What's up, Subi fan?
This is Jonathan, aka Stage The Cross Trek, and you're listening to episode 211 on the Subian
U Podcast.

I have Jonathan on, as you just heard, and he's coming back as a returning guest 100 episodes
later.
So yeah, his first episode was 111.
He's back on episode 211.
So we've been doing this thing for a while, and it was great to have him on again, and
it was great to record with him and catch up because he used to live up in New England,
and now he lives in Austin, Texas, here in my home state.
So it was great to catch up with him and see what's changed since he has moved locations
and just what's going on in his life and his Subi life now because it's much different
than it was up there.

I know, I know, it's been a while.

Yeah, so when we recorded your episode in 2023, it was March 6th.
Well, that's when I released it.
That's not necessarily when we recorded,
but we probably recorded it at the end of February, maybe.
But yeah, your episode released Monday, March 6th, 2023,
a hundred episodes ago.
Yeah.
It's pretty crazy.
That's crazy.
It's crazy to say that a hundred episodes have gone by
because I mean, now I'm at 211.
Yeah.
And over four and a half years later, it's...
It's crazy.
Yeah.
A lot of things have changed.
Yeah, it's been great.
And I'm thankful to still be doing it.
Thankful people are still listening,
and thankful that I still have guests.
And I know one of the things that I wanted to do for this year
was get some previous guests back on,
and I've been doing that.
So that's been good.

