03:22
Oh no, oh no, oh no, although it's kind of so bad that it's good in a way.
03:30
But it's not good and the first story we're going to talk about, hold on, I forgot to do the cool.
03:37
Yeah, I got a little V8 noise for you there.
03:40
Our friends over at Motor Trend put out a completely clickbait-y story the other day
03:47
and I know a few of you messaged me and I think there may have been posted on the
03:52
The clickbait title is If the 2029 Jeep Wrangler Flops.
03:56
It lights out for an icon.
03:58
Here's what we know about it.
03:59
It talks about how the Wrangler needs to succeed.
04:03
Jeep's identity is tied to Wrangler.
04:04
Okay, fine, that's fine.
04:06
Can't afford to get this one wrong.
04:08
But then they start talking about platform and powertrain and they're talking about
04:12
Jeep had initially teased out that the Wrangler would have a couple of powertrain options,
04:18
one all-electric, one with a range extender.
04:20
I don't think that's not accurate.
04:23
But now with the big pivot, I guess for the industry, they are going to have a traditional
04:29
ICE vehicle as well.
04:31
And they go on to talk about how the E-Rev would work without a low-range find.
04:35
I don't have an issue with that.
04:36
But they give this thing sources, familiar with the company's thinking.
04:41
They say that all electric Wrangler is dead and that the Jeep Recon EV takes this place.
04:46
I don't necessarily have any issues with that.
04:48
Then they talk about how there's going to be a range of conventional internal combustion engines,
04:52
base engine being the 2-liter turbocharged Hurricane 4, as well as the Hurricane 3-liter
04:56
twin-turbo 6, which is possible because on the JL platform, everybody's like,
05:00
why can't we get the Hurricane?
05:01
Well, it doesn't fit is the reason why.
05:04
It's two inches too long and you'd have to recrash it and get it certified.
05:08
And the JL has a few years left.
05:11
They're not going to invest all that money to put the Hurricane in there.
05:14
So that'd be great.
05:14
I would love to see the Hurricane come to the next generation,
05:17
which was originally going to be called JM, I believe.
05:20
But now it has a new code name.
05:23
Motor Trend drops it as being the J70.
05:28
I don't remember if that is accurate.
05:30
Not that it matters anymore.
05:31
But I'd love to see it if it's going to be an all new platform, which it is.
05:35
Love to see the straight six in there.
05:36
They say it's going to continue to be body and frame.
05:38
But then they say it's going to be independent front suspension.
05:41
And I can tell you the powers that be have been fighting this battle at JK.
05:47
Now they're going to fight at J70.
05:50
Everything else can be all independent.
05:51
To me, Jeep needs to be the brand that is the best off-road,
05:56
all-weather vehicle in its category.
05:58
So not every Jeep to me needs to do the Rubicon.
06:00
Compass doesn't need to do the Rubicon.
06:02
But should it be a highly capable all-weather vehicle to go down a dirt road?
06:07
Same with Grand Cherokee.
06:08
Doesn't have to do the Rubicon.
06:09
But should it be the most capable off-road vehicle in its class?
06:13
And they have the Trail Hawks and things like that.
06:15
And since there have been some executives that have moved out of the company who are
06:18
really pushing for IFS, I think the core of the brand and the people realize
06:22
The Wrangler is unique and special in this place.
06:24
Let's keep the solid axle.
06:25
Even when it was going to be EV, it was going to be solid axle from what I heard.
06:32
And I would think that that is going to stay in place.
06:35
It's an archaic suspension.
06:37
It doesn't do well on consumer reports.
06:40
But they're selling hundreds of thousands of these things a year.
06:42
And the areas that it excels over the competition like simplicity and rock crawling
06:49
and the ability to put a lift kit on in your driveway, all that kind of stuff.
06:52
It's stuff that the enthusiasts want.
06:54
It's super aftermarket friendly.
06:55
I know that there's issues with death wobble and that's usually a setup problem
06:59
and something that's worn.
07:00
So that can be fixed.
07:03
I know there's people are going to come back and go, oh death wobble.
