00:00
Hey, everybody, welcome to another edition of the Subi Scoop.
00:15
This is kind of cool.
00:16
This falls on a Monday on December 1st, the start of a new month, the start of the last
00:24
That's crazy that we're almost to 2026.
00:28
It seems like this year just flew by and we're going to be in Christmas time soon.
00:35
So it's just kind of crazy in here, right?
00:39
So I hope everybody had a happy Thanksgiving.
00:41
I hope you ate lots of food, got completely stuffed and took a good nap.
00:45
But seriously, I hope you had a good time and enjoyed time with friends and family
00:50
and good food and all that good stuff.
00:54
So we just went to my mom's house and ate some food over there, hung out for a while.
01:00
And then, yeah, that was it.
01:03
Then enjoy the weekend after that.
01:05
For those of you that got a four-day weekend, I know that was nice because typically you
01:10
get Thanksgiving Day off and some companies give the day after off and then of course
01:15
So that's always nice.
01:16
There's not a whole lot to update, I guess, on this Subi Scoop, but Pearl should be
01:22
done this Friday, December 5th.
01:26
After the accident, I called the other guy's insurance company.
01:30
His personal insurance company was Geico.
01:32
Then I got a call from Progressive later that afternoon to start the process.
01:37
And so the accident happened on a Saturday, called on Monday, got my car in the shop
01:44
And then on Wednesday, they said it should be ready December 5th.
01:48
So that was two and a half weeks from that date.
01:53
So now I've only got a week left.
01:54
But this past week and a half has gone by extremely slow.
01:59
If you've seen in my stories, I'm driving a Chevy Trax and being that I mean I'm grateful
02:07
for having a rental car because it's nice that I can go places.
02:12
Although I think I've had it for, I haven't had it for the full week and a half.
02:16
I've had it just for over a week.
02:20
I still haven't used up all the gas and the rental yet.
02:24
I probably would have filled up Pearl twice in this time frame.
02:29
But yeah, it is nice to have something to drive.
02:33
But there's little things that you realize, that you don't realize that you do when
02:43
And one of the things that I discovered is you have the little handle up on the
02:49
roof next to the top of the window and in a Subaru, at least all the modern
02:54
Subaru's from what I've seen, you have a handle at every seat.
02:59
So every seat has one of those handles.
03:02
And in this rental, in this Chevy Trax, when I get to stop signs or mainly when I
03:08
get to stop lights, I reach up and try to grab the handle.
03:13
But on the Chevy Trax, there isn't one there.
03:16
I guess it's just a thing that I do when I come to red lights and I don't realize it.
03:21
You don't realize it until you try to do it and it's not there.
03:25
So I guess when I come to red lights in Pearl, I reach up and hold that handle.
03:31
It's just maybe it's a comfort thing.
03:33
Maybe it's, I don't know.
03:35
But I notice that I do that when I am not able to because there's nothing
03:40
there to grab onto.
03:42
The other thing that is kind of frustrating is whenever I turn my car off,
03:48
when I turn my Subaru off and I, you know, I'm getting ready to get out.
03:54
It unlocks all the doors.
03:56
So if I've got something in the hatch, if I have something in the back seat,
04:00
I can get out, open up the back door, open up the hatch and I'm good to go.
04:06
However, in this Chevy Trax, when I turn it off and it unlocks the door,
04:14
it only unlocks the driver's side door.
04:16
So several times I've gotten out and I'll go to open up the back door just out of habit
04:23
And I'm like, because it's so frustrating because it doesn't unlock all the doors.
04:27
So then I like have to get the remote out and unlock the doors and then can get into the back door.
04:34
I haven't really had to get into the hatch.
04:36
I've just looked back there just to see what's back there.
04:38
But yeah, so that's that's kind of frustrating.
04:41
And then it has the auto shut off at, you know, when you come to a red light and you're sitting there for,
04:48
I guess it has to be like a certain period of time before it automatically shuts off and then starts up again.
04:53
So I forget to turn that off.
04:55
And when I'm driving, I just come to a red light and then I'll feel it shut off.
05:00
And I'm like, oh, come on.
05:01
So I turn it off that way.
05:03
It doesn't do it again when I continue driving.
05:06
But just a little things like that.
05:07
And then, of course, it's missing the third pedal, you know, that's my driving experience.
05:12
Every day is shifting my own gears and using my left leg to push in the clutch so that I can shift gears.
05:22
And now I don't have my third pedal there.
05:25
So of course, driving an automatic is convenient.