So when we recorded the last time,
you were living in the Northeast,
and now you're living in Texas.
So what's changed?
I was living in the tiny state of Rhode Island
that nobody even knows.
So whenever someone asked me where I'm from here in Texas,
I always say I'm from Rhode Island,
and they look at me like I have 10 heads,
and I'm like 45 minutes south of Boston.
They're like, oh, okay.
So let me ask you a question.
Here we go.
Does it take about the same amount of time
to drive all the way across Austin
that it does to drive all the way across Rhode Island?
Yup.
Yeah, that's crazy.
It's such a tiny state.
You can literally, like in the middle of the night,
you can literally go from the top of Rhode Island
to the bottom of Rhode Island in 30, 45 minutes.
That says nobody on the highway,
and you don't care about how fast you're going,
and cops, you can just folks.
45 minutes, you're from one end to the other.
That's crazy because in Houston,
in the middle of the night,
there's nobody on the freeway.
It takes probably an hour or more
to get from one side of Houston to the other,
like proper Houston city limits
from one end to the other.
Yeah, that's funny.
Yes, that's nuts.
It's crazy.
What has the transition been like for you
moving from all the way up there to Austin?
Because that's a pretty big change.
First of all, it's not like you're just moving
from somewhere else in New England.
You're moving to like the central part of the U.S.
in the second biggest state in the U.S.
And a pretty cool city.
Yeah, Austin's not bad.
I've only been here for just over a year,
and I haven't really explored much of the city.
Only because it just takes so long
that from one place to the other,
because traffic's crazy.
Not to say that traffic in Boston and New York isn't crazy,
because the traffic that's on 35 going through Austin
is nothing compared to what happens on 95 in New York
and in Boston.
But it's...
By the time you figure out,
oh, you have a reservation at a restaurant for 7 p.m.,
at like 4.30, 5 o'clock.
Yeah.
Because there's gonna be traffic.
Are you talking about up there?
No, here.
Oh, wow.
I don't know.
I don't live in Austin, so I don't know how bad it is, but...
No, it just gets...
I'm exaggerating.
Yeah.
But it's just...
I know what you mean.
It's just crazy how sometimes you just don't move.
And it's just like, why?
And it's just because two people,
it just squeezes from a four lane down to a two lane,
because of construction.
And two people decided that they wanted to do 20 miles an hour.
Yeah.
It can be annoying.
Yeah.
But the transition, it's been nice.
It's the heat.
It's the normal New England August heat,
that heat wave temperature that you get
in like high 90s to low 100s.
But that's all here.
It's from...
Yeah, it's longer.
It's longer.
Instead of just having like a one or two weeks,
like it happens in New England,
it's like months of that.
So I'm still trying to get used to that.
Welcome to Texas.
It's not, but other than that,
I'm loving it.
I bought my first pair of cowboy boots.
Nice.
Nice.
You know what's funny is,
I've lived in Texas my entire life,
never owned a pair of cowboy boots.
They're just not my thing.
I never have and I never will.
Yeah.
I only wear them once a week maybe.
I wear them to work and that's about it.
Yeah.
I've heard people say that they're comfortable,
but I just...
That's great.
They're just not me.
Surprisingly, they are comfortable.
Yeah.
And I'll stand and I'll work on my feet all day
in the cowboy boots.
Oh, my God, pretty comfortable.
That's good.
But going back to the transition,
yeah, no, it's been fun.
Definitely the car scene here
is completely different than New England.
Yeah, we've talked some before
about how you're driving around
in the only built-up cross-track
and probably in all of Austin.
Yeah.
Yeah, there's probably lifted ones
with alterings and method wheels
and stuff like that,
but not lifted to where I am
and lights and body armor
and all that stuff on it.
So I do get the looks
and it's sometimes...
To me, it's funny because I get the looks
from the lifted Jeep guys
and Tacoma guys
and all the lifted construction Tup guys
and they look at me just going down the highway
and doing an 85 on the toll roads
in the lifted cross-track
and I'm like, bye.
Yeah, exactly.
So other than the transition moving here,
what has it been like as far as...
Because were you doing a decent amount of off-roading
and meeting up with people up there
and then now that not having that here,
what is that like?
Yeah, like up back home it was...
We were going sometimes twice a month.
Sometimes twice a month.
It all depended on like, hey,
you guys want to hit the trails.
Yeah, let's go.
And it's randomly...
Sometimes we wouldn't even hold an event.
We would just send the text messages
to a couple guys, hey, you want to go hit the trails?
And they're like, yep, let's go.
Here it's...
There are no trails, first of all.
Yeah, here are no trails.
Yes, it does suck.
You feel my pain now.
Yes, exactly.
I unfortunately, like you said,
in the Scooby Scoob,
Bastrop pretty much got closed down.
So we can't go there anymore.
We can, but at risk and it's not worth it.
It's not worth anything, but it's not worth the risk.
But yeah, I was only able to take my car twice onto Bastrop.
Yeah.
The one time that we went and then back in March,
which is the last time I went.
And Bastrop is a decent spot.
I mean, it's got some technical stuff in there.
And it's not very far away from us,
like a little over an hour and a half, but it's just...
Yeah, I'm 45-ish minutes away from it.
Okay, are you Northern Austin?
Yeah, yeah.
Okay, yeah.
I'm a great major manor.
So if I take 290, I go into Houston.
Okay, yeah, so, yeah, I mean,
Bastrop was, it was nice.
I think I've been out there maybe like 5 or 6 times
and I kept wanting to go more.
It was just one of those things where I had other stuff going on
or I just wouldn't think about it.
And then, so there's up and near,
it's kind of like more on the,
it's in between Dallas and Fort Worth,
but more on the Fort Worth side,
there's a place called Bridgeport
and there's an off-road trail
or an off-road park there,
which you have to pay for
even that much.
I think it's like 25 bucks for the day or something.
Yeah.
But it's, you know, it's fun.
It's worth it, but it's just, it's far.
But yeah, but you guys,
you would have to drive all the way out to
like the Fort Worth area.
Yeah, I mean, for me,
that's like a four and a half hour drive
to go off-roading in a spot
that I'm actually allowed to go off-roading in.
And just meet off-road for that day
and then go back home kind of thing.
Yep.
Yeah.
So right, so right now like,
right now,
so
it's been, yeah, so it's been hard