07:06
But to be honest, a properly set up Wrangler with really good suspension rides just as good
07:12
as IFS most of the time on the highway.
07:14
Maybe it doesn't handle as well.
07:16
But it's nothing that is like, oh, this thing's horrible.
07:19
It's all over the road.
07:20
Like today's Wranglers are really dialed.
07:22
You look at the super duties.
07:23
You look at gladiators, which benefit from a longer wheelbase.
07:26
You look at Ram HDs.
07:28
There's definitely a place for solid axle.
07:30
And I just don't buy that they're looking at a IFS for the next generation Wrangler.
07:35
Not with what I have been exposed to and the people that I know that are behind it.
07:39
I just don't see that happening.
07:41
And then they throw in some other things.
07:43
Both engines will be backed by 8-speed automatic, true four-wheel drive capability,
07:47
two-speed transfer case, which is all makes sense.
07:50
And then they say, oh, off-road goodies will likely include disconnecting sway bars,
07:54
locking axles, knobby tires, plenty of armor.
07:57
I mean, that's like the bare minimum to get into it.
08:00
So anyway, I take a little bit of exception with this particular article.
08:04
I think it was clickbait.
08:05
I think it was just thrown together to try and guess what's going on there.
08:11
There's nobody inside Jeep that's giving them that information.
08:15
It's just not true.
08:16
So anyway, now with the algorithm on Google changing and how Google does stories with deep
08:21
technical integration and substance, not just keywords, you're going to see a lot of this
08:26
kind of stuff that comes from writers that are trying to game the algorithm.
08:30
And clickbait will still be a part of the process, but I just don't believe it's accurate.
08:34
So take it for what it's worth.
08:38
So here's some good news.
08:40
If you've been waiting for the return of the 5.7 liter Hemi to the Ram 1500,
08:45
they are now hitting dealership lot.
08:47
You can go to a dealership lot and probably if it's not sold out,
08:50
find one and take one home today.
08:51
And the good news is I've been reading all the reviews.
08:54
I didn't have a chance to go on that drive and they're now hitting all the websites and outlets
08:59
and everybody's saying the same thing.
09:01
It's good because it's always been good.
09:03
And they say it's fantastic in the new truck.
09:08
The integration is really good, even though it's a different architecture
09:10
for the electronics and things like that.
09:13
And I haven't seen one bad review on it so far.
09:15
All the reviews have been like, this is exactly the truck this needs to be.
09:19
Yeah, it's not as punchy or as powerful as the straight six,
09:23
but there's just a certain amount of truckiness that this is proper for the Ram 1500.
09:28
I'm glad to see that the journalists agree that the V8 is a good thing.
09:31
We'll see what the sales do.
09:33
But that hurricane straight six is a, it's a heck of an engine.
09:35
So I'm definitely not poo-pooing that because I've been really impressed.
09:39
Even the standard output version.
09:40
Power is 395 horsepower, 410 pound-feet of torque on the V8.
09:45
And on the standard output, it's 420, 469.
09:49
So even the standard output is a step above.
09:51
And then the HO gets 540 horsepower, which is a lot, absolutely a lot.
09:57
But there's just something about the V8 that just feels good, the way it drives.
10:01
And there's a lot of people that overall numbers or the way, you know,
10:05
a turbocharger comes on.
10:06
That's just not for them or they want something that's not turbocharged.
10:08
That can do the job.
10:09
And I think all those points are valid.
10:11
I'm going to be really, really interested to see how they do with sales,
10:15
because I think it's exciting to find out, was the return of the Hemi enough
10:20
to keep it around for a while?
10:22
Or people going to go, oh, okay, we have the Hemi back and drove it back to back
10:25
in the same truck with the straight six.
10:27
And now that's the one I want.
10:28
It'll be interesting to see.
10:29
For now, and I think we talked about pricing before, it's actually a pretty decent deal.
10:35
It's only 1200 bucks over a standard output hurricane straight six.
10:39
And it's a no charge option over the 540 horsepower high output version of the hurricane.
10:45
So I mean, get what you want at those dollars.