05:29
And it is nice at times, but I really miss shifting gears.
05:37
So I'm really looking, I'm looking forward to getting Pearl back for all kinds of reasons, of course,
05:41
just because it's my car.
05:43
And I love driving my car.
05:46
I love that it's a manual.
05:48
I love that it has the handle so that I can grab onto it when I come to a red light.
05:52
I love that it doesn't have auto shut off.
05:54
Also, the gauge cluster in the rental and this Chevy Trax is digital.
06:00
And the cool thing about that, though, is it has like three different options that you can choose from.
06:06
So you can change the display, but it's just not the same.
06:10
I love an analog display.
06:12
I like that my car is a base model because it has a lot of simplified things.
06:18
It doesn't have a lot of electronics.
06:20
And I really like that.
06:22
There are, of course, conveniences with a lot of the electronics and some of the newer cars.
06:29
But I like that mine isn't crazy with electronics.
06:33
That's a really nice feature of the base model.
06:39
So I'm just looking forward to getting back into Pearl.
06:42
And then I realized, too, that I've been driving around with a busted hatch from back in January of 2021,
06:50
right before we left to go to Colorado, been driving around with a busted hatch.
06:56
So other than that, not a whole lot going on.
06:58
I'm still on the hunt for a job.
07:00
I've got a couple of prospects going on there.
07:03
But then I'm working on some other things, too.
07:05
But I really need to start working on the YouTube channel more.
07:08
I know I put it up there and I uploaded a few videos.
07:12
I uploaded all of the motorsports videos into a motorsports playlist.
07:18
But I still need to go back and put in the other two Overland Expo events that I went to
07:25
and then just put in some of my trip stuff that I've done, like personal trips.
07:30
But just haven't gotten around to it, but I will. I will.
07:34
I mean, that's kind of more for me anyway.
07:37
And then just to hopefully get some more eyes on what I'm doing
07:42
and what I'm doing with the podcast and events that I'm going to.
07:46
And then just fun that I get out and have with Pearl.
07:50
So just need to do more of that.
07:52
And I need to do a lot of things, I guess, but I'm still, you know,
07:57
cranking away at the podcast.
07:59
I've got two episodes recorded already and I'm planning a third and a fourth
08:05
and some other ones coming up.
08:07
So there's still plenty of guests.
08:09
I still have a list and then there's still plenty of people
08:12
that I need to reach out to to get on my list.
08:15
And like with 2025, when I started getting on some previous guests on the podcast,
08:21
I do want to do that.
08:22
I want to continue that in 2026 to have previous guests that were on the podcast
08:29
and like, hey, where are you now?
08:32
What's been going on?
08:33
And then I would like to try to pull together some more bonus episodes.
08:38
Back in mid 2021, I think it was in July of 2021.
08:43
I did a Tales from the Trails with Chris and Juan and me too
08:50
because I wanted to do it after I went out there
08:52
so that I could kind of be included in that and because we had some fun.
08:57
But I want to do another maybe one or two Tales from the Trails
09:02
over the next few months, you know, or in 2026.
09:06
So I did talk to somebody about that.
09:09
I don't remember who it is offhand, but did talk about that.
09:12
So definitely want to get that together.
09:14
And then maybe some other bonus episodes, like if there's a group of people
09:18
that like to get out all the time or have an annual trip or something,
09:20
you know, let's talk about that.
09:22
So and I want to try to get some more work done with SOA this year and all in 2026.
09:31
So lots of things on the agenda coming up.
09:35
And so we'll see what all we can squeeze into 2026.
09:40
And I'm looking forward to Overland Expo again
09:43
and seeing how we can make that better for everybody.
09:46
Not that it was a bad event at all, but there's always ways to improve.
09:51
And so I'm looking forward to that.
09:53
And then, of course, Subifest, Texas again.
09:56
And then maybe I can make it out to some of the other subi events.
10:00
Not sure, but we will see what can happen.
10:03
Either way, I'm looking forward to the new year, looking forward to seeing
10:07
what can come with the podcast and meeting new people
10:12
and having on previous guests and new guests, of course.
10:16
So anyway, that will wrap it up for this edition of the Subi Scoop.
10:20
Hope you all have a wonderful week.
10:23
Go out there and get your Christmas and holiday shopping done early.
10:27
So you're not waiting till the last minute to get it all done.
10:30
There's some great deals going on on Cyber Monday today on Amazon.
10:34
So be sure to check those out as well.
10:36
So again, have a great week.
10:38
We'll talk to you later.
10:39
See you next Monday on another regular episode.