trying to find places to go to off-roading.
We just had Bastrop that unfortunately
it's not worth the risk anymore.
And then there's, there's Hidden Falls,
which I believe you spoke about before.
Yeah.
There's a new place called
Domo Motorsports
that I'm actually trying
to work with
to set up events there.
And then there's a couple other places.
There's like rally ready,
but it's more like rally kind of stuff.
Yeah.
You can drive your own car there,
but it's like a hundred bucks to go rally on there.
Because it's not like,
it's not designed for like,
hey, let's just go off-roading for the day.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And then there's,
there is a place in like southern,
in like the southern part of San Antonio
that I just found out about
that
and see if they're interested in hosting
like small off-roading events
because you can go there for like the day
and it's only like
25 bucks, 30 bucks kind of thing.
Yeah.
It's only an hour and a half away from me, south.
That's not bad.
Yeah.
Like Hidden Falls and Domo Motorsports,
they're both
about between an hour to hour,
hour and a half from me.
And that's going north from me.
Just trying to figure out
where to go
when it comes to like off-roading now.
Yeah.
Hidden Falls, I've never been out there,
but even years ago,
when I first started hearing about it from people,
they were saying that
the easier courses,
like the ones are like
even kind of getting rotted out and stuff.
Yeah.
That's not hard.
They're getting really washed up.
Yeah.
It's not as
Subaru friendly as it used to be.
Yeah.
There's a park,
and I forgot the name of it,
but it's north of Houston,
up 59
and it's about an hour and a half from me.
And it's the very first place
that I took Pearl off-road.
I remember,
I remember,
I think that was the first episode I listened
when you were talking about that.
Yeah.
So they were like,
they were like,
are you sure you might get stuck?
Yep.
I pulled up to the gate
and the guy was kind of looking at my car
and I think I asked him like,
is it okay if I go in there
with, you know,
my car the way it is?
He said,
I've been told not to turn anybody away.
He said some Mercedes had gone in there
and he said a Mercedes SUV
had gone in there
that was all-wheel drive
and tore it up
and did totally fine
and had a good time.
So that was before anything.
I had nothing.
It was 100% stock.
I think I had my car
for like three weeks.
I didn't even have any decals on it.
And she did great.
You know,
no airing down the tires
and I went through sand
and I was getting a little nervous
about that because
I think it was,
well, it was some time before that.
I watched where 4x4
Subi had gone out to some sand dunes
and aired down his tire,
had all-terrain tires
and got stuck in sand.
And I'm like,
I was thinking about that the entire time.
I'm like, man,
I really hope I don't get stuck
because I don't really have a way to get out.
Yeah.
No.
Yeah.
I had Luke with me
and just went out there driving
and just,
I didn't go too far into the park.
I think there was,
like now I would be more,
you know,
brave enough,
smart enough
and know enough about my car
and capabilities and everything
that I could go further out
into the park
and do some exploring.
But I didn't go too far in there
but I had fun.
And that's something
that I've been wanting to do too
is get some people together
and look at that park again
and say,
hey, let's all go meet up there
and air down our tires
and go have some fun.
And I think it was only,
like, 30 bucks for the day.
So it wasn't bad.
Oh, it's not bad.
No.
Yeah, that's not bad.
Yeah, the Doma Motor Sports one,
that's actually,
it's only,
I want to say it's like
30 or 45 bucks
and then you can camp there.
Oh, that's good.
Yeah.
Yeah, so you can go there
like Saturday morning,
set up camp off-road all day.
Go back to camp.
You can off-road at night.
You can do the trails at night.
Have certain trails
that you can do at night
and then
pack up
and you can still do trails the next day
and then just leave.
Nice.
Yeah, man.
See if you can secure that.
That'd be great.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
So from the time that you
have been here,
what else have you done with Sage?
What have you changed?
What have you added?
What's going on with Sage now?
With Sage,
she hasn't really gotten much.
All that I've really done was
I got rid of the
the Falcon Wild Peaks.
That's what I thought.
Yeah, you've got different tires.
Yeah, now I have
some
no-name brand
tire company from like Taiwan.
They're called the Celera.
And the brand is called the
Celera A-C-C-E-L-R-A.
And then the model of the tire are
they're Ami...
Ami...
Amicrons?
Amicrons?
O-M-I-K-R-O-N.
And they're cross-train tires.
They're 8-ply,
super, super grippy,
knobby tires,
like the Texas Mud Clay
stuff that's here.
Yeah.
Does not get stuck in those
tire threads at all.
Wow.
It spits it out.
Yeah.
It's crazy how
how nice the tire threads are.
And the only reason why I got those tires
is because I went to
a cars and coffee
event here
at
the
four-wheel parts store here in Austin.
And a couple of Jeep guys were there
and I was talking to them
and they asked me
what car it had,
so we walked over to Sage
and they were talking
and
I was talking about
wanting to upgrade tires
and get better tires.
And then they told me they're like,
oh, check out these tires.
We run them.
We love them.
They're super grippy.
They're perfect for the
frame here in Texas with the
Clay Mud.
And they're like
for your car, they're gonna be perfect
because they'll help you get up
like deeper inclines
than what you could before with these.
I was like, alright, I'll give them a try
and they
they only make
the smallest size they make is a 16.
So I got
I got the
Cross-Tex Sport Wheels.
So I got 17s.
And I think they cost
they were under a hundred bucks each.
Wow.
Yeah, that was what I was wondering because
I know that
when I bought my first set
of Toyos they were
like 125 and then
when I bought my second set
they were 165 and I was like
this is crazy because I only
I had a full-size spare that
because I had a flat and I got a
new spare and I because I had the new spare
I didn't wasn't rotating
it through my tires anymore.
So I'm like I'm just gonna keep it up here
until I get a new set and then when I get
a new set I'll start rotating it through
and never ended up doing that but
so I only had to buy four tires and it was
still like 950 bucks for the four
tires and that's what I paid the last
time for five. I was like, man, this is
crazy. Yeah,
and like I said they make
smallest one I made is a 16
I make a 17, 18, I think
they go up to a 20.
For like the bigger trucks and stuff like that.
Yeah. They're 8-by.
I'm gonna, I'm not