10:49
And I mean, really a money thing.
10:50
It's just a, what do you prefer?
10:51
And it's great to have choice.
10:53
We've said it before, I'm excited it's back.
10:55
I think there's a lot of people that are excited it's back and let's see how the sales go.
10:59
I'm not sure if you heard the news, but Ford has officially changed Ford performance.
11:04
And well, it's going back to Ford racing.
11:08
Everything else stays the same.
11:09
There's a lot of projects that are still on for Ford racing, which was formerly Ford
11:14
So it's going to prepare to return to formula one.
11:16
You still have the Raptor T one plus race vehicles in Dakar.
11:21
And I'm sure there's other series that they're looking at and Ford will continue to set records
11:26
And beyond that management stays the same.
11:29
So you still have the same Mark Rushbrook, who's the global director of Ford racing,
11:34
and then William Clay Ford, the third, which is Henry Ford's great grandson.
11:38
He's going to be on as the general manager at this point.
11:41
It sounds like it's just a name change to reset what the expectations are.
11:44
And I think racing is cool again.
11:46
I think for a while people and companies shied away from the racing thing.
11:50
And I think it's coming back.
11:52
So kudos to Ford for bringing back Ford racing.
11:56
All right, we'll go back to the Ram with a straight six.
12:00
The Ram RHO, which has the high output version.
12:03
Well, apparently you can now go over to Hennessy and get the Hennessy Mammoth 700,
12:08
which is built on the Ram RHO chassis.
12:11
This will tune the engine.
12:13
Bigger turbocharger, different exhaust, 700 horsepower instead of 540.
12:18
And apparently all the driving modes still work.
12:20
You get a three suspension lift.
12:23
However, they still use the Bilstein E squared shocks.
12:26
So I'm curious, three inches sounds like it might be a little bit on the high side
12:31
for getting full range out of those shocks.
12:33
So I'd be interested to drive it and see how they do their lift,
12:36
just because your shock stroke is not changing.
12:39
You don't want to raise it too tall, where you're in a spot of your wheel travel,
12:42
where you don't have any droop, right?
12:44
And just kind of skitters over things.
12:46
And it's only compliant on the compression side of the shock travel.
12:49
So be interesting to know what they do there.
12:51
But you're curious, comes with a three year, 36,000 mile warranty.
12:55
Every truck is dyno tested.
12:57
And the cost, this might surprise you.
13:00
All right, so you're already building on top of a $70,000 truck.
13:03
So what's it going to set you back?
13:12
So basically doubles the price of the truck.
13:14
Now you get some off-road bumpers and you get 20 inch wheels
13:18
and you get interior appointments.
13:20
But that's a lot of coin.
13:25
But hey, if you can afford it, it's a cool looking truck.
13:27
And it's 700 horse.
13:29
So it brings you right back in line with where the TRX was,
13:31
with presumably a more efficient three liter,
13:37
I don't know, we'll see.
13:39
So if you follow Ford on Instagram,
13:41
they recently post an image of Jim Farley sitting in the cab of a future truck.
13:45
And it's obviously just a styling buck.
13:47
And the caption was product day, my favorite time of the month.
13:50
Great discussion, debate about future mustangs,
13:52
super duties and the Ford digital experience.
13:54
Well, if you look at it, it looks like sort of a super duty windshield
13:58
because there's a drop center section there.
14:00
He didn't mention F-150 specifically mentioned super duty.
14:03
So it looks like the vehicle is a future super duty they sitting in.
14:07
And at the base of the windshield,
14:08
you can see the screen layout looks really similar to the new expedition
14:12
where it's a two tiered screen layout.
14:15
Is that something that truck drivers want?
14:17
Do they want that two tiered digital experience in their heavy duty trucks?
14:20
Looks like it's potentially coming to the Ford super duty.
14:24
And by way of super duty,
14:26
that probably means it's also coming to the Ford F-150 at some point too.
14:29
So it'll be interesting to see if the expedition is hinting
14:32
at what the future dash design is for these new trucks.
