I recently passed on a .1 GT3 with 55,000 miles and replaced the G6 engine.

Now he's lost me a bit at 100,000 pounds because I think that's what the car is worth.

Oh, he's gone a bit crazy.

991.2 GT3 is out of my price range.

Are there any alternatives for 90 to 100,000 pounds?

That's like a 2014 car.

What do you think will happen to the value of a 991.GT3 in that period of time?

It will be very stable.

So you don't think it's going to go necessarily up or down?

It will sit fairly rock solid.

Yeah.

And the reason that I reason why I think this is because of the price of the dot two car,

which is not too far away.

20 in our country is like 20,000, 20,000, 25,000 quid.

What's the so that so 901.2 is around 130 grand for a wind car?

Oh, wow.

Yeah.

Like one, one 20, one 25, depending on mileage as well.

Obviously this is these are all mileage dependent and spec dependent.

Porsche, a special GT product Porsche, very spec dependent, isn't it?

Yeah.

You'll always pay more for a, for a ceramic brake car and didn't have far as it.

But then I know that's lucky I'm here now, isn't it?

Clearly I've got to do this as well.

Go on.

Yeah.

So in my opinion, I would find the extra 20 grand and buy the dot two because everything

changes from dot one to dot two.

The engines are way stronger.

It's a proper motorsport engine.

The gearboxes are better.

The car's just better.

Actually, if any of you that watched the episode last week said that there wasn't

there, there's not normally incremental jumps between dot one and dot two.

That was a big jump.

Yes.

Good point.

That was because that car, the dot two is way better than the dot one.

He is saying no, no, one of these is out of my price range.

So maybe in America, they're stronger.

Fair.

So they could be.

So he's saying that there's not an option for it.

Okay.

Fine.

So if you look at all the other models, you know, still on the used market, apart

from 997.2s, it sort of does start, you know, 996 GT3s, you know, in the UK, 70, 80

grand, 997.1s, 80 or 90 grand.

I said 997.2 is a little bit crazy, but it does sort of trickle up.

So you can sort of estimate that if they're all going to keep trickling down,

let's not sit here trying to give investment advice on that.

They're all going to continue to trickle down in the next three, five, 10 years.

Yes.

You could imagine a 991.1 might end up at 65, 70 grand.

I'd be amazed, mate.

In terms of that low.

I'd be amazed.

You don't think I've dropped that low.

No, no, I think that's found its feet now.

Okay.

Fine.

I think that is 10 years old.

Yeah.

They're easily leveled by now, but you know, and then you've got like the low mileage

examples that will start to creep up because obviously is when cars stop production in

general, especially limited run cars or limited numbers cars, you think, oh, there's

this amount of cars when they were made, but then they start getting crashed and then

they blow up or things happen.

Although it's rare for a Porsche to blow up and it not be put back on the road.

You know, most, is it 75% of Porsche has ever made a still on the road?

Is there something?

Yeah, I saw that stuff the other day.

It's a ridiculous number.

So that, that's rare, but they, they just get to that point where they, they then start

to appreciate it and all you get all the old crap, which, which is like, which will

be 80 or 90 grand, and then you'll get the real low mileage, nice stuff, which starts

to creep up because there's less of it.

Let's supply and demand.

Sure.

So then in terms of reliability, you know, I didn't know much about these engines until

you made me aware of it a few years ago.

So we're G engine.

Yeah.

Where, where, what's the, what's the vibe there?

Like what should people, should actually people steer away?

Is it genuinely a continued concern?

Well, if they've got, if they've got the new engine in them, I don't think it is a

concern as far as I know from what I know now, um, the, the, cause Porsche were

warranting them for 10 years, essentially.

So, but that's out now about, well, it is out because they were 13 and 14, weren't

they?

So that they're, they're gone now.

So you need to make sure they've got the newer engine in them, um, but I've not

had any bad things about the new, the new engine.

And so what would the alternatives have been?

You said AMG GTR.

That's the first thing that comes to my head.

Yes.

In that price bracket, they're sort of, they're a little bit less, aren't they?

So maybe a bit more, a good one is still a hundred, mate.

A nice one with nice miles, you know, with moon miles and no ceramics and, you know,

not being looked after, they're probably 80, but a good one is still a hundred.

See, my thought was to stick in that Porsche mentality.

Why not save a chunk and maybe get as good a car, get 718 GT4?

Cause 911.1 GT3 versus 718 GT4.

Um, yeah, but people, people, it's not 911, is it?

It's not.

And I've always claimed that, but in terms of reliability, usability, like all

of the things, dynamics, but cause in 911.1 GT3, I don't think is necessarily

held at as the greatest GT3 ever made.

Absolutely.

And obviously had its issues and value wise and all this kind of stuff.

Like you, you could say what are they in this country?

GT4 70, 580 grand.

Yeah.

Again, a good one with all the bits on it.

Um, it's probably still 85.

Yeah.

But so you've got a 15 or maybe 20 grand saving for a more reliable car.

Yeah.

More sellable color, all these different things.

If someone asked me, if I had a choice between a 718 GT4 PDK and a 991.1

GT3, I'd have the Cayman.

Yeah.

I think I would too.

I would have a million percent.

Yeah.

It's a great car.

I think it's a great car.