I'm gonna leave a link to where I got the

like if you're running
like
the new cross-track, the new cross-track
wilderness that you can't go
to a 7, you can't get a
16, 15 you can go I think
16 probably without
changing the brakes around.
But if you want to stick with the 17s
you can get this tire and
they fit perfectly. They fit in
they
will also fit in the
wheel well for
lifted
VA and the VVWRX
they will also fit in there.
Oh, nice. Yeah, so
they're perfect and you might have to
cut a little bit of the
bottoms of the bumpers
to make them fit. Okay.
But other than that they'll fit perfect
in the WRXs.
That's if you don't
if you don't want to go down to a
15. Yeah.
And then
the only other thing I got
was a transmission cooler.
I put that in
last year.
Okay. I installed a
transmission cooler, made a
world of a difference here in Texas with the heat.
Yeah.
So what you
mentioned cars and coffees, how many of those
have you been going to? Because I know you post some
and I'm like, oh, I would love
to go out there, but it's like at 8 a.m.
I'm like, yeah.
I'm not going to get up and
to be there. Every single
cars and coffees event, I always start at 8 a.m.
in the morning, like 8 in the morning
and I'm like, just make them start
a little bit later. But I
guess it's smart to start
in here in Texas early
because you don't want to be in the
heat in the meantime
because they usually die out, like between
like 10 and 11, they'll die out
the cars and coffees events.
Yeah. And that's, the temperature's not
as unbearable then.
Yeah. It's a little more manageable.
The last couple of days
I've been in the 60s in the morning.
It's been so nice. Yeah.
I'm like, yes. And then I get out of work
and it's 100 degrees. Yeah.
I know that that's the thing that sucks is like
the day will start off beautiful
and cool and a nice breeze
and low humidity and
this feels so good.
And like you said, the end of the day
after work, you get outside and it's
like upper 90s, the humidity
has gone up and you're like
what happened to that beautiful weather
this morning? Like right now it's
8.30 and
it's still said it's 85 degrees
outside here in Austin. Yeah.
I have no doubt it's
about the same here too.
Yeah.
It's wack.
I get the funny looks in the winter
time because I'll go outside
with shorts on.
Yeah. I know that's
because like I get cold really easily.
I guess maybe I got that from my mom
shorts on.
Yeah. It looks like
it'll get down to like 70
and I'm putting a hoodie on not
necessarily because I'm cold, but like
usually it'll be
the slight bit of chill
and a little bit of wind and
I just I love hoodies and so
I'm like any excuse to wear a hoodie
I'm going to do it. Same. Same.
My wife keeps the temperature
at like 69.
Yeah, that's insane.
Like at like 8 o'clock I'll do a hoodie on.
Yeah. That's just crazy
right there.
I mean I keep mine at 72 so
it's not too far off
but I remember going to my step brother's
house because they wanted me to house it
and I walk in and I'm like
man what is this a refrigerator or something
and I go over to this
thermostat and it's at 69 and I'm like
this is just crazy. I didn't turn it up
but maybe I turned it up while
I was there because I'm like I'm not doing
this. Yeah.
No way.
Well, since we have
we have three dogs.
Oh, okay. And we have four cats.
So. Geez.
Wow. Yeah.
Our third dog
was
a Walmart dog.
We literally got her
walking out of Walmart here in Texas.
Really? Just kind of wandered over to you?
No, out of our local Walmart.
We were walking out of our local Walmart.
It was
alright, so let me backtrack.
Okay. So December of last
year I
got my hip replaced, my left hip replaced.
So I was out of work
until
like
beginning of February.
In January, my wife and I
were at our local Walmart and we were leaving
and I was waiting for her at the doors
for her to bring her car up to the door
for me to get in. Yeah. As I'm getting
in, a red pickle truck
cuts her off
the front and just stops
and two people get out of the car and we're like
oh crap. And they walk to the
back of the pickle truck to the back
doors and they take out a crate
full of puppies.