14:37
So pricing is in for the 2026 Nissan Armada and Nismo.
14:41
And it's interesting to see what Nissan has done on pricing
14:45
because I thought it was a really good value proposition
14:47
when it dropped especially for everything that you get.
14:49
But because the Armada is built in Japan,
14:52
it definitely is going to face some tariffs.
14:55
And I think that's reflected in the new pricing.
14:56
So not only do you have higher prices,
14:59
but you also get a destination charge that's now $2,190,
15:03
which is probably one of the higher ones that I've seen in a while.
15:06
So the trim breakdown is Nissan Armada 61030 for rear wheel drive.
15:13
And you top out at the Nissan Armada Platinum Reserve 4WD at $81,720.
15:22
So TFL Truck had this great little chart where they went through
15:25
and they said, okay, what's starting them SRP and the highest MSRP?
15:28
So again, Armada 61030, Tahoe 62095, Ford Expedition 64515,
15:35
Yukon, non-XL, 70, 495, Jeep Wagoneer, non-L, 62040,
15:41
and Toyota Sequoia 66120, and those were all for 4x2s.
15:46
And the highest trim, so Nissan's still a value proposition.
15:50
Looks like they gave them some room in there.
15:52
The highest MSRP is $81,720 for the Platinum Reserve.
15:56
The Tahoe High Country 4WD base price tops out at $82,295,
15:59
of course, you can option.
16:00
Higher than that, the Ford Expedition, again, non-Max,
16:02
King Ranch, 4x4, 86, 170, GMC, Yukon, non-XL.
16:07
If you went to Nali, ultimate 4WD, $103,595, whoo-hoo.
16:12
Whoa, that's not right.
16:16
And the Jeep Wagoneer, super 4x4, $83,230,
16:20
and the base price of the highest trim on the Toyota Sequoia,
16:24
so Capstone 4WD, $86,530.
16:26
And if you're curious about where the Pro 4x stacks up,
16:29
that is at $74,490, which gets kind of a mix of
16:33
the Platinum and Platinum Reserve pieces in there,
16:36
and it splits the difference, the Platinum 4WD, $75,680,
16:39
the Platinum Reserve rear-wheel drive, $79,740,
16:43
and then the Nismo 4WD comes just under the Platinum Reserve 4WD.
16:46
At $81,720, again, you get more of a street-tuned,
16:50
sport-oriented package with more power.
16:53
So there you have it, news on the Nissan Armada,
16:56
which is actually a fantastic SUV that I'm a huge fan of.
17:01
Here's kind of a fun fact for you on Friday nights
17:03
when you're drinking beers in the garage with your friends.
17:06
What's the one thing that you would expect a GMC Sierra EV AT4
17:10
to have on their off-road package?
17:13
It comes with all sorts of stuff.
17:15
It has two inches of additional ground clearance,
17:16
35-inch all-terrain tires, crab walk capability,
17:20
terrain modes, tow hooks, its own look,
17:24
but the one thing it doesn't have that you would expect is a spare tire.
17:29
That ain't true! That's not true!
17:34
So get your facts straight.
17:36
Nope, that's true, but instead it gets a tire inflator kit.
17:40
And a spare's not even an option.
17:42
At least on the Hummer, there's an accessory
17:44
that allows you to have a spare that stands up
17:46
in the bed of the Hummer EV trucks.
17:48
So I don't know why they didn't include that on the GMC.
17:51
Reviews of that thing have come back, though,
17:53
and it's been pretty cool, but it should be pretty cool
17:55
because pricing for the AT4 extended range, 81, 395.
18:00
And if you want the max range variant, it starts 91,695.
18:09
So for those of you out there who are looking to pick up a brand new truck
18:12
and you are going to finance it,
18:16
when Trump signed the big beautiful bill into law,
18:18
one of the provisions in there was a new tax deduction
18:22
for auto loan interest on vehicles built in the U.S.
18:25
with a gross vehicle weight under 14,000 pounds.
18:28
So I went through the list of pickup trucks
18:29
to figure out which ones would qualify for that.
