that annoying.
45:56
Like the car is still fast
45:59
but you can feel it,
46:00
but I just feel it.
46:02
it's like it's annoying.
46:03
My Vanagon does something similar
46:04
where it's like under,
46:05
right off the line,
46:06
there's like an initial amount of power
46:08
and then it like dips
46:09
for just a slight second
46:10
and then it like comes back.
46:12
And it's sort of always done,
46:13
it's done it for a long time
46:14
and it hasn't changed.
46:15
So I'm kind of just living with it.
46:17
I wouldn't even know really where,
46:18
it could be vacuum.
46:21
I mean, vacuum create like does that a lot.
46:23
Could, but you usually get worse.
46:30
I think it's worse when it's hot.
46:33
that makes me think maybe vacuum,
46:39
you know one thing's for sure,
46:40
we're not going to figure it out
46:42
That's for damn sure.
46:46
we got to cut this one a little short
46:48
because Art and I both have a call.
46:50
Are you going to join that one?
46:56
Art, are you coming to work or what?
46:58
I wouldn't say I'm missing it, Bob.
47:01
I wouldn't say I'm missing it.
47:02
I've heard it a lot lately, dude.
47:04
That's my favorite.
47:05
Oh, it's coming back.
47:08
You've been missing work a lot, Bob.
47:09
We got a couple of questions
47:11
If you guys don't mind.
47:14
I'm going to just check that out.
47:16
Literally a couple.
47:18
Andrew 4G 63 says, what's worse?
47:21
Warm toilet seat or cold toilet seat?
47:24
I love a warm toilet seat.
47:26
When it's your own.
47:29
I think he's implying not your own.
47:31
Oh, because I have a heated toilet seat at home.
47:36
It was heated at work.
47:39
Let's say at a normal work.
47:44
Cold across the board.
47:46
That's I don't want that intimacy with anybody.
47:54
I'm unless it's to a leap.
47:56
But then if it's to a leap up before me, then I'm down.
48:01
I will lick the toilet seat.
48:05
I'm like, no, it's not.
48:11
I have this vision of Warren like unscrewing the toilet.
48:17
This is my toilet seat now.
48:19
Take the whole toilet.
48:20
What are you talking about?
48:22
This is her boom boom room.
48:25
The boom boom room.
48:27
62 Roadster says any read out on how much of the route next
48:30
month has been affected by recent storm activity around
48:35
None to my knowledge.
48:37
I don't think there's been there's been some storm
48:41
Some monsoonal rains.
48:43
In fact, it was raining in the central valley yesterday or Sunday.
48:47
But no, and we're still a month out.
48:49
There's a lot of cleanup that happens and things of that nature.
48:52
I wouldn't be too worried about it.
48:54
That's all I can tell you.
49:05
Got some stats for you here.
49:07
There's been a lot of talk of AI using a lot of or producing
49:12
a lot of emissions.
49:19
It uses a lot of power.
49:21
And there's been a lot made of that, right?
49:23
So I have a list of the digital activities for typical
49:29
What is the number one digital consumption of power or
49:35
creation of emissions?
49:39
What do you think it is that people are doing?
49:42
So like not on their phone?
49:44
You mean like something very specific?
49:46
Like what what they're doing that's driving that?
49:50
It's got to be porn.
49:52
That's very personal digital activity.
49:58
No, it's at second place.
50:01
Second is number two is Internet use slash computer.
50:06
That's a 28.5 CO2s emitted per CO2 kilograms.
50:17
And so wait, so is it AI?
50:22
JPT type shit like requests is AI is 0.1.
50:30
Internet use for someone is 28.5.
50:34
AI use is 0.1 CO2 emissions or equivalent.
50:41
So AI, this is saying is not a big deal.
50:49
I think per use it probably is.
50:51
Is it a Bitcoin mining?
50:57
That's not on the list.
51:00
But I think that is very intensive.
51:05
This is like, I figured I thought you guys are going to nail this right away.
51:09
What else is there?
51:10
What else is there?
51:11
YouTube consumption.
51:13
That's that's that's the computer too.
51:14
That's that's what I'm saying.
51:16
What else is there?
51:17
Digital activities for the typical American.
51:27
The list like the graph is off the charts for television.
51:38
It's all bullshit, dude.
51:41
So it's TV viewing number one.
51:42
Internet use slash computer.
51:44
Second third digital storage.
51:46
So all of our drives and clouds and whatnot.
51:49
Video streaming computer.
51:51
So I guess that is the YouTube equivalent of things.
51:55
Then all the rest of it's like apps and app use and
51:58
surprise that's as low compared to TV.
52:00
Because TV is off the charts because like I think still all
52:04
the boomer generation TV on all the time.
52:08
Make a restaurant that says kill your television.
52:19
I also wanted to say I have some other trivia in the
52:22
how much you books consume.
52:27
How much how many how much do you have to produce those pages?
52:33
Coming out of free.
52:36
I mean, well, I was.
52:37
I think I told Warren about three books.
52:39
Don't make themselves do Toyota.
52:43
Not Toyota, but Toyota.
52:45
Akio said that he has proof that a hybrid car
52:52
is to make a hybrid car.
52:54
This from scratch is takes a third of the amount of pollution
52:59
and also impact to the environment that an electric car has.
53:03
So I mean, I make sense.
53:04
It's probably third the size of the battery.
53:06
Well, well, it's also, but I mean, even with the internal
53:09
combustion side and with everything associated with all
53:12
So like, I saw that they're they're essentially doubling
53:15
down on hybrid tech and rationalizing it because of
53:20
And I've always tended to agree with this.
53:22
It's interesting to hear that way more usable.
53:24
This is like, this is like, this is a super serious thing too,
53:27
because they had like zero emissions plants.
53:30
Zero emissions plants for the last like 20 years,
53:37
So a very efficient hybrid could be a good option.
53:43
That's a real headline.
53:45
I guess it's like, it's all environmental impact, right?
53:47
Like what it would like the way that it was the case was
53:49
being made, which is interesting.
53:56
Thank you for joining us.
53:57
We will see you next time.