They were like, okay, the puppies are
free. We're like, what? And I'm in
the car already. My wife's going around
the truck and the lady's like, free
puppies? My wife goes, are they really for free?
And the lady goes, yes.
And before my wife could even say
John, can we look at them?
I was already out the car
walking without a walker
because I was less than
a month out of surgery.
Geez. Boy, that puppy love, man.
Yep.
And now she's
a Chihuahua mix, but she's
mostly
Australian cattle dog. So she has
that ferocious
like
like hurting
kind of attitude
to her. Oh yeah. Like a hurting dog.
So when we take her out,
she's constantly biting the ankles
of the other two pit bulls.
She's biting their ankles
starting fights with them outside.
And I'm like, you are the little dog
trying to fight two big dogs.
Yeah. So do you
all three of your dogs and all four
of your cats, do they all intermingle
and are chill with each other?
Yeah. They all get along with each other.
That's great. Yeah.
Yeah. We got all four cats
were COVID cats.
We got them during COVID.
Okay.
Our oldest pit bull Ace
he
we got him
the August before COVID hit.
Okay. We got him.
So he was there
for when we got all four cats
as kittens.
So he pretty much raised the kittens
the whole time. That's cool.
Yeah. And then our other pit bull
my wife named her
after my car.

Ace also
raised her also.
So they all have
part of
Ace in them because of the way he raised them.

bought tickets last year

paid for the ticket for the show
and then life happened
so I had to cancel going
to CBFest last year.

I was going up there

Everybody like the people
that I know here in the Subaru community
down here in Texas, they
knew I was going up there but they didn't know

I was going up there. They knew
because my brother lives in Connecticut
and we have friends and family
that live in Rhode Island and stuff like that.
So I was like, oh yeah this
weekend I can't wait.
I'm going up next weekend to
visit some family and friends
and stuff like that. We haven't seen them in over a year.
So then
literally only people
that knew
that I was going from
back home
for Wicked Big Meat was
Brentman, BPM
Extract and then
Nick
from South Coast Trek.
Those are the only two guys
that knew I was going
and
I surprised

at the Suvi Fest, the pre-meat
at Suvi Mons
I showed up there
on that Saturday and it was
raining. It was like
pouring rain that whole morning
like the night before to that morning it was
raining and it was like
overcast and it was like crappy weather
like show weather.
It sucked for like a car meet
the weather.
But it was packed. That whole parking lot
was packed with cars. Everybody showed up
for that.
Bucky was there. Bucky was walking around
saying hi to everybody.

they were raffled off
goody bags
and skateboard deck and a bunch of other stuff.
Very nice.
But yeah, so I
showed up. I let
Brennan know I was in constant communication
with Brennan trying to figure out where they were
so when I got there
I parked my rental
which sucked. It was a Ford F-150
which

get to why it sucked
before I
get to the part where I ended up at
Wicked Big Meet.
So when I get there
because it's not a Subaru first of all
but go on.
That's the biggest thing that sucked
about it.