18:32
And if you're on the fence between one or the other,
18:34
maybe that makes the difference in which one you choose.
18:36
Hyundai Santa Cruz, made in Montgomery, Alabama.
18:39
The Jeep Gladiator in Toledo, Ohio.
18:41
Ford Ranger in Wayne, Michigan.
18:43
F-150, including Lightning in Dearborn, Michigan
18:45
in Kansas City, Missouri, technically, Clecomo.
18:48
The Toyota Tundra is made in San Antonio, Texas.
18:51
The Nissan Frontier in Canton, Mississippi.
18:53
The Chevy Colorado in GMC Canyon Twins in Wentzville, Missouri.
18:57
And the Ram 1500 in Sterling Heights, Michigan.
19:00
Now there's a bunch of vehicles that are built outside the U.S.
19:05
and those include the Ford Maverick in Hermosillo, Mexico.
19:08
The Toyota Tacoma in Baja, California.
19:10
And Guanajuato, Mexico.
19:12
And the Ram HD is still built at the Saltillo
19:15
Truck Assembly Plant in Mexico,
19:16
although there's been some investment stateside
19:19
where my guess is Ram HD is probably going to be
19:21
coming back to the U.S.
19:23
And then there's also a whole host of vehicles
19:25
mixed between the U.S. and out of country.
19:26
Now this is where it's going to get a little bit tricky.
19:29
If you're going to go buy one of these vehicles,
19:31
you're going to want to make sure that you have
19:33
your final assembly here in the United States,
19:35
and that's decipherable on your VIN code
19:38
or on your Minroni, which is the Windows sticker,
19:39
which will tell where that vehicle is made.
19:41
Because the GM HDs are made in Flint, Michigan.
19:45
And apparently some are still in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada.
19:51
Chevy Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500
19:53
are made in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
19:57
And also at that same Oshawa, Ontario, Canada plant.
20:01
And the Super Duties are made in Louisville, Kentucky
20:03
and Avon Lake, Ohio.
20:05
But apparently Ford makes some in Ontario, Canada,
20:08
since 2024 to meet the demand.
20:10
So if you're looking at any of those trucks,
20:12
GM HD, Ford Super Duty,
20:14
or Chevy Silverado 1500, GMC Sierra 1500,
20:17
not all of them are made here.
20:19
Some are made in a neighboring country
20:20
and may not qualify for the tax break.
20:22
So I just wanted to break that down for you guys
20:24
if that helps you to buy a new truck.
20:28
And it's that time of the show
20:29
where we take a look at the latest recalls.
20:31
Check engine light just went on.
20:36
Noise under the hood takes like a bomb.
20:40
Recall covers metal glass leather and plastic.
20:45
Door handle pulled off in my hand just fantastic.
20:54
Hate to say this, but Ford,
20:57
back in the news with recalls again.
20:59
Every ranger built between 2024 and July of 2026
21:09
So that's another 100,000 trucks adding to their totals.
21:14
So this recall revolves around the side curtain airbags.
21:18
And apparently there was a safety audit
21:20
of the 25 ranger conducted by NHTSA,
21:23
the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
21:25
And it got a lower score than Ford anticipated.
21:28
So Ford went back to the third party that NHTSA used
21:31
and they did an analysis and found
21:33
that there's an external source
21:34
that was tearing the curtain airbags.
21:35
This cut was only 15 seconds of an inch long,
21:39
but it allowed the airbag to deflate enough
21:41
to where performance while still passing
21:43
was below Ford's standards and what they designed it for.
21:46
So they figured out that there was a inner reinforcement
21:49
flange for the bags that could cause a tear
21:51
and then lose pressure prematurely.
21:54
So 100,900 pickups are affected.
21:58
If you're an arranger before 2024,
21:59
after July 29th, 2025, it's not affected.
22:02
And Ford is redesigning the part right now.
22:04
So owners will be notified and repairs will hopefully
22:06
get started before the end of the year.
22:08
So for now, if you drive a ranger,
22:09
just be real careful out there.
22:12
All right, that's going to do it for this episode