And you're, and you're getting all the sort of benefits of the, yeah, just,

just, yeah, of a newer car, more reliable car.

Value wise, hard to know.

Um, cause less evidence to go on, but they've been fine, right?

In the grand scheme of things.

So a dot one GT4 manual car with loads of miles still between 50 and 60.

Okay.

Yeah.

So they're like not far off list.

Like remember those cars when they came out at 64?

Uh, roughly.

Yeah.

64 bit of options over 70.

Yeah.

So yeah.

Okay.

So yeah.

GT4, AMG GTR.

All right, but not really a driver's car.

Yeah.

If you're really, if you're talking about wanting and he's got, I have a 991.1 911 now.

Yeah.

So if you're in that mentality, you could get, you could get a turbo, but the

it's not, it's weird actually because when I think turbo, the difference

between them two cars, they're really far away in terms of drivability and what

they do that, like the, you know, the old turbo for sure.

When I fast forward now, depending on what tour I do next year, when we do

our tours, I will pick tour dependent, dependent.

Whether I take the turbo or whether I take the GT3, 10 years ago, I would

always only take the GT3.

Good point.

Because they're closer now.

Yes.

Absolutely.

You know, dynamically.

They are that turbo all rounded is so good.

Now it's not as, it's not as heavy on it.

It's not as light on its feet and that, you know, but as an all round car, the gap

is as closer to a GT product.

I have no idea what the values are in the U.S., but the other alternative to

look at would be a 570S and McLaren.

Well, they'll be all right.

I mean, I think they're fairly, I think McLaren's do all right in the U.S.

They do as one of their strongest markets for sure.

But I just don't know, you know, value wise, let's see if I can find.

I think they're about that money.

Well, they are in this country.

They're less.

In this country, you can pick up, I mean, a good one.

Like a late, because with ever with McLaren, the later build you, the better.

Essentially, like that's, that's kind of where you want to be looking at.

Cause it allows them to get the 90210 wiggle things out.

So, okay, value.

How do I do this?

Distance nationwide.

Is this America?

I've often wondered in America by price lowest, the lowest priced.

570 s that I can see is $100,000.

So yeah, you can find a car within your budget.

In the U.S.

Criteria is one needs to be a two plus two as I have a wife and twin boys.

Congrats.

I'd like to bring along for days out in York to the lay strict, strict plus road trips into Europe.

Car needs to be able to handle GT slash road trip duties.

Early morning, solo blasts on B roads with potential occasional track day.

How much should a hundred K?

Should I spend the amount on one car or split and get a dedicated car for each?

My current thinking is 29, 2009 to 13 Aston DBS for the GT and a Lotus Exige for solo trips

or the likely 911 one car solution.

Look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Don't discount the 911 if you've got twins and a wife, like I don't know how old your boys are,

but like it's not that comfortable.

That is a two plus a half.

Like it's not a two plus two.

They're babies you get away with it or not even babies.

They've got to be like four or five.

I mean, something you could really look out for that price though is an FF because that is going to do everything.

You've got a hundred K FF.

Like reliability maintenance wise, you're going to have a chunk of money aside for that one going break that car.

Just be aware you can rack up bills quite easily in those and you have to keep it on trickle and all that kind of stuff.

So you can either go and again, Bentley Continental at that point.

The world's our oyster a hundred K for either one car that does everything.

I love my and I've done dynamic driving in that car.

But the problem is if you want practicality, you have to suffer something and that car's got practicality in abundance.

He said the car needs to be able to handle GT road trip duties, the occasional drive with my wife and twin boys and early morning solo blasts with the potential for the occasional track day.

I mean, Tony's not wrong.

I've been in tow.

I was in Tony's M3 at the Nürburgring.

Like, yes.

It's fine.

Because I was going to say I was going to push the Bentley angle quite hard, but that's going to rid you of the occasional track day opportunity.

That's going to suddenly, but you know, I mean.

Or we go down or you go down the route of two cars.

I can't think I still can't fit.

I missed that car, by the way.

I still can't think of a better all round practical car.

Well, then at that point, just get an M340i touring and then get a juicy Lotus or the Alpine.

Maybe that's it.

Yeah, but you're going to spend all your 100 grand.

Any of these cars we're just suggesting M3s, Bentley's, that's not going to do it for you.

Like because the RS6 is the E63, they're all too big and heavy.

Or you go, or you go, you go a hot hatch and something sporty.

One of the last great Renault Sport products or Civic Type R.

That's not a bad shout for the Hoon, but it just, it depends where your head is at.

Like I'm always like, I just always struggle to really like get super hyper excited to buy hatchbacks.

I always drive them and go, I don't have one of these, but it just doesn't have that same.

I would just, I would just, well, it depends how fast you want to go as well.

Because like you could, you could almost, you're just going to go over the hundred.

You could almost have the M free touring and something like a GR 86 as well.

Something that, you know, if you just want to, cause they're not very fast in GR 86s, but they're bloody good fun.

You put fruit exhaust on it and you've been flat.

So you can go and have your little joint in that and then you got your M free touring that sort of does both as well.

Something comfortable that's stylish.

There's an aspect that you love that it just, it's just really nice.

And then have the sports car or do it all in one because the, the having a sporty daily and a sports car,

what you just end up not using one of them.