when I got there

Sam the Wandering Claws
and he was there with

and then we were walking around talking and then we were
trying to find Sam
and they're like alright
I think I saw Sam so he's walking back to his car
so I
was there with like a rain
jacket and like a hat
so I just put the hood on
with the rain jacket and I just looked like the killer
like the serial killer from like I know what you did
the last summer just walking around
yeah
and then I come up behind Sam and I scare him
and he's like oh my
what are you doing here and I'm like
we gave a big hug and everything
and just hung out talk the whole time
and then
left there
stopped at Walmart
grabbed some hot dogs and burgers and stuff like that
for everybody at the campsite
and then went to the campsite
that everybody was staying at that
adventure one was staying at
and
I drove they had two campsites
taken so I drove
past the first one
and I kept going up the hill to the second campsite
and
the first
thing that made me upset
with the F-150
I had it in four
in four low
and it still got stuck in the mud
it's not a Subaru
it got stuck in the mud
going into the campsite
so I'm driving
into the campsite
so what I'm going to read now
is a quote from
one of the guys that was there
at the campsite
which is Adam who goes by
Transformer traffic
so I asked him
I was like
how surprised are you guys when you saw me
he goes
seeing some random white Ford truck
pull up to the campsite and immediately get stuck
in the mud was the best possible entrance
for you
oh man that's awesome
because we both know
we've literally gone right through that
without any effort at all
and I was like yep
oh yeah
I mean any time I go
through mud
a lot of times
there will be a big spot
of mud
where it's just all around me
and I'll just go and stop in the middle of it
and then I'll start driving
it just goes right through it

all the time even though it's like I know it's going to do it
I'd still do that
I'll stop in the middle of the mud
and then I'll start driving and it just goes
it's crazy but it's awesome
and then he goes on to saying that
they were all standing there wondering
who this random person
that is spitting up mud from the tires
and a few seconds later
out pops my friend John
the goat
saves the cross trick without the cross trick
yep it goes
back to some backwards campsite
in Connecticut to surprise all of us
he immediately
he goes I am immediately
shocked and he starts
shouting no way
what are you doing here
that's awesome
those are some of the best surprises
oh yeah
we stayed up until
I want to say it was like midnight
that night around the campfire
and then everybody was
most of the guys were either
part of adventure ones booth
so they had to be there super early
oh yeah
or were in the car and show themselves
and had to be there super early
yeah that's tough
yeah so it was tough
but yeah the next morning
it was
super stressful for me because
I get ready
I go to start the car to go
jump in the truck
to start it
to go down to the bathrooms
to shower and everything like that
before I go to the show
truck won't start
oh my gosh
oh my god what the hell
put a jump box on it
it starts up
cool I get in the car
note the dashes off
the dash isn't working because it's a digital dash
so it's not working
I have no AC
any HVAC
functions
no radio
yep forward
no nothing
the windows
the only the rear windows went down
what did you do to this truck man
nothing I just tried starting it
you were
the truck was so upset
and distraught that it couldn't
go through the mud that it just decided
not to have anything
anything else work
that's what it was the truck was just really upset
and embarrassed
embarrassed that knowing
knowing that
all the other cars there could easily
make it through and then
he had to
be there and show up in shame
and get stuck that's what it was
so he's like screw you buddy
I'm not gonna work for you
like I wanted to show up with a pickup truck
because I didn't want an SUV or anything like that
most likely it would have been like
a little Chevy Blazer
or Equinox or whatever
so I was like no I want a pickup truck
and they're like we're all out of Tacoma
so I was like no
yeah that would have done much better

I uh
when I went to the last Overland Expo
in Colorado
I use National
and with National they have
the uh I forget what it's called
but they
oh what am I thinking
because I know they have like they have executive
they have executive so basically
so the way National works is whatever level
of car you get because there's like executive
and then there's like premium or something like that
like the higher end
and then there's another one
that's like just the normal and I can't remember
the name of it but you go and you just pick
whichever car you want
and I walked all up and down
looking to see if there were any Subaru's
because there has been one time
I rented a car
in Pennsylvania
and they had a Forester
so I'm like maybe by chance
there'll be like one random Subaru in here
and there wasn't
so I ended up getting into
a Hyundai Kona
and for some reason
like I couldn't get the
entertainment system to work
like it wouldn't read my phone it said that it was like
offline or something weird like that
what is going on this is stupid
so I got out got in
another Kona that was bright green
or like a bright like yellowish
kind of color
because I wanted to be able to see it easily
but I got in there got everything to work
and then
I showed up at Camp Subaru
and they're like what are you doing in this thing
and so like
so for the last one
I was like hey Joe is it alright
if I get a
Subaru through Turro and he was like
yeah please don't show up in another
Hyundai at the next event
like okay I'll do that
so I'm getting a cross-track
over the next boat east is nice
the place where they have it is nice I went

we got her three years ago

and no word of a lie

approached for it here in Texas
they have seen it

with holding events

when the flood happened we

we helped out
to collect donations
for the people who got hit with the flood
with the horrific
flooding that happened here in central Texas
in the hill country
so we
collected
clothes dog food
cat food water
food everything
we brought it over out to
the donation centers that
like the drop off donation centers
that were in the Kerrville area
in the hill country
we dropped all that stuff off
I
I took some stuff
and dropped it off
at the animal shelter
here in Austin only because
a lot of the animals that were in the
shelters there in the hill country
were getting transferred to San Antonio
and to Austin
just to open up spaces
for the animals that were
in the flooding
so I brought
paper towels, water, dog food, cat food
litter
and I had everything
in the back of my cross track
and everybody was waiting for the back
of the cross track to squat down
but because I have
the overload springs
from rally tech in the rear
it stayed perfectly
it stayed perfectly level
it didn't even move
yeah
and we're
working closely with
local super dealers
to set up events and everything like that
so with the community
that's great
we want to get involved
the community doesn't
see our clubs
as something bad
they see it as something good
yeah, of course
when tragedies happen
they're there to help out
we want to
when we set up
car meets and we invite the community
to come out, there's people there that show up with their little kids
we don't want
people doing donuts
or burnouts and stuff like that
so we don't let that happen
when we have the car meets
and stuff like that

one of the
black racial coffees
stores in San Antonio

me getting the news of my brother being born

they brought me off at my grandparents' house

so I was staying there for
the whole week
we get the phone call like, hey

my brother's a red-ass

service provider calls us up
hey, we have this customer so-and-so

what would be your best bit of advice
to give to someone about anything?
couple things
but with your gut
every single time
don't
don't second guess yourself
like if you think like
like can I do that?
no, I can't do it if I'm not gonna do it
no, try it, give it a try
and if you fail, you know that you failed
and you figure out what you did
and try it again
until you succeed
and then
another thing is
is
just because
someone is
just because you're blood related to someone
doesn't mean they have the best intentions for you
so always
again, go with your gut
when it comes to things
yeah, so it's like go with your gut kind of thing
it's like my best advice
that's good advice
it's important to do that too
because if you
just try something, if you fail
then you're always gonna learn something
but if you don't
try it
you never know what it could end up becoming
because it could be something
amazing that you would have never known
if you didn't just give it a try
like me, when I bought the cross track
I was like
I knew that I wanted to like lift it
and put like
bigger tires on it and what not
and everything, but then like
I was afraid of
going out and doing it
and then I met up with people
who were back home who were doing it
and I was like alright, I'm gonna do it
and like
alright, come on, do it
different obstacles and I was like no
I won't be able to do it
sometimes I would try it and I wouldn't be able to do it
and I'd go back at it from a different angle to get it
and I'd conquer that angle
so the next time I was on that same trail
I knew exactly what to do to go through it
and if it was somebody's first time doing it
I'd be like alright, hey, on this part
of this obstacle, go left
now you know, so then you learn
then you can help somebody else
exactly, and especially
in like the off road community
a lot of people gate keep
don't be a gate keeper
don't, like someone ask for advice
or like, hey
what
lift do you recommend
what tires, whatever
don't be like oh
find out yourself or whatever, you know
don't gate keep stuff like that
like if you
like different
just be nice
to the people
because you never know when you're going to need the help also
yeah, kindness is always good
yeah
hey man, well thanks for hopping on

and it's just it's tough

so we were talking about like going out
there to visit and kind of making like a weekend
kind of trip
